What Is The Purpose Of Romantic Poems By Wordsworth
LYRICAL BALLADS, A EXPERIMENT
SULAIM SARFRAZ
In the Advertisement included in the 1798 edition of the lyrical ballads, Wordsworth explained why
this project of his was an experiment
The majority of the following poems are to be considered as experiments. They were written
chiefly with a view to ascertain how far the language of conversation in the middle and lower
classes of society is adapted to the purpose of poetic pleasure. (Lyrical Ballads, Wordsworth)
The basic purpose of this experiment was to revolt against the existing poetic practices that were
completely devoid of emotion and based purely on logic and reason like the poetry of the Augustan
Age. The lyrical ballads officially marked the start of the Romantic Revival of English ... Show

It brought novelty and freshness to English literature that had grown stale with the Augustan
age. Though from the outside it brought revolutionary changes to the literary scene of the time,
the preface and Wordsworth theory of poetry did not live up to what it preached as in many
poems Wordsworth himself completely discarded his own ideals and his partner in the creation
of lyrical ballads Coleridge himself wrote Biographia Literaria, a part of which is solely the
criticism on Wordsworth s theory of poetry. He rejected some of Wordsworth s ideas completely
i.e. that of poetic diction and the language of real men etc while he still believed in the great
importance of Nature in poetry that is the common characteristic of all romantic literature, but at
the same time his poems are not solely based on the natural. He believed that the objective of
poetry is only to give pleasure not to convey a truth which is the complete opposite of what
Wordsworth believed and that it should have organic unity, the essence of which is that just like a
living organism that cannot be separated from any of its parts without injury, all parts of a poem
must fit together as a whole. In his work, Coleridge in addition to writing about his own ideas,

Snapshots of Creating Google Doc. Spreasheet
We are 5 members in a group so we decided to do this usability test by acting as a novice user as we
are also newer to this software. We start constructing a Google doc. Here is the finding which we
noticed during this whole scenario.
BELOW GIVEN ARE THE STEP BY STEP ISSUES WHICH THE NOVICE USER FACED
WHILE FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONAL GUIDE AS PER OUR OBSERVATION.
1. пѓЁ as per the instructional guide, the statement says GO TO GOOGLE DOCS START A
SPREAD SHEEET thou, the information about Google docs is available but, no information is
available about the procedures of how to create a Google docs account.
As per our observation, the novice user faced the difficulty in opening creating the Google docs
account, without the information of the how to create a Google docs account, the novice user won
t be able to start working over spread sheet.
Plus, no information is provided regarding how to even start a spread sheet also.
In short a lack of information is provided about creating an account and sign in to create a spread
sheet
2. пѓЁ the novice user got stuck at point number 3, which says, CHOOSE THE DATA
VALIDATION COMMAND , the novice user faced difficulty in finding the data validation
command, if snapshots would be available at this point it would make it easier for the users who
are using the software for first time.
3. пѓЁ Point number four is quite vague clear explanation is not given, it says: THE CELL

Final Paper:
How will 3D printing affect the process and quality of constructing housing in the 21st Century?
The role of Technology in the 21st century cannot be over looked. It has completely transformed the
way we live and the way we interact with each other. It has enabled the formation of numerous
possibilities that were not previously imaginable. 3D printing has evolved so much in the past 5
years where we can now virtually make any shape using this technology. Although in the past it
was reserved for smaller items such as machinery parts, it is now being used to create much bigger
items such as cars and even houses. It has also become much cheaper ... Show more content on

This is something that evolution in technology can change, like anything in our society, as time
progresses these technologies become more and more open to the public.
(Picture A)
The History
Throughout history we can see that housing has followed certain trends. These trends are most
heavily influenced by the technology available to the public at that time. As can be seen throughout
history, living conditions in general have improved, as there are more access to resources and
building technologies. Although the world we live in has changed greatly, the basic type of
shelter needed for everyday life and the resources needed to construct them has changed very
little. This is why we can see a lot of parallels between the ways people live throughout history.
However, the biggest change is in the way we construct buildings and especially housing. History
has taught us that as time goes by, technology increases, making it easier for us to build structures.
For example the Egyptians relied solely on Adobe (sun dried mud bricks) and slave labor for
construction. Then came the development of hydraulic lime mortar, the Treadwell cranes (which is
a wooden, human powered hoisting and lowering device) as well as the start of domes and arches,
as structural components in architecture. Followed by the Middle Ages, which saw a huge
emphasis on the construction of massive public buildings such as Cathedrals, Churches,

Comparing the Treatment of Women in Hedda Gabbler, A...
Women as Victims in Hedda Gabbler, A Doll s House and Ghosts
In Ibsen s plays Hedda Gabbler, A Doll s House and Ghosts the female protagonists of Hedda
Gabler, Nora and Mrs. Alving demonstrate how social expectations and restrictions of women
impacts the life every woman on a very personal level.
Conservative social and religious leaders imposed women s restricted social roles. Women had to
be married; there was not another socially acceptable option. After marriage they had to stay with
their families and fulfill their social and moral duty regardless of their personal feelings or how their
husbands treated them. Ibsen presents his characters Hedda, Nora and Helene as victims of the
patriarchal system of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Judge Brakes asks why she married, Tesman, Hedda responds: I really danced myself out,
Judge. My time was up... (Fjelde, 725). Hedda is completely aware of the fact that she cannot play
the role of the happy housewife successfully. Hedda finds herself trapped in a difficult situation
that was forced upon her by obsolete traditions. Although repulsed by the thought Hedda must
contend with her role as a housewife in a middle class household. The fact that she is pregnant
carves her role as homemaker even more deeply into her consciousness and leaves her emotionally
wounded.
Brack. No that isn t ah, never mind. But suppose you were to be confronted now by what in rather
elegant language is called your most solemn responsibility. A new responsibility, Mrs. Hedda.
Hedda. Be quiet! You ll never see me like that!

Hedda. I have no talent for such things, Judge. I won t have responsibilities! (730)
Just like Nora and Helene, Hedda prefers to pretend instead of dealing with reality. She hides
behind the accepted social roles by marrying someone who is dependable as a husband but
whom she doesn t love. Lovorg. Ah, I understand. It offends your love for George Tesman.
Hedda. Love? You are absurd! (737). She marries Tesman so she can have control over other
people. She thrives on jealousy, social ambition, and a need to dominate others. She needs to
degrade others to improve her own self image;

Descriptive Essay About A Shack
Back in 1981, my dad, uncle, aunt and grandpa all helped work on building a shack in the middle
of the woods. At the time it was built, none of them could have imagined what it would mean to
the family today. I bet, back during that summer, they were only concerned with where the deer
were, but although the deer have moved on from that area, the shack still sees widespread use.
Now days, we use it for a place to sleep before going out duck hunting because of the Willow
River and the many logans that surround it. On the contrary, the shack gets used for one, non
hunting event, every year: the spaghetti feed. Because of its importance, the shack is
instrumental in bringing the family together. When I was a little boy, only about five years old,
I spent my first night at the shack. Before this I had only heard of the shack and what it looked
like: barn shaped; red, chink board siding all surrounded by trees. Now that I am finally able to
go up there, I can not wait to see it for myself. The ride to the shack was nothing standard; we had
to take four wheelers through some hay fields, then get on a county road and drive to the north for
a while. After that we turn off, onto a trail along the ditch bank near the rice paddies and follow
that until we get to a clearing in the woods. At the clearing there is not much to see; just some trees
on the outside, on the left there is a 1960s looking Mack truck parked by the ditch bank, and to the
right is the way to the shack. The road is nothing more than matted down grass, about 18 feet wide,
through the woods, and as we continue through the woods I can smell the scent of grasses and
flowers, along with the smell of exhaust from the vehicle in front of us. Riding along the trail for a
while longer, I can finally see it, pushing through the trees, the shack. Getting closer, I can smell the
smoke from the woodstove, or maybe the firepit. In front, the deck juts out from the front of the
building, like a branch on a tree. On the north side of the yard is a large woodpile, it smells of
balsam and pine, and to the right of that is the old, dilapidated building my dad and uncle lived in
while building the shack. To the south of the clearing is the fire pit, with a pile of

Organizational values have recently been regaining importance, which is reflected in the fact that
they are commonly referred to as organizational foundations.
Indeed, practice has proved that those values provide the basis for decisionmaking at all levels of
the organization from senior management to the nonmanagerial employees. This paper addresses
the issue of communicating organizational values in managerial communication. In particular,
communicating organizational values to employees, customers and other stakeholders is discussed.
It is concluded that although the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the following sections, the ways of communicating organizational values to employees and
customers as well as to other stakeholders will be looked at. It should be noted that managerial
communication of organizational values can facilitate a more powerful communication and
implementation of organizational values within an organization.
2. DEFINITION OF ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES
Over two thousand years ago, in 431 B.C., Pericles in Ancient Greece eloquently urged the
Athenians, who were at war with the Spartans, to adhere to values such as those inherent in
democracy: informality in communication, the importance of individual dignity, and promotion
based on performance.
Pericles realized that the underlying values might mean victory or defeat
(Weihrich and Koontz, 1998; 333). Nevertheless, it was not until the 1970s that a systematic
investigation of organizational values started within the psychological approach represented by
Milton Rokeach, who defined a value as
an enduring belief that a specific mode of conduct or end state of existence is personally and
socially preferable to an opposite or converse mode of conduct or end state of existence (Rokeach,
1973; 5). He also developed the first classification of values that was based on goals and means of
their achievement, wherein he distinguished terminal from instrumental values (Rokeach, 1973; 7),
defining them in the following way:
terminal values refer to desirable

Greek And Roman Mythology
Greek and Roman Mythology
Since the dawn of time, different societies have worshiped gods, believing in their power and
being afraid of their fury. People have prayed and made sacrifices in order to achieve the gods
mercy and generosity. They believed that, if the gods are in good mood, they will provide people
with good weather conditions for growing crops. People needed explanations for different natural
phenomena, such as rain, drought, lightning, thunder and earthquake. So, ancient people believed
that these natural phenomena are caused by the gods. A good example of such societies could be
ancient Greeks and Romans. Ancient Greeks and Romans existed in the middle ages. This essay

Romans call these twelve main gods and goddesses as follows: Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Mars, Feb,
Mercury, Volcano, Juno, Minerva, Venus, Diana, and Bacchus. They are the same gods and
goddesses with same powers, but with different names.
Even though the Roman religion is based on the Greek religion, there are number of differences
between gods of these societies. Romans have not just adopted their religion from Greeks. They
have also changed their religion according to their culture. So, if you read about Rome and
Greek gods and goddesses, you will see differences in their names. Romans gave their gods
names that are different from names of Greek gods. Thus, there are only few Greek and Roman
gods and goddesses that have similar names. Usually Roman gods and goddesses have names of
planets of the sun system, such as Jupiter, Mercury, Neptune and Mars. In contrast, Greek gods and
goddesses have their own names, such as Zeus, Hermes, Ares and Hera. For example, the goddess
of love is Venus in Roman mythology and Aphrodite in Greek mythology. Romans call the god of
war Mars, while Greeks call Ares. The god of sea is called Neptune in Roman mythology and
Poseidon in Greek mythology.
Furthermore, if you read about Roman and Greek gods, you will notice differences in characters
of gods and goddesses. Gods and goddesses usually have characters similar to people that believe
and pray to them, because people think up their

Thesis Statement On Capitalism And Capitalism
Introduction
Socialism and capitalism are two concepts that are used by governments in respective countries
regarding how the economies operate. The two concepts are based on political, economic and
social systems. The United States of America is an example of a capitalist country while Sweden is
a socialist nation. Apart from the similarity in which the government plays a role in the
effectiveness of the two systems, there is no discrimination in both systems regarding race, color or
other arbitrary classification. There are notable differences between the two systems based on
ownership structure, equity, and employment.

a.Ownership structure is similar because both systems rely on property, people, or goods for value
and the government plays a role.
b.In a capitalist economy, properties, land, capital, and businesses are owned and controlled by
individuals (Pigou, 2002).
c.In socialism, individuals should not have ownership of land, capital, or industry but rather the
whole community collectively owns and controls property, goods, and production (Cohen, 2008).
IV.Equity:
a.In capitalism and socialism, equity is important in both economic systems. Moreover, in both
systems, the owner or employee receive some form of equity.
b.Equity is not a concern under capitalism, and the argument is that inequality is the driving force
that encourages innovation.

Mr. Salman is highly educated, well organized, and well committed person. During his 2 year of

Mr. Salman also possessed strong interpersonal and leadership skills. When he interacted with his
fellow workers in order to get inputs on assigned tasks with tight deadlines, and if they were unable
to do so, he never got panic, rather he listened to them carefully, discussed the gaps and their issues
in the work and offered possible solutions to finish pending works. These situations he encountered
with many times during his stay, but he every time remained composed with himself and that
confirmed his maturity, persistence and profound negotiation and problem solving skills.
Together with his professional attributes, Mr. Salman was highly motivated and passionate about
helping the people, especially when it came to their health problems. One day, one of our senior

Complexities of the Capitalistic State
Complexities of the capitalistic state reinforce the higher economic class, while crises between
classes in society will reset the socially constructed inequalities. Social inequalities become
perpetrated by the state, by upholding the higher class. The way to equalize the classes is for
overthrow the state and expose the contradictions of capitalism. Quinney states that the role of the
state in capitalist society is to defend the interests of the ruling class (Quinney 2001 261). The state
defends the ruling class interests through the creation of law. The law, created by people of power,
structures the class system. Distinctions of classes are based on social characteristics. This
dominance in society is maintained and promoted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. Quinney fights that any action of the state is done to benefit the higher class in the capitalist
system. The state does not act as a third party in conflict, but solely reinforces the higher classes.
Meanwhile, the conflicts between the classes are rooted in the economics of society. The state
holds citizens in their respective classes, politically and economically, even though our nation is
declared to be democratic. A critical analysis of our societal legal order, according to Quinney,
must observe certain aspects of crime control in the capitalist state (Quinney 2001 262). First, a
look into the nature of the state must be made. The state was designed as a system, which is
designed to oppress lower classes. The second assessment is the determination of the relationship
between the dominating economic class and the state, which is not distinguished between the
ruling class and the state. The important questions posed in this aspect are to discover how the
ruling class came to rule, and how the state governs in a way to maintain the inequalities. The third
observation in assessing the legal order is to observe how the state develops in comparison to the
capitalist economy. Engles is quoted to argue that the development of the state is to become an
entity which protects the riches of individuals (Quinney 2001 263) in opposition to

Symbolism in the Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck
John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums is a story that is full of symbolism. After the first read, it
might seem like an innocent tale about a woman and her garden. However, upon further
examination, the reader learns it is actually a story about a woman s desires and frustrations in her
life. Steinbeck uses many examples, such as the flowers to symbolize the thoughts and ideas of the
main character, Elisa, in this story. Elisa Allen is a lonesome womanwho gets pleasure from growing
her chrysanthemums. Since her husband, Henry, is constantly working with the cattle in their farm,
Elisa never receives enough attention or any kind of affection. This neglect from her husband

Once again, the connection there is that he was interested in her flowers, meaning herself. The man
says, Kind of a long stemmed flower? Looks like a quick puff of colored smoke? ... That s it. What

comment. His compliment to her about her flowers leads her to feel obligated to allow him to fix
her pots. After Elisa lets the tinker into the yard, she goes and gets a bright red flower pot. The
fact that the pot is red is important here because red is a symbol of power and passion. At this point
in the story, Elisa is starting to feel her own power. She is understanding she can bring forth life
in her flowers, even if she is not powerful in other aspects of her life. Also, since the encounter
with the man is likened to a sexual experience, the red flower pot is significant of their passion
for one another, while the pot is symbolic of herself and her feelings. When Elisa is digging up
the flowers to put in the pot, Steinbeck comments that The gloves were forgotten now . This part
of the story is when she is coming to the height of her experience with the salesman. Digging in
the dirt is raw and it makes her feel free. While she was being sexually frustrated Elisa in the
beginning of the story, and covering her hands with gloves, now she has been liberated. After she

Masculinity And Women
What does it mean to be male or female? To you, masculinity is probably playing sports, drinking
beer while watching football games, and wearing a suit and tie. Masculinity is probably short
hair and bulging muscles. To you, femininity is probably dressing up in fancy dresses and
jewelry, putting on a face of makeup, and going to the nail salon. Femininity is probably long,
flowing hair and a slender body. This is not the truth, however. These images have been fed to us
by society since the day we were born. Society has created these idealistic men and women. A

Whis is it considered humorous when men dress up as women or women dress up as men? Why
is it considered wrong for a person of a certain gender to wear the clothing of another? Why is it
that these people these other human beings are taunted for being themselves? The answer to
that is simple. These innocent actions are perceived as disgusting and wrong in the eyes of
society. The arrogance of society has prevented us from pursuing something that would
guarantee happiness. They would rather ridicule us than allow us to disturb their perfect little
world. Thousands of us hide away in the shadows of anxiety instead of revealing our true self
because we know how society would react. They would reject us and isolate us until we revert

Zoollover Animal Pandemic By Davis Quammen Summary
A spillover , also referred to as zoonosis, can be best described as a disease that has the capability
to cross from another species to human beings. The scientists until now, have been successful in
identifying approximately 200 zoonotic diseases. In the recommended book, Spillover: Animal
Infections and the Next Human Pandemic, Davis Quammen has highlighted the emergence and
significant effects of zoonotic both human and animal all over the Blue planet. He has covered a
good number of the infamous diseases including the Ebola, HIV, malaria, SARS, influenza and
Lyme disease. This revolutionary complex story written down by the well known contemporary
writer is an union of adventure, action and secrecy. What surprised me the most is that Quammen
traveled across the globe for discovering the beginning of pandemics and outbreaks affecting
humans. Throughout the book, he constantly shows that the zoonotic spillovers are the causes of
HIV, SARS, and other human epidemics whereby humans are affected by the microbes transferred
through animals. The author talks about the spillover events and their causes eventually allowing
the readers to understand that it is, in fact, human beings whose activities spark the entire cycle

Infertility Treatment
Stress can be broadly defined as any external and internal events that affects an organism s well
being. In attempt to maintain homeostasis, the body will respond to the psychological stress by
modifying physiological processes (Nargund, 2015). Psychological stress is a number of emotional
events that interrupts homeostasis. The disruption of homeostasis can affect many biological
systems, such as metabolism, vascular function, tissue repair, nervous system and reproductive
system. Both emotional and physical stress can have a negative impact on human reproductive
function (Cousineau, 2007; Jakobovits et al, 2002). Therefore, it is very important to know how to

Infertility can be curable through treatments, but going through infertility treatment can be very
challenging. There are two factors that can cause an increase on stress level of someone who s
going through infertility treatment: cost and time. These two factors can add to the stress level of
couple whose experiencing infertility. Stress or anxiety can negatively affect the treatment of
infertility, and can put the pregnancy at risk. Also any before and after psychological illness may
affect fertilization therapy. However, it is recommended to go through psychotherapeutic treatment
while going through infertility treatment. There are many researches supporting this idea and a lot
of focus on different psychotherapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Another important factor regards the social support a patient gets from the partner, family and
friends and the role that plays on reducing stress during infertility treatment. Researchers suggested
that social support from partner, family and friends play a role on reducing infertility related stress,
also and couples with social support are more likely to go through infertility treatment successfully.

Sound and visual techniques were also depicted quite well. Murder and schizophrenia were vividly
interpreted in the movie Psychothrough the use of characters. The character of Norman Bateswas the
central character in the filmand had a complex and differing personality. One moment he was shy,
kind, lonely Norman Bates, a mother s boy, and the next he was a deadly jealous Mrs. Bates, his
deceased mother. This change of personalities was because he was affected by schizophrenia, and
at times his mother s side took over his persona. We can see this... Show more content on

Long before we find out about Norman s split personality, we see glimpses of a darker side.
When Norman has dinner with Marion, he leans forwards as he speaks about putting his mother
in an institution. The lighting of his face at an angle to illuminate the area around his eyes but
casting a shadow on the rest of his face, creates a sinister, weird look, that hints at his true
character. While we see this view of Norman, the background shifts to a more fierce looking bird
on the wall. Another visual technique used in the movie was the actual casting of the character
Norman. A fairly small, slim man was used to portray a weak looking man who could pull off
the mother s boy role realistically. Norman looks incapable of large amounts of strength as well
as a character wise, unable to kill a person, let alone be a serial killer. The shower scene was a
very good visual example of how the idea of schizophrenic murder was successfully dealt with in
the film. The shower scene showed Marion Crane, a young woman who had just been subtly
persuaded by Norman to repent of her recent crime, and so was washing herself physically and
symbolically in the shower. Washing away her sin and guilt, because in the morning she would
own up to her crime, pay for it, and start again, guilt free. This worked well to add greater
emphasis on the shower scene, because at this turning point in the plot we see she has made a
good decision to set things right. It is almost unbelievable that Marion could be murdered at this
high point. Nonetheless, the film goes on with her murder, which is a very shocking sequence
because it happens quickly; as the knife stabs Marion, we see the figure of Mrs. Bates a figure in a
dress with a woman s hat on. We are led to assume it is Mrs. Bates, and we are given a big surprise
at the end when we find out it was actually Norman wearing her dress. The

Contradictory Nature Of The American Identity
When the United States of America was created as an independent country at the end of the
Revolutionary War against Great Britain, the roots of an entirely new American identity took hold.
Though taking influence from its former parent country, the United States began its own system of
representative government. Furthermore, the American identity (shaped in the early years of 1775
to 1830) incorporated the ideals of agrarian farming, laissez faire economics, and capitalism.
Religion, though not a primary influence on the government, also contributed to the shaping of this
identity. While this largely benefited the American citizens, another group in the United Stateswas
affected in other ways. African slaves and their American born children were ignored by the
Constitution which, in its original form, only referred to slaves as other persons , but the
contradictory nature of the new American identity both lead to greater freedom and more
widespread bondage. Slaves and freedom alike suffered under, exploited, and coped with the aspects
of agrarian farming and agriculture in general, capitalism, and Christianity in America.
The American Revolution began the contradictory nature of the American identity as it applied to
slaves. The event that began the independence of the American personality also triggered the first
opportunities for freedom and assimilation for Black Americans. For example, in Virginia in 1775,
Lord Dunmore, the British governor of Virginia, declared that

Winnie s Women Struggle
Drawing, crafting, and cutting the Chinese characters took longer than what was predicted, mainly
due to the delicate care and precaution I committed. The reason why I did this was because I was
trying to configure it in such a way that the characters display a delicate and refined structure.
Although the characters translated to Women Struggle , I also incorporated some details that
represent society s status quo for women. For instance, for the phrase women should look charming
and act perky , I made sure that the slices and cuts were somewhat precise. Despite trying so hard to
perfect the cuts, it was just too difficult to master, but that is also another meaning. With the little
slivers of paper jutting out, it demonstrates that women... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Vietnam War On The Movie, Platoon, As A Portal
Platoon
The Vietnam War was one the most controversial wars in America. This paper is meant to
examine the Vietnam War using the movie, Platoon, as a portal. Analyzing scenes in the movie
and how they pertain to the films ideology. The paper will look at the struggles presented in war
from the outlook of the grunt. It will look at the pro war and anti war view of propaganda. It will
look at the good and evil, right and wrong, conflicts in the film. How do these messages reflect
the reality of the war? Is the agenda to create a vision of reality or is the film simply a form of
entertainment?
The film, Platoon, is the perspective of the VietnamWar in 1967 through the eyes of Chris Taylor
(Charlie Sheen). Chris leaves school to enlist in combat and once he starts he quickly questions
his decision. He has two officers, Sergeant Barnes (Tom Berenger) and Sergeant Elias (Willem
Dafoe). The two officers have different views; Barnes, who wants revenge because he believes that
the VC (Viet Cong) ground troops are being safeguarded by a local village, and Elias, who has a
more peaceful, less violent demeanor. Tension builds between Barnes and Alias until Barnes shoots
a villager in the head, Elias intervenes preventing annihilation of the village inhabitants. This event
causes the platoon to split into two camps which pit against each other, causing conflict with the
enemy and the men in the platoon.
The film will be examined using the ideological film theory. The film

Motor Vehicle Safety Essay
Problem Statement:
Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and are the
leading cause of death in children aged 13 and under [1]. In 2015, 220 per one million children
under the age of 4 were involved in fatal motor vehicle accidents [1]. In addition to motor vehicle
accidents, improper uses of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in cars are known to cause an
increased risk of injury. Targeting the specific aspect of children being incorrectly fastened to their
car seats could possibly prevent injuries and/or deaths due to motor vehicle accidents. These deaths
are a topic of concern due to that fact that children need more protection in vehicles than adults do.
According to PennDOT, children under age four must be securely fastened in a federally
approved child passenger restraint system (CRS) [2]. However, there are multiple studies and
statistics that show that many families do not know how to correctly use a child car seat. A
Canadian study, which observed more than 13,000 children, noted that approximately only 90%
were using car seats. Of these, only 60% were using the correct type of car seat, with only 20% of
those aged four to eight years old using booster seats [3]. A Manitoba study found that

The Role Of Prayer In Public Schools
Throughout the United States, the religious rights of students are frequently being pushed to the
side. The majority of the religious rights being threatened belong to non believers. Conservatives
often argue that it is a student s and teacher s right to pray in public schools, trying to persuade the
American public that they are truly concerned about the rights of the students. However, in all
reality, they truly do not care about the religious rights, but instead they care about power. Charles
C. Haynes, director of the Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute, said it like this, If

Christians claimed in their argument that as long as a specific divine being is not mentioned in
the prayer said at school it does not violate the Establishment Clause; however, that is not the
case. Many religions do not believe a specific being or believe in praying to any type of divine
being. Therefore, praying in public schools, even not mentioning God, is still in violation of the
Establishment Clause due to the religions that believe in nothing. Secondly, one of their strongest
arguments was that moral decline in public schools was due to the absence of prayer. When they
make the statement that the rate of pregnancies, drug busts, and fights in public school systems
are inclining due to the absence of prayer they are committing a logical fallacy. They are making
a rather bold statement when saying that since prayer has been taking out of schools, the rate of
teenage pregnancies has steadily rose. This is a false analogy, also known as the cause and effect
fallacy. They assume that since one thing occurred (prayer being removed from schools) has caused
another event to occur (rise of immorality in schools). With this argument, they went too far and
completely lose their credibility. They cannot assume or expect the American public to believe that

William Bennett Drug Policy And The Intellectuals Summary
In his essay, Drug Policy and the Intellectuals , William Bennett dissects the intellectuals role in the
National Drug Policy and explains that they are too uninterested and too lazy when it comes to this
debate. Bennett understands that the drug policy is a complex problem, and forcefully suggests
that it must be broken down carefully in order to find a conclusion that best fits our nation as a
whole. Bennett s major claims are that legalization will be wholly ineffective and detrimental, our
society has multiple drugrelated problems that urgently need solutions, and finally he offers what
he believes to be the most viable and effective solutions to the problem at hand. Bennett explains
that the drug problem is not one that can be easily solved, therefore the simple act of legalizing
drugs would prove to being effective and the solution requires more analysis. He goes one to

The Determinants Of Foreign Direct Investment

The topic of my dissertation is about the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) in
developing countries. With the trend of economic integration, FDI has been considered as an
important part of boosting the economic development within any country around the world. Foreign
direct investments differ entirely from indirect investments such as portfolio management. The
direct way of investing in a foreign country can be conducted in a number of ways either by
establishing overseas controlled corporations, or associate company abroad, by obtaining shares of
an multinational company, or though a joint venture.

This study is focused on the two aspects: market seeking FDI and resource seeking FDI. These two
aspects which influence the determination of FDI can be denominated by some numerical
variables. In terms of market seeking, GDP and the rate of inflation can be used to measure the
market size and market growth respectively. The sum of exports and imports of goods and
services indicates the openness of an economy, which also means the availability of access to
regional and global markets. On the other hand, raw materials and human capital are the key
elements for those resource seeking enterprises. Thus, labour cost per worker in logs denotes
human capital. With all the variables above, a specific regression model are able to build to
investigate the research question.
Theory of the study
FDI has grown strongly with the rapid speed of globalization. There are a few theories which
attempt to explain the motives for and determinants of it. The early theory arose on the basis of
international business. Another theory that is well accepted is called New Economic Geography.
This study is based on the theory derived from the eclectic paradigm of Dunning. Dunning (1977)
introduced three types of advantages in terms of determining the location of FDI, which are owner
specific advantage, location specific advantage and internalization specific advantage.

Charles Darwin had arguably one of the best ideas anyone has ever had, the idea of evolution
and natural selection. Along with these two ideas, he also noticed that all species are connected
through the tree of life. While Darwin was studying finches in the Galapagos, he noticed each
species of finch had a different type of beak. He latter understood that these different beaks were
due to the varying types of diets of the birds based on what island they came from. The different
beaks would help them open seeds easier or get nectar from flowers. The beaks showed Darwin s

The company must factor in that each of their customers has lifetime value, a greater value than a
small gain made on first sales. With competition in their sector, more penetration pricing would be
appropriate. The penetrating pricing strategy would only make sense to retain customers; the
pricing strategy must realize lifetime value, (University of Phoenix, 2011).
Acer should avoid high price tactics, or selling off their market share. By doing this, they would
retain only a small percentage of the market. Acer currently does not have the capacity to capture
a niche market based on the uniqueness of their products (University of Phoenix, 2011). Their
customers are not willing to pay a much higher price for this new product. In general, most
businesses tend to skew a penetration price too high in an attempt to make more money. Based on
Acer s market, it would make sense to consider cost plus pricing; they would charge their prices
explicitly with reference to average costs plus a percentage profit mark up. Predatory pricing and
limit pricing would not be appropriate (McConnell Brue, 2004).
Acer has a degree of control over its prices and a considerable amount of non price competitions
exists, which ultimately leads to price discrimination (University of Phoenix, 2011). As such, Acer
should focus on attaining and retaining loyal customers. Their non pricing strategy should be

The Battle Of The War
World War One was the cause of over eleven million military personnel deaths. Six million of those
came from the side of the Triple Entente, or Allies. New fighting strategies that emphasized
throwing more and more men into the fight only exacerbated the problem. Military leaders on the
side of the Alliesfailed to adapt and sacrificed the lives of many that could have been avoided.
Based on concrete evidence that was collected, this was a major factor in high casualty numbers
during the war because of the use of outdated tactics, pre determined mindsets of leaders, and the
continued use of strategies that were ineffective.
A popular form of war fighting was based in cavalry charges that rapidly declined in effectiveness

As a result of this, artillery did not have as destructive effect that the Allies wanted. This lack of
knowledge and ignorant assumptions did not account for many Allied casualties but it did not
decrease the number of enemy troops to where the Allies had an advantage (Axelrod, 94). This
battle could have been a major success for the Allies with much fewer casualties had the military
leaders knew what they were up against. Too many times during the war, tactical preparations
before battles were slim and military leaders decided to attack based on previously accurate
knowledge; only to find out that this war changed every minute and the enemy was changing as
well. This military incompetence can also be seen in the Battle of Verdun in 1916. General
PГ©tain s plan during the battle was described as this: Every parcel of land which might be
seized by the enemy will give rise to an immediate counter attack (Malcolm, ch 8). This bold, yet
ineffective strategy allowed for hundreds of thousands of French soldiers to lose their lives over the
course of the battle. PГ©tain simply wanted to keep throwing men at the Germans who were armed
with much better weapons that did nothing but increase the intensity of the war of attrition.
Although the men who died on the battlefield were very brave and committed to winning the war,
they were following blind leadership. Overall, Verdun was a strategic win but a tactical failure that

Essay about Problems in Air Traffic Control and Proposed...
Problems in Air Traffic Control and Proposed Solutions
In northern California this summer, the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) unintentionally performed it s first operational test of free flight ; aviation without direct air
traffic control. This was an unintentional experiment because it was a result of a total shut down of
the Oakland Air Route
Traffic Control Center (ARTCC).
Although Oakland is only the 16th busiest ARTCC, it s responsible for the largest block of
airspace of any ATC facility; 18 million square miles.
Oakland directs all upper level flight from San Luis Obispo, California to the

Flight crews did their own improvising. Some pilots squawked VFR and continued the flight on
their own. Others continued on their previously issued clearance, while others climbed into or
descended out of Class A airspace without a clearance. Later analysis tells us one of the biggest
problems was nobody believed a prolonged outage like this could occur. Both controllers and
supervisors worked on the assumption their radar and radios would come back any moment now .
The same thought process prevailed at Bay (Oakland) TRACON where operations were
paralyzed by the Center s blackout. It s impossible to say how many separation losses occurred
during the hour long episode. Some near mid air reports were filed, but the vast majority of
separation loss situations will probably go unreported. After power was restored, and the primary
radar system was returned to operation, extensive air traffic delays, diversions, and flight
cancellations persisted for many hours at
Bay area airports, especially departures from San Francisco International. We may never know the
full aftermath of this incident. Changes will be made as to how power is fed to ATC facilities, and
how maintenance is performed.
Contingency plans will be rewritten and controllers will be trained how to implement them.
Meanwhile, controllers nation wide are brushing up on their non radar and lost comm procedures.

How Liesel’s Actions Place Her and Others in Dangerous...
Reluctance or stubbornness in ending impulsive actions can have consequences. In the Book
Thief by Markus Zusak, Liesel Meminger s inability to halt her dangerous habits put her and
others lives in dangerous situations. Three main examples of Liesel s dangerous activities are
when she steals books, when she demonstrates kindness at improper times, and when she
disrespects others for her own selfish reasons. In all these examples, there is always one
moment where Liesel places her or others in harm s way and narrowly escapes punishment.
Every time Liesel steals books from people, she consistently places the lives of others at risk. An
example of this is when Liesel is worried about Max dying and wants to steal a book and read it to

Some people perceive kindness in different ways as what they might think seems nice, could be
harmful to others. When Liesel tries to communicate with Max, she does not pause to think that
such an action would put her and Max in danger. On page 513, the book narrates He cried as the
soldiers came and a small collection...Standing, he was whipped . It was Max who was the one
whipped by the soldiers because they saw Liesel hugging and talking to him. Max s life was
placed in danger because Liesel thought she was being kind by talking to him. It is
understandable that she wanted to communicate with Max after a long time of not seeing him,
but the manner in which she conveyed her emotions to him was too obvious to the soldiers
watching. Had Rudy not been quick on his feet to go and help her, she would ve been punished
more for speaking with Max. In addition to the immediate damage done, other people who
witnessed the situation would think that Liesel s family was sympathetic to Jews, something not
considered good at that time. The long term consequences of Liesel s stubbornness to speak with
Max set an even deeper impression to when Hans gave the bread to the Jews and therefore puts
her and her family in more danger. This is another example of Liesel s stubbornness, or perceived
kindness, which place her and others lives in danger. Lastly, there are many small

Symbolic Significance Of The Thief And The Dogs
The symbolic significance of Nur in The Thief and the Dogs, by Naguib Mahfouz
Naguib Mahfouz s The Thief and the Dogs was written in 1961 and is a highly complex novel
amongst the author s most celebrated works. Utilising a stream of consciousness style that engages
the reader from the opening to the conclusion of the novel, it embraces themes like morality,
anarchy, revenge and betrayal. However, it also examines the impact of darkness and it is this
theme that is highlighted by minor characters throughout the text. For example, Nur, a prostitute
who is in love with main protagonist Said, is introduced in order to inject lightness into the
narrative in stark contrast to the dark and disheartening tales that are conveyed through the more
prevalent characters.
Nur s introduction to the novel does not occur until the fifth chapter, by which time the dark tone
of the narrative has already been established. This is significant because her delayed entrance
comes against a backdrop in which every vestige of hope, of human redemption, is notably absent.
For example, Mahfouz deliberately constructs an isolated and desolate landscape that provides an
apt parallel to Said in the previous chapter: ...the dawn shed dewy compassion, giving momentary
solace for the loss of everything, even the two bank notes, and he surrendered to it . This use of
metaphor does not leave room for light against the darkness but Nur s introduction remedies that,
offering an alternative. This is made

Classroom Inequality In Schools
Inequality is a constant issue in our world today in social and job settings. Many people across
the world have very strong feelings about inequality and it is becoming an important issue. What
some people do not realize is that inequality has entered schools. In all schools there are different
teaching and class levels, and many students are not getting an equal opportunity in order to be
successful in the future. In some cases, this is due to money problems; but in other cases it might
just be the schooland how it is run. Understandably, schools can not guide every student towards
success; however all students around the world are not given equal classroom opportunities in order
to be successful in their future.
Classroom opportunities are different all around the world and schools differ in the level of the
classes that are taught. Obviously, the schools in the United States do not get all the same
classes as schools in Europe. There are some schools in the world that do not let students take
the type of classes that is in the appropriate level or subject for their future. Fremont High, a
school in California, is one of these schools. One student was required to take a sewing class
when she wanted to take an AP class. (Kozol). AP classes and sewing or hairdressing classes do
not even come close to comparing level wise. Obviously, this student is being held back because
her school pushed her to take a class that is not equal to the level she could have been in. Not

Things You Need To Know Before Buying A New Computer
Buying a new computer is a difficult task, filled with jargon and lots of competitors trying to get
you to part with your hard earned money. It can be extremely tricky to know what kind of
computer to get, and which computer will best serve your needs, especially with new tablets and
netbooks hitting the market every day.
The most important question you will need to ask yourself is: what do I need or want a computer
for? What tasks do I want to be able to accomplish? It can be very easy to get seduced by offers
of higher performance and state of the art graphics, but if you never use the computer to its full
potential, then that is simply money wasted. Conversely, if you wanted to use a computer for
gaming or creative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Designed to be a static unit, desktops are usually much heavier and larger than laptops or
netbooks. However, this allows for them to be comparatively faster and more powerful than a
similarly priced laptop. If you need or want power on a budget and do not need to work on the
move regularly, a desktop is a great choice. The extra power possible also makes desktops a good
choice for gamers and media creators, too. The design of most desktops also makes it possible to
upgrade units with more memory, higher powered graphics and sound, and more processing
power, if you know what you are doing. This also means that many hardware malfunctions if you
are unlucky enough to experience any can be fixed simply for the price of the part and labour.
The largest disadvantage of desktops is the lack of portability. Many people need the ability to
take their work with them, and this can be a severe limitation. Unlike a laptop, you may have to
buy a monitor for a desktop separately, and they can be more difficult to set up. In smaller homes
or if you need to travel frequently, dedicating a space to a large computer might also be an issue,
as is moving

Essay On Jacob Riis
Jacob
Riis was born on May 3, 1849 in Ribe, Denmark and later immigrated to the
United States in 1870 at the age of 21. When he arrived in New York city he had a total of only $40
and a locket that he had for as long as he can remember
(study.com). He did a lot of odd jobs around the city to earn just enough money to get by. Soon
there later he became a police reporter and found an interest in the things that he saw. So he
taught himself some photography skills and took a camera with him every time that he walked
the streets. His belief was that a picture was worth 1,000 words so experimenting in the new field
of photography. He presented the photos to the public to show them what exactly some people
have to grow up with. His photos were spread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed that it was morally wrong to have children in the work force epically one s working
with such harsh and dangerous conditions. So he protested and fought to get companies to get rid
of all child workers that they have employed. He had a humongous impact on the child laborers in
the United states. His stance was that a child should experience childhood and have fun because it
was the only chance they will have. Childhood was definitely not trying to be an adult in the
work force to help their family survive. After all, they got paid less than half of the adults and had
to fix the small parts on dangerous machinery because, they were the only ones small enough to do
the job. This was a terrible thought for Riis to imagine so he did what he had to do.
Jacob Riis also had very strong religious beliefs that he followed throughout his lifetime. Before
Riis moved to the United States, his family was Lutheran but as he started to form his own
opinion, he converted over to Methodist (New York Times). These beliefs strongly influenced
everything that he did. He was a very persistent person and attacked to prove a point especially
when it came to his

Allusions In Daddy s Daddy
Allusions in Daddy help express the speaker s view of her father, as well as developing the
conflict between them. The allusions reveal a parent that is physically and mentally abusive,
leading to immense anger towards the father but also a need of that abusive behavior. The
speaker uses allusions that are revealing about her father s characteristics like that her father is a
strict man, as she was Barely daring to breathe or Achoo. She believed that her father treated her
with neglect and compares herself to a foot, being poor and white , as well as living in black shoe .
The speaker believe that her father was also a godly figure as she refers to him as marble heavy and
a statue , but she feels it necessary that she kills him.

Western Civilization Essays
Western Civilization from 1589 to 1914 had many specific changes that contributed to the structure
of the western world before World War I. In the absolutism state sovereignty is embodied in the
person of the ruler. Kings were absolute kings and were resposible to no none except god. In the
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries absolute rulers had to respect the fundamental laws of their
land. They had to control competing jurisdictions, institutions or groups that were interested in their
territory. They regulated religious sects. France of Louis was the classic model of absolutism.
Louis XIV, quot; the sun king, quot; was a devoted Catholic who believed that god had estalblished

They believed that around the earth were ten circular spheres and that beyond the spheres was
heaven. Science in this period was primarily a branch of theology. Galileo contributed greatly to
the world of science. He discovered the laws of motion using the experimental method. He also
used the experimental method to astronomy, using the newly invented telescope. Galileo was tried
by the Inquisition for heresy in 1633 and forced to recant his views. The scientific revolution caused
the Medieval Universities to provide frame world for new science. The renaissance stimulated by
science rediscovering ancient mathematics and supporting scientific investigations. The scientific
community s primary goal was to expand knowledge. Because the link between pure science and
applied technology was weak, the scientific revolution had little effect on daily life before the 19th
century.
The Enlightenment also had its benefits to the western world. The Enlightenment was an
intellectual and cultural movement that tied together certain key ideas and was the link between
the scientific revolution and a new world view. Some of these ideas were the natural science and
reasoon can explain all aspects of life. And that the scientific method can explain the laws of human
society. Also, another idea was progress the creation of better societies and better people is
possible. Many writers made scientific thought

The BP Oil Spill and Leadership Issues
The BP Oil Spill An Introductory Background One of the most controversial ecological disasters
in recent history focused on multinational British Petroleum and their Gulf of Mexico
Operations. The Deepwater Oil Disaster began on April 20, 2010 with an explosion on the
Deepwater Horizon Oil platform, killing 11, injuring 17. It was not until July 15th, however,
that the leak was stopped by capping the wellhead, after releasing almost 5 million barrels (206
million gallons) of crude oil, or 53,000 barrels per day into the Gulf of Mexico. It was not until
September 19th that the relief well process was complete and the U.S. Government, EPA, and
Coast Guard agencies declared the well breach effectively stopped (Cavnar, 2010). The damage
caused by the spill is almost immeasurable; ecological, political, economic, social it almost
devastated the U.S. Gulf Coast fishing and tourism industries. Even in January 2011 a report
was made by oil spill experts from the University of Georgia stating that tar balls continue to
wash up on beaches, collect in shrimp nets, kill marsh grass, and even undegraded oil in the
seabed (Dykes, 2011). It will likely be years, if not decades, before the final assessment of
damage, short term and long term, is accurately noted from this disaster. Part 1 Ethical Dilemmas
The accident elicited many feelings anger, disillusionment, disgust, and even employees feeling
like they were let down because BP had not backed up its values promised to

  • 2. What Is The Purpose Of Romantic Poems By Wordsworth LYRICAL BALLADS, A EXPERIMENT SULAIM SARFRAZ In the Advertisement included in the 1798 edition of the lyrical ballads, Wordsworth explained why this project of his was an experiment The majority of the following poems are to be considered as experiments. They were written chiefly with a view to ascertain how far the language of conversation in the middle and lower classes of society is adapted to the purpose of poetic pleasure. (Lyrical Ballads, Wordsworth) The basic purpose of this experiment was to revolt against the existing poetic practices that were completely devoid of emotion and based purely on logic and reason like the poetry of the Augustan Age. It brought novelty and freshness to English literature that had grown stale with the Augustan age. Though from the outside it brought revolutionary changes to the literary scene of the time, the preface and Wordsworth theory of poetry did not live up to what it preached as in many poems Wordsworth himself completely discarded his own ideals and his partner in the creation of lyrical ballads Coleridge himself wrote Biographia Literaria, a part of which is solely the criticism on Wordsworth s theory of poetry. He rejected some of Wordsworth s ideas completely i.e. that of poetic diction and the language of real men etc while he still believed in the great importance of Nature in poetry that is the common characteristic of all romantic literature, but at the same time his poems are not solely based on the natural. He believed that the objective of poetry is only to give pleasure not to convey a truth which is the complete opposite of what Wordsworth believed and that it should have organic unity, the essence of which is that just like a living organism that cannot be separated from any of its parts without injury, all parts of a poem must fit together as a whole. USCSOA5/2/2013 ARCH 470 Charles Lagreco Guillermo Heuze Final Paper: How will 3D printing affect the process and quality of constructing housing in the 21st Century? The role of Technology in the 21st century cannot be over looked. It has completely transformed the way we live and the way we interact with each other. It has enabled the formation of numerous possibilities that were not previously imaginable. 3D printing has evolved so much in the past 5 years where we can now virtually make any shape using this technology. Although in the past it was reserved for smaller items such as machinery parts, it is now being used to create much bigger items such as cars and even houses. It has also become much cheaper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is something that evolution in technology can change, like anything in our society, as time progresses these technologies become more and more open to the public. (Picture A) The History Throughout history we can see that housing has followed certain trends. These trends are most heavily influenced by the technology available to the public at that time. As can be seen throughout history, living conditions in general have improved, as there are more access to resources and building technologies. Although the world we live in has changed greatly, the basic type of shelter needed for everyday life and the resources needed to construct them has changed very little. This is why we can see a lot of parallels between the ways people live throughout history. However, the biggest change is in the way we construct buildings and especially housing. History has taught us that as time goes by, technology increases, making it easier for us to build structures. For example the Egyptians relied solely on Adobe (sun dried mud bricks) and slave labor for construction. Then came the development of hydraulic lime mortar, the Treadwell cranes (which is a wooden, human powered hoisting and lowering device) as well as the start of domes and arches, as structural components in architecture. • 6. Descriptive Essay About A Shack Back in 1981, my dad, uncle, aunt and grandpa all helped work on building a shack in the middle of the woods. At the time it was built, none of them could have imagined what it would mean to the family today. I bet, back during that summer, they were only concerned with where the deer were, but although the deer have moved on from that area, the shack still sees widespread use. Now days, we use it for a place to sleep before going out duck hunting because of the Willow River and the many logans that surround it. On the contrary, the shack gets used for one, non hunting event, every year: the spaghetti feed. Because of its importance, the shack is instrumental in bringing the family together. When I was a little boy, only about five years old, I spent my first night at the shack. Before this I had only heard of the shack and what it looked like: barn shaped; red, chink board siding all surrounded by trees. Now that I am finally able to go up there, I can not wait to see it for myself. The ride to the shack was nothing standard; we had to take four wheelers through some hay fields, then get on a county road and drive to the north for a while. After that we turn off, onto a trail along the ditch bank near the rice paddies and follow that until we get to a clearing in the woods. At the clearing there is not much to see; just some trees on the outside, on the left there is a 1960s looking Mack truck parked by the ditch bank, and to the right is the way to the shack. The road is nothing more than matted down grass, about 18 feet wide, through the woods, and as we continue through the woods I can smell the scent of grasses and flowers, along with the smell of exhaust from the vehicle in front of us. Riding along the trail for a while longer, I can finally see it, pushing through the trees, the shack. Getting closer, I can smell the smoke from the woodstove, or maybe the firepit. In front, the deck juts out from the front of the building, like a branch on a tree. On the north side of the yard is a large woodpile, it smells of balsam and pine, and to the right of that is the old, dilapidated building my dad and uncle lived in while building the shack. To the south of the clearing is the fire pit, with a pile of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It should be noted that managerial communication of organizational values can facilitate a more powerful communication and implementation of organizational values within an organization. 2. DEFINITION OF ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES Over two thousand years ago, in 431 B.C., Pericles in Ancient Greece eloquently urged the Athenians, who were at war with the Spartans, to adhere to values such as those inherent in democracy: informality in communication, the importance of individual dignity, and promotion based on performance. Pericles realized that the underlying values might mean victory or defeat (Weihrich and Koontz, 1998; 333). Nevertheless, it was not until the 1970s that a systematic investigation of organizational values started within the psychological approach represented by Milton Rokeach, who defined a value as an enduring belief that a specific mode of conduct or end state of existence is personally and socially preferable to an opposite or converse mode of conduct or end state of existence (Rokeach, 1973; 5). He also developed the first classification of values that was based on goals and means of their achievement, wherein he distinguished terminal from instrumental values (Rokeach, 1973; 7), defining them in the following way: terminal values refer to desirable ... The state holds citizens in their respective classes, politically and economically, even though our nation is declared to be democratic. A critical analysis of our societal legal order, according to Quinney, must observe certain aspects of crime control in the capitalist state (Quinney 2001 262). First, a look into the nature of the state must be made. The state was designed as a system, which is designed to oppress lower classes. The second assessment is the determination of the relationship between the dominating economic class and the state, which is not distinguished between the ruling class and the state. The important questions posed in this aspect are to discover how the ruling class came to rule, and how the state governs in a way to maintain the inequalities. The third observation in assessing the legal order is to observe how the state develops in comparison to the capitalist economy. His compliment to her about her flowers leads her to feel obligated to allow him to fix her pots. After Elisa lets the tinker into the yard, she goes and gets a bright red flower pot. While we see this view of Norman, the background shifts to a more fierce looking bird on the wall. Another visual technique used in the movie was the actual casting of the character Norman. A fairly small, slim man was used to portray a weak looking man who could pull off the mother s boy role realistically. Norman looks incapable of large amounts of strength as well as a character wise, unable to kill a person, let alone be a serial killer. The shower scene was a very good visual example of how the idea of schizophrenic murder was successfully dealt with in the film. The shower scene showed Marion Crane, a young woman who had just been subtly persuaded by Norman to repent of her recent crime, and so was washing herself physically and symbolically in the shower. Washing away her sin and guilt, because in the morning she would own up to her crime, pay for it, and start again, guilt free. This worked well to add greater emphasis on the shower scene, because at this turning point in the plot we see she has made a good decision to set things right. It is almost unbelievable that Marion could be murdered at this high point. Nonetheless, the film goes on with her murder, which is a very shocking sequence because it happens quickly; as the knife stabs Marion, we see the figure of Mrs. Bates a figure in a dress with a woman s hat on. Contradictory Nature Of The American Identity When the United States of America was created as an independent country at the end of the Revolutionary War against Great Britain, the roots of an entirely new American identity took hold. Though taking influence from its former parent country, the United States began its own system of representative government. Furthermore, the American identity (shaped in the early years of 1775 to 1830) incorporated the ideals of agrarian farming, laissez faire economics, and capitalism. Religion, though not a primary influence on the government, also contributed to the shaping of this identity. While this largely benefited the American citizens, another group in the United Stateswas affected in other ways. African slaves and their American born children were ignored by the Constitution which, in its original form, only referred to slaves as other persons , but the contradictory nature of the new American identity both lead to greater freedom and more widespread bondage. Slaves and freedom alike suffered under, exploited, and coped with the aspects of agrarian farming and agriculture in general, capitalism, and Christianity in America. • 24. The Vietnam War On The Movie, Platoon, As A Portal Platoon The Vietnam War was one the most controversial wars in America. This paper is meant to examine the Vietnam War using the movie, Platoon, as a portal. Analyzing scenes in the movie and how they pertain to the films ideology. The paper will look at the struggles presented in war from the outlook of the grunt. It will look at the pro war and anti war view of propaganda. It will look at the good and evil, right and wrong, conflicts in the film. How do these messages reflect the reality of the war? Is the agenda to create a vision of reality or is the film simply a form of entertainment? The film, Platoon, is the perspective of the VietnamWar in 1967 through the eyes of Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen). Chris leaves school to enlist in combat and once he starts he quickly questions his decision. He has two officers, Sergeant Barnes (Tom Berenger) and Sergeant Elias (Willem Dafoe). The two officers have different views; Barnes, who wants revenge because he believes that the VC (Viet Cong) ground troops are being safeguarded by a local village, and Elias, who has a more peaceful, less violent demeanor. Tension builds between Barnes and Alias until Barnes shoots a villager in the head, Elias intervenes preventing annihilation of the village inhabitants. This event causes the platoon to split into two camps which pit against each other, causing conflict with the enemy and the men in the platoon. The film will be examined using the ideological film theory. The film ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Motor Vehicle Safety Essay Problem Statement: Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and are the leading cause of death in children aged 13 and under [1]. In 2015, 220 per one million children under the age of 4 were involved in fatal motor vehicle accidents [1]. In addition to motor vehicle accidents, improper uses of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in cars are known to cause an increased risk of injury. Targeting the specific aspect of children being incorrectly fastened to their car seats could possibly prevent injuries and/or deaths due to motor vehicle accidents. These deaths are a topic of concern due to that fact that children need more protection in vehicles than adults do. According to PennDOT, children under age four must be securely fastened in a federally approved child passenger restraint system (CRS) [2]. However, there are multiple studies and statistics that show that many families do not know how to correctly use a child car seat. A Canadian study, which observed more than 13,000 children, noted that approximately only 90% were using car seats. Of these, only 60% were using the correct type of car seat, with only 20% of those aged four to eight years old using booster seats [3]. Therefore, praying in public schools, even not mentioning God, is still in violation of the Establishment Clause due to the religions that believe in nothing. Secondly, one of their strongest arguments was that moral decline in public schools was due to the absence of prayer. When they make the statement that the rate of pregnancies, drug busts, and fights in public school systems are inclining due to the absence of prayer they are committing a logical fallacy. They are making a rather bold statement when saying that since prayer has been taking out of schools, the rate of teenage pregnancies has steadily rose. This is a false analogy, also known as the cause and effect fallacy. Bennett s major claims are that legalization will be wholly ineffective and detrimental, our society has multiple drugrelated problems that urgently need solutions, and finally he offers what he believes to be the most viable and effective solutions to the problem at hand. The sum of exports and imports of goods and services indicates the openness of an economy, which also means the availability of access to regional and global markets. Symbolic Significance Of The Thief And The Dogs The symbolic significance of Nur in The Thief and the Dogs, by Naguib Mahfouz Naguib Mahfouz s The Thief and the Dogs was written in 1961 and is a highly complex novel amongst the author s most celebrated works. Utilising a stream of consciousness style that engages the reader from the opening to the conclusion of the novel, it embraces themes like morality, anarchy, revenge and betrayal. However, it also examines the impact of darkness and it is this theme that is highlighted by minor characters throughout the text. For example, Nur, a prostitute who is in love with main protagonist Said, is introduced in order to inject lightness into the narrative in stark contrast to the dark and disheartening tales that are conveyed through the more prevalent characters. Nur s introduction to the novel does not occur until the fifth chapter, by which time the dark tone of the narrative has already been established. This is significant because her delayed entrance comes against a backdrop in which every vestige of hope, of human redemption, is notably absent. For example, Mahfouz deliberately constructs an isolated and desolate landscape that provides an apt parallel to Said in the previous chapter: ...the dawn shed dewy compassion, giving momentary solace for the loss of everything, even the two bank notes, and he surrendered to it . This use of metaphor does not leave room for light against the darkness but Nur s introduction remedies that, offering an alternative. This is made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
