The document summarizes pros and cons of several university open days for media courses. The University of Greenwich has a beautiful campus near London but its media courses lack industry connections and selectivity. The central London university has excellent facilities and connections but accommodation may be far from campus and its media course has low student satisfaction. Edinburgh Napier offers study abroad opportunities in a nice city with good job connections, but its courses may not be as specialized in filmmaking as other options. Aesthetica Film Festival inspired the author to continue pursuing film direction by seeing young filmmakers' success and poorly made student films that showed room for improvement. Masterclasses with industry professionals were also beneficial. Pitching a VR film idea provided valuable experience pitching professionally.
2. University of Greenwich
• Friendly environment
• Campus itself is beautiful
• Nice area just outside of cental London
• Good travelconnections, short tube ride into city centre
• Good course
• Everything is close by (accommodationin relevanceto campus)
• The course is fine, it's good. But it feels a littlebasic
• The course doesn't have industry connections
• The accommodationitself is very small, not the best
• The course isn’t selective, pretty much anyonecan be accepted
• The uni isn't a specialist nor renowned for it's media courses
3. ual:
• Good facilities
• Accommodationis close to campus
• Central London, close to lots places
• Great course although the open day wasn’t a proper
open day, more of a tour of facilities.I watched a video
talking about the course extensively.
• Uni is renowned and very selective
• Has industry connections
• Stanley Kubrick archive
• Didn't get see what accommodationlooks like
• Could be far away from campus
• Course has lowest student satisfactionrating
• Could be risky taking on a different course to all the rest
• Might not get a good student community experience
4. Edinburgh Napier
• Great course
• Opportunityto study abroad
• Nice city
• Good connectionsto getting jobs
• Accommodationis nice, close to campus
• Good safe option
• The course will provide what I want but comparing
UAL who talk about making cinematic films and
analysingthe fundamentalsfor storytellingand
cinema, as a director, a creative, that could be more
beneficial
6. I really enjoyed my experience at the film festival, it very much inspiredme to continuedown this path. Seeing young
filmmakers being a guest on a QnA stage, talking about making films, getting funding; all of this is making it feel possible for
me to be become a director. On the other end of the spectrum, watchingLincoln University students' films on a cinema
screen and those films being absolutelyawful, againinspired me as I know I can do better, not to sound big-headed but they
were very poor.
I particularlyenjoyed attendingthe masterclass QnA disscusions, firstly with Film4 and the director Alexandra Brodski and
with seasoned British dierctor Gerard Johnson.
I’ve had the opportunityto attend a pitch for a VR 360 film to lecturers from Sheffield Hallam University. I really enjoyed this
experience; it gave me the chance to pitch an idea in a professional environment.
