Essay about The 1994 Baseball Strike
The 1994 Baseball Strike On August 12, 1994 professional baseball players went on strike for the
eighth time in the sports history. Since 1972, negotiations between the union and owners over contract
terms has led to major economic problems and the absence of a World Series in 1994. All issues were
open for debate due to the expiration of the last contract. Until 1968, no collective bargaining
agreement had ever been reached between the owners and the players (Dolan 11). Collective
bargaining is the process by which union representatives for employees in a bargaining unit negotiate
employment conditions for the entire bargaining unit (Atlantic Unbound). Instead, the players were at
the mercy of each owner who possessed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two major issues led directly to the interruption and eventually the cancellation of the entire season.
After a 28 0 vote among the owners, they agreed to share revenue on the condition they could get the
players to accept a salary cap. The issue of revenue sharing was directly linked to the salary cap. By
taking this action, the owners signaled they had come to realize the problem of disparity between big
market teams (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago) and small market teams (Seattle, Pittsburgh,
Milwaukee). The problem, however, was that because the owners linked their revenue sharing with a
salary cap, the players felt they were being asked to solve the owners financial disparity problem.
There is a noticeable difference in team payrolls, as displayed in 1993, when the the payroll of the
Toronto Blue Jays was $48.4 million, compared with San Diego Padres payroll of only $10.6 million
(Layden 17). Therefore, the idea of revenue sharing, wherein big market teams would transfer monies
to the small market teams, was a good one, but it caused disputes among the owners as to how the
formula would be worked out. Not all of the small market teams were in bad shape financially. In fact,
some that had built or were building new stadiums such as Baltimore, Cleveland, and Texas were
doing quite well. It was not until June 14, 1994, that the owners finally presented their collective
bargaining proposal, 18

Mountaintop Mining Is Bad
Mountains, animals, and the environment are what makes Earth beautiful. But horrible things are
destroying the Earth s beauty with mountaintop mining being a prime example. Mountaintop mining is
horrible because it destroys ecosystems and damages biodiversity over an extreme scale. Aquatic life
is literally suffocated by the waste rock thrown into valleys and gorges. For instance, an article by
NASA stated that The waste rock from the mountain is dumped into valleys and pollutes water/stream
beds, causing a decline in aquatic life. The pollution can create genetic mutations in fish and raises the
amount of metal in streams. This affects the wildlife around the streams and humans, too. In fact, the
article Bad Rock: How Mountaintop Removal Mining Can Damage Streams says Many streams are
buried under tens to hundreds of meters of waste rock. The streams that are buried are home to many
different aquatic species, but they are being killed because of the demand for coal. Many streams and
animals are being killed, and it s advancing throughout the land. Too many acres of biodiversity has
been damaged. For example, NASA made an article that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mountaintop mining destroys ecosystems, which promotes the usage of coal, a fossil fuel that
produces dangerous pollutants. According to Clean Air Kids Air Quality, CO2 (is created when coal is
burned) can combine with fog that makes it difficult for us to breath. CO2 is also a greenhouse gas.
Greenhouse gases contribute to global warming and climate change. Mountaintop mining may help us,
but in the end, it causes destruction for us and many other living

How Does Emily Bronte s Use Of Food
In the novel Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte includes the consumption of food, and in certain
situations the lack of its consumption to develop the storyline so further progressions are able to occur.
Bronte also includes these scenes involving food to provide strong symbolic and thematic qualities to
the novel. In the novel, meals are not there to serve the purpose of providing background information
to other parts of the narrative, rather they are included so that the characters have the opportunity to
reveal a new piece of information or to allow the reader to have deeper insight into how the character
is currently feeling in the moment, and where their passion is leading to. These characteristics are
evident when Heathcliff decides to starve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later on, Heathcliff locks himself in his room which is similar to what Catherine does and he refuses
to see a doctor, and in his weakened state finally succumbs to his death. Nelly, not knowing of his
death opens the door with a spare key and finds him on the floor soaking wet due to the rain that came
down through the open window above him. Bronte suggests the possible reunion of Heathcliff and
Catherine by explaining that the local residents believe that they see their apparitions walking around
the moors together. For the reader to notice and understand what is occurring because of the
involvement of food, they have to pay attention to the tiny details that take place in the plot, setting,
and diction that the author uses. The process of eating has the ability to show how characters can
overcome internal obstacles and enable the reader to empathize with characters. One of Bronte s goals
is to help the reader understand all of the characteristics and various dynamics that take place during
the simple, yet in some cases complex act of

Comparing Virgin And Child With Donor

With the influence of mannerism in Renaissance , the composition of the figures intertwine and create
not just complex composition but a dynamic three dimensional space. Both of the child have its left
leg stepping forward, however, because of the diagonal composition in the Dolci painting and the
depth expressed by the diagonal accent, it enhances the three dimensional effect. Dolci s composition
is also more unified meaning the subjects form a dynamic composition relationship. There is more
variation of postures in the painting and their limbs, accessories are more intertwined. The scene
seems more like a happening than a positioned, still portrait. Romano s composition of the space seem
to be more layer based and there are less spatial relationships between the figures. Dolci also
introduced a new technique by cropping the image of the subjects with a slight highlighted line. This
new technique is unique in a way that it restraint the subject in another area than the frame. This
enhances the three dimensional effect evermore, giving the illusion as if the viewer would peek into
the space inside of the painting, instead of looking directly at the image and associating it with areas
outside of the painting such as a frame which naturally limits space and create a barrier between the
viewer and the subjects in painting

Informative Speech On Mechanical Engineering

*Walks to the front and looks around, then walking from the side of the room towards the center*
Before I begin my presentation, I d like to see by a show of hands; how many of you think of pills,
hospital gowns, cute nurses, and scary needles when you hear the words medical field ?
*wait for a show of hands* (say something along the lines of okay, so were about half in half )
What if I told you that there are so many other aspects of medicine than what your use to seeing?
My presentation will be on one of the most advancing fields in the world today, engineering, that s
kind of vague so I ll narrow it down a bit. Specifically Bio mechanical engineering, or for short Bio
mech.
What is Bio mech? It is the combination of both biological theories and mechanical engineering
principles, which are combined in order to better understand how they can be used to improve the
quality of life.
I plan to show you today how bio mech as not only impacted my life, but has (or can) impact your
lives.

To start off,
My friend Fred, On July 10th, 2017, lost his arm while in the Caloosahatchee River. A few of his
friends and him decided to go swimming there when a large alligator approached them. He knew that
his friends weren t going to be able to get away if it latched onto them, putting himself between the
gator and his friends he got bit (but luckily they were all still alive).
Soon after, Fred s family and community raised over $37,000 in order to buy him a bionic arm.
Well there is a new innovation in bionic technology, the i limb, this bionic hand which has made
significant advancements in order to make bionic limbs even more realistic. According to Thomas K.
Grose, who has written Journals such as; STILL TOO FEW , Smart Electronics: SECURITY RISK ,
and is also the manager at American Society for Engineering Education.
The hand utilizes five individually powered articulating fingers, each with three articulating joins,
moved by five motors, so that it can look and act just like real hands. Allowing the user to grasp
objects that they wouldn t have been able to do other wise.
The hand is controlled through myoelectric sensors, myo is Latin for muscle). So they are essentially

very smart. I can figure out where the birds are from their scent. Here s what happened today. 8:30
a.m. to 12:00 p.m. My trainer Joe and I patrolled the grass and bushes along runways 1 through 5.

Essay On Bill Gates
Finding people who are both inspiring and empathetic to the needs of other can be very hard to find.
When I think about this person I have always thought about the power of kindness and generosity that
the human mind can have. This is the reason why this person and his wife are one my favorite and
greatest leaders of this century. This individual has not only changed the world by ben affectionate for
mankind, especially as shown in his devotion of work or wealth to people around the world but has
also been a great innovator and leader in the world of technology.

Bill got enrolled at Harvard University in the fall of 1973 and was originally pursuing a career in law.
But, his love for computer made him spend most of his time in the computer lab. Bill did not have a

disappointment, he dropped out of Harvard in two years in 1975 to pursue his business Microsoft with
his new found partner Paul Allen ( Bill Gates , 2017). When Gates was at Lakeside he met Paul Allen,
who then was two years his seniors. They became friend very fast, sharing their love computers, even
though they had different personalities. Allen was a reserved individual, while Bill was feisty and
sometime combative. I believe that this where qualities that aided him to weather through various
storms to come. One quality seen in most leaders is tenacity, which at time can be seems stubbornness
but is the one quality that makes these individuals resilient and ground fastened when it some to their

Comparing Ron Howard s How the Grinch Stole Christmas to...
Comparing Ron Howard s How the Grinch Stole Christmas to Dr. Seuss Grinch
Whether or not you consider Ron Howard s version of Dr Seuss s classic How The Grinch Stole
Christmas comical, yet disgraceful, there s no ignoring the little green monster s reign over the box
office. The movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey, was released in November of
2000, reaching a gross high of over $200 million in the U.S alone (The Numbers). However, I feel that
this version has over exaggerated the original story, and I will back this up by showing many
examples of how Dr. Seuss s classic turned into a marketing, franchise frenzy.
Dr. Seuss s original fable is a simple story told with a great moral that criticizes the ... Show more

This show can be seen on TV every Christmas season. Then Ron Howard takes this short film and
draws it out to be a two and a half hour long movie. The worst aspect of the movie is that it makes a
mockery of Seuss s main message: Christmas doesn t come from a store. This movie is all about
selling, from those furry talking Grinch dolls to endless fast food tie ins.
There are many differences between the movie and the original story, one of which is Cindy Lou Who.
In the original Grinch she is portrayed as innocent two year old. In the movie however, she is about
seven years old, which allows her to be slightly more skeptical about things. Jim Carrey played The
Grinch, but when watching this movie it seemed as if The Grinch was playing Jim Carrey. The
original cartoon leaves you with much more imagination as to why the Grinch is so mean. Quoting
from Dr. Seuss s book:
The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season! Now, please don t ask why. No one quite
knows the reason. It could be that his head wasn t screwed on quite right. It could be, perhaps, that his
shoes were to tight. But I think that the most likely reason of all May have been that his heart was two
sizes too small. (Seuss).
However in the over exaggerated movie it included the reason behind the Grinch s hatred of
Christmas; saying it was because the kids used to tease him when he was little, until the day he

Michelangelo wasn t always part of the Renaissance he had a life before the Renaissance. It s not like
Michelangelo was born and became one of the greatest artist. Nope. Michelangelo was born on March
6, 1475 in Caprese, Italy. At a young age, Michelangelo copied painting on churches instead of doing
schoolwork. When Michelangelo was 14 years old, Michelangelo s father convinced an artist,
Ghirlandaio to take Michelangelo as an apprentice. Michelangelo improved his skills. Later, Lorenzo
de Medici, the current ruler, asked Ghirlandaio to bring his best two artists to a Humanist Academy.

The Importance Of Extreme Work
Extreme work in organisations
The main focus of this argument is on how extreme work is moving into everyday organisational
domains and why might this be something we should be concerned about. The first question that
comes to our mind is; are extreme jobs and extreme work the same subject? Jobs involving the
constancy of extreme working, with work spilling over a range of temporal, spatial and social
boundaries, refusing containment, as evidenced in the growth of corporate overwork cultures
(Bozkurt, 2015) whereas extreme work is work that is being carried out in dangerous, high pressure,
unpredictable, risky situations (Bloomfield Dale 2015). Although only extreme jobs are supposed to
have extremity in the work place, nowadays even normal jobs have phases in which they have to
handle a lot of extreme work. These phases effect the working of the management drastically in many
ways, both positively and negatively. The rapid increase of extreme working conditions in normal jobs
is a paramount issue, thus the question; why is extreme work moving into our everyday organisational
domains hits us.
Even in the occupations not known for intense, dirty or risky work tasks, there is a growing sense in
which normal workplaces are becoming extreme , especially in relation to work intensity, long hours
cultures and the normalizing of extreme work behaviours and cultures (Granter, McCann and Boyle,
2015); like the work of a shopkeeper at Apple, when a new product is launched

Definition Of Cultural Romance Definition
Often times when people hear the word romance, they think in matters of the cultural definition; this
consisting of passionate love, companion love, and infatuation. Cultural romance is a common theme
in today s society, and it is often the only form of romance that people today are familiar with or even
aware of. However, romance can also be thought of in terms of its dictionary definition. Romance can
be described as a specific time period, art style or genre, events, one s imagination, or someone s
private escape from the world. It can be demonstrated through many different art forms such as
paintings, movies, literary forms such as poetry, and music, all of which was discussed in this class
(Romance Theme: Definitions). On specific art piece that depicts the dictionary definition is Francis
Danby s painting The Deluge. In this painting, the famous flood that occurs in the book of Genesis of
the Old Testament is the center point of the events in this painting. It shows people and animals in the
water, struggling against the powerful waves of the storm. They are trying to cling to trees, land, and
rocks in order to be saved from the deathly water that surrounds them. In the far distance you can
make out the shape of Noah s Arc and a bright red sun. Noah and his family, along with animals, were
safe from the storm because God had commanded Noah to build the arc in order for him, his family,
and two of each animal to be saved. Because it is showing an event that happened

Factors Affecting The Environment Of The World s Fisheries
Fisheries satisfy the conditions for being a common (public) good by being non excludable and rival.
No one can exclude a person from fishing, but present day intake of fish will reduce the amount
available for other fisherman in the future ( rival ). Around 80% of the world s fisheries are being over
exploited leading to a devastating impact on aquatic communities as it destabilizes the food chain and
destructs the natural habitats of many oceanic communities. Fish, however, are not the only
stakeholders affected by these current threats. The different hazards to this industry also cause a socio
economic and financial loss. Oceans support the livelihood of over 520 million people involved in
fishing and fish related activities. (WWF) Various emerging economies around the world such as
Bangladesh, Peru and Pakistan depend highly on the fishing industry for their national income.
Additionally, seafood is a staple diet in many developing countries as it is a rich source of protein.
With rising incomes in emerging economies, the global demand for fish is growing rapidly, affecting
over 2.6 billion people. Due to the various threats, the overall economic position of many developing
countries is under pressure. Furthermore, fisheries around the world are already working at or over
capacity, causing overconsumption of seafood, leading to depletion in the amount of fish available for
future generations. This impairment of fisheries is also coming from a number of

Diversity at Deloitte
Gender amp; Diversity Plan and Policies
When talking about equality opportunities implemented by companies, we can make a differentiation
between two different models, the liberal and the radical one.
The liberal model, described by Jewson and Mason, is emphasized on a philosophy of sameness ,
where people should have access to and be assessed within the workplace as individuals, regardless of
social category.
In the other hand, the radical approach is focused on a positive discrimination where employment
practices are deliberately manipulated in order to obtain a fair distribution of those disadvantaged
groups in the workplace, and it is also focused in achieving not only equality of opportunity but also
equality of outcome. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Jealousy And Discrimination In Shakespeare s Othello
People discriminate for many different reasons: terror, jealousy, the desire for power, or a need to
dissociate themselves from other people. They can, thus, use someone s skin color (a hereditary trait
that cannot be altered) to express their hatred. In Shakespeare s play Othello, Othello, is a happily
wedded man and despite his African heritage, is a well respected general in the Venetian army. At the
beginning of the play, Othello has not experienced any type of discrimination, as of yet. However, by
Iago pointing out to Othello the existence of racist concepts and persuading him on taking action
against the individuals who are presumably harboring racist fueled indignations, Iago successfully
causes the ruin Othello and his wife Desdemona. Race is an issue throughout the play because of Iago
s hatred towards Othello. Also, Iago oftentimes uses racial insults against Othello. For example, when
Iago finds out about the elopement between Desdemona and Othello, he informs her father by saying

Due to the color of his skin other people also treat and view Othello as an outsider. Iago and Brabantio
are the ones who mainly see Othello as an outsider. This is obvious through the ways they talk about
him. For example, Iago suggests that Othello is an outsider when he is predicting that the offspring of
Iago and Desdemona will be subhuman. you ll have your daughter covered with a Barbary horse; you

System analysis and design is the scientific method of breaking down a system into its component
pieces and studying how well those component parts work and interact to accomplish their main
purpose. In essence, this course introduced me to the art of solving problems with the aim of making a
person or an organization s work easier and more efficient. In the course of learning, I learnt how
system analysis and design employs a four pronged approach to solving these problems; planning,
analysis, design and implementation. Mainly the system development life cycle (SDLC) is the process
of understanding how information system can support business needs, designing the system, building
it, and delivering it to users.
In my study of system analysis and design, I have come to appreciate several concepts that I have
learnt throughout the course. More than anything else the system analysis is a creative activity. The
analyst must frame the whole such that it can be analyzed. The analysis must work with all levels of
an organization, data, work progress, gathering information through a host of sources, and somehow
shape these into a cogent whole and the rest of the document describes in broad strokes how to frame
any system, how to harness these to create the documents necessary for implementing a new plan.
The analyst must be aware of the organization from the abstract level (e.g., the mission statement), to
the data and technical level, the

My Career As A Nurse
This world offers so many career opportunities, from being an elementary teacher to a yoga instructor
to a cardiologist. The job variety is endless, and anyone has the potential at becoming a professional in
the career of their dreams. I ve always known I wanted to go college, and now I know I want to

anesthetist. When I was younger if someone would ask me what I wanted to be when I got older, I
would say I wanted to be a singer, a teacher, or a chef, and that answer would change on a regular
basis. Even recently now I ve changed my future career from being a physical therapist to a
psychiatrist to a registered nurse. A registered nurse spends an average day in the hospital assisting
and managing patients with medicine, documenting information, and communicating with supervisors,
peers, and subordinates. A registered nurse that specializes in anesthesia, which is a nurse anesthetist,
will always be doing specific tasks such as: administering anesthesia to patients before and during
surgery and they care for and monitor patients before, during, and after surgery. I would love to
become a nurse anesthetist, because I want to be able to help care for others and I want to be in an
environment where I am helping patients recover and helping with pain. After doing research and
asking many questions, I ve become dead set on becoming a nurse anesthetist. In the medical field, a

William W. Cape Jr.
The art of rhetoric comes in many different ways, practices, and ideals, but was ultimately started by
the Ancient Greeks and adopted by the later Romans. Robert W. Cape Jr. not only explores the
connection between the two, but also analyzes Cicero, an ancient Roman, and his ideology that
suggested orators being the best qualified to write and present history correctly, both singularly and
through the use of rhetoric. The article Cape published, Persuasive History: Roman Rhetoric and
Historiography , analyzes Cicero s main argument of entrusting orators with history s immortality
through his interpreted citations, Latin semantics, his affinity to his own intellectual means, and a
nonexistent chorus. Historiography, better known as the study of historical writing or the writing of
history, is exactly what Cape emphasizes with this article. He has a long, running list of sources that
he uses, but a majority of them are an interpretation of some kind. For example, instead of directly
sourcing Cicero s De Oratore, Cape cites The Structure of De Oratore from Michel and Verdière
instead. By studying the concrete source, especially from ancient times, and the interpretations years
after, an author can come to his or her own conclusion and clarification. Because of the time lapse
between modern and ancient, primary research is almost always nonexistent, meanwhile secondary
research is typically the go to for written history. Hence, authors must use interpretations and

How To Write A Persuasive Essay On Gun Control
You may have heard about the recent uproar in regards to gun control, and while many believe that

everyone who possesses a Firearms License should be allowed to own firearms and ammunition.
According to Gary Johnson, Former Governor of New Mexico, I am in the camp that if you outlaw
guns only the criminals are going to have guns. I strongly agree with this quote. I also think that if we

According to Ted Cruz, a US Senator, What I think is two things, number one, that restricting the right
to keep and bear arms is unconstitutional. The Second Amendment is an integral part of the Bill of
Rights. And what it means is, politicians cannot come and strip the guns from law abiding Americans.
But, number two, it s misguided policy. If you look at the jurisdictions with the strictest gun control
laws, almost without exception, they have the highest crime rates and the highest murder rates. If you
look at the jurisdictions that most vigorously protect our right to keep and bear arms, almost without
exception, they have the lowest crime rates and the lowest murder rates. Gun control policies don t
work. And they re contrary to the Constitution. This quote basically states that the areas that have
more gun control are more violent and have a higher crime and murder rates. Whereas the areas with
less gun control have a lower crime rate. This quote also states that it s unconstitutional to take away
the law abiding citizens guns. To conclude, I believe that more gun control would be unconstitutional
and would cause their to be a higher crime

Franz Schubert
Life of Franz Schubert.
Franz Peter Schubert (Schubert) is one of the great Austrian composers in the Romantic era. He is
famous for songwriting, which he has written over 600 songs (Burkholder 598). He was born in 1797
in Himmelpfortgrund, the suburbs of Vienna, Austria with the great talent in music (Brown).
His father, Franz Theodor Schubert, was a schoolmaster and an amateur musician. Schubert s father
was teaching music to his own children by himself. Shubert started showing his great music talent and
won a scholarship to study music in a boarding school in Vienna. At the school, he had private lessons
from Antonio Salieri, a composer who is famous for his operas and kept taking lessons from him even
after Schubert left the school due ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The work consists of four movements, Allegro, Andante con moto, Scherzo, and Presto. The subtitle,
Death and the Maiden was named after his previous song work, which contains the same themes as
the string quartet. One of the unusual features of this string quartet is that the all movements are
written in minor keys while typical string quartets contain movements in both major and minor keys.
(It modulates into major keys but tonal centres stay in minor keys.) That must reflect his feeling
regarding his hopeless future because of the illness he contracted in the same year. I chose the second
movement of the string quartet to arrange since I found that unusual feature of the key as stated above,
while the second movement of typical string quartets tend to be written in major key if the first
movement is written in a minor key. Besides, the 2nd movement is written in the form the variation by
using the accompaniment of his previous song work Death and the Maiden (Rothwell). Finally, I
arrange the movement for piano solo because it would be to reach a rather than a string quartet and I
would like to show pieces that are written for other instruments to people who don t have much
opportunity to listen to classical chamber music at a

Meat Loaf s Album Bat Out Of Hell
Meat Loaf s album Bat Out Of Hell was released in 1977, and is considered by many as an iconic
album cover. In 2001, it was rated 71st in Q Magazine s listing of The 100 Best Album Covers of All
Time . Singer Meat Loaf and composer Jim Steinman commissioned the cover artwork from the
renowned comic artist Richard Corben, best known for his sci fi and fantasy work. Corben s
illustration effectively advertises the album s contents to the target audience as well as creating the
beginnings of a visual identity for Meat Loaf .
The illustration was designed to fit the size and shape of an album cover measuring 12.375 inches
square. The original artwork was painted on a 24 inch square canvas board using oil and acrylic paint.
Designing an illustration to fit these precise dimensions can be challenging as you are limited by both
size and shape, which restricts the composition.
It is difficult to illustrate the shifting moods, and the emotional range (THORGERSON, Storm,
Aubrey POWELL and Design Richard EVANS. 1999. 100 best album covers: [ the stories behind the
sleeves]. London: Dorling Kindersley Publishers) of the entire album in one twelve inch square piece
of artwork.
Coben worked around this problem by focusing on the album s title track and main hit single Bat Out
Of Hell . Despite Corben focusing on one song, the artwork reflects the Gothic heavy metal tone of
the entire album. By concentrating on the one song Coben has created a very powerful, eye catching

Formal Is Not A Rite Of Passage
The definition of ritual is: a patterned, repetitive and symbolic enactment of a cultural belief or value
(Davis Floyd, as cited in Dubisch, p.279). With that, I realized had my theme: a Formal. In college the
equivalent to a Prom are Formals. Nevertheless, like a Prom, Formals have many cultural beliefs and
values, from tuxedos and dresses to what to eat, and how to dance. Formals are supposed to fun and
memorable, and how you and your date choose to make create those memories. As with all rituals,
Formals have traditional preparations and symbols that have true cultural beliefs and values. In this
paper, I will argue that Formals are not only a ritual, but a rite of passage, mostly for the girl, but as a
guy you can help make it memorable by using symbols that have meaning and will make the night
unforgettable.
Beliefs and Cultures
Formals, like Prom are part of the American Culture. In fact, it is a cultural ritual because it has
intentional symbolic meaning; it is a rite of passage. From clothing, to music, to who you ask is all
part of the social bond of Formals. The biggest, most important part and daunting moment is asking
out the person you wish to accompany you to the Formal. The entire ... Show more content on

new ones being made. Although things have changed over the years, Formal and its idea has stayed
the same. The events leading up to Formal are just as important as the actual event. That is something
that has never changed, nor should. Every person comes out with a different perspective and
experience. Although society norms dictate that Formals are for the girl, it joins people together and
gives us all a chance to bond around certain moments that will forever stand out in our minds.
Therefore, the real value comes in the preparation that happened around the

Self Reliance As Defined By Webster s Dictionary
Self reliance, as defined by Webster s Dictionary, is the reliance on one s own efforts and abilities.
Emerson expands on that concept in his 1841 essay entitled Self Reliance. For Emerson, self reliance
has many different facets. His main point is the importance of embracing individuality. He says, not
for nothing one face, one character, one fact, makes much impression on him [man], and another none.
It is not with out pre established harmony, this sculpture in the memory (2). This idea of divine
predestination is central to his argument for believing in oneself. He asks the reader to trust his or her
own thoughts. After all, all great thoughts from all great thinkers were unique to them. The world
could not have benefited from Plato, or Luther, or Christ, if they had not trusted their own instincts
and believed them true for all mankind. These great men were able to live in the world as in solitude,
walking and functioning among others while trusting their own thoughts and accepting the fact that
they were often alone in them. Emerson warns against living in the past, repeating the thoughts of
others. Instead he would rather one live for oneself in the present, for power ceases in the instant of
repose; it resides in the moment of transition from a past to a new state... This one fact the world
hates, that the soul becomes; for that forever degrades the past... (26). Emerson does not mislead his
readers into thinking self reliance will be easy. In fact, he clearly

Definitions Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction
1. Using two references and in your words, defines Weapons of Mass Destruction?
Weapons of mass destruction might be described as weapon with the capacity to inflict death and
destruction on such a massive scale and so indiscriminately that its very presence in the hands of a
hostile power can be considered a grievous threat (WMDC, 2006). Most weapons of mass destruction
are nuclear, biological, or chemical. The term is a relatively new one, as it first appeared in December
1937 in an address by Archbishop Of Canterbury. Weapons of mass destruction may also include
fierce fighting machines such as tanks and atomic missiles. These arms can cause massive damage to
physical structures such as buildings, roads, and bridges (Graham Talent, 2008). However, the
meaning of the term was quite different from the way it is used in the contemporary international law.
Weapons of mass destruction appear in the document signed by Harry Truman in 1945. After that, the
term weapons of mass destruction was included in the titular resolution passed by the General
Assembly of the United Nations (WMDC, 2006). The essential characteristics of these arms are their
ability to cause large scale destruction. There is no single definition of the term large scale destruction
. However, it could be assumed that massive destruction is the one that causes injuries or death for a
large number of people and the one that destroys vast territories, causing damage to ecology and
making it

Citigroup and Subprime Lending Case Study

associated with subprime lending? Are those moral concerns based on utilitarianism, rights, or justice
considerations? Before we discuss the first question let s get a working description of what subprime

not qualified for traditional loans due to their poor credit status and history of repayment difficulties.

Basic liberties such as freedom of speech and rights such as equal opportunity are fundamental
concepts that express consideration of freedom, autonomy and basic equality. Rights may be derived
from moral principles or may be established through political choice. Rights are often categorized as
positive or negative (Baron, 2010). In this case I would say that some basic rights of the consumers
may have been violated by CitiFinancial because they were not completely up front about the small
print that told the true story about the consolidation loans. Other moral philosophies emphasize
justice, which requires comparisons of situations of individuals. Justice theories are concerned with
how different individuals stand relative to each other on dimensions including, but not limited to,
rights, liberties and consequences. The three principal categories of justice theories are distributive,
compensatory and retributive. Distributive justice is concerned with providing incentives to contribute
to well being in society and with providing a fair and just distribution of the rewards of those
contributions. Compensatory justice is concerned with determining how individuals should be
compensated for the harm done by others. Retributive justice is concerned with punishment of actions
that are contrary to a moral rule or societal well being. Retributive justice may be used to justify
deterring harmful actions (Baron, 2010).

A Reflection On The s The Vision Of Happiness
It s been said that If the immediate and direct purpose of our life is not suffering then our existence is
the most ill adapted to its purpose in the world . Obviously, that person was not Aristotle (unless the
entirety of Nichomachean Ethics utilizes a tone of obfuscated sarcasm typically reserved for internet
forums or pretentious asides) as he posits happiness as the ultimate human end, and contemplation the
best way of achieving it. However, both the vision of happiness he puts forth, as well as the means for
achieving it, differ widely from the typical semantics held throughout antiquity and modernity by the
listless majority. Although rather than simply explain his thought, I intend to demonstrate how one
comes to such conclusions, and so we must return to the initial Germanic dissension. Initially, it seems
difficult to argue with such an assertion. Within humanity alone, there exists a constancy of suffering,
which resonates with greater magnitude and frequency then any other state of being. As all else
decays, human suffering endures with adamant universality, gleaming with such brightness that it
outshines all other potential ends (apart from, perhaps, the biological imperatives of preservation and
procreation). Yet suffering as an end in itself seems so morbidly facetious that it is overlooked by the
willfully ignorant and the optimistically rational alike (and since I am a meritocratic elitist, we might
as well focus exclusively on the arguments made by

Pericles Funeral Oration Summary
Pericles Funeral Oration
Thucydides
431 BC
Secondary
1. The authors main point was to tell of Pericles grand speech he told at the annual funeral in Athens
for all who fell during war. Pericles main point of the speech was to not only tell of those who had
fallen achievements, but also of his personal view of Athens, and how skillful and mighty their
Athenian army was.
2. Thucydides wrote Pericles Funeral oration for his history of the Pelopponesian War. I can infer that
he is a historian who went into depth explaining the Athenians culture to honor their dead, and wrote
his speech. In Pericles speech, he is honoring the fallen Athenian heroes, and praising their form of
government democracy. He tells of how this allows men to act without judgment, and how Athens is
superior then others.
3. The author is not biased, and writes just of Pericles speech. Pericles point of view is that Athens is
superior over every other city. He tells of how they do not have to train their military from a young
age like the Spartans, and how they do not go to war with full strength, but divide their attention
between their navy and other troops, unlike the Spartans who start training at very young age, while
both are just as ready to fight. He also speeks of how their ancestors brought them a free country by

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh on 22 May 1859, he died in 1930. He printed his first
Sherlock Holmes book, A Study in Scarlet in 1887 in Beeton s Christmas Annual. Sherlock Holmes
soon became very popular amongst the people of their day, People immediately fell in love with
Sherlock Holmes for several reasons. One of the main reasons was because he was a detective and

At the time, Jack the ripper was also a problem for people, he made life for women very insecure and
unsafe seeing as they were his main targets. When Sherlock spoke to women he was more of a
gentleman, in many stories women came to Sherlock seeking help. Women didn t have much power
during the times of Victorian England. Back then the old Ball n Chain really was the Ball n Chain for
women, once they were married they were basically considered, in my opinion, baby making
machines or trophies, something you had around the house that s sole purpose was to look happy or
pretty. Men didn t consider that their wives had feelings or desires, that there was something behind
the smiles, women, like men actually wanted to be something and not just watch other people get
there. That s one of the reasons why women came to visit Sherlock Holmes to ask for help, he was a
gentleman.
Victorian England had a very interesting setting to it, dark streets, opium dens, markets etc. The opium

Objectives And Objectives Of Strategic Planning
Strategic planning involves defining an organization s process strategy or direction and making the
necessary decision on allocating resources to achieve the defined strategy. Key components are
defining the mission statement, establishing the goals and objectives a company wishes to achieve,
and creating the strategies to attain the set goals and objectives. This process provides direction and
meaning to the day to day activities of an organization. It also examines the organization s core values,
current progress, and environment it is working within. Since our environment is changing
demographically, economically and culturally at all times, and organization must utilize the strategic
planning process to transform and stay competitive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also must align with the realities of the current situation both internal and external to the
organization. Starting the strategic planning process requires the organization to answer some of the
following questions to define the vision of the organization:
1. What is the organization s business?
2. Where are we today?
3. What resources do we have to utilize?
4. What is the geographic area for the organization?
5. What differentiates the organization from competitors?
6. What are the products or services the organization is offering?
7. Where do we want to be?
8. How do we get to our goal?
The vision of the organization is then transformed into a mission statement. It is a broad
comprehensive statement for the intended purpose of the organization. The mission statement is the
core values the organization will be standing behind. It defines the vision of the organization, the
values and the purpose and the forward looking goals of an organization. After an organization has
defined its vision and mission statements, it is time to address the strategies for achieving results. The
analysis to determine how they will achieve the desired results should include the strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the organization. There are many internal and external
influences which will need to be examined. A process which is typically used to define this analysis is
called a SWOT analysis. SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses,

Development Of Optical Imaging Tools For Synapse Typing Essay
Development of Optical Imaging Tools for Synapse Typing
Restructure of synapse types and alternations of dynamics of neurotransmitters and neuromodulators
have been implicated in a number of human neurological and psychiatric diseases, including autism,
Alzheimer s disease, Parkinson s disease, schizophrenia, and addiction1,2. However, little is known
about how molecular compositions define different types and functions of synapses and how different
synapses organize in micro and macroscale to give rise to complex brain functions and disorders, due
to lack of appropriate tools to characterize synaptic biomolecules in situ in large scale. Here, I propose
a novel research program to develop transformative tools for large scale mapping of synaptic
biomolecules, functional imaging of neurotransmission and neuronal signaling. Specifically, it will
evolve along three main themes: 1. Expansion pathology for highly multiplexed, in situ and nanoscale
biomolecular imaging. 2. Optogenetic neurotransmitter indicator; 3. in situ imaging tools for
endogenous protein protein interaction; This program will expand on the themes of my previous work
on engineering optogenetic indicators for neuronal activities, such as calcium ions3,4 and voltage5,6
indicators, as well as my current work on devising a clinically optimized form of expansion
microscopy7,8, which contribute new capabilities to the broader communities of neuroscience, cell

What is the definition of Goodwill?
Goodwill is an intangible asset that mostly appears as the biggest intangible asset on the balance sheet.
The Goodwill can only be identified with the business as a whole. Therefore, the goodwill cannot be
sold individually in the marketplace, while some other intangible assets can be sold.
Goodwill is not easy to measure, because it includes exceptional management, desirable locations,
customer relations, and so on. The determination of the Goodwill is therefore most of the time very
subjective.
Companies only record the goodwill when there is an exchange transaction the involves the purchase
of an entire business.

Goodwill booking in the balance sheet
According to Harold Averkamp (2015), Goodwill is reported on the balance sheet as a noncurrent
asset.
Since 2001, U.S. companies are no longer required/allowed to amortize the recorded amount of
goodwill.
In accounting we use the word amortization to mean the systematic allocation of a balance sheet item
to expense (or revenue) on the income statement. Harold Averkamp (2015)
The amortization of an asset means that a company is allowed to split the value of the expenses stated
in the income statement over several months instead of a one time booking.
However, the amount of goodwill is subject to a goodwill impairment test at least once per year.
The companies have to verify at least once a year if the value of their assets is aligned with the fair
value of the market.
The test verifies if the value of the assets is bigger than the market value. An adjustment is recorded in
order to bring the value of the asset at the fair value in case of inequality.

Comparison of the Story of an Hour and a Sorrowful Woman...
The Portrayal of the Plight of Women by the Author, In Their Particular Period of Time Kate Chopin s
The Story of an Hour and Gail Godwin s A Sorrowful Woman are similar pieces of literary work. Both
stories offer a revealing glimpse of extremely unhappy marriages due to being forced into
stereotypical roles. Both stories portray women, who are trapped in their marriages and trapped in
their socially expected matriarchal characters. They are identified by their role as a wife and mother.

In The Story of an Hour Chopin portrays marriage and the role and feelings of women in the 19th
century as subordinate contributors to the husbands. The third word of the story is Mrs. , identifying
the protagonist as a wife, defining her role and her life. She is also identified as weak and fragile.
When her husband is killed in a train accident Mrs. Mallard cries, but for different reasons than would
be expected. She is sad for her husband s death, but, moreover, she is overcome with joy. For now she
is free. No one recognizes her true emotions because women fall apart when their spouse dies; it s
required. Marriage is portrayed as a life sentence. She said it over and over again under her breath:
free, free, free! Her pulse beat fast, and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch of her body
(1). Mrs. Mallard was relieved that her husband died for she thought her sentence was over. When she
realized that he was still alive, and therefore she was still committed to the marriage, she died from the
shock and horror of being trapped.
In both stories, women were expected to keep house, cook, bear and rear children but little more.
Moreover, should a woman find work, employers generally discriminated against women by hiring
them for menial jobs. Repression in both women may very well have been the reason for their
ailments and certainly their deaths Though a weak heart and suicide might be a stretch, as to be caused

An Open Mind As The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is another Comforter, Teacher, and Reminder. Before Christ went back to Heaven He
said that He would not leave us without another Comforter, of which is the Holy Ghost. God the Holy
Spirit, God the Father, and God the Son are a Trinity, in Heaven and on this earth. The Comforter

much more can one be secure than this?
Being the Holy Spirit is our Teacher, and the Word of God says He is, then that which is preached
should not be readily accepted. One should not build a doctrine on one or two verses of Scripture but
should study all verses on the subject with an open mind as the Holy Ghost teaches (II Timothy 2:15),.

is by the power of Christ who judged the old Devil and his kingdom, defeating Satan at the cross. The
Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth and is most reliable. He is God in the office of the Holy Spirit.
He listens, hears, and will communicate and speak to the believer, showing future things, glorifying
Christ, and will show you the things of the Father. See John 16:7 15.
Much conjecture is found concerning John 20:22. The way I view this verse tells that Jesus breathed
on, not in, the disciples, and said Receive ye the Holy Ghost: receiving the Holy Ghost that gave
commandments unto them (Acts 1:2). They received the Holy Ghost outwardly as those in the Old
Testament did and for particular services till Pentecost, and there dwelt within. In Acts 1:5 they were
waiting for a different baptism than that of John s which they had already received. They were to be
baptized by the Holy Ghost who would dwell both with them and be in them (John 14:17), and receive
the power to equip them to preach the gospel to all nations throughout the world (Acts 1:8). When
Pentecost had fully come they received that recorded in Acts chapter two.

Should Creationism Be Taught In Public Schools Essay
If you walk into a public school science classroom and ask the students what they were taught
pertaining to the creation of the universe, most likely the majority of them will talk about the Big
Bang theory or the theory of evolution. This has always been a topic of interest that has caused many
debates on whether public schools should teach creationism in the classrooms. Creationism is the
belief that the universe was created by specific acts of divine creation and is more known as Genesis
to the Abrahamic religions. In my opinion creationism is a subject that should be taught alongside of
science because it can develop critical thinking skills for the students, it will satisfy the demand of the
people, and will fulfill our freedom of speech. Many educators will disagree that creationism should
be taught in public schools because they say it is disapproved by science and will be a waste of time
since it is religious. Creationism is no more religious than the theory of the Big Bang, if you ask me it
takes greater faith to believe that something came out of nothing. The Big Bang theory is ... Show

We can agree that scientist are people whose job is to explain why something is how it is, but there
humans just like us and they also have their own beliefs therefore they can be bias, since there not
neutral and like everybody else they grew up with certain beliefs that can determines what they do
with the evidence. After spending some time doing research on scientific theories about creation and
creationism, I can say that all the theories of creation is no more truthful than creationism, and instead
of just teaching scientific theories in the school system, we should push for creationism to be taught as
well for the purpose of supplying demand, freedom of speech, and developing critical thinking skills

Essay On Calypso
Calypso has played a significant role in the politics of the country and acts as medium for the masses
of the society. During the period of enslavement, calypsonians appeared to have special control
through their songs to influence people around the slave masters. The power of persuasive
communication remained the strength of the calypsonian, well after slavery. They were experts in their
art form on the communication of political and other relevant messages to the population of Trinidad
and Tobago (Lashley, 1982). Calypso is a well known effective political weapon. Its lyrics can
disseminate such significant messages to the population of Trinidad and Tobago that people have
come not only to listen to them purely for entertainment, but also for their instrumental value. They
listen with the expectation of receiving messages from the calypso about ... Show more content on

Free to practice their culture, speak their language, Africans were free do as they pleased.
Unfortunately all the Africans that survived slavery were born in slavery, therefore most original
African cultures died along with the first slaves who arrived in the 16th century. On the other hand,
Carnival derived from the French. Carnival originated in France influenced by other Europeans and
practiced by the Africans created an entirely new culture only found in Trinidad. As Carnival evolved
so too did calypso. By 1914 the first calypso tent was established. What we know today as an event
where calypsonians showcase their talents, was once a simple tent where calypsonians practiced their
art. Some of the first calypsonians in Trinidad like: Atilla the Hun, Lord Invader and the Roaring Lion
all made an indelible impression on the Calypso world. Later Lord Kitchen and Sparrow continued to
make hits that were played throughout the world paving the way for Queen Victoria and Jerome
Rodrigez both of whom had stellar performances this

Summary Of Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
America for immigrants is a land where everybody can become somebody. In Two Kinds, from an
excerpt the novel, The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan, Jing mei s mother believed that her daughter
could become anyone that she wanted. Jing mei only wanted to become herself. Jing mei s mother
forced Jing mei to become a prodigy. At first Jing mei was excited to become a prodigy, however, as
time went on Jing mei started to hate trying to become a prodigy. It never stopped her mother from
trying to make Jing mei into a prodigy.Jing mei s perspective of her own cultural identity, her role as
daughter, and how she sees American life was different from her mother because they were born into
two different cultures.
Jing mei, American born, and her mother, Chinese born, came from two different cultural perspective
which causes them to have different views on cultural identity. Sujuan came to America hoping her
child will become a prodigy. When Jing mei and Sujuan were watching TV Sujuan saw Shirley
Temple, and at first mother thought I could be a Chinese Shirley Temple (Tan 22). Shirley Temple was
an American child prodigy. This indicates that Sujuan saw her daughter as a Chinese girl even though
Jing mei was born in America. This is significant because this was how her mother viewed Jing mei s
cultural identity. Sujuan s vision of her daughter being a Chinese Shirley Temple never happened
because Jing mei did not want to be anybody expect herself. As time continued Sujuan kept on trying

Roswell And Ufos
This essay will be about how the perspective of Roswell/UFO s have changed over time. How after
this incident, UFO s have been seen all over the world. In America, over 80% of it s population now
believe that UFO s exist (Wilson). Now for what reason would so many people start to believe that
UFO s exist. Will aliens were believed way before this era, because people have said there s no way
we re the only people in the billions of galaxies. There was no evidence or proof of aliens being
encountered with, but after Roswell s incident, it led to innumerable amounts of people believing that
aliens do exist.
First, Roswell s incident was claimed to be the first encounter with aliens. The first proof that aliens
could exist. When the scene had happened, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It could lead to different shocking outcomes that only the government could imagine. But of course
why, will first if someone is very religious, they can say there is now way one planet in billions of
galaxies only have life, but the government keeps it secret for a very alarming reason. The government
does not want us to be scared or alarmed (THE UFO COVER UP). It s a very protective reason for the
world to not go into panic and havoc (The UFO COVER UP).Because of the reasonings, this shows
that aliens exist. For example. it s like hiding something that you know you ve done wrong but can t
hide. Giving new explanations and cover up proving it doesn t exist when all these occurrences have
already taken place. There s no way of hiding that the government is just blinding the public from
UFO s, making us worry about our own lives, and our own self belief. (The UFO COVER UP).
In conclusion, Roswell s incident has been proven that a UFO has crashed near this area. From why
the military had covered up this situation so quickly, with all the new sightings, evidence proving
aliens have been encountered with at Roswell. Also with the government secrecy, Area 51 being so
secretive, military never giving out word about aliens from all the occurrences that have taken. These
all gives reason for people to believe that aliens do exist. Proving that this incident might have been
the first and also proving that this

Vanir Vs Aesir
Norse Gods and Goddessess are seperated into two different groups: The Vanir and The Aesir. The
Vanir group were associated with the earth, prosperity, and fertility. While the Aesir were gods of war
and of sky. The two groups were at war in the beginning possibly because of differing beliefs. Once
both sides realized neither would win the war, they joined together to fight common enemies. The
Chief among the Aesir gods, was Odin. Odin is the god of battle, wisdom, and poetry. He is
considered the most important and highly ranked Norse deity. The Voluspa says that Odin and his
brothers made the first man and first woman out of an ash tree and an elm tree. His wife Frigg was the
godess of the sky, marriage, and childbirth. She is the most powerful goddess in Asgard. Odin had a
son named Balder who was the god of light, he was also gentle and handsome. Holder was Balders
twin brother. Balder was Friggs favorite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is known to ride across the sky in a chariot pulled by goats. He also wears a belt to match his
hammer, named the Meginjardir. He has a very short tempered personality, but actually liked humans
unlike most other Norse gods. The god of war, justice and order, Tyr was the bravest of all the gods.
He was honorable and true to his word. He was famous for having only one hand, and his story is told
in a myth called Tyr and the Jaws of Fenris . Balders twin brother, Holder was blind. All that is known
of him is that after the mighty battle of Ragnarok, he and Balder will be born again. Loki is a master
trickster, who is half giant and half god. He is a friend of Odin and Thor, and the murderer of Balder.
He was considered a friend to all gods, yet some gods only seen Loki as more trouble then he was
worth. Daughter of Loki, Hel the goddess of death, had the lower half of a corpse with putrid flesh and

Theory Of Skyline Queries
Many attempts have been made towards developing optimized algorithms and introduction of several
models for skyline queries. Skyline queries had been studied as the maximum vectors before Borzsony
and colleagues [23] introduced skyline queries for database applications. Various algorithms are
provided for skyline computations, including calculation of the progressive skyline using auxiliary
structures, the nearest neighbor algorithm for processing the skyline query, the branch and bound
skyline (BBS) algorithm, the sort filter skyline (SFS) algorithm that exploits pre arranged lists, and
linear erase sorting (LESS) algorithm for the skyline. Recently, there has been a growing interest in
addressing the problem of large dimensions for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In [28], it is shown that the proposed method is not correct. Sharifzadeh and colleagues [29] have
proposed another version of the method that eliminates the flaws of the previous version, but it is
computationally costly. Other methods for calculating skyline have been suggested as well. A multi
objective optimized process for skyline has been presented based on the genetic algorithm by Özyer et
al. [30]. Fuzzy skyline has been proposed to make the skyline more flexible. In particular, fuzzy
skyline in [31] is considered and a flexible overcome relation is provided. This relationship makes it
possible to extend skyline with points that are not highly dominated by any other points (even if they
are strongly dominated). Yet, other methods arise to improve the skyline. A variety of fuzzy skyline
methods are studied in [32]. In the paper, five incentives are raised to fuzzify the skyline. The first
motivation is to refine the skyline with the introduction of a sequence of points to find the best skyline
points. The second is to make the skyline more flexible. This means that where points conditions are
close to the skyline points, they are also considered as members of the skyline. In the third case, the
skyline can become easier with different methods. For example, by

  • 2. Essay about The 1994 Baseball Strike The 1994 Baseball Strike On August 12, 1994 professional baseball players went on strike for the eighth time in the sports history. Since 1972, negotiations between the union and owners over contract terms has led to major economic problems and the absence of a World Series in 1994. All issues were open for debate due to the expiration of the last contract. Until 1968, no collective bargaining agreement had ever been reached between the owners and the players (Dolan 11). Collective bargaining is the process by which union representatives for employees in a bargaining unit negotiate employment conditions for the entire bargaining unit (Atlantic Unbound). Instead, the players were at the mercy of each owner who possessed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two major issues led directly to the interruption and eventually the cancellation of the entire season. After a 28 0 vote among the owners, they agreed to share revenue on the condition they could get the players to accept a salary cap. The issue of revenue sharing was directly linked to the salary cap. By taking this action, the owners signaled they had come to realize the problem of disparity between big market teams (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago) and small market teams (Seattle, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee). The problem, however, was that because the owners linked their revenue sharing with a salary cap, the players felt they were being asked to solve the owners financial disparity problem. There is a noticeable difference in team payrolls, as displayed in 1993, when the the payroll of the Toronto Blue Jays was $48.4 million, compared with San Diego Padres payroll of only $10.6 million (Layden 17). Therefore, the idea of revenue sharing, wherein big market teams would transfer monies to the small market teams, was a good one, but it caused disputes among the owners as to how the formula would be worked out. Not all of the small market teams were in bad shape financially. In fact, some that had built or were building new stadiums such as Baltimore, Cleveland, and Texas were doing quite well. It was not until June 14, 1994, that the owners finally presented their collective bargaining proposal, 18 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mountaintop Mining Is Bad Mountains, animals, and the environment are what makes Earth beautiful. But horrible things are destroying the Earth s beauty with mountaintop mining being a prime example. Mountaintop mining is horrible because it destroys ecosystems and damages biodiversity over an extreme scale. Aquatic life is literally suffocated by the waste rock thrown into valleys and gorges. For instance, an article by NASA stated that The waste rock from the mountain is dumped into valleys and pollutes water/stream beds, causing a decline in aquatic life. The pollution can create genetic mutations in fish and raises the amount of metal in streams. This affects the wildlife around the streams and humans, too. In fact, the article Bad Rock: How Mountaintop Removal Mining Can Damage Streams says Many streams are buried under tens to hundreds of meters of waste rock. The streams that are buried are home to many different aquatic species, but they are being killed because of the demand for coal. Many streams and animals are being killed, and it s advancing throughout the land. Too many acres of biodiversity has been damaged. For example, NASA made an article that ... • 4. How Does Emily Bronte s Use Of Food In the novel Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte includes the consumption of food, and in certain situations the lack of its consumption to develop the storyline so further progressions are able to occur. Bronte also includes these scenes involving food to provide strong symbolic and thematic qualities to the novel. In the novel, meals are not there to serve the purpose of providing background information to other parts of the narrative, rather they are included so that the characters have the opportunity to reveal a new piece of information or to allow the reader to have deeper insight into how the character is currently feeling in the moment, and where their passion is leading to. These characteristics are evident when Heathcliff decides to starve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bronte suggests the possible reunion of Heathcliff and Catherine by explaining that the local residents believe that they see their apparitions walking around the moors together. For the reader to notice and understand what is occurring because of the involvement of food, they have to pay attention to the tiny details that take place in the plot, setting, and diction that the author uses. The process of eating has the ability to show how characters can overcome internal obstacles and enable the reader to empathize with characters. One of Bronte s goals is to help the reader understand all of the characteristics and various dynamics that take place during the simple, yet in some cases complex act of ... With the influence of mannerism in Renaissance , the composition of the figures intertwine and create not just complex composition but a dynamic three dimensional space. Both of the child have its left leg stepping forward, however, because of the diagonal composition in the Dolci painting and the depth expressed by the diagonal accent, it enhances the three dimensional effect. Dolci s composition is also more unified meaning the subjects form a dynamic composition relationship. There is more variation of postures in the painting and their limbs, accessories are more intertwined. The scene seems more like a happening than a positioned, still portrait. Romano s composition of the space seem to be more layer based and there are less spatial relationships between the figures. Dolci also introduced a new technique by cropping the image of the subjects with a slight highlighted line. This new technique is unique in a way that it restraint the subject in another area than the frame. This enhances the three dimensional effect evermore, giving the illusion as if the viewer would peek into the space inside of the painting, instead of looking directly at the image and associating it with areas outside of the painting such as a frame which naturally limits space and create a barrier between the viewer and the subjects in painting ... My presentation will be on one of the most advancing fields in the world today, engineering, that s kind of vague so I ll narrow it down a bit. Specifically Bio mechanical engineering, or for short Bio mech. What is Bio mech? It is the combination of both biological theories and mechanical engineering principles, which are combined in order to better understand how they can be used to improve the quality of life. I plan to show you today how bio mech as not only impacted my life, but has (or can) impact your lives. Comparing Ron Howard s How the Grinch Stole Christmas to Dr. Seuss Grinch Whether or not you consider Ron Howard s version of Dr Seuss s classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas comical, yet disgraceful, there s no ignoring the little green monster s reign over the box office. The movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey, was released in November of 2000, reaching a gross high of over $200 million in the U.S alone (The Numbers). The worst aspect of the movie is that it makes a mockery of Seuss s main message: Christmas doesn t come from a store. This movie is all about selling, from those furry talking Grinch dolls to endless fast food tie ins. There are many differences between the movie and the original story, one of which is Cindy Lou Who. In the original Grinch she is portrayed as innocent two year old. In the movie however, she is about seven years old, which allows her to be slightly more skeptical about things. Jim Carrey played The Grinch, but when watching this movie it seemed as if The Grinch was playing Jim Carrey. The original cartoon leaves you with much more imagination as to why the Grinch is so mean. Quoting from Dr. Seuss s book: The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season! Now, please don t ask why. No one quite knows the reason. It could be that his head wasn t screwed on quite right. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were to tight. But I think that the most likely reason of all May have been that his heart was two sizes too small. (Seuss). • 11. The Importance Of Extreme Work Extreme work in organisations The main focus of this argument is on how extreme work is moving into everyday organisational domains and why might this be something we should be concerned about. The first question that comes to our mind is; are extreme jobs and extreme work the same subject? Jobs involving the constancy of extreme working, with work spilling over a range of temporal, spatial and social boundaries, refusing containment, as evidenced in the growth of corporate overwork cultures (Bozkurt, 2015) whereas extreme work is work that is being carried out in dangerous, high pressure, unpredictable, risky situations (Bloomfield Dale 2015). Although only extreme jobs are supposed to have extremity in the work place, nowadays even normal jobs have phases in which they have to handle a lot of extreme work. These phases effect the working of the management drastically in many ways, both positively and negatively. The rapid increase of extreme working conditions in normal jobs is a paramount issue, thus the question; why is extreme work moving into our everyday organisational domains hits us. Even in the occupations not known for intense, dirty or risky work tasks, there is a growing sense in which normal workplaces are becoming extreme , especially in relation to work intensity, long hours cultures and the normalizing of extreme work behaviours and cultures (Granter, McCann and Boyle, 2015); like the work of a shopkeeper at Apple, when a new product is launched ... • 12. Definition Of Cultural Romance Definition Often times when people hear the word romance, they think in matters of the cultural definition; this consisting of passionate love, companion love, and infatuation. Cultural romance is a common theme in today s society, and it is often the only form of romance that people today are familiar with or even aware of. However, romance can also be thought of in terms of its dictionary definition. Romance can be described as a specific time period, art style or genre, events, one s imagination, or someone s private escape from the world. It can be demonstrated through many different art forms such as paintings, movies, literary forms such as poetry, and music, all of which was discussed in this class (Romance Theme: Definitions). On specific art piece that depicts the dictionary definition is Francis Danby s painting The Deluge. In this painting, the famous flood that occurs in the book of Genesis of the Old Testament is the center point of the events in this painting. It shows people and animals in the water, struggling against the powerful waves of the storm. They are trying to cling to trees, land, and rocks in order to be saved from the deathly water that surrounds them. In the far distance you can make out the shape of Noah s Arc and a bright red sun. Around 80% of the world s fisheries are being over exploited leading to a devastating impact on aquatic communities as it destabilizes the food chain and destructs the natural habitats of many oceanic communities. Oceans support the livelihood of over 520 million people involved in fishing and fish related activities. Additionally, seafood is a staple diet in many developing countries as it is a rich source of protein. With rising incomes in emerging economies, the global demand for fish is growing rapidly, affecting over 2.6 billion people. Due to the various threats, the overall economic position of many developing countries is under pressure. Jealousy And Discrimination In Shakespeare s Othello People discriminate for many different reasons: terror, jealousy, the desire for power, or a need to dissociate themselves from other people. They can, thus, use someone s skin color (a hereditary trait that cannot be altered) to express their hatred. In Shakespeare s play Othello, Othello, is a happily wedded man and despite his African heritage, is a well respected general in the Venetian army. At the beginning of the play, Othello has not experienced any type of discrimination, as of yet. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... System analysis and design is the scientific method of breaking down a system into its component pieces and studying how well those component parts work and interact to accomplish their main purpose. In essence, this course introduced me to the art of solving problems with the aim of making a person or an organization s work easier and more efficient. In the course of learning, I learnt how system analysis and design employs a four pronged approach to solving these problems; planning, analysis, design and implementation. Mainly the system development life cycle (SDLC) is the process of understanding how information system can support business needs, designing the system, building it, and delivering it to users. In my study of system analysis and design, I have come to appreciate several concepts that I have learnt throughout the course. More than anything else the system analysis is a creative activity. The analyst must frame the whole such that it can be analyzed. The analysis must work with all levels of an organization, data, work progress, gathering information through a host of sources, and somehow shape these into a cogent whole and the rest of the document describes in broad strokes how to frame any system, how to harness these to create the documents necessary for implementing a new plan. A registered nurse spends an average day in the hospital assisting and managing patients with medicine, documenting information, and communicating with supervisors, peers, and subordinates. A registered nurse that specializes in anesthesia, which is a nurse anesthetist, will always be doing specific tasks such as: administering anesthesia to patients before and during surgery and they care for and monitor patients before, during, and after surgery. I would love to become a nurse anesthetist, because I want to be able to help care for others and I want to be in an environment where I am helping patients recover and helping with pain. • 18. William W. Cape Jr. The art of rhetoric comes in many different ways, practices, and ideals, but was ultimately started by the Ancient Greeks and adopted by the later Romans. Robert W. Cape Jr. not only explores the connection between the two, but also analyzes Cicero, an ancient Roman, and his ideology that suggested orators being the best qualified to write and present history correctly, both singularly and through the use of rhetoric. The article Cape published, Persuasive History: Roman Rhetoric and Historiography , analyzes Cicero s main argument of entrusting orators with history s immortality through his interpreted citations, Latin semantics, his affinity to his own intellectual means, and a nonexistent chorus. Historiography, better known as the study of historical writing or the writing of history, is exactly what Cape emphasizes with this article. He has a long, running list of sources that he uses, but a majority of them are an interpretation of some kind. For example, instead of directly sourcing Cicero s De Oratore, Cape cites The Structure of De Oratore from Michel and Verdière instead. By studying the concrete source, especially from ancient times, and the interpretations years after, an author can come to his or her own conclusion and clarification. Because of the time lapse between modern and ancient, primary research is almost always nonexistent, meanwhile secondary research is typically the go to for written history. Hence, authors must use interpretations and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How To Write A Persuasive Essay On Gun Control You may have heard about the recent uproar in regards to gun control, and while many believe that there should be more restrictions on purchasing and owning guns, I m here to tell you why I think that everyone who possesses a Firearms License should be allowed to own firearms and ammunition. According to Gary Johnson, Former Governor of New Mexico, I am in the camp that if you outlaw guns only the criminals are going to have guns. I strongly agree with this quote. According to Ted Cruz, a US Senator, What I think is two things, number one, that restricting the right to keep and bear arms is unconstitutional. The Second Amendment is an integral part of the Bill of Rights. And what it means is, politicians cannot come and strip the guns from law abiding Americans. But, number two, it s misguided policy. If you look at the jurisdictions with the strictest gun control laws, almost without exception, they have the highest crime rates and the highest murder rates. If you look at the jurisdictions that most vigorously protect our right to keep and bear arms, almost without exception, they have the lowest crime rates and the lowest murder rates. Gun control policies don t work. And they re contrary to the Constitution. This quote basically states that the areas that have more gun control are more violent and have a higher crime and murder rates. Whereas the areas with less gun control have a lower crime rate. This quote also states that it s unconstitutional to take away the law abiding citizens guns. In 2001, it was rated 71st in Q Magazine s listing of The 100 Best Album Covers of All Time . Singer Meat Loaf and composer Jim Steinman commissioned the cover artwork from the renowned comic artist Richard Corben, best known for his sci fi and fantasy work. Corben s illustration effectively advertises the album s contents to the target audience as well as creating the beginnings of a visual identity for Meat Loaf . The illustration was designed to fit the size and shape of an album cover measuring 12.375 inches square. The original artwork was painted on a 24 inch square canvas board using oil and acrylic paint. Designing an illustration to fit these precise dimensions can be challenging as you are limited by both size and shape, which restricts the composition. With that, I realized had my theme: a Formal. In college the equivalent to a Prom are Formals. Nevertheless, like a Prom, Formals have many cultural beliefs and values, from tuxedos and dresses to what to eat, and how to dance. Formals are supposed to fun and memorable, and how you and your date choose to make create those memories. As with all rituals, Formals have traditional preparations and symbols that have true cultural beliefs and values. • 24. Self Reliance As Defined By Webster s Dictionary Self reliance, as defined by Webster s Dictionary, is the reliance on one s own efforts and abilities. Emerson expands on that concept in his 1841 essay entitled Self Reliance. For Emerson, self reliance has many different facets. His main point is the importance of embracing individuality. He says, not for nothing one face, one character, one fact, makes much impression on him [man], and another none. It is not with out pre established harmony, this sculpture in the memory (2). This idea of divine predestination is central to his argument for believing in oneself. He asks the reader to trust his or her own thoughts. After all, all great thoughts from all great thinkers were unique to them. The world could not have benefited from Plato, or Luther, or Christ, if they had not trusted their own instincts and believed them true for all mankind. These great men were able to live in the world as in solitude, walking and functioning among others while trusting their own thoughts and accepting the fact that they were often alone in them. Emerson warns against living in the past, repeating the thoughts of others. Instead he would rather one live for oneself in the present, for power ceases in the instant of repose; it resides in the moment of transition from a past to a new state... This one fact the world hates, that the soul becomes; for that forever degrades the past... (26). Emerson does not mislead his readers into thinking self reliance will be easy. • 25. Definitions Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction 1. Using two references and in your words, defines Weapons of Mass Destruction? Weapons of mass destruction might be described as weapon with the capacity to inflict death and destruction on such a massive scale and so indiscriminately that its very presence in the hands of a hostile power can be considered a grievous threat (WMDC, 2006). Most weapons of mass destruction are nuclear, biological, or chemical. The term is a relatively new one, as it first appeared in December 1937 in an address by Archbishop Of Canterbury. Weapons of mass destruction may also include fierce fighting machines such as tanks and atomic missiles. These arms can cause massive damage to physical structures such as buildings, roads, and bridges (Graham Talent, 2008). However, the meaning of the term was quite different from the way it is used in the contemporary international law. Weapons of mass destruction appear in the document signed by Harry Truman in 1945. After that, the term weapons of mass destruction was included in the titular resolution passed by the General Assembly of the United Nations (WMDC, 2006). The essential characteristics of these arms are their ability to cause large scale destruction. There is no single definition of the term large scale destruction . However, it could be assumed that massive destruction is the one that causes injuries or death for a large number of people and the one that destroys vast territories, causing damage to ecology and making it ... In this case I would say that some basic rights of the consumers may have been violated by CitiFinancial because they were not completely up front about the small print that told the true story about the consolidation loans. Other moral philosophies emphasize justice, which requires comparisons of situations of individuals. Justice theories are concerned with how different individuals stand relative to each other on dimensions including, but not limited to, rights, liberties and consequences. The three principal categories of justice theories are distributive, compensatory and retributive. Distributive justice is concerned with providing incentives to contribute to well being in society and with providing a fair and just distribution of the rewards of those contributions. Compensatory justice is concerned with determining how individuals should be compensated for the harm done by others. Retributive justice is concerned with punishment of actions that are contrary to a moral rule or societal well being. A Reflection On The s The Vision Of Happiness It s been said that If the immediate and direct purpose of our life is not suffering then our existence is the most ill adapted to its purpose in the world . Obviously, that person was not Aristotle (unless the entirety of Nichomachean Ethics utilizes a tone of obfuscated sarcasm typically reserved for internet forums or pretentious asides) as he posits happiness as the ultimate human end, and contemplation the best way of achieving it. However, both the vision of happiness he puts forth, as well as the means for achieving it, differ widely from the typical semantics held throughout antiquity and modernity by the listless majority. Although rather than simply explain his thought, I intend to demonstrate how one comes to such conclusions, and so we must return to the initial Germanic dissension. Initially, it seems difficult to argue with such an assertion. Within humanity alone, there exists a constancy of suffering, which resonates with greater magnitude and frequency then any other state of being. As all else decays, human suffering endures with adamant universality, gleaming with such brightness that it outshines all other potential ends (apart from, perhaps, the biological imperatives of preservation and procreation). Yet suffering as an end in itself seems so morbidly facetious that it is overlooked by the willfully ignorant and the optimistically rational alike (and since I am a meritocratic elitist, we might as well focus exclusively on the arguments made by ... He tells of how this allows men to act without judgment, and how Athens is superior then others. 3. The author is not biased, and writes just of Pericles speech. However, the amount of goodwill is subject to a goodwill impairment test at least once per year. The companies have to verify at least once a year if the value of their assets is aligned with the fair value of the market. In both stories, women were expected to keep house, cook, bear and rear children but little more. Moreover, should a woman find work, employers generally discriminated against women by hiring them for menial jobs. Repression in both women may very well have been the reason for their ailments and certainly their deaths Though a weak heart and suicide might be a stretch, as to be caused by ... • 41. An Open Mind As The Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is another Comforter, Teacher, and Reminder. Before Christ went back to Heaven He said that He would not leave us without another Comforter, of which is the Holy Ghost. God the Holy Spirit, God the Father, and God the Son are a Trinity, in Heaven and on this earth. The Comforter indwells us and we are in God and in Jesus. We are in the Trinity. Talk about eternal security, how much more can one be secure than this? Being the Holy Spirit is our Teacher, and the Word of God says He is, then that which is preached should not be readily accepted. One should not build a doctrine on one or two verses of Scripture but should study all verses on the subject with an open mind as the Holy Ghost teaches (II Timothy 2:15),. ... Judgment will be revealed by the Holy Spirit because the prince (ruler) of the world is judged, which is by the power of Christ who judged the old Devil and his kingdom, defeating Satan at the cross. The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth and is most reliable. He is God in the office of the Holy Spirit. He listens, hears, and will communicate and speak to the believer, showing future things, glorifying Christ, and will show you the things of the Father. See John 16:7 15. Much conjecture is found concerning John 20:22. The way I view this verse tells that Jesus breathed on, not in, the disciples, and said Receive ye the Holy Ghost: receiving the Holy Ghost that gave commandments unto them (Acts 1:2). They received the Holy Ghost outwardly as those in the Old Testament did and for particular services till Pentecost, and there dwelt within. In Acts 1:5 they were waiting for a different baptism than that of John s which they had already received. They were to be baptized by the Holy Ghost who would dwell both with them and be in them (John 14:17), and receive the power to equip them to preach the gospel to all nations throughout the world (Acts 1:8). When Pentecost had fully come they received that recorded in Acts chapter two. 63 Acts 2:17,18 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit ... • 43. Should Creationism Be Taught In Public Schools Essay If you walk into a public school science classroom and ask the students what they were taught pertaining to the creation of the universe, most likely the majority of them will talk about the Big Bang theory or the theory of evolution. This has always been a topic of interest that has caused many debates on whether public schools should teach creationism in the classrooms. Creationism is the belief that the universe was created by specific acts of divine creation and is more known as Genesis to the Abrahamic religions. In my opinion creationism is a subject that should be taught alongside of science because it can develop critical thinking skills for the students, it will satisfy the demand of the people, and will fulfill our freedom of speech. Many educators will disagree that creationism should be taught in public schools because they say it is disapproved by science and will be a waste of time since it is religious. Creationism is no more religious than the theory of the Big Bang, if you ask me it takes greater faith to believe that something came out of nothing. The Big Bang theory is ... After spending some time doing research on scientific theories about creation and creationism, I can say that all the theories of creation is no more truthful than creationism, and instead of just teaching scientific theories in the school system, we should push for creationism to be taught as well for the purpose of supplying demand, freedom of speech, and developing critical thinking skills in ... During the period of enslavement, calypsonians appeared to have special control through their songs to influence people around the slave masters. The power of persuasive communication remained the strength of the calypsonian, well after slavery. They were experts in their art form on the communication of political and other relevant messages to the population of Trinidad and Tobago (Lashley, 1982). Sujuan came to America hoping her child will become a prodigy. When Jing mei and Sujuan were watching TV Sujuan saw Shirley Temple, and at first mother thought I could be a Chinese Shirley Temple (Tan 22). Shirley Temple was an American child prodigy. The government does not want us to be scared or alarmed (THE UFO COVER UP). It s a very protective reason for the world to not go into panic and havoc (The UFO COVER UP).Because of the reasonings, this shows that aliens exist. For example. it s like hiding something that you know you ve done wrong but can t hide. Giving new explanations and cover up proving it doesn t exist when all these occurrences have already taken place. There s no way of hiding that the government is just blinding the public from UFO s, making us worry about our own lives, and our own self belief. (The UFO COVER UP). In conclusion, Roswell s incident has been proven that a UFO has crashed near this area. • 48. Theory Of Skyline Queries Many attempts have been made towards developing optimized algorithms and introduction of several models for skyline queries. Skyline queries had been studied as the maximum vectors before Borzsony and colleagues [23] introduced skyline queries for database applications. Various algorithms are provided for skyline computations, including calculation of the progressive skyline using auxiliary structures, the nearest neighbor algorithm for processing the skyline query, the branch and bound skyline (BBS) algorithm, the sort filter skyline (SFS) algorithm that exploits pre arranged lists, and linear erase sorting (LESS) algorithm for the skyline. In [28], it is shown that the proposed method is not correct. Sharifzadeh and colleagues [29] have proposed another version of the method that eliminates the flaws of the previous version, but it is computationally costly. Other methods for calculating skyline have been suggested as well. A multi objective optimized process for skyline has been presented based on the genetic algorithm by Özyer et al. [30]. Fuzzy skyline has been proposed to make the skyline more flexible. In particular, fuzzy skyline in [31] is considered and a flexible overcome relation is provided. This relationship makes it possible to extend skyline with points that are not highly dominated by any other points (even if they are strongly dominated). Yet, other methods arise to improve the skyline. A variety of fuzzy skyline methods are studied in [32]. In the paper, five incentives are raised to fuzzify the skyline. The first motivation is to refine the skyline with the introduction of a sequence of points to find the best skyline points. The second is to make the skyline more flexible. This means that where points conditions are close to the skyline points, they are also considered as members of the skyline. In the third case, the skyline can become easier with different methods. For example, by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
