Font Analysis
Century Gothic (Bold) This font is sleeker and more modern than the
other fonts; this will attract audiences today as
modern and contemporary design is popular. At
the same time it is also bold enough to stand out
on a magazine rack however it is also very similar
to a lot of other fonts used across many genres.
Gill Sans Ultra Bold I like this font because it is one of the most
blocked and bold fonts shown here. It would
definitely stand out and when combined with
bright and vivid colours would certainly be
unique in comparison to other magazines, many
of which have similar fonts.
Kalinga (Bold) This font is the most contemporary; it includes
clean lines that are reflected in all areas of
modern design. This will attract the current
audience that also likes the popular and current
music of today: rap and hip-hop.
Stencil Std While this font is more interesting than the
others, I don’t feel it is suitable because most rap
magazines have more simple fonts that are as a
result far bolder, there are others that are more
suitable.
Stencilie This font is one of the most bold I’ve chosen to
be the potential font for my final magazine front
page, however the actual font within the box is
very thin and not bold at all in itself and so I
probably won’t be using this for the final one,
but I will include it in the examples of potential
mastheads as it stands out very well compared
to average magazine fonts.
Techno Hideo This is one of my favourite fonts as it is simple
and yet bold and effective and given its unusual
nature (it is a font from the internet and not one
everyone uses from word) will stand out on a
magazine rack as well.
Digital Anarchy This font is, while bold, more artsy and quite thin
compared to the others and more suitable for an
indie/alternative rock genre of magazine.
Dimitri This font is bold and effective too, but it is quite
big and if there is a lot on a front page already, it
won’t be as effective because it would clutter
the cover and so I won’t be making an example
of this font for the masthead.
