Commonwealth of Learning and opposing to the
motion is Dr Robert Kozma, Emeritus Director
and Principal Scientist at SRI International
 "Both Sir [John] and Dr. Kozma were making the
same statement, i.e. technology CAN make a
difference in education. Sir John stated that he
wished technology was used in a manner more
enhancing to education but from his viewpoint it
CURRENTLY is not being used in such a manner

Assessment is the evaluation of children's progress
toward learning outcomes. It can include testing and
quizzes, but it should include much more.
When children learn along many pathways, they
bring together work in several topics, their
explorations may be deeper and broader than the
perspectives afforded by text books.
Comprehensive assessment involves collecting and
understanding a wide range of information about
children's progress.

The role of assessment
In the classroom, assessment fulfils three main purposes:
Assessment informs the learner about learning progress and
learning challenges.
Children can only overcome the obstacles to their learning if

Technology and active learning are vital part in
the learning process of each student. An article
by Paulson and Faust define active learning is
anything that students do in a classroom other
than merely passively listening to an instructor’s
lecture.This includes everything from listening
practices which help the students to absorb
what they hear, to short writing exercises in
which students react to lecture material, to
complex group exercises in which students
apply course material to “real life” situations
and/or to new problems.

Active learning instructional strategies can be created and
used to engage students in thinking critically or creatively,
speaking with a partner, in a small group, or with the entire
class , expressing ideas through writing, exploring personal
attitudes and values giving and receiving feedback and
reflecting upon the learning process.
With the kind of learners that we have today, active learning
is the best way in teaching. Students are more active unlike
the students before. Engaging them in every activity will help

taught to them. As this Chinese proverb says “Tell me, I’ll

Though IRI is not as good as
computers, I believe that it
can bring a good amount of
learning to every student.
Prior to the advancement of
technology, IRI had already
brought a lot of learning to
the students who used it.

This technology can
improve the listening
skill of the students
and will encourage
participation because
of the instructions
they can hear
through the IRI.

I can see learning advantages using
this technology because it will get my
students to listen very well and will
teach them to follow certain
instructions. Other than that, they can
gain a lot of information and
knowledge through the different topics
that IRI can teach them. According to
studies, IRI has demonstrated positive
impact in learning in many developing
countries.

I will incorporate audio in my
reading class to teach them
proper pronunciation and
right phonetic sounds. It will
be very useful to improve
their reading skills by
listening to the narrators and
at the same time will improve
their comprehension.

evolving technology has allowed different forms of
delivering these audio programs including CD players and
MP3 players. IAI, which only requires an audio device and
an adult facilitator, reaches large numbers of teachers and
learners who are isolated by distance and poor
infrastructure. It can be used in almost any setting, from
formal classrooms to community learning centers to
outdoor venues. EDC uses Interactive Audio Instruction to
deliver education to students, train teachers and mobilize
communities in some of the hardest-to-reach places in the
world, establishing sustainable systems with consistently
positive results.

1 Audio is a flexible medium which means that
there are many applications within an
educational context. IRI and IAI help me in my
MSEP (Musical, Sinning at Edukasyong
Pampalakas) subject. Listening to different
tempo and texture of music and dancing to
folkdances are one of the many aids of audio
learning. I believe that there is no learning
advantages and disadvantages of audio to
video learning. It depends upon the learners.
Auditory learners rely on hearing to process
information. Sounding out words, spelling out
loud and hearing patterns of sound help them

Working in groups or giving oral reports allows them to talk
out their ideas and to listen to the ideas of others, engaging
them in the learning process. Williams reports that “Students
may remember points made in connection with the songs that
they would not retain from a textbook.” Singing helps them
to remember information, such as names and places, dates
and vocabulary. Visual learners benefit from seeing ideas
represented in image form. Drawing pictures of new words
and diagramming, mapping or charting new concepts helps
them visualize and understand relationships, such as how
parts work to make up the whole. Providing handouts with
key lecture points or asking students to write summaries help
visual learners review what they’ve learned and keep track
of important information. Fantasy is another way to engage
these learners, as students must visualize verbal ideas and
create mental images.

TOOLS TO IMPROVE STUDENT LEARNING

As a teacher, I believe books are still the best tool in
teaching. It may sound traditional, but it has proven to be
very effective tool in teaching over the century. But we have
to go with the changes in our educational system as much as
the changes in the type of learners that we have. With the
advancement of technology comes the advancement of
learners. We now have the 21st century learners who are
inclined to learn using technology. That is why we have to
let the traditional and modern tools in teaching to meet
halfway in order to improve student learning.

From the list of technologies above, tablet computers and ipad
are the tool that I would like to use where students can read books
using technology, and we call them the ebook. For me this is the
best tool that teachers can use to improve student learning. With
the use of tablet or ipad, students can read their books, see the
pictures and most of all watch education videos that will help them
understand clearly the lessons. It has also interactive applications
where students learn the content, follow instructions and at the end
of the lesson will take the assessment. They can track what they
learned and find ways to improve their learning.

In most schools, especially in developed
countries, students will just bring their tablet
and they find everything that they need in
school using that small gadget. They can write
notes, read their assignments and answer their
quizzes, watch videos and listen to audio

Board is a line of interactive whiteboards produced by the
Calgary, Alberta-based company Smart Technologies. Using
this technology, teachers will encourage the students to
participate actively in classroom discussions. They said, a
picture is worth a thousand words when we use smart
board and lcd the students will be able to see visually the
concept that we are teaching them. They can understand
the concept well than just mere imagining the lessons that
we are teaching. It also allows them to have real life
experience

Accordingly, in technology savvy classrooms, a teacher acts as
a facilitator who sets project goals for the students and
provides them with the necessary resources and guidelines to
reach those goals. As shown in the picture the student will be
able to experience what they learn and become hands-on in
their classes. And it give them in depth knowledge. They said,
a student sitting in his classroom can learn how people in a
small village in Africa live life by taking a virtual tour or
seeing real life photos right now. Students can easily acquire
in-depth knowledge on any subject using different types of
technology such as smart board and LCD projector.

The two technologies that I choose to use
in my classroom are just some of the
technologies that can improve the learning
the students. Below is the list of other
technologies that will promise improved
learning in every student. They are all
helpful in giving instruction, assessment
and with in-depth content.
