European American Exploration
European Exploration The fifteenth and sixteenth centuries were a period of exploration and
expansion for the powerful european monarchies, this change and the reasons for it affected
european and american society s. A nation had to be well established and strong before it could
explore and expand outward, this means that the europeans had to make changes themselves.
Many christian european orders wanted to spread the christian religion to the native americans of
the new world and also made some money from the towns they established. The Europeans were
also in search of resources and a way to make their native currencies, many times the native
americans were affected in the process. European nations had to be established and strong before
they could partake in exploration and expansion. The Portuguese first to explore and expand did it
because they were an established and strong power opposed to other divided countries such as
France and Spain. For example Italian city states contributed lots of... Show more content on

For example Encomienda was a social system where the spanish conquerors would use the
native indians as laborers but were provided with food and wages. Most of the time this was
ignored and they just used them as a slave force that was starved and riddled with many of the
european diseases. This forced labor, starvation and disease killed lots of the native indians. To
conclude expansion was possible when a nation became strong and established. Then when they
did finally expand the christian religion also came too and it was used as a way to control the
indians. The native americans were also used as slave laborers that worked in poor conditions and
many of them died because of it.The europeans expanded and became more powerful at the

Clark Kent, Kal-El, Man Of Steel, And Man
Clark Kent, Kal El, Man of Steel, and Man of Tomorrow are all the names for the one and only
Superman. Superman is known for his powers, his kindness, and being the last Kryptonian from
the planet Krypton. First reason Superman is the best is because he stands for what every human
should be Within in all of us there is a great person, Supermanis what people call perfect, but he is
far from it he makes mistakes but the difference between most superheros and him is that he owns
up to it and learns from it. He strives to be better to get people to realize yes, he is from out of this

America was built on immigration and Superman is one of the most known immigrants, but like
other immigrants he is often criticized for not being born here. The Third reason unlike most
superheroes he spends every day saving the world but also helps it without even fighting.
Superman helps rescue cats from trees or while he is Clark Kent he shows people how corrupt
the government is he helps protect the citizens from big businesses. Superman is often called a
Boy Scout because he does the right thing no matter what although he makes mistakes he works
hard to try and make up for them. Superman was named that because of him being Super , but
people often forget the second part of his name Man he was raised and taught like us the only
difference is he wants to protect us he was not born here like every other superhero. He is from a
different planet if he wants he can hide and do nothing yet he protects us because he believes that
every human has the potential to be great so he fights with us instead of against us. Superman is nt

Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease Essay
CJD: OUTLINE/ROUGH DRAFT/INFORMATION
The purpose of this term paper is to review the literature regarding Creutzfeld Jacob Disease. The
goal is to examine the information as it relates to homeostasis in human body systems.
NAME: CREUTZFELDT JAKOB DISEASE (KROYTZ felt YAH kub) (CJD), originally
discovered in 1920 by Hans Gerhard Creutzfeld and Alfons Maria Jacob, is also known by several
other names: transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE); acquired (vCJD or iCJD) ; sporadic
(sCJD); familial (fCJD); Jacob Creutzfeldt disease; Mad Cow Disease, or bovine spongiform
encephalopathy (BSE). (pg. 369 Biology). To allay confusion, the disease will be referred to as
classic Creutzfeld Jacob Disease (CJD) unless otherwise noted.
(CAUSE of DISEASE) Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD) is a very rare disorder that damages the
tissues of the brain, causing a rapid decline in mental function and muscle coordination, eventually
leading to death. (Human Illnesses).
There are three types of CJD, all with different causes: Sporadic CJD, Familial CJD and Acquired
or Iatrogenic CJD.
пЃ¬Sporadic CJD (sCJD) Cause is unknown
пЃ¬Familial CJD (fCJD) Inheritance of a parent s dominant gene that underwent genetic mutation

cannibalistic practice of eating a deceased person s brain; the brain was evidently infected with
prions. (pg. 371 1st В¶ Biology). The cannibalism was part of a funeral rite. Women and children
were expected to consume a part of the brain and spinal cord, whereas men and boys were more
likely to consume muscular flesh. Hence, there were more cases of CJD within the female

Native And Invasive Species Comparison Essay
I am going to be finding the differences in Native and Invasive grasses, along with following
information about the species. Native grasses are the dominant plants in the vast rangeland plant
communities and are important in the understory of many forested areas. Fibrous roots of grasses
hold the soil in place and build up soilfertility. Invasive plants are plants which grow quickly and
aggressively, spreading and displacing other plants. Invasive plants are usually introduced by people
either accidentally or on purpose, into a region far from their native habitat. In recent years interest
in the use of a number of native grasses has increased. Species of interest include switchgrass
(Panicum virgatum), indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans), eastern gamagrass (Tripsacum dactyloides),
big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii), and little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium). Native grasses
mix beautifully with wildflowers in both natural and formal... Show more content on

However, we find that Centaurea diffusa, a noxious weed in North America, has much stronger
negative effects on grass species from North America than on closely related grass species from
communities to which Centaurea is native. Centaurea s advantage against North American species
appears to be due to differences in the effects of its root exudates and how these root exudates
affect competition for resources. Our results may help to explain why some exotic species so
successfully invade natural plant communities. Negative impacts of invasive plants on natives have
been well documented, but much less is known about whether invasive plants can cause population
level declines. We used demographic models to investigate the effects of two invasive grasses on
the demography and population growth of Anemone patens, a long lived native perennial of North

Information Management
Johannessen and Olsen (2010) noted with this economic landscape, knowledge itself became a
factor of production specifically, knowledge related to identifying and exploiting new ways to
establish temporary competitive advantage (p. 502). Their observation reflects that under today s
business environment, the ability to optimize information is a significant factor that enables such
companies to succeed their businesses. However, the use of information is more important than just
limited in business practices, also for everyone living and other professional arenas (Badke, 2009;

The customer centric strategy also affected such companies to shift themselves from close to open
in the form of connect and develop with the external stakeholders for creating values to their
products and services (Chesbrough, 2003, as cited in Johannessen Olsen, 2010). The connect and
develop model change such companies in these areas of doing business, such as individualized
immediate feedback, a new organizational logic, and new cooperation structure that influence by
information (Johannessen Olsen, 2010). The three areas affected by the use of external information
stated previously affect such a company to make change responding to the new strategy
(Johannessen Olsen, 2010). For instance, to perform individualized immediate feedback, a
company needs employees who have abilities to analyze and evaluate feedback information.
Employees as a frontline in the business operation whose roles are receiving, delivering, and
responding feedbacks to both internal and external stakeholders, such as managers, management
teams, customers, suppliers, and so on. The management teams would use feedback information
from the frontline to make changes as organizational logic appropriately to the business model

A Brief Note On Pain And Lie Within Connective Tissues Or...
Hyperalgesic spots that refer to pain and lie within connective tissues or muscles are known as
trigger points (Wittink Michel, 2002). Trigger points are typically found at the bony attachments
and are more common within the muscles of the neck, shoulder and the pelvic girdle. Myofascial
trigger points are commonly found in patients with musculoskeletal pain(Kalichman Vulfsons,
2010). They signify the distribution of sarcoplasmic reticulum of the musclefibres (Bron
Domerholt, 2012). Cummings White (2001) have defined Myofascial trigger points as pain arising
from one or more myofascial trigger points (MTrPs), which are hyperirritable spots in skeletal

The motor endplate noise is a distinctive characteristic of trigger points and indicates how irregular
motor end plates achieve. Motor end plate noise is from low amplitude discharges (10 50 UV)
within the taut band, whether or not the trigger points square measure is painful or not. Intermittent
high amplitude discharges (up to five hundred UV) square measure are seen in painful trigger
points (Simons et al., 2002).
Manual techniques such as active and passive are two treatments that aid the process in releasing a
trigger point (Wai Leung, 2010). The simplest variability of active release is stretching. Slow
sustained stretches are more effective at releasing trigger point tightness than fast transient
stretches, this is often a result of the sarcomeres as it takes time to be released, as a result of the
stickiness of its molecules. However, as soon as the muscle relaxes, the sarcomere incorporates a
tendency to return to its previous state (Chesterton, 2007). A series of contract relax is more
practical in re setting the length. The patient stretches the muscles to increase and extend the
sarcomeres, then actively contracts the antagonist muscles to take up the slack. This additionally
brings about reciprocal inhibition therapy, that facilitates the release of the muscle being elongated
(Wai Leung, 2010).

The Influence Of Past American Women Writers
The Influence of Past American Women Writers Amy Tan, Julia Ward Howe, and Judith Sargent
Murray are some of the noble women whom have helped shape the lives of their fellow gender
with the talents of their writing. Much of their writing became increasingly influential years after
it was written. Their literature allows today s modern readers to reflect on the humanity and the
treatment of women, understand history s past, and use it as an example to continue spreading
the vision of the equality of women today. Tan was known for her willingness to stand up for
herself against her mother, in pursuits to find her own dreams versus those of what her mother
had laid out for her (Showalter, Ch. Amy Tan ). Howe was a poet, and founder of the nation s
Battle Hymn of the Republic , she was known for her activism of women s rights, abolition, and
world peace (Showalter, Ch. Julia Ward Howe ). Lastly, Murray was known as the first womanof
American letters, speaking for women s rights after the American Revolutionary War (Showalter,
Ch. Judith Sargent Murray ). Tan, Howe, and Murray have proved to be influential not only in
America s historic past, but inspiration leading to today and the future as well. These women are
excellent examples to learn from in taking ownership of their women s rights and the equalities we
shall have, in our still unequal world. Amy Tan was born in Oakland, California. Both of her
parents were Chinese immigrants ( Amy Tan Biography Academy of

Public Service Announcement Analysis
Starting a new school year as a tenth grader, I thought there wouldn t be any big changes but
there was, and there is. My classes became slightly more difficult than they were last year, as a
freshman. Which made it more challenging to keep up with all the class work, tests, quizzes,
and homework. Although, most of the assignments assigned became a bit effortless, of course
effort is needed but it s just so simple to do. All of my classes balance between those two, being
challenging at times but also being simple. I, like every other student was enrolled into a World
History class. In History class, we were assigned a Public Service Announcement(PSA) just
recently. In History class, we were able to choose our groups in which we would work on the PSA
together.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We then had to find a primary source ourselves from Modern Times about Transportation. After
that was complete, our second task was to create and design a storyboard for our actual PSA. My
group and I went with a simple task of just drawing out the pictures we had in mind and putting
captions on them. In our storyboard we presented steam trains, steam boats from the Industrial
Revolution and how the invention of the steam engine bettered but also damaged the world. We
then showed cruise ships, trains from modern times. We showed that for modern times trains are
used for going to point A to point B, and boats for example a cruise ship is for luxury. All in all,
this bettered transportation for the future. As time passes, transportation gets better and better.
Since the Industrial Revolution the problem with transportation hasn t changed, it s altered a bit but
it s still the same problem. That is problem is pollution. For example, cars, they run on gasoline and
they produce and release exhaust which pollutes the air. Polluting the air only harms us, so

Homeless Youth Problem
Imagine being 16 and men bedroom being a sleeping bag under a bridge or a cot in an overfilled
shelter. Sadly that is a reality a lot of youth face. Homelessness is a huge problem alone, but
having so many young people on the streets is even worse. To solve this problem we must first
understand how young people are put in this position, how many young people are homeless,
and what being in this position does to them. The first step to fixing this issue is figuring out
who is in this position and why. Approximately 34% of the country s homeless population are
under the age of 24, why are these people homeless? Most youths become homeless because they
are running away from something. About 79% of homeless youth were being physically abused at
home and 39% were sexually abused. Youth identifying as members of the LGBT community
make up about 40% of the homeless youth population. Being homeless is not a choice these
young people (ranging from 12 24) have made. Sometimes it isn t even abuse or a lack of
acceptance that forces them into this life of poverty, in some case their families could not
financially support them and the rest of the family and they leave as to not burden them. Now, we
know who is homeless and why, we now need to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

beautiful spot on the Cam next to the Mill Pond. The river throws a loop that meanders through
the grounds forming two small islands that can be booked for social functions by members in the
warmer weather. For a small fee, students can join the Darwin punt club gaining access to the
college s five punts and several kayaks throughout the year. This compact site is an attractive 5

postgraduate students only, and was established in 1964 by three of the ancient colleges, Trinity, St
John s and Gonville and Caius. It was named after the Darwin family, who previously owned the
original property. Adjoining buildings and additional nearby hostels were added, as and when the
opportunities presented themselves. The Rayne Foundation, along with the founding trio, funded
conversions, extensions and general work to turn the site into a fully functioning college. The

The Importance Of Essential For Healthy Family Functioning...
According to Professor Rick Peterson, there are five essential roles essential to healthy family
functioning, they include providing resources, support and nurturing, development of life skills
(especially for young children), maintenance and management of the family system, and sexual
gratification between spouses. (Peterson and Green) In this section we re going to look at how
these are incorporated into the familys instrumental functioning and their expressive functioning.
Instrumental Functioning As stated earlier in the paper, this family is very set in old traditions.

kids, cleans the house, takes care of the dog, and makes sure the household runs smoothly. They

Since the kids don t go to daycare, EM has to make sure that they have some interaction

and having EM cook everyone breakfast. She packs a lunch for RM and he grabs it before
heading out the door. Once the kids are done eating, EM starts cleaning the house and EJM and

Malmar McKnight’s The Storm Essay
Malmar McKnight s The Storm
Malmar McKnight s frightening story, The Storm , weaves a violent storm and murder together to
heighten the horrific fears that engulf Janet Willsom. The Storm is a combination of Mother
Nature, Janet s emotions, and her heartbreaking dilemmas. The eerie mood is revealed throughout
the story. Figurative language helps the reader bring the story to life in his/ her mind. The author s
use of irony is devolved through Janet s changed perception of the storm.
Throughout the story, the mood becomes more suspenseful. As Janet walks out of the strong spring
storm and enters her cold damp house, she is overcome by feelings of isolation and loneliness. Her
husband is not there; there are dead plants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also thinks that she sees a face in the window. As she enters the damp, musty, ill lit cellaryou
can feel the suspense building. Malmar continues to use these types of images up to the conclusion
of the story.
The author uses a lot of figurative language throughout the story. The forceful wind is compared to
a dog shaking a rat between its teeth. As Janet tried to calm herself, the idea that a dead woman
was in the basement of her house began to beat at her like a flail. The idea that she was frozen
with freight was illustrated by her body being like a drawn bow. Examples of more figurative
language can be found throughout the text.
The most obvious idea of irony is the storm itself. In the beginning of the story, Janet felt the
storm was scary and her house and husband were the only areas of safety. She had confined herself
to one area of the house and snuggled in her husband s coat to keep the storm from surrounding her.
At the end when her husband frightened her, Janet no longer felt safe at home or with her husband.
So she ran out into the raging storm for protection from within. It is ironic that the storm in the
beginning was her greatest fear and in the end, it became her greatest ally.
The author s frightening story, The Storm has all the expected things that a good scary story should
have. It has a story line that gains suspense throughout the story, there is irony, and there is lots of

3.1 PESTEL Analysis The PESTEL analysis can be used to analysis the market environment in
which HTC operates in, they include: Political Factors and Legal Factors * Due to the high tech
nature of the industry, products from various companies are heavily patented and since similar
technology is used between manufacturers, infringement of these patents can lead to very costly
lawsuits against the company. * In 2008 as well 2010, lawsuits were filed against HTC by
companies such as Apple and IPCom claiming that HTC infringed upon their patents and
demanded compensation such as to prevent the company from exporting their products into
certain countries (Datamonitor, 2011). * Possible infringement of intellectual property in the
future which if proven would result in large compensation in money as well as damaging the
brand image. Economic Factors * Since the company operates on the global scale and since
most of their revenue comes from international markets, HTC would be positively or negative
affected by fluctuation in the exchange rates. * Due to high operating expenses overseas, such as
high cost of labour and taxation, HTC s operating margins have dropped from 19.9% in 2008 to
15.8% in 2010. However, these margins are considered low when compared to their competitors
(Datamonitor, 2011). Social Factors * According to several report, the demand of smartphone have

The Music Industry Became Aware Of Napster After John...
In June of 1999 Shawn Fanning, John Fanning, and Sean Parker created an independent peer to
peer file sharing website called Napster, Named after John Fanning s high school nickname. A
peer to peer (P2P) service allows access to media files like movies, music, books and games by
using a certain program that connects to other computers on the same network, meaning that when
someone downloaded a file it was coming directly from another person s computer. The website
was specifically designed to transfer MP3 files with a search engine dedicated to retrieving MP3
files only, and a chat service which allowed users to communicate with each other while using this
system (Tyson). At its prime, Napsterwas home to about 80 million users (Gowan). The issue with
Napster was that it wasn t properly licensed to distribute the files and it allowed its users
unlimited free access to other individual s intellectual property without their consent. The music
industry became aware of Napster when the heavy metal band, Metallica discovered that an
unreleased version of one of their songs was circling the internet. Metallica sued Napster,
providing evidence that over 300 thousand people had exchanged their work without the approval
of the band or the record label, and that Napster contributed to their infringements (Vaver). Napster
s main defense against the lawsuit was the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992. What this law

Telemachus As A Hero
A hero can be defined in many different ways, such as a man or woman who performs tasks
otherwise not able to be performed by a normal human being. Telemachus is a different breed of
hero compared to our modern day Superman and Batman. Telemachus, the son of a king, is often
seen by the public. Being the son of a king has its benefits and its downfalls, he must be a person
that the public can look to for solutions while his father is gone, but he also has power that others

with these scoundrels.
The last part of Telemachus s initiation is when he steps foot on the ship and sets sail. This is a
huge leap into manhood because he is taking the initiative to find his dad. Once he has gotten on
the ship, he is in charge of the ship. It is similar to being in charge of a small kingdom on the sea.
There are only twenty men that make up the crew, but that is twenty people s lives that are in his

point forward there would be no turning back. He was then officially on his own.

Le Moulin De La Galette
Le Moulin de la Galette was painted in France by Vincent Van Gogh in 1887. This particular
iteration of Le Moulin de la Galette is just one of many in a series done by Van Gogh. This piece
depicts a beautiful scene of Montmartre in Paris. The background of this work appears to be a
deep blue Paris sky during the day. However, what immediately allures the viewer s eye is the
Moulin de Blute Fin, which is a large decommissioned windmill located in the upper center right
portion of the canvas. Anterior to the Moulin de Blute Fin is a mixture of fences gardens, sheds,
and shacks scattered about the hill.
In addition to the Moulin de Blute Fin, a much smaller windmill, the Moulin Г Poivre, can be
found on the left side of the canvas. If one close enough they will also notice a man standing near
the frontmost fence. One wouldn t be able to tell what exactly that man is doing, but while
observing the painting in person, it is clear that he is painting. The bottom half of the portrait is
filled entirely green grass, dainty bushes, yellow flowers, and other foliage. Finally, towards the
very bottom of the canvas the blades of grass and flowers appear much more detailed than those
above it. Their thick and deliberate brushstrokes allow them to appear much closer to the viewer
than the rest of the shrubbery.
Vincent van Gogh was born in Groot Zundert, Netherlands on March 30, 1853. Van Gogh s love,
knowledge, and understanding of art can best be credited to his uncle. His uncle, who

Childhood Development And Parental Drug Use Essay
I.Introduction
Parenting is the ultimate long term investment and it can be one of the most rewarding jobs. It
starts with talking, reading, and nurturing infants which leads to clear values in adolescents.
Parents have an enormous influence over their children s development and although kids come
with their own temperaments, it is ultimately the parents job to provide an interface with the
world to help the child prepare for complete independence in a rapidly changing world. Parents
play the lead supporting role in their children s learning and development and influence a child s
well being. But what happens when a child s parents are not actively involved in their lives and
abuse drugs? This study asks: Is there is a link between early stages of childhood development and
parental drug use?
II.Literature Review
The United States Department of Justice National Drug Intelligence Center (2011) states that drugs
change brains and this may lead to addiction so it is imperative that prevention starts in reducing
these risks early . The most critical time drug abuse increases in adults is during times of
transition such as a divorce or loss of a job. In early adolescence, social and academic challenges
allow for greater exposure in the school environment. High school welcomes greater availability of
drugs and at the same time normal behaviors such as the desire to try new things or take greater
risks, may increase teen tendencies to experiment. Using abusable substances

The Trope Of The Manic Pixie Dream Girl
Directed by Cameron Crowe, the movie Elizabethtown inaccurately portrays the female
character Claire Colburn as a less important self sufficient, intelligent woman and more like an
alluring, fictitious figure sent like a guardian angel to help a troubled man, Drew Baylor the
main character, embrace life s route 60B fork in the road journey. Men are perceptibly inspired
by free spirited women, but it just doesn t make sense that this character played by Kirsten Dunst
as quirky and lovable as she is, could exist solely to save Orlando Bloom from completing his final
dark plan. The trope of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl (MPDG) is a fundamentally sexist one, a
coined phrase by Nathan Rabin in his 2005 review of Elizabethtown, to describe the cheerful,

National Churchill Museum Analysis
The National Churchill Museum is located in Fulton, Missouri at Westminster College where
Winston Churchill held his Iron Curtain speech in the gym of the college. It was very interesting
to learn that because of the gym s historical significance, it has not been remodeled or touched
structurally so that it would preserve the history of the place of the speech. Westminster holds a
beauty in itself, but the history of the college opens up a whole new meaning and feeling when
visiting. Not only does the college offer the exciting experience to learn about Winston Churchill
and his Iron Curtain Speech, but it also entails a part of the Berlin Wall and the Church of St. Mary
which has significance among its own walls. The museum and the college visit was an
unforgettable experience and a chance to truly relive history in modern day.... Show more content on

How Does Human Stasis Affect Human Space Travel
Research Question: How will human stasis affect human space travel? Mars is there, waiting to
be reached. This is a quote by Buzz Aldrin, an astronaut on Apollo 11 along with Neil Armstrong,
that explains a global interest with the unknown and especially humans traveling to outer space,
more specifically: Mars. But the same question is asked over and over again by scientist all over
the world: How do we get there ? This question has been mainly contemplated since 1969 and
even sooner for some groups. Most of the ideas brought to the national aerospace agencies are
related to building a better space ship or stronger engines. But the achilles heel of all of these
plans are the same two things, cost and efficiency. Currently, sending four people to Mars is an
estimated at six billion U.S Dollars which many countries are not willing or able to spend. This
estimate is also conservative assuming everything is on time, budget, and in good working order.
Human stasis in no way is a mean of transportation, but instead a cost efficient way astronauts.

A couple examples of unnecessary crew accommodation are food gallies, exercise equipment,
and entertainment. The reason why food gallies are dispensable is because of TPN. The
astronauts no longer need a food galley to go to cook their food on a stove and wash their dishes
in the dishwasher, or other appliances in a normal food galley. They also don t need the food
galley as a place to eat their food because all of their food is injected in their veins, skipping the
usual process of eating and digestion. They also do not need exercise equipment, that takes up lots
of room in modern spaceships. These are not needed because all of the humans are in stasis, unable
to move. Another example is entertainment. Entertainment is a major consideration when making a

Abstract Human population over the past decades, have doubled, tripled and grown rapidly, thereby

The theory has explained human population evolution relatively well in Europe and other highly
developed countries. Many developing countries have moved into stage 3. The major exceptions
are poor countries, mainly in sub Saharan Africa (Nigeria, Benin, Mali, Niger amongst others) and
some Middle Eastern[ 9] countries, which are poor or affected by government policy or civil strife,
notably Pakistan[ 10], Palestinian Territories[ 11], Yemen[ 12] and Afghanistan[ 13].

Origins of Demographic Transition Theory
The idea of DTT was first advanced by Warren Thompson[ 15] in 1929. He divided the world into
three major groups:
В·Countries with rapidly declining birth and death rates, with fertility declining more rapidly than
mortality, resulting in a declining growth rate (Northern[ 16] and Western Europe[ 17], North
America[ 18] and Australasia[ 19])
В·Countries with declining birth and death rates in certain socio economic strata, with the rate of
decline of the death rate higher than the decline in the birth rate (Central and Southern Europe)
В·Countries with high birth rates but declining death rates (rest of the world)
Frank W. Notestein[ 20] developed this theory in 1945 and suggested that there was a relationship
between population change and industrial development. He suggested that with time, countries go
through a linear evolution from traditional,

Trift Store Analysis
Most thrift stores have a sameness to them: they sell used clothing, furniture, books and kitchen
items and the like. Workers you meet in these shops are generally volunteers and very nice, and
the stores most often raise funds supporting not for profit organizations. This would be your
typical thrift store in the Phoenix market. However, there is a store which offers something

The Power Of The Athenian Constitution
The general public did not create, We, the people , but by 50 or so white men who owned
property. The Athenian democracy followed a similar rule; to be on the Athenian senate, one had
to be a male who owned property and was not a slave. This trend has been seen throughout the
western world in establishing democracies; the hegemonic power controls the laws of the state. But
now, with technology, we are able to empower the disenfranchised and have a more equal
representation. And with more holistic and comprehensive laws due to having a more equal
representation of the people, which may create less corruption.
The more a government appears to be transparent, the more legitimate they seem to their citizens.
Having a more transparent government, according to Rose Ackerman, should reduce corruption.
Technology is becoming a commonplace tool to create transparency within the government.
Governments are starting to use Crowd sourcing as a technological tool to increase transparency.
Crowd sourcing may become the trend of the future to fight corruption within the United States

Hard To Pay For College Essay
Nowadays it s hard to get a degree and even harder to pay for. In the article How to Pay for
College , it says that with hard work students can earn scholarships, apply for financial aid,
finance loans, and take on a part time job to pay for college. However, there is plenty of evidence
proving otherwise. Due to the rising costs of tuition and the restrictions to getting financial aid, it is
almost impossible for lower and middle class citizens to afford college. Loans leave students in debt
and scholarships are not always a sure thing. With a part time job, putting in too many hours of
work can interfere with ones sleep and actual study time. Recently a study was done on the
average college students ability to pay for college with a part time job. Randy Olsen, a computer
science graduate research assisstant at Michigan State University, crunched the numbers for both
Michigan State and all public universities in the U.S. The average tuition cost at an in state
public university is $8,709 not including room and board, books and supplies, personal care, and
transportaton fees. Research shows that the amount of hours needed to work to pay for college
tuition with a part time minimum wage job has more than tripled since the year 1979. It is now a
lot harder to work your way through college than it was 37 years ago. Many people in America

The Great Gatsby (2013) Film Review The 2013 movie adaptation of The Great Gatsby certainly
steps out of the cozy boundaries of the novella of less than two hundred pages by F. Scott
Fitzegerald with its gaudy attitude and fast paced scenes that at the same time is quite picturesque
and full of details reproduced to match the prose that has been written. Some lovers of the classic
might be horrified at the big top esque film that Baz Luhrmann has made it into, for this director is

This is a very unique way of upholding Nick s narration as it parallels the problems that
Fitzgerald himself went through, but it makes a contrast between the Nick we see on screen
and the one we read about. The fact that he is in a clinic is absurd on its own, implying that he
was much more submissive and vulnerable to the unruliness of the city that he had left behind
than Fitzgerald had let on, completely incapable of moving on from the past (which sounds just
like another character that he was very closely associated with, does it not?); this messes with
things a bit, for there is not any room for two tragic heroes, both with a fatal imperfection in this
storyline. Along with that flaw, he is maladroit, easily becoming an innocent child looking at the
world for the very first time in the awkward embodiment of Maguire, and it comes as a surprise
that his jaw does not drop as he looks around with youthful fascination; he just does not give Nick
the sense of capability and maturity in his performance as our inert, yet open minded storyteller
needs. Daisy Buchanan is yet another victim of an unfortunate miscast as she is depicted by Carey
Mulligan, who does not quite enact the innocent cruelty of a young woman who still has the mind
of a teenage girl and still believes that was allowed to reach out for what she wanted without
consequence. While she is supposed to be

Seane Corn s Proposal
Brief Review
Seane Corn s podcast was two fold: educational and invigorating. Hearing her talk about her
journey to happiness is a true testimonial to naysayers who are having doubts about the positive
effects of yoga. Corn s journey to happiness, as she conveyed, was not an easy one. She had to
clamber her way from an unsettled place as a child growing up in unstable home. She explained
how her blue collar working class parents raised her in an environment where religious practices
were not present and how, as a little girl, she thought of herself as uneducated. She abused drugs
and the tender age of 19 was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. She even suffered
from an anxiety disorder but these dark episodes of her life eventually led to healing and happiness
once she discovered yoga.
Body Prayer
One of the big ideas in the Corne s narrative that would be a foreign concept to many is Body
Prayer through yoga. In a nutshell, Corne s says one can use positions of one s body as a way as an
actively pray for others. For example, positioning your hands in an upward position during
meditations could be a form of sending prayers God in the heavens. As I reflect on body prayer, I
feel it would not be wise to guide school age children in body prayer but for me personally, I can
see how impactful it could be in my life. I am a spiritual person who believes in the power prayer.

Summer Reflection Essay
Reflective Essay Draft It was the summer time in Akron, Ohio 2007 to be exact. The sun was
relentlessly hot like it should have been, and the ice cream trucks were driving through the
neighborhoods consistently. I just moved to a new neighborhood and life was different for me.
With no friends nearby at all I had zero things to do by myself. I ve never been able to swim, so
swimming pools will not be mentioned in this story. The only upside of the summer was playing
with my brother Carl that summer. My brother Carl was twenty years old, five more than me,

Choosing The Brain
The world is filled with disease, impacting much of humanity. While there have been a lot of
studies centered upon physical health, within the last two decades much of the research has
narrowed its focus on how exercise impacts the body s overall health, especially the brain. This
paper confirms that exercise can have a transforming effect on the brain, which, in turn, can have a
positive effect on overall health, especially in the areas of stressand aging.
Choosing the Book
In perusing the options available for this course s book review, I choose SPARK: THE
REVOLUTIONARY NEW SCIENCE OF EXERCISE AND THE BRAIN by John J. Ratey, MD,
with Eric Hagerman. The relationship between exercise and the brain was a topic that intrigued me

brain with slower neuron cell reproduction, and the immune system then becomes seriously
inactive (p. 66). They included in the book the real life example of Dr. Bob Pyle, who had stress
induced disseminated sacoidosis, a disease which had no cure at the time (Ratey Hagerman,
2008, p. 80). In very poor health, Pyle, turned to the exercise of consistent running and

experienced vast improvement in his disease over the course of time, an occurrence that shocked
his physician (Hatey Hagerman, 2008, p. 81). This story motivated me to want to consistently
incorporate regular exercise into my own life in hopes of reducing stress, and, thereby, lowering
my risk of disease.
Aging
With aging come numerous changes within the human body. Yet as a nurse, I see more of the
devastating effects that aging has on the brain. Patients can have perfectly strong bodies yet be
incapacitated with cognitive decline. Ratey and Hagerman (2008) discussed an interesting study
using mice that had been genetically modified to be more likely to develop Alzheimer s

House Music Research Paper
House music is a genre of electronic dance music that begun in Chicago around the late 1970s to
the early 1980s. Beginning in 1985, house music spread from Chicago to other cities in North and
South America, Europe, and later Australia. House music is up tempo, and typically features
repetitive 4/4 beats, off beat hi hat cymbals, and synthesized baselines. Since the early to mid
1990s, house musicis increasingly incorporated into other genres; such as mainstream pop and
dance music worldwide. House music is popular in both clubs and in the mainstream pop scene,
while remaining strong in under ground scenes. This essay will discuss the history, the sound, the
most influential artists, and house music today. House music began in Chicago, in... Show more

disco and European electronic dance music; which eventually came to be known as house
music. He eventually left The Warehouse and opened his own club, The Power Plant in
Chicago. Ron Hardy was a producer of early house music and DJ in Chicago from the late 1970 s

Is Social Business working out? Ricardo Thomas Florida Tech University Is social business
working out? summary of major issues The social media platforms growth in the average person
s life has significantly altered our communication with each other, both at home and in the
workplace. In recent years companies have been trying to leverage the power of social media
within the business environment. Once the value of social business is understood and the effective
use of the many available tools are utilized, it can be advantageous to an organization s bottom
line. Several known implementation challenges can be averted if these prerequisites are in place
before implementing a tool. The example of the NASA s Goddard Space Flight... Show more

Without support from executive management, social networks may never gain a proper foothold
throughout the organization. Management must set the pace for line staff to follow and adopt.
Therefore, if it s not important to senior management, it most likely won t be important to the
workforce as a whole. According to the case and additional research, most companies are not
providing the incentive that staff requires to be motivated to use these tools. The article states
that only 22 percent of social software users believe the technology to be necessary to their jobs.
Hence training on these new tools and the role they play within an organization is a critical factor
that can lead to failure or success. It is therefore crucial that management in cooperates training and
effectively communicates the importance of these tools to the general workforce. Management
should not assume that because employees are used to participating on social networks like
Facebook that they will adopt to internal social networks as easily. If employees are used to
collaborating and doing business effectively in more traditional ways like sending emails, then they
will need an incentive to use social software. Organization Organization needs to understand the
value of Social Networking for both internal and external business. Once this is done, the efforts to
convince the line staff would be easier. Many companies have found

Argumentative Essay On Marijuana Legalization
Marijuana Legalization
35 million Americans use marijuana on a monthly basis, while at least 78 million Americans use at
some point, according to a survey by Yahoo News/Marist College (Kate); however, marijuana is an
illegal drug in most of The United States. Marijuana has been outlawed, and the potential benefits of
legalization outweigh the detriments of criminalization. Marijuana can be decriminalized by
affecting the general consensus of the public through social media and removing cannabis from
Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act.
There are many benefits of decriminalizing marijuana, from the ability to tax to the overall fixing
of a historical problem; however, there is much more the illegality of marijuana imposes. The idea
of marijuana being legalized resulting in increased drug usage rates is a fallacy. Marijuana
legalization will not necessarily skyrocket the rate of which Americans use marijuana: the
observed usage rate in America is 11%, while Norway, a country where the drug is legalized, has an
observed rate of 7% ( Marijuana Legalization Leads to a Reduction in Crime ). This information is
pertinent because it nullifies the notion of increased drug use in America as a consequence of
legalization; the common user of marijuana will continue usage independent of the legality.
Marijuana criminalization aids in linking illegal activities to drugs, raising the participation in the
illegal activities. Violence, prostitution, and gambling are associated with

A nation had to be well established and strong before it could explore and expand outward, this means that the europeans had to make changes themselves. Many christian european orders wanted to spread the christian religion to the native americans of the new world and also made some money from the towns they established. The Europeans were also in search of resources and a way to make their native currencies, many times the native americans were affected in the process. • 5. Native And Invasive Species Comparison Essay I am going to be finding the differences in Native and Invasive grasses, along with following information about the species. Native grasses are the dominant plants in the vast rangeland plant communities and are important in the understory of many forested areas. Fibrous roots of grasses hold the soil in place and build up soilfertility. Invasive plants are plants which grow quickly and aggressively, spreading and displacing other plants. Invasive plants are usually introduced by people either accidentally or on purpose, into a region far from their native habitat. In recent years interest in the use of a number of native grasses has increased. Species of interest include switchgrass (Panicum virgatum), indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans), eastern gamagrass (Tripsacum dactyloides), big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii), and little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium). However, we find that Centaurea diffusa, a noxious weed in North America, has much stronger negative effects on grass species from North America than on closely related grass species from communities to which Centaurea is native. Centaurea s advantage against North American species appears to be due to differences in the effects of its root exudates and how these root exudates affect competition for resources. Our results may help to explain why some exotic species so successfully invade natural plant communities. Negative impacts of invasive plants on natives have been well documented, but much less is known about whether invasive plants can cause population level declines. We used demographic models to investigate the effects of two invasive grasses on the demography and population growth of Anemone patens, a long lived native perennial of North American ... Hyperalgesic spots that refer to pain and lie within connective tissues or muscles are known as trigger points (Wittink Michel, 2002). Trigger points are typically found at the bony attachments and are more common within the muscles of the neck, shoulder and the pelvic girdle. Myofascial trigger points are commonly found in patients with musculoskeletal pain(Kalichman Vulfsons, 2010). They signify the distribution of sarcoplasmic reticulum of the musclefibres (Bron Domerholt, 2012). Motor end plate noise is from low amplitude discharges (10 50 UV) within the taut band, whether or not the trigger points square measure is painful or not. Intermittent high amplitude discharges (up to five hundred UV) square measure are seen in painful trigger points (Simons et al., 2002). Manual techniques such as active and passive are two treatments that aid the process in releasing a trigger point (Wai Leung, 2010). The simplest variability of active release is stretching. Slow sustained stretches are more effective at releasing trigger point tightness than fast transient stretches, this is often a result of the sarcomeres as it takes time to be released, as a result of the stickiness of its molecules. However, as soon as the muscle relaxes, the sarcomere incorporates a tendency to return to its previous state (Chesterton, 2007). A series of contract relax is more practical in re setting the length. The patient stretches the muscles to increase and extend the sarcomeres, then actively contracts the antagonist muscles to take up the slack. This additionally brings about reciprocal inhibition therapy, that facilitates the release of the muscle being elongated (Wai Leung, 2010). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Influence Of Past American Women Writers The Influence of Past American Women Writers Amy Tan, Julia Ward Howe, and Judith Sargent Murray are some of the noble women whom have helped shape the lives of their fellow gender with the talents of their writing. Much of their writing became increasingly influential years after it was written. Their literature allows today s modern readers to reflect on the humanity and the treatment of women, understand history s past, and use it as an example to continue spreading the vision of the equality of women today. Tan was known for her willingness to stand up for herself against her mother, in pursuits to find her own dreams versus those of what her mother had laid out for her (Showalter, Ch. Amy Tan ). Howe was a poet, and founder of the nation s Battle Hymn of the Republic , she was known for her activism of women s rights, abolition, and world peace (Showalter, Ch. Julia Ward Howe ). Lastly, Murray was known as the first womanof American letters, speaking for women s rights after the American Revolutionary War (Showalter, Ch. Judith Sargent Murray ). Tan, Howe, and Murray have proved to be influential not only in America s historic past, but inspiration leading to today and the future as well. My classes became slightly more difficult than they were last year, as a freshman. Which made it more challenging to keep up with all the class work, tests, quizzes, and homework. Although, most of the assignments assigned became a bit effortless, of course effort is needed but it s just so simple to do. All of my classes balance between those two, being challenging at times but also being simple. I, like every other student was enrolled into a World History class. In our storyboard we presented steam trains, steam boats from the Industrial Revolution and how the invention of the steam engine bettered but also damaged the world. We then showed cruise ships, trains from modern times. We showed that for modern times trains are used for going to point A to point B, and boats for example a cruise ship is for luxury. Homelessness is a huge problem alone, but having so many young people on the streets is even worse. To solve this problem we must first understand how young people are put in this position, how many young people are homeless, and what being in this position does to them. The first step to fixing this issue is figuring out who is in this position and why. Approximately 34% of the country s homeless population are under the age of 24, why are these people homeless? Most youths become homeless because they are running away from something. About 79% of homeless youth were being physically abused at home and 39% were sexually abused. As Janet tried to calm herself, the idea that a dead woman was in the basement of her house began to beat at her like a flail. The idea that she was frozen with freight was illustrated by her body being like a drawn bow. Examples of more figurative language can be found throughout the text. At the end when her husband frightened her, Janet no longer felt safe at home or with her husband. So she ran out into the raging storm for protection from within. • 21. Childhood Development And Parental Drug Use Essay I.Introduction Parenting is the ultimate long term investment and it can be one of the most rewarding jobs. It starts with talking, reading, and nurturing infants which leads to clear values in adolescents. Parents have an enormous influence over their children s development and although kids come with their own temperaments, it is ultimately the parents job to provide an interface with the world to help the child prepare for complete independence in a rapidly changing world. Parents play the lead supporting role in their children s learning and development and influence a child s well being. But what happens when a child s parents are not actively involved in their lives and abuse drugs? This study asks: Is there is a link between early stages of childhood development and parental drug use? II.Literature Review The United States Department of Justice National Drug Intelligence Center (2011) states that drugs change brains and this may lead to addiction so it is imperative that prevention starts in reducing these risks early . The most critical time drug abuse increases in adults is during times of transition such as a divorce or loss of a job. In early adolescence, social and academic challenges allow for greater exposure in the school environment. High school welcomes greater availability of drugs and at the same time normal behaviors such as the desire to try new things or take greater risks, may increase teen tendencies to experiment. This is a quote by Buzz Aldrin, an astronaut on Apollo 11 along with Neil Armstrong, that explains a global interest with the unknown and especially humans traveling to outer space, more specifically: Mars. But the same question is asked over and over again by scientist all over the world: How do we get there ? This question has been mainly contemplated since 1969 and even sooner for some groups. Most of the ideas brought to the national aerospace agencies are related to building a better space ship or stronger engines. But the achilles heel of all of these plans are the same two things, cost and efficiency. Currently, sending four people to Mars is an estimated at six billion U.S Dollars which many countries are not willing or able to spend.
