Marketing Battleships
Film trailers are an important part of a film’s marketing campaign they are produced with
money left over from the film’s main budget. They are adverts for the film and are simply
shorter versions of a film. They inform potential audiences about a film with the purpose
of encouraging people to see the film at the cinema. They are designed to compliment
film posters and vice versa. They are made to help audiences understand the genre of
the film and convey what the film will be about. They are designed to appeal to an
audience and get the audience interested in the upcoming film. Trailers are aimed ay the
same audience as the films they publicise. There are certain features in a trailer to
appeal to specific groups of people. The trailers help fill cinemas as they gain the
audiences is interest and give the film a USP (unique selling point). The USP is what
separates one film to another and makes the audience want to see the film. Trailers are
shown at the cinema, on TV and online and are usually accompanied by poster
campaigns and radio campaigns to give wide coverage for new film releases. They are
often shown on TV, on the internet on sites such as Youtube and also played in cinemas
before the beginning of another film. Most trailers are produced at the same time as the
film is being edited and the timing of the trailer campaign is important. It must be shown
far enough in advance to generate excitement about the films release but not so early
that people forget about the film the time it is released.
Battleships




These are the main posters for the movie, they both have a very similar color
scheme of blacks, blues and grey to convey the movie as being quite dark.
They are quite mysterious also so as not to give the plot line away and keep
the audience still interested in seeing the movie. With the scifi appearance it
also gives away the genre of the film which will therefore gain interest from
am audience who are interested in this genre.
Using their posters in their marketing strategy they have been able to appeal to a number of audiences, they have
Rihanna for a younger audience, Liam Neeson for more film fanatics, also the poster on the bottom right suggests
a romance story which appeals to an audience who likes romance films. The characters body language and outfits
also suggest an action film with lots of fighting in it. By noting that the film is directed by the director of the
successful film of Transformers so this will attract attention of viewers who enjoyed this film. The robot shown in
one of the trailers also suggests an action/scifi genre which will appeal to a wider audience.
This marketing package signifies the genre of the film in a number of ways, the choice
of actors shows this along with the design of the posters and the color scheme. The
large number of posters allow the marketing company to attract a wide range of
audiences, scifi, action and romance. The trailer and posters also gives away some of
the plot however avoiding what actually happens in the end so the audience will still
be interested in seeing the film. By using the posters and trailers to reveal more and
more about the film as further marketing products are released it builds suspense up
for the film and increases the audience interests in the movie. It also reveals more
and more of the genre and the story line of the film allowing the viewers to see more
of the plot and are introduced to more of the characters.

  • 2. Film trailers are an important part of a film’s marketing campaign they are produced with money left over from the film’s main budget. They are adverts for the film and are simply shorter versions of a film. They inform potential audiences about a film with the purpose of encouraging people to see the film at the cinema. They are designed to compliment film posters and vice versa. They are made to help audiences understand the genre of the film and convey what the film will be about. They are designed to appeal to an audience and get the audience interested in the upcoming film. Trailers are aimed ay the same audience as the films they publicise. There are certain features in a trailer to appeal to specific groups of people. The trailers help fill cinemas as they gain the audiences is interest and give the film a USP (unique selling point). The USP is what separates one film to another and makes the audience want to see the film. Trailers are shown at the cinema, on TV and online and are usually accompanied by poster campaigns and radio campaigns to give wide coverage for new film releases. They are often shown on TV, on the internet on sites such as Youtube and also played in cinemas before the beginning of another film. Most trailers are produced at the same time as the film is being edited and the timing of the trailer campaign is important. It must be shown far enough in advance to generate excitement about the films release but not so early that people forget about the film the time it is released.
  • 3. Battleships These are the main posters for the movie, they both have a very similar color scheme of blacks, blues and grey to convey the movie as being quite dark. They are quite mysterious also so as not to give the plot line away and keep the audience still interested in seeing the movie. With the scifi appearance it also gives away the genre of the film which will therefore gain interest from am audience who are interested in this genre.

Using their posters in their marketing strategy they have been able to appeal to a number of audiences, they have Rihanna for a younger audience, Liam Neeson for more film fanatics, also the poster on the bottom right suggests a romance story which appeals to an audience who likes romance films. The characters body language and outfits also suggest an action film with lots of fighting in it. By noting that the film is directed by the director of the successful film of Transformers so this will attract attention of viewers who enjoyed this film. The robot shown in one of the trailers also suggests an action/scifi genre which will appeal to a wider audience.
  • 5. This marketing package signifies the genre of the film in a number of ways, the choice of actors shows this along with the design of the posters and the color scheme. The large number of posters allow the marketing company to attract a wide range of audiences, scifi, action and romance. The trailer and posters also gives away some of the plot however avoiding what actually happens in the end so the audience will still be interested in seeing the film. By using the posters and trailers to reveal more and more about the film as further marketing products are released it builds suspense up for the film and increases the audience interests in the movie. It also reveals more and more of the genre and the story line of the film allowing the viewers to see more of the plot and are introduced to more of the characters.
