A Family Of Flames In The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls
A Family of Flames Michelle K. once explained, some women are lost in the fire; some women are
built from it . In Jeannette Walls memoir, The Glass Castle, she tells her long, adventurous story about
growing up in a poor family who lived on the road for a majority of her childhood. Fire seems to be
the only constant thing in her life, destroying but also building Jeannette as it grows. After Jeannette
learns to control the fire that consumes her life, she obtains her own flame. Fire begins spreading
through Jeannette s life at a young age. It all begins with catching her dress on fire while cooking
hotdogs at three years old. When taken to the hospital, she is admitted with severe burns and is
instructed to stay in the hospital. When her father Rex believes she has had a long enough stay in the
hospital, Jeannette is checked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Excited by her find she locks herself in the bathroom and begins to light toilet paper and when the
flame grows bigger, she throws it in the toilet. Jeannette makes the statement, I was torturing the fire,
giving it life, and snuffing it out (p. 33). Her father does the same thing to the Walls family throughout
their lives. Rex Walls will support and provide for his family for a period of time and then allow his
job and their money to quickly wither away. As the children age they instantaneously learn to provide
for themselves while away from home. Jeannette starts fending for herself by digging through the
trashcans in the bathrooms during and after lunch. After finding herself food, she pulls her feet up onto
the toilet and eats quietly so no one would catch her. Clearly she learns at a young age if she wants
anything she will have to get it herself. Jeannette and her siblings all lower the expectations they have
of their parents. After Jeannette learns to control the fire that consumes her life, she obtains her own

Sister Act Sparknotes
The Academy showcases their annual musical. The Sister Act begins with the protagonist, Deloris,
who has ambitions of becoming the next big thing. Her life turns upside down when she catches her
significant other murdering one of his employees. In order to secure safety, the police hide her in a
convent. There, we meet the other sisters including Mother Superior who despises Deloris. However,
Deloris saved the church by reconstructing their choir. As for the murderous husband, he was caught
by the police when attending one of the mass ceremonies. The protagonist is Deloris Van Cartier who
initially wanted to pursue a singing career. Sister Mary Robert was the youngest out of the others. She
is a shy and innocent character who metamorphoses into a bold and confident sister. Unlike Sister
Mary Robert, Sister Mary Patrick is always an outgoing and spontaneous character. Mother Superior
acts as an antagonist for most of the performance. Lt. Eddie Souther is the policeman who helps
Deloris and captures the primary antagonist who is Vince LaRocca. ... Show more content on

This is mainly due to the blocking and how boring the scene often got. The majority of the scene
consisted of the characters sitting in the pews. This is the same concept for the sleeping scene. I could
not decide on whether Deloris was exhausted or awake during this scene. The strongest aspects of the
play are the singings and the ability that every main character could hit the notes. I do not recall any
moments when the actors messed up or forgot their lines. Particularly, I was impressed by Pablo who
spoke Spanish. The characters are more realistic compared to previous years, therefore, staying in
character seems easy for this year s

Essay about Reframing
Chapter by Chapter Notes and Teaching Suggestions
CHAPTER 20. BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER: CHANGE AND LEADERSHIP IN ACTION
CHAPTER 20 OVERVIEW
Chapter 20 Summary ___________________________________________________
The chapter opens with a case Robert F. Kennedy High School depicting the many problems facing
David King, the new principal of a deeply troubled urban high school. A school that opened with high
hopes only a few years ago now finds itself mired in conflict and dissatisfaction. King s first meeting
with his new administrative staff produces a blow up in which a male housemaster physically
threatens the chair of the English department. By the end of the case, the situation feels overwhelming.
Is there hope? The authors follow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chapter 20: Replay and Critique of David King s Reframing _______________
There is value in having students compare their own thinking about the RFK High case with the
reframing process depicted for David King in the chapter. One way to do this is to ask students to read
the case, stop there, and engage in their own effort to reframe using the same questions David King
used. (This can be done either individually or in groups.) Once students have developed their own
diagnoses, they can read the remainder of the chapter and compare their thinking with David King s.
Another option appears in Exercise 20.1.
Chapter 20: Applying Reframing to Cases or Personal Experience_________
The chapter focuses on putting it all together: integrating everything learned about organizations and
leadership into more comprehensive and powerful understanding and action. The reframing process
illustrated in the chapter can be applied to almost any case or experience: students personal cases,
published cases, films or fiction, or class experiences (role plays, experiential activities, team
experiences, the course). Instructors can, for example, have students study a challenging case
(multiple suggestions are offered elsewhere in this instructor s guide) and then, either individually or
in teams, reframe to develop both diagnoses and solutions. Individuals or groups will differ in what
they see and what

Physical Education And Weight Lifting Instructor At High...
This case of practice is a peer coaching situation completed with the physical education/weight lifting
instructor at our high school. For the purpose of the assignment, the mentee will be referred to by the
initials BK. The purpose of this practicum aligns with the following purposes from Carr s Peer
Coaching Study Groups (2005): Understanding if student learning is meeting specific standards or
moving toward meeting them. Helping teachers reflect on their teaching. Learning more about a
student s thinking and learning needs and implications for instructions. Understanding learning needs
for a small group of students, and Helping a presenting teacher solve a dilemma or problem in
instruction. Identifying a coach/mentoring situation and conduct a needs assessment. I work with BK
as a fellow related arts instructor in our district, as well as, being co advisors for the senior class. We
teach different disciplines, however, we are similar in our teaching styles and must apply our
professional development opportunities to our profession as most of the time our professional
developments are not fully applicable to us and we attempt to do the best we can to fit our professional
development materials to our content to better our teaching. BK has been teaching for thirteen years,
which is one year longer than I and we have worked together for all twelve of my years in the district

The Effects Of Social Media On America
There was no warning of the immense tragedy that hit southern Louisiana on Friday, August 12, 2016.
A rain that came in harder than most hurricanes that have hit Louisiana. This down poor stayed in the
same place for several days and did not stop. Social media had a huge effect on how this tragedy
played out. Where help was being sent, who was okay and who was not okay. People resorted to using
their phones to check on people and letting people know where help was needed with Facebook,
Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, local news stations, and the radio. After everything slowed down and
recovery started, everyone stuck together as a community. People posted GoFundMe pages on
Facebook, started groups to start going out to neighborhoods to help work on houses also on
Facebook, fundraiser concerts were promoted on Instagram. The local news stations showed where to
go and what forms to fill out if they needed help with getting started on their homes. It was the second
day of my senior year when I was woken up by rumbling thunder. My two younger sisters and I all got
in my small convertible mustang and started to drive to school. I could not see through the window
because my windshield wipers were not going fast enough to keep up with the rainfall. The country
roads were flooded the second I started driving. Everyone was driving twenty to thirty miles an hour
and driving in the middle of the roads because the sides were flooding. Once we barely arrived at
school, we received a

The Characteristics Of Raskolyevsky s Duality Vs. Dostoevsky
One of the most peculiar traits about Raskolnikov is that despite him murdering two people, he still
has moments during the novel when he helps others. One would not expect generosity to be present in
a man with a superiority complex, yet at times he can be found donating the last of his kopecks even
when, he himself, desperately needs them. At times, this duality can be confusing to the reader
because it seems as if there are two Raskolnikov s. Which one then, is the true Raskolnikov? Despite
Raskolnikov s attempt to set himself above the common man, he cannot deny his true nature, as shown
when he saves a young girl from the malicious intentions of an older man. Before his interactions with
the young girl, the reader sees Raskolnikov acting in a selfish manner. After reading his mother s letter
Raskolnikov stating that Dunya is to marry a wealthy older man he thinks, how can she not sacrifice
even such a daughter for the sake of such first born son! Oh, dear and unjust hearts (Dostoevsky 44)!
Egocentrically, he incorrectly assumes that the decisions his family has made are entirely for his
benefit. As a superior man , Raskolnikov does not need anyone s help at this point in his life. He is a
man who is willing to kill for the sake of an idea. Further, he thinks he should be the one making
decisions. Raskolnikov firmly states that it won t happen as long as I live, it won t, it won t! I don t
accept it (Dostoevsky 44). Yet, by trying to control his family, it reveals how desperate he is to have
order in his own life. Raskolnikov s life is falling apart, he has no job, owes money to his landlady,
and (suffers from?) crippling anxiety. He uses his superior mindset as a coping mechanism to avoid
addressing the problems that are plaguing his life. He does not have to take responsibility for them
because he believes that his word is above the law. Therefore, his sister has to reject this marriage
from Luzhin in his mind, showing the reader just how bad of a rut he is in life. This man is at his
lowest point in life but he will not accept help from those that truly care about him. In his mind,
control is the ultimate goal for him... yet, despite his selfish thoughts and controlling nature, he is
involuntarily

Tort Reform And Frivolous Lawsuits
As defined Tort reform advocates propose among other things, procedural limits on the ability to file
claims, and capping the awards of damages. There are common goals for each different tort reform;
some of these include
To make it more difficult for injured people to file lawsuits
To make it more difficult for injured people to obtain a jury trial
To place limits on the amount of money injured people received in a lawsuit.
Frivolous lawsuits are lawsuits that cannot be supported under existing legal precedent. In political
debate the term frivolous is used to describe torts as a small connection between the defendant and the
plaintiff where the damages sought after are too high. The U.S. sees about 15 million lawsuits each
year that

It s Hard Short Story
It s hard. This city. I live in a tough city in a tough world, and that makes it hard.
Sometimes I love it here. Sometimes New York is life on the brink. It s people struggling to survive,
their will alone carrying them through. It s energy and intensity, and everything taken to extremes.
Sometimes it s the cliché of the dirt and suffering, the grey isolation that inspires and sparks
creativi¬ty.
But there are times when it is none of that. Times when all I see are empty shells running as fast as
they can from point A to point B with no time or inclination to pause a moment along the way. They
are too busy making it, buying it, having it, looking like it, to see those that they bump into, run over,
or miss entirely. There are times when it is a wasteland of heart¬less, spiritless bodies who can t see
beyond the end of their noses, and their blinders have been on so long they don t even notice them
anymore. What s more, if you pointed it out to them, tried to show them everything they ve been
missing, they d look at you like you had just fallen out of the sky.
Meanwhile, their eyes are just painted glass.

Ten Traits Of Highly Effective Teachers Chapter 1 Summary
In the book, Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals: From good to Great Performance, McEwan
discusses the facilitator in chapter 4 (2003). She describes the facilitator as a leader with abilities to
build strong relationships with parents, teachers, and students. One principal in the book, Bill, thought
the students would learn more if their teachers are understanding, caring, and genuine as opposed with
students who were taught by teachers that were not. This idea was tested and their findings were
placed in a book entitled, Kids Don t Learn From People They Don t Like (Aspey Roebuck, 1977).
The results of the study described the book perfectly. They found the students who have teachers who
are compassionate, sincere, and have respect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Newman greets teachers most mornings with a smile on his face and says, We are going to have a
great day today. While we are signing out in the afternoon, he says, Today was great, but tomorrow
our day is going to be even better! Most of us need encouragement on a daily basis. Not only is Mr.
Newman encouraging us but is including himself in the group when he uses the word, we. Facilitators
benchmark 4.3 is about saying we instead of I. I have heard the saying for years, there is no I in the
word team. The phrase not only applies to a sports team but to a team of educators as well. Students
are not only taught by a set of teachers but the entire school staff. According to benchmark 4.11,
celebrating is a part of the facilitator s responsibility. In the book, Steve Wilson and faculty celebrated
when accomplishments were met. They had popcorn parties, ice cream parties, and other celebrations.
These celebrations help build a positive morale among everyone involved. It is not always easily done
but the rewards are great. This past year, Mr. Newman allowed the student with the most reading
points during the first nine weeks of school to pour green slime over his head. Everyone meeting their
reading goal was able to watch the event. The students then had an ice cream party outside and extra
recess time. The second nine weeks reward was a pizza party with the principal. More students met
their goal than before. By the end of the year,

Resplendent Quetzal Research Paper
Title:
Does the characteristics of Resplendent Quetzal s tail such as its length and color difference affect
male s mating success during the courtship?
Abstract:
The resplendent quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) is a bird in the trogon family. It is found from
Chiapas, Mexico to western Panama. It is well known for its colorful plumage. This species is 36 to 40
cm (14 16 in) long, plus up to 65 cm (26 in) of tail streamer for the male, and weighs about 210 g.
Resplendent quetzals have a green body (showing iridescence from green gold to blue violet) and red
breast. Their green upper tail coverts hide their tails and in breeding males are particularly splendid,
being longer than the rest of the body. The primary wing coverts are also unusually ... Show more

This trait not only influences the mating success of male resplendent quetzal, but also influencing the
number of offspring in the living environment. If the results of this experiment reject my null
hypothesis, which means that my hypothesis of the longer tail length of male resplendent quetzal, the
higher rate for successful mating will be successfully established. Thus the characteristic of the long
tail will increase resplendent quetzal s adaptability and leads to fitness. If the results of my experiment
do not reject my null hypothesis, then the tail length is not an adaptation to increase fitness. There
might be some possible errors during the experiment that leads to the wrong answer such as the
monogamy breeding behavior of resplendent quetzal. However, there might be other interesting
adaptations that are not been tested and we can still use this trait to investigate another function, for
example, instead of tail length that may affect the mating success, the brightness of the color of the tail
may be the trait that can increase the fitness of breeding. By investigating how different brightness of
the tail may influence the mating success, I would like to have three male and female resplendent
quetzals with similar behaviors and characteristics as my test samples. Because most color that appear
among quetzal species are green, thus, I would like to paint each quetzal s tail with

Implications Of Dual Language Immersion
Dual language education benefits both English dominant students and English language learners with
a goal of helping students to become bilingual, bicultural and biliterate. This paper will explore the
Implications of Dual Language Immersion programs in US schools. While dual language education
has existed in the United States for roughly two centuries, and it reached its height of popularity in the
1970s, the use of dual language education in public schools has declined significantly in recent
decades due to legislative actions that have sought to limit its use. When used, dual language
education is generally seen as a way to ensure that non English speaking students, or students who are
not yet proficient in English, are given equitable opportunities to succeed in and complete their
education. While schools and teachers may use a wide variety of dual language strategies, each with
its own specific instructional goals, the programs are typically designed to simultaneously develop
English fluency, content knowledge, and academic language the knowledge, skills, and cultural
proficiencies needed to succeed in an academic program.

Compare And Contrast Stele Of Naram Sin And Hammurabi
Curstain Yarber ARTH 221 .002 HW #2 The Stele of Naram Sin and Hammurabi s Law Code are both
somewhat common steles. The Stele of Naram Sin displays a theme of power and narrative put
together on a 6 and a half foot stele made completely from pink limestone. The Law Code is just one
of the earliest written bodies of law presented on a black basalt stele. Reaching 7 feet tall the Law
Code is 6 inches taller than The Stele of Naram Sin. The Stele of Naram Sin is mainly engraved
images, while the Law Code features two images and is mainly covered in text. The images on both
steles are reliefs. The Stele of Naram Sin commemorates Naram Sin s victory over the Lullubi people
of the Zagros Mountains. Soldiers are portrayed in a composite view just as Naram Sin is much larger

shown as a shepherd compared to the sun god, but Naram Sin is shown as a king in The Stele of
Naram Sin. Even though Hammurabi and Naram Sin are wearing different head dresses and clothes,
they are both fairly muscular. Naram Sin wears lots of weapons, what looks to be shoes, and a small

Discourse On Livy
Niccolò Machiavelli is very well known as an important and influential Italian historian, politician,
philosopher, and writer during the Renaissance. His book, Discourses on Livy, is a discussion
regarding the classical history of early Ancient Rome, although it uses contemporary political
examples and strays far away from the subject of Rome at times. It is presented as a series of lessons
on how a republic should be started and structured. Most importantly, it constantly brings up the idea
of corruption and corrupt people, which is not surprising because we all desire things and search for
the simplest way to obtain it, even though the easiest way to obtain something might be a corrupt way.
When Machiavelli uses the term corrupt or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems more difficult to change the regime. This is the source of corruption. When one class of
society strives to better themselves and succeed in doing so, it causes corruption. Machiavelli spends a
chunk of Discourses on Livy discussing how states are corrupt and the citizens within them are
corrupt as well. The first important point he makes when it comes to corruption is that men do not
know how to be entirely good or bad. He claims, they concluded that men clearly do not know how to
be honourably bad or perfectly good, and that when an evil deed contains in itself some grandeur or
some generosity, they do not know how to carry it out (Machiavelli 82). Thus, Machiavelli is
elaborating on the theme of good and bad and how even those who are good and are not considered
corrupt still make bad decisions sometimes. Generally, men decide on a middle course, instead of
choosing a completely good or bad course. This decision is seen as most hazardous because it is hard
to claim someone is good if they do not make entirely good decisions and it is hard to claim someone
is bad if they do not make entirely bad decisions. The second important point Machiavelli makes is
that men are easily corrupted and even those who are good can easily turn bad. He states, It should
also be noted, in this matter or the decemvirate, how easily men may be corrupted and how they may
transform themselves and give

The Importance Of Collectivism In Japanese Culture
Collectivism also affects how the Japanese make decisions within their companies. Unlike their
counterparts in Western business organizations, Japanese executives and managers are not real
independent decision makers (Samovar 268). While Western businesses usually adopt a top to bottom
approach to decision making, Japanese businesses operate under a more democratic approach.
Japanese CEOs rarely make decisions on their own for fear of backlash from the overall group.
Rather, they adopt what is called a ringi style of decision making that promotes harmony, cooperation,
and consensus within the organization (Samovar 267). Before any major decisions are made, the CEO
confirms that all members of the group have reached an agreement. In The Silent Language, Edward
Hall claims that what people do is frequently more important then what they say (Hall Silent
Language 2). Furthermore, non verbal communication research shows that over 70% of interpersonal
interaction happens non verbally (LaCour 66). Words convey what a person wants you to think, but a
person s actions express what they are actually feeling. Thus, it should come as no surprise that
perhaps the most important aspect of effective communication within Japanese culture is non verbal
communication. Within the theme of non verbal communication in Japan comes the subject of high
contextuality. While Americans emphasize directness and clarity in communication, the Japanese
typically rely on communicating with vague

Similarities And Differences Of Banquets In The...
Research Paper
Have you ever wondered how banquets from the Elizabethan Era are similar and different from today
s era? Everyday life in the Elizabethan Era was amazing; however, banquets and inventions were the
same as how we live today. This paper will explain the different events and similarities and differences
from now and the Elizabethan Era .
In the Elizabethan Era there were many big feasts and festivals. Some feasts were for the queen and
many other royals .These banquets and feast were very different from today. The average family in the
21st century eats one meal; however in the Elizabethan Era people ate five different course meals at
their banquets and feasts. Some of the foods that were served: a quarter stag, a stuffed ... Show more

In Elizabethan Era their audiences in their theater were filled like some of our movie theaters today.
Their performances were mostly given in the afternoon. Except in this century people mostly go to
movies at night time. Their movies would last two or three hours just like today s theater.
At some of these theater shows in the Elizabethan Era there were many different artist. Queen
Elizabeth even made up some of the arts herself. Some of the artist that painted portraits of Queen
Elizabeth was Hans Holbein, and Nicholas Hillard. Hillard painted a mini portrait of Queen Elizabeth
in 1952. Hillard painted most of his portraits from Henry s courtiers .Most of these paintings were
brought before Queen Elizabeth at these banquets and feasts that were held. These two artists got their
ideas from the European Renaissance.
In the painting that Hillard painted in 1572, he painted Queen Elizabeth in a piece of clothing they
called a ruff. The Elizabethan Era clothing style is something you wouldn t see anyone wearing in the
21st century. In the 2000s people wore jeans and shirts and casual jackets. In the Elizabethan Era
women wore gowns, corsets, and ruffs. Men wore doublets, breeches, and ruffs as

Marble Drop Lab Report
Bryan Ruef
Period 6
AP Physics Lab Report Marble Drop Experiment
Problem:
This lab was designed to prove that the height of an object launched on a ramp is relational to the
distance it goes off the ramp.
Hypothesis:
When releasing a marble off of a ramp on a table, the higher up that the marble starts on the ramp, the
farther it should land from the table on the ground.
Design:
We placed a small ramp on a table and used clamps to ensure the ramp wouldn t move and change our
results. With tape, we marked each height we would drop the marble from. Using a meter stick, we
measured the height of the table, base of the ramp, and the height of each place the marble would be
dropped. On our paper, which we taped to the ground to prevent ... Show more content on

This positive slope shows that as the ramp heights increased, so did the distance the marbles traveled.
However, there were problems with the experiment.
First, the meter stick did not have perfect ends. This caused uncertainty because the measurements
were not accurate. The meter stick was not compared with others to see if it was reasonably close.
Another error was that we did not have a constant release method. We placed the marble on the ramp
each time and just let go. The marble could have stuck to our hand and been released higher or lower
than we wanted it to. Also, there could have been human error since we released the marble by hand
and we could have moved up or down accidentally.
The final error was that we used multiple different marbles for the lab. They could have had different
weights or shapes. Even the slightest difference in shape would affect where it landed.
Solutions to the meter stick error are simple. We could have bought a new meter stick with perfect
ends. If we were not able to buy one, we could have compared it to many other meter sticks and used
whichever one was most

sustainability. In theory, the environmental movement has succeeded in many of its basic goals, such
as bringing attention to local and global problems, educating the public on simple sustainable actions,
and starting an international conversation. Nevertheless, there are many issues concerning the climate
and living species that have not been resolved yet.
The UBC Farm houses The Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (CSFS), which aims to change
global and local food systems to be more Eco friendly and food secure. They try to find new ways to
solve challenges that the sustainability of food systems face, and thus enhance community, personal
and environmental health. Their group s mission is to create a healthy environment through
interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative research, and educational engagement with the community.
The centre also strives to increase land productivity, and advance ecosystem services; starting from
supply (habitat, fuel, food, etc.) all the way to the end product (greenhouse gas, waste). This weekend,
I was able to be a part of this network when I volunteered at one of their fares (the UBC Farm s Apple

Women in Haiti
There is much to know about Haiti when it comes to the conditions as well as the events witnessed in
Haiti during the regime of the Duvaliers. However, little is knows about this country despite its
proximity to the United States. The Duvaliers caused a lot of injustice toward Haitians. In Edwidge
Danticat s Krik? Krak!, originally published in 1991, she brings out the suffering and violence that
were witnessed in Haiti through the resilience of strong women. Josephine s mother in Nineteen
Thirty Seven and Marie in Between the Pool and the Gardenias represent the strength of women,
which plays a significant part in most of the stories in her book; yet, their powers are seen as false and
threatening.
In Nineteen Thirty Seven, Danticat uses Josephine as the narrator, who speaks of her imprisonment for
being a witch, having managed to cross a bloody river when she fled from the Dominican Republic
(DR) to Haiti. At this time close to 20,000 Haitian workers were brutally murdered in the DR. In
Between the Pool and the Gardenias, Danticat introduces the reader to Marie, who picks up a dead
baby in the street and decides to name it Rose. She believes she is the baby s mother and shares secrets
about her life with it.
Defile, who is Josephine s mother in Nineteen Thirty Seven, is serving a jail term for being a witch.
Recalling her mother s arrest, she saw people took her mother away. Her face was bleeding

Research Paper About Juveniles
Problem Statement: Poor education, low school attendance, peer pressure, disadvantaged
socioeconomic status, and substance abuse are a few factors that have the greatest impact upon the
commission of crimes by juveniles. These factors could possibly drive a young person to commit
crimes. I strongly feel that the social learning has contributed a major role in the juvenile world from
negative influences. Once those negative influences are within the youth, they then display their
actions within their criminal behavior. Overall, it is very concise that the propensity for criminal
behavior begins prior to adulthood. Peer pressure is a big influence on our youth today. Survey stated,

Phonemes In The English Language
Question 1 Language is a very important system of communication that can be either spoken, written,
or consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way. Language has the profound
ability to be communicated either verbally or nonverbally, using the movements of the lips (reading
lips), hands (motions), and even body language as methods of communication. Language widely
varies among communities and one s abilities (hearing, mobility, etc). Phonemes, or the smallest unit
of sounds in a spoken/sign language are imperative due to the fact they help distinguish one word
from another. Each phoneme represents a different sound a person can make. There are forty four
phonemes in the English language, and hundreds of spelling alternatives that can be used to represent
them. Phonemes consist of both vowels and consonants, and can be anywhere from one letter to three,
in no particular order. A phoneme can consist of a single morpheme. Morphemes are the smallest
meaningful unit in the grammar of a language. These additional letters or words that are added on to
existing words help create more meaning for the word itself. i.e. adding s on the end of a word can
suggest either possession or plural. Adding un , meaning not . There are two types of morphemes, free
and bound. A free morpheme is essentially a word, meaning it can stand along and be meaningful. A
bound morpheme usually conveys grammatical notions, and are affixed to free morphemes to slightly

Welcome to the most wonderful racist world of Disney The wonderful world of Disney is synonymous
with fairy tales, adventure, and happily ever after. Disney makes dreams come true and makes us wish
upon a star. And apart from its entertaining purposes, the world of Disney is a learning medium in
which kids can learn about ethics, values and self image. The world of Disney over time has become a
persuasive form in which children can learn about the world around them. However, The world of
Disney teaches messages to children that exceed the boundaries of childhood culture. Many of Disney
movies and television shows portray people of color in stereotypical fashion and its attempt in
diversity exemplifies the ideals of colorblindness.
In the past years, Disney television shows have been trying to embody the whole concept of
multiculturalism and the idea of inclusiveness. There have been diverse representations of people of
colored as cast members in many of Disney television shows. Shows like That s so Raven and Cory in
the House are about black families with diverse casts. Diversity in cast is also seen in shows like
Wizards of Waverly place, Good Luck Charlie and Shake it Up. This racial diversity of Disney
television shows is seen as a step towards the eradication of racism and the adoption of
multiculturalism in television. This is however misleading as Disney s idea of racial diversity in their

hen a company goes global, it often doesn t realize that its strategy is a product of its own culture.
Culture influences every aspect of a company s strategy, whether at the corporate level or the product/
brand level. For this reason, companies cannot simply convert a national strategy into a global strategy
without first understanding the various cultural dynamics at play.
In this article, I will discuss three aspects of global strategy: the company s mission, vision and
identity, brand strategies, and communications. Drawing upon Geert Hofstede s dimensions of

op yo Although the concept of the mission and vision are Western inventions, the practice has been
universally embraced by companies worldwide. Providing a statement that expresses a company s
strategic intent, its philosophy, values, ethics or operational effectiveness has become standard global
management practice. Yet closer analysis of such statements reveals telling differences in content and
form across the world.
The mission statements of U.S. companies, for example, tend to be strong statements of identity and
reflect the need for consistency, performance, leadership, greatness and growth values that are shared
among cultures that score high on individualism and cultural masculinity, and low on longterm
orientation, like the United States does.
So, General Electric states: Being a reliable growth company requires consistent execution on
strategic principles that drive performance every quarter and every year.
Meanwhile, in collectivistic cultures, such as those found in Asia, social harmony is prized and
companies function more like families. What the company stands for is more often expressed as

How Do Organic Chemists Use Melting Point To Identify...
Organic chemists use melting points to identify compounds and determine its purity. Two
temperatures that need to be noted are the point at which the first drop of liquid appears from the
substance and the point at which the entire mass of the solid substance turns to liquid. The range
between these two points is the melting point. The melting point is used to determine the purity of a
substance because if the substance is pure then its melting point will be higher. Also, if the substance
is pure then its melting point will be narrower. The melting point will be lower if the substance is
impure. Melting point can be used to identify an unknown compound by mixing it with a known
substance with a known melting point. If it is the correct material

Edgar Allan Poe Alone
Have you ever wondered what it s like to lose your entire family? In the poem Alone written by Edgar
Allan Poe, it tells a story about an adult looking back on his childhood. This poem is a real reflection
of Poe s life and experiences, when he was younger, he lost pretty much his entire family like his
parents, his foster mother and wife died and he was raised by a stern man who was angry about Poe
writing poetry, which as a result he became isolated and secluded. Poe was an American writer and is
best known for his poetry and short stories. The main themes in the poem are isolation and depression.

epidemic proportions and we need to be more aware of the possibility that we may know someone
who is suffering from depression. I hope we can find something that helps and guides us to know the
correct things to say, rather than focusing only on what not to say to someone suffering from this
serious illness, such as helping Poe with his depression. In the end Poe still haven t found what he was

Crown Lengthening Research Paper
What is Crown Lengthening
Crown lengthening is a common oral surgery performed by a periodontist. The procedure involves the

Lengthening
Crown lengthening may be done to restore damaged teeth, insert a dental crown, or for cosmetic
reasons. Teeth that are severely damaged due to tooth decay, trauma or periodontal disease may need
to undergo crown lengthening if the tooth is broken under the gum or there is not enough tooth surface
to properly restore the tooth.
Dental crowns are used to cover, protect, and strengthen damaged teeth. If the crown does not fit

Crown lengthening is a common procedure and can be performed in our office under general

Hiv, Or Human Immunodeficiency Virus
Question 1
HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, attacks the human immune system and greatly weakens the
body s ability to fight foreign invaders and infection. HIV first demanded notice in the early 1980s in
the United States in homosexual men displaying illnesses like Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and
Kaposi s sarcoma. The disease was soon observed in IV drug users, hemophiliacs, and blood
transfusion recipients, but became publicized as a gay disease, nicknamed by the media as GRID, or
Gay Related Immuno Deficiency. It was later renamed AIDS, or Acquired Immuno Deficiency
Syndrome, in September of 1982. Before the true cause of the disease had been discovered, it had
killed countless people and received immense press coverage, and the infection rate was rampant,
because the cause was unknown and thus no treatment method could be developed.
Finally, in 1983, two separate research teams, lead by Robert Gallo and Luc Montagnier of the Pasteur
Institute in isolated a retrovirus that was the true infectious agent responsible for the development of
AIDS. Gallo s team named the virus HTLV III and Montagnier s team coined it as LAV, or
lymphadenopathy associated virus. Later, it was discovered that the two viruses were exactly the
same; it was renamed as Human Immunodeficiency Virus, and Gallo and Montagnier now share the
credit its discovery.
Although HIV/AIDS wasn t noticed in the United States until the 1980s and didn t have an identified

Analyzing The Movie The Magnificent Seven
A good majority of us have seen Old westerns before. We ve grown to love and know them so well.
They are relics of how life was in the old west and even more show what we think the old west should
be life. The revitalized western movie The Magnificent Seven is only a remake that shows you
everything you love about a western movie, it does not reinvent or add anything special to the genre.
Usually in a remake movie with up to date actors and even better special effects and editing skills you
would think that it makes the movie better. I ve come to realize now that the old movies we ve all
come to love cannot be made with the same magic a second time. They were for their time and you
lose something when you remake it. For this movie the only thing significantly better was the camera
resolution. Everything else seems to be the same. Especially the epic final battle or in a western movie

How The Tuskegee Changed Aviation

by attending the University of Illinois in 1939. It was there that he joined ROTC. When war was
declared on Pearl Harbor, McGee applied for a pilot s slot in an experimental squadron and passed the
exams. According to the National Aviation Hall of Fame, on October 19, 1942, he received his orders

When McGee began his career in the Air Force, African American s were still seen as unequal to white
Americans in every aspect. It wasn t until July 2, 1964, that President Johnson signed the Civil Rights
Act of 1964 that banned discrimination based on race. Previous to this, the Jim Crow laws were used
as justification for denying African Americans soldiers the opportunity to become pilots in the
military. Once this changed, a new door opened for colored pilots causing many to stay in the military
long after the war ended and turn it into a career, as McGee did. Although McGee s career began due
to WWII, it certainly did not end there. McGee went on to serve in Korea as well as Vietnam. By the

President of the Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated for two presidencies. This is significant because
McGee helped show the nation that African Americans are capable of being not only some of the best

Analysis Of Yaa Gyasi s Homegoing
In Yaa Gyasi s Homegoing, discovering and exploring, the obvious and hidden, traumas and their
subsequent effects on each generation is one of the most compelling parts of her highly acclaimed first
novel. Set on Ghana s Gold Coast in the 1700s, two sisters, who have never met, create generations of
descendants who experience traumas continuously. Some generations experience the first hand the
effects of slavery and the African slave trade, while others deal with the repercussions of belonging to
a tribe of Africans that sold humans into slavery. Because the experience of trauma is continuous, the
descendants of both sister, Esi and Effia, are never fully able to heal. Instead, the consequences of war,
rape, kidnapping, violence and death are explored in the three hundred years since birth of the sisters.
Past and current traumas shape the identities of each generation. Gysai s narrative tells and retells the
violent histories of both families in an attempt to help heal trauma that still remains imbedded in many
Africans, and African Americas. Homegoing has been described by Michiko Kakutani of the New
York Times as wildly ambitious which is an understatement for a novel that attempts to cover three
hundred plus years of atrocities against African and African Americans in three hundred page. The
novel s structure includes fourteen vignettes that allow readers to enter each character s life at a
traumatic moment, but fails to develop any one character completely.

The Department Of Health And Human Services Essay
Creating a flowchart can help members of a team understand how a workflow process works and also
reduce unnecessary steps. By making a protocol appear simpler and easier to follow, the organization
can help nurses be more consistent with the protocol and therefore improve patient outcomes.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (n.d.), a flowchart helps provide a
visual aspect of the workflow by conveying the sequence and interactions of activities and tasks and
thus clarifying key work processes, identifying who performs what activities and tasks, recognizing
activities and tasks that should be performed by another person, and identifying unnecessary or non

Plate Tectonics And Its Effects On The World
Maybe the most ideal approach to see how Pinnacles started is to envision that you are viewing a
video shot somewhere in the range of 60 million years prior completion at the present time. Not
wishing to see something that is milleniums long, you accelerate the activity by keeping your finger
on the quick forward catch. Regardless. At last regardless you know the story all around ok to rehash
it.
Plate Tectonics
At the point when the video starts, the mainlands have the structure we know today; the vast majority
of the world s extraordinary mountain reaches are set up, and the Pacific Ocean is so far inland that a
large portion of California s beach front mountains don t exist. Yet, they are going to be conceived on
account of something many refer to as plate tectonics.
Geologists trust that the world s hull is isolated into huge plates that fit together like the bits of a
mammoth jigsaw riddle. These plates are thought to move persistently, for the most part on a level
plane. As per geologic hypothesis, the plates meet in no less than three ways, and two of these are
imperative to our story: subduction zones (where one plate moves underneath the other), and change
limits (where the two plates grind past each other). At some point around sixty million years prior,
when our video starts, the lighter weight North American Plate started abrogating or subducting the
denser Farallon plate, and as it did, its external edge went about as a bulldozer, gathering up

Essay on The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is written from the point of view of Jean Dominique Bauby, a
French journalist and former editor in chief of ELLE magazine, in Paris. Bauby suffered a severe
stroke on December 8, 2005, leaving him with a rare condition known as locked in syndrome, in
which the brain continues to function normally, but the body is completely paralyzed. Jean Do
retained some movement in his head and left eye, and wrote his memoir through a tedious method of

Jean goes on to share his experiences at the hospital, explaining his life on a day to day basis. He talks
about his different doctors and therapists, the tortures that come with an inability to move, and what it
s like to be bathed, dressed, and fed. His right eye is eventually sewn up, as the eyelid no longer
functioned. Bauby describes the communication code he sets up with his speech therapist, Sandrine, in
which she recites the alphabet and he blinks when she calls the right letter. Friends and family
sometimes visit Jean Do. He recounts a day he spent with his children and their mother, on the beach,
for father s day, among other visits. Bauby also reminisce about his life before the stroke, recalling his
early days as a journalist, shaving his father, a pilgrimage he once took with his lover, and, finally, the
day of his stroke. At the end of the book, Bauby sees the contents of a half open purse on a nearby
table, a hotel room key, a metro ticket, and a hundred franc note, and realizes that these ordinary
objects have become alien to him: remnants of a way of life he has become a stranger to. This forces
Bauby to realize that he is beginning a new life, and must acknowledge this in order to move ahead.
This differs from the beginning of the book, in which he only displays a longing for life to return to
how it was before the stroke. It is not until he truly accepts his condition that Bauby s mind is able to

that the way we talk to children is key to building their ability to understand and create sentences of
their own. The exaggerated speech we naturally use with young children is a special register often
called motherese (Medical Xpress , 2011). Moreover, child directed speech (CDS) plays an important
role in language acquisition because while modifying and adjusting speech to a child, this keeps their
attention and meets the needs of providing understanding to the young addressee.
Child directed speech (CDS), also referred to as infant directed speech (IDS) or motherese is a speech
register that is characterized by pitch and intonation, slower speech rates with pauses in between
words, shorter simple sentences and frequent repetition (O Brien, 2017). Moreover, the role child
directed speech (CDS) plays in language acquisition is that it modifies and adjusts speech directed to
children and keeps their attention as well as meets the needs of providing understanding to the young
addressee (Clarke, p. 45).
This paper will examine the cultural variations embedded in child directed speech (CDS) and how the
characteristics of child directed speech (CDS) differ cross culturally. Specifically, this essay will show
evidence of cultural variation from several case studies by focusing on the differences and similarities
in prosodic characteristics within child directed speech (CDS)

Marvel Comics Research Papers
Looking for the top 3 best Marvel comics plots? Most of them are in the comic book literature. While
others can be found in the movies but this list will make it easy for you to round up.
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe expanding, the platform is looking at a wide web of story arcs.
There are multiple ways a super hero dies (and lives). These versions have different time lines and
even histories, but there are only a few that can become the top 3 best Marvel comics plots.
Still, there are those that look at the comics as its main source of interest and recreation. Which is why
here are the top 3 best Marvel comics plots (and some are even in the movies):
#3 When Gwen Stacy Died
Remember that time Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) in The Amazing ... Show more content on

Aside from that, she is in the hearts of both Cyclops and Wolverine. But after discovering the Phoenix
within her, she turns evil.
In the X Men: The Last Stand, Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) becomes a powerful entity that burns
everything around her. It is much the same in the 1980 comics. It is a pivotal moment for fans to find
out that their favorite character can become evil and think themselves a god.
#1 The Infinity Stones
Now, the Infinity Stones are a subject of interest in all the Marvel movies. There is a tidbit here and
there that rounds up all of the Marvel characters together.
But many do not understand that the Infinity Stones is not about power. It is a courtship between
Thanos and Death. Thanos yearns for Death s affection and the only way he can do that is to collect
the stones and form the gauntlet.
The Infinity Gauntlet will enable Thanos to kill billions and even trillions of lives, all of which will be
given as gifts to Death. This is considerably one of the most insane courtship rituals in the Marvel
Comics and one that stands out most of the Avenger films.
Eventually, the movie will close the story of the Infinity Stones in Avengers: Infinity War, Guardians
of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Thor:

What Are Your Struggles Essay
Struggles can come from everywhere, but the hardest ones are from within. Our weaknesses, our flaws
are the things we have to struggle with every day. I have grown up with quite a few struggles like
everyone else. My anger, fear of public speaking and trust issues set me apart of other people and
these are the struggles I cope with every day. I just have to learn how to live with those flaws and
sooner or later I will overcome them.
Anger the one thing that runs in my family. I wouldn t say I m bipolar but I can go from freezing cold
to burning fire real quick. My anger is a struggle because it prevents me from seeing someone else s
point of view also can make me selfish. It makes me think as if I m always right (which can be true).
My anger sometimes leads me on caring too much, since I put too much time and effort trying to
prove my point and trying to prove someone else wrong, even if that person doesn t ... Show more

I have trust issues, but when I giving someone everything they toss it away like nothing, something
inside of me breaks. I think what hurts the most is when I give my all to someone, through thick and
thin, there for them, I stick with them, no matter what. Then one day they just give up. They won t
even fight for me, unlike how I did. The one thing I never have done they did with no hesitation. This
is why I have trust issues, I give my 100% in everything yet that person won t even care. As if
whatever we had was never a thing? People give up too quickly but I give in so easily. Life is unfair, it
seems like I m giving everyone everything and they re just walking away with it. Sometimes giving
someone a second chance is like giving someone an extra bullet for the gun because they missed the
first time. I have had many bad experiences with friendship in the past, just don t want to struggle with
anymore, that s why I have had one true friend for the past ten years,

Tay-Sachs Disease Analysis
Tay Sachs disease is an inherited disorder that progressively destroys nerve cells in the brain and
spinal cord. Commonly it becomes apparent in infancy. Infants with this disorder usually appear
normal until ages 3 6 months, when their development slows and muscles used for movement weaken.
Affected infants can t turn over, sit, or crawl. They also get startled easy to loud noises. As the disease
continues they can experience seizures, vision loss, hearing loss, intellectual disability, and even
paralysis. Usually they live into only early childhood. Seizures becomes a problem between ages two
and five, with death at around fifteen years of age. Age of death is usually between 2 and 4 years,
often from pneumonia. There is no treatment for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The HEXA gene provides instruction for making part of an enzyme called beta hexosaminidase A,
which plays a very critical role in the brain and spinal cord. This enzyme is found in the lysosomes,
which are the structures in cells that break down toxic substances and their job is that of a recycling
center. Beta hexosaminidase A helps break down a fatty substance called GM2 ganglioside. The
mutations in the HEXA gene disrupt the activity of beta hexosaminidase A, which prevents the
enzyme from breaking down GM2 ganglioside. As a result, this substance accumulates to toxic levels,
particularly in the neutrons in the brain and also the spinal cord. Damage by the buildup of GM2
ganglioside leads to the destruction of the neurons; Causing signs and symptoms of Tay Sachs disease.
Symptoms of Tay Sachs disease include Deafness, Decreased eye contact, blindness, Decreased
muscle tone (loss of muscle strength), Delayed mental and social skills, Dementia, Increased startle
reaction, Irritability, Listlessness, Loss of motor skills, Paralysis or loss of muscle function, Seizures,
Slow growth, and Unable to swallow. You can only get Tay Sachs disease if both parents are

The Cold Side Of Concrete
There are many places having long cold season. Due to time constraints, many constructions
inevitably do concreting in winter. The cold injury of concrete are that flake peeling is caused by the
freeze thaw damage of concrete surface material and internal damage produced in the concrete may
lead to concrete properties. Prevention the cold damage of concrete in winter construction is
important. According to the article, Energy Efficient Approach to Cold Weather Concreting , Barna,
Seman, and Korhonen(2011) introduce a new approach to cold weather concreting which is antifreeze
concrete. They thinks that traditional cold weather concreting method is expensive and energy in
efficient, because traditional method requires artificial heating of the materials and needs to create a
suitable environment for curing normal concrete. This study compare the estimated annual cost in
1991 and in 2011 to show the antifreeze concrete result in saving money and explains an initial
laboratory tests to show that antifreeze concrete mixtures are capable of being workable, entraining
air, and meeting the design freezing point. The authors also explains a performance test to show that
the strength gain of concrete cured at 4°C is same as cured at +5°C, and that antifreeze mixtures made
concrete be durable. Thus, they conclude that the antifreeze concrete doesn t need artificial heating
which results in saving time, money, and energy in constructing process. The article is convincing.

Environmental Policies of Liberia:
Perspectives from a Socioeconomic Investigation
Liberia, commonly known for diseases such as Ebola and cholera and also known as home to such
notorious figures as Joshua Milton Blahyi, a mass murderer and cannibal, is a nation recovering from
two recent civil wars on the northwest shore of Africa. The total landmass, consisting of 111,369
square kilometers; is roughly the size of the state of Virginia. In addition to having a long stretch of
coastline along the North Atlantic Ocean, about 13% of the landmass is aquatic. With this in mind, the
population density based on June estimates is 4,092,310, per square kilometer of usable landmass,
which equates to about 43 persons per square kilometer of usable ... Show more content on

Liberia s Current Environmental Policy
In 2003, Civil war plagued Liberia formed The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA s
mission statement is as follows:
The Environmental Protection Agency of the Republic of Liberia is the principle authority for
implementing the national environmental policy and sustainable management law for the protection of
natural resources in Liberia. As a commitment to the environment, the Government of Liberia
established the EPA in 2003 under the EPAAct.The Agency became a fully functioning entity in 2006
with a board of directors and Policy Council. As the lead government environment protection Agency,
the EPA has been charged with the executive authority over all environmental activities and
programmes relating to environmental management in Liberia (The National Environmental 2003).
The agency is empowered with a list of 25 functions; none of which seem to be implemented.
Furthermore; it would seem that the agency is currently of little to no use for reasons that will be
addressed later. These reasons are despite the fact that the organization has clearly stated its ultimate
purpose as such:
It is the continuing responsibility of NECOLIB to use all practicable means possible, consistent with
other essential components of national policy, to improve and coordinate government s plans,
functions, programs and resources to the end that the nation may:

The Prevention of Disaster Theme in Mary Shelley s...
Shelley s Frankenstein can be considered as one of the first representations of a possible apocalypse
that is now ubiquitous, humans will someday create something that will destroy mankind. In different
works, this Armageddon takes various forms: in the iconic movie The Matrix man made machines
enslave the human race, while in another popular movie I Am Legend, a genetically engineered virus
mutates and kills the vast majority of the world s population. Frankenstein, however, is not intended to
give the reader an impending sense of doom, instead it warns about the consequences of creating
something, no matter the intent behind its creation, without exercising proper caution. In both the
previously mentioned films and also in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Walton s mistake does not cause him physical harm, the failure of his enterprise is a shame
worse than death: in his own words, I had rather die than return shamefully my purpose unfulfilled
(218). Through both the monster and Walton, Shelley also points out that while lack of caution may
not have mortal consequences, the results will nevertheless be severe. Shelley reiterates this message
throughout Frankenstein, One should always be cautious, and never be so rushed to finish a project
that the normal rules of safety are cast aside. The author conveys her belief by revealing the reasoning
of Frankenstein during the creation of the two monsters. During the making of the first monster,
Frankenstein is almost driven insane with his desire to succeed. He tells Walton, My eyeballs were
starting from their sockets in attending to the details of my employment...my eyes were insensible to
the charms of nature... I also forgot my friends who were so many miles absent and whom I had not
seen in quite a long time (55). Frankenstein s words reveal the deleterious results of being incautious,
he did not notice the seasons change, nor did he think of his friends, his body also suffers the
consequences of his wild frenzy to finish his work. However, when the monster approaches
Frankenstein to create a female daemon, Frankenstein is slightly wiser after suffering the loss of
several of his loved ones.

Human Reproductive Cloning Should be Banned Essay
Human Reproductive Cloning Should be Banned
The issues concerning human reproductive cloning are shrouded in controversy, perhaps
overshadowing the true advantages of cloning technology. Therapeutic cloning, which is often
misunderstood as reproductive cloning, is less controversial than the latter as it does not involve the
creating of an individual being. Instead, vital stem cells are extracted from human embryos, in order to
generate tissues and organs for transplant.
The goal of this process is strictly to harvest stem cells, resulting in the creation of cloned organs ,
which can be used to treat heart disease, Alzheimer s, and cancer.
However, because reproductive cloning involves the creation of a specific being with ... Show more

. . concerns can be addressed when reproductive cloning has been shown to be safe in animals, which
it has not yet. (Paulson) The success rate by means of reproductive cloning remains pale in
comparison to natural procreation, and thus does not justify cloning as a form of procreation for the
time being. The current success rate for reproductive cloning stands at one or two viable offspring per
100 experiments, and until the success rate drastically increases, cloning humans would be potentially
dangerous and unethical.
The dangers that arise from reproductive cloning are numerous, and are enough to validate the
banning of human reproductive cloning altogether. During mammalian reproductive cloning, a large
proportion of clones suffered from weakened immune systems, which greatly compromised the animal
s ability to fight off infection, disease, and other disorders. Animal experiments in cloning all indicate
that a cloned twin is at high risk of congenital defects, multiple health problems and perhaps a greatly
shortened life span. (Paulson) In addition, many of the offspring produced through cloning suffer
massive abnormalities, such as missing or deformed organs. Approximately 30% of offspring are
diagnosed with large offspring syndrome and other debilitating conditions. In fact, studies on
reproductive cloning have shown that more than 90% of

  • 2. A Family Of Flames In The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls A Family of Flames Michelle K. once explained, some women are lost in the fire; some women are built from it . In Jeannette Walls memoir, The Glass Castle, she tells her long, adventurous story about growing up in a poor family who lived on the road for a majority of her childhood. Fire seems to be the only constant thing in her life, destroying but also building Jeannette as it grows. After Jeannette learns to control the fire that consumes her life, she obtains her own flame. Fire begins spreading through Jeannette s life at a young age. It all begins with catching her dress on fire while cooking hotdogs at three years old. When taken to the hospital, she is admitted with severe burns and is instructed to stay in the hospital. When her father Rex believes she has had a long enough stay in the hospital, Jeannette is checked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Excited by her find she locks herself in the bathroom and begins to light toilet paper and when the flame grows bigger, she throws it in the toilet. Jeannette makes the statement, I was torturing the fire, giving it life, and snuffing it out (p. 33). Her father does the same thing to the Walls family throughout their lives. Rex Walls will support and provide for his family for a period of time and then allow his job and their money to quickly wither away. As the children age they instantaneously learn to provide for themselves while away from home. Jeannette starts fending for herself by digging through the trashcans in the bathrooms during and after lunch. After finding herself food, she pulls her feet up onto the toilet and eats quietly so no one would catch her. Clearly she learns at a young age if she wants anything she will have to get it herself. Jeannette and her siblings all lower the expectations they have of their parents. After Jeannette learns to control the fire that consumes her life, she obtains her own ... • 3. Sister Act Sparknotes The Academy showcases their annual musical. The Sister Act begins with the protagonist, Deloris, who has ambitions of becoming the next big thing. Her life turns upside down when she catches her significant other murdering one of his employees. In order to secure safety, the police hide her in a convent. There, we meet the other sisters including Mother Superior who despises Deloris. However, Deloris saved the church by reconstructing their choir. As for the murderous husband, he was caught by the police when attending one of the mass ceremonies. The protagonist is Deloris Van Cartier who initially wanted to pursue a singing career. Sister Mary Robert was the youngest out of the others. She is a shy and innocent character who metamorphoses into a bold and confident sister. Unlike Sister Mary Robert, Sister Mary Patrick is always an outgoing and spontaneous character. Mother Superior acts as an antagonist for most of the performance. Lt. Eddie Souther is the policeman who helps Deloris and captures the primary antagonist who is Vince LaRocca. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is mainly due to the blocking and how boring the scene often got. The majority of the scene consisted of the characters sitting in the pews. This is the same concept for the sleeping scene. I could not decide on whether Deloris was exhausted or awake during this scene. The strongest aspects of the play are the singings and the ability that every main character could hit the notes. I do not recall any moments when the actors messed up or forgot their lines. Particularly, I was impressed by Pablo who spoke Spanish. The characters are more realistic compared to previous years, therefore, staying in character seems easy for this year s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER: CHANGE AND LEADERSHIP IN ACTION CHAPTER 20 OVERVIEW Chapter 20 Summary ___________________________________________________ The chapter opens with a case Robert F. Kennedy High School depicting the many problems facing David King, the new principal of a deeply troubled urban high school. A school that opened with high hopes only a few years ago now finds itself mired in conflict and dissatisfaction. King s first meeting with his new administrative staff produces a blow up in which a male housemaster physically threatens the chair of the English department. By the end of the case, the situation feels overwhelming. Is there hope? The authors follow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chapter 20: Replay and Critique of David King s Reframing _______________ There is value in having students compare their own thinking about the RFK High case with the reframing process depicted for David King in the chapter. One way to do this is to ask students to read the case, stop there, and engage in their own effort to reframe using the same questions David King used. (This can be done either individually or in groups.) Once students have developed their own diagnoses, they can read the remainder of the chapter and compare their thinking with David King s. Another option appears in Exercise 20.1. Chapter 20: Applying Reframing to Cases or Personal Experience_________ The chapter focuses on putting it all together: integrating everything learned about organizations and leadership into more comprehensive and powerful understanding and action. The reframing process illustrated in the chapter can be applied to almost any case or experience: students personal cases, published cases, films or fiction, or class experiences (role plays, experiential activities, team experiences, the course). Instructors can, for example, have students study a challenging case (multiple suggestions are offered elsewhere in this instructor s guide) and then, either individually or in teams, reframe to develop both diagnoses and solutions. This case of practice is a peer coaching situation completed with the physical education/weight lifting instructor at our high school. For the purpose of the assignment, the mentee will be referred to by the initials BK. The purpose of this practicum aligns with the following purposes from Carr s Peer Coaching Study Groups (2005): Understanding if student learning is meeting specific standards or moving toward meeting them. Helping teachers reflect on their teaching. Learning more about a student s thinking and learning needs and implications for instructions. Understanding learning needs for a small group of students, and Helping a presenting teacher solve a dilemma or problem in instruction. Identifying a coach/mentoring situation and conduct a needs assessment. I work with BK as a fellow related arts instructor in our district, as well as, being co advisors for the senior class. We teach different disciplines, however, we are similar in our teaching styles and must apply our professional development opportunities to our profession as most of the time our professional developments are not fully applicable to us and we attempt to do the best we can to fit our professional development materials to our content to better our teaching. BK has been teaching for thirteen years, which is one year longer than I and we have worked together for all twelve of my years in the district together at professional development events. • 6. The Effects Of Social Media On America There was no warning of the immense tragedy that hit southern Louisiana on Friday, August 12, 2016. A rain that came in harder than most hurricanes that have hit Louisiana. This down poor stayed in the same place for several days and did not stop. Social media had a huge effect on how this tragedy played out. Where help was being sent, who was okay and who was not okay. People resorted to using their phones to check on people and letting people know where help was needed with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, local news stations, and the radio. After everything slowed down and recovery started, everyone stuck together as a community. People posted GoFundMe pages on Facebook, started groups to start going out to neighborhoods to help work on houses also on Facebook, fundraiser concerts were promoted on Instagram. The local news stations showed where to go and what forms to fill out if they needed help with getting started on their homes. It was the second day of my senior year when I was woken up by rumbling thunder. My two younger sisters and I all got in my small convertible mustang and started to drive to school. I could not see through the window because my windshield wipers were not going fast enough to keep up with the rainfall. The country roads were flooded the second I started driving. Everyone was driving twenty to thirty miles an hour and driving in the middle of the roads because the sides were flooding. Once we barely arrived at school, we received a ... • 7. The Characteristics Of Raskolyevsky s Duality Vs. Dostoevsky One of the most peculiar traits about Raskolnikov is that despite him murdering two people, he still has moments during the novel when he helps others. One would not expect generosity to be present in a man with a superiority complex, yet at times he can be found donating the last of his kopecks even when, he himself, desperately needs them. At times, this duality can be confusing to the reader because it seems as if there are two Raskolnikov s. Which one then, is the true Raskolnikov? Despite Raskolnikov s attempt to set himself above the common man, he cannot deny his true nature, as shown when he saves a young girl from the malicious intentions of an older man. Before his interactions with the young girl, the reader sees Raskolnikov acting in a selfish manner. After reading his mother s letter Raskolnikov stating that Dunya is to marry a wealthy older man he thinks, how can she not sacrifice even such a daughter for the sake of such first born son! Oh, dear and unjust hearts (Dostoevsky 44)! Egocentrically, he incorrectly assumes that the decisions his family has made are entirely for his benefit. As a superior man , Raskolnikov does not need anyone s help at this point in his life. He is a man who is willing to kill for the sake of an idea. Further, he thinks he should be the one making decisions. Raskolnikov firmly states that it won t happen as long as I live, it won t, it won t! I don t accept it (Dostoevsky 44). Yet, by trying to control his family, it reveals how desperate he is to have order in his own life. Raskolnikov s life is falling apart, he has no job, owes money to his landlady, and (suffers from?) crippling anxiety. He uses his superior mindset as a coping mechanism to avoid addressing the problems that are plaguing his life. He does not have to take responsibility for them because he believes that his word is above the law. Therefore, his sister has to reject this marriage from Luzhin in his mind, showing the reader just how bad of a rut he is in life. This man is at his lowest point in life but he will not accept help from those that truly care about him. In his mind, control is the ultimate goal for him... yet, despite his selfish thoughts and controlling nature, he is involuntarily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are common goals for each different tort reform; some of these include To make it more difficult for injured people to file lawsuits To make it more difficult for injured people to obtain a jury trial To place limits on the amount of money injured people received in a lawsuit. Frivolous lawsuits are lawsuits that cannot be supported under existing legal precedent. Ten Traits Of Highly Effective Teachers Chapter 1 Summary In the book, Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals: From good to Great Performance, McEwan discusses the facilitator in chapter 4 (2003). She describes the facilitator as a leader with abilities to build strong relationships with parents, teachers, and students. One principal in the book, Bill, thought the students would learn more if their teachers are understanding, caring, and genuine as opposed with students who were taught by teachers that were not. This idea was tested and their findings were placed in a book entitled, Kids Don t Learn From People They Don t Like (Aspey Roebuck, 1977). The results of the study described the book perfectly. They found the students who have teachers who are compassionate, sincere, and have respect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Resplendent Quetzal Research Paper Title: Does the characteristics of Resplendent Quetzal s tail such as its length and color difference affect male s mating success during the courtship? Abstract: The resplendent quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) is a bird in the trogon family. It is found from Chiapas, Mexico to western Panama. It is well known for its colorful plumage. This species is 36 to 40 cm (14 16 in) long, plus up to 65 cm (26 in) of tail streamer for the male, and weighs about 210 g. Resplendent quetzals have a green body (showing iridescence from green gold to blue violet) and red breast. Their green upper tail coverts hide their tails and in breeding males are particularly splendid, being longer than the rest of the body. The primary wing coverts are also unusually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This trait not only influences the mating success of male resplendent quetzal, but also influencing the number of offspring in the living environment. If the results of this experiment reject my null hypothesis, which means that my hypothesis of the longer tail length of male resplendent quetzal, the higher rate for successful mating will be successfully established. Thus the characteristic of the long tail will increase resplendent quetzal s adaptability and leads to fitness. If the results of my experiment do not reject my null hypothesis, then the tail length is not an adaptation to increase fitness. There might be some possible errors during the experiment that leads to the wrong answer such as the monogamy breeding behavior of resplendent quetzal. However, there might be other interesting adaptations that are not been tested and we can still use this trait to investigate another function, for example, instead of tail length that may affect the mating success, the brightness of the color of the tail may be the trait that can increase the fitness of breeding. By investigating how different brightness of the tail may influence the mating success, I would like to have three male and female resplendent quetzals with similar behaviors and characteristics as my test samples. Because most color that appear among quetzal species are green, thus, I would like to paint each quetzal s tail with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Implications Of Dual Language Immersion Dual language education benefits both English dominant students and English language learners with a goal of helping students to become bilingual, bicultural and biliterate. This paper will explore the Implications of Dual Language Immersion programs in US schools. While dual language education has existed in the United States for roughly two centuries, and it reached its height of popularity in the 1970s, the use of dual language education in public schools has declined significantly in recent decades due to legislative actions that have sought to limit its use. When used, dual language education is generally seen as a way to ensure that non English speaking students, or students who are not yet proficient in English, are given equitable opportunities to succeed in and complete their education. While schools and teachers may use a wide variety of dual language strategies, each with its own specific instructional goals, the programs are typically designed to simultaneously develop English fluency, content knowledge, and academic language the knowledge, skills, and cultural proficiencies needed to succeed in an academic program. • 14. Discourse On Livy Niccolò Machiavelli is very well known as an important and influential Italian historian, politician, philosopher, and writer during the Renaissance. His book, Discourses on Livy, is a discussion regarding the classical history of early Ancient Rome, although it uses contemporary political examples and strays far away from the subject of Rome at times. It is presented as a series of lessons on how a republic should be started and structured. Most importantly, it constantly brings up the idea of corruption and corrupt people, which is not surprising because we all desire things and search for the simplest way to obtain it, even though the easiest way to obtain something might be a corrupt way. When Machiavelli uses the term corrupt or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems more difficult to change the regime. This is the source of corruption. When one class of society strives to better themselves and succeed in doing so, it causes corruption. Machiavelli spends a chunk of Discourses on Livy discussing how states are corrupt and the citizens within them are corrupt as well. The first important point he makes when it comes to corruption is that men do not know how to be entirely good or bad. He claims, they concluded that men clearly do not know how to be honourably bad or perfectly good, and that when an evil deed contains in itself some grandeur or some generosity, they do not know how to carry it out (Machiavelli 82). Thus, Machiavelli is elaborating on the theme of good and bad and how even those who are good and are not considered corrupt still make bad decisions sometimes. Generally, men decide on a middle course, instead of choosing a completely good or bad course. This decision is seen as most hazardous because it is hard to claim someone is good if they do not make entirely good decisions and it is hard to claim someone is bad if they do not make entirely bad decisions. The second important point Machiavelli makes is that men are easily corrupted and even those who are good can easily turn bad. • 16. The Importance Of Collectivism In Japanese Culture Collectivism also affects how the Japanese make decisions within their companies. Unlike their counterparts in Western business organizations, Japanese executives and managers are not real independent decision makers (Samovar 268). While Western businesses usually adopt a top to bottom approach to decision making, Japanese businesses operate under a more democratic approach. Japanese CEOs rarely make decisions on their own for fear of backlash from the overall group. Rather, they adopt what is called a ringi style of decision making that promotes harmony, cooperation, and consensus within the organization (Samovar 267). Before any major decisions are made, the CEO confirms that all members of the group have reached an agreement. In The Silent Language, Edward Hall claims that what people do is frequently more important then what they say (Hall Silent Language 2). Furthermore, non verbal communication research shows that over 70% of interpersonal interaction happens non verbally (LaCour 66). Words convey what a person wants you to think, but a person s actions express what they are actually feeling. Thus, it should come as no surprise that perhaps the most important aspect of effective communication within Japanese culture is non verbal communication. Within the theme of non verbal communication in Japan comes the subject of high contextuality. Marble Drop Lab Report Bryan Ruef Period 6 AP Physics Lab Report Marble Drop Experiment Problem: This lab was designed to prove that the height of an object launched on a ramp is relational to the distance it goes off the ramp. Hypothesis: When releasing a marble off of a ramp on a table, the higher up that the marble starts on the ramp, the farther it should land from the table on the ground. Design: We placed a small ramp on a table and used clamps to ensure the ramp wouldn t move and change our results. With tape, we marked each height we would drop the marble from. Using a meter stick, we measured the height of the table, base of the ramp, and the height of each place the marble would be dropped. On our paper, which we taped to the ground to prevent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This positive slope shows that as the ramp heights increased, so did the distance the marbles traveled. However, there were problems with the experiment. First, the meter stick did not have perfect ends. This caused uncertainty because the measurements were not accurate. The meter stick was not compared with others to see if it was reasonably close. Another error was that we did not have a constant release method. We placed the marble on the ramp each time and just let go. The marble could have stuck to our hand and been released higher or lower than we wanted it to. Also, there could have been human error since we released the marble by hand and we could have moved up or down accidentally. The final error was that we used multiple different marbles for the lab. They could have had different weights or shapes. Even the slightest difference in shape would affect where it landed. Solutions to the meter stick error are simple. We could have bought a new meter stick with perfect ends. If we were not able to buy one, we could have compared it to many other meter sticks and used whichever one was most ... At first, my intent was to volunteer for an organization called Fresh Roots , but due to a scheduling conflict, I chose UBC Farm, which is no less essential in its impact in Vancouver s sustainability. In theory, the environmental movement has succeeded in many of its basic goals, such as bringing attention to local and global problems, educating the public on simple sustainable actions, and starting an international conversation. Nevertheless, there are many issues concerning the climate and living species that have not been resolved yet. The UBC Farm houses The Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (CSFS), which aims to change global and local food systems to be more Eco friendly and food secure. They try to find new ways to solve challenges that the sustainability of food systems face, and thus enhance community, personal and environmental health. Their group s mission is to create a healthy environment through interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative research, and educational engagement with the community. The centre also strives to increase land productivity, and advance ecosystem services; starting from supply (habitat, fuel, food, etc.) all the way to the end product (greenhouse gas, waste). However, little is knows about this country despite its proximity to the United States. The Duvaliers caused a lot of injustice toward Haitians. In Edwidge Danticat s Krik? Krak!, originally published in 1991, she brings out the suffering and violence that were witnessed in Haiti through the resilience of strong women. Josephine s mother in Nineteen Thirty Seven and Marie in Between the Pool and the Gardenias represent the strength of women, which plays a significant part in most of the stories in her book; yet, their powers are seen as false and threatening. In Nineteen Thirty Seven, Danticat uses Josephine as the narrator, who speaks of her imprisonment for being a witch, having managed to cross a bloody river when she fled from the Dominican Republic (DR) to Haiti. At this time close to 20,000 Haitian workers were brutally murdered in the DR. In Between the Pool and the Gardenias, Danticat introduces the reader to Marie, who picks up a dead baby in the street and decides to name it Rose. Phonemes In The English Language Question 1 Language is a very important system of communication that can be either spoken, written, or consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way. Language has the profound ability to be communicated either verbally or nonverbally, using the movements of the lips (reading lips), hands (motions), and even body language as methods of communication. Language widely varies among communities and one s abilities (hearing, mobility, etc). Phonemes, or the smallest unit of sounds in a spoken/sign language are imperative due to the fact they help distinguish one word from another. Each phoneme represents a different sound a person can make. There are forty four phonemes in the English language, and hundreds of spelling alternatives that can be used to represent them. The range between these two points is the melting point. The melting point is used to determine the purity of a substance because if the substance is pure then its melting point will be higher. Previous to this, the Jim Crow laws were used as justification for denying African Americans soldiers the opportunity to become pilots in the military. Analysis Of Yaa Gyasi s Homegoing In Yaa Gyasi s Homegoing, discovering and exploring, the obvious and hidden, traumas and their subsequent effects on each generation is one of the most compelling parts of her highly acclaimed first novel. Set on Ghana s Gold Coast in the 1700s, two sisters, who have never met, create generations of descendants who experience traumas continuously. Some generations experience the first hand the effects of slavery and the African slave trade, while others deal with the repercussions of belonging to a tribe of Africans that sold humans into slavery. Because the experience of trauma is continuous, the descendants of both sister, Esi and Effia, are never fully able to heal. Instead, the consequences of war, rape, kidnapping, violence and death are explored in the three hundred years since birth of the sisters. Past and current traumas shape the identities of each generation. Gysai s narrative tells and retells the violent histories of both families in an attempt to help heal trauma that still remains imbedded in many Africans, and African Americas. Homegoing has been described by Michiko Kakutani of the New York Times as wildly ambitious which is an understatement for a novel that attempts to cover three hundred plus years of atrocities against African and African Americans in three hundred page. The novel s structure includes fourteen vignettes that allow readers to enter each character s life at a traumatic moment, but fails to develop any one character completely. ... I love the Creative Curriculum books because it offers premade parent letters that explain what the children are learning while they play in the different areas. During Ancient Greece, the value of Kleos or glory is equivalent to fame and honor. Kleos is split into two different aspects including war stories and privileges in the underworld. The people of Ancient Greece tell and remember the war stories of Achilles, Odysseus, and Ajax during the Trojan War. The other aspect of kleos is that the souls that achieved glory during life were given privileges in the underworld. Greek culture is also known for hero worshiping. • 43. Plate Tectonics And Its Effects On The World Maybe the most ideal approach to see how Pinnacles started is to envision that you are viewing a video shot somewhere in the range of 60 million years prior completion at the present time. Not wishing to see something that is milleniums long, you accelerate the activity by keeping your finger on the quick forward catch. Regardless. At last regardless you know the story all around ok to rehash it. Plate Tectonics At the point when the video starts, the mainlands have the structure we know today; the vast majority of the world s extraordinary mountain reaches are set up, and the Pacific Ocean is so far inland that a large portion of California s beach front mountains don t exist. Yet, they are going to be conceived on account of something many refer to as plate tectonics. Geologists trust that the world s hull is isolated into huge plates that fit together like the bits of a mammoth jigsaw riddle. These plates are thought to move persistently, for the most part on a level plane. As per geologic hypothesis, the plates meet in no less than three ways, and two of these are imperative to our story: subduction zones (where one plate moves underneath the other), and change limits (where the two plates grind past each other). At some point around sixty million years prior, when our video starts, the lighter weight North American Plate started abrogating or subducting the denser Farallon plate, and as it did, its external edge went about as a bulldozer, gathering up ... • 44. Essay on The Diving Bell and the Butterfly The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is written from the point of view of Jean Dominique Bauby, a French journalist and former editor in chief of ELLE magazine, in Paris. Bauby suffered a severe stroke on December 8, 2005, leaving him with a rare condition known as locked in syndrome, in which the brain continues to function normally, but the body is completely paralyzed. Jean Do retained some movement in his head and left eye, and wrote his memoir through a tedious method of blinking. An interlocutor would read aloud a special alphabet, ordered by their frequency of use in French language, and Bauby would blink whenever the person reached the correct letter (Wikipedia). Through this method, the reader is offered a glimpse into the mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jean goes on to share his experiences at the hospital, explaining his life on a day to day basis. He talks about his different doctors and therapists, the tortures that come with an inability to move, and what it s like to be bathed, dressed, and fed. His right eye is eventually sewn up, as the eyelid no longer functioned. Bauby describes the communication code he sets up with his speech therapist, Sandrine, in which she recites the alphabet and he blinks when she calls the right letter. Friends and family sometimes visit Jean Do. He recounts a day he spent with his children and their mother, on the beach, for father s day, among other visits. Bauby also reminisce about his life before the stroke, recalling his early days as a journalist, shaving his father, a pilgrimage he once took with his lover, and, finally, the day of his stroke. At the end of the book, Bauby sees the contents of a half open purse on a nearby table, a hotel room key, a metro ticket, and a hundred franc note, and realizes that these ordinary objects have become alien to him: remnants of a way of life he has become a stranger to. This forces Bauby to realize that he is beginning a new life, and must acknowledge this in order to move ahead. This differs from the beginning of the book, in which he only displays a longing for life to return to how it was before the stroke. It is not until he truly accepts his condition that Bauby s mind is able to soar like a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Characteristics Of Child-Directed Speech ( CDS ) Talking to children has always been fundamental to language development, but new research reveals that the way we talk to children is key to building their ability to understand and create sentences of their own. The exaggerated speech we naturally use with young children is a special register often called motherese (Medical Xpress , 2011). Moreover, child directed speech (CDS) plays an important role in language acquisition because while modifying and adjusting speech to a child, this keeps their attention and meets the needs of providing understanding to the young addressee. Child directed speech (CDS), also referred to as infant directed speech (IDS) or motherese is a speech register that is characterized by pitch and intonation, slower speech rates with pauses in between words, shorter simple sentences and frequent repetition (O Brien, 2017). Moreover, the role child directed speech (CDS) plays in language acquisition is that it modifies and adjusts speech directed to children and keeps their attention as well as meets the needs of providing understanding to the young addressee (Clarke, p. 45). This paper will examine the cultural variations embedded in child directed speech (CDS) and how the characteristics of child directed speech (CDS) differ cross culturally. Specifically, this essay will show evidence of cultural variation from several case studies by focusing on the differences and similarities in prosodic characteristics within child directed speech (CDS) ... The HEXA gene provides instruction for making part of an enzyme called beta hexosaminidase A, which plays a very critical role in the brain and spinal cord. This enzyme is found in the lysosomes, which are the structures in cells that break down toxic substances and their job is that of a recycling center. Beta hexosaminidase A helps break down a fatty substance called GM2 ganglioside. The mutations in the HEXA gene disrupt the activity of beta hexosaminidase A, which prevents the enzyme from breaking down GM2 ganglioside. As a result, this substance accumulates to toxic levels, particularly in the neutrons in the brain and also the spinal cord. • 49. The Cold Side Of Concrete There are many places having long cold season. Due to time constraints, many constructions inevitably do concreting in winter. The cold injury of concrete are that flake peeling is caused by the freeze thaw damage of concrete surface material and internal damage produced in the concrete may lead to concrete properties. Prevention the cold damage of concrete in winter construction is important. According to the article, Energy Efficient Approach to Cold Weather Concreting , Barna, Seman, and Korhonen(2011) introduce a new approach to cold weather concreting which is antifreeze concrete. They thinks that traditional cold weather concreting method is expensive and energy in efficient, because traditional method requires artificial heating of the materials and needs to create a suitable environment for curing normal concrete. This study compare the estimated annual cost in 1991 and in 2011 to show the antifreeze concrete result in saving money and explains an initial laboratory tests to show that antifreeze concrete mixtures are capable of being workable, entraining air, and meeting the design freezing point. The authors also explains a performance test to show that the strength gain of concrete cured at 4°C is same as cured at +5°C, and that antifreeze mixtures made concrete be durable. Thus, they conclude that the antifreeze concrete doesn t need artificial heating which results in saving time, money, and energy in constructing process. The article is convincing. The ... Although Walton s mistake does not cause him physical harm, the failure of his enterprise is a shame worse than death: in his own words, I had rather die than return shamefully my purpose unfulfilled (218). Through both the monster and Walton, Shelley also points out that while lack of caution may not have mortal consequences, the results will nevertheless be severe. Shelley reiterates this message throughout Frankenstein, One should always be cautious, and never be so rushed to finish a project that the normal rules of safety are cast aside. The author conveys her belief by revealing the reasoning of Frankenstein during the creation of the two monsters. During the making of the first monster, Frankenstein is almost driven insane with his desire to succeed. He tells Walton, My eyeballs were starting from their sockets in attending to the details of my employment...my eyes were insensible to the charms of nature... I also forgot my friends who were so many miles absent and whom I had not seen in quite a long time (55). Frankenstein s words reveal the deleterious results of being incautious, he did not notice the seasons change, nor did he think of his friends, his body also suffers the consequences of his wild frenzy to finish his work. However, when the monster approaches Frankenstein to create a female daemon, Frankenstein is slightly wiser after suffering the loss of several of his loved ones. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Human Reproductive Cloning Should be Banned Essay Human Reproductive Cloning Should be Banned The issues concerning human reproductive cloning are shrouded in controversy, perhaps overshadowing the true advantages of cloning technology. Therapeutic cloning, which is often misunderstood as reproductive cloning, is less controversial than the latter as it does not involve the creating of an individual being. Instead, vital stem cells are extracted from human embryos, in order to generate tissues and organs for transplant. The goal of this process is strictly to harvest stem cells, resulting in the creation of cloned organs , which can be used to treat heart disease, Alzheimer s, and cancer. However, because reproductive cloning involves the creation of a specific being with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . concerns can be addressed when reproductive cloning has been shown to be safe in animals, which it has not yet. (Paulson) The success rate by means of reproductive cloning remains pale in comparison to natural procreation, and thus does not justify cloning as a form of procreation for the time being. The current success rate for reproductive cloning stands at one or two viable offspring per 100 experiments, and until the success rate drastically increases, cloning humans would be potentially dangerous and unethical. The dangers that arise from reproductive cloning are numerous, and are enough to validate the banning of human reproductive cloning altogether. During mammalian reproductive cloning, a large proportion of clones suffered from weakened immune systems, which greatly compromised the animal s ability to fight off infection, disease, and other disorders. Animal experiments in cloning all indicate that a cloned twin is at high risk of congenital defects, multiple health problems and perhaps a greatly shortened life span. (Paulson) In addition, many of the offspring produced through cloning suffer massive abnormalities, such as missing or deformed organs. Approximately 30% of offspring are diagnosed with large offspring syndrome and other debilitating conditions. In fact, studies on reproductive cloning have shown that more than 90% of ...
