The food we eat contain nutrients. We need
these to grow and to stay healthy.
The main nutrients are:

• Carbohydrates
• Proteins
• Vitamins and minerals

Fibre is the part of fruit and vegetables we
don’t use.

digestive system to function correctly.

A HEALTHY DIET
A diet is everything a person normally eats
and drinks every day.
A HEALTHY DIET
• A balanced diet gives you the right
amount of nutrients.
• A sufficient diet gives you the right
amount of energy, but not too
much.
(If you eat too much, you could become
overweight or obese.)
If your diet gives you a lot of energy than you
need, you can become obese.

It is different for every person.
For example:
• Children need to eat foods containing
proteins and calcium to help them grow.
• People who do a lot of sport need to eat
food which give them a lot of energy.

• Eat five meals a day.
• Eat a variety of foods.
• Don’t eat too much processed food.
• Don’t eat too much salt.
• Drink water.
