2. Red wine is found in abundance in Goa. When you go to a restaurant order a bottle. Don't order the
most expensive one to impress people. The cost is not the most important thing at all.
Even a cheap bottle is good to taste and can be good for you. When I was in Montenegro in Europe
where our ship had gone for dry dock, I used to have glass bottles of red wine that cost just 2 Euros a
piece and they tasted good.

1. Red wine decreases the harmful effect of smoking on the endothelium - layers of cells that provide a
friction-reducing lining in lymph vessels, blood vessels, and the heart.
2. One of the well-known and most studied benefits of red wine is its heart protective effect. Moderate
consumption of red wine on a regular basis may be a preventative against coronary heart disease.
Scientists believe the red wine reduces the risk of coronary heart disease by reducing production of low
density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and boosting high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.
3. Red wine produces anticlotting, or antithrombotic, action. Light to moderate consumers of wine have
lower levels of protein fibrinogen which promotes blood clot formation.
4. Red wine may prevent the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis (hardening or "furring" of the
arteries). Atherosclerosis starts when blood vessels begin to lose their ability to relax. Both the alcohol
and polyphenols in the red wine appear to favorably maintain healthy blood vessels by promoting the
formation of nitric oxide (NO), the key chemical relaxing factor that plays an important role in the
regulation of vascular tone.
5. Two glasses of red wine (250 ml), taken together with a meal, lower post-meal blood pressure in
hypertensive persons.
6. Red wine intake reduces the risk of kidney stone formation.
7. Moderate wine drinking correlates with a lower risk for Alzheimer's disease. Researchers found that
resveratrol, a red wine polyphenol, produces neuroprotective effects.
8. The lowest mortality rates are amongst those who regularly consume one or two drinks a day.
According to studies, teetotalers have higher rates of mortality, while the mortality rate rises rapidly
amongst those who drink three or more drinks a day.
9. Moderate consumption of red wine is believed to lower the risk of breast cancer. However, drinking
more than 1 or 2 alcoholic drinks per day increases the risk of breast cancer in women, so moderation is
key.
10. A glass of red wine per day reduces the risk of lung cancer.
11. Four or more glasses of red wine per week has been shown to reduce men's overall risk of prostate
cancer by 50% and the risk of the most aggressive forms of prostate cancer by 60%.

drinking a glass of red wine before bed may help you sleep. Melatonin is also an anti-oxidant, which
means it also has anti-aging and cancer preventative properties.
