This document reports on a small study that examined the effects of "pushing" learners to produce more accurate past tense verb forms through requests for clarification. The study found that: 1) Learners who received pushes to clarify incorrect past tense forms showed immediate and sustained improvements in accuracy over time compared to the control group. 2) Not all learners benefited equally from being pushed, as some did not show much gain from the pushes. 3) Focused communication tasks that push for clarification can help teach grammatical structures, but may only aid acquisition for some learners.
