The document describes the components and operation of an internal gear pump. It lists the main parts as the external gear, gears, body, balancing blocks, cap, base, and sealings. It explains how internal gear pumps work by trapping liquid between rotating gear teeth which forces the liquid out of the discharge port. The document also includes calculations for sizing components and addresses some difficulties encountered in the project.

Procedure for Inspection Pistons and Cylinder Liners Erkut Denizci
This cylinder liner and piston condition monitoring procedure holds guidelines for inspections, and trouble shooting. It has been prepared in order to give engineers with limited experience a better understanding of what they are observing and how they should interpret what they observe.
Many of the examples may be considered superfluous by experienced engineers, nevertheless, every piece of information is useful for everyone.
This guideline provides technical, safety and health instructions for safely conducting “Inspection through Scavenge Ports” tasks being conducted onboard. This guideline does not and can not cover every possible unique condition, hazard or situation that may arise during subject tasks. This site specific, product specific hazards and situations must be addressed by senior engineers using the appropriate principles and considerations.
Technical Presentation on External Gear PPT
Introduction
A gear or cogwheel is a rotating machine part having cut teeth, or cogs, which mesh with another toothed part to transmit torque.
Geared devices can change the speed, torque, and direction of a power source.
Gears almost always produce a change in torque, creating a mechanical advantage, through their gear ratio, and thus may be considered a simple machine.
The teeth on the two meshing gears all have the same shape. Two or more meshing gears, working in a sequence, are called a gear train or a transmission.
A gear can mesh with a linear toothed part, called a rack, thereby producing translation instead of rotation.
The gears in a transmission are analogous to the wheels in a crossed belt pulley system. An advantage of gears is that the teeth of a gear prevent slippage.

3. GEAR
PUMP
DESCRIPTION:
Often used on thin liquids such as solvents and fuel oil, they excel at effi-
ciently pumping thick liquids such as asphalt, chocolate, and adhesives
The internal gear pump is non-pulsing, self-priming, and can run dry for
short periods. They’re also bi-rotational, meaning that the same pump can
be used to load and unload vessels. Because internal gear pumps have only
two moving parts, they are reliable, simple to operate, and easy to maintain.
How Internal Gear Pumps Work
1. Liquid enters the suction port between the rotor and idler teeth. The arrows indicate
the direction of the pump and liquid.
2. Liquid travels through the pump between the teeth of the “gear-within-a-gear”
principle. The crescent shape divides the liquid and acts as a seal between the suction
and discharge ports.
3. The pump head is now nearly flooded, just prior to forcing the liquid out of the dis-
charge port.
4. Rotor and idler teeth mesh completely to form a seal equidistant from the discharge
and suction ports. This seal forces the liquid out of the discharge port.
4. GEARMaterial: Steel
Function:
External Gear: An external precision gear pump is usually limited to a
maximum working pressure of 210 bars (21,000 kPa) and a maximum
speed of 3,000 rpm. Some manufacturers produce gear pumps with higher
working pressures and speeds but these types of pumps tend to be noisy
and special precautions may have to be made.
Suction and pressure ports need to interface where the gears mesh
Gear: main components in pump which push fluid by rotation.
5. bodyMaterial: 6061 Aluminum Alloy
Function:
Control Fluid on the inlet side flows into and is trapped between the
rotating gear teeth and the housing
15. difficulties
And
solutionsDIFFICULTY : Limited time to finish the project.
SOLUTION: Divide the project between the members.
DIFFICULTY: Software problems (not fast enough and not enought resources to
make a original project)
SOLUTION: Changwe the computer and install new softwares.
conclusion
As a drafter we learned to work as part of a team; deal with difficulties, new soft-
ware, lack of time, missing information and gathering of information.
It was helpful to prepare ourselves for the final project so that way we will know
how to overcome and succeed in our final project.
We liked the experience because it was challenging and a new way of working
during class.
