Nelson Mandela As A Good Role Model
Many of the world s notorious, big named and noted stars ranging from superstars to motivational
moderators have come to lose most of their luxuries to make the person there are today, one of the
members has brought himself up on stage is Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was born on July
18,1918 in Transkei, South Africawho was well known as he came from a Tribal Leader of the
Tembu Tribe making him a person of nobility and pompous. Mandela is the rarest of leaders: A
person whose influence and moral sway transcends the cause he is most associated with in his case,
the appalling apartheid in South Africa, under which he suffered and was imprisoned for a heart
breaking 27 years. However, since the abolition of that frightful regime and practice,... Show more

Legend, we will never forget the things this man has taught us, and we will never truly
comprehend the level of strength that it took for him to endure many of his years! Thank you,
Mandela, by Rihanna was an example of how Nelson Mandela has changed people including
other celebrities to be better people in life. What so much of the world actively hungers for in its
public life, and so very rarely finds, is there in Nelson Mandela leadership with moral force. Are
there any others in our day with such exceptional characteristics? I guess not. Nelson Mandela
didn t just spread awareness to stop racism and apartheid but also wanted to spread love and
kindness among the people of the world as during the UN they asked everyone to take 67
minutes out of their day to aid others. The reason the number 67 was chosen is because Mandela
has spent 67 years of his life servicing and helping humanity as a whole, shows how much
respect the world gives to Nelson Mandela as not a hero but also as a role model. This was a
beautiful message to every person, especially young people, because it is meant to get people to
think about others, take part in their communities, and making this world a more humane place to

Film Music Critique Essay
Mus 355
Music Critique of film Score
Action, suspense, love, and drama are all the makings for a great film. None of these key features
to a film could have any substance or feeling without the help of music. Composers play a big role
for setting the tone of the movie, developing characters, moving along or supporting action, and
depicting the time and place the movie is taking place. In the movie Heat, Elliot Goldenthal does
just that. Goldenthal was born in NY in 1954 and studied music under John Corigliano and Aaron
Copeland. His partner is Julie Taymor and he won an Oscar for the movie Frida which Julie
directed. Goldenthal has composed for several films as well as concert halls, theater and dance. He
also has written an opera ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This distinguishes his character of the hero, from the other two villain characters. At the end of the
movie Robert De Niro s character is trying to escape the country with the girl while Al Pacino s
character is right on his tail. There is a moment when De Niro realizes he cannot make it out
with the girl and in and unspoken stare he leaves. The music matches the feeling of the moment
using long drown out chords creating that sense a wanting and loss. As Pacino chases De Niro
through a field the music stops to intensify the action and set up the final scene. The music fades
back in shortly before Pacino shoots De Niro. The music carries into a high key riff that is
repeated with strings playing four tones slowly behind the keys. The music grows louder adding
more instruments such as large cymbals and carries into the credits. Goldenthal s score was
replaced in the final scene with Moby s God Moving Over the Face of the Water. Director Michael
Mann felt that Moby s music better represented a feeling of relief, that it was over, that Pacino
finally got his guy. At the same time the music related the two characters. Opposite from the
beginning where the music separated the two, here it connects them demonstrating how they were
not that different and had respect and admiration for each

Arguments Against Christianity
In this paper, I will argue against Christianity being a rational religion because it holds beliefs
which are irrational and lack sufficient evidence. First, I will state this position on the premise of
words from the Apostles Creed. Second, I will argue that belief in things that humankind does not
understand is not a cause for disbelief, rather belief is required for the things humankind does not
understand. Lastly, I will respond that belief in the things we do not understand is flawed when
argued by a Christian, because the Christian view of humankind s sinful nature does not allow for
humankind to define flawlessly what is rational or irrational to believe. All of this means that
Christianityis not itself a rational religion, although there may still be a rational religion.
The beliefs of Christianity such as the virgin birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ are irrational and
lack sufficient evidence. The Apostles Creed reads, I believe in Jesus Christ... ...born of the Virgin
Mary... ...On the third day he rose again. First off, from science, hard truth, we know that human
beings always have forty six chromosomes (excluding diseases). Each human being received twenty
three chromosomes from their mother and twenty three chromosomes from their father. The virgin
birth requires us to believe that Jesus Christ had no father, yet still had forty six chromosomes. To
believe in the virgin birth is irrational, because a virgin birth is impossible. Second off, the
resurrection of

Reading A Book Written By Cheryl Rose Tobey And Caroyln B....
I realized that nowhere in my practice did I provide diagnostic assessments to help me analyze
specific areas of success or struggle pertaining to learning objectives within the course. This module
showed me how to identify these areas that may need additional support or enrichment. I learned
how to collect and compile much more informative data on student knowledge in these areas, and
how to use these measures to help improve student learning.
My first goal became to develop and acquire a bank of formative assessments and diagnostic
questions to better determine each student s prior knowledge of a learning objective and, more
importantly, their misunderstandings or misconceptions of that particular learning objective. I
started by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students that extend and apply ideas inappropriately elsewhere are overgeneralizing. Students that
have difficulty distinguishing between two concepts, or create hybrids of concepts, have partial
conceptions. Finally, students that have misinterpreted and internalized prior content have
conceptual misunderstandings. If an educator can identify the type of misconception, they can
create better tailored instruction.
In order to uncover the misconceptions my students had prior to teaching a new learning target, I
decided to administer short, diagnostic probes that put emphasis on explanations of their thinking
and reasoning (in place of an answer only response). I stressed that this was not graded, instead
meant to help me understand their thinking so I could plan, design, and provide instruction that
would be much more responsive to their needs. This was the first time I administered a formative
assessment prior to a lesson.
The first learning target probe (p 135) focused on uncovering any misconceptions prior to teaching
theorems about lines, angles, and triangles, such as vertical angles are congruent, measures of
interior angles of a triangle sum to 180, and the relationships between the interior and exterior
angles of a triangle. Specifically, I was looking to see if they recognized congruent and
supplementary angle relationships based on their logical reasoning of properties, or

Emily Dickinson Extended Metaphors
For most, specifically female poets, Emily Dickinson is a legend. Dickinson emerged out of an
era in the 1800 s when women were not acknowledged for their diligence and were not given the
opportunities to be educated as males were given. Dickinson wrote a total of one thousand seven
hundred and seventy five poems including She Sweeps with many colored Brooms , which was
written between 1858 and 1861. Dickinson is well known for the themes of her literary works to
involve death, love, religion, nature, or eternity. The poem She Sweeps with many colored Brooms
incorporates the use of a theme involving nature since in her poem a common housewife is being
compared to a parting sunset. Through the use of an extended metaphor and specific... Show more

In line one she uses words like she , sweeps , and leaves. What these three words have in common
is a long e sound. The use of a long e sound at this point in the poem creates the rhythm of a
broom sweeping. A broom goes from one side to the next in the way that these words alternate in
placement, going back and forth. She sweeps with many colored brooms, and leaves the shreds
behind (1). She uses the short i sound in the third stanza when she uses the word still twice and
till only once. The vowel sound of these words carries a quick pace just as a sunset does. The use of
the short i sound gives the reader the image of a quickly parting

I Am Devoted Community Service
I am devoted to community service. As a student, my immediate community is my school. I ran
for election to the Old Rochester Regional Junior High School Student Council a mere six weeks
after I moved to this town, where I knew not one person, so that I could get to know people and
learn about the issues students at my new schools faced. I won and was further elected President by
a student body who had just only met me. I have now been President for two years in a row. As
student government representative, my role is to listen to the issues of the students and to
represent them to the best of my ability to the administration, the teachers, and the outside

In addition, I look forward to taking part in an art club or chorus as a creative outlet. Continuing
soccer throughout high school is important to me. I am motivated by the competition and
camaraderie of team sports. While at high school, with the opportunities at hand and sport seasons
that do not overlap, I aspire to join whichever sports may interest me.
Outside of school I am very involved in soccer, and have been playing competitively for 7 years.
Prior to that, I played recreationally since I was 3 years old. In elementary school I experimented
with other sports, but my love for soccer was invulnerable so I stuck with it. I have been captain
of four teams, I am very proud of my leadership position on the field.
Besides sports I love music. I sing in my school chorus as a leading alto and have been for 3
years. Besides chorus class, I have never had formal training, but I would enjoy the opportunity
for such training if it was afforded to me. While singing is an art, it also is a form of expression.
I love to sing because it helps me convey emotions in a way that other people can feel what I m
experiencing through song. I have notebooks filled with original lyrics which are accompanied by
guitar chords. Despite the fact I have never had any classes, my father inspired me to begin playing
the guitar, which I plan to continue pursuing in

Public Education In The 1800s
The idea of education has advanced throughout history, constantly shifting by societal ideals and
human evolvement. This change is especially prominent during the 1800s and continues to alter to
this very day with education policies. Public education first began during the Industrial Revolution.
During this crucial time in history, many children were required to get an educationin order to learn
the trades of the growing economy and business as opposed to getting hurt in from hazardous
machinery. These skills were limited reading, writing, and math. Ultimately, from this concept,
public education was founded and from then, our society has grown into a well educated
community in which every individual has a role into making an impressive,... Show more content on

These singular pieces must match and intertwine to create a scenic picture. Individuals must
realize that they are part of something bigger than themselves, for the wellbeing of society.
Education, along with a diploma, is physical proof that you can succeed in your profession as a
functional being, fitting perfectly in an operative society. Moreover, with education, the idea of
a good society will be further enforced. A good society as defined by Draper and Ramsay (6), is
a society that can prosper by giving its citizens basic physical rights such as security and health.
Furthermore, a good society should lend its citizens a political voice and give its people access to
education that will help they make their own conclusions. To emphasize the last point, the essay
states, People who are illiterate are said to be blind , which is an interesting allusion to Plato s
allegory. By stressing individualism througheducation, a student can access their toolbox of senses
and resources as they adventure as a puzzle piece of society. Some people who do not pursue
higher education are therefore not as well equipped. As Plato (306) would say, I think that he would
rather suffer anything than entertain these false notions and live in this miserable

Symphony Orchestra Essay

Music 1306
Concert Critique #1 I have never been personally a fan of the romantic orchestra music but going to
listen to a concert live is breathtaking. I attended the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra,
Masterpieces concert with music director Fouad Fakhouri performing Igor Stravinsky s Symphony
of Psalms and Gustav Mahler s Symphony No.1 in D major. There was a full stage of musicians
and a complete choir to back it up.
The first half of the performance was a complete orchestra of woodwinds, strings, drums, brass,
excreta and a four part choir. Overall the performance took no longer than thirty minutes to play the
three part Symphony of Psalms. This Symphony was much shorter than I was ... Show more content

Mr. Fakhouri had also explained how this is one of his favorite pieces and just had to have his
orchestra perfect, as they did successfully.
After a minor wobble of the director stand, a few adjustments and giggles, Symphony No.1 in D
major began. The first movement started off with an eerie introduction, with the first two notes
morphing into a birdcall as well as main theme but a very magical sound. It made for a very
soothing, romantic time. Throughout the piece I felt as if it told a story as most music does,
what I came to believe it was a love story. The Allegro begins in the cello with the second
Wayfarer song, Ging heut morgen Ubers Feld, (I Walked this Morning over the Field). With a
light and happy tone in the beginning as if two lovers had just met, this was the main theme of
this movement. Suddenly there was a deep, heavy part maybe one of despair in paradise but that
only lasted for a short period as it came to a victorious ending of happily ever after. (Kahn)
The second movement Scherzo, gave more of an elegant, royal ball sound. Where the women dress
in gowns and the men in tuxedos, while drinking wine and dancing the night away. This movement
has the rhythm of the Landler, an Australian folk dance. It conforms to the classic minuet and trio
form though Mahler takes the first section beyond the standard repeat structure. The first three
notes of the Scherzo and the Trio recall the birdcall theme from the first movement. If

Sacrifices To The Revolutionary War
Two hundred fifty years ago, the British surrendered at the Battle of Yorktown. Eighty Americans
were killed. That was just one of the many battles fought during the Revolutionary War. Throughout
those eight brutal years, many sacrifices were made.
Throughout my childhood, I saw the Revolutionary War through the eyes of Annie and Jack in
The Magic Tree House. It seemed as if the war was only for a short period of time and there was no
blood, pain, or any sort of horrible thing. No longer a five year old, I have noticed the sacrifices
made. When a man decided to fight alongside the Patriots, he was not only risking his life, but his
family, his slaves, his land, and any other possessions or valuables. Had the colonies lost the war,
every member of the army or militia would have been sentenced to death. I think that today s
children do not understand that the soldiers were not only risking their lives, but they were saying
goodbye to their friends, family, homes, and other familiar things. The soldiers became dirty, tired,
hungry, and they continued fighting for the welfare of the people.

President Presidential Debates And Vice President s Views...
It was a great experience to watch vice presidential debates as it was different from presidential
debates. Also, was engaging to see what will be different from presidents to vice presidents. As I
watched vice president debates after third presidential debate, I can say that topics were same.
They were discussing topics about immigration, Syria, Russia, economy and education. I did not
like that vice presidents interrupted each other a lot of times, but overall, it was a very cognitive
and open debate.
The first topic was about economic issues and vice president s views about our economy. The
reporter has asked the first question about their explanation of a fact that non partisan committees
said neither of their economic plans will reduce the national debt. Pence started by stating that he
has done an excellent job as a governor with balanced budget. Republicans plan is to cut taxes and
improve the education. They believe cutting taxes will help US economy to move again. Also, he
has stated the willingness of repealing Obama Care since it does not work as it is right now.
According to Pence, when they will get the economy growing, only after they can deal with the
national debt. Kiane brought the 5 components plan that they are planning to make. It consists of
investing in manufacturing, investing in work force, making colleges debt free, promoting fairness,
promoting small business growth, and raising taxes. In my opinion, democrats already have a clear

Ansel Adams Photographer and Artist Essay example
Ansel Adams photographer and artist
Until the 19th century most artwork was created in a two or three dimensional media. In
England, William Fox discovered a technique that allowed camera images to be captured on
paper. This medium has evolved since Fox s discovery in 1839 to a serious and viable form of art
today. Photography allows the artist to capture what he sees. The image produced is reality to the
artists eye, it can only be manipulated with light and angles.
The photograph is a very powerful medium. The French painter Paul Delaroche exclaimed upon
seeing an early photograph from now on, painting is dead! (Sayre, 2000). Many critics did not take
photography seriously as a legitimate art form until the 20th century. With... Show more content on

Adams decision to be a full time photographer changed the photographic visions of the west. He
spent his time in National parks photographing the immense beauty of nature in these national
treasures.
Adams formed a group with other San Francisco photographers in 1932 called f/64, referring to the
smallest aperture opening on a camera lens (Gray, 1994). The group concentrated on form and
texture. The group translated scale and detail into organic, sometimes abstract design (Jacobs, 1995).
In 1935, Adams published his first book, Making a Photograph. Six years later, his Zone System
was formulated. The Zone System introduced a way for the professional and amateur photographers
to determine and control the exposure and development of prints for maximum visual acuity
(Jacobs, 1995). The Zone System marked his first efforts at public education on photography.
Adams felt a sense of duty to share his knowledge of nature and photography. В…[Adams] was
master teacher as well as a master photographer (Schaefer, 1992). He wrote many books and taught
students his art. Adams technical ability in the darkroom was magical. He set the standard for black

current generations twenty five years after his death. Adams was an experimenter and a modernist

Youth Rebelliion In The 1950s Essay
History Essay By Ben Roberson
During the 1950 s there was significant social change taking place in America. Young people
were dissatisfied with certain conservative aspects of society and their conduct reflected this.
They embraced the rock and roll culture, the new style of music and also the new styles of
dancing and dress that were associated with it shocked the older more conservative people.
Young people were also quick to protest against the controversial issues of the 1950 s. Civil
Rights, the Vietnam War and general politics provided fuel for an already blazing fire. Mass

Around this time young people began to break away from their parents. Prior to this each
generation had grown up treating their parents with the utmost respect and modelling their
behaviour and views on their parents. This change was made easier by the freedom brought
about by access to a car, which lead to increased independence. After the war there was huge
economic growth in America, this coupled with mass production of automobiles made transport
relatively cheap most families were able to afford a car. The children of these families were
often allowed to take out the family car, granting them more freedom to go out with friends and
more privacy for couples. This new show of independence was also evident in the young people s
reaction to social issues that were taking place. Many of the young war veterans returning from the
Second World War and the Korean Warfound it very hard to fit back into society. Many of these
veterans got heavily into both drug taking and social protest. However it wasn t only the youth
returning from war who were dissatisfied with the governments reaction to a number of issues that
young people felt very passionate about, namely civil rights and the onset of the Vietnam War.

Amp Meeting Reflection
Today I went to my first AMP meeting. It was completely different than I expected, but I think
that will turn out to be a good thing. In the beginning I thought this was a program for youth to
attend voluntarily, and I thought most of the attendees would be from families with foster or
kinship care. I was wrong, as most of the attendees were from group homes around Ames and they
were there as part of their recovery process. This shocked me a little but in just the short amount of
time I spent with them I grew to really like them. I think that often youth in group homes are
stigmatized and thought of as bad kids, when in reality most of them just haven t had the support
they need or grew up in poor environments that lead them to where they are.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Budgeting
A budget is a financial plan reflecting the business strategy and represents a more structured way
of communicating it to the team . The process by which a budget is built and agreed within an
organisation is called budgeting process or budgeting cycle , that represents one of the most
important financial planning tools. This cycle always starts with a vision or a goal, based on
which the approach to be used is chosen. The next step is the elaboration of the budgetitself by
allocating the right resources in the right place. It is very important to keep track of it (the sooner a
variance is spotted, the better, as more time is available to understand it). The last stage is the

Predator-Prey Interaction
Abstract Predators are animals that kill for their food; they must do this in order to survive. There
has been controversy about predation in some areas including the re introduction of wolves into
the Yellowstone National park area and other areas. Predator prey relationships are both beneficial
and detrimental to some species. The weakest and unhealthiest become dinner for those predators
and also become a positive thing for the species that only the strongest of the herd will survive and
continue to reproduce. Some types of prey have defense mechanisms which fight off predators.
Survival of the fittest is the best explained phrase for this type of ecological interaction.

Predation and prey interactions keep the circle of life going.
Benefits of Predation When a predator makes a kill, it feeds not only them, but other species as
well. For example, if there is an elk kill, this will feed other predators like bear, mountain lion,
coyotes, eagles and others. Smaller rodents and other scavengers, like ravens will also benefit
from a kill. We are predators ourselves we have to kill to eat, just most of us don t do it
ourselves, if we are meat eaters. What we don t eat can go to the dogs and feed them. Bacteria
and other parasites can also join in on the fun. Other things we don t eat, can go to compost, so
there are many ways in which predation benefits the food chain. It definitely feeds various links
on the food web. Predation is also used to control populations of certain problematic species, such
as snails, which pass certain types of diseases to other species including humans, as explained by
Molles. They have used crayfish in some places such as Kenya and other East African countries to
control a problematic snail population. (Molles, 343) This happens here at times also, with
introducing species that will eradicate problem species or invasive species that are taking over
watersheds and other ecosystems.
Predator Body Systems Predators can be birds of prey or carnivores or anything that must kill for
their food. Predation is the interaction between the predator and the prey itself. All

social issues such as racism, cultural differences, individuation, and domination. Anzaldua believes
that her language is yet the most central and important component for her ethnic identity as a
person. If her language is threatened, then her individuality is threatened. She basically responds to
the violence she experienced as her character was restricted in this dominating society that she was
trying to adapt in. Anzaldua used quotes from various scholars who feel the same way about the
society as she did about language, identity, racism, and cultural imperialism. Additionally, her
writing was based on personal experience which enriches the essay with credibility since the
reader is able to get the experience first handed by the victim of these crimes. Furthermore, as an
immigrant myself, I was attracted to this essay because I could relate to many of the topics she
covered. I also saw this as a way to compare my experience with hers so I could see how much
this society has improved overall. I was gulped in the essay by the use of metaphor in the beginning
of the essay which created this interesting curious vibe that grasped my attention. A dentist visit was
used metaphorically to describe the struggle between her identity and the society. The doctor
symbolized the society, and her tongue represented her identity as it was trying to survive in the
restricting society

College Education Is Not Worth It
Americans today tend to believe that once graduating High School, college is redundant. On the
one hand, some argue that college education is not worth it. From this perspective, college is
expensive and students will be in an enormous amount of debt. Though I concede that college is
expensive, I still maintain that students should go to collegeonce graduating high school. My own
view is that college is a must after high school. Although, our society believes college is too
expensive therefore, not necessary, on the other hand college education gives us a personal
development, higher income and more job opportunities.
People who argue that college is worth it contend that college graduates have higher employment
rates, bigger salaries, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
College debt can be a problem when going to college although, the debt can be worth it when the
outcome can be worth the income with a college degree. On average, a college graduate with a
bachelor s degree earned $30,000 more per year than a high school graduate. The median income
for families headed by a bachelor s degree holder was $100,096 in 2011 more than double than
that for a family headed by a high school graduate (College). Having a college degrees can
increase salary. The opposition also says that loans from college force students to delay in life

Comparing the Huxtables with My Family Essay examples
Compating the Huxtables with My Family
Watching a comedy sitcom like The Cosby Show is a great way to unwind from a stressful day at
school. The show s characters are likeable and the storyline is humorous, but halfway through the
program I usually turn the television off and return to the kitchen to wash the dinner dishes.
Watching The Cosby Show makes me feel guilty. The Huxtables are too perfect. Their house is too
perfect. In comparison to the Huxtables I feel like an unfit mother in a slovenly, dysfunctional
family. The characters on The Cosby Show should be portrayed in a more realistic manner; in fact,
the program could be far more entertaining, not to mention relaxing, if certain aspects of the

If I do happen to be in the kitchen with my kids, I am in a ratty bathrobe, hair half set, and
mascara on only one eye. I am making last minute lunches, slurping coffee and ignoring my
husband s bellowing for someone to bring another roll of toilet paper to him in the upstairs
bathroom. My kids and my husband never discuss their daily plans with me; they enjoy adding a
little suspense to my day.
Another farfetched scene from The Cosby Show is Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable s mediation of sibling
quarrels. When a quarrel begins Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable are usually sitting on the couch with
nothing better to do than anticipate a problem. The children come down and rationally explain the
problem and their side of the story. If there is any name calling, the children use harmless words
like stupid and meanie. Meanwhile Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable serenely listen to each child s point of
view. With infinite patience they wisely mediate a truce with a brilliant compromise acceptable to
both sides. Everyone is happy; the problem is solved.
On the contrary, in my family we do not have quarrels; we have combat situations which erupt at
the most inopportune times such as when I m plunging a toilet and my husband is under his car.
The cause of the problem and the kids points of view are irrelevant to us because my husband and

The Effects Of Climate Change On The Environment Of...
Climate change is a current event that many debate. The National Climactic Data Center reported
that, as of June 2012, the average combined global land and ocean temperature was 0.63 degrees
Celsius higher than the twentieth century average. This is the fourth highest temperature ever
recorded. Many credible sources, such as a number of United Nation bodies, the International Panel
of Climate Change, and academic scholars state that climate change cause resource scarcity. A lack
of resources can cause an increase in violent ethnic conflicts, and, in dire circumstances, can even
bring about crimes against humanity and genocide. Genocide and crimes against humanity in
Rwanda, Darfur, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have been... Show more content on

If climate change is not real, than the whole argument about climate change causing resource
scarcity and violent ethnic conflict is invalid. However, there is a lot of evidence that shows
climate change is a real problem. A study by The State of Climate Global Analysis for June 2012
shows that there is evidence for climate change. The temperature of the land and water is above
average, and the number of temperature abnormalities continues to rise. Sunga (2014) writes, that
CNN reported July 2012 was estimated to have been the hottest month for the continental United
States since record keeping began in 1895. (p. 4) A report from the Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change warned that eleven of the last twelve years (from 1995 2006) were among the
twelve warmest years for surface temperature since 1895. It also noted that the ocean has grown to
be over 3000 meters deep, and that average snow coverage and mountain glacier mass had declined.
After being shown the evidence, one probably thinks that climate change is a reality. However, the
fact that climate change exists does not mean that it causes violent ethnic conflict and genocide.
Not many studies have been done on a link between climate change and violent ethnic conflict. Yet,
there has been growing concern in the international community and academic literature that climate
change could have an effect on violent conflict in general. In 1982, the UN General Assembly
created the World Charter for

A Madman s Short Story Quod By Lu Xun
In 1915, the New Culture Movement was initiated, being accompanied by the ideas mainly aimed at
criticising the Confucian traditional values in China, and also approaching a more modern and
western mindset. In 1919, a mass protest of over 6000 students was conducted to rebel against the
signing of the Versailles Treaty, which would hand over Chinese territorial rights from the Germans
to the Japanese and this movement later became known as the May Fourth Movement. One of the
significant leaders of this movement who made great contribution, was Lu Xun. As it was
mentioned by the professor during the class, it is quite of an unquestionable fact that Lu Xun was a
highly influential writer of the New Culture Generation. He often discussed many... Show more

The madman is the main character of the short story. However, a question should be raised
before any analysis is initiated; Is the madman really mad? In the very beginning of the story,
the writer proclaims that he had found out that the madman had suffered from a form of
persecution complex . I disagree with this claim because, like what the writer asserted, if what is
written on the diary is just the outcome of the illusion caused by persecution complex, the value
of the story would be somewhat meaningless. Furthermore, the madman has clear subjectivity
and consistency. Hence, the madman is not actually mad. The madman s diary reminded me of
a Korean folktale that my mother used to tell me, which is about a man with two eyes visiting a
land where everybody is one eyed. The two eyed man who always thought having two eyes is
normal, was mocked and called, abnormal for having two eyes. Eventually the two eyed man
ended up stabbing one of his own eyes and chose to be one of the one eyed men. From the
perspective in regard to this folktale, the madman is actually the one who became conscious of the
truth. However, he is not the only one in the story who is aware of the truth. As it is illustrated in
the text, there are two types of cannibals; those who believe cannibalism is acceptable because it is
their tradition that passed down through multiple generations, and those who realize that
cannibalism is wrong but would still maintain it. Their recognition itself that cannibalism is
inappropriate is same as that of the madman. However, unlike others who do not make an attempt to
break the convention, or tradition (cannibalism), the madman resolutely broke away from the
existing convention and expressed his dedication toward breaking the convention and tried to make
it happen. I personally think that the madman was rather a representation of the intellectual. In

Causes And Effects Of Unemployment
Causes and Effects of Unemployment Travis Epling Strayer University ENG 105 Jeanette
Trammel 9/14/14 Causes and Effects of Unemployment There are many reasons for
unemployment in the United States and around the world. Some of these causes are created by
the individual and others are out of their control. No matter what the cause for unemployment, it
has a devastating effect on the individual, family, and economy. Unemployment defined by the
Encyclopedia Britannica is the condition of one who is capable of working, actively seeking
work, but is unable to find any work. In addition, to define a person as unemployed, the person
must be an active member of the labor force in search of work. (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2012)...

Monetary Effects Because unemployed people receive benefits from the government, there is a
correlation between unemployment and increased government spending. The Employment Act
of 1946 gave the government the responsibility of maintaining a high employment level of labor
and price stability. The effects of this increased spending for unemployment benefits is that
other government programs suffer a loss in their financial support. It also causes a decrease in
the growth of the GDP. There are less people working so less goods and services are being
produced and with fewer people to spend money in the economy there are less goods and
services being purchased. This causes a decrease in demand of products and causes producers to
lower their selling price to avoid a surplus. When the producer lowers their selling price, it causes
the consumer price index to fall. Social Effects Various social effects spring from the people who
are unemployed. They affect both our communities and the unemployed. The skills and
knowledge from the unemployed is lost to our economy which keeps our economy from reaching
its full potential. There is also an increase in crime and social strife during times of high
unemployment. Bruce Weinberg, associate professor of economics at Ohio State University, Eric
Gould, Hebrew University, and David Mustard, University of Georgia conducted a study of the
national crime rates between 1979 and 1997 and found a direct correlation in falling wages

Reflection Essay
As the first semester of my first year as an undergraduate student has progressed, I have realized
how quickly time is passing by. I can easily recall back to the beginning of the semester when it
was Frosh week and how nervous and excited I felt as I was about to commence the new chapter
in my life that is post secondary. As the mid semester quickly sneaks upon us with another five
weeks left, I have found myself to be stumbling from morning to morning and from deadline to
deadline. I am mentally and physically exhausted as well as overwhelmed with the amount of
work I am required to complete; I am burnt out. At the beginning of the semester I had created
several academic goals which would aid in my overall academic success. These goals consisted
of organizing and planning out my week in advance, doing the assigned textbook readings for
each class as well as avoiding last minute assignments and studying. I believe that each one of
my goals are achievable, distinct and will reward me with an increase in my overall academics,
however I did not achieve my goals for more than two weeks. As I didn t plan out my schedule I
had also lost track of my responsibilities and was unproductive most of the time. As a result, I
found myself behind in my readings and was working on assignments as well as studying last
minute. Midterm week was perhaps the worst week I have experienced to this day in my academic

Ghost The Musical Analysis
Ghost: The Musical
Director Douglas E. Stark s adaption of Ghost (based off of Bruce Rubin s story) turns a classic
story into a musical. Stark has worked with Beef and Boards for 40 years and, in 2008, joined
Hillcrest Asset Management as a Managing Director. Beef and Boards is celebrating its 45th
anniversary season with productions such as Mamma Mia, Million Dollar Quartet, and Elf: The
Musical. Beef and Boards theatre in Indianapolis, Indiana made this director s dream of a specific
musical come true with their production of Ghost: The Musical; which I was able to watch on
Thursday, October 26, 2017. The production featured a unique set (featuring an interesting stage
paired with strong lighting) accompanied by a talented cast including the performers, director, and
technical crew. The simplest description for Ghost is a romance gone wrong when tragedy
strikes. The curtain opens on a happy couple, Sam Wheat (Eddie Egan) and Molly Jensen
(Andrea Laxton), moving into their new apartment; however, after a few scenes, a robbery causes
his death. Carl Bruner (Patrick Michael Joyce), Sam s best friend, had been the true reason of his
demise. The musical was, to say the least, a success.
The plot of this theatre piece features characteristics of a comedy, mystery, action, and science
fiction writing. The unique combination of these characteristics gives every member of the
audience the opportunity to enjoy the piece. However, I do believe, the director should have

Identifying The Title Shift Leaders As Exempt Essay
Classifying the Title Shift Leaders as Exempt Classifying the title, shift leader as exempt is more
complicated than it seems. A journalist for the Chicago Tribune, Rex Huppke (2012) says, There
was a time when job titles were simple. You were either the boss or not the boss. Today times has
changed, the FLSA (2010) says, some jobs are classified as exempt by definition. For instance, in

Globalization and Western Dominated Policies in Africa
Abderrahmane Sissako s film Bamako (2006) and Homi Bhabha s essay Of Mimicry and Man:
The Ambivalence of Colonial Discourse both explore how the globalization and Western dominated
policies affect the deepest levels of everyday life of ordinary Africans. In his essay Bhabha defines
Mimicry as the subordination of the eastern countries on the hands of the ruling classes and the
resultant effect of this domination.
The thematic similarities between Sissako s film and Bhabha s essay go beyond their
contemporary post colonial studies. Homi Bhabha was born and raised in India, got his PHD in

betrayal that comes by living in a multicultural nation, and for that they both can be considered a

Reflection Paper On Moral Disengagement
Introduction
We live in a society in which unethical actions are always justified as moral because the majority
are involved in the deeds. We always face an ethical dilemma in different situations, and it becomes
difficult to make a rational decision. This reflection paper aims at exploring the issue of moral
disengagement. Reasons for moral disengagement will be discussed.
What?
From the reading, I understand that people think and act differently when faced with ethical issues.
For one to make a rational decision, an extensive process of judgment is required (Bandura,
Caprara, Zsolnai, 2000). For an individual to be responsible, he or she should put into consideration
the magnitude of the consequences of the actions, social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Justification of a wrong action would be a moral disengagement. Unethical actions always cause
severe consequences to society. Currently, there are cases of cheating and secret use of unwanted
written materials during exam times. They portray unpreparedness and laziness on the part of a
student. It is unethical since it does not show faithfulness and integrity in studies. Teaching from
this material helps me to be dependable and not to be morally disengaged because of diffusion of
responsibility. Unethical conduct can be attributed to the behavior of a particular group. The
teaching is important to me because I have learned on how to be responsible for my actions and
to act ethically even at a student level. The practice of morals at a young age will help me to
remain ethical even at old age.
Lastly, there are emerging issues observed in the media which involve people displaying their
nakedness to the public. Such deeds demonstrate lack of self respect, and there is no particular
individual to blame since it was one provoked by only one victim and other people followed.
Reading from the material provided concerns me that I should practice personal values and ethics
and emphasize on self respect and individual principles. It is important to me that I have learned to
respect myself and not to be controlled by habits.
Now What?

Walmart Audit Fees
The audit fees for these three companies can be compared in numerous ways. First, they can be
compared by their size by looking at the total revenue and total assets. From the revenue standpoint,
Walmart had the largest amount of total revenue but paid the median amount of audit fees. On the
other hand, Microsoft had the least amount of total revenue but paid the highest amount in audit
fees. Also, Apple Inc. had the median amount of revenue but paid the least amount in audit fees.
When looking at the total assets, there is an inverse relationship between the amount of assets and
the audit fees paid. Apple Inc. had the largest amount of total assets but paid the least amount in
audit fees. On the other hand, Microsoft had the least amount of total assets but paid the most in
audit fees. Finally, Walmart had the median amount of total assets and paid the median amount in

some other cliques that did the same as they did not isolate themselves from the rest of high school

This isolation from the rest of the world instills a sense of security within the people and within the
government. They do not have to trust any other nations, nor do they have to rely on any other
nations for anything. Basically, they decide that it would be best for them to work out political
situations by themselves instead of looking to a foreign government as a model to deal with the
situation.
However, this also shows one of the weaknesses of localization. If a nation isolates itself politically
from the rest of the nation, then there is a good chance that they will fall behind with the times;
thus, they may lose face when it comes to their status on the world stage.
Economically, globalization supports the expansion of trade, production, and investments to
markets outside their own. This expansion is apparent when we look at the formation of such
institutions as the European single market, the North American free trade area, the newly emerging
Asian groupings, and the long overdue formation of the World Trade Organization. These
institutions have allowed nations (that accept globalization) to experiment with several different
markets in order to achieve economic gain.
Large corporations now participate in foreign markets instead of remaining within a domestic
market. They know that people are fascinated by the cultures of other races, and they implement
facilities into other nations. For instance, James Rosenau

Relationship Between Self Regulation And Motivation

students to self regulate their learning. Sansone and Thoman reach a conclusion in their research
that made a critical case of the relationship between self regulation and motivation. The purpose of
their argument was to explain the importance the interest experience plays in students maintaining

more motivation towards self regulatory strategy use. They further conclude that motivation and
strategy use are strongly influenced by goal orientation and the outcomes are not just reflective of
stable individual difference . Wolters, Yu, and Pintrich, based on their results, explain that learning
goal orientation promotes motivational beliefs, which in turn led to higher levels of self regulation
when compared to the other goal orientations.
The articles through their conclusions each had their own strengths and weaknesses. Sansone and

Essay On Alhambra
Introduction
Alhambra (Cast Alhambra), the palace and fortress of the Moorish monarchs of Granada is
located on Sabika hill that overlooks the city of Granada in Spain. In Arabic Al Hamra means the
red one so the name Alhambra is probably derived from the colour of the sun dried tapia, or bricks
made of fine gravel and clay, of which the outer walls of the palace are built. Alhambras Islamic
palaces, as we know them today, were built for the last Muslim emirs in Spain and the court of the
Nasrid dynasty. Moorish poets described it as a pearl set in emeralds, an allusion to the colour of
its buildings and the woods around them. Figure 1 the Alhambra Palace

In the Alhambra, a star shape made of rotating squares is also immensely used and the final
impression of a never ending maze leading the eye to numerous geometrical perspectives can be
seen on most of the palace walls.
Arabesque
As mentioned earlier the interlacing decoration and stylised vegetal forms of decorations, these
two combined can be called Arabesque, which by definition means surface decorations based on
rhythmic linear patterns of scrolling and interlacing foliage, tendrils or plain lines, often combined
with other elements. The plant ornamentation in the Alhambra is encouraged by the constant
references to heaven as the garden of happiness. Examples of plants forming large adorning
elements on walls can be seen all around the walls of the Sala de la Barca (Boat Room) in the form
of engraved tree trunks with numerous leaves and fruits. Figure 7 Ceiling of the Sala de la Barca

Mayan Civilization Disappearance
What Cause The Disappearance Of Maya Civilization?
The Maya civilization was an extremely mysterious and glorious ancient civilization. Most of the
Mayans were distributed throughout Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala. Mayans made a brilliant
civilization with the simple implement of production in the Neolithic Age, and they did not have
any metal tools or transportation. They left towering pyramid temples, majestic palaces, and finely
carved stone tablets. They also made many well made pottery and beautiful oblations. They created
an accurate mathematics system and an astronomical almanac system, and a hieroglyphic system,
which has still, not be decoded. As the only civilization that lived in the tropical jungle, instead of
large river valley, it is very strange and attractive that both its rise and decay were very fast. Maya
civilization disappeared and became a mysterious legend. The passion of finding out the answer of
why the Maya ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason of the disappearance was drought. The drought has a regularity that was the same as
the solar cycle. The range of variation of the solar cycle is only about one percent, but it is
enough to make a serious drought of Yucatan peninsula the heart area of Mayan civilization.
Research about the sediments from the lakes in the northern Yucatan peninsula, shows that a high
concentration calcium sulfate settled layer appears back and forth. The reason of formation of
calcium sulfate is a lot of moisture evaporates from the surface, the time interval is about two
hundred years, and it is fit the solar cycle: two hundred and six years. The structure of Mayan
society was very fragile when it faces to drought. Their major crop was corn and is relied on a
constant water source. The rainwater, lake water, river water, and underground water could only
last for eighteen months. The further research expresses that, around 810AD, 860AD and

The Airline Industry
According to ATAG, in 2013, over three billion passengers were carried by the world s airlines
(Facts Figures, 2014). This fact demonstrates how the airline industry is a ubiquitous part of our
lives. Even if a person has never used an airline for personal transportation, they are still likely to
have consumed and/or used an assortment of goods transported by the industry. Still, even with its
major impact on the world around it, inside the airlineindustry, firms must learn to encounter a wide
array of external factors that influence their everyday operations and strategies. These factors can
come from both the general and local environments that surround the industry. Each of these factors
in their own way have an impact on the competitive environment found within the industry.
GENERAL ENVIRONMENT
The general environment consists of six different trends that can have an effect on the strategies a
firm must take to survive in its industry. These six trends are: technological, demographic, cultural,
economic, legal and political, and international (Barney Hesterly, 2016). In the airline industry, this
means things such as fuel price, terroristic threats, and the environmental impact, all of which affect
a firm s strategy choice.
Demographic
As depicted in Chart A in the appendix, disposable income has experienced an overall increase
over the past 10 years (United States Disposable Personal Income, 2015). This means that
individuals have more income to spend

Freedom Speech
By not allowing speech that is racially bigoted or offensive on campus we are sending the
message that that behavior and ideology is not accepted in the public sphere, we are not
allowing it to become a norm, and are thus discouraging and alienating those that want to use
that kind of harmful language. Delgado writes, When social pressures and rewards for racism
are absent.... prejudiced persons may even refrain from discriminating behavior to escape social
disapproval, (148). We can see examples throughout history of how protecting the free speech of
racists and white nationalists has caused injury to marginalized groups. One such example would
be with the court case Village of Skokie v. National Socialist Party of America; in which Nazi s
wanted to hold a peaceful public assembly in the town of Skokie, Illinois, where the majority of
the citizens were of Jewish descent, and at least ten percent were Holocaust survivors (Adams 277).
The Supreme Court of Illinois originally ruled that the Nazi Partywouldn t be allowed to march or
display the swastika, but when the case reached the Court of Appeals it was decided that this
ruling went against the First Amendment. Even though the Court of Appeals agreed that for the
Skokie Villages Jewish community it would be a traumatic experience seeing the Nazi Party s
display, the swastika was considered a form of symbolic speech and therefore was protected
speech (Delgado 134). When we protect hate speech and give white

Teenage Depression
Teen Suicide
Over the past few years teenage depression has drastically increased due to multiple factors such
as peer pressure and bullying. According to Linda Lamb s article Young People Can Suffer From
Depression, Too, The suicide rate among teenagers [today] is about 10 per 100,000 . A handout
from the Health and Human Services Department and National Institute of Mental Health stated, in
the last 25 years, the rate of suicide among teenagers and young adults has increased dramatically.
The awareness of teenage depression has increased and the public are taking steps to reduce it,
however schools and parents can do more to prevent it such as a day of awareness or even so
much as considering the possibility that a teen is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If someone wants help, he or she will get it or ask for it (UC Davis 1). FACT: Depression, which
saps energy and self esteem, interferes with a person s ability or wish to get help (UC Davis 1).
It is an act of true friendship to share your concerns with an adult who can help (DMH 1). No
matter what you promised to keep secret, your friend s life is more important than a promise. So if
you know someone that shows depression symptoms, you re doing them a favor by telling an adult
to get them help.
Linda Lamb s article stated that certain situations can cause depression such as, stress or division in
the family, major problems in school, a breakup with a girlfriend or boyfriend, and dealing with
overlapping conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or substance abuse.
Along with these events, teenagers go through body changes, changes in thoughts, and changes in
feelings. Strong feelings of stress...in new ways influence a teenager s problem solving and
decision making abilities
A lot of people don t understand why teenage depression is more serious than adult depression.
According to Newsweek, depressed teenagers are more reactive to the environment than depressed
adults. In addition, they act irritable. With this, parents usually should not deal with their kid s
depression alone. Most of the time, the teenager will blame the parents if not get irritated with
them. If a parent is trying to deal with a

Nelson Mandela As A Good Role Model Many of the world s notorious, big named and noted stars ranging from superstars to motivational moderators have come to lose most of their luxuries to make the person there are today, one of the members has brought himself up on stage is Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was born on July 18,1918 in Transkei, South Africawho was well known as he came from a Tribal Leader of the Tembu Tribe making him a person of nobility and pompous. Mandela is the rarest of leaders: A person whose influence and moral sway transcends the cause he is most associated with in his case, the appalling apartheid in South Africa, under which he suffered and was imprisoned for a heart breaking 27 years. However, since the abolition of that frightful regime and practice,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Legend, we will never forget the things this man has taught us, and we will never truly comprehend the level of strength that it took for him to endure many of his years! Thank you, Mandela, by Rihanna was an example of how Nelson Mandela has changed people including other celebrities to be better people in life. What so much of the world actively hungers for in its public life, and so very rarely finds, is there in Nelson Mandela leadership with moral force. Are there any others in our day with such exceptional characteristics? I guess not. Nelson Mandela didn t just spread awareness to stop racism and apartheid but also wanted to spread love and kindness among the people of the world as during the UN they asked everyone to take 67 minutes out of their day to aid others. The reason the number 67 was chosen is because Mandela has spent 67 years of his life servicing and helping humanity as a whole, shows how much respect the world gives to Nelson Mandela as not a hero but also as a role model. This was a beautiful message to every person, especially young people, because it is meant to get people to think about others, take part in their communities, and making this world a more humane place to ... • 3. Film Music Critique Essay Mus 355 Music Critique of film Score Action, suspense, love, and drama are all the makings for a great film. None of these key features to a film could have any substance or feeling without the help of music. Composers play a big role for setting the tone of the movie, developing characters, moving along or supporting action, and depicting the time and place the movie is taking place. In the movie Heat, Elliot Goldenthal does just that. Goldenthal was born in NY in 1954 and studied music under John Corigliano and Aaron Copeland. His partner is Julie Taymor and he won an Oscar for the movie Frida which Julie directed. Goldenthal has composed for several films as well as concert halls, theater and dance. He also has written an opera ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This distinguishes his character of the hero, from the other two villain characters. At the end of the movie Robert De Niro s character is trying to escape the country with the girl while Al Pacino s character is right on his tail. There is a moment when De Niro realizes he cannot make it out with the girl and in and unspoken stare he leaves. The music matches the feeling of the moment using long drown out chords creating that sense a wanting and loss. As Pacino chases De Niro through a field the music stops to intensify the action and set up the final scene. The music fades back in shortly before Pacino shoots De Niro. The music carries into a high key riff that is repeated with strings playing four tones slowly behind the keys. The music grows louder adding more instruments such as large cymbals and carries into the credits. Goldenthal s score was replaced in the final scene with Moby s God Moving Over the Face of the Water. Director Michael Mann felt that Moby s music better represented a feeling of relief, that it was over, that Pacino finally got his guy. At the same time the music related the two characters. Opposite from the beginning where the music separated the two, here it connects them demonstrating how they were not that different and had respect and admiration for each ... • 4. Arguments Against Christianity In this paper, I will argue against Christianity being a rational religion because it holds beliefs which are irrational and lack sufficient evidence. First, I will state this position on the premise of words from the Apostles Creed. Second, I will argue that belief in things that humankind does not understand is not a cause for disbelief, rather belief is required for the things humankind does not understand. Lastly, I will respond that belief in the things we do not understand is flawed when argued by a Christian, because the Christian view of humankind s sinful nature does not allow for humankind to define flawlessly what is rational or irrational to believe. All of this means that Christianityis not itself a rational religion, although there may still be a rational religion. The beliefs of Christianity such as the virgin birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ are irrational and lack sufficient evidence. The Apostles Creed reads, I believe in Jesus Christ... ...born of the Virgin Mary... ...On the third day he rose again. First off, from science, hard truth, we know that human beings always have forty six chromosomes (excluding diseases). Each human being received twenty three chromosomes from their mother and twenty three chromosomes from their father. The virgin birth requires us to believe that Jesus Christ had no father, yet still had forty six chromosomes. To believe in the virgin birth is irrational, because a virgin birth is impossible. Second off, the resurrection of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I realized that nowhere in my practice did I provide diagnostic assessments to help me analyze specific areas of success or struggle pertaining to learning objectives within the course. This module showed me how to identify these areas that may need additional support or enrichment. I learned how to collect and compile much more informative data on student knowledge in these areas, and how to use these measures to help improve student learning. My first goal became to develop and acquire a bank of formative assessments and diagnostic questions to better determine each student s prior knowledge of a learning objective and, more importantly, their misunderstandings or misconceptions of that particular learning objective. Students that have difficulty distinguishing between two concepts, or create hybrids of concepts, have partial conceptions. Finally, students that have misinterpreted and internalized prior content have conceptual misunderstandings. If an educator can identify the type of misconception, they can create better tailored instruction. In order to uncover the misconceptions my students had prior to teaching a new learning target, I decided to administer short, diagnostic probes that put emphasis on explanations of their thinking and reasoning (in place of an answer only response). I stressed that this was not graded, instead meant to help me understand their thinking so I could plan, design, and provide instruction that would be much more responsive to their needs. This was the first time I administered a formative assessment prior to a lesson. The first learning target probe (p 135) focused on uncovering any misconceptions prior to teaching theorems about lines, angles, and triangles, such as vertical angles are congruent, measures of interior angles of a triangle sum to 180, and the relationships between the interior and exterior angles of a triangle. Dickinson emerged out of an era in the 1800 s when women were not acknowledged for their diligence and were not given the opportunities to be educated as males were given. Dickinson wrote a total of one thousand seven hundred and seventy five poems including She Sweeps with many colored Brooms , which was written between 1858 and 1861. Dickinson is well known for the themes of her literary works to involve death, love, religion, nature, or eternity. This change is especially prominent during the 1800s and continues to alter to this very day with education policies. Public education first began during the Industrial Revolution. During this crucial time in history, many children were required to get an educationin order to learn the trades of the growing economy and business as opposed to getting hurt in from hazardous machinery. Moreover, with education, the idea of a good society will be further enforced. A good society as defined by Draper and Ramsay (6), is a society that can prosper by giving its citizens basic physical rights such as security and health. Furthermore, a good society should lend its citizens a political voice and give its people access to education that will help they make their own conclusions. Mr. Fakhouri had also explained how this is one of his favorite pieces and just had to have his orchestra perfect, as they did successfully. After a minor wobble of the director stand, a few adjustments and giggles, Symphony No.1 in D major began. The first movement started off with an eerie introduction, with the first two notes morphing into a birdcall as well as main theme but a very magical sound. It made for a very soothing, romantic time. Throughout the piece I felt as if it told a story as most music does, what I came to believe it was a love story. The Allegro begins in the cello with the second Wayfarer song, Ging heut morgen Ubers Feld, (I Walked this Morning over the Field). With a light and happy tone in the beginning as if two lovers had just met, this was the main theme of this movement. Suddenly there was a deep, heavy part maybe one of despair in paradise but that only lasted for a short period as it came to a victorious ending of happily ever after. (Kahn) The second movement Scherzo, gave more of an elegant, royal ball sound. Where the women dress in gowns and the men in tuxedos, while drinking wine and dancing the night away. This movement has the rhythm of the Landler, an Australian folk dance. It conforms to the classic minuet and trio form though Mahler takes the first section beyond the standard repeat structure. The first three notes of the Scherzo and the Trio recall the birdcall theme from the first movement. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That was just one of the many battles fought during the Revolutionary War. Throughout those eight brutal years, many sacrifices were made. Throughout my childhood, I saw the Revolutionary War through the eyes of Annie and Jack in The Magic Tree House. It seemed as if the war was only for a short period of time and there was no blood, pain, or any sort of horrible thing. No longer a five year old, I have noticed the sacrifices made. When a man decided to fight alongside the Patriots, he was not only risking his life, but his family, his slaves, his land, and any other possessions or valuables. Had the colonies lost the war, every member of the army or militia would have been sentenced to death. The weakest and unhealthiest become dinner for those predators and also become a positive thing for the species that only the strongest of the herd will survive and continue to reproduce. Benefits of Predation When a predator makes a kill, it feeds not only them, but other species as well. For example, if there is an elk kill, this will feed other predators like bear, mountain lion, coyotes, eagles and others. Smaller rodents and other scavengers, like ravens will also benefit from a kill. We are predators ourselves we have to kill to eat, just most of us don t do it ourselves, if we are meat eaters. What we don t eat can go to the dogs and feed them. Bacteria and other parasites can also join in on the fun. Other things we don t eat, can go to compost, so there are many ways in which predation benefits the food chain. It definitely feeds various links on the food web. Analysis Of The Poem How Of Tame A Wild Tongue The essay, How to tame a wild tongue written by Gloria Anzaldua is a staggering piece on important social issues such as racism, cultural differences, individuation, and domination. Anzaldua believes that her language is yet the most central and important component for her ethnic identity as a person. If her language is threatened, then her individuality is threatened. She basically responds to the violence she experienced as her character was restricted in this dominating society that she was trying to adapt in. Anzaldua used quotes from various scholars who feel the same way about the society as she did about language, identity, racism, and cultural imperialism. Additionally, her writing was based on personal experience which enriches the essay with credibility since the reader is able to get the experience first handed by the victim of these crimes. Furthermore, as an immigrant myself, I was attracted to this essay because I could relate to many of the topics she covered. I also saw this as a way to compare my experience with hers so I could see how much this society has improved overall. I was gulped in the essay by the use of metaphor in the beginning of the essay which created this interesting curious vibe that grasped my attention. A dentist visit was used metaphorically to describe the struggle between her identity and the society. The doctor symbolized the society, and her tongue represented her identity as it was trying to survive in the restricting society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing the Huxtables with My Family Essay examples Compating the Huxtables with My Family Watching a comedy sitcom like The Cosby Show is a great way to unwind from a stressful day at school. The show s characters are likeable and the storyline is humorous, but halfway through the program I usually turn the television off and return to the kitchen to wash the dinner dishes. Watching The Cosby Show makes me feel guilty. The Huxtables are too perfect. Their house is too perfect. In comparison to the Huxtables I feel like an unfit mother in a slovenly, dysfunctional family. My kids and my husband never discuss their daily plans with me; they enjoy adding a little suspense to my day. Another farfetched scene from The Cosby Show is Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable s mediation of sibling quarrels. When a quarrel begins Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable are usually sitting on the couch with nothing better to do than anticipate a problem. The children come down and rationally explain the problem and their side of the story. If there is any name calling, the children use harmless words like stupid and meanie. Meanwhile Mr. and Mrs. Huxtable serenely listen to each child s point of view. With infinite patience they wisely mediate a truce with a brilliant compromise acceptable to both sides. Everyone is happy; the problem is solved. On the contrary, in my family we do not have quarrels; we have combat situations which erupt at the most inopportune times such as when I m plunging a toilet and my husband is under his car. The National Climactic Data Center reported that, as of June 2012, the average combined global land and ocean temperature was 0.63 degrees Celsius higher than the twentieth century average. This is the fourth highest temperature ever recorded. Many credible sources, such as a number of United Nation bodies, the International Panel of Climate Change, and academic scholars state that climate change cause resource scarcity. A lack of resources can cause an increase in violent ethnic conflicts, and, in dire circumstances, can even bring about crimes against humanity and genocide. If climate change is not real, than the whole argument about climate change causing resource scarcity and violent ethnic conflict is invalid. However, there is a lot of evidence that shows climate change is a real problem. A study by The State of Climate Global Analysis for June 2012 shows that there is evidence for climate change. The temperature of the land and water is above average, and the number of temperature abnormalities continues to rise. Sunga (2014) writes, that CNN reported July 2012 was estimated to have been the hottest month for the continental United States since record keeping began in 1895. (p. 4) A report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned that eleven of the last twelve years (from 1995 2006) were among the twelve warmest years for surface temperature since 1895. It also noted that the ocean has grown to be over 3000 meters deep, and that average snow coverage and mountain glacier mass had declined. After being shown the evidence, one probably thinks that climate change is a reality. However, the fact that climate change exists does not mean that it causes violent ethnic conflict and genocide. Not many studies have been done on a link between climate change and violent ethnic conflict. Yet, there has been growing concern in the international community and academic literature that climate change could have an effect on violent conflict in general. A Madman s Short Story Quod By Lu Xun In 1915, the New Culture Movement was initiated, being accompanied by the ideas mainly aimed at criticising the Confucian traditional values in China, and also approaching a more modern and western mindset. In 1919, a mass protest of over 6000 students was conducted to rebel against the signing of the Versailles Treaty, which would hand over Chinese territorial rights from the Germans to the Japanese and this movement later became known as the May Fourth Movement. One of the significant leaders of this movement who made great contribution, was Lu Xun. As it was mentioned by the professor during the class, it is quite of an unquestionable fact that Lu Xun was a highly influential writer of the New Culture Generation. He often discussed many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The madman is the main character of the short story. However, a question should be raised before any analysis is initiated; Is the madman really mad? In the very beginning of the story, the writer proclaims that he had found out that the madman had suffered from a form of persecution complex . I disagree with this claim because, like what the writer asserted, if what is written on the diary is just the outcome of the illusion caused by persecution complex, the value of the story would be somewhat meaningless. Furthermore, the madman has clear subjectivity and consistency. Hence, the madman is not actually mad. The madman s diary reminded me of a Korean folktale that my mother used to tell me, which is about a man with two eyes visiting a land where everybody is one eyed. The two eyed man who always thought having two eyes is normal, was mocked and called, abnormal for having two eyes. Eventually the two eyed man ended up stabbing one of his own eyes and chose to be one of the one eyed men. From the perspective in regard to this folktale, the madman is actually the one who became conscious of the truth. However, he is not the only one in the story who is aware of the truth. As it is illustrated in the text, there are two types of cannibals; those who believe cannibalism is acceptable because it is their tradition that passed down through multiple generations, and those who realize that cannibalism is wrong but would still maintain it. Their recognition itself that cannibalism is inappropriate is same as that of the madman. However, unlike others who do not make an attempt to break the convention, or tradition (cannibalism), the madman resolutely broke away from the existing convention and expressed his dedication toward breaking the convention and tried to make it happen. I personally think that the madman was rather a representation of the intellectual. In addition, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Causes And Effects Of Unemployment Causes and Effects of Unemployment Travis Epling Strayer University ENG 105 Jeanette Trammel 9/14/14 Causes and Effects of Unemployment There are many reasons for unemployment in the United States and around the world. Some of these causes are created by the individual and others are out of their control. No matter what the cause for unemployment, it has a devastating effect on the individual, family, and economy. Unemployment defined by the Encyclopedia Britannica is the condition of one who is capable of working, actively seeking work, but is unable to find any work. In addition, to define a person as unemployed, the person must be an active member of the labor force in search of work. (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2012)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Monetary Effects Because unemployed people receive benefits from the government, there is a correlation between unemployment and increased government spending. The Employment Act of 1946 gave the government the responsibility of maintaining a high employment level of labor and price stability. The effects of this increased spending for unemployment benefits is that other government programs suffer a loss in their financial support. It also causes a decrease in the growth of the GDP. There are less people working so less goods and services are being produced and with fewer people to spend money in the economy there are less goods and services being purchased. This causes a decrease in demand of products and causes producers to lower their selling price to avoid a surplus. When the producer lowers their selling price, it causes the consumer price index to fall. Social Effects Various social effects spring from the people who are unemployed. They affect both our communities and the unemployed. The skills and knowledge from the unemployed is lost to our economy which keeps our economy from reaching its full potential. There is also an increase in crime and social strife during times of high unemployment. In Arabic Al Hamra means the red one so the name Alhambra is probably derived from the colour of the sun dried tapia, or bricks made of fine gravel and clay, of which the outer walls of the palace are built. Alhambras Islamic palaces, as we know them today, were built for the last Muslim emirs in Spain and the court of the Nasrid dynasty. The plant ornamentation in the Alhambra is encouraged by the constant references to heaven as the garden of happiness. The reason of the disappearance was drought. The drought has a regularity that was the same as the solar cycle. The range of variation of the solar cycle is only about one percent, but it is enough to make a serious drought of Yucatan peninsula the heart area of Mayan civilization. Research about the sediments from the lakes in the northern Yucatan peninsula, shows that a high concentration calcium sulfate settled layer appears back and forth. The reason of formation of calcium sulfate is a lot of moisture evaporates from the surface, the time interval is about two hundred years, and it is fit the solar cycle: two hundred and six years. The structure of Mayan society was very fragile when it faces to drought. Their major crop was corn and is relied on a constant water source. • 44. The Airline Industry According to ATAG, in 2013, over three billion passengers were carried by the world s airlines (Facts Figures, 2014). This fact demonstrates how the airline industry is a ubiquitous part of our lives. Even if a person has never used an airline for personal transportation, they are still likely to have consumed and/or used an assortment of goods transported by the industry. Still, even with its major impact on the world around it, inside the airlineindustry, firms must learn to encounter a wide array of external factors that influence their everyday operations and strategies. These factors can come from both the general and local environments that surround the industry. Each of these factors in their own way have an impact on the competitive environment found within the industry. GENERAL ENVIRONMENT The general environment consists of six different trends that can have an effect on the strategies a firm must take to survive in its industry. These six trends are: technological, demographic, cultural, economic, legal and political, and international (Barney Hesterly, 2016). In the airline industry, this means things such as fuel price, terroristic threats, and the environmental impact, all of which affect a firm s strategy choice. Demographic As depicted in Chart A in the appendix, disposable income has experienced an overall increase over the past 10 years (United States Disposable Personal Income, 2015). Freedom Speech By not allowing speech that is racially bigoted or offensive on campus we are sending the message that that behavior and ideology is not accepted in the public sphere, we are not allowing it to become a norm, and are thus discouraging and alienating those that want to use that kind of harmful language. Delgado writes, When social pressures and rewards for racism are absent.... prejudiced persons may even refrain from discriminating behavior to escape social disapproval, (148). We can see examples throughout history of how protecting the free speech of racists and white nationalists has caused injury to marginalized groups. One such example would be with the court case Village of Skokie v. National Socialist Party of America; in which Nazi s wanted to hold a peaceful public assembly in the town of Skokie, Illinois, where the majority of the citizens were of Jewish descent, and at least ten percent were Holocaust survivors (Adams 277). The Supreme Court of Illinois originally ruled that the Nazi Partywouldn t be allowed to march or display the swastika, but when the case reached the Court of Appeals it was decided that this ruling went against the First Amendment. Even though the Court of Appeals agreed that for the Skokie Villages Jewish community it would be a traumatic experience seeing the Nazi Party s display, the swastika was considered a form of symbolic speech and therefore was protected speech (Delgado 134).
