1) The document discusses plans for a magazine aimed at audiences aged 18-30 that follows the underground music scene in the UK, focusing on upcoming artists in niche genres.
2) The proposed front cover would feature a medium close-up photo of an artist against a graffiti wall, with the title in a bold compressed font to fit the long title.
3) Initial ideas for interior pages include a contents page with artist photos corresponding to sections and a double-page spread profile of an artist with a large photo and background-colored text.
3. Searching the depths of the Uks
underground music scene
The idea
The idea was to create a magazine for the niche
audience who follows the underground scene
specifically in the UK.
It is aimed at those in the age bracket of B-E. This
age bracket was specifically chosen as following
a niche genre requires sophistication but it is
also played in clubs.
I wanted to focus on upcoming artist within the
genre as I felt as though this would lean more
towards the sophisticated side of the magazine
but would also add a level of added interests
with stories of the artists.
4. The Front Cover
Medium close up – I will have a medium close of Alex tulip of
congi infront of a graffiti wall making sure it is bold in colour
to contrast the title. I would like the photo to go over the
top of some of the writing to give it a 3d effect.
The masthead – The underground – will be in a plain colour
like black, grey or white to contrast or compliment the
contrasting colours.
I will have cover lines in a small font image. to add to
sophistication of the magazine and to advertise the
contents.
The title will be in font Nueve Helvetica compressed as it is
bold and eye catching. The compressed font also allows
me to fit the long title on the page.
I will use rule of thirds to help me get a nice image for the
front cover. By using the rule of thirds it will remind me to
leave enough space for the masthead and skyline and
cover line around the image

6. Contents page
The contents page will have images surrounding the
text, the text will run in a small paragraph down the
page.
The numbers next to the contents will be large to give
added attention.
I am unsure on a background yet but images will be
placed around the page to compliment each other. I will
use lines going from text to number and within the gaps
of the numbers I will place images of what is on the
page eg. artist image for double page spread. The
images will be of two other artists. One will be a fun
image promoting the photographic pages in the
magazine and the other images will be another artist.

7. The double page spread
The double page spread will include a story of Congi. It
will give information on their story and how they have
made it into the music scene.
There will be a photo of the duo in the right corner that
will fill most of the right side of the double page spread.
Text will be behind a white, grey or black colour
background and next to text will be the contrasting
colourful image of the group. I will try to use
complementary colours to give another design element
to the page to make it stand out. The writing will consist
of the story of the artist or group.

9. I have tried to apply a level of sophistication with
what intend to do with the magazine design to
reach that B income bracket.
After analysing my questionnaire results I found
that people where more interested in the design
of the magazine and its photography that will
compliment the artists as the audience will see
the magazine before they read it. It is for that
reason I am trying my hardest to create a
magazine that has a fresh style that will fit with
the type of music and ultimately what the target
audience would want to see and read.
10. Although the music itself is associated with a
clubbing culture unlike magazines such as
Mixmag I will not be showing clubbing in the three
pages I design as in the questionnaire people did
not want to see gig/festival reviews but preferred
to see information on the artist or a review of an
album.
I will not be promoting any sort of sexualisation of
women within the magazine as it is aimed at both
sexes.
