How I Started Learning Piano
I started learning piano when I was six years old. Even though I had to practice several hours a day
instead of playing outside, I enjoyed mastering a new piece and performing in front of an audience.
Unfortunately, my hands could not reach a full octave of keys. This made it impossible to play some
of the more complex pieces and I eventually stopped playing once I moved to the US. During my
freshman year of high school, a friend convinced me to try playing again on the piano located in an
isolated hallway of our school. Despite not touching a piano in years, once I placed my hands on the
keys, my muscle memory was sufficient to play the first half of Fur Elise . When she then gave me a
piece of music, I was surprised to see that I had not forgotten how to sight read, which was my least
favorite part of piano lessons when I was younger. Hesitantly, I was able to follow the sheet music and
start playing one hand at the time. As I practiced over the next few days, I could once again play most
of the pieces I once mastered. Just for fun, I even borrowed some of the pieces my friend was
practicing. My high school has a yearly competition between the grades call SING! Each grade would
create the sets and costumes to perform a one hour play, including acting, singing, and dancing. My
friend was to play the piano as part of the orchestra, and the pieces I have been learning were part of
the show. When she broke her wrist a mere half hour before the show, she recommended that I

More people will die from obesity than starvation. Many people are gaining excess weight that
ultimately results into Obesity. This is a big controversy because obesity has become one of the most
known reasons for cancer and many other illnesses. It s even affecting children. According to the
American Heart Association, the percentage for child obesity raised to about 18.4% ranging from
children as young as 2 and older. After watching the documentary, Fed Up, by Katie Couric, it is
revealed that the reason percentages for Obesity is rising is due to the fact that many become addicted
to sugar, the amount of calorie intake, and etc. Sugar addiction sources from industries that finds

High Tier Punishment
My teachers in lower grades used punishments more than rewards to influence my behaviors. Starting
from kindergarten the punishment system was introduced to me. Whenever I misbehaved, I had to
move the clothespin with my name on it, up the next paper plate which symbolized a higher tier of
punishment. The three levels were green, yellow, and red. The first tier, green, symbolized freedom to
play during recess, the second tier, yellow, symbolized a penalty of time that had to be sat on a bench,
and the final tier, red, symbolized a trip to the principal s office. The fear of having to go see the
principal or having to sit on the bench for a period of time was my motivation to not misbehave. This
system of punishments continued with increasing

Forrest Gump Film Analysis
Forrest Gump is a movie that was released in the summer of 1994 and is based on a novel by the same
name that was written by Winston Groom almost a decade earlier in 1986. The movie was directed by
Robert Zemeckis and produced by Paramount Pictures. The film features Tom Hanks as the main
character Forrest Gump who is a slow witted character but also has a heart of gold and is extremely
courageous. The supporting cast consists of Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan), Robin Wright (Forrest s mother) ,
Sally Field(Jenny) , Mykelti Williamson (Bubba), among others. In this critique I will be summarizing
the plot and analyzing what I liked and disliked about the movie and whether it stands the test of time.
The movie begins with Forrest Gump waiting at a bus stop and starting a friendly conversation with a
stranger sitting next to him. He begins to tell his life story and drops one of the most famous lines in
film history, My Momma always said, life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re
going to get. . This line would be the whole focus of the movie as you will see what Forrest Gump has
experienced and accomplished in his life up to that point, as well as the many important figures he had
crossed paths with. Early on in life Forrest was often bullied at school for his curved spine and his low
intelligence. On his first day of school in 1950s Greenbow, Alabama, Forrest meets a girl named Jenny
Curran who becomes Forrest s only friend and later he would develop a crush for

Difference Between Service Quality And Customer Satisfaction
Introduction:
Service quality represents a fundamental aspect of delivery, which strongly influences consumer
satisfaction and, as a result, loyalty. In today s global market a customer s service expectation has to
be met and exceeded eventually in order to retain customers as well as achieve success. Perceived
quality of a product or a service is becoming one of the major competitive factors in the business
world and has led to the innovation of the Quality Era (Peeler, 1996). In simple words, the comparison
of customer expectations with service performance is service quality. On the other hand, customer
satisfaction is defined as a pleasurable fulfilment response toward a good, service, benefit, or reward
(Oliver, 1997). Both of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sureshchandra, Rajendran and Anantharaman (2002) identified five critical aspects of service quality
from the customers point of view namely core service/service product, human element of service
delivery, systematisation of service delivery, tangibles of service and lastly social responsibility in
order to conceptualise service quality. Table 1 will further provide an explanation to the five critical
aspects of service quality as outlined by Sureshchandra et al (2002).
Table 1:
SI.no. Critical Factors Explanation of the critical factors
1. Core service or Service product Basically means the content of a service.
2. Human element of service delivery Refers to all aspects that fall under the domain of human
element in the service delivery namely reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, moments of
truth, critical incident and recovery.
3. Systematisation of service delivery: non human element The procedures, processes, systems
technology that would make a service a flawless one.
4. Tangibles of service servicescapes The manmade physical environment (servicescapes) or the
tangible facets of the service facility (equipment, machinery, signage, employee appearance etc.)
5. Social Responsibility Every organisation has an obligation to act to benefit the society at large in an
ethical framework. This helps in maintaining and developing the organisations image and
consequently influences the customers overall evaluation

Characterization In The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton
Clever Title Here In the book, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, we learn about the life of many
characters and their experiences, troubles, and different lifestyles. Every character has their own story
to tell and unique traits. Which is why I chose the topic of characterization. All the characters show
their real colors and change throughout the story. We learnt the real background on their lives and not
just the stereotype of the two groups. PonyBoy Curtis, is part of the Greasers but he s not your typical
greaser, he s not like the rest. Ponyboy has light brown hair, with greenish gray eyes and long hair that

Essay about A Bronx Tale
A Bronx Tale It s the sixties. Racism is running hot through the streets of New York. One
neighborhood in particular, where one group of boys makes the choice that will change their lives and
everyone s around them forever. These boys are young, full of talent and smart. These boys choose to
take all of what they had and throw it away. What happens to these boys next is something that you
would not want to wish on anybody. Here these young talented boys cram into a car and ride to the
African American neighborhood. The boys toss burning bottle of alcohol through a glass window into

Calogero was angry but knew something was going to happen if he had stayed in that car. Sonny had

Every day after that night Calogero used his talent and did great things for being a boy from the

The Breakdown Of The Titanic Disaster
Titanic Imagine going on what is supposed to be a magnificent vacation, but turns out to be a
horrendous disaster. The titanic was the biggest man made ship and was supposed to be an unsinkable
ship. Work began in 1909 in the massive Harland and Wolff yard. Titanic continued nonstop until the
spring of 1911. There was peace and the world had an even tenor to its way. Nothing was revealed the
morning the trend of which was not known the night before. It seems to me the disaster about to occur
was the event that not only made the world rub it s eyes and awake but woke it with a start keeping it
moving at a rapidly accelerating pace ever since with less and less peace, satisfaction, and happiness.
To my mind the world of today awoke April 15, 1912. Jack B. Thayer a titanic survivor. There were
many flaws in the design of the titanic. The titanic was doomed from the start because of the design.

Abstract
This research paper will examine the concepts of psychopathology, or abnormal psychology and how
it deals with a various set of symptoms or behaviors that manifested by functional impairments in a
person s life. Psychological disorders (e.g. Major Depressive Disorder) and the causes of abnormal
behaviour have been understood by a various different theories and have been documented throughout

In just one theory, Burton believed that melancholy could be prevented with a sufficient sleep, music,
healthy diet, and consequential work , as well as having a balanced social life with friends and family.
Moreover, in the period of 18th century, the theory of melancholia, which is linked to a Major
Depressive Disorder, had become progressively more challenged by electrical and mechanical
explanations; whereby, if a person exhibited a gloomy and dark state of mind it was also proved that
the person gave way to a depleted state of energy loss (Girdlera Klatzkinb, 2007). The term depression
was derived from a Latin verb deprimere, to press down. Dated as far back to the 14th century, the
term to depress meant to bring down in spirits or to conquer (AllDisease.org, 2011). Even though
melancholia continued to be the leading diagnostic expression, depression increased its frequency (its
usage of name) in the medical field and was a synonym by the end of its century. The DSM I (1952)
(as cited in Girdlera Klatzkinb, 2007) refers to depressive reaction and the DSM II (1968) (as cited in
Girdlera Klatzkinb, 2007) depressive neurosis, as words that define an extreme reaction to an
identifiable conflict or an internal circumstance (DSM, 2000).
Causes of the Depression It appears that psychological, social, and biological factors will all play a
role into the various degrees that cause depression. Many theorists believe that the depression

The Rising Cost Of Higher Education
The rising cost of higher education is a topic of large concern today. As tuition prices continue to grow
at a quicker pace than housing prices, consumer prices and average hourly wages, it is becoming
harder and harder for the average American family to afford going to college. What factors have been
driving this large rise in tuition prices? This thesis aims to set up a supply and demand framework to
analyze the various forces that may be driving the price of higher education to rise above the
Consumer Price Index over time. After defining long run supply and demand for the higher education
market, this thesis addresses economy wide factors and summarizes the findings of Robert Archibald
and David Feldman in Why Does College Cost So Much?. Next, this thesis examines higher education
specific factors and specifically tests the hypothesis: The long run supply curve for higher educations
is theoretically vertical. The inability for supply to meet the increasing demand for higher education
results in a supply and demand imbalance that drives up the price of higher education. After looking at
both economy wide and higher education specific factors, it is apparent that slow productivity growth
and large wage increases for professors (cost disease) and an unresponsive total enrollment (supply) in
the face of rising demand are largely driving the increase in the price of higher education. In order to
curb this rising prices, his thesis will offer a few policy implications and

Racism In Trethewey s Native Guard
In Trethewey s Native Guard, graves symbolize of the futility of mankind s efforts to conceal its evils,
and of failure to combat the racist system put in place by white America. For years, Trethewey s
mother fought to protect her daughter from the hatred and prejudice in America. Her protest against
the hatred of America was snuffed out by abusive partners and the nascent racism of America. In the
poem Graveyard Blues, she describes the atmosphere of the graveyard as blues y and dreary. She
wander[s] now among names of the dead: My mother s name, stone pillow for my head, her mother s
name now only a marker of her lifetime of suffering. Not only a problem in Trethewey s time, racism
and inherent discrimination was an issue for even the African American heroes of the Civil War, the
Native Guard receive no recognition from the historians of the fort or the Daughters of the
Confederacy. In the poem Elegy for the Native Guards, Trethewey states that there are no names
carved for the Native Guards 2nd Regiment, Union men, black phalanx. What is monument to their
legacy? They receive no honorable grave. They receive the most barbaric of burial rites, doomed to
have fish dart among their bones. The bodies of the native guard are cast out of sight into the ocean,
neglected in an attempt to forget the evils committed against them. Their forgotten and neglected
grave symbolizes the futility of fighting against the racism of America, as well as the futility in

Wishes In The Raven
A wish is a hope or desire for something. Fictionally, wishes can be used as plot devices. In folklore,
opportunities for making a wish or for wishes to come true or be granted are themes that are
sometimes used.
In literature
In fiction a wish is a supernatural demand placed on the recipient s unlimited request. When it is the
center of a tale, the wish is usually a template for a morality tale, be careful what you wish for ; it can
also be a small part of a tale, in which case it is often used as a plot device. One can wish on many
things for example: wishing wells, dandelions when one blows the seeds or light them on fire, stars
and much more. When one wishes in a well he or she throws money in, in the hope his or her wish

Some wishes appear to be granted by nothing in particular. Snow White s mother s wish for a beautiful
child might have been a coincidence, but the father s wish in The Seven Ravens transforms his seven
sons into ravens, just as the mother s wish in The Raven transforms her daughter. This is common in a
tale involving a person, male or female, wishing for a child, even one that is a hedgehog, or a sprig of
myrtle, or no bigger than a hazel nut.
The number of wishes granted varies. Aladdin had an unlimited number in the original story, but was
restricted to three wishes in the 1992 Disney film. As in the Charles Perrault tale The Ridiculous
Wishes, three is the most common, but others may be granted to fit the constraints of the tale. Several
authors have spun variations of the wish for more wishes theme, though some disallow this as
cheating. In many stories the wording of the wish is extremely important. For example, characters
often say, I wish I was wealthy. This wording could be taken literally, the wish granted so that at one
time the wisher was wealthy but is not any more. Saying, I wish to be wealthy , then because to

Causes And Effects Of Bullying

Causes and Effects of Bullying Bullying is a big issue that spreads through the world. It can happen to
anyone of all ages, and in numerous ways. Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among people
that involves a real or perceived power imbalance that either repeats or has the potential to repeat,
overtime (Bullying Definition). There are so many factors that tie into bullying such as, why the bully
is actually bullying, why the bully chose that victim, or even the effects that occur while the bullying
is taking place. Low self esteem is a common reason why someone would want to bully a person. Low
self esteem is the lack of pride a person feels in themselves. Often times a bully feels like they are less
than others and the only way for them to feel better about themselves is to try to bring others down. A
lot of bullies aren t trying to hurt someone physically, they use words and certain remarks to torture a
person, making that person feel just as less as them just to uplift their own self esteem. Although low
self esteem is a cause narcissism is also a factor to bullying. Not only can a bully feel less of
themselves but they can also feel that they are higher or better than others. Cockiness is a trait seen in
many bullies. This may show in people such as jocks at a high school, or a fellow co worker that may
have a higher position or make a higher salary.
There are a lot of cases where a bully is getting bullied

Money for Money s Sake in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott...
I think one of the most pervasive evils in this world is greed and acquiring money for money s sake.
Once you have six houses and a plane, it s just about a number. It s never been anything I understood.
This is a quote by Kevin Bacon, a very awesome and apparently worldly actor, and it perfectly
captures the essence of the theme that I have come to for The Great Gatsby. The theme I see most
strongly reflected in the book is this: Although greed and lust are human nature, they are often used as
a substitute for happiness, but almost always lead to decay. I will provide examples of this theme by
looking into events and the behavior of characters throughout the plot of the book.
One main event in the book that I believe strongly represents the theme is when Gatsby is shot while
floating in the pool that he had one of the people working for him wait to drain even though it was the
beginning of the fall season (p.161). I see this as a strong reflection of the theme starting with the
symbolism of the pool (which is apart of a long chain of symbols).
I m going to drain the pool to day, Mr. Gatsby. Leaves ll start falling pretty soon, and then there s
always trouble with the pipes.
Don t do it to day, Gatsby answered. He turned to me apologetically. You know, old sport, I ve never
used that pool all summer? (p.161)
I see the pool as representative of being full of Gatsby s thoughts and love for Daisy and that he is not
ready to drain it yet, and wants to float on what s

Elizabeth Semper Eadem Prologue Known as The Golden Age in English history, the 45 year rule of
Queen Elizabeth I turned the declining country of England, into one of the most powerful and
prosperous countries in the world. Elizabeth Tutor I was born unwanted to King Henry VIII and Anne
Boleyn on September 7 1533. Taught by famous scholars in her youth, she excelled at her studies.
From an early age, she was seen to be enormously gifted. She had an especial flair for languages. By
adulthood, she was capable of speaking 5 different languages. In the January of 1547, King Henry

In the half century during which she ruled, her kingdom became known for its pageantry and glamour.
When Elizabeth Tudor had succeeded the throne, religious strife, a huge government debt, and failures
in war, had caused England to be considered a poor credit risk on the Continent. Though popular and
much admired, Elizabeth did not inherit a stable and prosperous country, thus the quest for stability
and prosperity became the guiding force of her reign. She constantly avoided foreign entanglements
and religious extremism. The motto Elizabeth Semper Eadem Latin, meaning Always the same was
highly appropriate. Queen Elizabeth I left behind an extraordinary image of a dazzling era of
excitement and achievement, nearly superhuman heroes and daring deeds, with the Queen, larger than
life, radiating inspiration at the center of it all. Elizabeth s character was a mystery to most people at
the time she inherited the throne. She had learned to keep her own council, control her emotions, and
always behaved cautiously, thus being able to disprove all rumors about her. Always dignified and
stately, she could be vain, willful, dictatorial, temperamental, and imperious. She had courage, both in
her decisions, and in the face of danger. Possessing an innate of humanity, she was not normally cruel,
unlike most rulers of her day. Most regarded her to be unusually tolerant in that age of religious
conflict. She saw herself as one who was always honest and honorable, who

This is usually done during the induction/training program of joining the army. During this period the
instructors beast the initiates and build them up as a team so they can co operate efficiently in the line
of duty. Also with them being built up as a team and working everyday side by side there is less
chance of them fighting amongst each other so order will be maintained. Social norms The
psychologists Deutsch and Gerard said when it comes to social norms there are two theories. The first
theory is that if you have a lack of information about something we usually do what the majority of
the class/group are doing for example if you are waiting to cross the road and you don t see the traffic
signals changing because someone is in your way but you start to cross because everyone else is
crossing even though you don t know it is safe to cross. The second theory is that we conform to a
group of people so we feel accepted by acting how they act or the way they dress. For example if I left
the uniformed public service course and joined a art course in the college that they were all wearing a
particular type of clothing eventually I would conform to the way they dress so I feel a part of the
group the same in the public service you will conform to them so you fell accepted in the team.

Organizational Change And The Implementation Of The Change...
Introduction:
Organisational change and the implementation of the change is a relevant issue when analysing the
Nora case. Organisation change is the ability of an organisation to change over time and is reliant on
the ability of the organisation to change the individual behaviour of individual employees (Robertson,
Roberts and Porras, 1993). Organisational change is a common occurrence in modern organisations
and the change can come from new employees to new strategies. It is relevant in the case where
organisational change is occurring however a lack of communication about the change has cause
issues among the organisation and its clients. The iceberg model created by George Clampitt (2005)
will be used in the analysis of the case and therefore recommendations can be made based on the
conclusions.
Background:
The unexpected consequence of implementing change is a relevant issue when analysing the Nora
case. Nora is a social worker at Bridges Care and Village, Clevedon, South Auckland. Charity Trust
National controls the operations and Bridges Care and Village, is one of the care centres they provide
for the elderly. The organisation was originally structured using a communal based model; drug,
alcohol, social, and child services. Charity Trust National now seek to change the organisations
structure and split services into three categories; age, community and residential. Georgina, one of the
staff tells Nora that there will be change to the whole organisation, resulting

Bacterial Lawns
1. Did your bacterial lawns contain only one species of bacteria on each plate, based on lawn
appearance? If not, why do you think that is?
I do believe that my bacterial lawns contained only one species of bacteria on each plate, they are
consistent in color and appearance from the bacteria colonies from Experiment 1. There is only one
difference and it involves plate 1, the toilet handle. I was unsure if it was because of the bacteria or in
reaction to the antibiotics but around the Kanamycin ZOI there is a brighter yellow ring around it. I
thought it was strange that only around there was such a reaction but as I said I was not sure if it was a
reaction to the Kanamycin.

This means that the bacteria for this lawn have cells that are surrounded by a cell wall which includes
a thin layer of peptidoglycan and surrounding that is an outer lipid membrane that does not contain the
Gram strain. Yet at the same time while Kanamycin was the most effective the Ampicillin and
Penicillin had reactions as well. The Ampicillin would kill both Gram positive and Gram negative so
this could indicate that there are Gram negative bacteria in the lawn, but the fact that the Penicillin
worked as well was what was interesting. This means that this bacterial lawn contains both gram
positive and gram negative bacteria. Gram positive are bacteria with cell walls that contain a thick
layer of peptiodoglycan that retains the Gram strain. For plate 2, trashcan lid, only the Kanamcyin
worked which indicates that the only bacteria in this lawn are Gram negative, but if that is true why
didn t the Ampicillin work at all? Ampicillin works to kill both positive and negative grams, but there
was no reaction this time. Could it be that it needs more

Importance Of Semiotics To The Cultural Aspects Of Philosophy
PHILOSOPHIES OF QUANTUM PHYSICS AND OF EDUCOLOGY
Introduction
In the Introduction, the philosophy of quantum physics and the philosophy of educology will be
characterized in respect to five established cultural aspects of philosophy
, i.e. in respect to the aspects:
(1) of ontology as philosophy of what exists,
(2) of metaphysics as philosophy of what exists and is real,
(3) of epistemology as philosophy of what knowledge is,
(4) of logic as philosophy of inquiry entailing an epistemology,
(5) of axiology philosophy of what value, and, in respect;
to semiotics as the science of the semiosical process, whereas the semiosical process is a naturally and
culturally determined socially oriented process, involving symbols as to their meanings (symbol
meaning) and signs as to their significance (sign significance).
The Importance of Semiotics to the Cultural Aspects of Philosophy
From the perspective of the author of this paper, semiotics is the science of the semiosical process,
whereas the semiosical process entails what is alluded to when John Dewey states that:
I shall. . . connect sign and significance [sign significance], symbol and meaning [symbol meaning],
respectively, with each other, in order to have terms to designate two different kinds of representative
capacity. Linguistically, the choice of terms is more or less arbitrary, although sign and significance
have a common verbal root. This consideration is of no importance, however, compared with the

Descriptive Essay About Gymnastics
A big building that you could see from the highway in my hometown, filled with the smell of chalk
and sweat. To most people it was just a building that they would drive by on their way to school or
work, but to me it was called class act and it was where my love for gymnastics started. This building
was where I learned to do my first cartwheel and it was also the place where I spent most of my days
and weeks when I was younger. I loved this place, and even though I ended up stopping gymnastics to
pursue other sports this was my first sport and it played a part in shaping me into the person that I am
today. Even from a young age I could see that gymnastics was going to be a sport that consumed a lot
of my life.
I was pretty young when I began gymnastics, the age of three to be exact and I ended when I was
about nine. Even though I didn t participate in gymnastics for that long and advance to much in my
own skill level, I watched people ahead of me and on the olympic stage. I was able to see how
gymnastics is an art form, and how much talent it takes to advance. Gymnastics requires a lot of talent
and determination because it takes time, patience, and perfection to learn new skills. A skill is a new
flip on the mats or a trick on the bars or beam. I think this is what is amazing about the sport of
gymnastics, it is not something that can be perfected overnight but it must be practiced and practiced
to achieve perfection.
Each skill that is learned helps the gymnast in the

Greek Architecture Research Paper
Greek architecture focused on other forms of civic architecture such as theaters, council halls, public

porticoes, and city planning. Greek architecture is distinguished by its structures and decorations.
Their typical forms was not tombs nor did they have much interest in elaborate houses and palaces. In
the case of the temples, the building appears to have been embedded as a sculptural entity within the
landscape, most often the temples were placed on high grounds in order for its proportions and light
effects to be viewed from all angles. In addition, their architecture reflected its makers in its human

Use Of Egyptian Myth In Eudora Welty s A Worn Path
Worn Path
Knowing secret information can be a very enlightening thing. Knowing information that someone else
does not helps make the reader feel more powerful. Such is the case when the reader knows of the
mythical Phoenix and then reads A Worn Path. Eudora Welty s A Worn Path, the story of an elderly
grandmother s journey to the doctor s office for medication for her grandson, explores allusions to
mythology, including the character Phoenix and her journey.
In an Egyptian tale the Phoenix, a large bird, retains immortality by restoring itself every five hundred
years by setting fire to its nest and immolating itself by fanning fire with its wings. From the ashes a
new Phoenix arises. Then it collects the ashes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Welty describes Old Phoenix it is very easy to see the similarities with the bird of Egyptian
myth. Then after carefully describing Phoenix s physical appearance, Welty incorporates the use of
other senses as well. The sound of a bird that Welty uses is just one example of how subtle Welty can
be when mixing the Egyptian bird into the story. These examples prove that Phoenix is not just an
ordinary character but instead, Old Phoenix is a character with a higher meaning.
Through Phoenix s journey, mythology is included again. Phoenix s journey begins in December, a
bright frozen day in the early morning (Welty 1). She is equated with the morning, the rising sun, for
she is the immortal bird which rises from its own ashes as the sun rises, and dies only to be reborn
(Ardolino 2). Eudora does not stop with the opening paragraph to incorporate the old legend. After
Phoenix s arduous journey into town, she arrives at the charity ward where she is to obtain the
medicine for her grandson, and there she saw nailed up on the wall the document that had been
stamped with the gold seal and framed in the gold frame, which matched the dream that was hung up
in her head. In this office Phoenix stands, a fixed and ceremonial stiffness over her body (Jones 5).
Obviously like the embodiment of the original Egyptian sun god that flew home every five hundred
years, this Mississippi

Analysis Of English Tense And Aspect
Analyzing English tense and aspect is presented with the idea that it has temporal relations within a
sentence. The reference points are used by the terminal and initial points of real time events. There is
also two hypothetical times: (Dalrymple pg. 68): the perfect time (that is pertaining to the perfect
aspect) and the progressive (which is during time). When continuing analysis of tense and aspect, it
requires to identify if the relationships will or will not substantiate among time and events. For
instance if I say Ken ate a frozen dinner, it can be established that this sentence is past tense, and it
includes that the time of this main event which is eating a frozen dinner precedes the time of statement
within this sentence. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples: (note: S stands for speech time. R for reference time. E for event time.) These examples
will provide a visual as to what was explained above.
Present Tense: E, R, S I am in California.
Past Tense: E, R......S I was in California when I saw her.
Past Perfect: E....R....S I had been in California when I saw her.
Future Perfect: S....E....R I will have been to California when is see you next.
It can be seen from these classifications of tenses above that the relative tenses and the reference time
are split apart(this is what the use of the periods are for to demonstrate the time splits). Another thing
to analyze is that only in the future perfect tense does speech time occurs first in the sentence.
In addressing the past perfect tense, the lecture states that the role of the past perfect is backshifting in
the sequence of tense which is why I represented the time split from event time, reference time and
speech time apart us such.
Other examples offered: He said that he preferred the darker cigars. (past tense=present tense) He said
that he had selected the darker cigar. ( past perfect= present tense)
These examples display the ideal of backshifting. Both instances of these sentences are in the past in
time, however they can be interpreted as an event currently happening now.
The lecture from the University of Colorado also offers this analogy to better understand aspect versus
tense:

Essay on Chipotle Balanced Scorecard
Chipotle The Chipotle Mexican Grille opened its first store in 1993 beginning a new category in the
restaurant industry known as fast casual (About Us, 2014). This new category featured the highest
quality raw ingredients, classic cooking methods, and distinctive interior design features that are more
frequently found in the world of fine dining. However, aside from the normally long wait in lines, an
order could be taken and served in only a couple minutes. Currently Chipotle operates more than
1,500 restaurants internationally. The following pages will present a balanced approach to the
effectiveness of Chipotle s strategy analyzing financial performance, customer satisfaction,

Operations To date all restaurants are company owned and not franchised. Restaurants cover forty
three states in the U.S., Canada, England, and France. The only variation to the original model has
been an increased environmental awareness and a Test Restaurant in Washington D.C. that serves
Asian Style fast casual food. Strategy Reading through the annual reports Chipotle s strategy is
comprised of four components: 1. To increase consumer awareness with regards to the importance and
benefits of consuming naturally raised produce. 2. To vigorously seek out expansion into the European
markets. 3. To continue to grow and foster new relationships with food suppliers. 4. To continue
incurring only minimal amounts of expenses relating to marketing and other advertising expenses.
Financial Analysis Fast food is known for low quality and low prices. Alternatively, the dine in
experience offers high quality with a higher price. Some restaurants seek a low cost dine in experience
but this is done with a deteriorated food quality. Therefore, it would make sense that Chipotle s
philosophy of high quality has a hard time maintaining a low price. Chipotle makes this work by
charging slightly higher prices than fast food. Customers are willing to pay this because of the
differentiations Chipotle offers but how does this translate overall financially? One key aspect for
Chipotle is their ability to cover debt. They maintain very liquid assets to cover the costs of

Firsty,we can analyze the Chinese language and what has been written about the the notion of face.
When we analyze what has been written in Chinese,we can see many thing about the notion of the
face.David Yau fai Ho(1976)in his journal On the Concept of Face explains and demonstrate the many
aspects of the notion of face. Face is the(Chinese) social ideology which determine the status of
people in the society.Ho(1976)continues to explain the notion of face in Chinise.Face isn t a
stable/standard behavior but it is a mixture of judgements concerning the extent.Face isn t seen as an
analytic exercise but it can be used in literature, everyday speech and figurative meaning. Face is both
the mixture of nuances of social interactions and values that is given in the society. Face isn t stable
thing. Ho(1976)explains that the notion of face is in Chinese origin and this notion is the literal
translation of Chinese lien and mien tzu.Hu(1944)makes an important distinction between these two
concepts of face. Mien tzu reflects the prestige of person in the society but the lien reflects the
confidence of people in the society. In spite of these distinction, they can be used together in Chinese
context. Loss of face comes out when a person fails to meet some requirements in society. For Chinese
maintenance of face is similar to being moral member of society. Gaining

Stigma and cultural norms, along with poor diagnosis or medical infrastructure, could be undermining
prevalence rates, masking the amount of children that have autism in developing countries. (Maguire,
2013)
According to the DSM 5 Autism is define as neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired
social interaction, verbal and non verbal communication, and restricted and repetitive behavior.
Although we have yet to talk about autism in class I did write about it in my previous assignment.
Autism effects the processing of the brain, which tends to delay development and language. Around
cultures autism is widely known.
In the U.S. Children with ASD can grow and can learn, however it s at a different development rate
than other healthy children. Many professionals studying the field of autism can agree that developing
an appropriate community based education and treatment program for an individual with ASD at an
early age is a very important step to ensuring that the child will reach his or her potential. Not saying
that older children or adults cannot learn or develop, it just may take longer or children may do it
quicker.
Autism is considered a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three
years of a child s life. The result of this neurological disorder affects the functioning of the brain by
slowing the development of language and cognitive processing autism and its associated behaviors
have been estimated to occur

General Douglas Macarthur Accomplishments
General Douglas Macarthur is most commonly known for what he did in combat, but it is also
amazing how successful he was during the US Occupation of Japan after World War II. In 1945,
Douglas Macarthur was nominated head of the Supreme Command of Allied Powers (SCAP), which
placed him in charge of the whole Occupation process. This was a very difficult job, which only
talented men like Macarthur could have handled. He was forced to make very hard decisions, which
are still relevant today. The American Occupation of Japan was undoubtedly the most successful
occupation, and possibly the only successful occupation of a defeated nation ever attempted.
Macarthur s plan could be divided into three parts. First, it was to intentionally punish and ... Show

The goal that America had was for Japan to become a Democratic nation. This goal was difficult to
accomplish because there were concerns of communism rising in Japan. The Americans believed
communism was a major threat and wanted no part of it in the US or Japan. It was important to steer
the Japanese people away from communism and towards Democracy. Macarthur used news systems in
Japan to spread democratic ideas and to allow the Japanese people to better understand democracy.
The lives of the Japanese people were changed by a few different things. For children, the education
system was modified, democratic ideas were encouraged. Laws regulating families were also changed
according to the new way of life. Macarthur arranged occupation policies to address the weakened
economy, and tax reforms were created and sent out to the people. There were also attempts to control
inflation. Besides the introduction of the Constitution, there was another major political introduction.
The supreme political institution had been changed to be the Parliament of Japan, the Diet, which was
to be made up of freely elected representatives of the people. Japan was not use to having a
parliament, but it was a good decision by Macarthur and has made Japan very successful. Macarthur
oversaw the most fundamental transformation of Japanese society in the country s history. In many

Transfer Pricing--Market-Based vs. Cost-Based
Introduction
Transfer pricing is one of the key factors of a management control system, which helps a company to
achieve its goals, including profit maximization and tax minimization.
There are several methods of setting transfer prices among profit centers within the same organization.
Each profit center tries to set transfer prices which maximize their own profit. The buying and selling
profit centers profits are largely affected by transfer prices. For example, when a high transfer price is
charged, the selling division s profits increase, while the buying division s costs increase. So, transfer
pricing should be established on a reasonable and objective basis, which should maximize the
companywide profit, rather than being based on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company should consider whether the transfer pricing method has simplicity and transparency,
which provide objective performance measurements for division managers. With regard to simplicity
and transparency, it is best for the company to set market based transfer pricing because this is more
objective than cost based transfer pricing. In particular, when companies use cost based transfer
pricing, it is difficult to evaluate division performance unless the transfer prices exceed full costs.
Generally, a company can save more money and effort through internal sales compared with external
sales, due to the absence of customer credit checking or collecting. In addition, market based transfer
prices contribute to the evaluation of the economic viability and profitability of profit centers
individually. Market based transfer pricing portrays the real market supply and demand more clearly
because, when supply exceeds demand, market prices may decrease, so market based transfer prices
decrease as well.
However, market based transfer pricing has several disadvantages. You cannot use the market based
transfer pricing method when there is no market price in the market. For example, when the selling
division makes specially customized products for the buying division, you cannot get a market price
for the products. Similarly, in the case of a pharmaceutical company selling patent protected drugs,
you cannot get an appropriate market price for

Final Reflection
Final essay I have learned so many things out of this class that would be very useful to me in the
future. Also, I don t think that if I truly want to write about all the things I have learned from this class
it would all fill a 2 pages paper. However, the three main things that I have retained from this include
how to write a response paper, how to read a book better, and how to better write essays.
Although, I have never written a response paper before; this class has taught me not only how to write
a response paper, but also how to write a response paper that would make me earn a good grade.
According to our literature book, a response paper is mostly about personal opinions and the
relationship between the essay you are writing about and your own personal life. However, it is
required to remain organized in order for your paper to make sense. Despite the fact that a response
paper is mostly an opinion essay, you still have to write about the things that happen in the essay you
are writing a response paper about. Also, you may use quotes of the essay in your paper to explain an
event that maybe has a different meaning to you rather than the book s explanation. I have also learned
to always give the citation of the book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

reading in case I don t understand the meaning of a certain word. In addition, I have learned that while
reading a book that have questions, it might help to read the questions first before reading the essay.

The Brown Vs. Board Of Education Case
Brown verses board of education started on December ninth 1952. The case was concluded on May
seventeenth 1954. Brown verses board of education is a very important, historical case. It is a United
States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared that all state laws establishing separate public
schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. Before the Brown verses board of
education case was concluded, black, and white children had to be taught in separate schools.
Supposedly, it was not moral for white, and black kids to be near each other. Even outside of school
there were separate water fountains, there were separate bathrooms, there were separate restaurants,
and many other parts of daily life where black people, and white people were not allowed to go to the
same places. Both of these races were supposed to have separate, but equal treatment. However, the
white run places had much more funding, and much nicer amenities than the places where black
people were allowed to go. This was deeply immoral. The first of the groups to be positively effected
by Mamie Phillips Clark, and Kenneth Bancroft Clark was the group of kids who were put through the
coloring test. The coloring test was an experiment that was a big part of the Brown v. Board of
Education decision. This experiment is less well known than the doll experiment, it still played a huge
part in the outcome of the Brown verses board of education case. Mamie, and Kenneth did this

Hume s Problem Of Induction Essay
Hume provided an integral philosophical question analyzing the problems of causality and of
induction. Following Hume s claims, Kant offered his attempt to solve Hume s problem (or, more
broadly, the problems that empiricism faced). By carefully explaining what the problem is that Kant is
attempting to solve, then explaining vigilantly how Kant tries to solve it. Thus leading to a concluding
critical examination to Kant s solution, indicating whether it s successful and why or why not that s so.
Hume asserts that there is no form of good reasoning that leads to the conclusion that the future will
resemble the past, or that similar causes will lead to similar effects. Hume dedicated his philosophical
work trying to uncover the problem of induction, and his skepticism of causality. Hume s claims stem
from separating two asserts of knowledge as relations of ideas priori, meaning that they are certain and
it is impossible to imagine them to be false, they tell you about the meaning of words, knowledge of
truths and facts and matters of fact much of what the scientific community uses, there are craters on

assertions are problematic. Referencing Hume s theory of knowledge, there is no absolute justification
for the faulty assertions, thus emerging the problem of causation. Hume asserts that our senses can t

  • 2. How I Started Learning Piano I started learning piano when I was six years old. Even though I had to practice several hours a day instead of playing outside, I enjoyed mastering a new piece and performing in front of an audience. Unfortunately, my hands could not reach a full octave of keys. This made it impossible to play some of the more complex pieces and I eventually stopped playing once I moved to the US. During my freshman year of high school, a friend convinced me to try playing again on the piano located in an isolated hallway of our school. Despite not touching a piano in years, once I placed my hands on the keys, my muscle memory was sufficient to play the first half of Fur Elise . When she then gave me a piece of music, I was surprised to see that I had not forgotten how to sight read, which was my least favorite part of piano lessons when I was younger. Hesitantly, I was able to follow the sheet music and start playing one hand at the time. As I practiced over the next few days, I could once again play most of the pieces I once mastered. Just for fun, I even borrowed some of the pieces my friend was practicing. My high school has a yearly competition between the grades call SING! Each grade would create the sets and costumes to perform a one hour play, including acting, singing, and dancing. My friend was to play the piano as part of the orchestra, and the pieces I have been learning were part of the show. When she broke her wrist a mere half hour before the show, she recommended that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s even affecting children. According to the American Heart Association, the percentage for child obesity raised to about 18.4% ranging from children as young as 2 and older. • 4. High Tier Punishment My teachers in lower grades used punishments more than rewards to influence my behaviors. Starting from kindergarten the punishment system was introduced to me. Whenever I misbehaved, I had to move the clothespin with my name on it, up the next paper plate which symbolized a higher tier of punishment. The three levels were green, yellow, and red. The first tier, green, symbolized freedom to play during recess, the second tier, yellow, symbolized a penalty of time that had to be sat on a bench, and the final tier, red, symbolized a trip to the principal s office. The fear of having to go see the principal or having to sit on the bench for a period of time was my motivation to not misbehave. This system of punishments continued with increasing ... • 5. Forrest Gump Film Analysis Forrest Gump is a movie that was released in the summer of 1994 and is based on a novel by the same name that was written by Winston Groom almost a decade earlier in 1986. The movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Paramount Pictures. The film features Tom Hanks as the main character Forrest Gump who is a slow witted character but also has a heart of gold and is extremely courageous. The supporting cast consists of Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan), Robin Wright (Forrest s mother) , Sally Field(Jenny) , Mykelti Williamson (Bubba), among others. In this critique I will be summarizing the plot and analyzing what I liked and disliked about the movie and whether it stands the test of time. The movie begins with Forrest Gump waiting at a bus stop and starting a friendly conversation with a stranger sitting next to him. He begins to tell his life story and drops one of the most famous lines in film history, My Momma always said, life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get. . This line would be the whole focus of the movie as you will see what Forrest Gump has experienced and accomplished in his life up to that point, as well as the many important figures he had crossed paths with. Early on in life Forrest was often bullied at school for his curved spine and his low intelligence. On his first day of school in 1950s Greenbow, Alabama, Forrest meets a girl named Jenny Curran who becomes Forrest s only friend and later he would develop a crush for ... • 6. Difference Between Service Quality And Customer Satisfaction Introduction: Service quality represents a fundamental aspect of delivery, which strongly influences consumer satisfaction and, as a result, loyalty. In today s global market a customer s service expectation has to be met and exceeded eventually in order to retain customers as well as achieve success. Perceived quality of a product or a service is becoming one of the major competitive factors in the business world and has led to the innovation of the Quality Era (Peeler, 1996). In simple words, the comparison of customer expectations with service performance is service quality. On the other hand, customer satisfaction is defined as a pleasurable fulfilment response toward a good, service, benefit, or reward (Oliver, 1997). Both of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sureshchandra, Rajendran and Anantharaman (2002) identified five critical aspects of service quality from the customers point of view namely core service/service product, human element of service delivery, systematisation of service delivery, tangibles of service and lastly social responsibility in order to conceptualise service quality. Table 1 will further provide an explanation to the five critical aspects of service quality as outlined by Sureshchandra et al (2002). Table 1: SI.no. Critical Factors Explanation of the critical factors 1. Core service or Service product Basically means the content of a service. 2. Hinton, we learn about the life of many characters and their experiences, troubles, and different lifestyles. Every character has their own story to tell and unique traits. Which is why I chose the topic of characterization. All the characters show their real colors and change throughout the story. We learnt the real background on their lives and not just the stereotype of the two groups. PonyBoy Curtis, is part of the Greasers but he s not your typical greaser, he s not like the rest. These boys choose to take all of what they had and throw it away. What happens to these boys next is something that you would not want to wish on anybody. • 9. The Breakdown Of The Titanic Disaster Titanic Imagine going on what is supposed to be a magnificent vacation, but turns out to be a horrendous disaster. The titanic was the biggest man made ship and was supposed to be an unsinkable ship. Work began in 1909 in the massive Harland and Wolff yard. Titanic continued nonstop until the spring of 1911. There was peace and the world had an even tenor to its way. Nothing was revealed the morning the trend of which was not known the night before. It seems to me the disaster about to occur was the event that not only made the world rub it s eyes and awake but woke it with a start keeping it moving at a rapidly accelerating pace ever since with less and less peace, satisfaction, and happiness. To my mind the world of today awoke April 15, 1912. Jack B. Thayer a titanic survivor. There were many flaws in the design of the titanic. The titanic was doomed from the start because of the design. In fact the water tight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also the third class area had a piano, which was fancy back then. The first class had three electric elevators and the second class had one electric elevator and to complete that they had people that were called operators. In the end the titanic would have been a great ship if it didn t have so many fatal flaws. In just one theory, Burton believed that melancholy could be prevented with a sufficient sleep, music, healthy diet, and consequential work , as well as having a balanced social life with friends and family. Moreover, in the period of 18th century, the theory of melancholia, which is linked to a Major Depressive Disorder, had become progressively more challenged by electrical and mechanical explanations; whereby, if a person exhibited a gloomy and dark state of mind it was also proved that the person gave way to a depleted state of energy loss (Girdlera Klatzkinb, 2007). The term depression was derived from a Latin verb deprimere, to press down. Dated as far back to the 14th century, the term to depress meant to bring down in spirits or to conquer (AllDisease.org, 2011). Even though melancholia continued to be the leading diagnostic expression, depression increased its frequency (its usage of name) in the medical field and was a synonym by the end of its century. The DSM I (1952) (as cited in Girdlera Klatzkinb, 2007) refers to depressive reaction and the DSM II (1968) (as cited in Girdlera Klatzkinb, 2007) depressive neurosis, as words that define an extreme reaction to an identifiable conflict or an internal circumstance (DSM, 2000). • 11. The Rising Cost Of Higher Education The rising cost of higher education is a topic of large concern today. As tuition prices continue to grow at a quicker pace than housing prices, consumer prices and average hourly wages, it is becoming harder and harder for the average American family to afford going to college. What factors have been driving this large rise in tuition prices? This thesis aims to set up a supply and demand framework to analyze the various forces that may be driving the price of higher education to rise above the Consumer Price Index over time. After defining long run supply and demand for the higher education market, this thesis addresses economy wide factors and summarizes the findings of Robert Archibald and David Feldman in Why Does College Cost So Much?. Next, this thesis examines higher education specific factors and specifically tests the hypothesis: The long run supply curve for higher educations is theoretically vertical. The inability for supply to meet the increasing demand for higher education results in a supply and demand imbalance that drives up the price of higher education. After looking at both economy wide and higher education specific factors, it is apparent that slow productivity growth and large wage increases for professors (cost disease) and an unresponsive total enrollment (supply) in the face of rising demand are largely driving the increase in the price of higher education. In order to curb this rising prices, his thesis will offer a few policy implications and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Racism In Trethewey s Native Guard In Trethewey s Native Guard, graves symbolize of the futility of mankind s efforts to conceal its evils, and of failure to combat the racist system put in place by white America. For years, Trethewey s mother fought to protect her daughter from the hatred and prejudice in America. Her protest against the hatred of America was snuffed out by abusive partners and the nascent racism of America. In the poem Graveyard Blues, she describes the atmosphere of the graveyard as blues y and dreary. She wander[s] now among names of the dead: My mother s name, stone pillow for my head, her mother s name now only a marker of her lifetime of suffering. Not only a problem in Trethewey s time, racism and inherent discrimination was an issue for even the African American heroes of the Civil War, the Native Guard receive no recognition from the historians of the fort or the Daughters of the Confederacy. In the poem Elegy for the Native Guards, Trethewey states that there are no names carved for the Native Guards 2nd Regiment, Union men, black phalanx. What is monument to their legacy? They receive no honorable grave. They receive the most barbaric of burial rites, doomed to have fish dart among their bones. In folklore, opportunities for making a wish or for wishes to come true or be granted are themes that are sometimes used. In literature In fiction a wish is a supernatural demand placed on the recipient s unlimited request. When it is the center of a tale, the wish is usually a template for a morality tale, be careful what you wish for ; it can also be a small part of a tale, in which case it is often used as a plot device. Snow White s mother s wish for a beautiful child might have been a coincidence, but the father s wish in The Seven Ravens transforms his seven sons into ravens, just as the mother s wish in The Raven transforms her daughter. This is common in a tale involving a person, male or female, wishing for a child, even one that is a hedgehog, or a sprig of myrtle, or no bigger than a hazel nut. The number of wishes granted varies. Aladdin had an unlimited number in the original story, but was restricted to three wishes in the 1992 Disney film. As in the Charles Perrault tale The Ridiculous Wishes, three is the most common, but others may be granted to fit the constraints of the tale. Several authors have spun variations of the wish for more wishes theme, though some disallow this as cheating. In many stories the wording of the wish is extremely important. • 14. Causes And Effects Of Bullying Triston Norris Battle/Martinez English 111 10/23/15 Causes and Effects of Bullying Bullying is a big issue that spreads through the world. It can happen to anyone of all ages, and in numerous ways. Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among people that involves a real or perceived power imbalance that either repeats or has the potential to repeat, overtime (Bullying Definition). There are so many factors that tie into bullying such as, why the bully is actually bullying, why the bully chose that victim, or even the effects that occur while the bullying is taking place. Low self esteem is a common reason why someone would want to bully a person. Low self esteem is the lack of pride a person feels in themselves. Often times a bully feels like they are less than others and the only way for them to feel better about themselves is to try to bring others down. A lot of bullies aren t trying to hurt someone physically, they use words and certain remarks to torture a person, making that person feel just as less as them just to uplift their own self esteem. Although low self esteem is a cause narcissism is also a factor to bullying. Not only can a bully feel less of themselves but they can also feel that they are higher or better than others. Cockiness is a trait seen in many bullies. This may show in people such as jocks at a high school, or a fellow co worker that may have a higher position or make a higher salary. Once you have six houses and a plane, it s just about a number. It s never been anything I understood. This is a quote by Kevin Bacon, a very awesome and apparently worldly actor, and it perfectly captures the essence of the theme that I have come to for The Great Gatsby. The theme I see most strongly reflected in the book is this: Although greed and lust are human nature, they are often used as a substitute for happiness, but almost always lead to decay. I will provide examples of this theme by looking into events and the behavior of characters throughout the plot of the book. One main event in the book that I believe strongly represents the theme is when Gatsby is shot while floating in the pool that he had one of the people working for him wait to drain even though it was the beginning of the fall season (p.161). I see this as a strong reflection of the theme starting with the symbolism of the pool (which is apart of a long chain of symbols). I m going to drain the pool to day, Mr. Gatsby. Leaves ll start falling pretty soon, and then there s always trouble with the pipes. Don t do it to day, Gatsby answered. He turned to me apologetically. You know, old sport, I ve never used that pool all summer? (p.161) I see the pool as representative of being full of Gatsby s thoughts and love for Daisy and that he is not ready to drain it yet, and wants to float on what s ... When Elizabeth Tudor had succeeded the throne, religious strife, a huge government debt, and failures in war, had caused England to be considered a poor credit risk on the Continent. Though popular and much admired, Elizabeth did not inherit a stable and prosperous country, thus the quest for stability and prosperity became the guiding force of her reign. She constantly avoided foreign entanglements and religious extremism. The motto Elizabeth Semper Eadem Latin, meaning Always the same was highly appropriate. Queen Elizabeth I left behind an extraordinary image of a dazzling era of excitement and achievement, nearly superhuman heroes and daring deeds, with the Queen, larger than life, radiating inspiration at the center of it all. Organisation change is the ability of an organisation to change over time and is reliant on the ability of the organisation to change the individual behaviour of individual employees (Robertson, Roberts and Porras, 1993). Organisational change is a common occurrence in modern organisations and the change can come from new employees to new strategies. It is relevant in the case where organisational change is occurring however a lack of communication about the change has cause issues among the organisation and its clients. These examples prove that Phoenix is not just an ordinary character but instead, Old Phoenix is a character with a higher meaning. Through Phoenix s journey, mythology is included again. Phoenix s journey begins in December, a bright frozen day in the early morning (Welty 1). She is equated with the morning, the rising sun, for she is the immortal bird which rises from its own ashes as the sun rises, and dies only to be reborn (Ardolino 2). The reference points are used by the terminal and initial points of real time events. There is also two hypothetical times: (Dalrymple pg. 68): the perfect time (that is pertaining to the perfect aspect) and the progressive (which is during time). When continuing analysis of tense and aspect, it requires to identify if the relationships will or will not substantiate among time and events. Past Perfect: E....R....S I had been in California when I saw her. Future Perfect: S....E....R I will have been to California when is see you next. It can be seen from these classifications of tenses above that the relative tenses and the reference time are split apart(this is what the use of the periods are for to demonstrate the time splits). Another thing to analyze is that only in the future perfect tense does speech time occurs first in the sentence. In addressing the past perfect tense, the lecture states that the role of the past perfect is backshifting in the sequence of tense which is why I represented the time split from event time, reference time and speech time apart us such. Other examples offered: He said that he preferred the darker cigars. (past tense=present tense) He said that he had selected the darker cigar. General Douglas Macarthur Accomplishments General Douglas Macarthur is most commonly known for what he did in combat, but it is also amazing how successful he was during the US Occupation of Japan after World War II. In 1945, Douglas Macarthur was nominated head of the Supreme Command of Allied Powers (SCAP), which placed him in charge of the whole Occupation process. This was a very difficult job, which only talented men like Macarthur could have handled. He was forced to make very hard decisions, which are still relevant today. The American Occupation of Japan was undoubtedly the most successful occupation, and possibly the only successful occupation of a defeated nation ever attempted. Macarthur s plan could be divided into three parts. First, it was to intentionally punish and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal that America had was for Japan to become a Democratic nation. This goal was difficult to accomplish because there were concerns of communism rising in Japan. The Americans believed communism was a major threat and wanted no part of it in the US or Japan. It was important to steer the Japanese people away from communism and towards Democracy. Macarthur used news systems in Japan to spread democratic ideas and to allow the Japanese people to better understand democracy. The lives of the Japanese people were changed by a few different things. For children, the education system was modified, democratic ideas were encouraged. Laws regulating families were also changed according to the new way of life. Macarthur arranged occupation policies to address the weakened economy, and tax reforms were created and sent out to the people. There were also attempts to control inflation. Besides the introduction of the Constitution, there was another major political introduction. The supreme political institution had been changed to be the Parliament of Japan, the Diet, which was to be made up of freely elected representatives of the people. Japan was not use to having a parliament, but it was a good decision by Macarthur and has made Japan very successful. Transfer Pricing--Market-Based vs. Cost-Based Introduction Transfer pricing is one of the key factors of a management control system, which helps a company to achieve its goals, including profit maximization and tax minimization. There are several methods of setting transfer prices among profit centers within the same organization. Each profit center tries to set transfer prices which maximize their own profit. The buying and selling profit centers profits are largely affected by transfer prices. The company should consider whether the transfer pricing method has simplicity and transparency, which provide objective performance measurements for division managers. With regard to simplicity and transparency, it is best for the company to set market based transfer pricing because this is more objective than cost based transfer pricing. In particular, when companies use cost based transfer pricing, it is difficult to evaluate division performance unless the transfer prices exceed full costs. Generally, a company can save more money and effort through internal sales compared with external sales, due to the absence of customer credit checking or collecting. In addition, market based transfer prices contribute to the evaluation of the economic viability and profitability of profit centers individually. Market based transfer pricing portrays the real market supply and demand more clearly because, when supply exceeds demand, market prices may decrease, so market based transfer prices decrease as well. However, market based transfer pricing has several disadvantages. You cannot use the market based transfer pricing method when there is no market price in the market. For example, when the selling division makes specially customized products for the buying division, you cannot get a market price for the products. Similarly, in the case of a pharmaceutical company selling patent protected drugs, you cannot get an appropriate market price for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, I don t think that if I truly want to write about all the things I have learned from this class it would all fill a 2 pages paper. However, the three main things that I have retained from this include how to write a response paper, how to read a book better, and how to better write essays. Although, I have never written a response paper before; this class has taught me not only how to write a response paper, but also how to write a response paper that would make me earn a good grade. Despite the fact that a response paper is mostly an opinion essay, you still have to write about the things that happen in the essay you are writing a response paper about. Also, you may use quotes of the essay in your paper to explain an event that maybe has a different meaning to you rather than the book s explanation. • 37. The Brown Vs. Board Of Education Case Brown verses board of education started on December ninth 1952. The case was concluded on May seventeenth 1954. Brown verses board of education is a very important, historical case. It is a United States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared that all state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. Before the Brown verses board of education case was concluded, black, and white children had to be taught in separate schools. Supposedly, it was not moral for white, and black kids to be near each other. Even outside of school there were separate water fountains, there were separate bathrooms, there were separate restaurants, and many other parts of daily life where black people, and white people were not allowed to go to the same places. Both of these races were supposed to have separate, but equal treatment. However, the white run places had much more funding, and much nicer amenities than the places where black people were allowed to go. This was deeply immoral. The first of the groups to be positively effected by Mamie Phillips Clark, and Kenneth Bancroft Clark was the group of kids who were put through the coloring test. The coloring test was an experiment that was a big part of the Brown v. Board of Education decision. This experiment is less well known than the doll experiment, it still played a huge part in the outcome of the Brown verses board of education case. Mamie, and Kenneth did this ... • 39. Hume s Problem Of Induction Essay Hume provided an integral philosophical question analyzing the problems of causality and of induction. Following Hume s claims, Kant offered his attempt to solve Hume s problem (or, more broadly, the problems that empiricism faced). By carefully explaining what the problem is that Kant is attempting to solve, then explaining vigilantly how Kant tries to solve it. Thus leading to a concluding critical examination to Kant s solution, indicating whether it s successful and why or why not that s so. Hume asserts that there is no form of good reasoning that leads to the conclusion that the future will resemble the past, or that similar causes will lead to similar effects. Hume dedicated his philosophical work trying to uncover the problem of induction, and his skepticism of causality. Hume s claims stem from separating two asserts of knowledge as relations of ideas priori, meaning that they are certain and it is impossible to imagine them to be false, they tell you about the meaning of words, knowledge of truths and facts and matters of fact much of what the scientific community uses, there are craters on the moon, uncertain and can be imagined to be false, tell you about the world. Referencing Hume s theory of knowledge, there is no absolute justification for the faulty assertions, thus emerging the problem of causation.
