Visual Languages was a foundation course during winter 2010/2011 by Prof. Danijela Djokic. The course was an introduction to information vizualisation techniques. Using a variety of analogue and digital techniques during the initial phase of the project, students were tasked to develop an individual form of expression and sign language – a visual language. Subsequently students were asked to mould their visual languages into an imaginary time-based software application environment.
Attendance, Truancy, And Success
There have been few rigorous studies on effective approaches to improving student attendance. No single approach works best, and parental intervention tends to be less effective for older students. Personalizing strategies may be more important for engaging older children. School policies should be reasonable, clearly communicated, and distinguish between excused and unexcused absences, with parent notification and home-school contact. Early interventions can include home-school contact and support for struggling students, with fixed homework and bedtime routines.

Bloom’s Taxonomy is frequently used as a guide for evaluating the level of thinking that a student achieves when completing a given learning task. Frequently technology projects that are are completed using high-tech tools are judged to require the highest level of Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy, CREATION, and thus are awarded the stamp of approval that the project possesses a high degree of educational value. But this judgement is misleading. While a student making a movie may be thinking at the CREATE level as they consider what camera angles would be most effective for creating the right mood or what choices will help them achieve the look and feel for their chosen genre of film-making, they may be only considering the content at the remembering and understanding level. Thus, the highly polished and effective movie is evidence that a student is adept at communication using this modality, but the movie itself does not necessarily demonstrate that the subject-matter content was analyzed, synthesized, evaluated, or more importantly that something was created, with regard to content. Students may be simply reproducing information from other sources. If this is the case, students have not achieved the CREATE level, with regard to the subject matter. This presentation will help educators decipher the difference between project-based assignments that require students to create with the content and those that only require students to create new products. We will also present several sure-fire strategies for how to design projects where students CREATE with content.

Still, the devices that power these experiences have yet to coalesce around an optimal user experience, and VR content creation remains nascent. How do we capitalize on the potential of VR? Where do we look to understand this new media paradigm? From Blocks To Robots
Constructionism is a learning theory developed by Seymour Papert that states learning occurs most effectively when people are actively making things, specifically robotic constructions. It builds upon constructivist theories which hold that learning involves actively constructing mental models. Constructionism involves hands-on experimentation using objects to think with in a playful manner. While constructivism explains how knowledge is constructed mentally, constructionism focuses on how external constructions support internal knowledge construction. Constructivist teachers believe learners actively create their own knowledge, while constructionist teachers allow student-led conclusions through creative experimentation rather than teaching directly.
