Flat panel displays such as plasma panels, LCDs, and LEDs are thinner, lighter, and use less power than traditional CRT monitors and TVs. They are commonly used in devices like laptops, calculators, video games, and advertisements. Plasma panel displays specifically work by filling the space between two glass plates with neon gas and using electrodes to make the gas cells glow independently of each other, producing the pixels in the display without the need for refreshing. While brighter than LCDs, plasma displays also have some disadvantages like relatively poor resolution and higher cost compared to CRTs.
