My media product represents the social group of "Trendies", who are known for being fashionable and keeping up with music trends. I researched this group on the website "UK Tribes" and chose a pop artist, Tianna Angel Mangham, who dresses in the typical skinny jeans and colorful style of Trendies aged 16-25. By styling Tianna similarly to popular artists like Beyonce and Nicki Minaj, my magazine will attract Trendies seeking new music and a representation of their fashionable lifestyle.
1. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
During the research and planning steps of producing my media product, the audience
profile and artist profile was very important as I had to ensure the certain product I
was creating would fit and attract my target audience which were the members of the Pop
genre social group who are also known as townies and trendies. Clearly knowing my social
group has given me a clear idea of what type of audience will be buying my music
magazine. Now that I have identified this fact it would make it easier to style my artist
and design the magazine to fit the interests of my target audience. I carried out some
research on my target audience on a website called "UK Tribes" this website has a large
variety of categories which the youth of nowadays fit into. There is a variation of
different tribes under each name of Aspirant and Mainstream which contains the two groups
related to my target audience and magazine. My main target social group from the UK
Tribes research is "Trendies" which fits with my music genre (pop). From the research the
website expressed that trendies are known as "the biggest outwardly ‘brand-me’ Tribe –
they’re universally aspirational in fashion and music". From this research I believe my
magazine will need to include and feature new fresh artists and people that are up to
date on with the new and current trends. They also need to be pretty mainstream and very
aspirant, my magazine will need to be offered online and by print as this is where the
audience research for the new/upcoming music and artists.I will also need to ensure my
artist(s) have a similar fashion/clothing style as the audience members and target group.
I have chosen my artist "Tianna Angel Mangham" who is an upcoming pop artist who likes to
dress with a very typical trendy style, often wearing skinny jeans and a lot of colour.
2. All of these factors represent the social group which I have researched and found information
about. My music artist is aged 17 years old which represents my target audience who are aged
between 16-25 years old. I am comparing my upcoming artist "Tianna Angel Mangham" to pop
singer "Beyonce" or "Nicki Minaj". She is portraying the image of both of them combined
together.
3. I have represented my artist "Tianna Angel" in the trendies aspirant social group as are these two
pop singers Nicki Minaj and Beyonce by styling in very basic bold clothing representing my audience
as they like to be bold and trendy and keep up with what is popular in our society. Styling my
artist like these two artists will definitely help gain customers and attract them to my product as
it gains their interest. I have also represented my social group within my article and other images
of my artist within my media product such as; within my article on my music artist, the writer asks
Tianna a series of questions related to her music career and her life and where she wants to go.
Some of the questions asked have huge relativity to what my audience profiles include such as
gigging and concerts and the information I gained from the UK Tribes; the social group like finding
new music and throughout my article Hannah questions Tianna about any new music she would be
interesting in recording and releasing next.
