Underage Drinking Habits
Deployments and Stress
Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the U.S. Military has been in a constant state of
conflict. Over the past fourteen years the Military has been deploying young men and women into
hostile environments in an attempt to put an end to worldwide terrorism. The War on Terror has raged
through Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Syria, Libya and much of the Horn of Africa. The
crushing weight of constant deployments has taken its toll on the men and women of the Armed
Forces. Many members have been deployed into direct combat situations where they have been
exposed to unthinkable scenarios. This has directly led to an increase in unhealthy drinking habits
across the military. The Department of Defense has implemented ... Show more content on

There will always be a level of acceptance when it comes to alcohol consumption and military
tradition. The added stress that comes along with military service will always increase the risk of
unhealthy drinking habits across the ranks. With combat operations coming to an end in both Iraqi and
Afghanistan the number of deployment is also coming down. While there may never be a time when
all U.S. Military deployments and combat operations stop, a decrease in the operations tempo should
result in less deployment and combat related stress. This should have a direct positive effect on the
percentage of heavy drinkers in the military. The military is currently headed in the right direction
with an increase in available treatment options and new programs geared at lowering the percentage of
unhealthy drinkers across the ranks. One of the main reasons critics believe the military is failing at
prevention and treatment is because of the negative fallout that may be associated with a person self
identifying in assessments such as the PDHA. The Department of Defense should see positive results
if they can continue to learn from past experiences and use the feedback of their critics to help further
develop programs and campaigns aimed at educating military personnel of the effects unhealthy
drinking habits have on both their personal lives and on the overall military mission. This will result in
lower medical costs

through two distinct platform; UnitedHealthcare and Optum, UNH operates in a highly competitive
market, where it identifies its main competitors as managed health care companies, insurance

A recent update on UnitedHealth Group financial performance suggested that the company has
experienced low Earning Per Share as compared to its peers. UNH share prices on Year to Date (YTD)

Power In Crime And Punishment Crime And Punishment By...
According to Foucault, power does not belong to the individual, but to the system, to the institution. In
his essay on Discipline and Punish, Foucault presents his idea of the panopticon mechanism, a
mechanism in which visibility is a trap. With little importance over the actual individual in the role of
the observer or of the observed, the object of the system is total power over the observed. Due to the
unique shape of the panopticon, there are no corners and thus no blind spots for the observed to hide
in. The private space is replaced by the public one. Furthermore, as final evidence of total control, the
observed never knows for sure if they are being watched or not, as they can t see the observer
(Foucault 200 205). Foucault further argues that this system is followed by any government
institution, placing the society under permanent observation. Individuals might try to evade the
system, but achieving liberation and freedom is not something that anyone could do. Dostoevsky s

Weight Loss In America
Internet Activity #11 Weight loss is a large problem in America, since most Americans are overweight
or obese. There are a number of reasons that losing weight can be a challenge. There are many
possible reasons for people to start dieting, ranging from health reasons to outside influences. There
was a study done on men to see how changing their diet would affect their personalities. During this
study, they were given normal amounts of food while their personalities were studied, then compared
to their personalities when the amount of food was cut in half. The study shows that extreme
emotional agitation occurs when food is withdrawn. The men in the study became less social, and
more obsessed with food. They talked about it more, daydreamt about it more, and even wanted to
learn about cooking. These men also showed signs of depression and anxiety. Although many cheated
during the experiment, they felt guilty about it. After the study was done, some of the men kept in
touch with the researchers. Many of them had newly started to worry about their body shape and size.
After their restricted diets were over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the commercials, shows, and advertisements we see have something to do with weight.
Celebrities are on the front page of a magazine every time they gain a few pounds, and there are
weight loss commercials on during almost every television show. With all of the outside pressure to
tell you to be skinny, people can be easily influenced. However, all of this pressure can be too much,
and dieting and weight loss can go too far. Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia can arise
when people take their weight loss goals too far. People that have these kinds of disorders tend to see
themselves as fat or weighing too much, even if they are severely underweight. A person s mental

What Is The Five Forces Of Nestle
The Industry Environment Analysis
Compared with the general environment, the industry environment has a more direct effect on the firm
s strategic competitiveness and to earn above average returns. The intensity of industry competition
and an industry s profit potential are functions of five forces of competition such as the threat of new
entrants, bargaining power of supplier, bargaining of power buyers, threats of substitute products, and
intensity of rivalry among competitors (Hanson, D., Hitt, M., Ireland, R. D., Hoskisson, R. E., 2011,
p.48). Porter s Five Forces Model was created to act as a framework for industry analysis and business
strategy development. Porter singled out five different forces that impact competitive intensity which
portrays an image of the overall attractiveness and profitability of a market. To aid in my evaluation of

There are close substitutes for Nestlé products which allows for the preferences of the customer to be
very influential. Nestlé understands the power of the customer and has taken specific steps to meet the

creation of its products as society has started becoming more health conscious.
Threat of Substitute Products
Due to the nature of the industry, Nestlé is afflicted with the threat of substitute goods. Ranging from
ice cream, frozen foods and confectionaries to pet food, there are arrays of similar products that
compete directly with Nestlé. It is vital for Nestlé to continuously find new ways to improve its
products and generate new sources of growth for the company s future expansion because competition
is so violent. In recent years, Nestlé has focused on the health and wellness aspects of its products to

Money Laundering Act 2002
B. Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002
(PMLA) was enacted to safeguard against those acts of persons which are aimed at making tainted
money appear as untainted. To take a simple example, if a person earns money through, say, dealing in
narcotic drugs and thereafter takes some steps whereby it appears to have been earned through some
legitimate business, such as running a laundry shop (the classic example), it is money laundering .
Thus, the ingredients of the Act are clear: there has to be an offence, monies have to be earned through
such offence and then an act should be made delinking such earnings from the offence and linking it
with another act that is not an offence . Relevant Provisions

Why Were The Bolsheviks Successful In Seizing Power
Why were the Bolsheviks successful in seizing power? What were the forces and actions that made
them successful in seizing power in October/November 1917?
Prior to the 1917 Revolutions, there was constant unsettlement within Russia; there was a struggle for
food, a struggle for economic control and a struggle for a stable government. The February Revolution
brought an end to Tsar Nicholas II reign and emerged was a Provisional Government based on
democratic ideals. Despite the Provisional Government s success in implementing civil liberties, the
Duma kept Russia in the First World War which not only continued the depletion of natural resources,
but also heightened the discontent from citizens among all social classes. The Kulaks fought for land
ownership and fought against conscription while the nobles and aristocracy desired to re establish the
Monarchy. In October to November, the Bolsheviks Communist Party, led by Lenin, overthrew the

York; Oxford: Oxford University Press; 2016.
Abina Mansah: An Overlooked History Abina Mansah, like many other women in her time, was a
young Akan woman who was wrongfully enslaved by her captors. Although slavery was made illegal
in 1875, many important men continued to seize youthful slaves female ones in particular, because
they were less likely to run away and seek liberation. Despite this, Abina refused to be a slave under
the authority of her master, Quamina Eddoo. With the help of court interpreter James Davis, she
attempted to force the court system to hear her voice. Young enslaved women like Abina are often
talked about in history, but never the ones to write historical documents themselves. Their voices are
hidden beneath the voices of important men, and this left women like Abina frustrated and angry. As a
student of the history of gender, Abina s story and her initiative to challenge the authority others had
over her shows us the importance of being heard, and how young women s expressions are often
disregarded and deemed less significant than those of important men.
The first element of Abina s story that depicts Abina s desire to be heard and how her voice was buried
under an Important Man s was the case in court. Quamina Eddoo, Abina s master who had purchased
her from Yaw Awoah, was a powerful and

American Settlers Vs Indians
One colony should be particularly noticed, Pennsylvania, for how unusually good they were to the
indigenous population of America: William Penn openly admitted for the Indians the right to land
ownership.
While Penn led the colony, Pennsylvanians lived in peace with the indigenous population. Some
Indians, such as the Tuscarora and Shawnee, even resorted to Pennsylvania to settle conflicts with
other, more militant colonies. Penn believed that white settlers should pay compensation to the Indians
of their ancestral lands. His government regulated other relationships with Indian tribes, including
commercial. Unfortunately, when Penn left his post in the colony, an influx of European immigrants
practiced violent measures against indigenous inhabitants.

Shape memory alloys (SMA) have attracted much attention in recent years, since they are smart (or
intelligent) materials, as well as functional materials, which already exist. These alloys possess the
characteristics of the shape memory effect (SME) and super elasticity (SE) which are caused by the
martensitic (or displacive) transformation (MT) and its reverse transformation to the parent austenite
phase; we define the characteristic transformation temperatures as follows; Ms: martensite start
temperature upon cooling; Mf: martensite finish

Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is an excellent novel, written by James Joyce, about the life of
Stephen Dedalus and how he overcame the barriers of his family and his religion to pursue his life as a
writer. Drawing on details based on his own early life, Joyce provides us with insight into how his
own imagination worked (Gose, 267). Extensive use of stream of consciousness, which represent the
character s inner thoughts and perceptions, and like human thoughts jumping from one thought to the
next, oftentimes make Portrait a hard reading. This is however intentional as Joyce wants his readers
to be obliged to re create his own space in the inner universe of the text, to participate in a sort of
intransitive discourse, one that bears no fixed meaning in relation to external reality which tends, in
fact, to destroy referentiality and with it, the readers sense of balance (Sabatini, 95). Joyce wants his
readers to experience Stephen s inner thoughts starting from a young age, and to see the world from
his perspective. Once upon a time and a very good time it was there was a moocow coming along the
road and this moocow that was coming down along the road met a nicens little boy named baby
tuckoo.... (Joyce, 5). Joyce s Portrait, his introduction to Stephen, his introduction to himself begins
with a story, expressing just how important art is in Joyce s life, and in a way, in Stephen s life.
Stephen is just a small boy then to whom his father is reading a children s

Magwitch Character Analysis
rightfully afraid of any man bearing the appearance of Magwitch and one who threatens to eat you.
Pip s character, for the most part at the beginning of the novel, is replete with fear and cowardice. At
the same time, one might say that these characteristics are the result of his exposure to certain
overbearing and threatening persons. Of course this is seen with Magwitch but more so in the presence
of Pip s sister, Mrs. Joe Gargery. She boasts that she has brought me [Pip] up by hand (Dickens 6).
Her character is so sour during the first few chapters of the book and her display of brutality toward
Pip and Joe is such that gives us reason not to pity Mrs. Joe but to pity Joe and Pip. She is described as
not a good looking woman and having a habit of going on the Ram page (Dickens 6 7). Furthermore,
Pip describes her doing things in a very violent way; e.g. a trenchant way of cutting our bread and
butter , her housekeeping of the strictest kind , among many other violent and abusive examples
(Dickens 8). Therefore one might say that Pip s character is justified. However, there is a ray of hope
of some kind of bravery in Pip. Pip promised Magwitch he would get him food and a file; Pip does
fulfill his promise, despite the threats of Mrs. Joe, and therefore shows some good heroic qualities of
honesty and bravery in the midst of threats. Although coercion and the threat of death spur such
actions, these characteristics are there in Pip. Pip is more or less a puny,

Joseph Campbell Hero Monomyth
Life is a precious gift, as you only get one chance to become your best self. In life everyone has hopes
and dreams to find their calling to potentially make a difference in the world. In literature we are
presented with an abundance of epic hero stories, referring to fictional or non fictional characters that
have made a difference in their world. These characters grant the reader with entertaining stories
pertaining to historical or fictional events that reflect the hero s journey to making a triumphant
change. Joseph Campbell s theory that every hero has a similar journey to becoming their best self
commences with a call to an adventure. The call to adventure is the first and most important step in
Joseph Campbell s hero monomyth, A hero with a Thousand Faces. Although epic hero s either
fictional or non fictional have similar journeys while becoming a hero, each character has distinct
characteristics that present divergent outcomes. Two of the most evident characteristics that come to
mind when thinking of a hero is bravery and strength. Amongst Gilgamesh, Beowulf, Luke
Skywalker, Sunjata, and Rostam they re all brave strong men with their own traits that shape them into
heroes. All five of these men s lives begin in an ordinary world when they receive a call to an
adventure. Each hero has the choice to either refuse or accept the journey that they have been called
upon. In The Hero With A Thousand Faces, Campbell s gives an example of how the call to adventure

Alliteration In Hard Rock Returns To Prison
Knight s experience in life lends a unique hand about his work that makes it worthwhile. His
experienced a lack of education, yet he rises to become a great poet. He was surrounded by dying in
the war, but drugs resurrected him. His hope died in 1960 when he received a prison sentence, but,
poetry brought him back to life. Even in his words about himself describing himself as poetic, the
author uses various techniques to bring Hard Rock Returns to Prison alive. One of the methods he
uses in writing is alliteration, by using the repetition of Hard Rock s name throughout the poem,
persuading the reader not to forget, about the mistreatment of a human being, almost to the point of
having to remember that Hard Rock was indeed a prisoner. Imagery was another device used in
Knight s writing. He uses the image of a stallion preparing to be let loose from a cage only to find the
stallion is already free. He uses the first person as the main speaker of the narrative as the other
prisoners who admired the hero/prisoner. As well as, jargon used by the black prisoners, for instance,
Hard Rock! Man, that s one crazy nigger. (p.261) Although Knight s mood in the piece is grim, he still
adds a humorous side to the poem, for example, The testing came, to see if Hard Rock was tame/A
hillbilly called him a black son of a bitch/And didn t lose his teeth, a screw who knew Hard
Rock/From before shook him down and barked in his face/And Hard Rock did nothing/ Just grinned

The Maltreatment Of Children During The 21st Century
The maltreatment of children in the 21st century is a very major issue. Due to maltreatment, children
are running away from home, being trafficked into the sex business, and sometimes, lose their life due
to a lack of parental supervision and/or loved ones who care about their well being. Through
volunteering at a missing children s program with Sam s Club, I ve learned first hand just how
detrimental maltreatment in our society can be and how we must do everything in our power to
prevent children from being exposed to maltreatment, provide them with safe and loving
environments, and finally, do all we can to rescue and children that are taken or trafficked and place
them in safe environments. In this paper, there will be an exploration of maltreatment of children,
including statistics of children who go missing and types of maltreatment, specifically sex trafficking,
measures used to find missing children, and finally, what happens to children who go missing, their
professions, lifestyles, and quality of life. Child maltreatment is essentially a synonym for child abuse,
which is the abuse or neglect or any act or series of acts, regardless of commission or omission by a
caregiver, which can result in the harm or threat of a child s life. Child maltreatment is one of the
leading reasons why children go missing. These instances of maltreatment are very much the reason
why in 2015, there were 13,700 kids to go missing and over 4.4 million cases of children being
exploited,

Complexities Of Image And Text Relations
Complexities of Image and Text Relations Illustration is a popular aspect in literature, and can be
found in all genres and forms. Although it is sometimes more heavily associated with children s books
such as illustrated stories, there are large amounts of illustrated work that are designed specifically for
an adult audience. Images and text both convey meaning, but they can also compete with one another.
Image and text can work to guide the reader on a desired path of understanding, or they can
complement each other and allow for a greater understanding. There are a lot of examples of image
and text working together, but the medium can be very different. From statues and sculptures with text
engraving, paintings inspired by text (or vice versa), prose and verse and illustrations, this relationship
is seen regularly in the Romantic Era. This relationship between images and text can be quite
complex. Although the use of text and image complement each other and create a deeper
understanding and meaning, an image can work to suggest a way of reading a text, therefore limiting
the imagination of the reader, and insinuate a certain understanding of a text/story that the
reader/viewer may not have come to on their own. In order to understand how text and image work in
unison to create meaning, it will be beneficial to look at Lacan s Theory of Meaning . Victorino Tejera
explains that a Lacanian approach to reading puts the work of art, not the critic, in a position
analogous

Iago As A Foil Character In Shakespeare s Othello
Iago is introduced in the first scene of the play as a foil character or one who is not the main
antagonist, but a character who is against the protagonist, Othello, but throughout Othello the readers
see how quickly Iago becomes one of Shakespeare s worst villains compared with the likes of Satan.
Iago indirectly kills Desdemona, Othello, and Roderigo. Each character in Othello believes that Iago is
a benevolent and kind person, Honest Iago, and is impervious to his actions that destroys Desdemona
and Othello s life. The question remains: is Iago pure evil? According to the Merriam Webster

He is able to manipulate innocent characters all through the plays. An example is one of Iago s

about how he is always able to get money out of fools , and continues on calling Roderigo an idiot and
his only purpose for him is to get his money. (I.iii.374) Iago continues to allure Roderigo with false
hopes and promises for Iago s own gain. When Roderigo questions Iago, he continues to do Iago s

The Role of Class in Evelina Essay
The Role of Class in Evelina
What is the definition of class ? Burney expresses how class is viewed in the eighteenth century
society through the novel Evelina. In the novel, Burney exposes to the reader different classes of
characters from the aristocrats to the merchants to the commoners and to the prostitutes. Burney also
reveals how different character defines the word class. Madame Duval thinks money and material are
sufficient qualifications to belong to the high society. Mrs. Beaumont believes that a person s class is
set by birth; the social class one is born into defines one s social status. However, Burney seems to
disagree with both of the characters. Through the character of the heroine Evelina, Burney ... Show

He takes his revenge on Evelina as he abashes her in public and accuses her of being ill mannered.
Behind her back, he destroys her reputation by calling her a country nobody (pg35). Upon another

as a companion to Miss Mirvan. Being vicious as he is, He believes that by establish the commonality
of Evelina s social status, she will not be able to be accepted by the elite social class. Not only did
Burney point out the importance of social ranking, she, at the same time, exhibits the ill nature of
those who make use of such information regarding other peoples status to their advantage.
Burney seems to be criticizing the double standard treatment of people who lacks class and those who
has high status. She disapproves the conduct of people in the novel who have the characteristic that
appears to be changing with the tide. Mrs. Beaumont s character is satirically described as the absolute
Court Calendar bigot. (pg. 284) Her idea of class is illustrated by her belief that birth is virtue. Her
previous association with Evelina let her to believe that Evelina is a woman of quality. However, she
is soon disappointed to find out that Evelina is a mere country gentlewoman (pg284). Similarly, Lady

Black Man Stereotypes
Is it correct to judge a book by its cover? For centuries people have been judged by their gender,
appearance, and even their skin color, taking away the opportunity to express or to identify themselves
to the society and the world. Due to this, stereotypes of people were created, leaving them defenseless
to the merciless claws of society. In the reading Just Walk On By: A Black Man Ponders His Power to
Alter Public Space , Brent Staples shows how the stereotype designated to the black men cause
discrimination, problems in society and false accusations. Throughout the article we can identify and

Competitive Tactic Of Walmart
WALMART
The ultimate way to define itself in a competitive market, a corporation must have a competitive tactic
to survive. A competitive tactic is a tool that the firm can use to compete with rivals and succeed
eventually. Examples of competitive tactics are price leaders, product differentiation, price and
differentiation focus, timing tactics, and market location tactics (Mitchell, n.d.). Today this essay will
analyze the competitive tactic of Wal Mart Stores Inc., the retail giant of America. Furthermore, a
SWOT analysis will be performed on the company to understand its internal and external
environment, and finally a new competitive tactic that it should attempt will be formulated.
Wal Mart Stores Inc., created by the business tycoon Sam Walton, is a giant corporation providing
retail services to the American population. From hypermarkets, to regular grocery stores, Wal Mart
has been able to open its doors to even the remotest location in USA. With many competitors lagging
behind such as Target, Alders, Kmart, and Costco, Wal Mart has been able to maintain the lead in the
retail market. As a matter of fact, as a competitive tactic, Wal Mart focuses on maintaining lower
prices with their motto being Everyday Low Prices .
Wal Mart has been able to maintain a price leadership strategy due to the vastness of the corporation.
It is said that within a 15 miles range, there must be a Wal Mart for almost every customer in USA
(Walmart, n.d.). With around 4,700 stores in USA alone, it has been able to become the routine
shopping place of numerous households. Since the very beginning, Wal Mart adopted the low price
leadership strategy and gradually started making profit based on the volume of sales (Hyde R., n.d.).
From tires to electronics, Wal Mart Supercenters are premises selling almost everything and in great
varieties. After having been able to capture a vast number of customers and leading as a retailer with
suppliers relying on Wal Mart for more than 20% of their sale, it started leveraging its bargaining
power against suppliers and pressuring them to keep lowering their prices. They are reputed in
minimizing overhead and cost, especially when it comes to employees wages and utilities (Hyde R.,

The Arkenstone In J. R. Tolkien s The Lord Of The Rings
The Arkenstone
It was a globe with a thousand facets; it shone like silver in the firelight, like water in the sun, like
snow under the stars, like rain upon the Moon! (Tolkien 268). Another important symbol in The
Hobbit is the Arkenstone. The Arkenstone is not only the spiritual meaning of the quest but also a
symbol of greed, power, and the history of the dwarves.
The Arkenstone is a large part of the Durin s race of dwarves history. Discovered in the heart of the
mountain under the reign of Thrain I, a very distant ancestor of Thorin Oakenshield. The gem then got
its name, the Arkenstone, from an ancient word meaning precious stone. The jewel has since been
passed down from heir to heir of the Kingdom that is Erebor. The gem has been a crucial part of the
dwarves history for generations. When thinking of one object that represents Durin s race one thinks
of the Arkenstone.

All his wealth attracted the evil dragon that is Smaug to take it. From that point on the stone became
so desirable that many wanted to own it and would often be blinded by their want and risking the lives
of themselves and many others. Just as Thorin did with the whole adventure. He risked the lives of
every dwarf and Bilbo just so he could call the Arkenstone his. When one really thinks about the
original plan for the quest, one would see how it was near impossible. How could a company of
thirteen dwarves and a hobbit possibly slay a dragon without help? This however did not cross Thorin
s mind for he was blinded by his own want to acquire the jewel. Bilbo was also affected by the
Arkenstone. Although knowing that Thorin wanted the stone for himself and that his main quest was
to retrieve it for him, Bilbo kept the stone for himself. The Arkenstone has many stories of it driving
dwarves mad with greed and I think it only suitable to say that it is in fact a symbol of

Playground Movement In The 1890s
The hallmark of the progressive approach was a compulsion to do research, to identify and articulate
problems before decoupling solutions. (pg10) This quote illustrates the importance progressives put on
using scientific data to come up with policies and legislation. This approach was taken to study the
lives of the poor and coming up with programs to assist them. A popular target of research were the
newsboys. These were children handing out newspapers in the streets. They were a symbol of the
denial of right to childhood, a phrase coined by Florence Kelly in 1905. (pg13) But the media shined a
positive light on newsboys. Reformers had trouble convincing people that these were actually child
laborers.(pg11) We see another example that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most reform schools failed to changed problematic behaviors of youths. But the more wealthy and
influential families in Chicago sought to do something about this problem to gain the loyalty of the
poor families. These families feared doing nothing will only bring social unrest which will ultimately
undermine their authority. From this, reformers such as Julia Lathrop, Jane Adams, and Lucy Flower
emerged to push a juvenile justice system. The injustice of the current court system was that children
charged with a crime during this period were put on trial on the same platform as adults. Through the
efforts by these reformers, the first juvenile court law in the US separating youths and adults was
established. The Illinois law, passed in 1899 established a juvenile court that would hear cases of
delinquency, dependency, and neglect of youths. The court had the power to place children in
orphanages or foster home, place them on probation, or to institutionalize them. The juvenile court
idea soon spread to ten other states within the next ten years.

The Culture Of Aboriginal Australians
Demolishing the Culture of Aboriginal Australians In Australia before the late eighteenth century, the
native Aboriginal people s unique culture flourished, fostering a great sense of pride within its
inhabitants. The Aborigines were able to familiarize themselves with their geographical surroundings,
which in turn helped them to obtain food, while simultaneously upholding their many traditional
spiritual and ancestral beliefs. Many native songs, dances, and collections of art were referenced by
the Aborigines in their Dreamtime , a collection of cultural stories that connected the spiritual world to
their modern world and its creation. These stories conveyed the importance of treating nature with
respect, a view that starkly contrasted with European philosophy. The Aboriginal people thrived in the
terrain of Australia for nearly 40,000 years before British colonization in 1788. Many distinct tribes
lived throughout Australia, and the Aboriginal population peaked at 500,000 people in the 1780 s
during the pre colonization era. During the early stages of their colonization of Australia, European
forces did not intend to harm the Aboriginals, but due to Europe s unrelenting racism and Social
Darwinism, the Aboriginal culture was eventually obliterated. During their first European explorations
of the Australian Continent, Captains Willem Jansz, James Cook, and Arthur Phillip had no intention
of obstructing the Aboriginal peoples way of life. In 1606, Dutch fleets led by

The Culture Of England At Fresno State
About the Culture of England
While walking throughout the halls at Fresno State, one may not realize the diversity of culture among
the student body. There are many international students that attend Fresno State, and it is more
common than students may think. I had the opportunity to interview one of these international
students, who traveled very far from her home country in order to attend school in the United States.
Esme Gullick, who came to Fresno State in order to pursue her dream of swimming, is now a member
of the Fresno State Swim Team, and has traveled 5,245 miles from her hometown of Weston Super
Mare, England. England is located within the United Kingdom, and is also referred to as Great Britain.

Interview with Esme Esme is currently 20 years old, and moved to the United States when she was 18.
She was born and raised in the coastal town of Super Mare, England, and described her hometown as
small and old fashioned. She said that England looks nothing like California because of all the rain,
and would compare better to Oregon, because of all the green. She also said that everything in
England is a lot smaller and cramped than in the U.S., including the roads and the buildings. When she
came to the United States, she was looking for the opportunity to compete and train at a competitive
level, while still being able to get her degree. She chose Fresno State because of the high standard that
is held for student athletes and she wanted to be challenged. Although this does not tie into the culture
of England, it does tie into her view of the United States. She viewed the United States as a better
opportunity, with better education and more competitive athletics. When I first sat down to speak with
Esme, the first thing I noticed was her accent. The primary language of England is English, however
she pronounced certain words differently than we do in the United States. One thing that is unique
about England is its pride in their Royal Kingdom. According to Esme, many holidays revolve around
the Royal Family. This includes recent events like the Royal Wedding and the births of the

Biblical Worldview Of Humanity
In this paper I will be comparing the biblical worldview with a non biblical worldview in regards to
humanity. A biblical worldview foundation is Christ and not us perceiving the world. The biblical
worldview is based in our beliefs and seeing the world through Christ s eyes. I will explain different
theories of humanity along with the biblical worldview of humanity. I will provide you with a
Christian understanding of humanity but I will also show differences and similarities to other
interpretations of humanity. The first alternative theory I want to speak about is the Animal Theory.
The animal theory says that the human primarily as a member of the animal kingdom and derived
from some of its higher forms. (Erickson, 2015) This view says that we have and will go through the
same sort of processes as other animals. It mentions that there is only a one degree difference between
animals and us and we will have a similar end. We are not animals because the word of God says Let
Us make man in Our image, according to our likeness. (Genesis 1:26, New American Standard Bible)
If we look at this verse God mentions that we are made on His image. Many argue that the image of
God doesn t necessarily mean that we look like Him physically, but that we carry many of His
qualities like having dominion over animals. But, if we look into this verse God mentions that He has
allowed men to have dominion over animals, an Ape is an animal. Let them rule over the fish of the
sea and over

  • 2. Underage Drinking Habits Deployments and Stress Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the U.S. Military has been in a constant state of conflict. Over the past fourteen years the Military has been deploying young men and women into hostile environments in an attempt to put an end to worldwide terrorism. The War on Terror has raged through Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Syria, Libya and much of the Horn of Africa. The crushing weight of constant deployments has taken its toll on the men and women of the Armed Forces. Many members have been deployed into direct combat situations where they have been exposed to unthinkable scenarios. This has directly led to an increase in unhealthy drinking habits across the military. The Department of Defense has implemented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There will always be a level of acceptance when it comes to alcohol consumption and military tradition. The added stress that comes along with military service will always increase the risk of unhealthy drinking habits across the ranks. With combat operations coming to an end in both Iraqi and Afghanistan the number of deployment is also coming down. While there may never be a time when all U.S. Military deployments and combat operations stop, a decrease in the operations tempo should result in less deployment and combat related stress. This should have a direct positive effect on the percentage of heavy drinkers in the military. The military is currently headed in the right direction with an increase in available treatment options and new programs geared at lowering the percentage of unhealthy drinkers across the ranks. One of the main reasons critics believe the military is failing at prevention and treatment is because of the negative fallout that may be associated with a person self identifying in assessments such as the PDHA. The Department of Defense should see positive results if they can continue to learn from past experiences and use the feedback of their critics to help further develop programs and campaigns aimed at educating military personnel of the effects unhealthy drinking habits have on both their personal lives and on the overall military mission. This will result in lower medical costs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A recent update on UnitedHealth Group financial performance suggested that the company has experienced low Earning Per Share as compared to its peers. UNH share prices on Year to Date (YTD) basis keeps fluctuating for the past 52 weeks indicate the company is struggling to maintain its position as the nation s largest insurance industry, especially after the mergers of four other key competitors in the insurance market. • 4. Power In Crime And Punishment Crime And Punishment By... According to Foucault, power does not belong to the individual, but to the system, to the institution. In his essay on Discipline and Punish, Foucault presents his idea of the panopticon mechanism, a mechanism in which visibility is a trap. With little importance over the actual individual in the role of the observer or of the observed, the object of the system is total power over the observed. Due to the unique shape of the panopticon, there are no corners and thus no blind spots for the observed to hide in. The private space is replaced by the public one. Furthermore, as final evidence of total control, the observed never knows for sure if they are being watched or not, as they can t see the observer (Foucault 200 205). Foucault further argues that this system is followed by any government institution, placing the society under permanent observation. Individuals might try to evade the system, but achieving liberation and freedom is not something that anyone could do. Dostoevsky s famous novel, Crime and ... • 5. Weight Loss In America Internet Activity #11 Weight loss is a large problem in America, since most Americans are overweight or obese. There are a number of reasons that losing weight can be a challenge. There are many possible reasons for people to start dieting, ranging from health reasons to outside influences. There was a study done on men to see how changing their diet would affect their personalities. During this study, they were given normal amounts of food while their personalities were studied, then compared to their personalities when the amount of food was cut in half. The study shows that extreme emotional agitation occurs when food is withdrawn. The men in the study became less social, and more obsessed with food. They talked about it more, daydreamt about it more, and even wanted to learn about cooking. These men also showed signs of depression and anxiety. Although many cheated during the experiment, they felt guilty about it. After the study was done, some of the men kept in touch with the researchers. Many of them had newly started to worry about their body shape and size. After their restricted diets were over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the commercials, shows, and advertisements we see have something to do with weight. Celebrities are on the front page of a magazine every time they gain a few pounds, and there are weight loss commercials on during almost every television show. Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia can arise when people take their weight loss goals too far. People that have these kinds of disorders tend to see themselves as fat or weighing too much, even if they are severely underweight. What Is The Five Forces Of Nestle The Industry Environment Analysis Compared with the general environment, the industry environment has a more direct effect on the firm s strategic competitiveness and to earn above average returns. The intensity of industry competition and an industry s profit potential are functions of five forces of competition such as the threat of new entrants, bargaining power of supplier, bargaining of power buyers, threats of substitute products, and intensity of rivalry among competitors (Hanson, D., Hitt, M., Ireland, R. D., Hoskisson, R. E., 2011, p.48). Porter s Five Forces Model was created to act as a framework for industry analysis and business strategy development. Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) was enacted to safeguard against those acts of persons which are aimed at making tainted money appear as untainted. To take a simple example, if a person earns money through, say, dealing in narcotic drugs and thereafter takes some steps whereby it appears to have been earned through some legitimate business, such as running a laundry shop (the classic example), it is money laundering . What were the forces and actions that made them successful in seizing power in October/November 1917? Prior to the 1917 Revolutions, there was constant unsettlement within Russia; there was a struggle for food, a struggle for economic control and a struggle for a stable government. The February Revolution brought an end to Tsar Nicholas II reign and emerged was a Provisional Government based on democratic ideals. Despite the Provisional Government s success in implementing civil liberties, the Duma kept Russia in the First World War which not only continued the depletion of natural resources, but also heightened the discontent from citizens among all social classes. The Kulaks fought for land ownership and fought against conscription while the nobles and aristocracy desired to re establish the Monarchy. As a result from the affair, Russian citizens, especially those from the working and middle classes, did not see a red army, but rather, they decided to put their faith in a political party with the ability to fight against injustice. New York; Oxford: Oxford University Press; 2016. Abina Mansah: An Overlooked History Abina Mansah, like many other women in her time, was a young Akan woman who was wrongfully enslaved by her captors. Although slavery was made illegal in 1875, many important men continued to seize youthful slaves female ones in particular, because they were less likely to run away and seek liberation. Despite this, Abina refused to be a slave under the authority of her master, Quamina Eddoo. With the help of court interpreter James Davis, she attempted to force the court system to hear her voice. Young enslaved women like Abina are often talked about in history, but never the ones to write historical documents themselves. Their voices are hidden beneath the voices of important men, and this left women like Abina frustrated and angry. As a student of the history of gender, Abina s story and her initiative to challenge the authority others had over her shows us the importance of being heard, and how young women s expressions are often disregarded and deemed less significant than those of important men. The first element of Abina s story that depicts Abina s desire to be heard and how her voice was buried under an Important Man s was the case in court. American Settlers Vs Indians One colony should be particularly noticed, Pennsylvania, for how unusually good they were to the indigenous population of America: William Penn openly admitted for the Indians the right to land ownership. While Penn led the colony, Pennsylvanians lived in peace with the indigenous population. Some Indians, such as the Tuscarora and Shawnee, even resorted to Pennsylvania to settle conflicts with other, more militant colonies. Penn believed that white settlers should pay compensation to the Indians of their ancestral lands. His government regulated other relationships with Indian tribes, including commercial. • 13. Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is an excellent novel, written by James Joyce, about the life of Stephen Dedalus and how he overcame the barriers of his family and his religion to pursue his life as a writer. Drawing on details based on his own early life, Joyce provides us with insight into how his own imagination worked (Gose, 267). Extensive use of stream of consciousness, which represent the character s inner thoughts and perceptions, and like human thoughts jumping from one thought to the next, oftentimes make Portrait a hard reading. This is however intentional as Joyce wants his readers to be obliged to re create his own space in the inner universe of the text, to participate in a sort of intransitive discourse, one that bears no fixed meaning in relation to external reality which tends, in fact, to destroy referentiality and with it, the readers sense of balance (Sabatini, 95). Joyce wants his readers to experience Stephen s inner thoughts starting from a young age, and to see the world from his perspective. Once upon a time and a very good time it was there was a moocow coming along the road and this moocow that was coming down along the road met a nicens little boy named baby tuckoo.... (Joyce, 5). Joyce s Portrait, his introduction to Stephen, his introduction to himself begins with a story, expressing just how important art is in Joyce s life, and in a way, in Stephen s life. Stephen is just a small boy then to whom his father is reading a children s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pip s character, for the most part at the beginning of the novel, is replete with fear and cowardice. At the same time, one might say that these characteristics are the result of his exposure to certain overbearing and threatening persons. Of course this is seen with Magwitch but more so in the presence of Pip s sister, Mrs. Joe Gargery. She boasts that she has brought me [Pip] up by hand (Dickens 6). Her character is so sour during the first few chapters of the book and her display of brutality toward Pip and Joe is such that gives us reason not to pity Mrs. Joe but to pity Joe and Pip. She is described as not a good looking woman and having a habit of going on the Ram page (Dickens 6 7). Furthermore, Pip describes her doing things in a very violent way; e.g. a trenchant way of cutting our bread and butter , her housekeeping of the strictest kind , among many other violent and abusive examples (Dickens 8). Therefore one might say that Pip s character is justified. However, there is a ray of hope of some kind of bravery in Pip. Pip promised Magwitch he would get him food and a file; Pip does fulfill his promise, despite the threats of Mrs. Joe, and therefore shows some good heroic qualities of honesty and bravery in the midst of threats. Although coercion and the threat of death spur such actions, these characteristics are there in Pip. Pip is more or less a puny, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In life everyone has hopes and dreams to find their calling to potentially make a difference in the world. In literature we are presented with an abundance of epic hero stories, referring to fictional or non fictional characters that have made a difference in their world. These characters grant the reader with entertaining stories pertaining to historical or fictional events that reflect the hero s journey to making a triumphant change. Joseph Campbell s theory that every hero has a similar journey to becoming their best self commences with a call to an adventure. The call to adventure is the first and most important step in Joseph Campbell s hero monomyth, A hero with a Thousand Faces. Although epic hero s either fictional or non fictional have similar journeys while becoming a hero, each character has distinct characteristics that present divergent outcomes. Two of the most evident characteristics that come to mind when thinking of a hero is bravery and strength. Amongst Gilgamesh, Beowulf, Luke Skywalker, Sunjata, and Rostam they re all brave strong men with their own traits that shape them into heroes. All five of these men s lives begin in an ordinary world when they receive a call to an adventure. Each hero has the choice to either refuse or accept the journey that they have been called upon. • 18. Alliteration In Hard Rock Returns To Prison Knight s experience in life lends a unique hand about his work that makes it worthwhile. His experienced a lack of education, yet he rises to become a great poet. He was surrounded by dying in the war, but drugs resurrected him. His hope died in 1960 when he received a prison sentence, but, poetry brought him back to life. Even in his words about himself describing himself as poetic, the author uses various techniques to bring Hard Rock Returns to Prison alive. One of the methods he uses in writing is alliteration, by using the repetition of Hard Rock s name throughout the poem, persuading the reader not to forget, about the mistreatment of a human being, almost to the point of having to remember that Hard Rock was indeed a prisoner. Imagery was another device used in Knight s writing. He uses the image of a stallion preparing to be let loose from a cage only to find the stallion is already free. He uses the first person as the main speaker of the narrative as the other prisoners who admired the hero/prisoner. As well as, jargon used by the black prisoners, for instance, Hard Rock! Man, that s one crazy nigger. (p.261) Although Knight s mood in the piece is grim, he still adds a humorous side to the poem, for example, The testing came, to see if Hard Rock was tame/A hillbilly called him a black son of a bitch/And didn t lose his teeth, a screw who knew Hard Rock/From before shook him down and barked in his face/And Hard Rock did nothing/ Just grinned and looked ... Due to maltreatment, children are running away from home, being trafficked into the sex business, and sometimes, lose their life due to a lack of parental supervision and/or loved ones who care about their well being. Through volunteering at a missing children s program with Sam s Club, I ve learned first hand just how detrimental maltreatment in our society can be and how we must do everything in our power to prevent children from being exposed to maltreatment, provide them with safe and loving environments, and finally, do all we can to rescue and children that are taken or trafficked and place them in safe environments. In this paper, there will be an exploration of maltreatment of children, including statistics of children who go missing and types of maltreatment, specifically sex trafficking, measures used to find missing children, and finally, what happens to children who go missing, their professions, lifestyles, and quality of life. Child maltreatment is essentially a synonym for child abuse, which is the abuse or neglect or any act or series of acts, regardless of commission or omission by a caregiver, which can result in the harm or threat of a child s life. Child maltreatment is one of the leading reasons why children go missing. • 22. Complexities Of Image And Text Relations Complexities of Image and Text Relations Illustration is a popular aspect in literature, and can be found in all genres and forms. Although it is sometimes more heavily associated with children s books such as illustrated stories, there are large amounts of illustrated work that are designed specifically for an adult audience. Images and text both convey meaning, but they can also compete with one another. Image and text can work to guide the reader on a desired path of understanding, or they can complement each other and allow for a greater understanding. There are a lot of examples of image and text working together, but the medium can be very different. From statues and sculptures with text engraving, paintings inspired by text (or vice versa), prose and verse and illustrations, this relationship is seen regularly in the Romantic Era. This relationship between images and text can be quite complex. Although the use of text and image complement each other and create a deeper understanding and meaning, an image can work to suggest a way of reading a text, therefore limiting the imagination of the reader, and insinuate a certain understanding of a text/story that the reader/viewer may not have come to on their own. In order to understand how text and image work in unison to create meaning, it will be beneficial to look at Lacan s Theory of Meaning . • 37. The Culture Of England At Fresno State About the Culture of England While walking throughout the halls at Fresno State, one may not realize the diversity of culture among the student body. There are many international students that attend Fresno State, and it is more common than students may think. I had the opportunity to interview one of these international students, who traveled very far from her home country in order to attend school in the United States. Esme Gullick, who came to Fresno State in order to pursue her dream of swimming, is now a member of the Fresno State Swim Team, and has traveled 5,245 miles from her hometown of Weston Super Mare, England. England is located within the United Kingdom, and is also referred to as Great Britain. According to Countries and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interview with Esme Esme is currently 20 years old, and moved to the United States when she was 18. She was born and raised in the coastal town of Super Mare, England, and described her hometown as small and old fashioned. She said that England looks nothing like California because of all the rain, and would compare better to Oregon, because of all the green. She also said that everything in England is a lot smaller and cramped than in the U.S., including the roads and the buildings. When she came to the United States, she was looking for the opportunity to compete and train at a competitive level, while still being able to get her degree. She chose Fresno State because of the high standard that is held for student athletes and she wanted to be challenged. Although this does not tie into the culture of England, it does tie into her view of the United States. She viewed the United States as a better opportunity, with better education and more competitive athletics. When I first sat down to speak with Esme, the first thing I noticed was her accent. The primary language of England is English, however she pronounced certain words differently than we do in the United States. One thing that is unique about England is its pride in their Royal Kingdom. According to Esme, many holidays revolve around the Royal Family. This includes recent events like the Royal Wedding and the births of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Biblical Worldview Of Humanity In this paper I will be comparing the biblical worldview with a non biblical worldview in regards to humanity. A biblical worldview foundation is Christ and not us perceiving the world. The biblical worldview is based in our beliefs and seeing the world through Christ s eyes. I will explain different theories of humanity along with the biblical worldview of humanity. I will provide you with a Christian understanding of humanity but I will also show differences and similarities to other interpretations of humanity. The first alternative theory I want to speak about is the Animal Theory. The animal theory says that the human primarily as a member of the animal kingdom and derived from some of its higher forms. (Erickson, 2015) This view says that we have and will go through the same sort of processes as other animals. It mentions that there is only a one degree difference between animals and us and we will have a similar end. We are not animals because the word of God says Let Us make man in Our image, according to our likeness. (Genesis 1:26, New American Standard Bible) If we look at this verse God mentions that we are made on His image. Many argue that the image of God doesn t necessarily mean that we look like Him physically, but that we carry many of His qualities like having dominion over animals. But, if we look into this verse God mentions that He has allowed men to have dominion over animals, an Ape is an animal. Let them rule over the fish of the sea and over ...
