Susan B. Anthony And The Equal Pay Act
Imagine being told that you do not need as much pay as a man because your husband is a professor
and you do not need the money. This was the truth for Maxine Lampe when she addressed the school
district about being paid less. Before her husband was done with graduate school, she brought the
issue up with the school where she worked and was told that she could not get the head of household
pay that men received, even though she was the breadwinner. This is not the only account of this
happening. All over the country, women are getting paid less than men and being told that it s okay. It
is not okay.
Gender equality is something that has been a problem through the ages. Susan B. Anthony and many
others fought for the right to vote which was granted in 1920. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy
signed the Equal Pay Act into law stating that no employer can discriminate based on gender. The
American Association of University Women published a graph on Women s Median Annual Earnings
as a Percentage of Men s Median Annual Earnings for Full time, Year round Workers, 1974 2014 and
it shows that in 1974, women were paid 59% of what men were paid. The graph shows the
improvements over the years and that in 2014, women were paid 79% of what men were paid. The gap
has not budged since 2014. The gender pay gap has improved over the years, but it will not close until
new legislation passes.
Over time, the gap has changed for the better. The gap has improved for many reasons but many of

Fiscal Federalism in Nigeria
CHAPTER1
INTRODUCTION:
The question of an acceptable formula for revenue sharing among the component tiers of the Nigerian
nation is one of the most protracted and controversial debates in the political and macroeconomic
management of the economy. This debate has its foundations in the history and evolution of the
Nigerian federation.
Revenue allocation or the statutory distribution of revenue from the Federation Account among the
different levels of government has been one of the most contentious and controversial issues in the
nation s political life. So contentious has the matter been that none of the formulae evolved at various
times by a commission or by decree under different regimes since 1964 has gained general
acceptability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(e) Principle of Fiscal Equalization: In order to ensure a minimum level of public goods and services
same degree of fiscal equalization is required. This is as a result of differences in resource endowment.
(f) The Efficiency Principle: This principle implies that efficiency must be applied in the allocation of
resources
(g) The Principle of Derivation: The component units of a system should be able to control some of its
own resources as they desire.
(h) The Principle of Locational Neutrality: Interregional fiscal differences tend to influence location
choices of individuals and firms. Therefore, policy should focus on minimizing distortions due to
some interference. Hence, differential taxes which create locational distortions should be avoided as
much as practicable.
(i) The Principle of Centralized Redistribution: This principle states that the redistribution function of
fiscal policy through progressive taxation and expenditure programmes should be centralized at the
federal level. That is, if the redistributive function is decentralized, it can result in distortions in
location decisions. It should be noted that the above principles are not mutually consistent.

The Tone Of August Wilson
The tone that August Wilson uses is an approachable and lofty blend at the same time. To begin with
the protagonist of fences, Troy is a mindful man whose dreams are obstructed, this makes him have
confidence in self made fantasies. The play first begins with an entertaining story about his struggle
with a personified Death character.
In addition to this Troy has the ability to live in a fictitious world, denying his affair with Alberta. Troy
instigates conflict as a result of his ability to believe in self made illusions and his inability to
acknowledge other s decisions in life when they vary from Troy s own philosophy. Troy s name
symbolically exhibits Troy s character as one who lives on a line between two contradicting thoughts.
Troy Maxson begins the play loved, admired and getting away with his secret affair. Yet, inevitably,
Troy s death leaves many negative characteristics as a legacy for his family to deal with and
acknowledge.
Although this may be true, the setting is set in the dirt yard of the Maxson house. All this seems
notable that the Maxson s aren t the richest people in town. Clearly, the set remind us that money is a
constant concern for Troy and his family. They relay in Troy s salary as garbage collector.
Furthermore, we see that August Wilson did name his play Fences because of the dramatic action
depends strongly on the building of a fence in the Maxson s backyard. The character s lives change
around the fence which serves as both a literal and a

Summary Of Jesse Smiles A Small Grin
Jesse smiles another small grin. I asked how you found your way into theatre.
The waiter interrupts, and they order drinks, and Casey orders spaghetti with meatballs and Jesse has
the same, hold the meatballs. Casey scans his brain for reasons why, but then he figures he should
answer Jesse s question, so: I was actually born in Cali. My father is American, and Mum s British,
but when I was well, the times then, it wasn t too great in California, so we moved to the UK.
Jesse looks like he s figuring something out in his head when he interrupts, The war started.
Casey nods. It wasn t brilliant foresight on their part, but who saw anything coming? Thinking about
that time makes him think about the smells in London, the rubble, the destruction then living with it
for many years after the war. It s painful, it ll probably always be so, but he forges on to get through
this part. The only escape for me was the pictures, when we could afford it. I d watch, and when we d
go see something from America I d think about my birthplace and just, he squeezes his eyes shut,
trying to remember the feeling of the Carlton Cinema in Canonbury in the northern part of the city, the
seats and biggest screen he d ever seen.
I d imagine I was elsewhere, a place that felt safe where I could be somebody else, which was, in fact
myself. He opens his eyes, feeling silly, but when he does he sees Jesse s eyes locked on him, lips
parted. Rapt. I I had a hard time being

The Is The Party Of God
Abstract
When translated, Hezbollah means The Party of God. However, as we examine the history,
demographics, agenda, methodology and target choices and affiliation assignments and contributions
of Hezbollah, we discover that this organization was established with perhaps one goal in mind and
that is to strike fear into the hearts of those that oppose an Islamic state in Lebanon. Therefore, as the
self proclaimed Party of God, based on the history of their activities and actions, they appear to be
something entirely different.
History
Since the establishment of Hezbollah in 1982 as part of the Iranian government s Revolutionary
Guard, according to Spindlove et al (2010, pp. 249 252), the goal of this organization has since been
the creation of an independent Islamic state exclusive of the nation of Lebanon. Moreover, according
to a compilation of information by Berman (2015), it is widely believed that the Hezbollah ideology
spawned during the Iranian Revolution. During this revolution, the rhetoric called upon Muslims to
over through governments that oppressed them and their beliefs. Within Lebanon, according to
perceptions of the Hezbollah leaders, the United States (U.S.) was ultimately to blame for the
oppression of Lebanese Muslims and their beliefs while, simultaneously, viewing Israel as an
extension of the U.S. and its policies within the region. Led by religious clerics, in addition to their
desire for independence, the Hezbollah organization adopted an

The Effects Of Music On African Music Essay
Music has been around for a very long time. Especially African Music. Throughout many centuries,
African music has changed. Just like any music today, the beat, the style, and even the dances have
always been different and changing in Africa. There are many forms of African music that we think
we may know but we don t. Traditional music for us might be any song we play during certain
holidays or special gatherings and then continuing that throughout the years. Unlike in Africa, their
form of traditional music is very different. African music back then when written, was associated with
specific ethnic groups. An original artist, focused his style on items that were very creative. The main
source they used to write a song was based on archeological items and other human nature things as
well. They were very intrigued and used photographic paintings on items such as rocks, many books
and other picture motions to get inspired. This is how any original artist got his or her idea and based
its song on daily life items. (1. African Music. )
Like many other historical things, African music has been written, and re written for another vocalist
to interpret them. This has been going on for so many generations that have been found through
written excerpts found in journals of western explorers. Many of these writings were based on
frameworks and different biographies under diverse categories. It is very fascinating how this type of
music affects and influences the discussion of

Human Trafficking And The Media
Human trafficking has become an emerging worldwide public health crisis that has been understudied
and under published by both society and the media. Human trafficking has affected men, woman, and
children in varying ways. Human trafficking is not solely sex trafficking it is segmented into various
categories. Trafficking includes but is not limited to sexual exploitation, forced labor, debt bondage,
involuntary servitude, and trafficking of cells and organs. The way the media frames human
trafficking has a rippling effect towards the audience and societies perspective. Positively using the
media can influence society and can possibly help fight against human trafficking. The Convention on
the Rights of the Child (CRC), along with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of
Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and the 14th Amendment have all stated their views
against human trafficking. The United States Department of State (2015) states, trafficking in persons,
human trafficking, and modern slavery have been used as umbrella terms for the act of recruiting,
harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining a person for compelled labor or commercial sex acts
through the use of force, fraud, or coercion (p. 7). Human trafficking is mostly thought of as sex
trafficking of woman and children but this is not the only way traffickers use woman and children.
Women, children, and men are all subject to different types of servitude. The most widely recognized

Sea Dragon Research Paper
espite their small size, sea dragons are carnivorous animals and therefore have a purely meat based
diet. The sea dragon uses its pipe like snout to suck its prey into its oddly tooth less mouth. Sea
dragons hunt crustaceans, plankton, shrimp and even small fish, using their camouflage to their
advantage. Sea dragons have numerous natural predators in the south and western coastal waters of
Australia but are rarely even spotted to the elaborate camouflage of the sea dragon. Those few sea
dragons that are unlucky enough to be found, are usually spotted by large fish. As with sea horses, it is
the male sea dragon who care for the eggs once they have been laid by the female. The female lays
around 250 eggs onto the long tail of the male sea horse. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sea dragon is a small, delicate fish found in the tropical coastal waters of south and west
Australia. Sea dragons look similar to and are in fact closely related to sea horses. There are two
different species of sea dragon which are the leafy sea dragon and the weedy sea dragon. Although
both sea dragon species have a similar body shape and size, they are very different in appearance. The
leafy sea dragon is the master of camouflage, and being able to hide itself so easily amongst the plants
means that the leafy sea dragon is rarely eaten, despite having numerous potential predators in the
surrounding water. The weedy sea dragon does not look so elaborate, only having a few feather fins
along its back. The weedy sea dragon has adapted to life on the sea bed as these feathery (weed like)
fins help the sea dragon to camouflage into the debris on the sea floor. The baby sea dragons are
completely independent once they have hatched and feed on tiny nutritious particles in the

The United States Enforced Laws About Having Kids
How would most people feel if the United States enforced laws about having kids? If we as a society
don t change either how we live or the laws involving children, we will have generations of people
using Uncle Sam as a crutch. The rate of births among women ages 15 to 44 increased by 1% from
2013 to 2014, the first increase since 2007, which might be a trend that if we don t fix this problem
soon so many more might grow up that way. One in five children receives food stamps or some kind
of aid so says the census bureau. Mandatory laws on having children should be enforced in the United
States because of the high amount of government supported children, and the number of questionable
parent(s). First reason, the number of government supported children is enormous, and with a
projected baby boom on its way after the previous recession. To fix that the government could put in
place laws restricting the number of children a family can have. The government could either restrict a
family s number of children based on total income. As in low class to middle low class families have
one or two children. Where at the same time the high class, and middle high class families might have
two to four children. Or the government could put in a law for everyone. They could much like china
did and only allow one child to be born. Or base it off of the number of parents raising the children.

Professor John Nash s A Beautiful Mind
There are no facts, only interpretations. These words from Frederick Nietzsche poignantly illustrate
the notion that one s reality is inevitably shaped by the influence of other s around us. The set of
values according to which one judges everyday events upon is the result of the reality formed based on
other s interpretations of the world. When one lacks the knowledge to develop a sound reality, one
relies upon the reality of others to come to a sensible interpretation. However, though one may be
adamant that the reality that one experiences is real, others continual influence upon them may
eventually persuade them and thus conform to the newfound reality. Nevertheless, it is still dependant
on the individual on the way they deal with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even when an individual has a strong consolidated reality of their world, it is still susceptible to other
s influence and may eventually conform to this alter reality that is so strongly condoned by people
surrounding them. Though one s reality, formed by experiences of childhood and memory, may be
strong and seemingly concrete, the persistent encouragement from others that the particular reality is
false may yet have an immense impact on one s reality. In Ron Howard s adaptation of the biography
of Professor John Nash, A Beautiful Mind, the notion that one s consolidated reality can succumb to
other s influence is profoundly illustrated. Professor John Nash suffers from schizophrenia, and hence
has illusions of people that do not exist. Though he had been strongly convinced that these people do
not exist, he still sees them. However, he acknowledges them to be non existent and a figment of his
imagination. This poignantly expounds the strength of impact that other s influence has on one s
interpretation of reality and indeed strongly disproves the idea that Seeing is Believing . Though
Professor Nash s illusions are caused by a mental disorder, it nonetheless shows the effect that the
desire to fit in to society or

A Product Of Clean Edge
Intro: A product that was finishing trials was to soon end up on the shelf of every major retailer in the
world. Paramount, a global market leader in the consumer non disposable razor industry is planning to
launch a new product into the market by the name of Clean Edge. Clean Edge is an innovative,
premium priced, new razor whose goal is to increase Paramount s market share, sales and inevitably
profit. As a company, Paramount has a strong history in the industry, entering the market back in 1962
and growing to a $13 billion company in 2009. Paramount specializes in disposable razors, cartridges,
shaving cream and depilatories and currently has two razor products already on the market, Pro and
Avail. With the launch of Clean Edge, management experiences conflicting ideas; Paramount is unsure
of how to best position Clean Edge within the growing market, considering the competition launched
a similar product right before the Clean Edge launch. The company is torn between two primary
options, a niche position, targeting a small market with a premium razor versus a mainstream position,
targeting a broader market by presenting an innovative product. After analyzing marketing budgets,
market share, operating profit, branding strategy and allocations for 2008 and 2009, it is concluded
that Paramount should engage in a niche position, which as per Appendix C will generate the higher
profit of $31.37 compared to the $2.84 in profit generated by a mainstream position. Clean Edge

The Relationship Between The Sat Scores And Family Income...
IB Math SL Internal Assessment: What is the relationship between the SAT scores and family income
of candidates around the world? By: Rahul Suresh What is the relationship between the SAT scores
and family income of candidates around the world? Introduction: The SAT is a standardized test
widely used for college and university admissions in the United States. It was first introduced in 1926,
and its name and scoring system have changed several times throughout the years. Many students
around the world that want to pursue post secondary institutions in the US make it a point to write the
SAT at least once in their high school career to better their chances of getting a higher score. This test
has three parts to it one reading, writing and one math. In order to achieve the best score that they can
possibly get and be placed in the highest possible percentile, students may decide to attend SAT
preparation classes starting from the early years of High/Middle School. The unfortunate reality of
these extra preparation courses is that they are quite expensive, and due to this, they mostly cater
towards to higher or higher middle class families. Courses that provide extra preparation such as Ivy
Global are not very affordable to many families and so students. According to many statistics and
news reports, the higher the test taker s family income, the higher their scores in the test. This has
been a topic of great controversy as we have grown in the modern society

Transportation Has A Part Of Human History
Transportation has been a part of human history since the beginning be it walking on foot on a trail
through the forests, ships across the oceans, roads created by the horse or horse and carriage, to the
rail roads that transected the United States to modern roadways. Many advancements on roadways
throughout the years were made as each new form of transportation was improved. Then one day man
could fly and hence another form of transportation made it possible for man to go from place to place
in a fraction of the time compared to car or rail road. Along with these improved modes of
transportation came new and inherent risks like head on collisions in vehicles, planes falling from the
sky, and tunnel collapses in subways. With risk and threat comes the need for security and safety
practices. Cars were made safer and roadways were improved to include guard rails, painted lines,
traffic lights and stop signs. As the population grew so did the need to expand the ability to move
about. Interstates were built, airports were built and subways were now a means of travel in the urban
setting. As technology and the transportations system grew so did the threat and risk of damage from
either natural or manmade disasters. We take for granted every day the roads we travel believing or
thinking that nothing can or will happen to them where we live. So how what would happen if the
transportation system suffered a major attack or damage? Roadways deliver goods by way of tractor

Goggin and Mitchell (2010) states that Comparing the various definitions of innovation, it can be seen
that there are several common elements what is changed (such as product or process changes); how
much is changed (whether it is completely new or only perceived as such); the source of the change
(sometimes technology); the influence of the change (for example, its social or commercial value)
Elster (1983) defines innovation as the production of new technical knowledge
Innovation is normally used to denote the process that takes place when a product or a process is
developed, from idea to market; the concept of invention only denotes the process that takes place
when new ideas or solutions are generated. Baumol (2002) argues is it possible to have lots of
inventions and still lack innovations. Nevertheless, inventions are a necessary precondition for
innovation .
2.2.4. Why innovation matters
As Albert Einstein said, If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always
got. This quote is applicable for organisation and fully underpins the value of having a culture of
innovation in order to meet short, medium and long term objectives.
Tidd and Bessant (2009) argued that Unless an organization is able to move into further innovation, it
risks being left behind as others take the lead in changing their offerings, their operational processes or
the underlying models that drive their business .
The aim for an organisation to innovate

The Importance of Literary Devices in The Seven Ages of...
All the world s a stage the men and women merely players . This line is the beginning of the The
Seven Ages of Man and is a recurring question throughout the poem. You may wonder how the world
is stage, and through his use of similes, metaphors, and imagery Shakespeare explains this elaborates
on this question.
William Shakespeare s use of similes in the Seven Ages of Man helps to start the poem and give it a
meaning early on by adding emphasis on certain topics. For example in the beginning he uses the men
and women merely players (Line 2) to explain that people don t own the world but live in it. By using
this simile he explains how people progress through life like a play, making an entrance to the stage
and leaving afterwards. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore Shakespeare compares The Last Age to childishness and oblivion meaning that after you
have gone through all the stages everything you have built up demolishes and you start back at the
first stage. The last line of the poem helps you to determine how the play ends and because this
comparison is made it makes you aware of people in your life that have gone through a few of the
stages described by Shakespeare. Giving you the idea that the stages may occur in your life but in the
end it really doesn t matter what you have done, because it will most likely be destroyed. The idea that
what you have developed will be demolished makes you wonder what you are doing and have done
with your life.
Imagery is prominent in The Seven Ages of Man and is used to give meaning to a line or phrase
meaning while creating complex images. When Shakespeare describes the boy as a creeping snail and
sighing like a furnace you can image a drowsy boy who is on his way to school, but when described as
having a shining morning face it gives you a completely different idea. By placing two differential
images close together Shakespeare creates two separate moods in a few lines, which helps to
determine the difference between two phases. Later on in the poem he uses the same strategy and says
the man is bearded like a pard , portraying the image of a slightly older man who has moved on from
the childish phase of the young schoolboy. He also says he

Psychiatrists, businessmen, lawyers, and marketers sometimes have the same traits as Machiavellians
and narcissists. To test that statement Shelby Hunt and Lawrence Chonko gave a group of professional
marketers the Machiavellian scale to see how many of the same traits they shared with con artists.
Results of the scale, showed that over ten percent scored in the highest possible range. Then, Richard
Christie and Florence Geis, Machiavellian researchers, concluded that the highest Machiavellian scale
scorers were psychiatrists. Psychiatry s central point of control is manipulation and mental control
meaning that is probably why they were the highest scorers. So, all con artists do not have to be

The Discovery Of The Museum Curator
Becoming the museum curator is an important title, they pick and choose the 5% of the total art, the
museum has to be viewed by the public. The curator must be wise and make exhibits that flow as well
as get the point across to the visitors coming to see the museum. Curating this exhibit, I have chosen
three works of ancient Greek art that will tell a story and inform visitors about three of the most well
known Greek gods. A statue of Zeus from the first A.D, a Kylix of Hades and Persephone, and the
Chariot of Poseidon. This collection of ancient Greek artwork shows the sons of the titan Chrono s,
and it depicts them in their natural habitat.
Hades is the oldest of the titan Cronus sons and best associated with Satan from the Cristian religion.
Hades was supposed to inherit all of the lands above, but with an unfortunate draw of the straws with
his brothers Poseidon, and Zeus. Hades was bound to the land down under known as Hades. For the
exhibit the museum has chosen a wonderful ancient Greek Kylix, this depicts the daughter of Zeus and
goddess of harvest/ Queen of the underworld Persephone, and the king of the underworld Hades.
Hades and Persephone banqueting. On a long couch of which the legs are partly seen, Hades,
supporting a large keras on his left, holding up a fluted phiale in his right, reclines to right, leaning on
two embroidered cushions . This artwork depicts the love of the cold blooded god of the underworld
and his beautiful wife. Hades actually fell in

Salem Witchcraft Trials vs. the Crucible Essay
Salem Witch Craft In 1962 the penalty of witchcraft was to be hung or smashed. There was a big
outburst of witchcraft and spells that were going around among the people of Massachusetts in 1962.
Some of the women of Salem began the witchcraft many people started to catch on and fallow them. A
lot of these people were hung do to what the bible said about the wrongs of witchcraft. When these
women of Salem Massachusetts started to do witchcraft and pass it on to other people they were put
on trial for their actions, which at the time was, illegal. It had caught on all over England and was
spreading fast. Arthur Miller made a play called the Crucible that was about the Salem witchcraft
trials. Arthur miller took the historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rev. Paris did not graduate from Harvard, but he did attend before he dropped out. Rebecca Nurse was
hanged on July 19, John Proctor on August 19, and Martha Corey on September 22 (Burns 2). They
were not all hung on the same day. Reverend Hale did not sign any death warrants, as he said he had
signed 17 in the play. That was not for the clergy to do. William Stoughton signs both existing death
warrants. The elderly George Jacobs was not accused of sending his spirit in through the window to lie
on the Putnam s daughter. The smashing of a man with rocks while he was on trial was only done to
try to get him to confess before it killed him. Giles Corey was not executed for refusing to name a
witness, as in the movie. The play is accurate: he was accused of witchcraft, and refused to enter a
plea, which held up the proceedings, since the law of the time required that the accused enter a plea.
He was pressed to death with stones, but the method was used to try to force him to enter a plea so that
his trial could proceed. Corey probably realized that if he was tried at all, he would be executed.
(Burns 4) Certain key people in the real events appear nowhere in Miller s play: John Indian, Rev.
Nicholas Noyes, Sarah Cloyce, and most notably, Cotton Mather. The changes in the characters that
Miller did are a lot and he changed this play to make it the way he wanted to see it. Salem was a
religious town, which in 1652 was established. Salem

Nt1310 Unit 5 Agression Analysis Paper
As a simple illustration of a k means algorithm, consider the following data set consisting of the
scores of two variables on each of seven individuals: Subject A B 1 1.0 1.0 2 1.5 2.0 3 3.0 4.0 4 5.0 7.0
5 3.5 5.0 6 4.5 5.0 7 3.5 4.5 This data set is to be grouped into two clusters. As a first step in finding a
sensible initial partition, let the A B values of the two individuals furthest apart (using the Euclidean
distance measure), define the initial cluster means, giving: Individual Mean Vector (centroid) Group 1
1 (1.0, 1.0) Group 2 4 (5.0, 7.0) The remaining individuals are now examined in sequence and
allocated to the cluster to which they are closest, in terms of Euclidean distance to the cluster mean.
The mean vector is recalculated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, we compare each individual s distance to its own cluster mean and to that of the opposite cluster.
And we find: Individual Distance to mean (centroid) of Cluster 1 Distance to mean (centroid) of
Cluster 2 1 1.5 5.4 2 0.4 4.3 3 2.1 1.8 4 5.7 1.8 5 3.2 0.7 6 3.8 0.6 7 2.8 1.1 Only individual 3 is nearer
to the mean of the opposite cluster (Cluster 2) than its own (Cluster 1). In other words, each individual
s distance to its own cluster mean should be smaller that the distance to the other cluster s mean
(which is not the case with individual 3). Thus, individual 3 is relocated to Cluster 2 resulting in the
new partition: Individual Mean Vector (centroid) Cluster 1 1, 2 (1.3, 1.5) Cluster 2 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (3.9,
5.1) The iterative relocation would now continue from this new partition until no more relocations
occur. However, in this example each individual is now nearer its own cluster mean than that of the
other cluster and the iteration stops, choosing the latest partitioning as the final cluster solution. Also,
it is possible that the k means algorithm won t find a final solution. In this case it would be a good idea
to consider stopping the algorithm after a pre chosen maximum of

Aquarius Constellation Research Paper
My favourite costellation is the Aquarius constellation, which is in the Southern Hemisphere during
the spring, while in the Northern Hemisphere during the fall. This is my favourite constellation
because to me, it is the most beautiful and is one of the most important backgrounds. In my personal
opinion, it also has the most meaning to it. The term Aquarius means Water Bearer or Cup Bearer in
Latin.
In Greek myth, there was a young man named Ganymede, who was a prince of Troy. He was

young woman s name was Catalina, and was curious about the goddess who stood before her. She

Events and Treaties of World War I
Introduction In history class we are currently discussing the events and treaties of World War 1. I
found this subject very interesting and the fact that many soldiers suffered from Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder piqued my curiosity. My teacher discussed how towards the end of the war soldiers portrayed
symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and often fled during war which led to most of them
being captured by their government and killed. I want to learn more about this topic because it is very
interesting to me. I also want to learn more about why instead of finding out why the soldiers were
acting out of the ordinary they just killed them. While I am researching this topic I hope to become
better with my time management skills and also become an all around better writer. This research
question will help me evolve into a better world learner because it will help teach me some things
about the history of our world. World War 1 occurred between a number of different countries. Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder during World War 1 also not only affected Americans it affected other
countries as well because of the shell shock soldiers were experiencing in the trenches. I am planning
to take many different approaches when I am answering this question. I plan on researching many
different first hand accounts while also using different books and internet resources. I hope to be able
to get accounts about what happened from generations of people whose families actually went

Perceptual Processing Essay
The Special Role of Faces in Perceptual Processing Attention is often diverted by irrelevant distractors
despite the need to concentrate on a task, and this is prevalent in daily life (e.g. ads pop ups while
working on the computer, signboards while driving). The perceptual load theory suggests that
attention is an automatic process with limited capacity all stimuli will be processed within its capacity
limits (Lavie, 1995). In accordance with the theory, interference from irrelevant distractors is
dependent on the amount of perceptual load. Task irrelevant stimuli would be unattended in high load
conditions since information processing is at its full capacity, preventing further processing, whereas
in low load conditions, spare capacity spills over to process the irrelevant distractors (Lavie Cox,
1997). Several studies have supported the perceptual load theory and the capability of irrelevant
distractors to be processed automatically. In a visual search task, performance in which there was an

The Rhagoletis Pomonella Fruit Fly
Forming a new species can be very tricky, however it is possible. This takes up time and also you need
to breed one species with another specific species to get an end result. When it comes to reproducing,
choosing a mate is very important. Also, there will be competition between all of the objects
participating in this reproduction. Food resources are another very important thing to be aware of. A
well known example of evolving into a new species is the Rhagoletis pomonella fruit fly. This fly used
to eat the fruit off of a hawthorn tree, but now it feeds on apples. The fruit fly has evolved into a more
genetically distinct fly. Now, the new species changed the mating process. The way the males forage
might have an an effect on the female s choice of mate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evolution happens all the time, and it takes hard work to study what evolution is and how it works. In
class right now, we have been learning about evolution, speciation, competition, fitness, and also
different types of selection. For example one type of selection is natural selection. In the article, they
talked about sympatric speciation. I did not know what it was at first. This means the degree to which
different individuals compare for resources, and the variety of resources available. The reason that this
was included in the article is simple. Sympatric selection played a big part of the evolution of the

Nuclear Waste Is The Substance That Nuclear Fuel
Nuclear waste is the substance that nuclear fuel becomes after it has been used in a reactor. Although
the metal rods appear unchanged after their use, the material inside has changed greatly. Before it was
used to produce power, the fuel mainly consisted of uranium. In order to create heat energy in the
reactor, U235 undergoes fission. Fission is a nuclear reaction in which the nucleus of an atom splits
into smaller parts. As a result of this, there is a chain reaction which creates heat. The control rods
control the fission rate and the temperature. In the steam generator, the heat and cooling water create
pressured steam which moves the turbine. The turbine creates energy that goes into a generator which
gives off electricity. The water from the turbine is able to become usable since it gets cooled. Once a
reactor reaches its lifetime, it becomes spent fuel and is treated as waste. Most countries bury the spent
fuel or reuse it. In the U.S., we haven t decided what to do with the spent fuel so most of the spent fuel
rods are stored in temporary storage pools. In the future, the United States plans to bury the waste in
the Yucca Mountains which are located in Nevada. This would be a suitable place since it is not close
to humans or the environment. For the first part of the lab we had to go on Blackboard and open the
Spent Fuel document. We had to go to Appendix III which had some text and a chart about how much
spent fuel has been accumulated by each state. The years

Summary Of The Death Of A Moth By Annie Dillard
Annie Dillard s piece The Death of a Moth, from her book Holy the Firm, is infused with symbolism.
Some may read The Death of a Moth and simply think Dillard is describing, in great detail, a moth
dying a horrible, violent death at the grip of a candle s flame; missing the camouflaged meaning. She
wrote the moth piece to symbolize the writer; the dedication, the hard work, and the sacrifices that
come with being a writer. Dillard herself made sacrifices and worked hard to become successful. She
spent endless dedicated hours towards her art. Victorious with success, Dillard showed that for all her
losses, they resulted in gains. Making her piece, The Death of a Moth, an inspiration to aspiring
writers. Dillard answers the beckoning question as to why she wrote The Death of a Moth essay in
How I Wrote the Moth Essay and Why. She talks of the hollowed bodies of insects on her bathroom
floor; recognizing the moth bodies, like a moth she had seen a few summers before on her camping
trip. Dillard goes on to say, walking back to my desk, where I had been answering letters, I realized
that the burning moth was a dandy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Pardoner s Prologue Sparknotes
Does the way the story describes the Pardoner makes it seem as if he is a wholly vicious man? I
believe it does, from the start you can easily notice he is a very selfish person, yet he is supposed to be
a pastor and someone who tries to benefit the people of the church. Instead of fulfilling the role God
has put him in he would rather preach for his own benefits and bring sin upon the church. In The
Pardoner s Prologue, the story begins by explaining that the Pardoner is a man who preaches and tries
to sell his community salvation. He speaks on cupidity majority of the time which is saying that greed
is the root of evil. This is the first example of why he is a cruel man. He is preaching lies to his people
to make them feel bad and tricking them into giving money to the church, telling people not to be
greedy yet he is being greedy himself. Later on, he tells us that he preaches only to gain money, he
doesn t preach to try and bring the congregation salvation or freedom from their sins. He even gets to
the point where he thinks his sermons are intended to be evil, to offend God and the community.
Anyone who disagrees with what the Pardoner says is believe to be wrong and influenced by evil
intent. The reason the Pardoner does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It goes on to say that the Pardoner s tongue will be a dagger to the people who hear his message, he
will speak to the congregation and they will feel pain. He will also spit venom towards the people
whose lies are called holiness. This is why it is so easy to classify the Pardoner as a wholly vicious
person, he is basically described as a snake and when people think of snakes it s not a positive picture.
A snake is something that is dangerous and scary, not happy and glorious. The Pardoner is viciously
coming for the pockets of the congregation and if anyone interferes, there will be problems. There is
no doubt that he is a wholly vicious man and that s been

Maslow s Theories Of The Hierarchy Of Basic Human Needs...
This article, appeared in the Atlantic in 2011, features the Gallup World Poll made on well being, and
ducted by Ed Diener, psychologist at the University of Illinois, researcher and author of psychology
oriented and analysis books and reviews, and Louis Tay, also psychologist at the same University.
Ducted over 5 years, from 2005 to 2010, on 60 865 participants of 123 countries, this investigation is
making its mark as the first survey to be considered as globally representative. This survey had the
objective of confirming or dismissing Maslow s famous theories of the hierarchy of basic human
needs and self actualization. Maslow s theory, whether one believes it or not, is still a theory that is
debated by psychologists. This article argues that Maslow s theory features many flaws, such as its
fuzziness when it came the main concept of self actualization and stipulate that the main disagreement
reported towards it by psychologists is the fact that it somehow assumes that there are no innate
reactions because everything is thought to be exclusively learned through personal experience in a
social environment (p.418). Not only it criticizes the idea of self actualization, it also points out the
way too general categories of needs that Maslow s theory features such as psychological needs (food,
sex, sleep, etc.) and the need for security of the body and resources, pointing out the lack of flexibility
in terms of the degree these needs are expressed and nuances. This same

Compare The Poem I Wandered As Lonely As A Cloud By...
The inspiration for both William Wordsworth s poem I wandered as lonely as a cloud and Dorothy s
journal entry comes from a walk they took in the Lake District along the Gowbarrow park. The
daffodils alongside the riverbank struck both enough to write about them. Though daffodils serve as
the focal point for both writings, Dorothy records the sight in front of her whereas William offers a
more mystical and spiritual perception of the experience. The first hint that William s poem is more
mystical than Dorothy s journal is in the number of daffodils and the perfection within them. Dorothy
writes only a few flowers were seen close to the water before walking along the lake to see more of
them. This naturalistic observation of how daffodils are dispersed in the wild. She also writes about
the imperfectness of their structure There was here and there a little knot, and a few stragglers a few
yards higher up . In William s poem, the daffodils emerge all at once When all at once I saw a crowd,
/A host, of golden daffodils; . He further emphasizes the point by saying the daffodils are endless and
continuous, stretching in a never ending line. This hyperbole and the difference in the imagery
suggests that the daffodils are mystical and unearthly in the poem and a natural experience in the
journal. William also describes the color of the daffodils as golden instead of the more common
yellow, focusing on their majesties and grandeur. The contrast in the mood shift of both

corruption, which has been riddled with controversy. Nevertheless, there is no denying that Russia has
thrived since the election of Vladimir Putin, economically, politically and militarily. Vladimir Putin

In 2013 as Ukraine was negotiating with the European Union, President Putin was also conducting
secret meetings with the president of Ukraine. These secret meetings helped sway the President of
Ukraine to decide against joining the union and striking a deal with Russia for oil and natural gas. This
was the starting point for the Ukrainian revolution in 2014. The Ukrainian President found refuge in
Russia after he was exiled for his decision to join Russia and not the European Union. Now with
Ukraine in disarray, Putin had a new plan; he secretly sent soldiers into Crimea. Putin saw Crimea as a
vital piece of land that could help Russia by giving them a seaport, which is more accessible to the rest
of the world. This would also give Russia the chance to strengthen their navy by giving them a more
direct route to the west in order to defend themselves from the west. Starting October 2014 reports
surfaced that there were troops in Crimea. Putin and Russia s government denied all claims that the
troops were Russian soldiers. By March 2, 2015, Russia acknowledged that they had sent troops to the
border of Ukraine to protect Russia from any actions towards Russia. By March 16, Russia announced

Peter C. Whybrow has written a very interesting article entitled Dangerously Addictive. Why we are
biologically ill suited to the riches of modern America? (Whybrow, 2009, p.111 115). It seems to offer
some input into this matter. Whybrow (2009, p.111 115) makes the case that we can essentially
overload the brain s reward system, and if left unchecked, it can turn into rampant greed. Whybrow
(2009, p.111 115) makes the very valid point, when we lose our ambition, we call it depression and
attempt treatment but, we do not treat unchecked ambition in the same way. Given the nature of Wall
Street placing the emphasis on overloading that very system, it seems that Gordon Gekko may
actually be a victim of his circumstances to a point, although this hardly excuses him of all his actions.
The film highlights a small, but elite, group of people that are highly susceptible to an ideology of
greed and live in a system that rewards negative behavior and poor moral choices. The characters
caught up in this system feel there will never be any negative outcome for their actions and are
shocked when they are faced with the consequences of their actions. This causes the realization that
the film showcases a deep addiction and is relatively honest about the outcomes of living with that

Crime in Urban America has been around for many years, it is atrocious and there are many reasons
why people commit these crimes. Crime is a big issue all around the world and while there is more
production of drugs and loss of jobs, the crime rate will continue to increase day by day. While there
are many motives that contribute to crime the most obvious causes would be poverty which causes the
poor to adapt into a violent and aggressive behavior to which later becomes ingrained into them. The

The environment of where a person was raised is another leading cause of crime. When someone
grows up in a place where they see all these bad things happening in their society it serves as a role
model to them and they adapt other people s actions. Growing up in a household where somebody
does not have parents or a guardian telling them what is right from wrong leads you to do the
unthinkable because they do not have any family direction showing you the right way to live life. One
of the most important environmental factors during childhood development is that of socialization or
the way a child is taught how to act (Chemistry Web) Lack of faith causes a person to think of
violence as their only way to get attention. When someone has no religious values, they think of all
the bad things that are bothering them instead of the good that they can bring into their life. Gangs in
an environment are a big cause of bringing crime to a society because they are the people who do the
most outrageous crimes. They are the ones who are drug dealers, who bring graffiti into
neighborhoods, and who commit drive by shootings. Individuals join these gangs to be accepted, to be

Kodak Options Memo
In my March 6 memo, I discussed the need for Kodak to revamp its core strategy and regain
popularity. Eastman Kodak has been the leader of photography and printing products for nearly 130
years. Over the last few years Kodak has been in distress due to its poor fundamental shift into the
digital age. Lack of strategic creativity led Kodak to misunderstand the industry in which it was
operating. This lack of strategic creativity was costly for Kodak.
This memo will explore the options I briefly discussed in the previous memo, in order to find a
solution to this problem. Each option will be assessed based on the same criteria. The options to
consider are:
* Hire a new CEO new bolder leadership * Enter into a new aggressive ... Show more content on

These profits can be achieved through tracking consumer needs and maintaining efficiency within the
value chain.
The option can revamp its line of attack to surpass current expectations. Though this option has a high
level of risk, if successful, would implement a drastic change to Kodak s strategy and overall
performance for the good of company leaders, employees, and stakeholders. The new CEO will be
evaluated after one year by leaders, employees, and stakeholders.
Option 2: Enter into a new aggressive market
Kodak currently has no position within the ink market. The ink business is a $45 billion a year sector
that could regenerate Kodak s position in the printing sector. The market for ink is dominated by HP,
followed by Epson, Canon, and Lexmark. Entering a complete new market may be beneficial in its
current position. According to Kodak, the greatest obstacle to printing at home is the cost of ink and
supplies. Kodak can develop a cost efficient solution that will be more appealing to consumers. With
the launch of this product, Kodak must focus on several sectors of business: marketing, pricing,
distribution, and production. Onesource (2011). * Marketing Kodak is the world s foremost imaging
innovator. Its reputation in the film printing business is dominant. Introducing a new line of cost
efficient printer ink will be effective and popular. Kodak s target market will include anyone with a
household printer. Kodak s goal will focus

Corporate Responsibility Essay
Mini Corporate Social Responsibility Essay
Current Efforts for Social Responsibility
Activision Blizzard is an industry leader for producing and designing video games. They have annual
revenues of 4 billion, annual income of 2.2 billion and total assets of 5.5 billion. Activision, as they
are commonly known, have great customer support and even better technical support, despite having
to deal with one of the most impatient and finicky customer bases, the gamer.
So how do they stack up in social responsibility?
As a video game company Activision does not have the usual responsibilities that other companies
have. Petrol companies and other mining/energy companies have a responsibility to the public to not
do unnecessary harm while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Activision as a video game producing company has a great wealth of resources and knowledge for
Wise Web Kids to use in making its video games. This way the kids will be more likely to play the
games since they will have been made by a major video game publisher instead of an internet safety
organization. The goal of getting kids to pay attention to lessons about fraud, bullying, and even
sexting is achieved with Activision s help as a game developing company and all of its branches that
work on game design.
Due to the partnership with Wise Web Kids, Activision puts a language filter in all of its games, and
gives its games a fair rating. The rating is so that parents are aware of what kind of game they are
buying for their children and Activision makes sure that no game is sold without warning that content
may not be appropriate for individuals under a certain age limit. The language filter in their online
games ensures that even in the online community parents can protect their children from playing with
people who would use adult language in some of the more kid friendly games.
Analysis of Current Social Responsibility
Activision is doing a great job performing its role as far as social responsibility goes. They are
extremely aware of what their video games are doing to our society and how they are effecting
America s youth. Due to this, they want to continue to do more with regards to education and safety.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf Summary
The boy who cried wolf by B.G. Hennessy retells the beloved classic with the dominant theme of
honesty. The plot in this book is what relates to the theme. Because the boy was bored, he decided to
play a trick on the villagers. The boy cries, Wolf! Wolf! and the villagers come running to help the
shepherd boy. When they get to the field and discover the boy was playing a trick on them they are
angry. Later, the boy is bored again and plays the same trick, the villagers come running to help and
again the boy laughs at them for falling for his trick. However, when an actual wolf comes and the boy
yells for help, the villagers think he is playing a trick on them again and don t come to help him.
Therefore, because of the events that take place the boy learns to be honest or when it counts no one
will believe you. The literary concept displayed in The boy who cried wolf is irony. The young
shepherd boy is bored and decides to play a practice joke on the village people by yelling, Wolf! The
village people come ready ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The style in this book is what relates to the theme the best. The way the words flow together are what
really help you see the dominant theme of this book. As you read the words, they watched as green
became the grass and blue became the sky. The yellow sun was shining bright on white clouds drifting
by and it lays the foundation that everyone is different and diverse. Then as you read, We are a box
crayons, each one of us unique, but when we get together the picture is complete. which solidifies the
theme of acceptance and antidiscrimination. In The crayon box that talked figurative language in the
form of a metaphor is what conveys this theme the best. The crayon box is a metaphor for the people
of the world with each crayon representing a different race or culture in the world. Like in the story if
we work together we can create wonderful

Leadership in Norma Rae
Leadership in Norma Rae Norma Rae is a film based on a true story set in a Southern mill town. The
title character and fellow mill workers start a branch of the Textile Workers Union of America through
the use of leadership. The two characters of Norma Rae and Reuben Warshofsky combine their talents
to empower and lead the people of the mill from downtrodden workers to proactive union members.
When Rueben first comes upon the town, he finds the managers of the mill oppressive to their
workers. People have no rights. They make small wages. They work long hours. Rueben starts the
revolution for the mill workers by inspiring Norma Rae through Superleadership. Norma Rae in turn
empowers and motivates the mill workers to attain their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reuben tells Norma Rae the way things could be at the mill and she is inspired. He explains that the
textile industry is the only industry not unionized. Reuben says to people at the first church meeting
that things will not change, not unless you make it happen. Reuben encourages the people to join him
and share in the goal to unionize the mill. Norma Rae is the only one who accepts the challenge at
first. Reuben gives Norma a voice. He teaches her how to fight for a union. She starts by signing a
union card. She then wears a union button and hands out others. The woman before was pushed
around and uneducated. Now she is typing documents, making copies, and cold calling her fellow
workers; all for the sake of the union. Reuben s Superleadership extends to things outside of the union.
She begins to read Dylan Thomas. She allows blacks and whites to visit her home together. Norma
makes her own decisions. Her priest insults her when he will not allow a bi racial meeting and without
delay, leaves the church. When her new husband is upset with her time consuming work, she yells
back at him, and he respects her for it. Norma Rae no longer allows people to push her around. Her
bosses at work continually try to make her quit: they make attempts at character assassination; they
work her father literally to death; through

The Themes and Motivations Behind George Orwell s 1984
ABSTRACT Anyone who considers themselves a lover of good fiction must know who George
Orwell is. Anyone who loves good cynical fiction has to have read his master piece, simply titled
1984. 1984 is a phenomenal tale of government gone awry, in its attempts to unify what s left of the
world, after the atomic wars waged in Europe. The story is based on Mr. Orwell s fears of immensely
powerful governments, especially totalitarianism. If you are a true lover and you have read the story,
The next logical question one must ask themselves is, do we understand why he wrote this wonderful
piece of work? Please allow me the opportunity to enlighten you. In order to understand the why; I

While at St. Cyprian s, several key events transpired for Eric. He met Cyril Connolly, who also
became a noted writer and editor, and the onset of World War I occurred. Cyril who became editor of
Horizon magazine would ultimately publish many of Orwell s essays. While at the school Eric wrote
two poems that were published in the Henley and South Oxfordshire Standard, the local newspaper. At
the ripe age of 13, Eric s poem, Awake! Young Men of England , was published. The poem, a call to
arms for able bodied Englishmen to join the war effort, helped him earn scholarships to Wellington
College and Eton College. (Bowker, n.d.) After spending a term at Wellington in 1917, Eric earned a
place at Eton as a King s Scholar. He remained at Eton until 1921. (Bowker, n.d.) During his tenure at

What Is The Great Debate 2016
Running head: The Great Debate 2016: Marijuana Legalization 1 THE GREAT DEBATE 2016:
MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION 9 The Great Debate 2016: Marijuana Legalization Francie DeSalvio
Middlesex Community College Introduction On November 8th 2016 this country will elect its 45th
President. There will also be a record number of marijuana initiatives on November ballots across the
country. Medical Marijuana questions will be offered to voters in four states; Arkansas, Florida,
Montana and North Dakota. Five States will be voting on whether or not to allow legal recreational
marijuana laws. Arizona, California, Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada. Twenty four states currently
have medical marijuana laws. This current list dates back to 1996, with the first state being California.
Four states have passed recreational marijuana laws. Washington and Colorado in 2012, followed by
Alaska and Oregon in 2015. Only nine states throughout the United States have prohibited use of any
kind, recreational or medical. Looking at these numbers, one would assume that the trend to passage is
on the positive. If this is true, why the deep divide in poll numbers in regard to this question?
Following the state wide passage of recreational use in Colorado in 2012, one county in Colorado,
Pueblo county has now gathered enough signatures to allow the following question: whether to
terminate recreational marijuana sales and operations. Could this be a trend to watch in the future,
reversal

The Causes And Impacts Of The World Trade Center
The original World Trade Center, constructed between 1975 and 1985, was a complex of seven
buildings occupying a 16 block area in Lower Manhattan. At the heart of the World Trade Center
(WTC) stood 1 WTC and 2 WTC, also known as the Twin Towers. These towers occupied nearly an
acre each and stood 110 stories high. When completed, 1 WTC was the tallest building in the world.
The Twin Towers stood as a symbol of America s power in the global economy. Because of this, the
World Trade Center was a massive target for terrorism. On February 26th, 1993, a small moving truck
was filled with 1500 pounds of explosives and detonated in the underground parking garage of the
North Tower. This attack killed 6 people, injured over a thousand and lead to structural damage in the
subsurface structure of the tower. Unfortunately, this was just a warning of what was yet to come. On
September 11th, 2001, two commercial airliners were hijacked by terrorists and flown into the North
and South Towers (1 WTC and 2 WTC). The impact from these crashes and the heat caused by the
burning of excess jet fuel after the impact caused the buildings to collapse killing over 2600 people.
Debris from the collapse damaged the remainder of the seven buildings eventually leading to them
being demolished. To recover from the physical and emotional loss in Lower Manhattan, a new World
Trade Center has been planned. The site is now home to the new 1 WTC (The Freedom Tower), 2
WTC, 3 WTC, 4 WTC, 7 WTC, National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and the World Trade
Center Transportation Hub.
The focal point of the new World Trade Center is the new 1 WTC. Also known as the Freedom Tower,
the new 1 WTC is owned by the Port Authority of New York New Jersey. The tower s 3,100,000
square feet of floor space is managed operated and leased by the Durst Organization. Skidmore,
Owings Merrill was faced with the challenge of not only designing a building, but designing an icon
representing perseverance, innovation, and urban modernism (Lewis Holt). The building is designed
using a highly redundant steel moment frame and core to enhance rigidity while leaving the floor
space free of columns. Not only is the new 1 WTC one of the most safe structures in the

Sisterhood Is Powerful Summary
The life of a woman was limited and restricted in every aspect of her life. A woman had only one
option and one road to follow: to marry young, bare their husband s children, and devote their lives to
homemaking. Woman did not have a life outside the home and had to conform to the life society had
created for them. However, even though society painted this picture of what the average/typical
women should act and look like, they fought against it. We see a shift in the 1920 s with the creation
of flappers, in the 1940 s women joining into the industrial force, and in the 1960 s and 1970 s women
coming together creating movements and striking against the misogynist society and demanding for
their rights. In the book Sisterhood is Powerful edited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On Chinese Immigration
Like King Midas greed, the lure of instant wealth amid dreams of piles of gold led many Chines to
America and eventually to the misery of Midas. Upon hearing of the news of Gold Mountain in 1848
in California, many Chinese immigrants came to America on ships. Most Chinese immigrants were
coming to America to become wealthy and to support their families. The Chinese immigrated into the
United States due to the economic hardship in China as well. Upon arriving, they worked in gold
mines and on building railroads, they faced resentment from Americans, and ultimately the Chinese
Exclusion Act was passed. After coming to America because of The Gold Rush, Chinese immigrants
first worked mining gold, but then worked on building railroads. They tended to mine for small pieces,
where impatient miners had abandoned ( Chinese Immigrants during the Gold Rush ). When the

carry an ID, identifying its status as a laborer immigrant and the Chinese exclusion acts (Chinese
Immigration and the Chinese Exclusion Acts). This law prohibited Chinese laborers who were skilled
or unskilled and Chinese employees working as miners from entering the country. The Chinese
immigrants learned to use courts as a venue to fight for their rights and won many cases (Yuning Wu).

  • 2. Susan B. Anthony And The Equal Pay Act Imagine being told that you do not need as much pay as a man because your husband is a professor and you do not need the money. This was the truth for Maxine Lampe when she addressed the school district about being paid less. Before her husband was done with graduate school, she brought the issue up with the school where she worked and was told that she could not get the head of household pay that men received, even though she was the breadwinner. This is not the only account of this happening. All over the country, women are getting paid less than men and being told that it s okay. It is not okay. Gender equality is something that has been a problem through the ages. Susan B. Anthony and many others fought for the right to vote which was granted in 1920. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law stating that no employer can discriminate based on gender. The American Association of University Women published a graph on Women s Median Annual Earnings as a Percentage of Men s Median Annual Earnings for Full time, Year round Workers, 1974 2014 and it shows that in 1974, women were paid 59% of what men were paid. The graph shows the improvements over the years and that in 2014, women were paid 79% of what men were paid. The gap has not budged since 2014. The gender pay gap has improved over the years, but it will not close until new legislation passes. Over time, the gap has changed for the better. The gap has improved for many reasons but many of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Fiscal Federalism in Nigeria CHAPTER1 INTRODUCTION: The question of an acceptable formula for revenue sharing among the component tiers of the Nigerian nation is one of the most protracted and controversial debates in the political and macroeconomic management of the economy. This debate has its foundations in the history and evolution of the Nigerian federation. Revenue allocation or the statutory distribution of revenue from the Federation Account among the different levels of government has been one of the most contentious and controversial issues in the nation s political life. So contentious has the matter been that none of the formulae evolved at various times by a commission or by decree under different regimes since 1964 has gained general acceptability ... This is as a result of differences in resource endowment. (f) The Efficiency Principle: This principle implies that efficiency must be applied in the allocation of resources (g) The Principle of Derivation: The component units of a system should be able to control some of its own resources as they desire. (h) The Principle of Locational Neutrality: Interregional fiscal differences tend to influence location choices of individuals and firms. Therefore, policy should focus on minimizing distortions due to some interference. Hence, differential taxes which create locational distortions should be avoided as much as practicable. (i) The Principle of Centralized Redistribution: This principle states that the redistribution function of fiscal policy through progressive taxation and expenditure programmes should be centralized at the federal level. That is, if the redistributive function is decentralized, it can result in distortions in location decisions. It should be noted that the above principles are not mutually consistent. . • 4. The Tone Of August Wilson The tone that August Wilson uses is an approachable and lofty blend at the same time. To begin with the protagonist of fences, Troy is a mindful man whose dreams are obstructed, this makes him have confidence in self made fantasies. The play first begins with an entertaining story about his struggle with a personified Death character. In addition to this Troy has the ability to live in a fictitious world, denying his affair with Alberta. Troy instigates conflict as a result of his ability to believe in self made illusions and his inability to acknowledge other s decisions in life when they vary from Troy s own philosophy. Troy s name symbolically exhibits Troy s character as one who lives on a line between two contradicting thoughts. Troy Maxson begins the play loved, admired and getting away with his secret affair. Yet, inevitably, Troy s death leaves many negative characteristics as a legacy for his family to deal with and acknowledge. Although this may be true, the setting is set in the dirt yard of the Maxson house. All this seems notable that the Maxson s aren t the richest people in town. Clearly, the set remind us that money is a constant concern for Troy and his family. They relay in Troy s salary as garbage collector. Furthermore, we see that August Wilson did name his play Fences because of the dramatic action depends strongly on the building of a fence in the Maxson s backyard. The character s lives change around the fence which serves as both a literal and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Summary Of Jesse Smiles A Small Grin Jesse smiles another small grin. I asked how you found your way into theatre. The waiter interrupts, and they order drinks, and Casey orders spaghetti with meatballs and Jesse has the same, hold the meatballs. Casey scans his brain for reasons why, but then he figures he should answer Jesse s question, so: I was actually born in Cali. My father is American, and Mum s British, but when I was well, the times then, it wasn t too great in California, so we moved to the UK. Jesse looks like he s figuring something out in his head when he interrupts, The war started. Casey nods. It wasn t brilliant foresight on their part, but who saw anything coming? Thinking about that time makes him think about the smells in London, the rubble, the destruction then living with it for many years after the war. It s painful, it ll probably always be so, but he forges on to get through this part. The only escape for me was the pictures, when we could afford it. I d watch, and when we d go see something from America I d think about my birthplace and just, he squeezes his eyes shut, trying to remember the feeling of the Carlton Cinema in Canonbury in the northern part of the city, the seats and biggest screen he d ever seen. I d imagine I was elsewhere, a place that felt safe where I could be somebody else, which was, in fact myself. He opens his eyes, feeling silly, but when he does he sees Jesse s eyes locked on him, lips parted. Rapt. I I had a hard time being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Is The Party Of God Abstract When translated, Hezbollah means The Party of God. However, as we examine the history, demographics, agenda, methodology and target choices and affiliation assignments and contributions of Hezbollah, we discover that this organization was established with perhaps one goal in mind and that is to strike fear into the hearts of those that oppose an Islamic state in Lebanon. Therefore, as the self proclaimed Party of God, based on the history of their activities and actions, they appear to be something entirely different. History Since the establishment of Hezbollah in 1982 as part of the Iranian government s Revolutionary Guard, according to Spindlove et al (2010, pp. 249 252), the goal of this organization has since been the creation of an independent Islamic state exclusive of the nation of Lebanon. Moreover, according to a compilation of information by Berman (2015), it is widely believed that the Hezbollah ideology spawned during the Iranian Revolution. During this revolution, the rhetoric called upon Muslims to over through governments that oppressed them and their beliefs. Within Lebanon, according to perceptions of the Hezbollah leaders, the United States (U.S.) was ultimately to blame for the oppression of Lebanese Muslims and their beliefs while, simultaneously, viewing Israel as an extension of the U.S. and its policies within the region. Led by religious clerics, in addition to their desire for independence, the Hezbollah organization adopted an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Effects Of Music On African Music Essay Music has been around for a very long time. Especially African Music. Throughout many centuries, African music has changed. Just like any music today, the beat, the style, and even the dances have always been different and changing in Africa. There are many forms of African music that we think we may know but we don t. Traditional music for us might be any song we play during certain holidays or special gatherings and then continuing that throughout the years. Unlike in Africa, their form of traditional music is very different. African music back then when written, was associated with specific ethnic groups. An original artist, focused his style on items that were very creative. The main source they used to write a song was based on archeological items and other human nature things as well. They were very intrigued and used photographic paintings on items such as rocks, many books and other picture motions to get inspired. This is how any original artist got his or her idea and based its song on daily life items. (1. African Music. ) Like many other historical things, African music has been written, and re written for another vocalist to interpret them. This has been going on for so many generations that have been found through written excerpts found in journals of western explorers. Many of these writings were based on frameworks and different biographies under diverse categories. It is very fascinating how this type of music affects and influences the discussion of ... • 8. Human Trafficking And The Media Human trafficking has become an emerging worldwide public health crisis that has been understudied and under published by both society and the media. Human trafficking has affected men, woman, and children in varying ways. Human trafficking is not solely sex trafficking it is segmented into various categories. Trafficking includes but is not limited to sexual exploitation, forced labor, debt bondage, involuntary servitude, and trafficking of cells and organs. The way the media frames human trafficking has a rippling effect towards the audience and societies perspective. Positively using the media can influence society and can possibly help fight against human trafficking. The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), along with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and the 14th Amendment have all stated their views against human trafficking. The United States Department of State (2015) states, trafficking in persons, human trafficking, and modern slavery have been used as umbrella terms for the act of recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining a person for compelled labor or commercial sex acts through the use of force, fraud, or coercion (p. 7). Human trafficking is mostly thought of as sex trafficking of woman and children but this is not the only way traffickers use woman and children. Women, children, and men are all subject to different types of servitude. The most widely recognized one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Sea Dragon Research Paper espite their small size, sea dragons are carnivorous animals and therefore have a purely meat based diet. The sea dragon uses its pipe like snout to suck its prey into its oddly tooth less mouth. Sea dragons hunt crustaceans, plankton, shrimp and even small fish, using their camouflage to their advantage. Sea dragons have numerous natural predators in the south and western coastal waters of Australia but are rarely even spotted to the elaborate camouflage of the sea dragon. Those few sea dragons that are unlucky enough to be found, are usually spotted by large fish. As with sea horses, it is the male sea dragon who care for the eggs once they have been laid by the female. The female lays around 250 eggs onto the long tail of the male sea horse. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sea dragon is a small, delicate fish found in the tropical coastal waters of south and west Australia. Sea dragons look similar to and are in fact closely related to sea horses. There are two different species of sea dragon which are the leafy sea dragon and the weedy sea dragon. Although both sea dragon species have a similar body shape and size, they are very different in appearance. The leafy sea dragon is the master of camouflage, and being able to hide itself so easily amongst the plants means that the leafy sea dragon is rarely eaten, despite having numerous potential predators in the surrounding water. The weedy sea dragon does not look so elaborate, only having a few feather fins along its back. The weedy sea dragon has adapted to life on the sea bed as these feathery (weed like) fins help the sea dragon to camouflage into the debris on the sea floor. • 13. The United States Enforced Laws About Having Kids How would most people feel if the United States enforced laws about having kids? If we as a society don t change either how we live or the laws involving children, we will have generations of people using Uncle Sam as a crutch. The rate of births among women ages 15 to 44 increased by 1% from 2013 to 2014, the first increase since 2007, which might be a trend that if we don t fix this problem soon so many more might grow up that way. One in five children receives food stamps or some kind of aid so says the census bureau. Mandatory laws on having children should be enforced in the United States because of the high amount of government supported children, and the number of questionable parent(s). First reason, the number of government supported children is enormous, and with a projected baby boom on its way after the previous recession. To fix that the government could put in place laws restricting the number of children a family can have. The government could either restrict a family s number of children based on total income. As in low class to middle low class families have one or two children. Where at the same time the high class, and middle high class families might have two to four children. Or the government could put in a law for everyone. They could much like china did and only allow one child to be born. Or base it off of the number of parents raising the children. • 14. Professor John Nash s A Beautiful Mind There are no facts, only interpretations. These words from Frederick Nietzsche poignantly illustrate the notion that one s reality is inevitably shaped by the influence of other s around us. The set of values according to which one judges everyday events upon is the result of the reality formed based on other s interpretations of the world. When one lacks the knowledge to develop a sound reality, one relies upon the reality of others to come to a sensible interpretation. However, though one may be adamant that the reality that one experiences is real, others continual influence upon them may eventually persuade them and thus conform to the newfound reality. Nevertheless, it is still dependant on the individual on the way they deal with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even when an individual has a strong consolidated reality of their world, it is still susceptible to other s influence and may eventually conform to this alter reality that is so strongly condoned by people surrounding them. Though one s reality, formed by experiences of childhood and memory, may be strong and seemingly concrete, the persistent encouragement from others that the particular reality is false may yet have an immense impact on one s reality. In Ron Howard s adaptation of the biography of Professor John Nash, A Beautiful Mind, the notion that one s consolidated reality can succumb to other s influence is profoundly illustrated. Professor John Nash suffers from schizophrenia, and hence has illusions of people that do not exist. Though he had been strongly convinced that these people do not exist, he still sees them. However, he acknowledges them to be non existent and a figment of his imagination. Paramount, a global market leader in the consumer non disposable razor industry is planning to launch a new product into the market by the name of Clean Edge. Clean Edge is an innovative, premium priced, new razor whose goal is to increase Paramount s market share, sales and inevitably profit. As a company, Paramount has a strong history in the industry, entering the market back in 1962 and growing to a $13 billion company in 2009. Paramount specializes in disposable razors, cartridges, shaving cream and depilatories and currently has two razor products already on the market, Pro and Avail. With the launch of Clean Edge, management experiences conflicting ideas; Paramount is unsure of how to best position Clean Edge within the growing market, considering the competition launched a similar product right before the Clean Edge launch. The company is torn between two primary options, a niche position, targeting a small market with a premium razor versus a mainstream position, targeting a broader market by presenting an innovative product. After analyzing marketing budgets, market share, operating profit, branding strategy and allocations for 2008 and 2009, it is concluded that Paramount should engage in a niche position, which as per Appendix C will generate the higher profit of $31.37 compared to the $2.84 in profit generated by a mainstream position. By: Rahul Suresh What is the relationship between the SAT scores and family income of candidates around the world? Introduction: The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college and university admissions in the United States. It was first introduced in 1926, and its name and scoring system have changed several times throughout the years. Many students around the world that want to pursue post secondary institutions in the US make it a point to write the SAT at least once in their high school career to better their chances of getting a higher score. This test has three parts to it one reading, writing and one math. In order to achieve the best score that they can possibly get and be placed in the highest possible percentile, students may decide to attend SAT preparation classes starting from the early years of High/Middle School. The unfortunate reality of these extra preparation courses is that they are quite expensive, and due to this, they mostly cater towards to higher or higher middle class families. Courses that provide extra preparation such as Ivy Global are not very affordable to many families and so students. According to many statistics and news reports, the higher the test taker s family income, the higher their scores in the test. This has been a topic of great controversy as we have grown in the modern society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Transportation Has A Part Of Human History Transportation has been a part of human history since the beginning be it walking on foot on a trail through the forests, ships across the oceans, roads created by the horse or horse and carriage, to the rail roads that transected the United States to modern roadways. Many advancements on roadways throughout the years were made as each new form of transportation was improved. Then one day man could fly and hence another form of transportation made it possible for man to go from place to place in a fraction of the time compared to car or rail road. Along with these improved modes of transportation came new and inherent risks like head on collisions in vehicles, planes falling from the sky, and tunnel collapses in subways. With risk and threat comes the need for security and safety practices. Cars were made safer and roadways were improved to include guard rails, painted lines, traffic lights and stop signs. As the population grew so did the need to expand the ability to move about. Interstates were built, airports were built and subways were now a means of travel in the urban setting. As technology and the transportations system grew so did the threat and risk of damage from either natural or manmade disasters. We take for granted every day the roads we travel believing or thinking that nothing can or will happen to them where we live. So how what would happen if the transportation system suffered a major attack or damage? Roadways deliver goods by way of tractor trailers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Goggin and Mitchell (2010) states that Comparing the various definitions of innovation, it can be seen that there are several common elements what is changed (such as product or process changes); how much is changed (whether it is completely new or only perceived as such); the source of the change (sometimes technology); the influence of the change (for example, its social or commercial value) Elster (1983) defines innovation as the production of new technical knowledge Innovation is normally used to denote the process that takes place when a product or a process is developed, from idea to market; the concept of invention only denotes the process that takes place when new ideas or solutions are generated. Baumol (2002) argues is it possible to have lots of inventions and still lack innovations. Nevertheless, inventions are a necessary precondition for innovation . 2.2.4. • 20. The Importance of Literary Devices in The Seven Ages of... All the world s a stage the men and women merely players . This line is the beginning of the The Seven Ages of Man and is a recurring question throughout the poem. You may wonder how the world is stage, and through his use of similes, metaphors, and imagery Shakespeare explains this elaborates on this question. William Shakespeare s use of similes in the Seven Ages of Man helps to start the poem and give it a meaning early on by adding emphasis on certain topics. For example in the beginning he uses the men and women merely players (Line 2) to explain that people don t own the world but live in it. By using this simile he explains how people progress through life like a play, making an entrance to the stage and leaving afterwards. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore Shakespeare compares The Last Age to childishness and oblivion meaning that after you have gone through all the stages everything you have built up demolishes and you start back at the first stage. The last line of the poem helps you to determine how the play ends and because this comparison is made it makes you aware of people in your life that have gone through a few of the stages described by Shakespeare. Giving you the idea that the stages may occur in your life but in the end it really doesn t matter what you have done, because it will most likely be destroyed. The idea that what you have developed will be demolished makes you wonder what you are doing and have done with your life. Imagery is prominent in The Seven Ages of Man and is used to give meaning to a line or phrase meaning while creating complex images. When Shakespeare describes the boy as a creeping snail and sighing like a furnace you can image a drowsy boy who is on his way to school, but when described as having a shining morning face it gives you a completely different idea. By placing two differential images close together Shakespeare creates two separate moods in a few lines, which helps to determine the difference between two phases. Later on in the poem he uses the same strategy and says the man is bearded like a pard , portraying the image of a slightly older man who has moved on from the childish phase of the young schoolboy. Perceptual Processing Essay The Special Role of Faces in Perceptual Processing Attention is often diverted by irrelevant distractors despite the need to concentrate on a task, and this is prevalent in daily life (e.g. ads pop ups while working on the computer, signboards while driving). The perceptual load theory suggests that attention is an automatic process with limited capacity all stimuli will be processed within its capacity limits (Lavie, 1995). In accordance with the theory, interference from irrelevant distractors is dependent on the amount of perceptual load. Task irrelevant stimuli would be unattended in high load conditions since information processing is at its full capacity, preventing further processing, whereas in low load conditions, spare capacity spills over to process the irrelevant distractors (Lavie Cox, 1997). • 31. Nuclear Waste Is The Substance That Nuclear Fuel Nuclear waste is the substance that nuclear fuel becomes after it has been used in a reactor. Although the metal rods appear unchanged after their use, the material inside has changed greatly. Before it was used to produce power, the fuel mainly consisted of uranium. In order to create heat energy in the reactor, U235 undergoes fission. Fission is a nuclear reaction in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts. As a result of this, there is a chain reaction which creates heat. The control rods control the fission rate and the temperature. In the steam generator, the heat and cooling water create pressured steam which moves the turbine. The turbine creates energy that goes into a generator which gives off electricity. The water from the turbine is able to become usable since it gets cooled. Once a reactor reaches its lifetime, it becomes spent fuel and is treated as waste. Most countries bury the spent fuel or reuse it. In the U.S., we haven t decided what to do with the spent fuel so most of the spent fuel rods are stored in temporary storage pools. In the future, the United States plans to bury the waste in the Yucca Mountains which are located in Nevada. This would be a suitable place since it is not close to humans or the environment. Instead of fulfilling the role God has put him in he would rather preach for his own benefits and bring sin upon the church. In The Pardoner s Prologue, the story begins by explaining that the Pardoner is a man who preaches and tries to sell his community salvation. He speaks on cupidity majority of the time which is saying that greed is the root of evil. This is the first example of why he is a cruel man. He is preaching lies to his people to make them feel bad and tricking them into giving money to the church, telling people not to be greedy yet he is being greedy himself. Later on, he tells us that he preaches only to gain money, he doesn t preach to try and bring the congregation salvation or freedom from their sins. Ducted over 5 years, from 2005 to 2010, on 60 865 participants of 123 countries, this investigation is making its mark as the first survey to be considered as globally representative. This article argues that Maslow s theory features many flaws, such as its fuzziness when it came the main concept of self actualization and stipulate that the main disagreement reported towards it by psychologists is the fact that it somehow assumes that there are no innate reactions because everything is thought to be exclusively learned through personal experience in a social environment (p.418). • 35. Compare The Poem I Wandered As Lonely As A Cloud By... The inspiration for both William Wordsworth s poem I wandered as lonely as a cloud and Dorothy s journal entry comes from a walk they took in the Lake District along the Gowbarrow park. The daffodils alongside the riverbank struck both enough to write about them. Though daffodils serve as the focal point for both writings, Dorothy records the sight in front of her whereas William offers a more mystical and spiritual perception of the experience. The first hint that William s poem is more mystical than Dorothy s journal is in the number of daffodils and the perfection within them. Dorothy writes only a few flowers were seen close to the water before walking along the lake to see more of them. This naturalistic observation of how daffodils are dispersed in the wild. She also writes about the imperfectness of their structure There was here and there a little knot, and a few stragglers a few yards higher up . In William s poem, the daffodils emerge all at once When all at once I saw a crowd, /A host, of golden daffodils; . He further emphasizes the point by saying the daffodils are endless and continuous, stretching in a never ending line. This hyperbole and the difference in the imagery suggests that the daffodils are mystical and unearthly in the poem and a natural experience in the journal. Vladimir Putin Controversy Vladimir Putin s Presidency has been successful even though it is riddled with controversy and corruption starting from his first election, and leading to his decision to invade Ukraine and annex Crimea. When Vladimir Putin took office in 1991, it started a 16 year run of power, deceit, and corruption, which has been riddled with controversy. Nevertheless, there is no denying that Russia has thrived since the election of Vladimir Putin, economically, politically and militarily. Vladimir Putin initially took power on December 31, 1999 when Boris Yeltsin designated Putin as the Premiere of Russia shortly after Yeltsin decided to resign from President of Russia. In 2013 as Ukraine was negotiating with the European Union, President Putin was also conducting secret meetings with the president of Ukraine. These secret meetings helped sway the President of Ukraine to decide against joining the union and striking a deal with Russia for oil and natural gas. This was the starting point for the Ukrainian revolution in 2014. The Ukrainian President found refuge in Russia after he was exiled for his decision to join Russia and not the European Union. Now with Ukraine in disarray, Putin had a new plan; he secretly sent soldiers into Crimea. Putin saw Crimea as a vital piece of land that could help Russia by giving them a seaport, which is more accessible to the rest of the world. This would also give Russia the chance to strengthen their navy by giving them a more direct route to the west in order to defend themselves from the west. Starting October 2014 reports surfaced that there were troops in Crimea. Putin and Russia s government denied all claims that the troops were Russian soldiers. By March 2, 2015, Russia acknowledged that they had sent troops to the border of Ukraine to protect Russia from any actions towards Russia. By March 16, Russia announced that troops are in Ukraine and that they held the majority of the government buildings in Crimea. This sparked the first set of sanctions from the west. Mostly economic, Russia was able to hold out and not be affected by these sanctions. The second set of sanctions hit their businesses and many of Putin s friends, which he appointed. This is when Putin started to negotiate with the west. Crimea then held a vote to see if they would join Russia or stay part of Ukraine. 90% voted in favor of joining Russia. Whybrow has written a very interesting article entitled Dangerously Addictive. Why we are biologically ill suited to the riches of modern America? (Whybrow, 2009, p.111 115). It seems to offer some input into this matter. Whybrow (2009, p.111 115) makes the case that we can essentially overload the brain s reward system, and if left unchecked, it can turn into rampant greed. Whybrow (2009, p.111 115) makes the very valid point, when we lose our ambition, we call it depression and attempt treatment but, we do not treat unchecked ambition in the same way. Given the nature of Wall Street placing the emphasis on overloading that very system, it seems that Gordon Gekko may actually be a victim of his circumstances to a point, although this hardly excuses him of all his actions. The film highlights a small, but elite, group of people that are highly susceptible to an ideology of greed and live in a system that rewards negative behavior and poor moral choices. The characters caught up in this system feel there will never be any negative outcome for their actions and are shocked when they are faced with the consequences of their actions. This causes the realization that the film showcases a deep addiction and is relatively honest about the outcomes of living with that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The environment of where a person was raised is another leading cause of crime. When someone grows up in a place where they see all these bad things happening in their society it serves as a role model to them and they adapt other people s actions. Growing up in a household where somebody does not have parents or a guardian telling them what is right from wrong leads you to do the unthinkable because they do not have any family direction showing you the right way to live life. One of the most important environmental factors during childhood development is that of socialization or the way a child is taught how to act (Chemistry Web) Lack of faith causes a person to think of violence as their only way to get attention. When someone has no religious values, they think of all the bad things that are bothering them instead of the good that they can bring into their life. • 50. The Causes And Impacts Of The World Trade Center The original World Trade Center, constructed between 1975 and 1985, was a complex of seven buildings occupying a 16 block area in Lower Manhattan. At the heart of the World Trade Center (WTC) stood 1 WTC and 2 WTC, also known as the Twin Towers. These towers occupied nearly an acre each and stood 110 stories high. When completed, 1 WTC was the tallest building in the world. The Twin Towers stood as a symbol of America s power in the global economy. Because of this, the World Trade Center was a massive target for terrorism. On February 26th, 1993, a small moving truck was filled with 1500 pounds of explosives and detonated in the underground parking garage of the North Tower. This attack killed 6 people, injured over a thousand and lead to structural damage in the subsurface structure of the tower. Unfortunately, this was just a warning of what was yet to come. On September 11th, 2001, two commercial airliners were hijacked by terrorists and flown into the North and South Towers (1 WTC and 2 WTC). The impact from these crashes and the heat caused by the burning of excess jet fuel after the impact caused the buildings to collapse killing over 2600 people. Debris from the collapse damaged the remainder of the seven buildings eventually leading to them being demolished. To recover from the physical and emotional loss in Lower Manhattan, a new World Trade Center has been planned. The site is now home to the new 1 WTC (The Freedom Tower), 2 WTC, 3 WTC, 4 WTC, 7 WTC, National September 11 Memorial and Museum, and the World Trade Center Transportation Hub. The focal point of the new World Trade Center is the new 1 WTC. Also known as the Freedom Tower, the new 1 WTC is owned by the Port Authority of New York New Jersey.
