The Negative Effects Of Animal Testing
Animal testing has been around since 500 BC starting with dissecting animals in ancient greece.
French animal testers believed that animals were automata and could not feel pain or emotions. There
was no public objections to animal testing until the 19th century when there was an increase of
adopting domestic pets. Nowadays public opinion is split down the middle on whether or not animals
should be tested on. The animals are generally tested on for cosmetics, health, commercial,
biomedical, space and military purposes. People for animal testing think of it as a way to save human
and animal lives, and that there is no other way to get this good of data. They also believe that the
strict rules prevent any mistreatment of the animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With only using petri dishes scientists are not able to find all the affects, for example loss in eyesight
can not be tested with only using it on tissue sample(Kara Rogers). Animal testing benefits the animals
themselves too. The American Veterinary Medical Association actually supports animal testing, in
many cases the tests on animals have saved many species from becoming extinct like the california
condor, and the tamarins(American Association).
People opposed to animal testing will say that it is inhumane and cruel. Animals in the tests are said to
be force feed, and forced inhalation, they also are forced to have cosmetics dropped into their eyes to
see the outcome. The US Department of agriculture said that around 97,123 animals in 2010 suffered
during testing, and were not given antithetic. We can now test in other ways that do not include
animals, like in vitro testing. We can also use human volunteers, and only use enough that it does not
severely damage them. There are also computer simulations that will show how it affects the body.
Drugs that pass animal testing are not necessarily safe, like in the 1950 s a sleeping pill was shown to
cause birth defects even though it had been tested by animals.
Although the opposing side has many intriguing arguments, animal testing is still the most plausible
way to better the general health of the population. In order to better the conditions of the

Investigating The Correlation Between Surface Area And Volume
AIM
To investigate the relationships between the shape of an object and the time taken for a substance to
diffuse into its center and to investigate the correlation between surface area and volume in regards to
cellular transport.
BACKGROUND THEORY / INTRODUCTION
Cells are the basic unit of life of which all living organisms are built upon, they are the smallest living
organizational unit and they all come from pre existing cells which has been supported by several
scientists in the formation of cell theory [Biological physics, 2013]. The structure of a cell is strongly
correlated with its function and the way it acts in relation to other cells and biological processes such
as diffusion. Cells are specialized for many different purposes and their structures reflect these
functions. Every living organism can be classified into two different cell groups; eukaryote cells and
prokaryote cells.
Image 1 [Biochemanics, 2014]
In the comparison image between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells it highlights the specialised
structures of both cell types, the specialised cell structures allow cells to perform certain functions
needed in the organisms it contains. Prokaryotic cells contain flagella which eukaryotic cells do not
and eukaryotic cells have many important structures such as the nucleus or information processing
centre of the cell.
Eukaryotic cells have a defined nucleus and their cytoplasm contains specialized organelles bound to
the cell membrane whereas prokaryotic

Football Vs. American Football
Football and American football are two very popular sports. Football being the most popular sport and
played all over the world while American football being America s favorite sport it is almost solely
played in the United States. American football evolved in the United States, originating from Rugby
football.Today Professional and Collegiate American football are the most popular forms of the game.
Football dates back more than 2000 years in ancient China, but it was England that developed football
into the sport we know today. Football at the professional level is the most popular form of the game.
Football and American football are somewhat alike, sharing some similarities. However, you can
easily find differences between which is what makes them distinctive and enjoyable for their fans.
American football requires more players than Football. It is played with fifteen players on each team,
eight forwards, who mainly get possession of the ball, and Seven backs, who mostly carry and move
the ball. The six basic skills in American football are catching, running, blocking, tackling, and
kicking. American football players require tremendous strength and muscle, skills with hands, be able
to memorize the playbook during the game, be able to go extremely hard for minutes at a time.
American football is a brutal sport, they act as if they are crazy animals attacking their prey with no
mercy. Football is not ignorant like American football. Football requires

The Interpreter Of Maladies By Jhumpa Lahiri
In the Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri, the Das family has more power over Mr. Kapasi
because they are foreigners of higher standing than the native Mr. Kapasi. It is noted early in the story
that the Das family was not like the typical family, The first thing Mr. Kapasi had noticed when he
saw Mr. And Mrs. Das, standing with their children under the portico of the hotel, was that they were
very young, perhaps not even thirty, Lahiri wrote. The Das family is extremely young and seems to
not function properly. At the beginning of the story, Mr. and Mrs. Das argue about who should take
their daughter to the bathroom. Between the two parents, a mutual responsibility over the child should
have existed. This shows that the Das family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Arab could kill Daru, however Daru strategically prevents this from happening by treating the
Arab with kindness and respect. Daru s kindness is shown by his choice to treat the Arab like a man
instead of a prisoner. Daru eats his meals with the Arab, sleeps in the same room as the Arab, and
packs the Arab a snack for the remainder of his journey. Daru could have starved the Arab or made
him sleep in the shed, but he chooses to treat the Arab with kindness. Daru steps from his place of
power by being kind to the Arab out of fear of being killed by him, rather than genuine hospitality.
While walking to the jailhouse Daru points out two paths the Arab could take; one of the paths goes to
the jailhouse and the other goes to a village of nomads. Daru hands over his power to the Arab by
allowing him to choose his own destiny. Daru leaves the hill and the Arab, and occasionally looks
back to see if the Arab choose a path. Eventually, the Arab does not try to rise in power and follows
his instructions and goes to the jailhouse as

Burt s Bees Advertisement Analysis
Burt s Bees is known for its amazingly healing lip balm, however, it wasn t always this way. When
Burt s Bees was first established by Roxanne Quimby and Burt Shavitz it was a candle company.
Since then Burt s Bees has flourished and became a worldwide brand, including a multitude of health
and beauty products. To further understand the advertisement and everything that went into and still
goes into Burt s Bees we first need to look at the founders and how the brand was created. This is
because to this day the advertisement is linked to the founders of the brand and what kind of people
they are reflecting onto the brand they have established. As we dive further into the advertisement of
Burt s Bees you will discover the similarity between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this it is clear to see the improvement of the Burt s Bees commercials when there are two being
compared to one another. The first commercial is the Uncap Flavor: Fireworks commercial that
launched over two years ago. This commercial involves some new fun flavors of the Burt s Bees lip
balms. They display this by having black and white doodles in the beginning of the commercial then
an explosion of colors like fireworks when all the lip balms are shown. The second commercial is
their most recent, New Burt s Bees Lipstick Commercial. This commercial is displayed in a bright
green rainforest as the bold red lipstick slides down the wet leaves of the trees. This commercial also
has a very catchy love song in the background. When comparing the two commercials it is easy to see
the quality and attraction pull of the second commercial is greater than the first. The second
commercial stays true to the Burt s Bees natural, nature loving company while keeping an upbeat
positive vibe. Although the first commercial mentioned is also a positive one it is not as dramatic with
both contrasting colors as the first. I believe that Burt s Bees has stepped up their commercial game
and when I was looking for commercials to use in this essay Burt s Bees commercial song was the top
Google search about Burt s Bees that popped up. This shows that the advancement of using a catchy

Sense Of Sesponsibility And Sense And Sensibility
The most relatable novel to Austen s Pride and Prejudice is her earlier novel Sense and Sensibility
written in 1811. The largest comparisons that can be made are the function of screens that shelter, the
distinction of being sensible and having sensibility, as well as the necessity of wealth to determine
character.
According to Sally Palmer, Austen is using fire screens as a symbol for characters who are trying to
shield potentially heated emotional outburst or the intense heat of social discourse that would ruin
evanescent happiness. The two characters that symbolize this would be Mr. Darcy and Elinor
Dashwood of Sense and Sensibility. Darcy wants to protect all he cares about including Mr. Bingley,
his innocent sister Georgiana, and later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author Inger Sigrun Brodey, a reputable JASNA s North American Scholar who is a frequent
speaker at Jane Austen Society meetings, writes in the article Making sense of sensibility. from
Persuasions: The Jane Austen Journal that Marianne Dashwood symbolizes sensibility and her sister
Elinor represents common sense. Marianne shares many similarities with Lydia Bennet, the youngest
daughter in Pride and Prejudice. Both believe their world is naturally good without corruption such as
greed and lust to mar it. Both have foibles that strangers generally are naturally good. However, in
actuality there are very good actors that manipulate the vulnerable. Humans have a way of being
imminently selfish and Austen is depicting it with the characters such as the dastardly Mr. Wickham of
Pride and Prejudice and thoughtless Mr. Willoughby of Sense and Sensibility. Both men affect their
counterparts in a negative way and take advantage of the situation. This creates a bias of distrustful
feelings, that sympathy may be able to heal, but society might think is self absorption. Nonetheless,
pity is created for the poor creatures. In fact, it is sensibility or empathy that is necessary to have a
deeper connection like love or hate, and it is fear of rejection that may be the culprit of a hesitancy to
love. This relates to the larger picture of the transition between the Enlightenment and Romanticism,
sense contrasts sensibility because sense has logic and sensibility is fueled by emotional reactions

How Darwin Has A Profound Effect Beyond The World Of Science
Darwin once said we all come from monkeys, but not literally. This quote was said by Hal in the
Malcolm in the Middle episode, Flashback. This is one of many examples of how Darwin has had a
profound effect beyond the world of science. Through analysis of several elements of pop culture, one
can see how their underlying themes are related to Darwin. The impact of Darwin s principles can be
seen in video games, literature, and television.
The relevance of Darwin s work can be observed in video games. For example, Darwin s theory of
natural selection can be applied to the general gameplay of Pokémon FireRed. Darwin states that
individuals with variations best suited for the habitat survive and reproduce. The protagonist in the
games ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of move inheritance is similar to real life traits can be passed down. In a different example,
the Sonic franchise can be analyzed from the developer s point of view. The first Sonic the Hedgehog
game was created in 1991. It was well received because of its groundbreaking colors, as well as the
high speed nature of the game. The Sega company realized that Sonic appealed to a wide audience, so
naturally, future games are going to feature similar characteristics of the original Sonic game. This
concept is comparable to Darwin s idea that a species must survive to pass their traits to the next
generation (Darwin, Foundations 1). Sega essentially implements elements of the old Sonic games,
while at the same time adding new elements to improve the sequels. The theories of natural selection
and heredity provide for a scientific viewpoint of the Pokémon and Sonic franchises beyond the
entertainment.
Many literary works portray Darwinan principles. In Jeanne Duprau s The City of Ember, for instance,
a group of scientists known as The Builders create an underground city called Ember, which has a
generator and supplies for the citizens to survive at least 200 years. This city was intended to protect
its inhabitants from impending doom. About 240 years after the creation of this city, the supplies
become scarce, and the generator is decaying. It is up to the central characters, Lina and Doon to

Of Mice and Men Movie Review
Of Mice and Men captures the viewer s attention with a girl in a red dress (Moira Harris) running
through an open field, and our two main characters, George Milton (Gary Sinise) and Lennie Small
(John Malkovich), running from men on foot and horseback with rifles and dogs. It gives us an insight
on their personalities. It also shows us Lennie s strength and accidental violence
The cinematography is great, showing personal moments with close up shots, and less personal
moments with far out shots. When Lennie and George are hiding in the ditch there is a close up shot,
but when they are traveling to the ranch, there is a far away shot. This helps the reader understand the
tension of the scene and how personal it is. This effects the importance many scenes in the movie.
Gary Sinise, the director of the film, does a good job of portraying Salinas as an old Western town. He
also chooses to only show human violence, not animal violence, making this movie unique. He does
not show the killing of animals such as rats and dogs, but instead chooses to show when Lennie fights
Curley and when characters die. This is to show the importance of the human violence, opposed to the
less important animal violence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Malkovich does a great job of portraying Lennie, however, The Boss (Noble Willingham) is not
portrayed well, making him appear nicer than he was in the book. The plot of this movie is well

Plate Tectonics
pg. 1
Plate tectonics is the theory that has been studied for over thirty years that states that the outside layer
of Earth are actually large plates, approximately forty kilometers thick, that slide across the magma
beneath the exterior of the planet. The theory of plate tectonics explains the enormous amount of
volcanic and seismic activity surrounding certain areas of the world, stating that the sliding of these
plates either away from each other, sliding past each other, or sliding into each other and causing one
of the plates to slide beneath the other. When the plates slide away from each other, new ocean floor is
formed. When the plates slide past each other, minor earthquakes will occur. When the plates slide
toward each other and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The famous Canadian geologist, J. Tuzo Wilson, was the first to speculate why there was volcanic
activity in the middle of a tectonic plate in 1963. Wilson was the first to speculate about the hot spots,
or thermal plums. The theory of hot spots is supported by the Hawaiian islands which are located in
the middle of the Pacific Ocean plate, also known as the Ring Of Fire due to the increased volcanic
activity surrounding the plate. Because the plate has been shifting since the beginning of time, the
plate has gradually slid by the hot spot, slowly forming islands across the ocean. One of the earliest
islands, Kauai, has magma sediment from over 5.5 million years old, and the newest island, Loihi,
which is still submerged beneath the ocean and has yet to reach the surface but still is 8,000 feet tall
from the bottom of the ocean. The comparison of these islands shows the gradual movement of plates
above the hot spot due to the gradual aging of the sediment rock on the islands, gradually decreasing
in age starting with Kauai.
The difference between volcanoes formed through hot spots compared to those formed by submerging
tectonic plates is that the magma released in volcanoes from hot spots has different characteristics than
other volcanoes. For instance, the magma is released due to its ability to continually break through the
lithosphere, rather than being pressured by the sliding of the tectonic plates. Both types of volcanoes
are similar because of the fact that they both are temporary features on the planet due to the constant
motion of the plates and the cooling of the lithosphere beneath the tectonic

decreased fare rate, comfy journey experience, lower disruption probability due to bad weather, as
well as less fuel consumption resulting in a greener environment as compared to the air transportation

Providing an internet access to passengers with high quality of service (QoS) is a key role in attracting
more travellers [3]. Wireless communication systems to provide internet access for HSR are facing a
lot of challenges such as, time varying and frequency selective fading due to multipath propagation
and Doppler shift effect [4], a high penetration loss of 10 40 dB depending on the type of train and the
angle of incidence resulting in spotty coverage and dropped calls [5], frequent handover due to the
train high motion velocity will result in an increase in the drop off rates, degrading the overall system
throughput also group handover caused by the simultaneous handover where hundreds of devices in
the same train will request to handoff at the same time, causing a huge burden at the base station (BS)
in terms of processing and resources. Moreover, an HSR propagation channel includes multiple
terrains and scenarios such as urban, suburban, rural, plains, viaduct, tunnels, cuttings and stations [6],
this variety found to cause a deep fade so we need to be familiar with those propagation conditions

Stephanie Faleski Into The Deep Analysis
Into the Deep by Stephanie Faleski is a naturalistic, oil painting showcased in a simple black frame,
which measures roughly four feet in length and three feet in width. Its frame successfully manages to
serve as an outline for the work without serving as a distraction. On either side of the painting there
are two correspondingly painted ocean scenes. It depicts two sea turtles, each surrounded by a group
of several medium sized fish around them. Each of the fish, except for the one directly behind the
main turtle which is only half visible, have four fins in view, with their dorsal fins displaying a
separation above their gills. Altogether, there are three separate types of fish, with two of them both
displaying brown stripes, and all three of them are grey in color. The main thing that distinguishes the
different types of fish are their body structures. The fish along the bottom of the ocean are smaller and
oval in shape while the ones above the primary turtle are larger in size with tail fins that are arrow ...

By making the second turtle less detailed and colorful; along with making the background water and
fish less clear and murky in coloring, Faleski successfully instills an atmospheric perspective. Gentle
blueish white lines are used to separate the squares of the secondary turtle s stomach. Its skin color is a
blueish green hue that helps to further distinguish it from the primary turtle. The one visible eye of the
second turtle is colored completely black without a separation of the pupil and iris.
Looking at this painting instills in one a feeling of an almost serious sort of serenity. With the dark
blue in the background gives the work an almost mysterious undertone, possibly portraying how life
in the ocean is an unknown and often scary ordeal for the creatures that inhabit it. The viewer is struck
with a sense of awe at the simplicity of the overall

Similarities Between Sumerian And Akkadians
Akkadian and Sumerian Artistic Distinctions Ancient Mesopotamia housed its share of civilizations,
empires and city states. Two of those well known societies, the Sumerians and the Akkadians, fought
back and forth for control over Sumer, an area that is about the size of Northern Ireland ( The Rise of
Sumer and the Akkadian Empire ). Although both civilizations overlapped in place and time, both
contributed their own unique artistic and architectural achievements to what is known as Iraq, using
their own language that was not even distantly related to each other (Frankfort 83). Less than one
hundred years ago, it would have been difficult to compare these two civilizations had archeologists
and scholars not excavated Mesopotamia, looking for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Sumerians seemed to value the sensible and sturdy over the decorative, the Akkadians
romanticized their art much more. For example, Head of an Akkadian ruler, from Kuyunjik depicts
beautiful copper braiding of the hair, deep, intense eyes, chiseled beard and expression from a smooth
face and noble mouth (84). In contrast, a stone priest king from Uruk, Sumer, circa 3000 BC is much
smaller and simpler, emphasizing the animal like musculature as opposed to the strong facial features
and decorative hair that Akkadians depicted. Sumerians used limestone and alabaster to depict not
only people, but many animals. These seemed much more elaborate (although still very realistic, not
romanticized). A decorated ewer from Uruk, circa 3000 2900 BC displays this method with lions
standing guard at the spout of a decorated ewer s vessel ( The Rise of Sumer and the Akkadian Empire
). Although Akkadians used animals in their art and on buildings, the images are still much more
dramatic; an Akkadian seal impression, for instance, shows a hero throttling a lion (Frankfort 87).
Although the strength of both creatures is defined like Sumerian works, both are decked out in chains,
ribbons and

Essay Comparing Wagner And Kreisler
Though generations apart, Richard Wagner and Fritz Kreisler both display correlations not only in
musical presentation and development but also in the consistencies and adversities regarding their
lives. Despite their disparities, Wagner and Kreisler prove to have transformed music through their
innovations in their own compositions. Regarding their biography, Wagner and Fritz have paraded
their interests in music from an early age. Fritz Kreisler, born February 2, 1875, embodied the persona
of a true child prodigy starting at the age of 4 when he was given a violin and with no prior knowledge
of scales or notes he was able to play the Austrian National Anthem from start to finish perfectly. This
foreshadowed the coming of his career in music and from there he could only go up moving towards

For Kreisler, he married Harriet Lies Woers who was a divorced tobacco heiress that, coming from a

to be wife Cosima, she was already married to von Bulow whom she just bore three children with.
Unable to resist Wagner, Cosima divorced von Bulow and married Wagner the same year of 1870.
Lastly regarding their biography, both artists died from a case of heart failure. Suffering from cases
leading toward hearing loss and sight deterioration due to cataracts and his previous accidents
including his coma from getting stuck by a bus in New York, Kreisler passed away in 1962 from a
heart condition. As for Wagner he died on February 13, 1883 in Ca Vendramin Calergi due to heart

The United States Vs. The Federal Election Commission
One of the most controversial court cases that has pitted the main political forces against each other
this past decade has been the controversial Citizens United vs. the Federal Election Commission. The
background of the case, as taken from the website of the FEC states the following:
The Federal Election Campaign Act (the Act) prohibits corporations and labor unions from using their
general treasury funds to make electioneering communications or for speech that expressly advocates
the election or defeat of a federal candidate.
With the advent of this court decision, the Supreme Court of the United states found that Citizens
United fim degrading a political candidate (Hillary Clinton to be exact) through the process of
marketing and advertising a film was protected under the umbrella of the First Amendment guarding
political speech. Such monetization of the political process calls into question the strength of the
current democracy and the ounces of corruption that could soon turn into pounds. There are few nation
states that one could point to as being truly corruption free (Denmark hosts the most corruption free
gov t according to Transparency International s 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index). However, this is
a trait that holds back the growth of the whole of society, weakening the disadvantaged and
emboldening the powerful. As Transparency International goes on to state:

Car yard business: (1 paragraph)
Within Australia, majority of population will need vehicles as transportation. Therefore, many people
purchased cars from licensed car dealerships, private owner, online or at an auction. According to
Anglo (2013), most of the car dealership in Australia provides legal protection such applying warranty
for 3 months. In additional to this, many car dealerships has the accurate documents and history of
their vehicles, therefore it is far more reliable to purchase car from a car dealership. Recently, Rezek s
(2012) article states that over the past three to four years, the Australian used car businesses have
experienced vital changes with its trading trends. The price of a vehicle is to a large extent determined
by supply and demand. Whilst this information is true for the price of a vehicle, the profit of vehicles
is to some extent determined by the buying. With the arrival of private sellers, both buying and selling
has extremely become more challenging (Rezek, 2012). Many people believe that the internet has

But believe that we would somehow become a communist state over night. Somehow the liberties we
take for granted would become the reason people would fight for the wrongness of such violent
images. We should as a nation take responsibility for our actions and our children s actions. If we did
this there would be no need for the government to regulate our lives in such ways as banning the
things that allow for self expression. And even though violence may or may not touch our lives
sometimes daily there is no reason keep those that like the blood and guts from their idea a fun. If you
not portraying the serial killer you are watching or playing there is no need for my concern or the
government s regulation on such matters. In conclusion, I am against violent video games but I
understand the need for others to participate in such activities. I also understand that taking away such
rights to play these games would cause chain reaction of government control of not only what is
played but viewed and voiced. I believe if we are able to have full knowledge of the things we bring
home, and then maybe we wouldn t bring them home. But if we do then we are prepared for the
consequences. In being prepared we teach our children not only what is right and wrong, teaching to
them to be aware of what they are teaching themselves. If parents monitor what their children do,

Propaganda s Influence On Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon Bonaparte was the greatest eighteenth century French master of propaganda is beyond
dispute (ch. 2, p.1). Napoleon created for himself the image of the Revolutionary hero through
conscious manipulation of dispatches, correspondence, medallions, and especially, of the press (Intro,
p.2). Napoleon s strategic use of propaganda rocketed him by his growth in popular press. Napoleon
enlisted the help of propaganda to be a in a sense, his own squad of cheerleaders. Napoleon cleverly
marketed himself to showcase his superb abilities through art, bulletins, medallions, newspapers and
trinkets.
Remarkably, Bonaparte learned how important propaganda was very early during his political
ascension. He knew he needed a way to project himself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1). A type of propaganda used to persuade the masses was newspaper. Bonaparte had different
propaganda newspapers, journals, bulletins for different countries but yet all propaganda still
effectively praising and promoting Bonaparte. Propaganda for the Egyptian Army was Journal de
Malte, the Courier de l Egypte, and La Décade Égyptienne. Bonaparte began experimenting with a
new propaganda tool the Parisian Journal de Bonaparte et des hommes vertueux after he was captured.
The Journal was a blatant purpose the promotion of Napoleon Bonaparte but also because its title
could be seen as a challenge to the moral character of the government itself (ch. 3, p.2). Newspapers,
journals and bulletins were used for encouragement to Bonaparte s military but he also addressed them
to the public as well as naysayers. Another type of propaganda that Bonaparte used was Art. Early in
his career, for example, hye fostered relationships with several scholars and with artists who promoted
his reputation, not only as a victorious general but also as a man of culture and intellect (ch 4., p. 1).
Art propaganda was extremely influential in Bonaparte s reputation. In projecting himself in an
intellectual light, Bonaparte was able to win over leading intellectuals and influential political thinkers
of France known as the Ideologues (ch. 4,

Vestal Virgins In The Roman Pageants
It was a cold January night, a full moon hung in the night sky, uncovering what couldn t be hidden in
that illuminating light, shining so revealingly bright once a month. From the shadows came out 22
women, but when the moon captured them with its beams of light, their innocent faces now bore a
smile of vengeance. One by one, the moon revealed the fire in their eyes. All of them wore a white
woolen veil, and they walked as one. They circled two young men walking down the street, and forced
them to their knees. Two of the women glided towards the men, and each took out a blade that they
ignited using their eyes. They stabbed the two men with the burning blade, and sprinkled unusual
herbs on the wound. The other 20 creatures held hands completing the ritual, and disappearing into the
shadows; they all became stronger, as I felt a surge of weakness cover me, that still isn t gone, said
Vesta, the goddess of the hearth. These women are the 22 Vestal Virgins that were buried alive back in
the Roman Empire, and now they have risen from the underworld, and have murdered two innocent
people.
These people weren t just murdered, Minerva interjected, The Vestals were wearing white woolen
veils, and they sprinkled the herbs used for sacrifices.
This sacrifice happened on a full moon, which gave them power over the targeted victims. Diana

Statement: Even after the Cherokee people were seen as not a threat, adapted to the way of the settlers

Europeans treated Indians like savages. When Europeans discovered America they had a drive to
conquer land including the land the Natives lived on.(Layton 28) Coming from a more advanced
civilization in the Europeans eyes they thought they were better than the Natives and therefore wanted

villages and homes, the Cherokee were put in camps, where they had to wait for weeks before heading

Examples Of Trickery In Animal Farm
Propaganda: Simple Trickery or Self Deceiving?
Aesop, the great Greek storyteller, voices in one of his sayings that appearances are often deceiving.
Now, being that it is a common phrase, many think deeper into this idea. One may make it clear that
propaganda does not deceive people; it merely helps them to deceive themselves, as Eric Hoffer
voices, a now deceased American philosopher. If someone is using deceiving techniques to persuade
one to do something, the one being deceived is not being forced to do anything. Essentially, this
cannot be considered trickery if one is deceiving him or herself. In most cases, many regard these
techniques as propaganda. This is used several times in George Orwell s novel, Animal Farm, in
which pigs overtake a farm to get away from human control. Propaganda, as seen in Animal Farm, can
be used to trick a target audience into tricking themselves to believe what may not be the right choice.

Instead of scaring them into doing something that they do not want to, one can use persuasive
techniques. In most cases, forcefully making people do something will not ensure them to want to do
it again. They would feel pressured and feel like they have no say. Commercials, advertisements, and
even magicians try to convince an audience into trusting something. They all have something in
common, and that is that they use propaganda. However, the person or group that is persuading one to
do something actually allows the audience to trick their minds into believing what they see. When Eric
Hoffer proposed that propaganda makes people deceive themselves, he said this to warn people that
propaganda may be used around them but they would not know

Difference Between Gardner And Robert Sternberg
heory of Intelligence
Many psychologist believe there are multiple types of intelligence that determine your mental ability
and have been an important topic for many years. Many of these psychologist have argued with each
other on the multiple theories that the psychologist have developed, however there has been no clear
agreement of what actually makes up your IQ or how it can be measured. The most famous
psychologist that have developed theories of intelligence are Howard Gardner and Robert Sternberg,
out of these two theories I agree with Robert Sternberg intelligence theory the most.
Howard Gardner has came up with seven clear intelligences Visual Spatial, Bodily kinesthetic,
Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Linguistic, and Logical Mathematical that outline individual s
strengths and are designed based on different tasks, problem solving, and progress in various types of
domains. According to Gardner s theory we are all able to know the world through language, logical
mathematical analysis, spatial representation, musical thinking, the use of the body to solve problems
or to make things, an understanding of other individuals, and an understanding of ourselves (Lane , C.
(n.d.). Multiple Intelligences). Visual Spatial in Gardner s theory is when a person is taught how to
remember things through drawings and verbal and physical imagery. Bodily kinesthetic is used when a
person uses communication through there body language, like role playing, hands on learning,

Environmental Scanning And Key Risk Indicators
Indeed, there are multiple tools that can be utilized to determine organization risk, such as Risk
Analysis Questionnaire, Financial Statement Method, Flowchart Method, On Site Inspections,
Environmental Scanning, and Key Risk Indicators (Fraser Simkins, 2010). Ultimately, I chose to use
Environmental Scanning and Key Risk Indicators to assess The Kroger Company s risk.
Comparatively, each tool offers unique advantages and viewpoints of the organization s operations,
current risk, and perceived future risk.
So, why did I choose Environmental Scanning and Key Risk Indicators as the tools to identify risk
within Kroger? First, the decision had to made as to the type of risk to identify, such as environmental,
regulatory, political, or technological. Then, the determination was made as to who or what would be
impacted by the risk, so there were questions to be asked, such as:
What is the business risks within Kroger s market or industry?
What impact would be caused as a result of changes in market conditions, such fluctuations in prices,
interest rates, and exchange rates?
What would happen as a result of operational risks associated with internal system failures because of
mechanical problems or human errors?
What legal risks could occur from failure to meet contractual obligations? (Risk, 2009).
After determining the risk to be identified, I reviewed each tool to choose the one that best diagnosed
risk exposure. Thus, the Risk Analysis Questionnaire is a checklist

The Impact Of Religion On American History
Religion has come to become a very controlling aspect of people s lives throughout the world. The
very essence of having a faith background to rely on is very comforting for humankind. Since religion
has grown to be such a vital role in shaping people s views and decisions, religious conflict has also
sprouted up (Olmstead). It has also been the reason for many wars throughout history. Religion as a
source of ideal and morale has gone on for years. In this research paper, I will be investigating the
effect religion has played in American wars, specifically. Moreover, I will address the key aspects of
religion that can be seen to have influenced American history. The key tenets, which show why
religion has been at the forefront of American conflict, are the concepts of ideology, morale, and
democracy.
Ideology has started off when the first colonists came to America. This ideology has continued on for
years in the way American has dealt with issues such as war. But moreover, it has integrated with
religion to be a direct effect on wars we have been in. Morale has also been one of the central points of
why America has responded to so many religious conflicts in America the way they have. And lastly,
religion has been instrumental in imparting democracy through out America s history of wars.
American history, itself starts off with religion and faith. Many people forget that America was
founded on the basis of people trying to flee religious persecution in England. So,

Characterization Of Cin1
Given the conserved nature of intracellular trafficking, Cin1 appears to be unique to Cn, as a Cin1
homolog was not found in Sc nor Ca. Likewise, a Pan1 homologs was not found in Cn. However, by
reciprocal BLASTp search, several proteins with significant homologies to proteins participating in Sc
and Ca Pan1 pathways were identified {Wang, 2011 #5646}. Among them, an EH protein homologous
to Sc Ede1 was selected for further analysis as Sc Ede1 is one of the key partners of Pan1.
Characterization of the Cn Ede1 homolog and examination of its interaction with Cin1 will reveal
whether Cin1 mediates the only endocytic pathway or there are additional endocytic pathways in Cn.

Cn Ede1 is predicted to encode a 1593 AA protein with three N terminal EH domains and one C
terminal ubiquitin associated (UBA) domain. An ede1 mutant has been generated in preparation for
this proposal, and the initial examination indicated that the ede1 mutant has a defect in early
endocytosis while maintaining normal morphology (Fig. 4B), suggesting functional similarity to Sc
Ede1. A WT gene complemented strain (ede1 EDE1) will be generated and further phenotypic
characterization for growth, mating, endocytic transport, and virulence characteristics will be
performed. An ede1 cin1 double knockout mutant will also be generated through a second knockout
approach. The double mutant strain will be compared to single gene knockout strains if obtained. To
examine Cin1 and Ede1 interaction, a yeast two hybrid (Y2H) screen will be performed first, followed
by validation with co immunoprecipitation (IP). Here, only the fusion constructs specific to Ede1
homolog are needed, as the pGADT7 CIN1 fusion construct was constructed and used previously in
our lab {Shen, 2010 #5449; Shen, 2011 #5640; Shen, 2012 #5719}. These tests will help to determine

Critique I Polytechnique
Polytechnique is a dramatization of the Montreal Massacre in 1989, where 14 young women at l École
Polytechnique were murdered by a deranged misogynist. The film juggled through several time
periods, and emphasized the aftermath of the massacre on the people left behind. This event is
documented through the perspective of three characters: the shooter, Valérie, and Jean François. With
numerous positive reviews from film critics, Toronto Star states that Polytechnique is a tragic art that
not only shows and reveal, but it contemplates inspiration. It makes no judgment and offers no
panaceas. (Howell). In addition, The Hollywood Reporter favorably said that it is as much a memorial

This film shows thousands people being impacted by the shooting, such as all the on site students at l
École Polytechnique, the victims, and their families. Through the shooter s action and hatred on
feminism, it also reveals a bigger story of violence against women (Villeneuve). This shows that
students can skillfully analyze the event by seeing its historical significance to Canadian history. In
addition, Polytechnique reveals insightful aftereffects of the main characters. Subsequent to the
massacre, Valérie constantly had nightmares, and she resourced herself with smoking. She wrote a
mock letter to the shooter s parents, explaining her sufferings and scars. Jean François also committed
suicide as he repeatedly blamed himself for abandoning his female classmates (Villeneuve). This too
demonstrates that students will be able to depict the variety of outcomes that resulted from this mass
murder. Accordingly, Polytechnique is a good movie to watch as it allows students to relate to

campus tour and instantly felt at home since it is a small college in a small town. The environment felt
warm as well because there were places where students go to relax on campus and to talk about their
problems. Although I did not visit Cornell, I knew I would not enjoy the more stressful environment.
The only positive aspect of studying at Cornell is the label. Employers think highly of a graduate from
an ivy league and are more likely to be hired because of its highly selective acceptance rate and

Baking Soda Experiment
Rockets Powered by Baking Soda and Vinegar
Introduction:
A chemical change can be caused by combining two compounds, such as baking soda (NaHCO3) and
vinegar (CH3COOH). The change that is taking place is because of the chemical property of
reactivity. When these two compounds react CO2 is produced. In this experiment we wanted to see
how much baking soda, added to 10mL of vinegar, would cause a film canister rocket to shoot the
farthest. I predicted that 10mL of baking soda would shoot the farthest because it would be equal to
the amount of vinegar in the canister. The independent variable in this experiment was the amount of
baking soda and the dependent variable was how far the lid would shoot.
Materials:
Paper towel
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Film canister
Goggles (eye protection)
Measuring tools
Methods:
1. Measure and cut 9 pieces of paper towel 10cm x 12cm

Summary Of Paul Revere s Ride
On the Historical Integrity of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow s Paul Revere s Ride In history, many
feats are told time and time again and become more grandeur with each utterance, to the point where
nearly all original meaning is long lost. As Doctor Manhattan said it in Watchmen, The illusion
vanishes, almost before it has registered (Gibbons and Moore 26). For example, with Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow s poem, Paul Revere s Ride, this certainly is the case. To suggest that the
aforementioned poem is a work of historical non fiction is a suggestion that can be simply and
eloquently discredited using real documents, the face value of the piece, and simple logic. To begin,
Longfellow s poem simply is not a credible source of historical information, as there are real letters
from the night of Paul Revere s ride that contain the true sequence of events. In a letter to Jeremy
Belknap; for instance, Paul Revere summarizes his actions over the course of the night. In reality, Paul
Revere s ride was slower paced and far more suspenseful. The poem makes no mention of the British
officers that threaten to blow Revere s brains out (Gilder Lehrman). In the letter, there are many more
comrades along on the journey, whereas the poem suggest that Revere was a lone rider, storming into
each town to alert the people at full gallop. As a result, it is ridiculous to even pose the question of the
historical integrity of Longfellow s poem when the first relevant source of information

Examples Of Knights In Beowulf And Sir Gawain And The...
Based on the literature that we have read and the films that we have seen in the past, knights are
depicted as these honorable, noble heroes. They follow a strict set of rules, going to extreme lengths to
uphold their knightly name. Interestingly enough, the knights in Monty Python and the Holy Grail
seem to understand their chivalrous ideals and aspirations, yet never seem to be able to fulfill it. Due
to the knights in the movie never achieving their honorable goals, we are able to get a good laugh out
of their mistakes. In Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight , knights are characterized as
warriors, vigilant protectors, ready to face their worst fears; meanwhile, in Monty Python and the
Holy Grail, their knights seem to have never faced any kind of danger in all their lives. For instance,
in Beowulf, a brave, young knight protected his king against a great evil, a dragon ruthlessly
protecting its gold, never once considering abandoning him. In example, the dragon was a terrifying
obstacle, eagerly awaiting their fight to the death. While many of Beowulf s knights fled, one brave
man, Wiglaf, stayed behind to help his king acquire the treasure he was so adamantly fighting for. This
young man, though presented with the overbearing curse of death, persevered in the honor of his
name. Wiglaf was the honest version of a knight; loyal, brave, heroic. He did everything in his power
to help his king, refusing to ever flee, regardless if it could cause him to pay the

Essay about Ford Pinto
Ford Pinto Case
The humankind history has probably never known one completely successful product a product that
would never break down or malfunction. The ideal product is a myth because in reality, there has been
and always will be mistakes and flaws in the technology and production. When there are only a small
percentage of defective pieces, it is easy to blame the individual product. It is when there is repetitive
malfunction of the same system under the same conditions that people begin to ask the question.
(Birch, et. al. 21) Who is at fault? Is it the production line error? Is it the engineer who designed it, or
the person who developed the process? Ford Pinto is one of the examples of such repeated
malfunction of a product, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of such a rush in development, as well as such a strict limitation in weigh and cost, the
technology was substantially modified and the sequence of the events in the development cycle was
altered as well.
As per Dowie, in the normal development cycle of 43 months, the tooling which takes longest time to
accomplish of about 18 months, takes place when all other processes like design, styling, product
planning, advanced engineering, etc. have been finalized and approved. (3) Since there were only 25
month allocated to come with a model of Ford Pinto, tooling was going in parallel with the product
development. Another important aspect, as Dowie points out, was competition over trunk space which
dictated engineers to avoid designing a gas tank that would substantially reduce the trunk space.
Therefore, the designers decided not to use the Ford s patented safe saddle type tank which would be
positioned over the rear axle, but place the gas tank between a weak bumper and a rear axle. (4)
When crush tests revealed that the weakest part of Ford Pinto was the gas tank that would be
punctured by the bolts on the rear axle during the rear impact crash, there was no time to change the
tooling. Another obstacle for Ford Pinto s safety was negative position of the General Manager, Lee
Iacocca, on importance of the safety. He was known for saying . ..safety doesn t sell (Dowie, 5) and
that only meaning of that phrase was that he did not

Historical Development Of Urban Development
Introduction In the context of urban history, infrastructure can make or break a community. In the
United States, the historical development of urban infrastructure has both formed and followed the
inscriptions of race, class, and gender on the urban landscape. Ample in more affluent communities,
usually absent or minimal in historic concentrations of urban poverty, infrastructure does not serve its
public equally. Some cities have a more equitable distribution of infrastructure than others, but many
urban neighborhoods remain woefully underserved, (Avila 4 5). My hometown of Tolleson, Arizona is
a small city of six thousand, five hundred residents with a predominantly Mexican population, with
nearly 78% of the residents declaring themselves as Mexican in the 2010 census. The focus of my
research will be on the power of Latinx representation Latinx majority cities governments, using
Tolleson as a special case study, whose city council is majority Mexican. Tolleson has been making
great strides to fix up the town and provide more jobs and opportunities to its residents, and in doing
so, the city has asserted itself as a major example for its innovation and strengthening infrastructure.
For example, Tolleson was the only city in Arizona to not lay off employees during the 2008 Great
Recession, and the Paseo de Luces (Path of Lights), which was created by Mayor Adolfo F. Gámez,
who also fought to keep highways such as the Interstate 10 and South Mountain Freeway from

Changes In America s Social Environment
During the era from the end of Reconstruction through 1900, the development of American cities
radically altered the nation s social environment and problems. A vast majority of Americans relocated
from rural areas to the city in pursuit of new economic opportunity and the promise of a more exciting
life. The rapid development of an urban society transformed America. How people lived, what and
how they ate, and how they took care of their health all changed. In spite of the period s adherence to
the beliefs of Social Darwinism, increasing numbers of Americans in fields that varied from religion
and economics to politics, literature, and the law proposed the need for reforms.
Millions of immigrants came to the United States in search of better ... Show more content on

Calling for government action to help farmers and labourers, The People s, or Populist, Party was
formed in 1981. The Populist s were able to convince many Democrats and Republicans to support
their reforms and grew a very large following.
Reformers successfully elected numerous people to congress who supported their views and even won
control of many city and some state governments. They also elected many people to Congress who
favoured their views. In addition, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson,
the first three presidents elected after 1900, supported certain reform laws.
By 1920, more Americans lived in cities than rural areas and almost half of the population were
descendents of immigrants that came to America during the end of the American Revolution. This
created a diverse society of ethnic and racial groups that varied in class standing. The beginning
efforts of reform derived from tension created by industrialization and urbanization social changes.
Today, The World Bank estimates that the rural population is only 15% in the United

Problem Every year the preschool team and I struggle to find the best way to teach writing. Year after
year, Kindergarten teachers in our district report that the incoming students need higher level writing
skills. They believe that having these skills promote higher scores on the Kindergarten Readiness
Assessment for Literacy (KRA L), which is taken before officially starting Kindergarten. According to
the Office of Early Learning and School Readiness, Children are prepared for the kindergarten literacy
expectations as measured by the KRA L when the early learning experiences designed for preschool
children are aligned with and supportive of Ohio s Early Learning Content Standards and when
progress is monitored using other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our goal as a preschool team is to find an effective approach to preschool writing or a better way of
thinking about the writing process. By providing effective writing opportunities at the preschool level,
our students will become better readers, listeners, and writers. Input Although No Child Left Behind
(NCLB) has focused attention on improving reading and math achievement, little attention has been
given to other subjects including writing. If state or local policies do not support the teaching of
writing, there is a possibility that teachers will neglect writing instruction (McCarthey, 2008). Within
the past few years, my district adopted the STORYtown curriculum for reading and writing as a plan
to improve student literacy scores district wide. Many teachers in my district admitted that since they
struggle with finding time and an effective way of teaching writing, it is often overlooked. Learning to
write is developmentally important for nurturing literate children. To resolve this issue, teachers are
now raising questions about which methods are the best for the learners of today and where to begin
this process. Research cannot identify one single approach to writing instruction that will

  • 2. The Negative Effects Of Animal Testing Animal testing has been around since 500 BC starting with dissecting animals in ancient greece. French animal testers believed that animals were automata and could not feel pain or emotions. There was no public objections to animal testing until the 19th century when there was an increase of adopting domestic pets. Nowadays public opinion is split down the middle on whether or not animals should be tested on. The animals are generally tested on for cosmetics, health, commercial, biomedical, space and military purposes. People for animal testing think of it as a way to save human and animal lives, and that there is no other way to get this good of data. They also believe that the strict rules prevent any mistreatment of the animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With only using petri dishes scientists are not able to find all the affects, for example loss in eyesight can not be tested with only using it on tissue sample(Kara Rogers). Animal testing benefits the animals themselves too. The American Veterinary Medical Association actually supports animal testing, in many cases the tests on animals have saved many species from becoming extinct like the california condor, and the tamarins(American Association). People opposed to animal testing will say that it is inhumane and cruel. Animals in the tests are said to be force feed, and forced inhalation, they also are forced to have cosmetics dropped into their eyes to see the outcome. The US Department of agriculture said that around 97,123 animals in 2010 suffered during testing, and were not given antithetic. We can now test in other ways that do not include animals, like in vitro testing. We can also use human volunteers, and only use enough that it does not severely damage them. There are also computer simulations that will show how it affects the body. Drugs that pass animal testing are not necessarily safe, like in the 1950 s a sleeping pill was shown to cause birth defects even though it had been tested by animals. Although the opposing side has many intriguing arguments, animal testing is still the most plausible way to better the general health of the population. In order to better the conditions of the ... Investigating The Correlation Between Surface Area And Volume AIM To investigate the relationships between the shape of an object and the time taken for a substance to diffuse into its center and to investigate the correlation between surface area and volume in regards to cellular transport. BACKGROUND THEORY / INTRODUCTION Cells are the basic unit of life of which all living organisms are built upon, they are the smallest living organizational unit and they all come from pre existing cells which has been supported by several scientists in the formation of cell theory [Biological physics, 2013]. The structure of a cell is strongly correlated with its function and the way it acts in relation to other cells and biological processes such as diffusion. Cells are specialized for many different purposes and their structures reflect these functions. Every living organism can be classified into two different cell groups; eukaryote cells and prokaryote cells. Image 1 [Biochemanics, 2014] In the comparison image between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells it highlights the specialised structures of both cell types, the specialised cell structures allow cells to perform certain functions needed in the organisms it contains. Prokaryotic cells contain flagella which eukaryotic cells do not and eukaryotic cells have many important structures such as the nucleus or information processing centre of the cell. Eukaryotic cells have a defined nucleus and their cytoplasm contains specialized organelles bound to the cell membrane whereas prokaryotic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Interpreter Of Maladies By Jhumpa Lahiri In the Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri, the Das family has more power over Mr. Kapasi because they are foreigners of higher standing than the native Mr. Kapasi. It is noted early in the story that the Das family was not like the typical family, The first thing Mr. Kapasi had noticed when he saw Mr. And Mrs. Das, standing with their children under the portico of the hotel, was that they were very young, perhaps not even thirty, Lahiri wrote. The Das family is extremely young and seems to not function properly. At the beginning of the story, Mr. and Mrs. Das argue about who should take their daughter to the bathroom. Daru s kindness is shown by his choice to treat the Arab like a man instead of a prisoner. Daru could have starved the Arab or made him sleep in the shed, but he chooses to treat the Arab with kindness. Daru steps from his place of power by being kind to the Arab out of fear of being killed by him, rather than genuine hospitality. While walking to the jailhouse Daru points out two paths the Arab could take; one of the paths goes to the jailhouse and the other goes to a village of nomads. Daru hands over his power to the Arab by allowing him to choose his own destiny. Daru leaves the hill and the Arab, and occasionally looks back to see if the Arab choose a path. When Burt s Bees was first established by Roxanne Quimby and Burt Shavitz it was a candle company. Since then Burt s Bees has flourished and became a worldwide brand, including a multitude of health and beauty products. To further understand the advertisement and everything that went into and still goes into Burt s Bees we first need to look at the founders and how the brand was created. For this it is clear to see the improvement of the Burt s Bees commercials when there are two being compared to one another. The first commercial is the Uncap Flavor: Fireworks commercial that launched over two years ago. This commercial involves some new fun flavors of the Burt s Bees lip balms. They display this by having black and white doodles in the beginning of the commercial then an explosion of colors like fireworks when all the lip balms are shown. The second commercial is their most recent, New Burt s Bees Lipstick Commercial. This commercial is displayed in a bright green rainforest as the bold red lipstick slides down the wet leaves of the trees. This commercial also has a very catchy love song in the background. When comparing the two commercials it is easy to see the quality and attraction pull of the second commercial is greater than the first. The second commercial stays true to the Burt s Bees natural, nature loving company while keeping an upbeat positive vibe. Although the first commercial mentioned is also a positive one it is not as dramatic with both contrasting colors as the first. I believe that Burt s Bees has stepped up their commercial game and when I was looking for commercials to use in this essay Burt s Bees commercial song was the top Google search about Burt s Bees that popped up. • 7. Sense Of Sesponsibility And Sense And Sensibility The most relatable novel to Austen s Pride and Prejudice is her earlier novel Sense and Sensibility written in 1811. The largest comparisons that can be made are the function of screens that shelter, the distinction of being sensible and having sensibility, as well as the necessity of wealth to determine character. According to Sally Palmer, Austen is using fire screens as a symbol for characters who are trying to shield potentially heated emotional outburst or the intense heat of social discourse that would ruin evanescent happiness. The two characters that symbolize this would be Mr. Darcy and Elinor Dashwood of Sense and Sensibility. Darcy wants to protect all he cares about including Mr. Bingley, his innocent sister Georgiana, and later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author Inger Sigrun Brodey, a reputable JASNA s North American Scholar who is a frequent speaker at Jane Austen Society meetings, writes in the article Making sense of sensibility. from Persuasions: The Jane Austen Journal that Marianne Dashwood symbolizes sensibility and her sister Elinor represents common sense. Marianne shares many similarities with Lydia Bennet, the youngest daughter in Pride and Prejudice. Both believe their world is naturally good without corruption such as greed and lust to mar it. Both have foibles that strangers generally are naturally good. However, in actuality there are very good actors that manipulate the vulnerable. Humans have a way of being imminently selfish and Austen is depicting it with the characters such as the dastardly Mr. Wickham of Pride and Prejudice and thoughtless Mr. Willoughby of Sense and Sensibility. Both men affect their counterparts in a negative way and take advantage of the situation. This creates a bias of distrustful feelings, that sympathy may be able to heal, but society might think is self absorption. Nonetheless, pity is created for the poor creatures. In fact, it is sensibility or empathy that is necessary to have a deeper connection like love or hate, and it is fear of rejection that may be the culprit of a hesitancy to love. This relates to the larger picture of the transition between the Enlightenment and Romanticism, sense contrasts sensibility because sense has logic and sensibility is fueled by emotional reactions ... • 8. How Darwin Has A Profound Effect Beyond The World Of Science Darwin once said we all come from monkeys, but not literally. This quote was said by Hal in the Malcolm in the Middle episode, Flashback. This is one of many examples of how Darwin has had a profound effect beyond the world of science. Through analysis of several elements of pop culture, one can see how their underlying themes are related to Darwin. The impact of Darwin s principles can be seen in video games, literature, and television. The relevance of Darwin s work can be observed in video games. For example, Darwin s theory of natural selection can be applied to the general gameplay of Pokémon FireRed. Darwin states that individuals with variations best suited for the habitat survive and reproduce. The protagonist in the games ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of move inheritance is similar to real life traits can be passed down. In a different example, the Sonic franchise can be analyzed from the developer s point of view. The first Sonic the Hedgehog game was created in 1991. It was well received because of its groundbreaking colors, as well as the high speed nature of the game. The Sega company realized that Sonic appealed to a wide audience, so naturally, future games are going to feature similar characteristics of the original Sonic game. This concept is comparable to Darwin s idea that a species must survive to pass their traits to the next generation (Darwin, Foundations 1). Sega essentially implements elements of the old Sonic games, while at the same time adding new elements to improve the sequels. The theories of natural selection and heredity provide for a scientific viewpoint of the Pokémon and Sonic franchises beyond the entertainment. Many literary works portray Darwinan principles. In Jeanne Duprau s The City of Ember, for instance, a group of scientists known as The Builders create an underground city called Ember, which has a generator and supplies for the citizens to survive at least 200 years. Of Mice And Men Movie Review Essay We ll live off the fatta the lan ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Of Mice and Men Movie Review Of Mice and Men captures the viewer s attention with a girl in a red dress (Moira Harris) running through an open field, and our two main characters, George Milton (Gary Sinise) and Lennie Small (John Malkovich), running from men on foot and horseback with rifles and dogs. It gives us an insight on their personalities. It also shows us Lennie s strength and accidental violence The cinematography is great, showing personal moments with close up shots, and less personal moments with far out shots. When Lennie and George are hiding in the ditch there is a close up shot, but when they are traveling to the ranch, there is a far away shot. This helps the reader understand the tension of the scene and how personal it is. This effects the importance many scenes in the movie. Gary Sinise, the director of the film, does a good job of portraying Salinas as an old Western town. He also chooses to only show human violence, not animal violence, making this movie unique. Plate Tectonics pg. 1 Plate tectonics is the theory that has been studied for over thirty years that states that the outside layer of Earth are actually large plates, approximately forty kilometers thick, that slide across the magma beneath the exterior of the planet. The theory of plate tectonics explains the enormous amount of volcanic and seismic activity surrounding certain areas of the world, stating that the sliding of these plates either away from each other, sliding past each other, or sliding into each other and causing one of the plates to slide beneath the other. When the plates slide away from each other, new ocean floor is formed. When the plates slide past each other, minor earthquakes will occur. When the plates slide toward each other and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The famous Canadian geologist, J. Tuzo Wilson, was the first to speculate why there was volcanic activity in the middle of a tectonic plate in 1963. Wilson was the first to speculate about the hot spots, or thermal plums. The theory of hot spots is supported by the Hawaiian islands which are located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean plate, also known as the Ring Of Fire due to the increased volcanic activity surrounding the plate. Because the plate has been shifting since the beginning of time, the plate has gradually slid by the hot spot, slowly forming islands across the ocean. One of the earliest islands, Kauai, has magma sediment from over 5.5 million years old, and the newest island, Loihi, which is still submerged beneath the ocean and has yet to reach the surface but still is 8,000 feet tall from the bottom of the ocean. The comparison of these islands shows the gradual movement of plates above the hot spot due to the gradual aging of the sediment rock on the islands, gradually decreasing in age starting with Kauai. The difference between volcanoes formed through hot spots compared to those formed by submerging tectonic plates is that the magma released in volcanoes from hot spots has different characteristics than other volcanoes. For instance, the magma is released due to its ability to continually break through the lithosphere, rather than being pressured by the sliding of the tectonic plates. Both types of volcanoes are similar because of the fact that they both are temporary features on the planet due to the constant motion of the plates and the cooling of the lithosphere beneath the tectonic ... Its frame successfully manages to serve as an outline for the work without serving as a distraction. On either side of the painting there are two correspondingly painted ocean scenes. It depicts two sea turtles, each surrounded by a group of several medium sized fish around them. Each of the fish, except for the one directly behind the main turtle which is only half visible, have four fins in view, with their dorsal fins displaying a separation above their gills. Altogether, there are three separate types of fish, with two of them both displaying brown stripes, and all three of them are grey in color. Although both civilizations overlapped in place and time, both contributed their own unique artistic and architectural achievements to what is known as Iraq, using their own language that was not even distantly related to each other (Frankfort 83). In contrast, a stone priest king from Uruk, Sumer, circa 3000 BC is much smaller and simpler, emphasizing the animal like musculature as opposed to the strong facial features and decorative hair that Akkadians depicted. Sumerians used limestone and alabaster to depict not only people, but many animals. These seemed much more elaborate (although still very realistic, not romanticized). A decorated ewer from Uruk, circa 3000 2900 BC displays this method with lions standing guard at the spout of a decorated ewer s vessel ( The Rise of Sumer and the Akkadian Empire ). With the advent of this court decision, the Supreme Court of the United states found that Citizens United fim degrading a political candidate (Hillary Clinton to be exact) through the process of marketing and advertising a film was protected under the umbrella of the First Amendment guarding political speech. Vestal Virgins In The Roman Pageants It was a cold January night, a full moon hung in the night sky, uncovering what couldn t be hidden in that illuminating light, shining so revealingly bright once a month. From the shadows came out 22 women, but when the moon captured them with its beams of light, their innocent faces now bore a smile of vengeance. One by one, the moon revealed the fire in their eyes. All of them wore a white woolen veil, and they walked as one. They circled two young men walking down the street, and forced them to their knees. Two of the women glided towards the men, and each took out a blade that they ignited using their eyes. They stabbed the two men with the burning blade, and sprinkled unusual herbs on the wound. • 23. Examples Of Trickery In Animal Farm Propaganda: Simple Trickery or Self Deceiving? Aesop, the great Greek storyteller, voices in one of his sayings that appearances are often deceiving. Now, being that it is a common phrase, many think deeper into this idea. One may make it clear that propaganda does not deceive people; it merely helps them to deceive themselves, as Eric Hoffer voices, a now deceased American philosopher. If someone is using deceiving techniques to persuade one to do something, the one being deceived is not being forced to do anything. Essentially, this cannot be considered trickery if one is deceiving him or herself. In most cases, many regard these techniques as propaganda. This is used several times in George Orwell s novel, Animal Farm, in which pigs overtake a farm to get away from human control. Many of these psychologist have argued with each other on the multiple theories that the psychologist have developed, however there has been no clear agreement of what actually makes up your IQ or how it can be measured. The most famous psychologist that have developed theories of intelligence are Howard Gardner and Robert Sternberg, out of these two theories I agree with Robert Sternberg intelligence theory the most. Howard Gardner has came up with seven clear intelligences Visual Spatial, Bodily kinesthetic, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Linguistic, and Logical Mathematical that outline individual s strengths and are designed based on different tasks, problem solving, and progress in various types of domains. According to Gardner s theory we are all able to know the world through language, logical mathematical analysis, spatial representation, musical thinking, the use of the body to solve problems or to make things, an understanding of other individuals, and an understanding of ourselves (Lane , C. (n.d.). Multiple Intelligences). Visual Spatial in Gardner s theory is when a person is taught how to remember things through drawings and verbal and physical imagery. Ultimately, I chose to use Environmental Scanning and Key Risk Indicators to assess The Kroger Company s risk. Comparatively, each tool offers unique advantages and viewpoints of the organization s operations, current risk, and perceived future risk. So, why did I choose Environmental Scanning and Key Risk Indicators as the tools to identify risk within Kroger? First, the decision had to made as to the type of risk to identify, such as environmental, regulatory, political, or technological. Then, the determination was made as to who or what would be impacted by the risk, so there were questions to be asked, such as: What is the business risks within Kroger s market or industry? What impact would be caused as a result of changes in market conditions, such fluctuations in prices, interest rates, and exchange rates? What would happen as a result of operational risks associated with internal system failures because of mechanical problems or human errors? What legal risks could occur from failure to meet contractual obligations? (Risk, 2009). The very essence of having a faith background to rely on is very comforting for humankind. Since religion has grown to be such a vital role in shaping people s views and decisions, religious conflict has also sprouted up (Olmstead). It has also been the reason for many wars throughout history. Religion as a source of ideal and morale has gone on for years. In this research paper, I will be investigating the effect religion has played in American wars, specifically. Moreover, I will address the key aspects of religion that can be seen to have influenced American history. The key tenets, which show why religion has been at the forefront of American conflict, are the concepts of ideology, morale, and democracy. Ideology has started off when the first colonists came to America. This ideology has continued on for years in the way American has dealt with issues such as war. But moreover, it has integrated with religion to be a direct effect on wars we have been in. Morale has also been one of the central points of why America has responded to so many religious conflicts in America the way they have. And lastly, religion has been instrumental in imparting democracy through out America s history of wars. American history, itself starts off with religion and faith. Summary Of Paul Revere s Ride On the Historical Integrity of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow s Paul Revere s Ride In history, many feats are told time and time again and become more grandeur with each utterance, to the point where nearly all original meaning is long lost. As Doctor Manhattan said it in Watchmen, The illusion vanishes, almost before it has registered (Gibbons and Moore 26). For example, with Henry Wadsworth Longfellow s poem, Paul Revere s Ride, this certainly is the case. To suggest that the aforementioned poem is a work of historical non fiction is a suggestion that can be simply and eloquently discredited using real documents, the face value of the piece, and simple logic. To begin, Longfellow s poem simply is not a credible source of historical information, as there are real letters from the night of Paul Revere s ride that contain the true sequence of events. In a letter to Jeremy Belknap; for instance, Paul Revere summarizes his actions over the course of the night. In reality, Paul Revere s ride was slower paced and far more suspenseful. The poem makes no mention of the British officers that threaten to blow Revere s brains out (Gilder Lehrman). In the letter, there are many more comrades along on the journey, whereas the poem suggest that Revere was a lone rider, storming into each town to alert the people at full gallop. As a result, it is ridiculous to even pose the question of the historical integrity of Longfellow s poem when the first relevant source of information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Examples Of Knights In Beowulf And Sir Gawain And The... Based on the literature that we have read and the films that we have seen in the past, knights are depicted as these honorable, noble heroes. They follow a strict set of rules, going to extreme lengths to uphold their knightly name. Interestingly enough, the knights in Monty Python and the Holy Grail seem to understand their chivalrous ideals and aspirations, yet never seem to be able to fulfill it. Due to the knights in the movie never achieving their honorable goals, we are able to get a good laugh out of their mistakes. In Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight , knights are characterized as warriors, vigilant protectors, ready to face their worst fears; meanwhile, in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, their knights seem to have never faced any kind of danger in all their lives. For instance, in Beowulf, a brave, young knight protected his king against a great evil, a dragon ruthlessly protecting its gold, never once considering abandoning him. In example, the dragon was a terrifying obstacle, eagerly awaiting their fight to the death. While many of Beowulf s knights fled, one brave man, Wiglaf, stayed behind to help his king acquire the treasure he was so adamantly fighting for. This young man, though presented with the overbearing curse of death, persevered in the honor of his name. Wiglaf was the honest version of a knight; loyal, brave, heroic. He did everything in his power to help his king, refusing to ever flee, regardless if it could cause him to pay the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Essay about Ford Pinto Ford Pinto Case The humankind history has probably never known one completely successful product a product that would never break down or malfunction. The ideal product is a myth because in reality, there has been and always will be mistakes and flaws in the technology and production. When there are only a small percentage of defective pieces, it is easy to blame the individual product. It is when there is repetitive malfunction of the same system under the same conditions that people begin to ask the question. (Birch, et. al. 21) Who is at fault? Is it the production line error? Is it the engineer who designed it, or the person who developed the process? Ford Pinto is one of the examples of such repeated malfunction of a product, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of such a rush in development, as well as such a strict limitation in weigh and cost, the technology was substantially modified and the sequence of the events in the development cycle was altered as well. As per Dowie, in the normal development cycle of 43 months, the tooling which takes longest time to accomplish of about 18 months, takes place when all other processes like design, styling, product planning, advanced engineering, etc. have been finalized and approved. (3) Since there were only 25 month allocated to come with a model of Ford Pinto, tooling was going in parallel with the product development. Another important aspect, as Dowie points out, was competition over trunk space which dictated engineers to avoid designing a gas tank that would substantially reduce the trunk space. Therefore, the designers decided not to use the Ford s patented safe saddle type tank which would be positioned over the rear axle, but place the gas tank between a weak bumper and a rear axle. (4) When crush tests revealed that the weakest part of Ford Pinto was the gas tank that would be punctured by the bolts on the rear axle during the rear impact crash, there was no time to change the tooling. Another obstacle for Ford Pinto s safety was negative position of the General Manager, Lee Iacocca, on importance of the safety. He was known for saying . ..safety doesn t sell (Dowie, 5) and that only meaning of that phrase was that he did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Historical Development Of Urban Development Introduction In the context of urban history, infrastructure can make or break a community. In the United States, the historical development of urban infrastructure has both formed and followed the inscriptions of race, class, and gender on the urban landscape. Ample in more affluent communities, usually absent or minimal in historic concentrations of urban poverty, infrastructure does not serve its public equally. Some cities have a more equitable distribution of infrastructure than others, but many urban neighborhoods remain woefully underserved, (Avila 4 5). My hometown of Tolleson, Arizona is a small city of six thousand, five hundred residents with a predominantly Mexican population, with nearly 78% of the residents declaring themselves as Mexican in the 2010 census. The focus of my research will be on the power of Latinx representation Latinx majority cities governments, using Tolleson as a special case study, whose city council is majority Mexican. Tolleson has been making great strides to fix up the town and provide more jobs and opportunities to its residents, and in doing so, the city has asserted itself as a major example for its innovation and strengthening infrastructure. For example, Tolleson was the only city in Arizona to not lay off employees during the 2008 Great Recession, and the Paseo de Luces (Path of Lights), which was created by Mayor Adolfo F. Gámez, who also fought to keep highways such as the Interstate 10 and South Mountain Freeway from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Changes In America s Social Environment During the era from the end of Reconstruction through 1900, the development of American cities radically altered the nation s social environment and problems. A vast majority of Americans relocated from rural areas to the city in pursuit of new economic opportunity and the promise of a more exciting life. The rapid development of an urban society transformed America. How people lived, what and how they ate, and how they took care of their health all changed. In spite of the period s adherence to the beliefs of Social Darwinism, increasing numbers of Americans in fields that varied from religion and economics to politics, literature, and the law proposed the need for reforms. Millions of immigrants came to the United States in search of better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calling for government action to help farmers and labourers, The People s, or Populist, Party was formed in 1981. The Populist s were able to convince many Democrats and Republicans to support their reforms and grew a very large following. Reformers successfully elected numerous people to congress who supported their views and even won control of many city and some state governments. They also elected many people to Congress who favoured their views. In addition, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson, the first three presidents elected after 1900, supported certain reform laws. By 1920, more Americans lived in cities than rural areas and almost half of the population were descendents of immigrants that came to America during the end of the American Revolution. This created a diverse society of ethnic and racial groups that varied in class standing. The beginning efforts of reform derived from tension created by industrialization and urbanization social changes. • 46. Essay about Expanding Writing Instruction to Support... Problem Every year the preschool team and I struggle to find the best way to teach writing. Year after year, Kindergarten teachers in our district report that the incoming students need higher level writing skills. They believe that having these skills promote higher scores on the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment for Literacy (KRA L), which is taken before officially starting Kindergarten. According to the Office of Early Learning and School Readiness, Children are prepared for the kindergarten literacy expectations as measured by the KRA L when the early learning experiences designed for preschool children are aligned with and supportive of Ohio s Early Learning Content Standards and when progress is monitored using other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our goal as a preschool team is to find an effective approach to preschool writing or a better way of thinking about the writing process. By providing effective writing opportunities at the preschool level, our students will become better readers, listeners, and writers. Input Although No Child Left Behind (NCLB) has focused attention on improving reading and math achievement, little attention has been given to other subjects including writing. If state or local policies do not support the teaching of writing, there is a possibility that teachers will neglect writing instruction (McCarthey, 2008). Within the past few years, my district adopted the STORYtown curriculum for reading and writing as a plan to improve student literacy scores district wide. Many teachers in my district admitted that since they struggle with finding time and an effective way of teaching writing, it is often overlooked. Learning to write is developmentally important for nurturing literate children. To resolve this issue, teachers are now raising questions about which methods are the best for the learners of today and where to begin this process. Research cannot identify one single approach to writing instruction that will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
