Workers Creating Their Own Exploitation
In a modern society we are led to believe that there is a fair exchange taking place when
workers(working force?) sells their labour power ( Gary Lapon, 2011.).( define this) Karl Marx
believed that the working class were being exploited through laborious jobs. In today s society
wages are determined by the current cost of living within provinces across Canada. Usually the
wage workers receive do not allow for many to live a comfortable life yet we continue to work
these jobs as they feel we have no other option. This feeling of desperation comes from the term
wage slavery (cite ), where one feels as though they are stuck working a job that makes them
unhappy, so they remain feeling successful or are able to meet the cost of living. As a result of
wage slavery, employees come into work on days that they had previously booked off, are
frightened to call in sick when sick and often take abuse from their boss. Employees are showing
up with their work persona, believing that these low wages are equal when in reality they are not
(S.Enns, 2014) Employers profit from their employees without employees being completely aware
of it. Employers want their workers to produce more and produce it efficiently, without increasing

The life of Stephen Schwartz
Stephen Schwartz is a famous American composer, producer, and creator of music and film. With
a degree in drama, Schwartz was first hired as a producer in his early years. Schwartz was
interested in musical Theater since the early 1970 s when he was famous for three popular shows
on Broadway; Godspell, Pippin, and The Magic Show (The Songwriters Hall of Fame). Stephen
Schwartz accomplishments include winning the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lyrics,

Morbid Taste For Bones
What do A Morbid Taste for Bones and The Man in the Passage have in common? They are both
mysteries. Although both differ considerably in length, plot complexity, and setting, both
accompany a sacerdotal sleuth as he solves a felonious offense. Despite their label, many doubt if
these two mysteries are gripping enough to entrance the reader into reading the story to the end.
What makes a mystery novel worth reading? Because the word worth is an analogous term, I will
state my meaning to avoid confusion. When I asked what makes a story worth reading, I asked
whether the reader considers it fascinating enough to continue to voluntarily read the book for the
sole purpose of enjoyment. There are many ways that a mystery story can be worth... Show more

By disdaining an omniscient viewpoint, not only does the mystery writer abstain from giving
too much information to the reader too early on, but also allows the conflict to persist however
long the author desires until the climax and resolution at the end of the book. If the mystery
writer decided to either use an omniscient viewpoint or change viewpoints often, it would
become increasingly hard for him to cloak a plausible plot, since doing so would almost
inevitably eliminate possible suspects, pointlessly disrupt the detective s search, and allow the
reader to discover information which frankly the detective would probably never discover for
himself. Thus, the single perspective of the detective is the only one needed. In A Morbid Taste
for Bones, the reader only learns what Brother Cadfael himself learns, and often even less, since
sometimes some of Cadfael s major thoughts or actions are omitted until the resolution of the book
in an effort to retain the greatest amount of suspense and ignorance possible for as long as
possible. The Man in the Passage s point of view is very similar, since the reader is only able to
experience what Father Brown experiences. Furthermore, although Father Brown hints multiple
times that he could

Ability Grouping Stereotypes
Over and over again in research conducted about ability grouping the reference of teacher s
preconceived stereotypes about students. Students are placed into selected ability groups based on
behavior, gender, age, and unwarranted perception. Research has shown us that actual fair data or
lack of is over looked when students are placed in ability groups. Teachers must become aware of
their bias and not let them dictate the ability of a student. Personal instinct should not be thrown out
of the equation when evaluating students. Teacher experience and training should never be
overlooked. However, students must be given ample amount of time to prove their capability.
Student progress must be recognized if a remedial group and allowed to change the ability group if
warranted. Research has shown ways to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to close the gap curriculum being instructed needs to be similar and equal. A remedial
class is meant to catch up a student academically. However they cannot be expected to succeed in a
general or honors course if they lack the same basic content that is being taught in those courses.
Students regardless of ability group should receive the same quality and level of instruction and
content. Ability grouping is meant to differentiate instruction, not give more content to one student
and not to the other. In the literature review it was mentioned that schools are going to an open
course enrollment. This allows students and parents to decide if they want to enroll in honors or
advance placement level course. Students are still to meet prerequisites for the course but are no
longer susceptible to teacher bias, or past academic performance. Open course enrollment allows
students the chance to break the academic track they were on and jump onto a track that allows
them to take courses that gets them college

Texas Environmental Regulations
In my opinion we have to have environmental regulations to sustain the environment we have
today. Many people claim that these regulations restrict business which I think is true and so
does Melanie J. Martin in one of her articles she states Businesses may see certain environmental
laws in a negative light if they must adapt their practices and increase spending to comply with
regulations. And if a company is struggling to make it by as it is I don t think they will survive
after paying out of pocket to comply with new regulations. The laws we have in place today in
Texas I think get the job done and their not to extreme.
I have read that some people believe getting rid of some environmental regulations will boost the
economy but author Stephen M. Meyer doesn t believe so in his article he states ... anecdotes about

Ethos Pathos And Logos
A parent will never know what goes on in the mind of their child, all a parent can do is shield the
child from the negatives of life and hope negativity never enters their mind. Author Bruno
Bettelheim wrote The Uses of Enchantment, published in 1976, the book contains an essay called
Fairy Tales and the Existential Predicament, in which Bettelheim presents a psychological
perspective of the impact that traditional fairy tales have on children. Bettelheim begins his essay
with personal knowledge, rhetorical appeals (pathos and, logos) and textual evidence. In his essay,

originating in our primitive drives and our violent emotions are all denied in much of modern
children s books literature, and so the child is not helped in coping with them. But the child is
subject to desperate feelings of loneliness and isolation, and he often experiences moral anxiety

negative words and displaying modern day literature as useless to a child s development, and may

Iran Nuclear Deal Pros And Cons
I am writing to you in reference to the current national debate regarding the safety of the Iran
Nuclear Deal. Since the conclusion of World War II, a primary goal of US foreign policy has been
nuclear deterrence. However, the inevitability of technological advancement, has resulted in the
production and perfection of a powerful nuclear armament by nine different nations. The US and
our allies, have worked tirelessly to prevent the continued proliferation of nuclear weapons
primarily attempting to prevent countries such as Iran from procuring this technology. Under the
Obama administration, the US engaged in extensive negotiations, which culminated with the
ratification of the Iran Nuclear Deal in the summer of 2015. In short, this Deal lifts... Show more

At this point, the US had few options in which to prevent the continued advancement of the
Iranian nuclear program. However, the deal reached by the Obama administration, whose support
extends to the world s leading powers, significantly extends the time Iran would need to develop a
nuclear weapon and ensures that we have ample time to counteract any attempt at restarting the
Nuclear program. In addition, the US has made it clear that if Iran does violate the terms of the
deal, sanctions will be reimposed and more aggressive options could be taken. This deal is far
from perfect and there are legitimate concerns raised by its many critics. That being said, without
this deal, Iran could quickly double its capacity to enrich uranium and move towards producing a
bomb. One of the greatest criticism raised, is that the deal and provisions will expire. While some
are only in place for 10 25 years, the fundamental principle of the deal to preserve the peaceful
nature of its nuclear program are permanent. Unfortunately, neither military action, sanctions or this
deal for that matter can guarantee that Iran will never have in their possession a weapon of mass
destruction. However, this deal is

Essay on Pepsi In Cuba
How attractive to PepsiCo is the proposal to buy 30% of Deltex for 1.1B pesos (US$360M)?
Based on the information in the case, Pepsi could invest US$360 million in exchange for 30%
equity of Deltex. So we have to calculate the value of 30% equity of Deltex. First, we calculated
the discount factor by using average unlevered beta of US independent bottlers, US 10 year
Treasury bond as risk free rate and assuming market risk premium 10%. We came up with 9.83% of
WACC. Next, we calculated Deltex free cash flowand terminal value and then converted them
into US dollar value. Now with WACC and total cash flow, we had NPV of the company. So we
deducted current debt from NPV and came up with the value of US$360M investment equal to

It had increased its market share to about 50% in each of its regional markets and remained
highly profitable. Deltex was also one of the few Pepsi bottlers in Mexico whose share had risen
since the 1960s.
b.Deltex was in the most populated region in Mexico. Densely populated and allowed centralized
access to a large number of potential customers. It was a market that Pepsi could not miss.
c.Pepsi distribution system had become inefficiency and fragmented and lacked scale advantages.
It needed to consolidate its bottling group, to build new packaging capacity and expand new
territorial scope. Deltex could help Pepsi to achieve this goal. It already had 88,000 points of sales,
and owned subsidiaries which manufactured plastic bottles, bottle caps, containers and packaging
materials.
d.Deltex s president Adolfo Sanchez had the expertise of the industry know how knowledge. He
was a bottler by profession and knew the Mexican bottling business well. He also had developed
strategies to modernize the production lines and promotional campaigns.
Downsides
a.Pepsi s US$360M investment was too expensive. Based on our calculation, this investment was
worth almost 60% of Deltex equity. However, in the proposal, Pepsi would only receive 30% of
Deltex equity.
b.Pepsi might not be able to organize and control the Deltex joint venture in the same way as were
with previous two joint ventures since Sanchez wanted to remain in control of the

Mind Brain By John Searle Summary
In his essay, Minds, Brains, and Computers, John Searle attempts to prove that Strong AI does not
exist. He still believes that there is some merit to weak AI, as a means for understanding how
certain elements of the brain function, but using computers as a way of not only mimicking the
brain but actually being a mind. The most concrete example that Searle used in support of his claim
was that computers cannot understand, and he demonstrated this through the Chinese Room
experiment. In the Chinese Room Experiment, a person can functionally answer questions in a
language that they do not understand, as long as they are given the tools to match certain words to
words that they understand in their native language. In this experiment the subject

Molarity Lab Report
The concept investigated in this lab was the relationship between absorbance and concentration, or
molarity. This relates to the guiding question, How could you make 1 liter of Pirate Purple #2
dye? , because in order to create more dye, you must obtain an equation from the graph to calculate
the amount, in grams, of blue and red dye that must be mixed to create the certain shade of purple.
The molarity of a substance is the amount of moles per one liter of liquid that it contains. A solution
is a mixture that contains two or more substances. A solute is one substance that is dissolved in
another substance, while a solvent is the matter that the solute is dissolved in. When plotted on a

The Effects Of Russian Culture On Military Operations
The Effects of Russian Culture on Military Operations in That Region
Introduction
Understanding a country s culture as it pertains to military operations is highly important in the
modern era. Dictionary.com defines culture as the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a
particular social, ethnic, or age group . There are many examples throughout history that show the
negative consequences of ignoring or misunderstanding the cultures of other countries. The most
recent example is our long sustained operations in the Middle East. We have operated in the
Middle East for the better part of two and a half decades. Through our own successes and failures,
it is obvious how important cultural awareness can be. The mistakes we have made have created
more animosity towards our military and our country in general. Over the last decade, our
government has worked continuously to understand and teach those lessons to our service
members. Through those efforts, we have been able to win over many of the hearts and minds that
we lost during the early part of the 1990 s and 2000 s. Continuing these practices in the future, with
countries such as Russia, will allow us to overcome many of the mistakes and problems we have
encountered in the past.
This paper is the culmination of my own personal thoughts and in no way reflects any official
views or opinions of the United States government. As you move from topic to topic, I hope you

Global governance institutions, from the International...
Global governance institutions, from the International Monetary Fund to the World Trade
Organization, are little loved. They are often perceived as bastions of sclerotic mediocrity at best
and outright corruption at worst. In the wake of the 2008 financial crash, Daniel W. Drezner, like
so many others, observed the smoking ruins of the global economy and wondered the extent to
which global governance institutions have affected the post recession, international system.
In The System Worked, Drezner contends that despite the massive scale and reverberations of this
latest crisis (larger, as he argues, than those that precipitated the Great Depression), the global
economy has bounced back remarkably well. Examining the major resuscitation ... Show more

Conceptually, Denzer appears to conflate the phases of violence, discrediting the belief that
violence transpires through stages. In a Denzerian world, the international system is bifurcated
between violence and nonviolence. In his assessment of financial resilience through public
sentiments, Denzer s overinvestment in evidence that measures peace through actual violence
versus potential violence discredits various disputes that have escalated diplomatically, but have
yet to turn violent. Denzer supposes that all liberalizing change must involve varying degrees of
violence, ipso facto breaching a threshold of peace. Denzer profoundly overlooks the generally
peaceful regime changes in Egypt and Tunisia, which, like so many others, were predominantly led
by civil disobedience, civil resistance, and online activism, rarely intensifying into violent
demonstrations. Denzer s assessment also misses cold or still conflicts, whose underlying causes
and historic underpinnings have surfaced amid the ever competitive, protectionist nature following
Great Recession. Take for example China and Japan s diplomatic clash over the contested Senkaku
Islands. For four decades, Chinese and Japanese grievances have been reshaped in light of new
regional expectations and financial conditions. In Japan s case, the

Ancient Greek Constellations
Have you ever had one of those days where you d take a nice walk in the night time and just gaze
into the night sky, and when you look up you see a bunch of beautiful stars. Well, if you have taken
a closer look you may have noticed that the stars have patterns that create images called
constellations. Constellationsare a group of stars that are connected together to represent
mythological images of animals and objects from the past that is located in the celestial sphere1, 3.
They were mainly discovered by the early people, primarily used as references to coordinate
directions, measure time, predict farming seasons, and for religious studies3. According to the

As constellations move about one degree per day, they complete a 360 degrees circular motion
in a year, making them return back to the same position as they were the year before3. As
mentioned earlier the rotation of constellations depends on where you look and your location. For
instance, a person who looks up North would tend to realize that the constellations are rotating in
the counterclockwise direction around the north celestial pole, which is beside Polaris3. The
explanation to why it seems like the constellations are rotating counterclockwise is because the
earth spins from west to east, meaning that it is rotating to the right, while the stars and
constellations above, moves from east to west3. In contrast, those who face the south, will see the
stars rotate clockwise3. For a person who is facing the east will see the stars rise in the front of
them and set behind, while a person who faces the west will see the stars rise behind and set in
front of them3. Though constellations travel from East to West like the planets, people from
different parts of the world will have a different standpoint on the movements of the constellations.
Now that we have an understanding of constellations, lets take a look at a few notable ones, starting

W.B. Yeats Adam s Curse Essay
W.B. Yeats Adam s Curse Though written only two years after the first version of The Shadowy
Waters , W.B. Yeats poem Adam s Curse can be seen as an example of a dramatic transformation
of Yeats poetic works: a movement away from the rich mythology of Ireland s Celtic past and
towards a more accessible poesy focused on the external world. Despite this turn in focus towards
the world around him, Yeats retains his interest in symbolism, and one aspect of his change in
style is internalization of the symbolic scheme that underlies his poetry. Whereas more
mythological works like The Shadowy Waters betray a spiritual syncretism not unlike that of the
Golden Dawn, Adam s Curse and its more realistic fellows offer a view of the... Show more content

The first stanza may be read on an exoteric level as an equating of the roles of the poet and the
woman. The poet s stitching and unstitching (6) can be seen as a feminine labour, the production
of the text as equal to that of the textile: such that though one knows that the product is a labour
of much work and time, it can all be apprehended at once, as a finished work. The instanteity of
such work makes both the poet seem an idler by the noisy set/ Of bankers, schoolmasters, and
clergymen/ The martyrs call the world (12 14). The work of the poet and the woman are thus set
against the works of the world, as spiritual labours comparable to the efforts martyrs put forth in
their obstinate quests for salvation. To articulate sweet sounds together (10) is thus equivalent to
the work of weaving, of composing the golden net of fate woven by the Ever living in The
Shadowy Waters . Later in Adam s Curse Yeats extends the conflation of the poet and the woman

Discuss The Impact Of Divorce On Children
According to Virginia Rutter, there has been an ongoing argument of whether or not divorce is a
good thing (Rutter 159). An argument is made that the decline of the impact of divorce on children
is due to the number of children involved, decreasing from 1.34 children to less than one child
(Rutter 159). However, the statement of the impact of divorcebeing lessened due to less children
being caught in the middle appears to be intellectually disingenuous. Regardless of their being less
children, the children that are involved from the divorce will still be impacted greatly. Nevertheless,
Rutter is correct in saying that there are some sets of circumstances where divorce is the better
option. When my father divorced my mother, they decided that

The use of information systems allows these businesses to obtain a significant advantage and
ensures the market remains competitive and opens several job opportunities. The advantages
depend upon the particular business how they utilizes the information technology. One method of
utilizing information technology is building and supporting networks for the small enterprises. This
is especially useful for those business that are at a geographical disadvantage being based in rural
and semi suburban areas. These remote areas are less exposed and often left behind as technology
improves at a rapid pace. Other businesses that find advantages in the use of information technology
are those in developing countries. Similar to rural businesses, until urban sprawl appears, these
areas are severely lacking in technology and information technology ensures these businesses
remain with the pack. Another method of utilizing information technology is the assimilation on
information technology in these businesses to increase productivity and improve the efficiency of
business transactions. The inherent strengths of these business are elevated to a higher standard,
tying in to keeping competitiveness strong. The internet, still a relatively new information

Social Problems In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451
When predictions about life are made, it is hard for one to believe them because they are not
certain if those predictions will happen or not. However, when predictions that were made in the
past begin to happen in the life of a person living in today s world, they must be believed. In 1953,
Mr. Ray Bradburywrote one of his famous novels, Fahrenheit 451, which was written predicting a
future overtaken by technology. Even though it was not very obvious at that time, this novel was
very successful in examining social problems in its time and in our time as well in various ways.
Some of the social problems in the 1950s that are examined in the novel include the red scare,
communism, and McCarthyism. In our present day, the social problems that are examined in that
same novel include overuse of technology and media.
According to Yohuru Williams, the government would investigate and interrogate people to see if
they are loyal to the US or if they are communists (Red Scare (1)). Even though it might be
unbelievable, it happened to Ray Bradbury. According to Alison Flood, Ray Bradbury was
investigated by the FBI during the 1950s, with government agents interviewing his peers and
putting him under surveillance before concluding that despite being critical of the US government
in his writing, the celebrated writer was never a member of the Communist party (Ray Bradbury
Investigated for Communist Sympathies (1)). Because of his being critical of the government in
his novels, it

Higher Education For International Students
Higher education in the UK has probably become one of the most popular choices for international
students. The study devoted into the experiences of the international students report that the
phenomenon of culture shock as a part of challenges could be troubling them (UKCISA, 2008).
Whereas, the students who come from developing countries responded that the higher education in
the UK would extend work field as well as the effect of social cognition (Mazzarol and Soutar,
2002).
Hence, it will be discussed in this essay whether opportunities outweigh the challenges by analyzing
the phenomenon, reasons and drawing the conclusion.
2.0The opportunities for international students
In the UK, a pluralistic country, there is diversified culture promoting to the cultural
communication. Over 60% of the survey respondents reported their agreement that the UK was a
tolerant society, with more than on in 10 (12%) indicating strong agreement. (Schweisfurth and Gu,
2009) Not only possibly could it broaden horizons of the international students, but also improve
their learning skills.
2.1Broaden horizons through multicultural society
Multicultural means including multiple people who have varying manners and faiths (Cambridge
dictionaries online). In 2004, UKCOSA did a survey was reported that over 50% of respondents
looked forward to getting more opportunities to experience the culture in UK (UKCOSA, 2004).

When We Save Every Memory We Forget Which Ones Are Special...
The world we live in today has a saying If you didn t take pictures, it was like you were never
there. The passage When We Save Every Memory, We Forget Which Ones Are Special, by Dara
Horn, describes how technology has made it easy for everyone to save any and almost every
memory through social media. People might want to capture every memoryfor the fear of being
forgotten or for the fact that they will be able to look back on every memory of their lives. A
problem with people saving every memory of their lives is that when you look back at them, it
will be hard to distinguish the treasured memories from the trash because of the huge amounts of
captured memories. I believe that the idea presented here is that the abuse of modern technology
has driven us to try to show ourselves to the world through social media, making the photo of
ourselves more like a resume rather than actual memories we cherish. It s like having an
abundance of best friends, once that special friendship is expanded to many it loses it s value. The
idea as I understand it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Behavioral Treatments For Substance Use Disorders
Despite advances in pharmacotherapies over the last few decades, behavioral treatments remain an
important component, and often the only evidenced based component, for the treatment of various
substance use disorders. Among those with the strongest level of empirical support from
randomized clinical trials are 1) contingency management, where abstinence or other targeted
outcomes are reinforced with incentives (Higgins et al., 1991; Petry, 2006), 2) cognitive behavioral
therapy, which teaches specific strategies and skills to reduce substance use (Carroll et al., 1994),
and 3) motivational interviewing, where a specific, nonjudgmental interviewing style is used to
enhance motivation and harness the patient s capacity for change (Hettema et al., 2005; Miller,
1985). However, despite the established efficacy of behavioral treatments for substance use
disorders, their widespread efficacy is hampered by the considerable cost and resources needed for
successful implementation. Thus, more efficient ways to implement behavioral treatments are
needed and in an effort to do so, it is important to better understand how and when the treatments
work. This information can then be used to maximize the effects and develop a more targeted
approach. One strategy is through understanding the cognitive mechanisms underlying the
effectiveness of behavioral treatments, which can ultimately be used to develop cognitive
enhancement based interventions to supplement standard behavioral therapies.

The Jilting Of Granny Weatherall
Common among classic literature, the theme of mortality engages readers on a quest of coping
with one of the certainties of life. Katherine Anne Porter masterfully embraces the theme of
mortality both directly and indirectly in her story, The Jilting of Granny Weatherall. Understanding
that all mankind ultimately becomes subject to deathunleashes feelings of dread and anxiety in most
people; however, Granny Weatherall transitions from rushing to meet her demise in her sixties to
completely denying she is on her deathbed when she is eithty. Readers have seen this theme of
mortality reverberated over and over in literature, but what makes this story stand the test of timeis
the author s complexity. In Katherine Anne Porters The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, the important
and overarching theme of mortality can be found throughout the story s many complex characters,
detailed plot, and surprising plot points.
Porter utilizes several characters to driving her theme of mortality; such as Granny Weatherall, Dr.
Harry, and Cornelia. The most interesting ideas on mortality surround the main character, Granny
Weatherall. Her character stops living life to the fullest at a young age when she is jilted at the
altar by her lover. This tragic event kills something inside her, though she is determined to prove
she is not affected by the event. A state of denial becomes her strongest characteristic as she denies
her mortality throughout most of the story by talking about and

The Six Cultural Differences Of Barbie In China
Introduction
Mattel attempted to incorporate Barbie into China by opening a Barbie store. The business failed
due to Mattel not researching the market and how to incorporate the products into the Chinese
market. There are many cultural differences that Mattel needed to take into consideration before
they attempted to bring Barbie to China. Problems Mattel Faced
According to Wang (2012), Mattel did not fully understand what Chinese girls and women wanted
from a doll. Femininity is different in China compared to what it can be defined as in the United
States. Mattel opened a large store in Shanghai that not only had Barbie dolls, but also
accessories and activities for consumers such as a runway and dressing rooms. The Barbie doll
was not an icon in China like it has become in the United States and the store suffered because the
relevance of Barbie and associated products was not a part of what the Chinese girls wanted. Six
Cultural Issues and Mattel Performance
Values and Attitudes
The Chinese people want to have relationships with possible business partners before they do
business with them. The Chinese believe in socializing and getting to know people as a way to
see what type of person they will be dealing with. This is called guanxi (Firoz, Nadeem M.
Topchaya, Olga, 2016). Chinese businesses will not focus on efficiency and view change as
disruptive to their business. When Mattel brought the Barbie store into Shanghai, the Chinese
people did not know Mattel and how Mattel would be conducting business in their city. This caused
uncertainty and Chinese people not knowing if they wanted to do business with Mattel.
Dress codes
Chinese women tend to dress more conservatively. Chinese women often do not wear midriff shirts
or plunging necklines, but tend to wear clothes that do not accentuate their body and curves(Aaker
Schmitt, 2001). Barbie is known to have curves and tight fitting clothing that more fits the western
culture.
Marketing styles differences
When marketing in China you need to focus on the consumers getting to know the product before
placing it in stores or opening a new business. The Barbie store opened in a single location in a
large country which could be

Argumentative Essay On Diesel Engines
Whenever people think of diesel engines, they imagine black soot pouring out of a big rig on the
interstate. While that has been correct in the past, the technology is arriving that changes people s
thoughts to that of a more ecologically friendly. Ever since Rudolf Diesel created the diesel
engine, it has been written off as a smelly, inefficient, and dirty way of converting fossil fuels into
power. Diesel noticed how the steam engines of the times were wasting 80 90% of the fuel they
burn, making them very inefficient. After learning about how inefficient typical gas or steam
engines were, he dedicated himself to create a clean burning engine. In the beginning, the
stereotypes were completely accurate, but those same adjectives are simply incorrect in today s
times. These constant put downs by environmentalist are often uneducated and generalized by the
small number of older, inefficient trucks that are still on the road. The modern diesel engineis an
absolute marvel when it comes to the fuel efficiency, power output and societal benefits. While the
light duty diesel pickup may be loud and intimidating, the benefits they provide society are vastly
underappreciated and need to be more thoroughly recognized.
Diesel trucks are literally cooler than gas trucks, they are a colder running motor and the explosion

Conflict And Conflict In The Bottom Billion By John Collier
In The Bottom Billion by Collier, he persuasively explains the reasons unindustrialized countries
are developing at low rates. In addition, Collier proposes policies in an effort to get away from the
sluggishness. Even though Collier has emphasized on the geopolitical affairs in the developing
countries, there are shortcomings in his highlights. Collier does not take into account the historical
context of those countries. Collier too does not take into consideration the role of Western countries
in those four traps and the gaps in the available statistics about the poor countries. It is evident that
Collier utilizes information from discussions he had with African leaders rather than taking a
broader view of other people who have had experiences in those countries. Nonetheless, Collier has
presented a strong piece in his book The Bottom Billion.Collier also outlines four traps that are the
cause of the stagnation of the poorest countries, which include; increased conflict, the supply of
natural resources, and the characteristic of being landlocked, and poor governance.
Notably, conflict is the first trap cited by Collier. Increased conflict can be attributed to civil wars
in Africa. Thus, conflict impedes growth due to the costs associated with the civil wars. A
significant percentage of the citizens of the poorest countries have experienced civil wars. Collier
recommends the use of military forces to intervene in civil wars and restore order within those
countries.

Syer Connolly (1996) describes a team system as a group of people who constitute a system of
interrelated entities and whose members share a common goal. They argue that team members need
to develop awareness of themselves and each other, and of their differences, through giving
descriptive feedback. This allows appreciation of differences, good contact and improved

Agreement and consensus is largely formed among the team, who respond well to facilitation by

Commitment and unity is strong. The team may engage in fun and social activities. The team

Capital Punishment Is A Form Of Punishment
Capital Punishment is a form of punishment used to put criminals to death for certain serious
crimes. Capital Punishment has been around for many years in different variations by putting an
individuals to death, because many people are afraid to die. However, over the years problems
have risen about the ethical issues on whether killing someone in terms of a punishment is ethical
or unethical. Therefore, since the death penalty is within the states, some states decided to opt out
of being a death penalty state. The states that decided to remain as a death penalty state were those
who crimeand murderrates are continually increasing over the years; however, the states that
decided to opt out have low crimes rates and sees imprisonment as deterrence rather than death.
The state of Kentucky is one of the states within the United States who still support the death
penalty. On January 1, 1975 the death penalty was reinstated within the state of Kentucky.
However, issues on whether putting someone to death is immoral and has become a leading topic

would enforce the task force to review all possible outcomes on whether capital punishment deters
crime and is applied fairly, also is capital punishment still accepted within the society we live in
today. After reviewing the bill that was proposed, Rep. Jesse Crenshaw, a former prosecutor who

The currency of India has been falling much recently against the dollar, as the risk adverse global
investors start getting worried about the deficits, as efforts are being made by the central bank to
stem the slide of the currency. According to Fact Set data, the rupee hit 54.44 against the dollar, in
December, 2011. According to the analyst, it is expected that the rupee may continue to weaken
further, as Eurozone jitters dovetail with the raising worries on the slow growth rate, fiscal deficits

Who Is Winston Smith A Hero
The journey of a hero usually begins with downfall and ends with success. However, with
Winston it is the other way around, his journey starts at success and ends with downfall. But that
shouldn t unqualify him from being a hero. Winston Smith is the hero of the novel because he
shows courage, and has a strong mentality and he continuously looks past limitations. He basically
was willing to do anything for what he believed in, an example of this could be when he made a
promise to O Brien saying that he was going to do anything for the brotherhood even if it meant he
had to hurt children.
Winston could not defeat the Party, however he makes small acts which rebel against the party
and by doing this he is trying to be a leader to show the other members of the party that something
needs to be done. He still proves that he is a questing hero through his courage, strong mentality
and his ability to look past his limitations.
Even though Winston did do some bad like telling setting the rats on Julia because of his fear and
suddenly loving Big Brother at the end, which most people consider hypocritical. But why not
look at the positive? He repeatedly wrote down with Big Brother , and he went about his love
affair with Julia which by the way he barely knew. He tries and see the party for what it is, and of
course it certainly wasn t any good, he thinks very much and philosophies a lot, but that certainly
does not make his live better. He s a hero because he cares about the people who he sees around
him, and he tries to help them in the best way he can considering the fact that his health isn t so
good. Just imagine what he was going through it must ve been extremely hard to mentally be going
against something or someone when everyone else who surrounds supports them or the ideas that
they represent.
A quote where Winston shows courage is The first step had been a secret, involuntary thought; the
second had been opening that diary. He had moved from thoughts to words, and now from words
to actions . He had the courage to attempt a dangerous path but it was unintentional. A quote where
he shows that he has a strong mentality is; I think I exist, he said wearily. I am conscious of my
own identity. I was

Ultimately, in 1990, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of
surfactants in neonates. Since then, surfactant therapy is considered as one of the few treatments
that has reduced general mortality in preterm newborns with RDS. On the basis of production,
surfactant is divided into two types: natural and synthetic (Roger Soll et al. 2001). The meta
analysis of number of smaller studies comparing synthetic and natural surfactants have shown that
synthetic surfactants with their slower response might be supported for prophylaxis use, whereas
natural surfactants with their fast response might be more suitable for very sick infants at danger of
barotraumas and pulmonary air leaks (Richard A et al,2014). A meta analysis comparing the
effectiveness of prophylactic vs. selective exogenous surfactant administration, carried out by Rojas
Reyes et al., 2012 showed that prophylactic administration reduces the rate of pneumothorax,
pneumonic interstitial emphysema, neonatal mortality and death to more marked extent than
specific treatment (Rojas Reyes et al., 2012). Comparing the meta analysis of six randomized
controlled trails (RCTs) on the benefits of early ( 2 hours) and delayed ( 2 hours) surfactant
administration, (Richard playka et al., 2002). It has been deduced that early selective surfactant
administration to infants with RDS requiring assisted ventilation leads to a reduced risk of acute
pulmonary injury and a decreased risk of

given a day in her honor. May 28, the day of her death, should be celebrated each year as Angelo

no matter what challenges they might face they will get though them. Maya Angela is like a bud

I been doing is watching the news. The Gov. has been using the confiscated phones to track down

they won t have to deal with the Gov. rules anymore. Me and my familywould do the same but we

Accomplishments Of Marion Barry
Though Marion Barry faced many obstacles, he was able to change the black community in
several ways. Even though many people judged him for previous mishaps, he had many hopes
and concerns for African Americans. Born in Mississippi in 1936, his father died when he was
a child, where he then moved to Memphis Tennessee in 1940. The third out of ten children,
Marion and his siblings worked multiple jobs at a young age to help family make ends meet;
jobs included delivery boy, picking cotton, and bagging groceries. Experiencing culture shock
moving from a rural area to an urban area, adapting to the city life was a challenge. Gaining

mercy. Surviving several near death experiences and repercussions, 1983 was the beginning of
his stormy weather. Being accused of using cocaine was only the start of the notorious This is it
scandal. The FBI put together a sting operation where they found him with several women other
than his wife on multiple occasions. He was also caught on video smoking crack cocaine at a
hotel with his former girlfriend. Barry was investigated for 6 years for suspicion of illegal drug
possession; he was arrested on January 18, 1990 for possession of crack cocaine. During his
trial, his lawyer claimed that he used cocaine occasionally but was only convicted of one of the
14 charges that were filed against him. Barry later appeared on MSNBC s Daily Rundown
claiming that he never smoked cracked, simple as that, there was no proof. One juror also said that
he believed that the government was out to get him. At the end of trial, the mayor was sentenced to

Pompeii Essay
This will be a research report on Pompeii, how it was affected by the eruption of Vesuvius and
how it was designed. Pompeii was a town in Italy and would soon to become disrupted by many
disasters, and an even bigger event to follow. The eruption of Vesuvius would terrify shock and
kill thousands of people living in the town, perhaps only a handful of townsfolk had survived that
fateful day. Many tried to escape the ash, hiding in house corners, believing that they would be
safe, or running towards the shores where boats were located, but the majority of people had died
on that day. Pompeii, a medium sized town, was located about ninety miles south of Rome. Pompeii
was founded in six hundred B.C. in front of Mount Vesuvius, which stood approximately six
thousand, five hundred feet from the ground into the air. Apparently, nobody in the town was well
aware that Vesuvius was an active volcano; they didn t even know that it was a volcano until the
huge eruption of Vesuvius, leaving thousands to die. Pompeii is located on a plateau that was
created by lavaflow from volcanoes around the area, then hardening to create a rock substance.
The city of Pompeii was built from north to south, Vesuvius being on the north end of the town.
Vesuvius offered rich, fertile land that was suitable for growing healthy vegetation, then would be
harvested and sorted out to eat later. Southwards of Pompeii gently flowed, the river of Sarnus, this
river was very crucial towards the economic life

Similarities Between Equality And Inequality
The social issue of equality and inequality, has dated back to the beginning of time. Although there
is no way to find out, would one really think that cavemen would not fight about who got the most
food? Even children would argue if someone else has more crayons, or more toys. Everyone has
demanded equalityat least once in their lifetime. Unfortunately inequalityoccurs more often than
equality, and this will never change. Race, sex, and religion are the three main points that occur
most often in today s society. If someone were to turn on the news, they would more than likely
see global issues on race, sex, religion, and their fight for equality. I will be discussing the
similarities and differences of equality and inequality through race, sex, and religion.
When someone thinks about the similarities of equality and inequality in a social setting, they
might think that there are none. In fact, there are many similarities, and the main one is humans.
Humans either have equality, or they do not have it, and want it. Usually people have more
courage in a group, rather than alone. This is also a similarity with equality and inequality. It is
often groups that rightfully raise the issue of an inequality between themselves and the rest of
society (Gosepath). The rest of society that Gosepath is referring to, is people who have equality,
which connects equality and inequality. The first similarity of equality and inequality is race. Both
sides deal with all kinds of people

Effects of Columbian Exchange Essay
The Effects of the Columbian Exchange It was the year 1492, and a man by the name of
Christopher Columbus set sail from Spain where he then landed in the present day Americas,
sparking one of the most important events in the world, the Columbian exchange. The Columbian
exchange has shaped the world to what it is today with the exchange of goods from the Old World
to the New World, and vice versa. The Columbian exchange caused numerous short and long term
effects in the Americas and many other parts of the world. The short term effects of the Columbian
exchange included the outbreak of disease, which led to a sudden drop in the population of the
indigenous peoples. In the beginning of the sixteenth century Spanish and Portuguese... Show more

The foods that were brought back to the Old World such as, potatoes and corn proved a vital and
necessary resource to the Europeans. Another short term effect of the Columbian exchange was
the migration of African slaves to the Americas. The majority of the Africans that were enslaved
were caught in village raids or were war captives. They were caught by other Africans and sold
to the European slave traders for money and other prized possessions. For slaves, the voyage
known as the Middle Passage was a terrifying and perilous journey, with a death rate potentially
as high as 50%. The long term effects of the Columbian exchange included the swap of food,
crops, and animals between the New World and Old World, and the start of the transoceanic
trade. In order to produce a profit, Portuguese explorers were the first to established sugar cane
plantations in Brazil. They then sold this crop to the Old World where it was a popular commodity
because it provided Europeans with a sweetener for foods. In addition, European produce was
brought to the New World, including ...wheat, vines, horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and
chickens... Where they sharply increased supplies of food and animal energy. This fusion of crops
between the Old and New World became fundamental in enhancing the diets and food of both
populations.

animals,

Sculptures at Crosby Beach
Whilst visiting Crosby beach in October 2013 there was evidence of the public altering the statues
appearance. Somebody had knitted around the ankle of one, and also placed a hard hat on the head.
The statues being placed at Crosby beach had created a large tourist attraction and we see how the
public introduce their own enjoyment to the art.
With the sculptures being constantly moved to different locations, they were granted permission to
be permanently positioned at Crosby beach in 2005, despite some objections. Certain people
believed that the figures were offensive and pornographic due to them being naked with genitalia
on show. They also believed that they were a safety hazard due to it being difficult to differ
between a human and a sculpture in low lighting. Also, reaching the figures close to the sea was
shown as a hazard due to the sinking mud; a problem which I had encountered myself! The
sculptures being made out of Cast iron is also relevant to them being positioned in Crosby beach.
The cast iron links to the Liverpool s industrial origin as a major port. The figures stand watching
as many ships pass each day, as they are reaching their new destination. The sculptures are possibly
standing, waiting to travel to Another place. This point is strengthened by the fact that some of the
sculptures are half buried in the sand, giving the impression of the statues walking into the sea.

History Of Korean Comfort Women
The term comfort women describes the system of militarized and government sponsored
prostitution that frequently takes place on military bases. During World War Two Japan recruited
hundreds of thousands of women, over 80% of which were from Korea, to serve as comfort
women. After the war, Japan publically denied the existence of comfort womenfor years. Although
the fight to bring justice to the victims of the comfort system has been ongoing since the 1980 s
and 1990 s it is even more pertinent as the 50th anniversary of the normalization agreement, which
recognized and regulated the damages and reparations from colonial rule incurred by Imperial
Japan in the name of peace and economic prosperity, was celebrated in June 2015 (Synder, 01 Feb...

The UN Commission found after their investigation that Japan had, at the very least, violated the
International Labor Organization convention against forced labor that they had ratified in 1932.
From 1993 94 the Japanese government tried unsuccessfully to establish a system to raise
compensation funds from NGO s which the movement rejected. It wasn t until August of 1995
when the then Japanese president announced the Murayama plan to pay victims out of a private
fund that many women who were formally opposed decided to accept the payment. Once they
accepted the payment however suits were filed in Japanese courts that the compensation was too
small for the damages incurred but the suits were quickly overturned. The Japanese courts claimed
that the women were well over the statute of limitations for the crimes and they could not use the
evidence of violation found by the UN because international human rights laws pertained to
countries, not individuals. Around 2000, a private tribunal was set up by several NGO s which
included several international judges and prosecutors and ruled that there are no statute of
limitations on crimes against humanity and charged Japan with institutionalized sex slavery based
on the Convention Concerning Forced Labor and the Slavery Convention.

Mental Capacity Act
Mental Capacity Act The Mental Capacity Act was passed in 2008 in Parliament so that
Singaporeans can appoint proxy decision makers before they become mentally incapacitated by
illnesses like dementia or brain damage. The Act, which came into force on 1 March 2010, is
broadly modelled on the UK s own Medical Capacity Act 2005 (Gillespie, 2010) and individuals
can do so through a new statutory mechanism called Lasting Power of Attorney or LPA which
enables adult individuals to prospectively appoint one or more persons they trust, to act and make
decisions in their best interests, in the event that they should lose mental capacity (MCYS 2010).

nutrition, hydration and pain relief? Advance decisions to refuse treatment are not as yet
widespread in medical care, but are undoubtedly encountered more frequently (Cowan 2007).
The concept of what is in the best interest of a person may be new or difficult to appreciate and
operationalize. There will be occasions when the decision maker might be faced with strong
opposition from other members of the family whose interests may not be aligned. When multiple
clients are involved, the same question arises: who is the primary client, and therein, whose goals
should be identified, clarified, and pursued? This question is especially poignant when differing
goals appear to conflict, as in some cases. There is a need to know whether it is the client s best
interests or her rights and freedoms that ought to be given greater weight and so which ought to act
as a constraint on the other (Herissone Kelly, 2010). And even when a primary client can be
identified, an important consideration is whether the client s desired decision can be considered
when she is mentally ill and who should be socially responsible for such decision? The holistic
approach to the determination of the best interests of a person who lacks decision making capacity
is further enhanced by the requirement that decision makers consult with others about care and
treatment. (Griffith Tengnah, 2008). The Act provides a checklist of common factors that must be
taken into account before a

Brock Turner s Case Study
In cases like Elliot Rogers and like Brock Turner s we see how gender favoritism can change the
terms of events. For Brock Turner it helped to low the sentence he would receive, and for Elliot
Roger it would create this idea of being superior a superior human and a superior race. In cases
where the perpetrator is other then white in the United States they are not branded as mentally
unhealthy like Elliot and are not taken into consideration on how the crime may affect the
perpetrator like what happened for Brock Turner. An important aspect regarding the link between
sexist attitudes and male violence against women concerns the fact that sexist attitudes function as
socially shared norms in justifying such violence. Generally this means rules... Show more content

How they do this is Bona fide occupational requirements, or BFOR for short. What BFOR is, is
its a true requirement of a job that merits a possibly discriminatory effect. (Michael Kimmel,
page 218) Gender favoritism plays a part in how companies select the BFOR, an example in
terms of police specific testing, several physical ability tests have been used in North America.
(Gregory S. Anderson, page 10) In some cases BFOR was not properly used and is a clear
example of how gender favoritism shapes certain fields of work. In 1994, Tawney Meiorin, who
had successfully worked as a forest firefighter in British Columbia for more than 2 years, was
dismissed from her job for marginally failing one of four parts of an aerobic fitness test.
(Rickards Kuruganti, page 451) Although it makes sense for somebody who has a job that is very
hazardous to have to pass all tests that are mandatory,. However, on appeal, the Supreme Court of
Canada determined that the standard was not a BFOR and that the standards for this test had not
been shown to be an accurate indicator of ability to perform the duties of a firefighter safely and
efficiently. She was subsequently rehired and compensated. (Rickards Kuruganti, page

charitable person. She views herself as a morally superior person that is going to save come

herself as women, that is saved and going to receive an eternal bliss. Instead of having true

  • 2. A Brief Note On Workers Creating Their Own Exploitation Soc 101 Alexandria Todoruk S.Enns Section 03 September 20,2014 Workers Creating Their Own Exploitation In a modern society we are led to believe that there is a fair exchange taking place when workers(working force?) sells their labour power ( Gary Lapon, 2011.).( define this) Karl Marx believed that the working class were being exploited through laborious jobs. In today s society wages are determined by the current cost of living within provinces across Canada. Usually the wage workers receive do not allow for many to live a comfortable life yet we continue to work these jobs as they feel we have no other option. This feeling of desperation comes from the term wage slavery (cite ), where one feels as though they are stuck working a job that makes them unhappy, so they remain feeling successful or are able to meet the cost of living. As a result of wage slavery, employees come into work on days that they had previously booked off, are frightened to call in sick when sick and often take abuse from their boss. Employees are showing up with their work persona, believing that these low wages are equal when in reality they are not (S.Enns, 2014) Employers profit from their employees without employees being completely aware of it. Employers want their workers to produce more and produce it efficiently, without increasing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Morbid Taste For Bones What do A Morbid Taste for Bones and The Man in the Passage have in common? They are both mysteries. Although both differ considerably in length, plot complexity, and setting, both accompany a sacerdotal sleuth as he solves a felonious offense. Despite their label, many doubt if these two mysteries are gripping enough to entrance the reader into reading the story to the end. What makes a mystery novel worth reading? Because the word worth is an analogous term, I will state my meaning to avoid confusion. When I asked what makes a story worth reading, I asked whether the reader considers it fascinating enough to continue to voluntarily read the book for the sole purpose of enjoyment. There are many ways that a mystery story can be worth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By disdaining an omniscient viewpoint, not only does the mystery writer abstain from giving too much information to the reader too early on, but also allows the conflict to persist however long the author desires until the climax and resolution at the end of the book. If the mystery writer decided to either use an omniscient viewpoint or change viewpoints often, it would become increasingly hard for him to cloak a plausible plot, since doing so would almost inevitably eliminate possible suspects, pointlessly disrupt the detective s search, and allow the reader to discover information which frankly the detective would probably never discover for himself. Thus, the single perspective of the detective is the only one needed. In A Morbid Taste for Bones, the reader only learns what Brother Cadfael himself learns, and often even less, since sometimes some of Cadfael s major thoughts or actions are omitted until the resolution of the book in an effort to retain the greatest amount of suspense and ignorance possible for as long as possible. The Man in the Passage s point of view is very similar, since the reader is only able to experience what Father Brown experiences. Furthermore, although Father Brown hints multiple times that he could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Students are placed into selected ability groups based on behavior, gender, age, and unwarranted perception. Research has shown us that actual fair data or lack of is over looked when students are placed in ability groups. Teachers must become aware of their bias and not let them dictate the ability of a student. Personal instinct should not be thrown out of the equation when evaluating students. Ability grouping is meant to differentiate instruction, not give more content to one student and not to the other. Many people claim that these regulations restrict business which I think is true and so does Melanie J. Since the conclusion of World War II, a primary goal of US foreign policy has been nuclear deterrence. However, the inevitability of technological advancement, has resulted in the production and perfection of a powerful nuclear armament by nine different nations. The US and our allies, have worked tirelessly to prevent the continued proliferation of nuclear weapons primarily attempting to prevent countries such as Iran from procuring this technology. However, the deal reached by the Obama administration, whose support extends to the world s leading powers, significantly extends the time Iran would need to develop a nuclear weapon and ensures that we have ample time to counteract any attempt at restarting the Nuclear program. In addition, the US has made it clear that if Iran does violate the terms of the deal, sanctions will be reimposed and more aggressive options could be taken. This deal is far from perfect and there are legitimate concerns raised by its many critics. That being said, without this deal, Iran could quickly double its capacity to enrich uranium and move towards producing a bomb. One of the greatest criticism raised, is that the deal and provisions will expire. While some are only in place for 10 25 years, the fundamental principle of the deal to preserve the peaceful nature of its nuclear program are permanent. Based on the information in the case, Pepsi could invest US$360 million in exchange for 30% equity of Deltex. So we have to calculate the value of 30% equity of Deltex. First, we calculated the discount factor by using average unlevered beta of US independent bottlers, US 10 year Treasury bond as risk free rate and assuming market risk premium 10%. We came up with 9.83% of WACC. Next, we calculated Deltex free cash flowand terminal value and then converted them into US dollar value. Now with WACC and total cash flow, we had NPV of the company. Densely populated and allowed centralized access to a large number of potential customers. It was a market that Pepsi could not miss. c.Pepsi distribution system had become inefficiency and fragmented and lacked scale advantages. He still believes that there is some merit to weak AI, as a means for understanding how certain elements of the brain function, but using computers as a way of not only mimicking the brain but actually being a mind. The most concrete example that Searle used in support of his claim was that computers cannot understand, and he demonstrated this through the Chinese Room experiment. In the Chinese Room Experiment, a person can functionally answer questions in a language that they do not understand, as long as they are given the tools to match certain words to words that they understand in their native language. The Effects Of Russian Culture On Military Operations The Effects of Russian Culture on Military Operations in That Region Introduction Understanding a country s culture as it pertains to military operations is highly important in the modern era. Dictionary.com defines culture as the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group . There are many examples throughout history that show the negative consequences of ignoring or misunderstanding the cultures of other countries. The most recent example is our long sustained operations in the Middle East. We have operated in the Middle East for the better part of two and a half decades. Through our own successes and failures, it is obvious how important cultural awareness can be. The mistakes we have made have created more animosity towards our military and our country in general. Over the last decade, our government has worked continuously to understand and teach those lessons to our service members. Through those efforts, we have been able to win over many of the hearts and minds that we lost during the early part of the 1990 s and 2000 s. Continuing these practices in the future, with countries such as Russia, will allow us to overcome many of the mistakes and problems we have encountered in the past. This paper is the culmination of my own personal thoughts and in no way reflects any official views or opinions of the United States government. They are often perceived as bastions of sclerotic mediocrity at best and outright corruption at worst. In the wake of the 2008 financial crash, Daniel W. Drezner, like so many others, observed the smoking ruins of the global economy and wondered the extent to which global governance institutions have affected the post recession, international system. In The System Worked, Drezner contends that despite the massive scale and reverberations of this latest crisis (larger, as he argues, than those that precipitated the Great Depression), the global economy has bounced back remarkably well. Conceptually, Denzer appears to conflate the phases of violence, discrediting the belief that violence transpires through stages. In a Denzerian world, the international system is bifurcated between violence and nonviolence. In his assessment of financial resilience through public sentiments, Denzer s overinvestment in evidence that measures peace through actual violence versus potential violence discredits various disputes that have escalated diplomatically, but have yet to turn violent. Denzer supposes that all liberalizing change must involve varying degrees of violence, ipso facto breaching a threshold of peace. Denzer profoundly overlooks the generally peaceful regime changes in Egypt and Tunisia, which, like so many others, were predominantly led by civil disobedience, civil resistance, and online activism, rarely intensifying into violent demonstrations. Denzer s assessment also misses cold or still conflicts, whose underlying causes and historic underpinnings have surfaced amid the ever competitive, protectionist nature following Great Recession. Take for example China and Japan s diplomatic clash over the contested Senkaku Islands. For four decades, Chinese and Japanese grievances have been reshaped in light of new regional expectations and financial conditions. In Japan s case, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ancient Greek Constellations Have you ever had one of those days where you d take a nice walk in the night time and just gaze into the night sky, and when you look up you see a bunch of beautiful stars. Well, if you have taken a closer look you may have noticed that the stars have patterns that create images called constellations. Constellationsare a group of stars that are connected together to represent mythological images of animals and objects from the past that is located in the celestial sphere1, 3. They were mainly discovered by the early people, primarily used as references to coordinate directions, measure time, predict farming seasons, and for religious studies3. As constellations move about one degree per day, they complete a 360 degrees circular motion in a year, making them return back to the same position as they were the year before3. As mentioned earlier the rotation of constellations depends on where you look and your location. For instance, a person who looks up North would tend to realize that the constellations are rotating in the counterclockwise direction around the north celestial pole, which is beside Polaris3. The explanation to why it seems like the constellations are rotating counterclockwise is because the earth spins from west to east, meaning that it is rotating to the right, while the stars and constellations above, moves from east to west3. In contrast, those who face the south, will see the stars rotate clockwise3. For a person who is facing the east will see the stars rise in the front of them and set behind, while a person who faces the west will see the stars rise behind and set in front of them3. Though constellations travel from East to West like the planets, people from different parts of the world will have a different standpoint on the movements of the constellations. Yeats poem Adam s Curse can be seen as an example of a dramatic transformation of Yeats poetic works: a movement away from the rich mythology of Ireland s Celtic past and towards a more accessible poesy focused on the external world. Despite this turn in focus towards the world around him, Yeats retains his interest in symbolism, and one aspect of his change in style is internalization of the symbolic scheme that underlies his poetry. Whereas more mythological works like The Shadowy Waters betray a spiritual syncretism not unlike that of the Golden Dawn, Adam s Curse and its more realistic fellows offer a view of the... The poet s stitching and unstitching (6) can be seen as a feminine labour, the production of the text as equal to that of the textile: such that though one knows that the product is a labour of much work and time, it can all be apprehended at once, as a finished work. The instanteity of such work makes both the poet seem an idler by the noisy set/ Of bankers, schoolmasters, and clergymen/ The martyrs call the world (12 14). The work of the poet and the woman are thus set against the works of the world, as spiritual labours comparable to the efforts martyrs put forth in their obstinate quests for salvation. To articulate sweet sounds together (10) is thus equivalent to the work of weaving, of composing the golden net of fate woven by the Ever living in The Shadowy Waters . Later in Adam s Curse Yeats extends the conflation of the poet and the woman s work, transitioning from the mild woman s comment that woman must labour to be beautiful (20) to a sort of nostalgic reverie for the devaluation of the labour of love. However, the statement of the impact of divorcebeing lessened due to less children being caught in the middle appears to be intellectually disingenuous. In 1953, Mr. Ray Bradburywrote one of his famous novels, Fahrenheit 451, which was written predicting a future overtaken by technology. Even though it was not very obvious at that time, this novel was very successful in examining social problems in its time and in our time as well in various ways. Some of the social problems in the 1950s that are examined in the novel include the red scare, communism, and McCarthyism. In our present day, the social problems that are examined in that same novel include overuse of technology and media. The passage When We Save Every Memory, We Forget Which Ones Are Special, by Dara Horn, describes how technology has made it easy for everyone to save any and almost every memory through social media. People might want to capture every memoryfor the fear of being forgotten or for the fact that they will be able to look back on every memory of their lives. A problem with people saving every memory of their lives is that when you look back at them, it will be hard to distinguish the treasured memories from the trash because of the huge amounts of captured memories. I believe that the idea presented here is that the abuse of modern technology has driven us to try to show ourselves to the world through social media, making the photo of ourselves more like a resume rather than actual memories we cherish. • 29. Behavioral Treatments For Substance Use Disorders Despite advances in pharmacotherapies over the last few decades, behavioral treatments remain an important component, and often the only evidenced based component, for the treatment of various substance use disorders. Among those with the strongest level of empirical support from randomized clinical trials are 1) contingency management, where abstinence or other targeted outcomes are reinforced with incentives (Higgins et al., 1991; Petry, 2006), 2) cognitive behavioral therapy, which teaches specific strategies and skills to reduce substance use (Carroll et al., 1994), and 3) motivational interviewing, where a specific, nonjudgmental interviewing style is used to enhance motivation and harness the patient s capacity for change (Hettema et al., 2005; Miller, 1985). However, despite the established efficacy of behavioral treatments for substance use disorders, their widespread efficacy is hampered by the considerable cost and resources needed for successful implementation. Thus, more efficient ways to implement behavioral treatments are needed and in an effort to do so, it is important to better understand how and when the treatments work. This information can then be used to maximize the effects and develop a more targeted approach. One strategy is through understanding the cognitive mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of behavioral treatments, which can ultimately be used to develop cognitive enhancement based interventions to supplement standard behavioral therapies. ... • 31. The Six Cultural Differences Of Barbie In China Introduction Mattel attempted to incorporate Barbie into China by opening a Barbie store. The business failed due to Mattel not researching the market and how to incorporate the products into the Chinese market. There are many cultural differences that Mattel needed to take into consideration before they attempted to bring Barbie to China. Problems Mattel Faced According to Wang (2012), Mattel did not fully understand what Chinese girls and women wanted from a doll. Femininity is different in China compared to what it can be defined as in the United States. Mattel opened a large store in Shanghai that not only had Barbie dolls, but also accessories and activities for consumers such as a runway and dressing rooms. The Barbie doll was not an icon in China like it has become in the United States and the store suffered because the relevance of Barbie and associated products was not a part of what the Chinese girls wanted. Six Cultural Issues and Mattel Performance Values and Attitudes The Chinese people want to have relationships with possible business partners before they do business with them. The Chinese believe in socializing and getting to know people as a way to see what type of person they will be dealing with. This is called guanxi (Firoz, Nadeem M. Topchaya, Olga, 2016). Chinese businesses will not focus on efficiency and view change as disruptive to their business. When Mattel brought the Barbie store into Shanghai, the Chinese people did not know Mattel and how Mattel would be conducting business in their city. This caused uncertainty and Chinese people not knowing if they wanted to do business with Mattel. Dress codes Chinese women tend to dress more conservatively. Chinese women often do not wear midriff shirts or plunging necklines, but tend to wear clothes that do not accentuate their body and curves(Aaker Schmitt, 2001). Barbie is known to have curves and tight fitting clothing that more fits the western culture. While that has been correct in the past, the technology is arriving that changes people s thoughts to that of a more ecologically friendly. Ever since Rudolf Diesel created the diesel engine, it has been written off as a smelly, inefficient, and dirty way of converting fossil fuels into power. Diesel noticed how the steam engines of the times were wasting 80 90% of the fuel they burn, making them very inefficient. In addition, Collier proposes policies in an effort to get away from the sluggishness. Even though Collier has emphasized on the geopolitical affairs in the developing countries, there are shortcomings in his highlights. Collier does not take into account the historical context of those countries. It is evident that Collier utilizes information from discussions he had with African leaders rather than taking a broader view of other people who have had experiences in those countries. Nonetheless, Collier has presented a strong piece in his book The Bottom Billion.Collier also outlines four traps that are the cause of the stagnation of the poorest countries, which include; increased conflict, the supply of natural resources, and the characteristic of being landlocked, and poor governance. Notably, conflict is the first trap cited by Collier. Increased conflict can be attributed to civil wars in Africa. Thus, conflict impedes growth due to the costs associated with the civil wars. • 43. Who Is Winston Smith A Hero The journey of a hero usually begins with downfall and ends with success. However, with Winston it is the other way around, his journey starts at success and ends with downfall. But that shouldn t unqualify him from being a hero. Winston Smith is the hero of the novel because he shows courage, and has a strong mentality and he continuously looks past limitations. He basically was willing to do anything for what he believed in, an example of this could be when he made a promise to O Brien saying that he was going to do anything for the brotherhood even if it meant he had to hurt children. Winston could not defeat the Party, however he makes small acts which rebel against the party and by doing this he is trying to be a leader to show the other members of the party that something needs to be done. He still proves that he is a questing hero through his courage, strong mentality and his ability to look past his limitations. Even though Winston did do some bad like telling setting the rats on Julia because of his fear and suddenly loving Big Brother at the end, which most people consider hypocritical. But why not look at the positive? He repeatedly wrote down with Big Brother , and he went about his love affair with Julia which by the way he barely knew. He tries and see the party for what it is, and of course it certainly wasn t any good, he thinks very much and philosophies a lot, but that certainly does not make his live better. He s a hero because he cares about the people who he sees around him, and he tries to help them in the best way he can considering the fact that his health isn t so good. Pompeii was a town in Italy and would soon to become disrupted by many disasters, and an even bigger event to follow. The eruption of Vesuvius would terrify shock and kill thousands of people living in the town, perhaps only a handful of townsfolk had survived that fateful day. Many tried to escape the ash, hiding in house corners, believing that they would be safe, or running towards the shores where boats were located, but the majority of people had died on that day. Pompeii, a medium sized town, was located about ninety miles south of Rome. Pompeii was founded in six hundred B.C. in front of Mount Vesuvius, which stood approximately six thousand, five hundred feet from the ground into the air. Apparently, nobody in the town was well aware that Vesuvius was an active volcano; they didn t even know that it was a volcano until the huge eruption of Vesuvius, leaving thousands to die. Pompeii is located on a plateau that was created by lavaflow from volcanoes around the area, then hardening to create a rock substance. The city of Pompeii was built from north to south, Vesuvius being on the north end of the town. Although there is no way to find out, would one really think that cavemen would not fight about who got the most food? Even children would argue if someone else has more crayons, or more toys. Everyone has demanded equalityat least once in their lifetime. Unfortunately inequalityoccurs more often than equality, and this will never change. Race, sex, and religion are the three main points that occur most often in today s society. If someone were to turn on the news, they would more than likely see global issues on race, sex, religion, and their fight for equality. I will be discussing the similarities and differences of equality and inequality through race, sex, and religion. When someone thinks about the similarities of equality and inequality in a social setting, they might think that there are none. In fact, there are many similarities, and the main one is humans. Humans either have equality, or they do not have it, and want it. Usually people have more courage in a group, rather than alone. This is also a similarity with equality and inequality. It is often groups that rightfully raise the issue of an inequality between themselves and the rest of society (Gosepath). The rest of society that Gosepath is referring to, is people who have equality, which connects equality and inequality. The first similarity of equality and inequality is race. With the sculptures being constantly moved to different locations, they were granted permission to be permanently positioned at Crosby beach in 2005, despite some objections. There will be occasions when the decision maker might be faced with strong opposition from other members of the family whose interests may not be aligned. When multiple clients are involved, the same question arises: who is the primary client, and therein, whose goals should be identified, clarified, and pursued? This question is especially poignant when differing goals appear to conflict, as in some cases. There is a need to know whether it is the client s best interests or her rights and freedoms that ought to be given greater weight and so which ought to act as a constraint on the other (Herissone Kelly, 2010). And even when a primary client can be identified, an important consideration is whether the client s desired decision can be considered when she is mentally ill and who should be socially responsible for such decision? The holistic approach to the determination of the best interests of a person who lacks decision making capacity is further enhanced by the requirement that decision makers consult with others about care and treatment.
