Examples of IT efforts that run, grow, or transform the business it serves

Kent State University
ABSTRACT
Since the introduction of Information Technology, the business world has been transformed. In many
aspects of business, IT contributes remarkably in increasing effective usage of time, efforts and
financial costs. This article is going to outline some examples of IT efforts that run, grow, or transform
the business it serves, thorough increasingly important layers of business operation and management.
Those layers are finance, communication and systems. 1. Finance
Some decades ago, business financial activities were far different from they are now. Transactions
were made using cash or bank notes, which were given directly from hand to hand or sent via mails. It
could take a week for a transaction to be complete due to distance. Orders given to brokers on
financial markets were made through phone or face to face communication. Nowadays, those
activities are totally transformed thanks to Information Technology.
The first examples to be noticed are innovations in banking industry. IT started to transform banking
industry with the introduction of Society for Worldwide Inter bank Financial Telecommunications
(SWIFT) in May 1973. It has developed some systems to provide SWIFT Terminal Services, which
are services transmitting financial messages between banks worldwide. Some of its innovations are

HR implementation practice to achieve effective organization. The role of compensation is to balance
the overall motivation scheme applied within the organization and the implementation of smooth

Global Population Control and Environmental Policies Essay
Global population control and environmental policies are the subject of international controversy. The
rate at which human beings are populating the earth and polluting it are some of the most important
factors that face the global society today. As of March 2009, the world population is about 6.76
billion. With the high rate of population increase, the global population is expected to reach 9 billion
by 2040. With the number of people in the world today and the amount of consumer goods being
purchased and used, these factors present a problem to the state of the environment in the near future.
Over the past 50 years, the world s population has more than doubled and more than 1 billion of the
world s people do not have enough food to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These figures strike a resemblance to how fast the earth is gaining population.
Many scientists believe that high income nations present a much greater threat to the ecosystem
because there are more people in these countries consuming goods at a faster rate than low income
countries. Ecosystems cannot support high rates of population growth combined with environmental
damage. The carrying capacity of the earth s ecosystems are being surpassed and the ecosystems of
many nations are being ruined at a very fast pace. The rate at which country s populations are
growing, it will not be very long before many of the carrying capacities are surpassed. Environmental
degradation involves taking natural resources from the environment and re introducing them to the
environment in the form of pollution. One of the reasons for environmental degradation is greediness.
People are trying to maintain high levels of wealth and do not care at what cost to the environment.
The perfect example of this would be the current situation in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The land is
being stripped of its natural resources everyday and is left behind a barren land. The rate at which the
air is being polluted in Fort McMurray is triple that of anywhere else in western Canada. People from
all over North America have relocated to Fort McMurray because of the demand of jobs there. Fort

Managerial And Behavioural Theory Of The Firm
Introduction
With the roots of the neoclassical theory of the firm dating back to the 1770 s and some of the more
recent developments being some 80 years ago, it is understandable that economists have begun to
question how applicable the Neoclassical theory of the firm is to present day corporations.
(Lipczynski, Wilson, Goddard, 2009) Managerial and behavioural theories have been developed with
the intention of providing a more realistic insight into how contemporary organisations function. This
paper will address how the managerial and behavioural theories differ to the neoclassical approach of
the firm, and to what extent they enhance our understanding of firms. In doing so Baumol s sales
revenue maximisation and Williamson s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At its most basic, neoclassical is reliant upon the surrounding market conditions controlling the
decisions of firms. The Neoclassical approach to the firm provides us with a market wide framework
from which we can make predictions on future outcomes.
During the eighteenth century economic thinking was heavily influenced by the growing textile
industry, where the majority of suppliers were producing homogenous products; leaving no motive for
the economic theory being developed to account for diverse market conditions. (Lipczynski, Wilson,
Goddard, 2009) According to The Modern Corporation and Private Property Revised Edition (1969)
written by Berle and Means, out of The 200 Largest Non Financial Corporations in the United States
the number classed as Management Controlled increased from 88 to 169 from 1929 to 1963
respectively. (Berle and Means, 1968) Amidst the globalisation of firms and the rise of the stock
exchange, firms have become more complex and there ownership has become more diluted. The
supermarket industry is an example of how firms have become more multifaceted; selling thousands
of heterogeneous products, buying from countless suppliers and being owned by whoever chooses to
buy shares on the stock exchange. Due to firms increasing in both size and complexity, owners of
firms often employ teams of managers to run their

Modern Technology And Science Rule
ords
Since the 18th and 19th century the world has spiralled into an ever changing and fast paced place
where the possibilities are endless and technology and science rule. There was the introduction of
machines, modern technology and science which gave the world incredible inventions such as the
motorcar, aeroplane, the radio and electricity. These are the things that bought civilisation into
modernity, it changed not only how people used the world but how they saw the world and envisaged
the future. As times changes, architects gracefully chose to or were forced to adapt to the needs and
conditions of their present world which were created by this Modernity. Some of these conditions
which will be analysed are; the way in which society started to reject traditions and believe in the
present and future, the initial reactions of scepticism towards the development of technology and
imagination becoming important as people s views on the world started to shift.
The early 19th century was a tumultuous time for civilians and young soldiers alike living in
Germany, with unthinkable losses in the war and an uncertain political future, this time of uneasy life
with hopes for a better future created widespread despair and wild hopes through the country (Gay
2008, p315). This along with the constantly rising trends of modernity and the worlds need to make it
new, an ever growing list of modern men throughout Europe strove to make a difference, one of these
men was Walter Gropius. A

Abstract
My father always told me that Nothing in life is free . For years I have always been weary when I was
told something was free. I would have to double check and ask the question Am I really getting this
for nothing . Most of the time the answer was; No . The first time I remember dealing with this was
buying my first car. It was a beautiful 1993 Ford Explorer, jet black, low miles, and it had a great
stereo. The salesman had everything done and ready for me to sign. My father looked over the
contract and noticed a service fee hidden in the price. According to the salesman, all service for the
first three years I owned would be free. But of course the free service was paid ... Show more content

Essay about Democratic Peace Theory
The idea that democracies do not fight each other can be traced back to the writings of Immanuel Kant
over two hundred years ago in essay On Perpetual Peace , however, only in the early 1980s and with
the writings of Michael Doyle was the idea consolidated. According to Doyle and other advocates of
the democratic peace theory, liberal democratic states have been able to maintain peaceful relations
amongst themselves, but are prone to wage war against non democratic regimes. In order to prove this
theory, vast databases have been constructed of historical dyadic relationships between states as well
as detailed breakdowns of incidents of inter state war. The conclusions reached are best shown in the
work of Bruce Russett who has argued that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the theory suggests that because democracies externalise their interstate norms, they resolve
disputes with other states like them in a peaceful way. Hence domestic inner state policies influence
their foreign policies. However, this proclamation is disputed by C. Layne who argues that the crux of
this theory is that if the assumption that democracies promote their peaceful inner state norms and
beliefs, then they shouldn t ever threaten other democracies, especially not in a crisis. I will use the
case study of the Trent affair to provide evidence of how war was avoided. I will argue that in this
case, war was avoided not because of the domestic pacific influence on foreign policy but because of
other strategic reasons. In 1861 there was an incident when the British mail ship Trent which was
transporting J. M. Mason and J. Slidell on route from America to England, was stopped by the USS
San Jacinto and the two men were arrested. This caused outrage amongst the British public, writes
Layne, adding some of the reports from the time such as the people are frantic with rage... I have
never seen so intense a feeling of indignation in my life. An ultimatum was immediately sent to
Washington and military threats were given. This indicates that the government, as much as the public,
was very much bellicose. So even though both countries were

Summary Of Perry Patetic s Odyssey
Getting the family together for the holidays may be a little harder when they are 1000 miles apart.
Perry Patetic in his passage, claims that it is too easy to move away from the friends and family of our
past, this creates a loss in friendship and or relationships. Patetic supports his argument by first
explaining why people are able to move so far away. He continues by comparing the differences
between a close relationship to a long distance relationship. The authors purpose is to point out the
struggle of a long distance relationship in order to change one s opinion on the topic. The author
displays a sincere tone for the newer generation. Having a strong relationship with someone is only

Bearded Hercules
Throughout history, many civilizations have risen and fallen carrying along with them their
perspectives and beliefs manifested in works of art. All civilizations have erected monuments to not
only prove they existed, but because they believed they would remain permanently. The Ancient
Greeks were no different, portraying their ideal standards of beauty and proportion into their
sculptures. Their ideal perception of adulation represented the highest form of perfection, comparable
to the infinite impeccability of their gods and goddesses ( ). Evidently, the Ancient Greeks ideals
served as a prerequisite that transcended into the ideals of their successors, the Ancient Romans. The
Marble Statue of a Bearded Hercules exemplifies the emergence of unique Roman standards
intertwined with the praised idealism of the Ancient Greeks.
The Romans were heavily influenced by the Greeks, as Greek art was engrossed by the Romans
resulting in the development of new standards of beauty and proportion, from creating numerous
copies of Greek sculptures. The Marble Statue of a Bearded Hercules, dating back to 68 98 A.D., is

Progessives and The Pure Food and Drug Act Essay
At the turn of the century America entered a new age that many historians call the Progressive Era.
During this time period, the American Political system changed its view on how America should be
brought about. It provided a purification of the American government through direct democracy. This
era included many social and political reforms, which were brought about due to monopolies, and trust
corporations. One the key pieces of legislation that was a prime example of the progressive era, was
the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906. This law came about due to muckraking, and also because of
public and political interests. Muckraking, such as Upton Sinclair s piece, The Jungle , helped in the
timing of the adoption of this legislature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These articles shifted the popular opinion in favor of a law being made to protect the regulation of
food and prescription drug production.
There were other measures that formed this bill, but it was the muckraking that pushed for the timing
of the bill. One measure was public interests. During this time period many people began to question
the quality of their food and how it was being processed. Also locals would write about such instances,
such as when Adams wrote about the quality of the machines that came in contact with the meat. This
outraged many citizens causing many groups to bombard Congress with their concerns. Also during
this time, there were certain advances that labeled the food market during this time one of which is the
development of cheaper food products. These cheaper products allowed for more competition between
these cheaper brands and the more dominant more expensive brands. However, these cheaper brands
did provide stiff competition for the dominant brands, but in this case was not necessarily a good
thing. While the cheaper products did save those companies money, it hurt them in the public interest
in the long run. This was because there were no regulations and the companies could alter the food
and deceive the consumer, because of this. There was also the fear of the unknown, such as what the
company has to done the food product and how their food was being handled. This could also lead to
consumer being

the midst of a title run. But sympathy is the junk food of the soul, it contains nothing uplifting and
ultimately is a negative emotion. A winning team prepares itself for the adversity it is certain to

The Effects Of Otitis Media On Children
Numerous therapeutic conditions, for example, those recorded beneath, can influence your listening to
wellbeing. Treatment of these and other listening to misfortunes can frequently prompt enhanced or
reestablished hearing. In the event that left undiscovered and untreated, a few conditions can prompt
irreversible listening to disability or deafness. On the off chance that you think that you or your adored

OTITIS MEDIA
The most widely recognized reason for listening to misfortune in kids is otitis media, the restorative
term for a center ear disease or aggravation of the center ear. This condition can happen in one or both
ears and basically influences kids because of the state of the youthful Eustachian tube (and is the most
incessant finding for kids going to a doctor). At the point when left undiscovered and untreated, otitis
media can prompt contamination of the mastoid bone behind the ear, a burst ear drum, and listening to
misfortune. In the event that treated suitably, listening to misfortune identified with otitis media can be
reduced.

Comparing Women In Hinduism And Christianity
Throughout history women have been treated as objects. Although it has never been a better time to be
a woman, people today treat women with disrespect. A reason women are treated this way is because
of religion and the societies that surround them. Some religions have put women down and morphed
the image of women to fulfill their religious views. Two of these aforementioned religions are
Hinduism and Christianity. These religions have made out women to be lower than men in both
similar and different ways. Hinduism and Christianity put women in a negative light and it effects the
women in their communities.
Like most religions the perception of women has evolved over time. Sometimes it was for the better
other times it is for the worse. An example of this is exemplified in Hinduism. According to A Concise
Encyclopedia of Hinduism by Klaus K. Klostermaier, In Vedic times women were the equals of men

1 Corinthians 11:3 *
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the

Unfortunately, some people in the faith believe that women are automatically sinners because of Eve
eating the fruit and due to the aforementioned verses. Although the severity in the discrimination isn t
as overt as in Hinduism, there are still issues that affect Christian women today. The history of
Christianity would have had a very different development if it had not been for the generous support
of many women... who played an effective and precious role in spreading the Gospel. Their witness

It is not commonly known that the Mafia invested in the Stonewall Inn in 1966, turning it into a gay
bar. Located at 51 and 53 Christopher Street, the Stonewall Inn was owned by the Genovese crime
family. In 1966, three members of the Mafia invested $3,500 to turn the Stonewall Inn into a gay bar.
Previously, it served as a typical nightclub and restaurant for heterosexuals. Like many things the
mafia was involved in, much of the legality and dealings were under the table. Once a week, a police
officer would come collect envelopes full of cash as payoffs. The Stonewall Inn also had no liquor

bar and no fire exits. Used bar glasses were ran through large tubs of water and then reused. The bar
was supposedly not used for any illegal transactions. Thigs such as prostitution or drug deals were
prohibited. This was simply a place for gay men in New York City to dance. There were virtually no
places in the city where gay men could do so. This led to be The Stonewalls re opening as a gay club.

taconite ores to be beneficiated and so enabled them to bear the transport costs to the steel mills
further east.
Demand for Steel: This continued to rise in aggregate throughout much of the first half of the 20th
century. The nature of the demand altered however. Much less steel was now needed for rails, but
structural steel became increasingly important as did rods, wire, tubes and pipes; steel was needed for
tinplate and also very significant amounts were demanded by the transport industries.
Organisation of the industry: At the turn of the century, there was much horizontal integration and
merger activity reflecting, amongst other things, a desire to reduce competition and to increase the
scale of enterprises. Some companies became involved in vertical integration, being particularly
anxious to secure their supplies of coking coal and iron ore (the US relied very heavily on indigenous

Using Interconnected Computer Networks For Communication
The term internet refers to a system of billions of interconnected computers across the globe that uses
a universally accepted and standardized internet protocol suite also known as the TCP/IP. The internet
makes it possible to access extensive information resources through the World Wide Web (WWW),
supports telephony, email and file sharing (Ian, 2004). The internet started out as a commissioned
study by the United States government in the 1960s to explore the possibility of using interconnected
computer networks for communication. This was also done in Europe but real progress came in the
1980s when funding was availed to create the needed basic infrastructure by the USA organisation;
National Science foundation and then by other private entities. From here the interconnected
computers grew in number at rapid rates. This was the case since personal, institutional and mobile
computers continue to get added to the network to date (University of Texas, 2002). Basically the birth
of the internet was necessitated by the need to communicate and to share data and information as
effectively as possible. The growth of internet use has however continued to grow at a tremendous
pace all across the world making it a part of many people s daily lives. The internet has become such
an integral part of many people s lives that they rely on it for such activities as communicating,
entertainment and even earning a living. However, as is the case with most innovations, the internet

Analyse the Different Ways in Which Countries Can Attempt...
Firstly, the economic problem is split into three questions, which are: what to produce? How to
produce? Who to produce for? These three questions can also be summed up as scarcity which is the
inadequate amount of resources available. Consumers have wants which are unlimited; they would
always want more, but due to the economic problem, scarcity, not everyone will get there want
fulfilled, therefore causing a problem. Different countries can attempt to overcome the economic
problem in several ways; which is to apply a different economy system to their country. Due to
scarcity consumers will now have to make a choice of what they want, by sacrificing the next best
alternative when making a decision, this is known as opportunity cost. ... Show more content on

Example of good entrepreneur is Steve Jobs who was all behind the creation of Apple and the success

these problems. These are: free market economy; mixed economy and command economy. All three

Essay On Ancient South America Religion
Religions of Ancient South America emerged from expressions of internal engagements with external
factors. In ancient South America it was seen how the environment and landscapes aided in the
shaping of the cosmology of ancient religions. A wide known religion that arose from this matter was
the Inka religion but this traces further back to the cultural ancestors of the Inka, the Chavin. The
Chavin and preceding religions were ongoing developments and continuities that were inherited and
built upon earlier expressions. The Chavin is known as the Early Horizon because it was a religion
that was the first Pan Andean religion that would pass on its practices and cosmologies to preceding
civilizations. As mentioned earlier these religions were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Preceramic we find evidence of religious traditions that are later on seen again in the Chavin
and preceding Andean religions but each. For example in Chinchorro from the Preceramic we see the
mortuary practice of mummification. Michael E. Moseley author of The Incas and Their Ancestors:
The Archaeology of Peru explains, ...artificial mummification of corpses was a social distinction
conferred upon important people who were generally born to privileged status... (Moseley, 100). The
mummies of Chinchorro were conserved in an unusual way: wooden shafts would be added as support
for certain body parts; the body cavities would be filled; coats of clay were applied to the exterior. The
mummies were made accessible to the living for a reasonable amount of time before disposing of
them by interment. Moseley explains that this mortuary practice reflects the Andean belief that the
bodies needed to be physically intact in order to enter the afterlife and join their ancestors. Similarly,
the Chavin adapted this practice, but executed it in a different manner. During the Chavin corpses
were ...placed in a flexed seated position and bound with cords to maintain the pose... (Moseley, 161).

How To Change The Dress Code
If my school were to change the dress code, there are multiple things I would change. I would like for
them to change the rule about leggings. Not everyone has the same body type, boys need to learn to
control themselves, and students have to buy more clothes to wear that fit the dress code. Some people
can get away with wearing leggings which are usually people with a non curvy body. Some people can
t help if they are curvy. Leggings are very comfortable, so if someone with that body type wanted to
wear them, they can t because it s noticeable so they would get in trouble right away. Also, there is
absolutely nothing wrong with leggings. So if they re going to have the rule they should make sure
they enforce it equally or not have it all.

The Lucy E Parson Memorials
All three topics are for the public and tell our history over the years in a public way. One can see art as
in a form of a memorial that helps society in their rememory in the words of Toni Morrison. When you

behind it? An artist named Marjorie Woodruff expresses the same questions that are being raised.
Marjorie Woodruff dedicated an public art installation Spiral: The Lucy E. Parsons Memorial. One

Surrogacy Should Not Be Market Inalienable
Commercial surrogacy is the process in which a woman is paid a fee to carry and deliver a baby to
term. Once the baby is delivered, the woman relinquishes all parental rights to the commissioning
couple who exclusively raise the child as their own. Altruistic surrogacy, by contrast, is an
arrangement where the surrogate receives reimbursement but only for the expenses that she may have
incurred during the pregnancy. In this essay I will argue that commercial surrogacy should not be
market inalienable. I will start by outlining Elizabeth Anderson s argument in Is Women s Labor a
Commodity? in which she offers a number of criticisms to commercial surrogacy. I will then outline
objections to the argument and highlight how her argument is highly speculative and does not provide
an adequate basis for the prohibition of commercial surrogacy.
The first argument that Anderson proposes is that commercial surrogacy turns women s labor, that is,
bearing and giving birth to the child, into alienated labor. She equates commercial surrogacy to
subcontracting work in manufacturing industries, making this parallel because the surrogate is
expected to treat her child like a final product with which she is expected to have no emotional bond
with. Anderson argues that one can expect the surrogates to develop an emotional bond with the child
regardless of the terms of the contract. Moreover, treating the pregnancy like another form of
commercial production violates the precious emotional

Connection To Australian Communities
Jesse Sheals, Parklands High School TAS.
Bring the community connection back to life. In every town, in every city from the West Coast of
Tasmania to Arnhem in the Northern Territory. Every Australian is part of many broad communities.
But why would I write about bringing the Australian community back to life you may ask. Here is my
answer, I grew up in a small town on the West Coast of Tasmania, our community was strong, our
community was fun, nevertheless, we always had something to do around the town, but now that
community and many other communities have slowly died with major need of revival for Australia s
youth and families across our pristine country.
Our communities need a shakeup to give our local youth and families the best chance in life.
Currently, the communities have lost contact with the people causing fewer opportunities within local
areas and leaving Australia s youth jaded with few options to make the utmost of their childhood. I

The Psychological, educational, emotional and social effects of divorce can be

Fahrenheit 451 Quotes Fire
It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and
changed (Bradbury 3). Towards the beginning of the novel it is noticeable that fire is praised by the
protagonist and those who choose to conform to society s rules. In this quote in particular, fire is being
used as a tool against literature. The books are being demolished. However, fire is used with intentions
to be positive. Almost in a way that the fire is doing society a favor by getting rid of the vast
knowledge in the books. From what is to come, this concept is only half of the value of fire. As the
novel unravels it is evident that it could be both good and bad. 2. One time, as a child, in a power

Language Acquisition Of Language Development Essay
Language is perceived as the way humans communicate through the use of spoken words, it involves
particular system and styles in which we interact with one another (Oxford 2009).
Children s acquisition of language has long been considered one of the uniquely defining
characteristics of human behaviour. Even today, it is widely thought that children acquire their native
language from the imitation of their parents, caregivers or the people in their daily environment. In
this essay I will go through what the typical stages of language acquisition in children are, I will
explain and show examples of cognitive disabilities and other difficulties in acquiring language, show
the theories that explore how language is acquired and see if these theories account for children who
are not cognitively impaired but who still do not acquire language.
In nearly all cases, children s language development follows a predictable sequence. For example, at 6
8 months babbling occurs, 9 18 months a child is at a one word stage or holophrastic stage, 18 24
months a two word stage and by 24 30 months they are at a telegraphic stage where they can form
sentence. This is the case with most children however some children experience some difficulties in
acquiring language. If a child has not spoken by the time they are 2years of age, it is advised that they
be brought to a doctor to be assessed. The most common reason for late or deteriorating speech is a
hearing problem. If this is not the

Brazos Theological Argumentary On The Bible Exodus
On the individual side of commentaries, I used the Brazos theological commentary on the bible
exodus by Thomas Joseph White to analyze Ex 2:1 21. The main difference with The New Interpreter
s Bible is that this book seems to be solely focus on the events in exodus. Before the introduction we
are given a set of series prefaces compose of acknowledgements and abbreviations to help us read the
book. The organization of the book starts with an index named contents where we are given the
number of chapters and subcategories of these chapters. In the chapter part we start with Introduction,
then Deliverance from Egypt: Exodus 1 12, Wilderness: Exodus 13 18, Covenant: Exodus 19 24,
Cultic Rituals: Exodus 25 31, and at last Fall and Eschatological Restoration: Exodus 32 40. The
introduction is divided in three categories, the darkness and light of god, the division of the book of
exodus, the four senses of scripture. These points summarize of the book literally. First the darkness
and light of god, Mr. Joseph White argues that the dense dark aspects are often around us. Sometimes
we get the idea that God has abandoned us. We may think so because we have always seen God as a
God of dazzling brilliance (Rev. 21:11; Hebrews 12:29) and God in good times. However, this type of
idea is challenged when one reads Exodus 20:21 As the people stood in the distance, Moses
approached the dark cloud where God was. Where the author of the commentary gives us a basic

placing it into another whose organ has failed, or is injured. It is known to be life saving 80 percent of

one being organ rejection. (WebMD) Organ transplants have quite some history. The first successful

John Basilon Leadership Essay
For our legacy leader paper I have been assigned to select a leader who has had a positive impact on

John Basilone. John Basilone was a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp who earned
the Medal of Honor during World War Two. He was a leader who left a resonating impression in the
Marine Corp and the American people during a time of great turmoil; and while not a military
intelligence soldier his story has left an impression on me as a leader in today s Army. On the 25th of
October 1942 John Basilone and his Platoon were engaged in a battle at Guadalcanal that had already
endured for two days. At midnight the Japanese began an attack in which hundreds of Japanese
infantrymen rushed the remaining American lines. Sergeant Basilone, who was an experienced
machine gunner was in charge of two heavy machine gun sections, quickly organized his formation
and began to manage the fight. There are numerous accounts of the actions he took on the battlefield
that day including running through gunfire and grenade bursts to resupply his men with ammunition
and operating the machine gun himself. Eventually during a small break in the fighting, Sergeant
Basilone managed to reorganize his machine guns and remaining men into an improved defensive
position which ultimately lead to

Anion Of An Aldol Reaction In Which An Enolate Ion Formed By
An aldol reaction is an addition reaction in which an aldehyde or ketone is attacked by an enolate ion
of the same compound (Klein, 2015), but can also be an enolate ion of another compound. The enolate
ion formed is due to an anion coming in to deprotonate the alpha carbon of a carbonyl compound
(Klein, 2015). The general result of an aldol addition is always a β hydroxy aldehyde or ketone, but
can also undergo condensation as it sometimes loses a small molecule or water or an alcohol group
which will produce a different product altogether. This reaction can also serve as a chain elongation as
it forms a new C C bond (Mayo, Pike, Forbes, 2015). The hypothesis for this aldol reaction was to
yield dibenzalacetone, a bright yellow precipitate, with a 1:2 molar ration of acetone and

In the stepwise mechanism, as shown in figure 1, an enolate is formed in the acetone compound when
a hydroxide ion deprotonates its alpha carbon due to benzaldehyde s absence of an alpha carbon with
any available protons. The carbon anion then proceeds to attack the carbonyl carbon on the
benzaldehyde carbon, which then results in a chain elongation as well as the oxygen receiving its lone
pair of electrons causing an instability issue. The oxygen then attacks a water molecule, taking a
hydrogen atom to produce an alcohol group. This is the general condition of a simple aldol reaction
(Klein, 2015). However, another hydroxide ion deprotonates the alpha carbon which is centered
between the alcohol and carbonyl groups, creating another

Nancy Wexler was clearly motivated to accomplish her goals of finding a treatment/cure by the factors
of personal tragedy such as when her family members were being affected by the disease and also by
the advances of DNA technology such as when she discovered the gene responsible for the disease,

approach of discovering a knowledge base such. For instance, this enabled scientists to discover some
facts of HD such as that it affects parts of the brain. Because of this knowledge, people such as
Americo Negrette can investigate this fact even further by discovering neurological (brain) diseases
that helped Dr. Wexler find the genetic cause of HD disease in the end. It is important to note that a

Suffering In Dante Alighieri s Inferno
Dante Alighieri s Inferno is a work of literature with many gruesome and intense scenes that leave a

punished at different degrees depending on the sins they committed while they were alive. Through all
of the intense parts of this story, what stood out the most to me was when the characters ventured into
the Ninth Bolgia of the Eighth Circle of Hell. Canto XXVIII of Inferno is rather harsh to read due to
the goriness of what is happening to the sinners in this part of the story. As Dante and Virgil make
their way down into the Inferno, their experiences continually grow in intensity. When they reach the
Eighth Circle of Hell, they are among the sinners who are suffering due to their fraudulence. In the

concerning body shape, the clothes we wear, or the color of our skin. Stereotyping is a natural instinct
that humans have because they feel the need to classify people in order to not feel threatened by them.
Humans feel an obligation to know and understand people but do not necessarily want to be associated
with them, thus they place people into specific groups, labeling them. One of the primary ways that
we stereotype people is by their race. Being a minority that has always been prejudiced against in
America, African Americans are often judged because of the way that they speak. Black students have
struggled in academic settings that use Standard English, such as in the common American classroom.
African American Vernacular English (AAVE) harms Black students through discrimination on
standardized tests and in classroom environments.
AAVE is a variation of what is commonly referred to as Standard English, and is predominantly
spoken by African American communities across the United States. Unlike many other variations of
English, AAVE is not regional so African Americans speak more or less the same way all across the
country. These sociolinguistic parallels are because African Americans are oriented to a sense of
ethnic solidarity and nation wide cohesiveness due to their extensive history of fighting in unity for
the same victories (Fought, 2003). The possibility that AAVE

The Epic Of Gilgamesh And Gilgamesh Essay
While the women in the Epic of Gilgamesh may not be the primary focus of the epic, which instead
recounts more of Gilgamesh s own trials and travails, they still play quite vital roles in their
interactions with both Enkidu and Gilgamesh. Women such as Shamhat, Ninsun, and Ishtar in The
Epic of Gilgamesh are often portrayed with a particular emphasis on their intrinsic connections to
civilization and in the case of Shamhat and Ninsun, in terms of their motherly characteristics as well
which serves as their primary influence over men. When taken into account with Gilgamesh s
overarching quest for immortality, this inherent connection that women have with civilization, and
particularly so through their roles as mothers of not just a single character, but in general of the entire
progeny of civilization itself, lends to the notion that women themselves are the very progenitors of
civilization who will ultimately uphold Gilgamesh s own quest for immortality. One of the first
women of particular importance and influence to appear in the epic is Shamhat the harlot. Shamhat is
initially introduced to the wild man Enkidu as a means to tame him, as [her allure is a match] for even
the mighty (The Epic of Gilgamesh, Tablet I.141). This characterization of Shamhat, with a particular
emphasis on the power of her allure and sexuality, puts forth the preliminary notion that the primary
source of a woman s power and influence stems from her sexuality. Moreover, Enkidu s acceptance of

Comparing The Story Fox Enchantment And The Old Nurse s Story
Ghosts, Foxes and Manors...A Perfect Combination Ghosts come in all different shape, sizes and
forms, which now includes foxes. In some Chinese ghost stories, there are ghosts called fox spirits.
These are ghosts that leave behind the carcass of a fox when they die. One Chinese fox spirit story
Fox Enchantment is written by Pu Songling. A western ghost story The Old Nurse s Story by English
writer Gaskell, produces no fox spirit. However, both stories have similarities, one being the violent
nature of the ghosts. These stories do have differences though, such as the form that these ghosts
choose to take. In both, the Chinese and the European stories, the ghosts have violent tendencies. In
the story Fox Enchantment , Dong Xiasi, is called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After refusing to have sex with the ghost woman, he dies. She then moves on to the friend that Dong
was drinking with. He also begins to waste away. One night, in hopes of freeing himself of the ghost,
he lights incense. This was successful in killing the ghost and a fox is found in the spot she previously
inhabited. Throughout the entire ghost story, the fox spirit wants nothing more than to kill the men she
sleeps with. She kills these men in a very cold and calculated manner, by having them wither away
into nothing, yet still demanding sex from them. When they refuse, she kills them just as she did with
Dong. This shows just how malice and violent she can be in order to obtain her goal. Similarly, in the
European story The Old Nurse s Story , there are several ghosts including a little girl and a grown
man. The story begins with a nurse maid named Hester, and a little girl named Rosamond living in
Furnivall Manor House. One day Rosamond goes missing, and is discovered outside on the snow
covered ground, cold and nearly dead. The next morning, Hester asks her why she went outside, and
she responds that a little girl beckoned to her. Throughout the story the little girl continually beckons

(Lipczynski, Wilson, Goddard, 2009) Managerial and behavioural theories have been developed with the intention of providing a more realistic insight into how contemporary organisations function. This paper will address how the managerial and behavioural theories differ to the neoclassical approach of the firm, and to what extent they enhance our understanding of firms. At its most basic, neoclassical is reliant upon the surrounding market conditions controlling the decisions of firms. The Neoclassical approach to the firm provides us with a market wide framework from which we can make predictions on future outcomes. During the eighteenth century economic thinking was heavily influenced by the growing textile industry, where the majority of suppliers were producing homogenous products; leaving no motive for the economic theory being developed to account for diverse market conditions. (Lipczynski, Wilson, Goddard, 2009) According to The Modern Corporation and Private Property Revised Edition (1969) written by Berle and Means, out of The 200 Largest Non Financial Corporations in the United States the number classed as Management Controlled increased from 88 to 169 from 1929 to 1963 respectively. (Berle and Means, 1968) Amidst the globalisation of firms and the rise of the stock exchange, firms have become more complex and there ownership has become more diluted. The supermarket industry is an example of how firms have become more multifaceted; selling thousands of heterogeneous products, buying from countless suppliers and being owned by whoever chooses to buy shares on the stock exchange. Modern Technology And Science Rule ords Since the 18th and 19th century the world has spiralled into an ever changing and fast paced place where the possibilities are endless and technology and science rule. There was the introduction of machines, modern technology and science which gave the world incredible inventions such as the motorcar, aeroplane, the radio and electricity. These are the things that bought civilisation into modernity, it changed not only how people used the world but how they saw the world and envisaged the future. As times changes, architects gracefully chose to or were forced to adapt to the needs and conditions of their present world which were created by this Modernity. Some of these conditions which will be analysed are; the way in which society started to reject traditions and believe in the present and future, the initial reactions of scepticism towards the development of technology and imagination becoming important as people s views on the world started to shift. The early 19th century was a tumultuous time for civilians and young soldiers alike living in Germany, with unthinkable losses in the war and an uncertain political future, this time of uneasy life with hopes for a better future created widespread despair and wild hopes through the country (Gay 2008, p315). Essay about Democratic Peace Theory The idea that democracies do not fight each other can be traced back to the writings of Immanuel Kant over two hundred years ago in essay On Perpetual Peace , however, only in the early 1980s and with the writings of Michael Doyle was the idea consolidated. According to Doyle and other advocates of the democratic peace theory, liberal democratic states have been able to maintain peaceful relations amongst themselves, but are prone to wage war against non democratic regimes. In order to prove this theory, vast databases have been constructed of historical dyadic relationships between states as well as detailed breakdowns of incidents of inter state war. The conclusions reached are best shown in the work of Bruce Russett who has argued that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So the theory suggests that because democracies externalise their interstate norms, they resolve disputes with other states like them in a peaceful way. Hence domestic inner state policies influence their foreign policies. However, this proclamation is disputed by C. Layne who argues that the crux of this theory is that if the assumption that democracies promote their peaceful inner state norms and beliefs, then they shouldn t ever threaten other democracies, especially not in a crisis. I will use the case study of the Trent affair to provide evidence of how war was avoided. I will argue that in this case, war was avoided not because of the domestic pacific influence on foreign policy but because of other strategic reasons. In 1861 there was an incident when the British mail ship Trent which was transporting J. M. Mason and J. Slidell on route from America to England, was stopped by the USS San Jacinto and the two men were arrested. This caused outrage amongst the British public, writes Layne, adding some of the reports from the time such as the people are frantic with rage... All civilizations have erected monuments to not only prove they existed, but because they believed they would remain permanently. The Ancient Greeks were no different, portraying their ideal standards of beauty and proportion into their sculptures. Their ideal perception of adulation represented the highest form of perfection, comparable to the infinite impeccability of their gods and goddesses ( ). Evidently, the Ancient Greeks ideals served as a prerequisite that transcended into the ideals of their successors, the Ancient Romans. The Marble Statue of a Bearded Hercules exemplifies the emergence of unique Roman standards intertwined with the praised idealism of the Ancient Greeks. The Romans were heavily influenced by the Greeks, as Greek art was engrossed by the Romans resulting in the development of new standards of beauty and proportion, from creating numerous copies of Greek sculptures. This era included many social and political reforms, which were brought about due to monopolies, and trust corporations. One the key pieces of legislation that was a prime example of the progressive era, was the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906. These cheaper products allowed for more competition between these cheaper brands and the more dominant more expensive brands. However, these cheaper brands did provide stiff competition for the dominant brands, but in this case was not necessarily a good thing. While the cheaper products did save those companies money, it hurt them in the public interest in the long run. Once the baby is delivered, the woman relinquishes all parental rights to the commissioning couple who exclusively raise the child as their own. Altruistic surrogacy, by contrast, is an arrangement where the surrogate receives reimbursement but only for the expenses that she may have incurred during the pregnancy. In this essay I will argue that commercial surrogacy should not be market inalienable. I will start by outlining Elizabeth Anderson s argument in Is Women s Labor a Commodity? in which she offers a number of criticisms to commercial surrogacy. I will then outline objections to the argument and highlight how her argument is highly speculative and does not provide an adequate basis for the prohibition of commercial surrogacy. The first argument that Anderson proposes is that commercial surrogacy turns women s labor, that is, bearing and giving birth to the child, into alienated labor. She equates commercial surrogacy to subcontracting work in manufacturing industries, making this parallel because the surrogate is expected to treat her child like a final product with which she is expected to have no emotional bond with. Anderson argues that one can expect the surrogates to develop an emotional bond with the child regardless of the terms of the contract. In this quote in particular, fire is being used as a tool against literature. The books are being demolished. However, fire is used with intentions to be positive. Almost in a way that the fire is doing society a favor by getting rid of the vast knowledge in the books. From what is to come, this concept is only half of the value of fire. As the novel unravels it is evident that it could be both good and bad. 2. One time, as a child, in a power failure, his mother had found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You must remember, burn them or they ll burn you, he thought. Right now it is as simple as that (Bradbury 123). This excerpt demonstrates Montag s mindset of every man for themselves . He knows those of law enforcement are after him as he had fled the city as a wanted criminal. Fire is his new tool for survival, without it he is left hopeless. He knows his enemies are after him and he must use fire before they force it upon him. This excerpt does not explain a specific topic and it is rather broad but it reveals his loneliness due to his actions to explore the world of literature. 9. And what lights the sun? Its own fire. • 33. Language Acquisition Of Language Development Essay Language is perceived as the way humans communicate through the use of spoken words, it involves particular system and styles in which we interact with one another (Oxford 2009). Children s acquisition of language has long been considered one of the uniquely defining characteristics of human behaviour. Even today, it is widely thought that children acquire their native language from the imitation of their parents, caregivers or the people in their daily environment. In this essay I will go through what the typical stages of language acquisition in children are, I will explain and show examples of cognitive disabilities and other difficulties in acquiring language, show the theories that explore how language is acquired and see if these theories account for children who are not cognitively impaired but who still do not acquire language. In nearly all cases, children s language development follows a predictable sequence. For example, at 6 8 months babbling occurs, 9 18 months a child is at a one word stage or holophrastic stage, 18 24 months a two word stage and by 24 30 months they are at a telegraphic stage where they can form sentence. This is the case with most children however some children experience some difficulties in acquiring language. If a child has not spoken by the time they are 2years of age, it is advised that they be brought to a doctor to be assessed. The most common reason for late or deteriorating speech is a hearing problem. If this is not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Brazos Theological Argumentary On The Bible Exodus On the individual side of commentaries, I used the Brazos theological commentary on the bible exodus by Thomas Joseph White to analyze Ex 2:1 21. The main difference with The New Interpreter s Bible is that this book seems to be solely focus on the events in exodus. Before the introduction we are given a set of series prefaces compose of acknowledgements and abbreviations to help us read the book. The organization of the book starts with an index named contents where we are given the number of chapters and subcategories of these chapters. In the chapter part we start with Introduction, then Deliverance from Egypt: Exodus 1 12, Wilderness: Exodus 13 18, Covenant: Exodus 19 24, Cultic Rituals: Exodus 25 31, and at last Fall and Eschatological Restoration: Exodus 32 40. The introduction is divided in three categories, the darkness and light of god, the division of the book of exodus, the four senses of scripture. These points summarize of the book literally. First the darkness and light of god, Mr. Joseph White argues that the dense dark aspects are often around us. Sometimes we get the idea that God has abandoned us. We may think so because we have always seen God as a God of dazzling brilliance (Rev. 21:11; Hebrews 12:29) and God in good times. However, this type of idea is challenged when one reads Exodus 20:21 As the people stood in the distance, Moses approached the dark cloud where God was. Propaganda In Casablanca A reading of Casablanca beyond it s pretense of being an old Hollywood romance is the interpretation of the film as a piece of American or Allied propaganda during its time of release. Present day, the word propaganda gets a bad reputation, and many consider it a form of manipulation that doesn t belong in art, however, it is of my belief that, seeing as all art contains a message that it wishes to convey to its audience, all art is, in some form, political or supports some school of thought or ideology. For clarity, I will define my use of the word propaganda to mean the dissemination of information in favor of an ideology or cause, for the means of garnering sympathy towards the cause and validating the emotions of sympathizers. It is known to be life saving 80 percent of the time, but it is a major surgery that carries many me potential risks and complications the biggest one being organ rejection. (WebMD) Organ transplants have quite some history. The first successful kidney transplant was performed not even a century ago, in 1954. Despite this small time gap, many technologies have been discovered in this field. Organ transplantation is being performed much more commonly but there are still many improvements that are needed to be made. (Transplant Village) Although organ transplants are supposed to save lives, it may not be worth the risks; it can easily cause health complications and economic instability to both the donor and recipient. For all, medical risks and psychological concerns can occur if the surgery is not successful, or if the donor and/or recipient do not recover fully. (Lohse) In order to prevent the body from rejecting an organ, immunosuppressant drugs are to be taken for the rest of the patient s life. • 37. John Basilon Leadership Essay For our legacy leader paper I have been assigned to select a leader who has had a positive impact on my growth as a leader and a Military Intelligence professional; as well as discuss the legacy that I would like to leave behind. In this paper I will discuss lessons that I have learned from the story of John Basilone. John Basilone was a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp who earned the Medal of Honor during World War Two. He was a leader who left a resonating impression in the Marine Corp and the American people during a time of great turmoil; and while not a military intelligence soldier his story has left an impression on me as a leader in today s Army. On the 25th of October 1942 John Basilone and his Platoon were engaged in a battle at Guadalcanal that had already endured for two days. At midnight the Japanese began an attack in which hundreds of Japanese infantrymen rushed the remaining American lines. Sergeant Basilone, who was an experienced machine gunner was in charge of two heavy machine gun sections, quickly organized his formation and began to manage the fight. There are numerous accounts of the actions he took on the battlefield that day including running through gunfire and grenade bursts to resupply his men with ammunition and operating the machine gun himself. Eventually during a small break in the fighting, Sergeant Basilone managed to reorganize his machine guns and remaining men into an improved defensive position which ultimately lead to ... The President laid upon his staff the determination to do whatever possible to win the election . With this approval, Nixon s staff, headed by G. Few people think twice about it. We Americans think we know everything about it, but do we really? The truth is, alcohol is in fact a drug. It is not one to take lightly either. Whenever an American sees a couple of guys drinking beers at a bar or a couple in love having a glass of wine, those people are really just doing drugs and trying to get a high. According to a recent article, Alcohol is a factor in 40 percent of all violent crimes today. According to the Department of Justice, 37 percent of almost two million convicted offenders currently in jail, report that they were drinking at the time of their arrest. (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence) Sadly, alcohol is most frequently correlated with offenses of murder, rape, assault, and child and spousal abuse. Aside from crime, alcohol takes a heavy toll on the American economy. It is estimated that the cost of excessive alcohol consumption in the United States totaled about $223.5 billion in 2006 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). This equates to about $1.90 per drink; meaning that for every drink bought, it is costing taxpayers about $1.90. Further research indicates that in these $223.5 billion represent loss in workplace productivity, health care expenses, criminal justice expenses, and motor vehicle crashes. • 40. Anion Of An Aldol Reaction In Which An Enolate Ion Formed By An aldol reaction is an addition reaction in which an aldehyde or ketone is attacked by an enolate ion of the same compound (Klein, 2015), but can also be an enolate ion of another compound. The enolate ion formed is due to an anion coming in to deprotonate the alpha carbon of a carbonyl compound (Klein, 2015). The general result of an aldol addition is always a β hydroxy aldehyde or ketone, but can also undergo condensation as it sometimes loses a small molecule or water or an alcohol group which will produce a different product altogether. This reaction can also serve as a chain elongation as it forms a new C C bond (Mayo, Pike, Forbes, 2015). The hypothesis for this aldol reaction was to yield dibenzalacetone, a bright yellow precipitate, with a 1:2 molar ration of acetone and benzaldehyde (Handayani Arty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the stepwise mechanism, as shown in figure 1, an enolate is formed in the acetone compound when a hydroxide ion deprotonates its alpha carbon due to benzaldehyde s absence of an alpha carbon with any available protons. The carbon anion then proceeds to attack the carbonyl carbon on the benzaldehyde carbon, which then results in a chain elongation as well as the oxygen receiving its lone pair of electrons causing an instability issue. The oxygen then attacks a water molecule, taking a hydrogen atom to produce an alcohol group. This is the general condition of a simple aldol reaction (Klein, 2015). However, another hydroxide ion deprotonates the alpha carbon which is centered between the alcohol and carbonyl groups, creating another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Nancy Wexler Case Study Nancy Wexler was clearly motivated to accomplish her goals of finding a treatment/cure by the factors of personal tragedy such as when her family members were being affected by the disease and also by the advances of DNA technology such as when she discovered the gene responsible for the disease, courtesy of this. We know that Mendelian s law of inheritance had been accepted into the scientific approach of discovering a knowledge base such. For instance, this enabled scientists to discover some facts of HD such as that it affects parts of the brain. Because of this knowledge, people such as Americo Negrette can investigate this fact even further by discovering neurological (brain) diseases that helped Dr. Wexler find the genetic cause of HD disease in the end. It is important to note that a vague scientific fact can contribute to a specific issue, which may eventually lead to some incredible discovery. I am always stuck in the middle. I am too young to converse with the adults but I am too old to run around with the kids. So I sat there taking everything in. Eventually I became fed up with my isolation. I picked myself up and made my way over to where my mom was seated. Even though I wasn t planning on socializing I would be content just listening to conversation. I was tuned out for the most part, humming the tune of a pop song I had heard on the radio. In Dante Alighieri s imagining of Hell, sinners are severely punished at different degrees depending on the sins they committed while they were alive. Through all of the intense parts of this story, what stood out the most to me was when the characters ventured into the Ninth Bolgia of the Eighth Circle of Hell. Canto XXVIII of Inferno is rather harsh to read due to the goriness of what is happening to the sinners in this part of the story. As Dante and Virgil make their way down into the Inferno, their experiences continually grow in intensity. When they reach the Eighth Circle of Hell, they are among the sinners who are suffering due to their fraudulence. • 45. Stereotyping Is A Natural Instinct That Humans Historically, humans have always been separated into groups based on appearance, whether that is concerning body shape, the clothes we wear, or the color of our skin. Stereotyping is a natural instinct that humans have because they feel the need to classify people in order to not feel threatened by them. Humans feel an obligation to know and understand people but do not necessarily want to be associated with them, thus they place people into specific groups, labeling them. One of the primary ways that we stereotype people is by their race. Being a minority that has always been prejudiced against in America, African Americans are often judged because of the way that they speak. Black students have struggled in academic settings that use Standard English, such as in the common American classroom. African American Vernacular English (AAVE) harms Black students through discrimination on standardized tests and in classroom environments. AAVE is a variation of what is commonly referred to as Standard English, and is predominantly spoken by African American communities across the United States. Unlike many other variations of English, AAVE is not regional so African Americans speak more or less the same way all across the country. These sociolinguistic parallels are because African Americans are oriented to a sense of ethnic solidarity and nation wide cohesiveness due to their extensive history of fighting in unity for the same victories (Fought, 2003). • 46. The Epic Of Gilgamesh And Gilgamesh Essay While the women in the Epic of Gilgamesh may not be the primary focus of the epic, which instead recounts more of Gilgamesh s own trials and travails, they still play quite vital roles in their interactions with both Enkidu and Gilgamesh. Women such as Shamhat, Ninsun, and Ishtar in The Epic of Gilgamesh are often portrayed with a particular emphasis on their intrinsic connections to civilization and in the case of Shamhat and Ninsun, in terms of their motherly characteristics as well which serves as their primary influence over men. When taken into account with Gilgamesh s overarching quest for immortality, this inherent connection that women have with civilization, and particularly so through their roles as mothers of not just a single character, but in general of the entire progeny of civilization itself, lends to the notion that women themselves are the very progenitors of civilization who will ultimately uphold Gilgamesh s own quest for immortality. One of the first women of particular importance and influence to appear in the epic is Shamhat the harlot. Shamhat is initially introduced to the wild man Enkidu as a means to tame him, as [her allure is a match] for even the mighty (The Epic of Gilgamesh, Tablet I.141). This characterization of Shamhat, with a particular emphasis on the power of her allure and sexuality, puts forth the preliminary notion that the primary source of a woman s power and influence stems from her sexuality.
