Main area of activity:
Film trailer
Rationale: In my recent projects of the past year I have not really tested my filming ability but as I
am influencing this off of quite a lot of other outlets for this style, I believe I will have a good sense
of what I'm trying to achieve. In my irn bru can fight advert I showed the skills that I could combine
many different shots to make it look like the cans were having a stand-off. I believe this skill is
crucial as if I can make that look relatively realistic with cans of drink with all practical props I could
make this trailer look good with the editing skills I have learnt from creating my music video in
which I only used my iPhone camera and premier pro. I am good at working in a team and even
better when directing people with things I'd like them to do, this will be crucial during filming as
everything is kind of my idea and my project, obviously I can take constructive criticism and I will
be considering and listening to people's ideas but at the end of the day it's me who decides what to
shoot so it's important I have a decent level of control. I am okay at problem solving and
understanding what goes wrong, although I may still get frustrated, I will understand and try to
improve. When I need something to happen or need help, I am good at communicating which is
important to getting your ideas across and helping other people understand what vision you may
have. My application of IT skills are quite good, since September I have learnt all the basics of
photoshop, premier pro, after effects, illustrator, plus animating, editing video and sound and
colour grading. With the project I'm trying to make these skills are necessary to have so I feel quite
confident. Even if I don’t know how to do something, it's not hard to search a tutorial or ask for
help, then I have learnt the skill.
Project Concept: My project concept is to make a trailer/short movie set in a post-apocalyptic
world about a collision of a couple of people in the wasteland that have to interact. I will include the
first wastelander walking through some shots and scavenging, and then have the other(s)
perception of a high tech/improvised binocular lens. The end result will be that the main
wastelander will win a fight and be on his way. The trailer will hopefully be set in an abandoned
complex of farming buildings which are over grown and barren. This looks post-apocalyptic in
itself, so when I use colour grading and other effects in post-production it will look scarily realistic. I
am aiming to give off the look without giving any context to how the world got that way to keep
tensions high and give the audience a sense of mystery to guess what happened themselves. I will
be conducting research on post-apocalyptic pieces of media such as, Mad Max fury road,
metalhead (black mirror), The road (2009). I will be using inspiration from cast away and The
Martian to demonstrate human ingenuity and adaption. This will shape my product; I will be using
all of these as an index for inspiration of the style and overall concepts and scenarios.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed: I plan to evaluate my work with consideration
of all of my ideas during the period before production, I will represent the journey I have
undertaken of making decisions and developing the concept of the project. I will be analysing what
didn’t work and what did and why. This project will help me decide what I might want to pursue as
a career or what I might not want to do.
