Sleeper Curve Argumentative Analysis
Many people love to look back older movies and television shows. Shows like The Mary Tyler Moore
Show, Murphy Brown and Frasier that we consider quality entertainment may not be as good for us as
we once thought (Johnson 2005). This is not bad news though just because quality entertainment of
the past may not be that good for our minds, television shows today have more cognitive benefits than
we think. Using the Sleeper Curve theory, media theorist Steven Johnson effectively argues for a
change in what people consider cognitive junk food and what is nourishing for our minds (Johnson).
Johnson s formal diction and contemplative tone helps the audience understand his theory. Johnson
opens the article with a scene from Woody Allen s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the past fifty years, television has increased the demands on the same mental abilities. Johnson
says that this growing complexity involves three primary elements: multiple threading, flashing
arrows and social networks, (Johnson). Johnson explains that multiple threading began in 1981 with
Hill Street Blues. Hill Street Blues weaves together a collection of up to ten distinct threads
throughout the episode. Johnson shows the readers a graph of the narrative thread throughout a typical
episode of Hill Street Blues. Johnson shows the reader another chart for the most ambitious show on
TV to date, The Sopranos, which routinely follows up to a dozen distinct threads over the course of an
episode (Johnson). By providing these charts, Johnson shows his readers a portrait of the Sleeper
Curve over the past thirty years in popular television. Before Hill Street Blues, the golden rule among
television executives was that audiences were not comfortable following more than three plots in each
episode, but within just three decades shows like The Sopranos have become popular because of the
multi threaded plot lines. Johnson believes that because of this burst in narrative threads, the amount
of flashing arrows , inserting something in the script that reduces the amount of analytic work on the
viewer, have greatly decreased. He says

Swing Dance History
Single swing is one kind of swing dance that developed with the swing style kind of jazz music in the
1920s 1940s. Swing refers to a style of jazz music where the emphasis is on the off beat part in the
music and it influenced the evolution of swing dance because the feeling of the dance was swinging .
It uses a strong rhythm section that results in more wind and brass instruments. Swing bands also
featured soloists who improvised during their performance. Sometimes two or three band members
even improvised at the same time. But, not everyone liked swing music and the wild dancing that went
with it. This kind of wild dancing includes a mix of tap, Charleston, and improvisation. But, different
kinds of swing dance were created as a result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s why I liked it because when I forgot dance steps, I made up my own steps since this kind of

many different partners and figuring out how to be a good follower no matter what kind of lead my
partner is. All in all, I had a swingin good time at my first swing dance class. I learned a lot about
swing dancing and had fun doing it at the same

Is Ethics Promoted By Human Resource Management Affects...
The purpose of this paper is to examine the manner in which ethics promoted by human resource
management affects the operations of an organization. The human resource management is responsible
for implementing the accepted behavior of the stakeholders to ensure that the company runs smoothly.
The company is dependent on the human resource in maintaining and promoting ethical behaviors as
it has the responsibility of educating, training and communicating the behavior of the stakeholders.
This paper clarifies the manner in which the human resource management engages in various
operative activities for instance protecting the company from infringing the set laws and regulations
through practicing unethical behaviors. It is very easy for the human resource management to
implement a code of ethics through the established policies of the company that establishes the ethical
behavior and helps in governing the daily activities of the organization. It is evident that promoting
ethics yields more benefits to the organization as for instance the employees are motivated thereby
increasing the productivity of the company.
The theoretical consideration on ethics in business focuses on the ecological as well as social
responsibilities of a company within a community as ethics are regarded an important aspect in the
external self presentation and the perception of the organization in economic terms (Köster, 2002).
The relationship between human resource management and ethics has been

The Legacy Of John Smith
When the name John Smith is mentioned, people of all ages are familiar with it and could tell a lot
about him. Why is this? How is it that a man who lived over 400 years ago still so popular today, more
specifically to our children? The answer to that question is because John Smith can be viewed as one
of America s earliest heroes. His leadership was vital to the survival of the Jamestown colony. Most
people are familiar with his famous quote, he that will not work shall not eat. He carried all the
qualities of an influential leader, and even had a mystical legend with Pocahontas, in which no one
truly knows what happened. His leadership characteristics and qualities possessed hard work, grit, and
determination. He was an individualist that had an American dream. However, during his time, the
colonists did not look at it as an American dream. Without him and his leadership, America may not
be what it is today. In John Smith s writings in From the General History of Virginia, one can make
the interesting observation that Smith constantly refers to himself as he instead of I . He directly
shows the reader his personal sense of pride and self confidence in himself. An example of this from
the text would be when he said, But seeing by trade and courtesy there was nothing to be had, he made
bold to try such conclusions as necessity enforced; though contrary to his commission, he let fly his
muskets, ran his boat on shore, whereat they all fled into the woods. (61)

Ryan Mclean Success
In a perfect world, we would all be successful from the first day of school. However, such a perfect
world does not exist within our reality. For most of us, success is determined not by how well we start
the race of life, but how well we get back up when we fall over. Through failure and redemption
comes wisdom. That wisdom is what makes my stepfather Ryan Mclean, a networker for Broadband,
a success. When asked how he evaluated success he responded, success is determined by how happy
you are and how little you have to worry. If you can survive without a struggle and can find happiness
in what you are doing, then you are successful . What is interesting about Mr. Mclean s view on
success is how it is applicable to any economic group. A wealthy

Teenagers And Social Media
Now more than ever living in the age of technology, social media has impacted our lives greatly. With
a click of a button we have the ability to communicate with friends, family, and ev en those we may
never have the opportunity to meet face to face. Some Believe that the use of social media allows us to
practice freedom of speech and provide an outlet for free expression. Unfortunately in some instances
social media, also gives us the opportunity to engage in behavior that normally we wouldn t do in a
face to face setting. Teenagers often don t understand that they have no privacy in internet usage, and
that social media allows users to access people information and use to insult or bully them. Once you
have posted something online it is other in the internet world forever. Any potential employer can
access your information and use that information in deciding whether or not to give you a job. Often
whatever you post can haunt you in the future. While many social media websites have maintained
privacy restrictions there is still a lot of information that can be accessed with a click of a button.
Many people including teenagers, don t realize that whatever you may post on line cannot be erased.
Often users will post their issues and problems seeking and outlet whether for attention or to have
someone to talk to. Once something is posted it allows others to post their comments and opinions
which can be negative. Social media sites such as Facebook,

Essay on Ireland Strikes Back
Ireland Strikes Back
A movement was started in Ireland to regain home rule. This movement was started in 1858 by a
secret revolutionary society known as the Fenian Brotherhood. This group was created to help solve
the crises of the potato famine, the poor government, and the ongoing problems with the church.
Between the years of 1856 and 1870, the Fenians organized an uprising in Ireland with invasions in
British cities and outbreaks in Canada (de Nie). The goal of this society was to achieve independence
from England by using force. This revolution would be successful if certain groups in the society were
strong. The Fenian Brotherhood started a movement that influenced Britain s and the United States

A generation of Catholic men of modest origins in society, succeeded in gathered a conspiracy to
undermine the British rule in Ireland (Garvin 471). Those who rebelled wanted to conserve the social
evils that generated the revolution to survive politically. Living in horrendous stress due to the
economy, the Irish decided to act on their anger. Leaving during the famine 1 million people sought a
new and richer life in the United States. While the economic depression was occurring another 2
million people left to seek this new life. With the mass emigration the culture of Ireland was
deteriorating. James Stephens, the IRB (Irish Republican Brotherhood) leader of the 1860 s thought
the famine also ruined the hope of an Irish political revolution. Patrick Pearse was afraid that if the
nation died the Irish would turn away from their Gaelic traditions (Garvin 474).
Due to the poor law system, the Irish people weren t pleased with their government and also with the
trading system. With the bad economy the Irish thought that if they separated from Great Britain that
they will achieve more as an independent country. The Irish Parliament, through corrupt practices,
kept the British interest to unite Protestants and Catholics against the corrupt legislature. The British
saw the inability of the people of Ireland to govern themselves when the Fenians requested for the
Irish to govern themselves. The British Parliament looked down on the

The Anasazi Indians Essay
The Anasazi Indians
From the scattered references made about the ancient Anasazi Indians in
Tony Hillerman s A Thief of Time, one can identify several cultural characteristics of this mysterious
tribe. One can discover how they lived, where they lived, their religion, simple day to day activities,
and mysteries about their culture. Even though many references are made about this tribe, people will
never know the truth, for there is an unsolved mystery to why the Anasazi disappeared. Even to this
day no one knows what happened to them.
The location of over 100,000 Anasazi sites have been found outside of

On many walls all over the area, a drawing of Kokopelli can be found. These Indians also drew wide
shouldered forms called Kackina Spirits, and a quot;Big Chief quot; looking out from a red stained

There were many odd things about this tribe, such as, quot; Why did these people disappear after being
around for over 1,000 years? quot; No one knows where they went, but we do know they built roads.
They didn t have wheels nor pack animals. We also know they lived in a land of little wood and water.
The
Anasazi made very exquisite pots, but they made very odd drawings on them. Some pots were of a
deep rounded form, painted on the interior in rose with wavy pale
quot;ghost lines quot;. They had a geometric pattern enclosing two interlocked spirals, with two
hatched, serrated rectangles below the rim. Because of the oddness and rarity of these pots, some were
priced higher than $15,000. Some of the Weirdest things about these Indians is that they had too many
fingers an extra tooth on the right lower side, and a hole in the lower jaw.
As said in the introduction, no one knows what happened to these Indians.
Many believe they just disappeared, or were abducted by aliens, but no one knows, and probably will
never know what happened. Regardless of what scientists find, nothing can prove the truth,

Summer Break Definition
Winter break is a perfectly timed for students to enjoy the holidays, and take a much needed break
from school. This offers time to spend with family and relax without having to worry about their
studies. Due to the length, the break often leads to boredom near the end, and students can become
restless and in need of some excitement.
The holidays often start out with a bang, filled with family gatherings, and lot of gifts. The excitement
then seems to fade away until school goes back in session. Pole Position Raceway has the ideal
solution for breaking the winter boredom with action karting. This fast and exciting sport is sure to

Change And Rebirth In Scandinavian Literature
In Scandinavian literature, writers use journeys as symbols of change and rebirth. Through the
journeys, the characters discover the unknown aspects of their lives, recognize their worlds for what
they are, and choose the future they want to pursue. Some characters make sacrifice on their journeys
in order to experience the unseen beauty and to seek spiritual contentment. The little mermaid in Hans
Christian Andersen s story voluntarily sacrificed her fishtail and tongue for a wisp of love from the
prince after her first trip to the world above. Abbot Hans in The Legend of the Christmas Roses risked
his life on the trip to see the Lord s garden at Christmas Eve. The main characters in The Ugly
Duckling and The Red Shoes were driven to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Facing the dangerous route to the sea witch s residence, her heart was beating with fear, she almost
turned back. But by reminding herself of her goals, her courage returned. (68) She was not the
helpless, vulnerable, little princess in her father s palace, rather, she turned into a strong minded
woman who bravely sought for the truth about her nature and who willingly endured unimaginable
pain for love. The sea witch warned her about the terrible consequences of her decision: every time
your foot touches the ground it will feel as though you were walking on knives so sharp that your
blood must flow. (68) And more severely, if she failed to marry the prince, the first morning after he
has married another, your heart will break and you will become foam on the ocean. (69) Even though
her voice trembled and her face turned white as a corpse, she answered, I still want to try. (69)
However, the little mermaid s painful efforts did not come out as she expected. The prince treated her
as his lovely pet and she, who sacrificed her voice for legs, could not reveal the truth that she was the
girl who saved him. Yet the little mermaid held on to her beliefs, I will take care of him, love him, and
devote my life to him. (72) And so she did. As the prince fell in love with the neighboring princess, it
seems that the little mermaid s journey was going to come to a dreadful end. At the most frustrating
moment, on the edge of death, she danced for the prince to please him and refused to kill him for her
own life. Her devotion and selflessness shows her transformation from a sentimental, imaginative, and
impulsive mermaid girl to a rational, faithful, and mature human. In the end, Andersen indicated her
transformation by granting her a chance to obtain the immortal soul, a soul that only human could
have. At the end, the little mermaid kissed the bride s forehead and smiled at the

Organizational Performance ( Op ) Catches An Important...
Organizational performance (OP) catches an important element in case of empirical research in
business policy. Researchers often consider deliberately the performance of organizations on the basis
of
Structure
Strategy and
Planning
Several researchers like Gregory et al. examined the following three most important frameworks that
could be used to conceptualize the organizational performance (OP).
Goal approach
System resource approach
Constituency approach
Under the goal approach, the organization sets a goal(s) that could be attained by incorporating the
behavior of the employees by definition accordingly. Under the system resource approach, the
organization defines and sets an interrelated total task implying the external and internal factors upon
which the organization depends for its survival. In the constituency approach, the organization looks
for the opportunities for having the numerous constituencies applicable for both in external and
internal arena. It could be with the OP assessment focusing on the fulfillment of the constituency
needs.
Organizational performance covers three definite areas of firm results: (a) financial performance
(profits, return on assets, return on investment, etc.); (b) product market performance (sales, market
share, etc.); and (c) shareholder return (total shareholder return, economic value added, etc.) (Richard
et al., 2009).
The researchers assessed the relationship between

Societal Breakdown On The Island
Societal breakdown on the island in Lord of the Flies is due to the inherent evil of man
3.8: Develop an informed understanding of literature and/or language using critical texts.
Hypothesis: Societal breakdown on the island is due to the inherent evil of man
Jason Carvalho
Lord of the Flies is the name of William Golding s historically famous novel, yet it is more than just a
title. It is a kind of statement, a way of mocking the very existences of humanity. Reading this book I
came to a very profound and troubling conclusion that I struggle to accept: Societal breakdown on the
island is due to the inherent evil of man. I believe that the lack of societal influence is the cause of the
breakdown on the island, and not the inherent evil of man. Studying this further I found the novel
rather pessimistic and opinionated, to which I undertook additional research. My analysis of a range of
critical evaluations, turned up a profound number of contrasting views and opinion, of some which
partly aligned with my hypothesis and others with my viewpoint. However what is clear is that with
time the critics views changed, with more aligned, with my view point, that man is not inherently evil.
During this analysis I will make reference to the author William Golding in addition the work of
critics, Bernard F. Dick (1987), John F. Fitzgerald John R. Kayser (1992) and Kathleen Woodward
(1997), to deliver a compressive, in depth analysis into the cause of societal breakdown on

Dissociative Experience During Childbirth
The article I chose was Dissociative experience during childbirth. This experiment was assessing
whether or not labor pain, traumatic childbirth, obstetrical variables, and previous trauma were part of
causing a dissociative experience during childbirth. The method used to study the hypothesis was by
having 328 women completed five surveys up to 72 hours postpartum. They were between the ages of
18 42. Out of the group 68.6% were married or living with a partner and 43.3% had a job. The average
number of years the women spent in school was 8.8yrs. More than half (59.2%), did not complete high
school and only 2% (6) completed higher education. From the group, 19.2% of them had a miscarriage

The program R v2 version 10.0 was used to analyze the data.
The results indicated that dissociative experience was more common in women that considered their
childbirth traumatic. Some things that were associated with having dissociative experience are
previous trauma, obstetrical complications at birth, forceps, prematurity, complications with the infant,
not being happy with the maternity care, not having a job, a lot of pain, and education levels. A total of
11.3% (37 women) experienced significant dissociation. Sense of time changes, things occurring in
slow motion, not knowing what is going on, feeling uncertain or disoriented about where they were or
what time it was, things that they are not aware happened at the childbirth and blacking out or spacing
out were reported as being the most common dissociative symptoms. Below is a graph from the article
with details on the results; At the end of the experiment, the author found that Dissociative
experiences are possible during childbirth in particular symptoms. These symptoms include sensation
of a change in the pace of time, not being aware of certain things that happened, and disorientation.
Traumatic childbirth also impacted perinatal dissociation. Traumatic childbirth occurred when women
feared for their lives and their baby s lives, received news about some terrible obstetrical intervention

The Causes And Cures Of Schizophrenia
The causes, cures and intellectual comprehension in schizophrenia patients remains unknown.
Scientists have discovered that schizophrenia is a severe condition that develops by a combination of
biological, environmental, and unforeseen factors. Since this condition effects no more than two
percent of the population, it is challenging to find an adequate sample size for assessments and further
study. People suffering from schizophrenia are incapable of determining reality and show a wide array
of symptoms varying from delusions, hallucinations, irrational conduct and disorganized speech. The
complex severity of these symptoms make it difficult for scientists to find a remedy that works for all
patients. Recent studies have shown that identical twins have an increased risk of developing the
condition. The risk is increased by half in comparison to individuals who do not carry twin genetics.
Many wonder if schizophrenia is caused by a physical abnormality inside the brain, but it has not been
scientifically proven yet. Since twins are at the highest at risk for schizophrenia, it is essential to study
the behaviors, patterns and recovery methods of these patients.
A study conducted by Michael Harms suggests that one of the causes of Schizophrenia is determined
by the structure of the thalamus and a reduction in volume of the hippocampus. In the current study,
we assessed the volume and shape of the thalamus in subjects with schizophrenia and their
nonpsychotic siblings. The

The Negative Effects of Oil Spills Have on Nigeria, A letter
Dear President
My name is John Doe. I am writing this letter to inform you about the negative effects in Nigeria oil
spills have on its people and the environment around them. Oil spills pollute the water, killing animals
and plant life that inhabit the area around the spill. It is important that this problem is to be looked at
and solved. Nigeria s Niger Delta is one of the most oil polluted places on the planet with more than
6,800 recorded oil spills. Millions of barrels of oil were spilled into the Niger Delta.. Some people
inhabit the land around it. The water is there main resource to use. They use it for irrigation, drinking,
and bathing. They use the water for their everyday needs. The water is too polluted for them to drink
anymore and they can t use the water for irrigation because it is killing all of their crops. Multiple
people have suffered from illnesses from drinking the oil polluted water. Cleanups don t clean the land
very well even though they are supposed to clean deep into the ground. A percent of Nigerian
mangrove ecosystems have been destroyed out by oil. The known effects of oil on mangroves are
making the soil into acid, stop cellular respiration, and they do not let the roots get oxygen. The loss of
mangrove forests does not only decrease the life of plants and animals. They also affect humans. The
indigenous people living in the affected areas highly value these systems. The local people by the

The Mother Daughter Relationship and Self-Image Essay
Living in a world characterized by its fixation with appearance, it is no wonder that children,
especially girls, are learning to distrust and abuse their bodies. Susan Williams defines the structure of
female gender with the idea of a gender regime or the concept that gender is fluid and specific to time
and place (Williams 31). As one such environment, family life contains strong parental influences
capable of drastically altering the gendered spaces and therefore gender perception of children.
Specifically, the connection between mother and daughter body types and eating habits, examined
both racially and cross culturally, show that women can inadvertently inherit body dissatisfaction and
negative attitudes towards food a trend that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times girls change their natural eating patterns simply to appropriate a measure of control from
their mothers. Conversely, healthy maternal involvement and intimacy while maintaining and
encouraging a separate identity decreases the weight concerns of children (May 10). Although a lack
of power and desire for control may stimulate eating disturbances in young girls, it is the attitudes
around her which more frequently determine a girl s own attitude towards food. Across race and
culture, the manner in which maternal figures approach consumption and the beliefs they hold about
their own figures are the most probable predictors of their daughters level of weight concern. With the
ever extending hand of American mass media now reaching practically every corner of the globe, the
pressure mothers feel to be thinner and their inevitable dissatisfaction with their bodies does not bode
well for the attitude of their daughters. Whether intentionally or not, mothers inadvertently tell their
daughters that the body is an enemy to be controlled rather than a source of pleasure to be enjoyed
(Beattie 3). Although women may desire to feed and nurture as a part of their traditional role as a
mother, the closer they associate with white middle class values the more important thinness becomes
for both themselves and their children.
Conversely, there has been research which places the risk of skewed body

Examples Of Diction In Night By Elie Wiesel
Night by Elie Wiesel is an autobiography about his experience during the Holocaust when he was
fifteen years old. Elie is fifteen when the tragedy begins. He is taken with his family through many
trials and then is separated from everyone besides his father. They are left with only each other, of
which they are able to confide in and look to for support. The story is told through a series of creative
writing practices. Mr. Wiesel uses strong diction, and syntax as well as a combination of stylistic
devices. This autobiography allows the readers to understand a personal, first hand account of the
terrible events of the holocaust. The ways that diction is used in Night helps with this understanding.

Never. (page 34)
Elie Wiesel has experienced a horrible tragedy. When he repeatedly says over and over Never shall I
forget... he emphasizes his fear of what he has seen. He drills into the reader how traumatized he is.
This creates sympathy and makes the reader feel worse for Mr. Wiesel. Dramatic irony gives the
reader an advantage over the characters. This form of irony is where the reader knows something that
the characters do not. (Poor father! Of what then did you die?) (page 11) During this scene in the book
Elie s father has given the news to the other Jews that they are all required to wear the yellow star. His
father said The yellow star? So what? It s not lethal... (page 11) This is ironic because the star is what
killed nearly all of the Jewish people. Hate killed a countless number of innocent people because of
their beliefs. This is the dramatic Irony. Everything that Elie Wiesel uses to create his autobiography
makes it more that just a page taught

finish. The final score was 6 4, 3 6, 6 7(7 9), 7 6(7 3), 70 68, and the last set lasted a whopping eight

but they re actually a shade of yellow called fluorescent yellow . The first balls were white, and this all
changed when TV became mainstream. The colour was changed so television viewers will be able to
see the balls better.
Overall, tennis is more than just a game played on the court: it has had a rich history, played and
enjoyed by kings. Knowing more about the sport is as important as playing it because by doing so,
you will certainly enjoy it more. If you re planning to experience the thrill of tennis firsthand, just give

Phonics Vs. Phonics And Synthetic Phonics Essay
Phonics are essential to literacy and children s ability to learn to read and write. Phonics are a system
of associating letter symbols with speech sounds (Orton, n.d.). They have an important role in the
Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority: phonics and word knowledge [ACARA]. There are
two main concepts related to phonics they are analytical phonics and synthetic phonics. Diana Rigg
(2016) states that direct systematic instruction in phonics during the early years of schooling is an
essential foundation for teaching children to read (para. 3). Phonics are used by children to learn to
read and to write, they include letter identification, onset and rime, blends and the relationships
between blends and phonemic awareness (Hill, 2012, p.259) (Rigg, 2014). There are many teaching
approaches that may be implemented to teach phonics effectively. This essay will discuss, critique and
analyse phonics their importance and how different teaching approaches may be implemented to teach
phonics to students effectively. It will maintain that synthetic phonics have been proven to be more
successful in teaching children than analytical phonics, although it is imperative to use both a
synthetic and analytical approach to teaching children phonics.
There are many aspects involved in phonics, phonics can be either analytical or synthetic. According
to Anne Bayetto (2013) the National Reading Panel highly recommends phonics along with phonemic
awareness, fluency, vocabulary and

Request For Quotation (RFQ) Assignment It should be noted in the first instance that shipping and
freight is specialist in nature and it is best to entrust arrangements for long distance transport,

(Lock, 2007, p.348) in such circumstances if a relationship has been developed with a freight
specialist there may be an argument not to go out to competitive tender in the first place and adopt a

choice of freight and shipping companies a recommendation should be given for at least three

The Coordinated Management Of Meaning Theory
The Coordinated Management of Meaning theory (CMM) is a theory that is intriguing to me
personally because it is unlike any of the previous theories we have read about or talked about it. It is
the only theory so far that has actual steps to evaluate communication between two people. The CMM
theory has six building blocks to evaluate communication: content (what is said), speech act (the way
the content is interpreted), episode (what is inside and outside an interaction), relationships (scripted
way we interact with others) , autobiography (individuals view of himself or herself), and cultural
patterns (understanding of different cultures or societies when the content was said). This CMM
theory is viewed through the determinism human nature because the theory ... Show more content on

Analyzing Pina Bausch One Of The Most Influential
What a treasure is inherent in our bodies that expresses itself without words, and how many stories
can be told without uttering a single sentence. Wim Wenders.
Obsessive, infuriating, exhausting, magnetic, Provocative, Feminist, Extraordinary, Brilliant, Poetic, A
Crock, Indulgent, Deadening, and Superficial are just a few words used to describe Pina Bausch one
of the most influential and controversial choreographers of the twentieth century.
The high priestess of Tanztheatre changed the dance landscape forever. Her boundless imagination and
provocative choreography changed the perception of what could be thought of as dance. Her searing,
psychologically raw choreography pushed societal boundaries. She combined potent dramas and
dreamlike movements to create a powerful form of dance theater that influenced generations of
dancemakers her amazing body of work stands testament to her enduring vision, innovation and
creativity. She was motivated only by emotional truth and was not frightened to put difficult and
paradoxical feelings on stage. Every detail was important to
Bausch, every movement, gesture, because all of it was in service to the piece. Bausch didn t consider
what she did as choreography, but as expressing feelings by whatever means will best convey them.

Donald Trump Sociology
Donald Trump s unprecedented victory in the presidential election has polarized the nation, to say the
least. Some individuals exult. For many other Americans, however, the election s outcome represents
the beginning of a regime where fear dominates the sociopolitical atmosphere. Trump has been readily
forthcoming with his aggressive anti immigration policy, which in its worst state included, among
other strategies, a promise to deport all illegal immigrants and a plan to reinforce the border with
Mexico. Opponents accuse the president elect of racist motivations because his policy plan appears to
create a hostile environment that explicitly targets Latino minority groups.
Indeed, Trump has inflated the issues surrounding Mexican immigration ... Show more content on

Trump connects problems that were once associated with African American ghettos to the newer
Latino enclaves. These problems are not cultural but systemic, according to Massey: The out
migration of middle class families from ghetto areas left behind a destitute community lacking the
institutions, resources, and values necessary for success in post industrial society. Socioeconomic
immobility caused by historic institutional racism against blacks created communities in Los Angeles
where economic hardship was the norm. Unlike other immigrant groups who possess certain
economic and racial characteristics conducive to success in the modern social climate of the United
States such as the Korean Americans, Latinos can only make a feasible living in the high poverty areas
which blacks once occupied and were consequently forced to inherit all the deeply embedded social
issues of those areas. A Mexican culture of crime thus does not cause the high incidence of crime in
Los Angeles s economically desperate neighborhoods as Trump would have the nation believe. Rather,
the crime stricken culture present in the inner city is the symptom of systemic and historical processes
which dictate the modern environment in

brain differs because they have less stress and will rarely suffer from depression unlike a criminals

In the summer of 1973, Paul Allen, who knew more about computer hardware than
Bill Gates, shared an article with Gates buried on page 143 in Electronics
Magazine. The article described the invention of the 8008 micro processor chip by a young company
called Intel. Paul was surprised to receive the technical manual for the chip in the mail simply upon
request. Immediately, he went to work analyzing its capabilities. Due to the lack of transistors, the
8008 chip was very limited in its use, but Allen discovered despite the limitations, the chip was good
for repetitive tasks and mathematical data.

When Paul Allen entered college at Pullman, Washington, a town on the east side of the state, sixteen
year old Bill Gates traveled frequently by bus to visit him. On these long trips across the state, Gates
wrote a program that facilitated the reading of traffic information gathered by municipalities through a
device set up on the side of certain intersections. A long, rubber tube stretched across the road from
one of these devices, and each time a vehicle ran over the tube a punch was made in the roll of paper

Leadership, and the Government that Follows
Measuring a ruler s success can easily be defined in the satire Animal Farm. The spoof is based on a
totalitarian leadership. The four main characters in this book are the pigs on the farm. They go against
Napoleon s will and represent the white movement. The reason this story becomes prevalent in the
essay is because it shows how few people can turn around a society. Orwell describes in animal farm
just how he got his idea for the novel. I saw a little boy, perhaps ten years old, driving a huge cart
horse along a narrow path, whipping it whenever it tried to turn. It struck me that if only such animals
became aware of their strength we should have no power over them, and that men exploit ... Show

Many know Hitler as the murderous leader of Germany in the early nineteen hundreds. Hitler was a
brilliant leader arguably. Although un ethical, he was respected. People listened to him and followed
his guidance because he persuaded people so well. These people didn t have minds of their own so he

Hitler had a secured supreme political power. Hitler went on to gain their support by persuading most
Germans he was their savior from the Depression, the Communists, and the Jews along with other
undesirable minorities. After Hitler s rise, he began the Nazi party. Few would have thought that the
Nazi Party, starting as a gang of unemployed soldiers in 1919, would become the legal government of
Germany by 1933. The Nazi party rose and crashed. It became more finalized after 1925 when Hitler
was released from prison, and formally resurrected the Nazi Party. Hitler began rebuilding and
reorganizing the Party, waiting for an appropriate time to gain political power in Germany. Hitler
skillfully made his way through the Nazi Party politics and emerged as the sole leader. The Nazi party
once again began to fall yet was saved when new government officials were elected and new
campaigns were run. This now had captured over eighteen percent of the vote, making the Nazi party
the second largest party. Leading the Nazi Party got Hitler the advertisement he needed. German

Analytics, Old Navy Llc Essay
The ability to compete on analytics is made possible by certain qualities some companies possess
which allows them to collect and use immense amounts of data in a way that differentiates the success
and practices of those companies amongst any other businesses. Davenport and Harris (2007) define
analytics as extensive use of data, statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory and predictive
models, and fact based management to drive decisions and actions (p. 7). Therefore, to be able to
compete on analytics, a firm must not only use the data to extrapolate and execute strategies and
models in order to drive business, but also to use that data better and smarter than their competitors.
This requires forward thinking and continual developments of current analyses and practices. With
regard to Davenport and Harris s criteria and concepts on the ability to compete on analytics, Old
Navy LLC s practices will be analyzed to find whether the company is able to compete, is a
competitor, and how it competes, if at all.
Ability to Compete
In order to be an effective analytical competitor, Davenport and Harris (2007) assert that firms must
meet certain prerequisites. Those prerequisites are at least a moderate amount of quality data about the
type of business that analytics will support, hardware and software, the commitment of managers to
develop analytics, and executive sponsorship (Davenport and Harris, 2007, p.16). Analytics is about
extrapolating new information and

the precedent that the lawsuit s verdict established for future similar cases. Even though Bollea is a

is not a free pass for media organizations to release a video of him having sex. Gawker Media s

Does The Fruit Fly Experiment
Introduction
The purpose of this conducting this lab is to see how the rocket can be changed physically to make it
fly higher up after being launched. Not only is the rocket going to fly higher but also have to test to
see if there is a way to thoroughly protect an egg after landing to keep it from cracking/breaking.
Research on the average height a rocket flies based on the PSI used showed that the higher the PSI the
higher it tends to fly. Experimental Design
The experimental question is Will the amount of air pressure change the height the rocket flies?. The
independent variable is the amount of pressure in the rocket. The dependent variable is how high the
rocket flies. The control is a bottle with just air no water launched at 60psi.
Hypothesis
If the air pressure is raised higher than the other experimental group s air pressure then the rocket will
fly higher because of the increased force pushing off the water to make it fly higher.

I predicted that the higher PSI would force the rocket to go higher. I feel as though to the results
differed from the hypothesis because the air pressure pump was broken when group 1 was launching

building each rocket as well as each parachute. Lastly, we can t be sure the data is accurate because we
only have two group s data so we can t check the data and see if there is a pattern. Ways to improve
these errors could be to have one group work on the rockets. Another group taking all the data so one
group doesn t forget to put in the data. The last group to launch the rocket. We would also need to be
sure that all of the parachutes are the same as the math groups we worked with did not take down what
we needed to be built to match and instead did whatever they wanted to

The San Bernardino Shooting
The events of the San Bernardino shooting were a tragedy. 14 people were killed, and another 22 were
injured when a married terrorist couple staged an attack on a Christmas party. This was an unmitigated
catastrophe, but it spawned one of the most important security debates in recent memory. The FBI
wanted to unlock one of the suspects phones, but were unable to do so because of security measures
on the phone. The FBI wanted to brute force the password lock on the iPhone, but device would wipe
itself after 10 failed attempts to unlock the iPhone. Thus, the FBI asked Apple to create an
intentionally insecure iOS update, specifically for this iPhone, in order to bypass the security
restrictions. Apple disagreed with the FBI, and tried to avoid helping the FBI in such a way, arguing it
would undermine the purpose of security itself. Overall, Apple has the best argument, both legally and
as a matter of public policy.
Primarily, the FBI wants to protect American citizens from malicious threats, in this case terrorism.
Unlocking the iPhone in question could give extremely important information, not only to the case
itself, but to potential terrorist agents worldwide. The San Bernardino killers may have contacted
others for assistance, and the FBI will not be able to bring them to justice without aid from Apple. The
FBI cannot protect the American citizens, nor can it investigate crimes aided by the use of Apple s
electronic devices (in this case, an iPhone 5c) without Apple s

Sparta was known in Greek as Sparti. The city lied at the southern end of the central Laconia plain, on

their descendants were mostly the descendants of the Dorian invaders. Athens, on the other hand, was
the largest capital city of Greece. Its citizens were about 140,000. The region in which Athens was

Inbreeding Depression By Environment Interactions Essay
Inbreeding Depression
Inbreeding depression is a widely studied topic in the fields of not only genetics, but as well as the
fields of biology, ecology, etc. Directly speaking, inbreeding depression results in the loss or reduced
expression of a trait due to the mating between two closely related organisms (Hartl 547). As of today,
there are a plethora of studies and evidence that explain how and why inbreeding occurs within
populations even though it is deleterious for the populations. However, several of these experiments
are done in an unnatural environment or researchers have manipulated data in a way to deem the
results not truly representative (JM Pemberton et al.,2016). It is vital to discover and understand the
inbreeding depression of organisms in natural conditions so that this area of study is accurately
represented by reasonable data and the knowledge of this topic can be expanded accurately. The
article, Inbreeding Depression by Environment Interactions in a Free living Mammal Population
published in Heredity in November 2016, discusses research done on a population of sheep in St.
Kilda in attempt to discover inbreeding depression by environment interaction with unmanipulated
and true data. The sheep live on an isolated island, so it is assumed that inbreeding is high in the
population and genetic variation is low as well.
In this article, the researchers analyzed nine traits in the sheep for inbreeding depression by
environment interaction. These traits are

Jacqueline Kennedy s Influence On Fashion
Jacqueline Kennedy s style certainly left an impact on fashion from day one in the White House. Even
before her entrance, her clothing style was already being scrutinized (Adler 74). Luckily, she never
cared about what others thought about her appearance. Mrs. Kennedy never intended to influence
fashion as much as she did (Adler 92). After all, her tastes were far beyond the bounds of the
continent. Jacqueline Kennedy s style was described to be French inspired (Flaherty 38). On
inauguration day, she wore a beige wool coat with a sable collar and matching sable muff designed by
American designer Oleg Cassini (Adler 84). Both of their names instantly became a staple in the
fashion world. Mrs. Kennedy changed the reputation of Americans in ... Show more content on

Instead of following the custom of riding to the church, she decided to walk there accompanied by

Current Specifications
By examining data security in regards to Riordan, it is apparent that very little exists. Riordan`s data
security contains an assortment of random and disorganized systems that contain sensitive data,
however none of these systems are linked, nor are any of them current with respect to memory, speed,

training, and incidents involving complaints and harassment, are cataloged using Microsoft Excel,
which has no real security measures other than a password protection option.
Recommendations
Due to the lack in data security elements, the following recommendations are suggested: strategy and
risk assessment. Overall data security begins with the identification of risks and the strategy on the
solution to those risks. This can be accomplished through a Strength Opportunities, and Threats

while opportunities and threats are derived from external factors, such as hackers (Value Based

  • 2. Sleeper Curve Argumentative Analysis Many people love to look back older movies and television shows. Shows like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Murphy Brown and Frasier that we consider quality entertainment may not be as good for us as we once thought (Johnson 2005). This is not bad news though just because quality entertainment of the past may not be that good for our minds, television shows today have more cognitive benefits than we think. Using the Sleeper Curve theory, media theorist Steven Johnson effectively argues for a change in what people consider cognitive junk food and what is nourishing for our minds (Johnson). Johnson s formal diction and contemplative tone helps the audience understand his theory. Johnson opens the article with a scene from Woody Allen s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the past fifty years, television has increased the demands on the same mental abilities. Johnson says that this growing complexity involves three primary elements: multiple threading, flashing arrows and social networks, (Johnson). Johnson explains that multiple threading began in 1981 with Hill Street Blues. Hill Street Blues weaves together a collection of up to ten distinct threads throughout the episode. Johnson shows the readers a graph of the narrative thread throughout a typical episode of Hill Street Blues. Johnson shows the reader another chart for the most ambitious show on TV to date, The Sopranos, which routinely follows up to a dozen distinct threads over the course of an episode (Johnson). By providing these charts, Johnson shows his readers a portrait of the Sleeper Curve over the past thirty years in popular television. Before Hill Street Blues, the golden rule among television executives was that audiences were not comfortable following more than three plots in each episode, but within just three decades shows like The Sopranos have become popular because of the multi threaded plot lines. Johnson believes that because of this burst in narrative threads, the amount of flashing arrows , inserting something in the script that reduces the amount of analytic work on the viewer, have greatly decreased. Swing refers to a style of jazz music where the emphasis is on the off beat part in the music and it influenced the evolution of swing dance because the feeling of the dance was swinging . It uses a strong rhythm section that results in more wind and brass instruments. Swing bands also featured soloists who improvised during their performance. Sometimes two or three band members even improvised at the same time. But, not everyone liked swing music and the wild dancing that went with it. That s why I liked it because when I forgot dance steps, I made up my own steps since this kind of dance is all about improvisation. I also stayed open to learning the dance steps and toward the end of the class I felt like I knew what I was doing. I think what helped me the most was dancing with so many different partners and figuring out how to be a good follower no matter what kind of lead my partner is. The purpose of this paper is to examine the manner in which ethics promoted by human resource management affects the operations of an organization. The human resource management is responsible for implementing the accepted behavior of the stakeholders to ensure that the company runs smoothly. The company is dependent on the human resource in maintaining and promoting ethical behaviors as it has the responsibility of educating, training and communicating the behavior of the stakeholders. • 5. The Legacy Of John Smith When the name John Smith is mentioned, people of all ages are familiar with it and could tell a lot about him. Why is this? How is it that a man who lived over 400 years ago still so popular today, more specifically to our children? The answer to that question is because John Smith can be viewed as one of America s earliest heroes. His leadership was vital to the survival of the Jamestown colony. Most people are familiar with his famous quote, he that will not work shall not eat. He carried all the qualities of an influential leader, and even had a mystical legend with Pocahontas, in which no one truly knows what happened. His leadership characteristics and qualities possessed hard work, grit, and determination. He was an individualist that had an American dream. However, during his time, the colonists did not look at it as an American dream. Without him and his leadership, America may not be what it is today. In John Smith s writings in From the General History of Virginia, one can make the interesting observation that Smith constantly refers to himself as he instead of I . He directly shows the reader his personal sense of pride and self confidence in himself. An example of this from the text would be when he said, But seeing by trade and courtesy there was nothing to be had, he made bold to try such conclusions as necessity enforced; though contrary to his commission, he let fly his muskets, ran his boat on shore, whereat they all fled into the woods. • 6. Ryan Mclean Success In a perfect world, we would all be successful from the first day of school. However, such a perfect world does not exist within our reality. For most of us, success is determined not by how well we start the race of life, but how well we get back up when we fall over. Through failure and redemption comes wisdom. That wisdom is what makes my stepfather Ryan Mclean, a networker for Broadband, a success. When asked how he evaluated success he responded, success is determined by how happy you are and how little you have to worry. If you can survive without a struggle and can find happiness in what you are doing, then you are successful . What is interesting about Mr. Mclean s view on success is how it is applicable to any economic group. A wealthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This movement was started in 1858 by a secret revolutionary society known as the Fenian Brotherhood. This group was created to help solve the crises of the potato famine, the poor government, and the ongoing problems with the church. Between the years of 1856 and 1870, the Fenians organized an uprising in Ireland with invasions in British cities and outbreaks in Canada (de Nie). The goal of this society was to achieve independence from England by using force. This revolution would be successful if certain groups in the society were strong. Leaving during the famine 1 million people sought a new and richer life in the United States. While the economic depression was occurring another 2 million people left to seek this new life. James Stephens, the IRB (Irish Republican Brotherhood) leader of the 1860 s thought the famine also ruined the hope of an Irish political revolution. Patrick Pearse was afraid that if the nation died the Irish would turn away from their Gaelic traditions (Garvin 474). Due to the poor law system, the Irish people weren t pleased with their government and also with the trading system. With the bad economy the Irish thought that if they separated from Great Britain that they will achieve more as an independent country. They didn t have wheels nor pack animals. We also know they lived in a land of little wood and water. The Anasazi made very exquisite pots, but they made very odd drawings on them. Some pots were of a deep rounded form, painted on the interior in rose with wavy pale quot;ghost lines quot;. They had a geometric pattern enclosing two interlocked spirals, with two hatched, serrated rectangles below the rim. Because of the oddness and rarity of these pots, some were priced higher than $15,000. Some of the Weirdest things about these Indians is that they had too many fingers an extra tooth on the right lower side, and a hole in the lower jaw. • 11. Change And Rebirth In Scandinavian Literature In Scandinavian literature, writers use journeys as symbols of change and rebirth. Through the journeys, the characters discover the unknown aspects of their lives, recognize their worlds for what they are, and choose the future they want to pursue. Some characters make sacrifice on their journeys in order to experience the unseen beauty and to seek spiritual contentment. The little mermaid in Hans Christian Andersen s story voluntarily sacrificed her fishtail and tongue for a wisp of love from the prince after her first trip to the world above. Abbot Hans in The Legend of the Christmas Roses risked his life on the trip to see the Lord s garden at Christmas Eve. The main characters in The Ugly Duckling and The Red Shoes were driven to ... But by reminding herself of her goals, her courage returned. (68) She was not the helpless, vulnerable, little princess in her father s palace, rather, she turned into a strong minded woman who bravely sought for the truth about her nature and who willingly endured unimaginable pain for love. The sea witch warned her about the terrible consequences of her decision: every time your foot touches the ground it will feel as though you were walking on knives so sharp that your blood must flow. (68) And more severely, if she failed to marry the prince, the first morning after he has married another, your heart will break and you will become foam on the ocean. (69) Even though her voice trembled and her face turned white as a corpse, she answered, I still want to try. (69) However, the little mermaid s painful efforts did not come out as she expected. The prince treated her as his lovely pet and she, who sacrificed her voice for legs, could not reveal the truth that she was the girl who saved him. Yet the little mermaid held on to her beliefs, I will take care of him, love him, and devote my life to him. (72) And so she did. As the prince fell in love with the neighboring princess, it seems that the little mermaid s journey was going to come to a dreadful end. At the most frustrating moment, on the edge of death, she danced for the prince to please him and refused to kill him for her own life. Her devotion and selflessness shows her transformation from a sentimental, imaginative, and impulsive mermaid girl to a rational, faithful, and mature human. In the end, Andersen indicated her transformation by granting her a chance to obtain the immortal soul, a soul that only human could have. Researchers often consider deliberately the performance of organizations on the basis of Structure Strategy and Planning Several researchers like Gregory et al. examined the following three most important frameworks that could be used to conceptualize the organizational performance (OP). Goal approach System resource approach Constituency approach Under the goal approach, the organization sets a goal(s) that could be attained by incorporating the behavior of the employees by definition accordingly. Under the system resource approach, the organization defines and sets an interrelated total task implying the external and internal factors upon which the organization depends for its survival. In the constituency approach, the organization looks for the opportunities for having the numerous constituencies applicable for both in external and internal arena. It could be with the OP assessment focusing on the fulfillment of the constituency needs. Organizational performance covers three definite areas of firm results: (a) financial performance (profits, return on assets, return on investment, etc.); (b) product market performance (sales, market share, etc.); and (c) shareholder return (total shareholder return, economic value added, etc.) (Richard et al., 2009). Societal Breakdown On The Island Societal breakdown on the island in Lord of the Flies is due to the inherent evil of man 3.8: Develop an informed understanding of literature and/or language using critical texts. Hypothesis: Societal breakdown on the island is due to the inherent evil of man Jason Carvalho Lord of the Flies is the name of William Golding s historically famous novel, yet it is more than just a title. It is a kind of statement, a way of mocking the very existences of humanity. Reading this book I came to a very profound and troubling conclusion that I struggle to accept: Societal breakdown on the island is due to the inherent evil of man. I believe that the lack of societal influence is the cause of the breakdown on the island, and not the inherent evil of man. Studying this further I found the novel rather pessimistic and opinionated, to which I undertook additional research. My analysis of a range of critical evaluations, turned up a profound number of contrasting views and opinion, of some which partly aligned with my hypothesis and others with my viewpoint. However what is clear is that with time the critics views changed, with more aligned, with my view point, that man is not inherently evil. During this analysis I will make reference to the author William Golding in addition the work of critics, Bernard F. Dick (1987), John F. Fitzgerald John R. Kayser (1992) and Kathleen Woodward (1997), to deliver a compressive, in depth analysis into the cause of societal breakdown on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A total of 11.3% (37 women) experienced significant dissociation. Sense of time changes, things occurring in slow motion, not knowing what is going on, feeling uncertain or disoriented about where they were or what time it was, things that they are not aware happened at the childbirth and blacking out or spacing out were reported as being the most common dissociative symptoms. • 15. The Causes And Cures Of Schizophrenia The causes, cures and intellectual comprehension in schizophrenia patients remains unknown. Scientists have discovered that schizophrenia is a severe condition that develops by a combination of biological, environmental, and unforeseen factors. Since this condition effects no more than two percent of the population, it is challenging to find an adequate sample size for assessments and further study. People suffering from schizophrenia are incapable of determining reality and show a wide array of symptoms varying from delusions, hallucinations, irrational conduct and disorganized speech. The complex severity of these symptoms make it difficult for scientists to find a remedy that works for all patients. Recent studies have shown that identical twins have an increased risk of developing the condition. The risk is increased by half in comparison to individuals who do not carry twin genetics. Many wonder if schizophrenia is caused by a physical abnormality inside the brain, but it has not been scientifically proven yet. Since twins are at the highest at risk for schizophrenia, it is essential to study the behaviors, patterns and recovery methods of these patients. A study conducted by Michael Harms suggests that one of the causes of Schizophrenia is determined by the structure of the thalamus and a reduction in volume of the hippocampus. In the current study, we assessed the volume and shape of the thalamus in subjects with schizophrenia and their nonpsychotic siblings. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am writing this letter to inform you about the negative effects in Nigeria oil spills have on its people and the environment around them. Oil spills pollute the water, killing animals and plant life that inhabit the area around the spill. It is important that this problem is to be looked at and solved. Nigeria s Niger Delta is one of the most oil polluted places on the planet with more than 6,800 recorded oil spills. Millions of barrels of oil were spilled into the Niger Delta.. Some people inhabit the land around it. The water is there main resource to use. They use it for irrigation, drinking, and bathing. They use the water for their everyday needs. The water is too polluted for them to drink anymore and they can t use the water for irrigation because it is killing all of their crops. Multiple people have suffered from illnesses from drinking the oil polluted water. Cleanups don t clean the land very well even though they are supposed to clean deep into the ground. A percent of Nigerian mangrove ecosystems have been destroyed out by oil. The known effects of oil on mangroves are making the soil into acid, stop cellular respiration, and they do not let the roots get oxygen. The Mother Daughter Relationship and Self-Image Essay Living in a world characterized by its fixation with appearance, it is no wonder that children, especially girls, are learning to distrust and abuse their bodies. Susan Williams defines the structure of female gender with the idea of a gender regime or the concept that gender is fluid and specific to time and place (Williams 31). As one such environment, family life contains strong parental influences capable of drastically altering the gendered spaces and therefore gender perception of children. Specifically, the connection between mother and daughter body types and eating habits, examined both racially and cross culturally, show that women can inadvertently inherit body dissatisfaction and negative attitudes towards food a trend that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many times girls change their natural eating patterns simply to appropriate a measure of control from their mothers. Conversely, healthy maternal involvement and intimacy while maintaining and encouraging a separate identity decreases the weight concerns of children (May 10). Although a lack of power and desire for control may stimulate eating disturbances in young girls, it is the attitudes around her which more frequently determine a girl s own attitude towards food. Across race and culture, the manner in which maternal figures approach consumption and the beliefs they hold about their own figures are the most probable predictors of their daughters level of weight concern. With the ever extending hand of American mass media now reaching practically every corner of the globe, the pressure mothers feel to be thinner and their inevitable dissatisfaction with their bodies does not bode well for the attitude of their daughters. Whether intentionally or not, mothers inadvertently tell their daughters that the body is an enemy to be controlled rather than a source of pleasure to be enjoyed (Beattie 3). Although women may desire to feed and nurture as a part of their traditional role as a mother, the closer they associate with white middle class values the more important thinness becomes for both themselves and their children. Phonics are a system of associating letter symbols with speech sounds (Orton, n.d.). They have an important role in the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority: phonics and word knowledge [ACARA]. There are two main concepts related to phonics they are analytical phonics and synthetic phonics. Diana Rigg (2016) states that direct systematic instruction in phonics during the early years of schooling is an essential foundation for teaching children to read (para. 3). Phonics are used by children to learn to read and to write, they include letter identification, onset and rime, blends and the relationships between blends and phonemic awareness (Hill, 2012, p.259) (Rigg, 2014). There are many teaching approaches that may be implemented to teach phonics effectively. This essay will discuss, critique and analyse phonics their importance and how different teaching approaches may be implemented to teach phonics to students effectively. It will maintain that synthetic phonics have been proven to be more successful in teaching children than analytical phonics, although it is imperative to use both a synthetic and analytical approach to teaching children phonics. There are many aspects involved in phonics, phonics can be either analytical or synthetic. • 31. Analytics, Old Navy Llc Essay The ability to compete on analytics is made possible by certain qualities some companies possess which allows them to collect and use immense amounts of data in a way that differentiates the success and practices of those companies amongst any other businesses. Davenport and Harris (2007) define analytics as extensive use of data, statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory and predictive models, and fact based management to drive decisions and actions (p. 7). Therefore, to be able to compete on analytics, a firm must not only use the data to extrapolate and execute strategies and models in order to drive business, but also to use that data better and smarter than their competitors. This requires forward thinking and continual developments of current analyses and practices. With regard to Davenport and Harris s criteria and concepts on the ability to compete on analytics, Old Navy LLC s practices will be analyzed to find whether the company is able to compete, is a competitor, and how it competes, if at all. Ability to Compete In order to be an effective analytical competitor, Davenport and Harris (2007) assert that firms must meet certain prerequisites. • 32. Terry Bollea Case Terry Bollea, professionally known by his wrestler stage name Hulk Hogan, sued Gawker Media for posting a sex videotape without his consent. In the controversial videotape, Bollea was having sex with Heather Clem, who was back then the wife of his best friend and radio personality Bubba the Love Sponge. Initially, Bollea also sued his now former best friend and Clem because, according to him, he did not agree to participate in the sex tape. Bollea also said that he was totally unaware of the video s existence at the time it was filmed. However, after they were able to settle the conflict without a court s intervention, Bollea dropped the charges against them and decided that he was only going to proceed with his lawsuit against Gawker Media. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, Gawker Media s legal representatives expressed concern about freedom of the press in the United States if the court ruled in favor of Bollea. This lawsuit is not only important because of the emotional damage that the videotape has caused Bollea, but also because of Americans privacy and the precedent that the lawsuit s verdict established for future similar cases. Even though Bollea is a public figure, and the general understanding is that public figures have less right to privacy, his career is not a free pass for media organizations to release a video of him having sex. Gawker Media s lawyers did everything to protect the media company under the First Amendment, and under the justification that the sex tape was newsworthy because of Bollea s public career. But this time, privacy rights outweighed newsworthiness and Gawker Media had to pay for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Does The Fruit Fly Experiment Introduction The purpose of this conducting this lab is to see how the rocket can be changed physically to make it fly higher up after being launched. Not only is the rocket going to fly higher but also have to test to see if there is a way to thoroughly protect an egg after landing to keep it from cracking/breaking. Research on the average height a rocket flies based on the PSI used showed that the higher the PSI the higher it tends to fly. Experimental Design The experimental question is Will the amount of air pressure change the height the rocket flies?. The independent variable is the amount of pressure in the rocket. The dependent variable is how high the rocket flies. The control is a bottle with just air no water launched at 60psi. Hypothesis If the air pressure is raised higher than the other experimental group s air pressure then the rocket will fly higher because of the increased force pushing off the water to make it fly higher. Test Materials 2 cans of Insulated Foam Sealant 3 soda bottles 2 15 cm pieces of cardboard Ducktape Square plastic table ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I predicted that the higher PSI would force the rocket to go higher. I feel as though to the results differed from the hypothesis because the air pressure pump was broken when group 1 was launching the rocket. Second, we could not keep all the constants the same since we had different people building each rocket as well as each parachute. Lastly, we can t be sure the data is accurate because we only have two group s data so we can t check the data and see if there is a pattern. Ways to improve these errors could be to have one group work on the rockets. Another group taking all the data so one group doesn t forget to put in the data. The last group to launch the rocket. We would also need to be sure that all of the parachutes are the same as the math groups we worked with did not take down what we needed to be built to match and instead did whatever they wanted to ... • 35. The San Bernardino Shooting The events of the San Bernardino shooting were a tragedy. 14 people were killed, and another 22 were injured when a married terrorist couple staged an attack on a Christmas party. This was an unmitigated catastrophe, but it spawned one of the most important security debates in recent memory. The FBI wanted to unlock one of the suspects phones, but were unable to do so because of security measures on the phone. The FBI wanted to brute force the password lock on the iPhone, but device would wipe itself after 10 failed attempts to unlock the iPhone. Thus, the FBI asked Apple to create an intentionally insecure iOS update, specifically for this iPhone, in order to bypass the security restrictions. Apple disagreed with the FBI, and tried to avoid helping the FBI in such a way, arguing it would undermine the purpose of security itself. Overall, Apple has the best argument, both legally and as a matter of public policy. Primarily, the FBI wants to protect American citizens from malicious threats, in this case terrorism. Unlocking the iPhone in question could give extremely important information, not only to the case itself, but to potential terrorist agents worldwide. The San Bernardino killers may have contacted others for assistance, and the FBI will not be able to bring them to justice without aid from Apple. The FBI cannot protect the American citizens, nor can it investigate crimes aided by the use of Apple s electronic devices (in this case, an iPhone 5c) without Apple s ... • 36. Research Paper On Sparta Sparta was known in Greek as Sparti. The city lied at the southern end of the central Laconia plain, on the right bank of the Eurotas River. Its population was about 100,000 and it was located in the Laconia region. It had a fairly temperate but very dry climate. Sparta s also depended on agriculture for their sustenance. They had a mandatory military service. Their system of leadership was Oligarchic and their descendants were mostly the descendants of the Dorian invaders. Athens, on the other hand, was the largest capital city of Greece. Its citizens were about 140,000. The region in which Athens was situated was Attica. The city of Athens had a Mediterranean climate. Athenians depended on trade and agriculture for survival. They did not have a military based system. They practiced Democracy and their descendants were mostly from Ionian descent. (Diffen, n.d). • 37. Inbreeding Depression By Environment Interactions Essay Inbreeding Depression Inbreeding depression is a widely studied topic in the fields of not only genetics, but as well as the fields of biology, ecology, etc. Directly speaking, inbreeding depression results in the loss or reduced expression of a trait due to the mating between two closely related organisms (Hartl 547). As of today, there are a plethora of studies and evidence that explain how and why inbreeding occurs within populations even though it is deleterious for the populations. However, several of these experiments are done in an unnatural environment or researchers have manipulated data in a way to deem the results not truly representative (JM Pemberton et al.,2016). It is vital to discover and understand the inbreeding depression of organisms in natural conditions so that this area of study is accurately represented by reasonable data and the knowledge of this topic can be expanded accurately. The article, Inbreeding Depression by Environment Interactions in a Free living Mammal Population published in Heredity in November 2016, discusses research done on a population of sheep in St. Kilda in attempt to discover inbreeding depression by environment interaction with unmanipulated and true data. The sheep live on an isolated island, so it is assumed that inbreeding is high in the population and genetic variation is low as well. In this article, the researchers analyzed nine traits in the sheep for inbreeding depression by environment interaction. These traits are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even before her entrance, her clothing style was already being scrutinized (Adler 74). Luckily, she never cared about what others thought about her appearance. Mrs. Kennedy never intended to influence fashion as much as she did (Adler 92). After all, her tastes were far beyond the bounds of the continent. Jacqueline Kennedy s style was described to be French inspired (Flaherty 38). On inauguration day, she wore a beige wool coat with a sable collar and matching sable muff designed by American designer Oleg Cassini (Adler 84). I remember thinking he just looked as if he had a slight headache. And then he put his hand to his forehead and fell into my lap (Onassis qtd. Adler 129). Due to the internet and E commerce, data security is even more important due to the possibility of hackers, viruses, and malware. Current Specifications By examining data security in regards to Riordan, it is apparent that very little exists. Riordan`s data security contains an assortment of random and disorganized systems that contain sensitive data, however none of these systems are linked, nor are any of them current with respect to memory, speed, and processing power. Additionally, employee information such as payroll records, completed training, and incidents involving complaints and harassment, are cataloged using Microsoft Excel, which has no real security measures other than a password protection option. Recommendations Due to the lack in data security elements, the following recommendations are suggested: strategy and risk assessment. Overall data security begins with the identification of risks and the strategy on the solution to those risks. This can be accomplished through a Strength Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis. Strengths and weaknesses are derived from internal factors, such as employees, while opportunities and threats are derived from external factors, such as hackers (Value Based Management, 2011).
