Introduction:
The four stroke petrol engine works on the principle
of theoritical otto cycle and also known as constant
volume cycle.
In four stroke petrol engine the valve operating for
inlet is called inlet valve and the valve operating for
exhaust is called exhaust valve. In petrol engine spark
plug fitted at the top of the cylinder head initiates the
ignition of the air fuel mixture.
Engine Details:
Working:
The piston performs
four strokes to complete
one working cycle. The
four different strokes
are:
1. Suction
2. Compression
3. Power
4. Exhaust
Applications:
Four stroke petrol engine commonly used in today’s world,
 Four stroke engine widely used in automobile industries.
 They are used in bus, trucks and other transportation
vehicles.
 They are used in pumping system.
 These engines find application in mobile electric
generators.
 These engines widely used in aircraft and marine engines.
 Diesel engines find application in pump sets, construction
machinery, air compressor, drilling rigs, etc.
Advantages:
 Four stroke engines give higher efficiency.
 It creates less pollution.
 Less wear and tear due to good lubrication system
 It is quitter in operation.
 It runs cleaner due to no extra oil added in fuel.
 They give high rpm at low power.
Any Question…?
Thank You.
