Learning
goes FLIPPED!
Using flipped learning to improve independent
learning
What is flipped learning?
• Rather than the teacher teaching the skills in class, and the
application of learning (the hard bit!) being done at home...
• The learning is set for homework, and the application is done in
class, under the guidance of the teacher
• The teacher's role is diagnostic and supportive
• Students can learn at their own level and at their own pace
• Students can learn in the medium they prefer (written documents,
videos, podcasts etc)
• Students become more independent
Why on FROG?
• FROG enables students to access resources from every lesson on a
bespoke page
• It allows the embedding of a number of different types of resources
• It allows embedded tests (Quizlet, Socrative, Kahoot or FROG's own quiz
app) to see how far students have mastered their learning
• What if students just aren't independent enough? We have to give them
those skills
• The teacher's role is diagnostic and supportive
• Students can learn at their own level and at their own pace
• Students can learn in the medium they prefer (written documents, videos,
podcasts etc)
• Students become more independent
Why is mobile learning the answer?
• Khan Academy-inspired
• Rather than the teacher teaching the skills in class, and the
application of learning (the hard bit!) being done at home...
• The learning is set for homework, and the application is done in
class, under the guidance of the teacher
• The teacher's role is diagnostic and supportive

be forgotten
Key features for AFL
Google Docs
• Office work in the cloud
• Easy to share, collaborate in real time
• Comments and visible dialogue

Most importantly
Good feedback causes students
to THINK rather than react
emotionally.
Be hard on content, soft on
people.
Mobile Technology + AFL
=
Amaze-balls!
Key issues
• Less independent students need far more support
• Can't assume all students have access to Internet at home
• How much time do you really get to spend with the more able?
• Being comfortable with students learning at their own pace
• The pressure of time and targets
