1) Red wines from France, but not Germany, were found to upregulate expression of the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene in human endothelial cells.
2) Treatment with French red wines increased eNOS mRNA and protein levels, eNOS promoter activity, eNOS mRNA stability, and bioactive NO production in endothelial cells.
3) The increase in eNOS expression and activity brought about by French red wines may contribute to the beneficial cardiovascular effects of moderate red wine consumption.
