The document discusses the cover design for a magazine called "The Classic" which aims to commemorate classic rappers from the past. The masthead will be written in a swirly font to seem classy. Research showed hip hop audiences have become more mainstream, allowing a £5 cover price. The masthead will be gold to represent rap symbols. The cover will have a black rim and white center with a portrait in the middle and cover lines on the left. The price and barcode will be bottom left.
2. Cover Page
In the end I decided to call my magazine ‘The Classic’ as the magazine is supposed to
commemorate old rappers such as Tupac, Notorious B.I.G, Ice Cube and Mobb Deep,
which revolutionised Rap, and were the classic rappers and status symbols.
The Masthead will be written in a swirly writing, to make the magazine seem classy and
sophisticated, and to portray the flow and smoothness of Hip-Hop. The stereotypical,
hegemonic view of Hip-Hop fans is that they are in the income group C2-E, and that it is
sort of urban ‘from the street’ music.
But looking at my audience profiling I researched the Demographics from the XXL
magazine, which showed that Hip Hop has actually broken of this stereotypical income
bracket, to become more mainstream, which also makes the £5 pound cover price more
legitimate
The Masthead will be gold, as the combination of gold and black seemed very popular
in my questionnaire, and it represents the static symbols associated with Rap/Hip Hop.
The magazine cover will have a black rim, and be white in the middle.
There will be a big Medium Close Up in the centre of the page. The cover lines will be
listed on the left side of the cover.
The price and the barcode will be at the bottom left of the magazine cover.
4. Content Page
On my content Page, I will take along shot of one of my
actors, which will cover most of the left hand side of the
Page. On the right of the Picture will be all of the contents ,
listed in chronological order, and with the most exciting
articles highlighted. The highlighted contents will also have a
brief on sentence summary of the content of the article
underneath.
The headline on top of the page will be ‘ What’s up’written in
a gold bold font, but it is important that the content page
doesn’t get clustered, as it doesn’t make it comfortable to
read.
6. Double Page Spread
The Interview, which will be written down in the form of a
transcript will cover both pages, but there will also be several
pictures. One picture will be on the top of the page. This picture
will show artist sitting on chair, so the reader can actually
almost imagine them self talking to him.
Below the picture, the text start. In the middle of the page, on
the wrote side will then be a smaller the picture of the artist
standing on the red carpet, to convey the importance of the
rapper.
The text will continue on the left side, and there will be another
larger image of the rapper standing on stage, which will cover
the whole top of the second page.
