The Great War Of World War I
Even though The Great War ended over 100 years ago, people are still arguing about how it all
started. Beginning in 1914, and involving over 30 countries, World War One was the first major
war to impact the world. Russia, Germany, Austria Hungary, and Serbia could all be considered
factors that helped rise World War One. Before the war, countries faced many internal and external
conflicts, leading to rising tensions and concern across Europe, and later the world. Out of the
many nations who participated in the war, Austria Hungary, Germany, and Serbia seem to have
contributed the most to the start of World War One. Whether it was an assassination, irrational
demands, or inane ideas, Austria Hungary, Germany, and Serbia were the most... Show more content

This idea, known as social Darwinism, in Austria Hungary perhaps further strengthened the want by
various ethnic groups to leave Austria Hungary. Additionally, a group which the Austro Hungarians
controlled were the Serbs, who were placed under their control after the Bosnian crisis of 1908. In
the Bosnian crisis, Austria Hungary annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina, against the approval of
Serbia( Bosnian crisis of 1908 ). Because Austria Hungary didn t have the approval of the
Serbians, the connection between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina was broken. Serbia was
connected to Bosnia and Herzegovina because the countries had ethnic and geographic similarities.
It seems likely that these connections limited the conflicts between Serbia and Bosnia, lowering
the tension in the Balkan region. However, the annexation by Austria Hungary created a barrier
between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia because the Serbians already had previous hatred for
Austria Hungary. This separation angered Serbia to an extent where Serbia demanded a portion of
the annexed land be given to them. Austria declined, and soon after threatened to invade Serbia if
they continued with their demands. The threats by Austria Hungary suggest that they had no fear of
creating conflict with Serbia, and would rather anger Serbia than help them. In addition, the
provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina had previously proved economically prosperous for

Advantages Of Mergers And Acquisitions
According to Brunsman (1998), Berman (2007), Arrow (1969), there are few main points that can
be highlighted about Mergers and Acquisitions:
A Merger and an Acquisition are two different processes. The results can be similar in the end but
the the ways the both processes work are different;
Mergers or acquisitions are not always successful, sometimes they fail;
Hostile vs. Friendly An acquisition could be labeled hostile or friendly. This just refers to whether
acquired shareholders of the company are on board with the transaction or not. Obviously, if they
welcome, the transaction is friendly and if they oppose the transaction, it is considered hostile. It is
important to remember though that if an acquisition labeled as a hostile, it doesn t necessarily mean
that it will be bad for the future of the company being acquired.
The following can be major benefits of mergers and acquisitions (Bertkovitch, 1993):
Increased value is generated for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Microsoft s acquisition of Skype is a product acquisition. Then, some companies
can be acquired for non saleable assets. For instance, the asset can be anything, even simply a

acquisition is acquiring a new talent. Google is very famous for doing such kinds of acquisitions.
This company by buying businesses is taking the most important from each organization. For

connected to racial engagements during their daily life. The exclusion is not just existing in
schools, but also happening in the workplace in host countries (Soutphommasane 2013). New

Nutrient Timing
Nutrient timing is an important aspect for the proper growth and help of the human body. Over the
years, the idea of nutrient timing has added a significant impact to the health of the body, especially
exercise training. Think of it this way: before nutrient timing there was what you ate and what you
did (exercise). Adding nutrient timing adds in the aspect of time. Similar to the third wall in film,
nutritiontiming adds a new dimension. Much focus has been put on simply what to eat, but now
another emphasis should be put on when to eat. The idea of nutrient timing is to help benefit the
physical activity that is being done by professional and recreational exercise seekers. It is meant to
help carry the right amount of nutrients (protein,

The Effects Of Guernica By Pablo Picasso
1. Introduction
The painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso was created in response to the bombing of Guernica
during the Spanish Civil War and it serves to highlight the atrocities that resulted from it. This
essay will explore the relationship between art and war, with particular reference to Picasso s
Guernica. This will be achieved my discussing firstly the background that came prior to the
painting and to the event itself. Secondly, it will be proved by drawing conclusions on what the
painting serves to resemble. Lastly, it will discuss the effects of that the painting Guernica has
continued to have even after the Spanish civil war.
2. The emergence of Cubism
The Cubism movement was founded in the twentieth century by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque
as a radical from of modern art. Cubism emerged as a response to the swiftly changing world
(Doss, 2003:1). Cubism was a rejection of the traditional art values, styles and forms that
accompanied the world prior to the revolutionary twentieth century, as it sought to establish a new
method for responding to and representing the modern age. In this sense, Cubism was a direct
artistic reaction to the modernity that emerged, making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This indirect reference is manifested in the fact that there is no actual evidence or depiction of any
bombs, planes or warfare that would resemble either the Spanish civil war or the bombing of
Guernica. Instead, there it is a depiction of the general human suffering and loss that serves as a
cross cultural and worldwide representation of the atrocities of war. Guernica (figure 1) is
therefore a political commentary on the Spanish civil war, and in particular on the bombing of
Guernica, that is a reflection and symbol of the effects, rather than the cause of the bombing and
warfare (Polombo,

History Of San Francisco Bay
2.BACKGROUND The San Francisco bay was one of the best natural harbours in the world and
it was also the gateway to the Pacific Ocean. (Loomis, 1958) This fact meant that its bay would
become a leading trade centre. A rush of people were attracted to San Francisco because of its
port, the natural beauty and the gold rush, where thousands of people were brought in by ship.
This lead to a shortage in water in all areas and transportation services had to be improved to
provide enough water to all places. A ferry service was started that crossed the river from San
Francisco to Sacramento to carry heavy equipment and people to the gold fields in the time of the
gold rush and just thereafter. As the population grew the ferry service improved as

linguistic patterns undermine the emotional violence, expands the importance, and complicate the

A Brief Note On Income Tax Assessment Act
Question 1
According to Income tax assessment act (ITAA) 1997, if an individual is Australian resident, he
is entitled to pay taxes from all sources throughout the world under s6 5(2) s6 10(4). Tax is
executed on basis of 3 categories i.e., Income from Personal exertion (Wages), business (Profit
from firm) and property (Rent). Tax imposed in all these income are transferred to the Federal
Government which looks after it.
In this scenario, Suzette had purchased a farm earlier 25 years ago wherein she was exempted to
pay CGT (Capital Gain Tax), as CGT was implemented from 20 September 1985. She sold this

Zoroastrianism, Christianity, Judaism And Islam
Zoroastrianism is a religion founded in the late sixth century BC by a prophet name Zoroaster.
The bases of the religion state that there is an existence of a supreme, above all ruler, Ahura
Mazda. A believer of Zoroastrianism also believes that there is a constant, daily fight between a
good force, Spenta Mainyu, and an evil force known as Angra Mainyu. Zoroastrianismhas been the
segue for some other religions that we know today. Those being Christianity, Judaism and Islam. All
of these religionshare many common features, the belief that there is a place for everyone after
their life here on Earth has ended. Heaven is place for those who have lived a righteous life.
Hell, for followers of Zoroastrianism, is slightly different than many think today. Their Hell is
said to have several levels or stages depending on how many bad things or how evil of a life
someone lived. Zoroastrianism faith also has a belief that if your good deeds and evil deeds are
equal on judgement day you are sent to a place where there is no pain as well as no pleasure.
Another common factor is that it hasn t always been an easy road for any of the religions. Many
people have been harmed or killed, sacred temples destroyed along with many artifacts. In short,
the Zoroastrian faith is said to have had a great impact on the religions we know today. Without the
words in the Avesta and the ways Zarathushtra impacted the people of his time, who knows if the
religions we have today would be a present thing.

Women s Influence On The Early Years Of Jazz
There are many important women who significantly contributed to Jazz and left a legacy of
women artists. In the early years of Jazz, it was considered a male professional and women who
tried to be part of Jazz faced obstacles. This was from male musicians, critics, record producers,
club owners, concerts and also racism. Despite the obstacles, women forced their way to be part of
Jazzand pushed for equality and visibility ( Gender Discrimination, 2014).
Dolly Adams was a pianist and multi instrumentalist in the New Orleans Jazz scene. She was
recognized for her skill on the piano, playing, drums, guitar and trumpet. She was born and raised
in New Orleans Algiers neighborhood. Dolly Adams had the opportunity to play with some of the
great jazz performers of her time such as Louis Armstrong, Joe king Oliver and others (Hobbs,
2013).
Adam faced obstacles for being a woman in male dominated field of Jazz was. Her role as a wife
was also full of obstacles. Adam reportedly got married in 1922, and due to pressure from her
husband left her role as a pianist for over two decades. She returned to Jazz during 1950s and 1960s
( Hobbs, 2013).
Lil Hardin Armstrong, who was also known as Hot Miss Lil was a pianist, composer, arranger and
a bandleader in the 1920 s, before she married Louis Armstrong. Lil and Louis were bands mates in
Oliver s Creole Jazz Band. Early on, she performed in Sugar Johnny s Creole Orchestra, Freddie

OLED components include organic layers that are made of organic molecules or polymers.
Like an LED, an OLED is a solid state semiconductor device that is 100 to 500 nanometers thick
or about 200 times smaller than a human hair. OLEDs can have either two layers or three layers of
organic material. An OLED consists of the following parts:
Substrate The substrate supports the OLED. The materials used are clear plastic, glass, foil.
Anode (transparent) The anode removes electrons
(adds electron quot;holes quot;) when a current flows through the device. Organic layers These
layers are made of organic molecules or polymers.
Conducting layer This layer is made of organic plastic molecules that transport quot;holes quot;
from the anode. One conducting polymer used in OLEDs is polyaniline.
Emissive layer This layer is made of organic plastic molecules (different ones from the conducting
layer) that transport electrons from the cathode; this is where light is made. One polymer used in the
emissive layer is polyfluorene. Cathode The cathode injects electrons when current flows through
the device.

similar
manner to LEDs, through a process called electrophosphorescence. The process is as

The Reflection Of A Interview With An Interviewer
In the roughly eleven minute interview with my client, Alex, we discussed her need for case
management services. She established her concerns that she wanted to address with me, as well
as her current status in education, living arrangements, social supports, along with her history in
the same areas. We also began to discuss (informally) the goals that she intends to reach with help
of my services and other services she may be referred to. During the process, I learned about Alex
s strength and resilience. I also learned a lot about myself as an interviewer.
Initially, I was worried about covering everything that was required in terms of client information in
the interview. I thought that it would take too long, and that I wouldn t be able to have a
conversation with the client, and instead I would just be asking questions one by one. As the
interview proceeded, and I focused on using open and closed questions, I realized that the session
would go quite smoothly. Alex was really willing to discuss her medical and psychological
background, and made it clear that why she was meeting with a case manager. I found it easy to
initiate the session, and was able to ease into discussion about her concerns and objectives.
My goals for the session were to introduce myself to the client, understand the client s concerns,
learn her background and current situation for several areas relevant to her life and her concerns,
such as medical, family, legal, educational, and vocational. I

The Importance Of Conflicts In Victorian Literature
1.Introduction The introduction is designed to make the goals of a writer clear to the reader by
outlining the general topics discussed throughout the paper, and it provides a clear and concise
thesis statement to wrap all the topics together to convey a point. The introduction is probably the
most important part of a paper because it sets up the tone and argumentstrategy for the rest of the
paper. My introduction in paper 1B was revised in order to provide a thesis that was less broad
and that highlighted what the multitude of unusual conflicts (1) originated from in the story of
The Lifted Veil . As suggested by the professor, I borrowed ideas voiced in my conclusion to
showcase that these conflicts stem from this mental power of Latimer s rather than some vague
source. Also, I specified that the conflict characterizes Latimer s internal struggle to resolve any
confusion as to what is being characterized. It is highly important that the reader is not confused as
to what the thesis is trying to convey because then the paper could be interpreted in multiple ways,
all of which may not align with the author s intended message.
In the writing of paper 3A, I made sure to make my introduction specific and clear. First I started
broadly discussing Victorian writing as a whole, but I quickly narrowed down to the topic of
obsessively desiring a connection with a deceased loved one in order to prepare the reader for the
upcoming thesis statement. The thesis that

Which angered the colonist because it was done without their consent and without a representative
in the parliament to speak for them. This was the beginning of open hostilities between the colonies
and Great Britain. After months of protest, and an appeal by Benjamin Franklin before the British
house of Commons, Parliament voted to repeal the Stamp Act in March, 1766. However, the very
same day, Parliament passed other act. The Declaratory act.
The Declaratory Act was passed by the British parliament to affirm its power to legislate for the
colonies in all cases whatsoever . According to Berris (2015), the declaration stated the Parliament
authority was the same in America as in Britain and asserted Parliament s authority to pass laws that
were binding on the American colonies. The colonies did not dispute the notion of Parliamentary
supremacy over the law. In fact, most of the colonist at that time wanted to be part of the British
empire, and were horrified at the idea of breaking away from England. But the Declaratory Act
allowed the colonies to be taxed without representation. Which infuriated the colonist and caused
them to truly start thinking about breaking away.
By 1767, a series of taxations were introduced to the English Parliament by Charles Townshend
called The Townshend Revenue Acts. These

Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Industrialization Essay
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic and relapsing gastrointestinal condition currently
affecting a total of about 28 million people worldwide (cite). Although it is not considered a fatal
condition, painful and disabling symptoms can have a profound detrimental effect on patients
quality of life. Current understandings behind the etiology of IBD emphasize genetic
predispositions to gastrointestinal immune systemimbalances. However, pathophysiological

Yet, IBD is much less prevalent in the Jewish population of Israel, which depicts how IBD
manifests for reasons beyond genetics. Accordingly, it is important to remember that both genes
and lifestyle are inherited from our parents.
In general, an infection, which provokes an inflammatory state in people with and without IBD,
may cause every individual to have temporary GI inflammation and stir up symptoms of abdominal
pain and diarrhea. Following the acute infection, most individuals reset their immune system and
return to the previous state of controlled, low level inflammation. Individuals with various genetic
abnormalities for IBD however, demonstrate an overly aggressive T cell response wherein the
immune system fails to reset itself and the colon does not return to its previous healthy state.
Instead, there is a chronic inflammatory state, with a persistent imbalance between the factors that
increase the body s immune response and those that limit it. The onset and reactivation of disease
are triggered by environmental factors that transiently break the mucosal barrier, stimulate immune
responses or alter the balance between beneficial and pathogenic enteric bacteria.

Silver DBQ
Silver DBQ Essay
The global flow of silver from the mid sixteenth century to the early eighteenth century had vast
effects both socially and economically around the world. By this time an interregional trade
network had been clearly established and world trade was booming. When China, a prominent trade
nation, accepted silver as its currency and would only exchange for it, the importance of silver
increased. This new rapid scramble for silver proved to be both beneficial and disastrous. While
countries which were lucky geographically in their supply of raw silver could now trade
prominently with China, demand created an increase of labor and social unrest. Reliance on silver

2). Europe seemed to remain the most neutral in this desperate silver trade, choosing to remain
only involved enough to observe. British merchants were not entirely reliant on trade to or from
the Asian worlds so merely recorded how China received nothing but silver (Doc. 4) and the
Portuguese use this to their good advantage in China . However, England could not remain
completely unaffected as scholars such as Charles D Avenant observed. Luxury goods
especially spices and silks have become prominent in European culture. While Europe draws
from Asia nothing on solid use it has tasted of this luxury (Doc. 8) and it is not advisable for
England to pull out of this silver trade. England could afford to remain more objective, but it
could not pull out entirely. It had roots planted early on, and it would cause severe social
disturbance to tear them up. Yet despite any conjectures drawn from accounts of scholars,
merchants, officials and priests it is impossible to know the full extent of the economic and
social effects of silver without the voice of the common people. It was the commoners, laborers,
slaves, farmers and peasants which bore the full brunt of the trade. Their every day lives relied on
day to day paychecks, which mandated how they survived. It is the rise and fall of poverty in the
peasantry, the social unrest or benefit of the commoners that would reveal the true effect of silver.

Abraham Heschel s Definition Of Abraham Lincoln As A Prophet
Abraham Lincoln
The definition of a prophet, according to Abraham Heschel, is someone who is faithful to God,
is passionate, and would risk their lives to spread the truth of God. Prophets like Isaiah were called
to go on missions for God, to help people see, and he, with a passion, said Here Am I. Send Me.
(Isaiah 6:8). In Jeremiah, God states that he is to be prophet to the nations (Jeremiah 1:4). Abraham
Lincoln was 52 when he became President of the United States of America and became one of the
most well known Presidents in United States history. While normally, you do not think of Abraham
Lincoln as a prophet, Abraham Lincoln fits Abraham Heschel s description of a prophet because he

Back in 1861, Abraham Lincoln was approximately five months into being President when the
Civil War rang out across the United States of America. The President had come up with a series
of plans for how he planned to have the Confederates lose the Civil War, but each time he came up
short, however, after the Battle of Gettysburg, his plans were finally starting to work out the way
he wanted, this became known as the turning point of the war for the union. After only six days of
having won the war, Abraham Lincoln was, sadly, shot and killed by John Wilkes Booth. Abraham
Heschel states that Prophets earn their title by witnessing the world around them with outstanding
passion. and Abraham Lincoln fought this war with an outstanding passion. According to Abraham
Heschel, Prophets are also the men whose image is our refuge in distress, and whose voice and

Consumerism Worldview
There are many different types of worldviews that that are held among the countless people of this
world. Consumerism is one that is very prominent in this day in time. Consumerism absolutizes
consumption by believing that we can find fulfillment by accumulating wealth and everything that
comes with it. (Wilkins Sanford, 2009). There are many different elements of consumerismI will
discuss, along with how this worldview of consumerism compares with the Christian worldview,
and lastly, I will express how knowing what the Biblesays about consumerism affects my life
personally.
According to Wilkins and Sanford (2009), there are several elements of a consumerism worldview;
accumulating and using things brings fulfillment, money is power, we need just a little bit more,
people are viewed as objects to consume, and if something ceases to fulfill me or meet my needs
it should be discarded. With the idea that by accumulating and using things brings fulfillment,
whether it be fulfillment of material things or fulfillment of emotional needs, this worldview
neglects to fulfill our deepest emotional needs leaving us always desiring more to fill that void.
Money is power leaves people always striving to accumulate wealth so they can have power and
control over situations, because you are only important or significant if you have wealth. Also with
the consumerism worldview, we always feel that we need a little bit more, because what you
already have is never enough, due to material

Strengths Of Labeling Theory
Strengths Labeling theory has two simple elements that incorporates within the theory. One being
the negative reaction and labels that the public has of an individual and the consequences of those
labels that the affect the individual mentally and physically. It explains in simple terms why the
criminal commits illegal acts. The labeling theorycontains simple logical that any one can

Sociology: An Interactive Approach
At its most basic, labeling theory involves a number of fairly simple ideas: (1) Deviance (and

The societal reaction of an individual s behavior leads to that individual becoming the criminal

any type of individual and to any crime. But, with every theory comes weaknesses. The theory has
lacked the explanation on why individuals first start to act deviant and they lack considering other
factors that can influence someone to commit a crime. However, even with these lacks of
explanation labeling theorists argue that the labeling theory have been timeless and can explain any
type of situation. Labeling theorist also recommend ways to improve on the policy of the theory.
The recommendations that were mentioned explain on how not only the government, but also
society as a whole can improve on the rate of crimes. All things considered, what you as the reader

The Cask Of Amontillado Literary Analysis
Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask of Amontillado is set during the carnival season in the 17th century.
Although the city is unknown, many suspect Venice as the main setting. Montresor prides himself
in the connoisseurship of wine, as does Fortunato. During one of the festivals, Montresor
approaches Fortunato (who is drunk), asking for his help in testing a bottle of wine that is
supposed to be Amontillado. However, Fortunato is in disbelief. He asks to see this bottle and
Montresor agrees to take him to it. He leads Fortunato down into the catacombs under Venice.
Montresor proceeds to chain him to a niche in the wall and slowly bricks up the niche concealing

Montresor mentions Fortunato s cold, he still insists that they go to the bottle. While inside the
catacombs, he accepts some Medoc from Montresor to stifle his cough. He is so addicted to
wine, he does not even notice that he is being suspiciously led to his death. It has been fifty years
since the death of Fortunato. Montresor has finally released this story. He has obsessed over this
murder for fifty years. Even though he somewhat felt guilty for this act, he wanted to be done with
it. After placing the last stone, he replaces all the bones on the wall and continues to leave. He
even goes as far to say rest in peace about Fortunato even after this heinous act, For the half of a

Stereotypes In Society
Stereotypes are assumptions or generalizations that people think and label a particular person as
belonging to a group based on how they look in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, and other
categories. Stereotypes are a big problem in our society because they have a negative impact and
can be damaging to a person s emotions. Thus, any stereotypeon individuals is viewed as wrong and
in the end, it s us judging one another. I was stereotyped as a thief because some people assumed I
was stealing. As a result, I was affected by this because if they stopped to see what I was actually
doing, they would have seen I was buying a box to give someone a present.

Moreover, they affect people s social lives, an emotional state of mind, and how they interact with
their surroundings. I believe that you can t possibly know someone s character just by looking at
their religion, race, or gender. People who like to stereotype are people who enjoy judging others.
On the other hand, people have been stereotyped realize the severity of such an act because after
facing harsh judgment, they remember the lack of confidence and self control it had on them. For
example, in my country, regarding gender stereotypes, women have often been associated as
passive individuals in a household and they are put in the latter category, which means they lack
the roles that men have. Most people believe women should stay at home to cook, clean, and take
care of their children, meanwhile, men should support their family by working and paying the bills.
This stereotype make women strongly depend on their spouse for financial, emotion, and physical
support. As a result, staying home and doing the same thing every single day women gradually

Taking a Look at Heat Transplantation
Introduction
In everyday life, we regularly come across the terms such as heat, temperature, cool, etc. But what
do those terms actually mean? So in this essay, we are going to learn the real meanings of those
terms and how the heat is transferred from a place to place, and understand the real context of
those terms in everyday life.
Everyone has felt heat, but what is it? The simple answer is that heat is energy. In physics heat is
identified as a source of energy and can be observed only when it is transferring from a one place
to another. All matter in the universe, is made up of molecules and atoms. These atoms are always
in different types of motion and this motion of atoms and molecules creates heat or thermal energy.
All matter has this thermal energy. The more motion the atoms or molecules have the more heat or
thermal energy they will have.
Heat always tends to travel from a place to place whenever there is a suitable physical pathway
exists between the source object and the destination object. In addition, it will always be
travelling from a hotter object to cooler object. Heat travels in waves like other forms of energy,
and can change the matter it touches. It can heat matter up by the molecules the move or it can
cause chemical reactions like burning to occur. The path will be either direct or indirect depending
on the mode of transfer of heat. Heat can travel from one place to another in three ways:
Conduction
Convection
Radiation
Both conduction and

The Effects Of Sleep Deprivation
Sleep Deprivation. How lack of sleep affects you?
I bet everyone stayed awake for 24 hours at least once a life. Why has sleep deprivation become
such a big issue? Firstly, the global human problem is that teenagers, especially high school or
college students spend their nights on parties, in front of the computers playing games or some of
them even doing their homework. As well, a lot of workers or workaholics spend their nighttime
doing tasks and willing to skip sleep in order to impress their bosses. The second thing is a modern
generation, these days people want to receive food, entertainment, and information 24/7, because of
this, consumers have to stay awake much longer and sometimes they don t even have time to sleep.

Some of symptoms of insomnia are easy to recognize, including mood changes, bad attention,
lack of motivation or energy during a day. Insomnia is not attributable to a psychiatric, medical
or environmental cause. There are three types of primary insomnia: psychophysiological,
idiopathic insomnia, and sleep state misperception (paradoxical insomnia) (Wikipedia). The
main symptom of psychological insomnia is paranoia. As regards to Idiopathic insomnia, this
type of disease begins science childhood and lasts to the rest of a person s life. Actually, it is a
problem in a part of the brain which responds for sleep wake cycle as a result in either underactive
sleep signals or overactive wake signals. Sleep deprivation concerns to car accidents, too. The U.S.
Institute of Medicine reports that almost 20 percent of car accidents happen because drivers are
sleepy (Arianna Huffington). Moreover, lack of sleep is a serious problem in the medical
profession. According to the research, most of medical residents work for exceedingly long
periods, some of them work 30 hours twice a week. Twenty percent of all residents make fatigue
related mistakes that lead to harm patients lives and only five percent made mistakes that resulted
in a patient s death. To conclude, my standpoint is that lack of sleep has no positive effects on the

I m Chevy Chase And You re Not
FSEM FINAL PAPER: OPTION 2 Chapter 1: I m Chevy Chase and You re Not A classic
American icon, Chevy Chase had an incredible career brimming with accomplishments and
tribulations. The time spanning from 1975 to 1985 was a period in which America idolized
Chevy, a man who cruised through life with the perfect blend of cynicism, contempt, and charm.
Looking back, Chevy is considered one of the most hated comedians in the world, a close runner
up to Bill Cosby; however, nobody can deny Chevy s influence in comedy in film, the
development of SNL, or even the younger generation of comedians who aspired to be like him.
Since his start as an overnight star on SNL, throughout his movie star days, and as a sitcom cast
member, Chevy has repeatedly made headlines; he has ...insulted and assaulted co workers,
spouted racist, misogynistic, and homophobic views, and been described, even by those who
tolerate him, as a delusional egomaniac. (The Telegraph, Bernstein) Regardless of the things he
said and did on his rise to stardom, Chevy was named, The funniest man in America by New York
magazine in 1975. Today, Chevy is best known for hosting the segment the Weekend Update on
the premiere season of SNL as well as his starring role in the famous films National Lampoon s

Informative Essay On Geishas
Geisha are customary Japanese entertainers, sometimes acting as hosts or performers for their

Geishas are regarded as cultural icons of Japan. Before World War II, many young girls had no

Jane Austen was and still is a very accomplished writer from the nineteenth century. The question I

overall meaning of the novel. Pride and Prejudice is written at a time of contemporary historical
change in the world and yet Austen writes a novel where the main man changes his manners and a
young lady changes her mind. (Tanner 103). I am going to focus on her extensive archive of

JOURNAL # 7 PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
The proposal scene in Chapter 34 (quote from here) is one of the most famous passages in all of
English literature. It represents very well the two main themes of the novel that appear in the title:
pride and prejudice. First, look up and define each word: pride and prejudice. Then respond to the
following questions.
Pride: satisfaction derived from one s own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one
is closely associated.
Prejudice: a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.
Part One: Darcy s pride and prejudice
a.Explain how Darcy demonstrates pride during the proposal scene; use quotes from Chapter 34 to
support your claim and EXPLAIN how the quotes support it.
Even though Mr. Darcy had the best intentions when he proposed to Elizabeth, his word choice
was not the best. The narrator describes his dialect in the following quote, He spoke well; but
there were feelings besides those of the heart to be detailed; and he was no more eloquent on the
subject of tenderness than of pride. His sense of her inferiority of it being a degradation...
(Austen 34). He must find it sweet and heartwarming that he is choosing to lower his social class
for love, but he also seems to imply that he is better than her. Elizabeth feels insulted that he
would say something like that to her. She responds to Mr. Darcy by saying, You chose to tell me
that you liked me against your reason, against your will, and even against your character? (Austen
34). To her it probably seems like he is settling for her, when it comes to her social status.

34 to support your claim and EXPLAIN how the quotes support it
Elizabeth calls out Mr. Darcy on his prejudice towards Mr. Wickham. Instead of paying attention to
the type of person he is, Mr.Darcy makes it seems like his current financial situation defines him.

Evaluating the Main Theories of Counselling Essay
This essay will attempt to highlight and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the three main
theories of counselling within the module covered this term. The three approaches in discussion are
psychodynamics, cognitive behavioural and humanistic.
The psychodynamic theory originated from Sigmund Freud, a medical doctor and philosopher
(1856 1939) founded in the 1900s. Freud developed his ideas whilst working as a psychiatrist in
Vienna, collecting information from his patients such as feelings, thoughts and early childhood
experiences.
The psychodynamic theory focuses on the unconscious mind. Freud s credence is that different
mental forces operate in the mind. The unconscious mind can be described as being like an iceberg.

The Id is the unconscious state of mind; it is responsible for our voluptuous and immediate
satisfaction. It is our basic drives such as life instincts (Eros) and death instincts (Thantos); it is also
responsible for our libido (sexual instinct).
The Ego is the conscious state, the rational mind which organises our thoughts and makes sense of
them. This develops during the first two years of life.
The Super Ego aims for perfection, it works in contradiction to the Id. It controls our sense of right
and wrong.
Part of Freud s theory was that the Id, Ego and Super Ego were in constant conflict with each other.
It involves the Id wanting immediate satisfaction and the super ego who wants the id/person to
behave leaving the ego constantly trying to resolve the issue.
The Ego uses a number of defence mechanisms to protect itself; these mechanisms are designed to
reduce anxiety and stress. Some defence mechanisms include; repression, displacement, projection,
denial and intellectualisation.
Techniques used by Psychodynamic therapists consist of; dream therapy (making sense of dreams
and interpretation into reasons behind them), hypnosis and free association.
While most psychodynamic theories did not rely on experimental research the methods and theories
of psychodynamic thinking contributed to experimental psychology.
Psychodynamic Therapy was the first therapy used in attempting to explain mental illness and has
had great

Hart on the World of Anxiety
Hart (2001) starts his theory of connecting to the world of anxiety in the field of counseling by
stating that anxiety is the number one emotional problem of our day that anxiety should always
be considered and its role and significance on the body (p. v). He postulated this back in 1999 and
now fifteen years later this is truer today than back then. Our society is faster paced and
demanding than in years past too. Hart (2001) reminds us that researchers have discovered that
stress is the major cause to anxietyas it wreaks havoc with our brain s biochemistry; his main
premise is that although anxiety medication may help, they will not cure anxiety in fact anxiety
can be biologically based and the anxiety discussed in scripture is more akin to worry, which is a
learned behavior (p. vi). Hart reminds us that humans were designed for camel travel, but most
people are now acting like supersonic jets; in a nutshell, most of us are living at too fast a pace
(Hart, 2001, p. vi). Hart (2001) gives us a formula for understanding his theory as high anxiety is
caused by the depletion of our brains natural tranquilizers as overextension and stress flood the body
with high adrenaline.
Life changes are what Hart (2001) tells us will cure anxiety. Hart gives the reader a process to
understand what anxiety is and how it is produced in the body. He mentions two factors that are
paramount to the understanding of stress related anxiety: the first GABA (Gamma Amino butyric
acid)

The Theory And General Strain Theory
A theory is described, as an idea or set of ideas generally intended to explain, to prove facts or
events. Theory can be an idea that is suggested or presented as possibly true, that is not an ideas
that relates to a particular subject (Merriam Webster, 2015). Theory is an explanation of something.
Theories in criminal behavior explains why an individual commits criminal and delinquent acts.
This paper will compare and contrast two theories of crimeor criminal activities that was discuss in
this course.
The two theories identified are Strain theory and General strain theory. Strain theories are
indicated when certain strains or stressors are increased, there is a probability for a person to
commit a crime. According to Robert Merton, strain theory is a form of adaptive problem
solving behavior that is committed in response to problems involving frustrating and undesirable
social environments (Schmalleger, 2011). Strain results from an individual failure to achieve one
s goals, such as money, status/respect, autonomy, loss of a positive (death of a friend or love
one), and loss of value possession. Strain can be thought of as pressure that individuals feel to
reach socially determined goals (Agnew, 2015). A person who experience these strains become
upset, which they may turn to crime in an effort to cope. By doing so, crime may be an escape or
reduction for them to escape this feeling.

What is outsourcing? We have all heard the term thrown around but what does it really mean?
Outsourcing is defined as contracting, sub contracting, or externalizing non core activities to free
up cash, personnel, time, and facilities for activities where the firm holds competitive
advantage(BD,09).Outsourcinghappens when company s choose to purchases their needed products
and or services from an outside supplier ( mainly other countries), rather than doing the same work
within their own facilities.
Why companies outsource.
The main reason companies outsource is because it saves them money. Many different types of jobs
are outsourced, IT, telecommunications, auto manufacturers, physicians and so on. Outsourcing by

Everyone in this America knew that not only had this particular airline close, but so had three
others in a matter of a couple of weeks. But when I called my credit card company the man on
the other end of the phone had no idea of what I was talking about. He even tried to argue with
me about the situation. I then realized that this person wasn t in America and when I asked him
where he was located he quickly told me that I needed to write a letter and send it to the address
on the back of the card and disconnected the call. I was upset about my travel plans being
canceled but I was even more upset that I had to deal with all of that mess. After all of that I
cancelled the credit card and when they asked why I explained to them that I didn t agree with their
employment decisions. I realize that me cancelling my credit card isn t going to change the way
that particular business is done, but I felt better about it. Outsourcing causes consumer frustration
and disappointment. It is shameful for American companies to turn their backs on the American
worker just to save a little money.
How can outsourcing be stopped?
Many people insist that there are no clear cut ways to stop the issue of outsourcing, while some
people offer up ideas on how company s could still keep the majority of their work in America
while still outsourcing. Outsourcing has become the wise thing to do in business now days and
with these economic times, it is only going to

Child Rearing Practices
Parenting Practices that Help Promote the Development of Positive Social Behavior Among
Preschool Children within the Family.
MARIA PERLITA EMBUSCADO DE LEON
MA Psychology (May 2010)
Department of Psychology
This research used data from fifteen 2 parent families residing in a community located in
Dalandanan, Valenzuela City, with at least two children and one of whom is between the ages 3 to
6 years. Seven of these families are dual earner and the remaining eight are single earner with only
husbands as breadwinners. The research locale is an urbanizing area that is transitioning from
agricultural to industrial source of livelihood. The particular focus of this research include

Meanwhile, social networks, work environment and media, school and church were among social
groups and institutions which affected the parents most in their childrearing practices. For both
single and dual earner mothers and fathers of these parents, the school, through the teacher, and the
media serve as sources of information for proper childcare and nurturance. Parents in dual earner
families find their social networks as support system in providing childcare and as agent in
mediating parental stress brought about by employment.
Fathers in both income groups and mothers in dual earner families recognized employment not only
as a source of bread and butter but also a factor that indirectly affects the parent child relationship.
There were also certain socialization patterns within the family system that may either promote or
hamper the development of prosocial behaviors among preschool children upon analysis of the
observed behaviors between the parent child dyads based on molar activities, interpersonal
structures, roles, communication patterns, and parental patterns of behaviors. Molar activities
common to both single and dual earner families and these are eating together, sharing stories to
each other, watching television and studying together, playing with each

Hazel As A Leader In Watership Down By Richard Adams
In the book Watership Down by Richard Adams, Hazel proves in many ways that he is a leader.
Being a leader means having confidence, bravery, being trusted and worthiness. Everyday Hazel
shows that he is smart and confident by leading the rabbits to a new place to find food or a new
shelter. In the book Watership Downa few rabbits from the sandleford warren go on a mission
because Fiver, the smallest rabbit in the warren, says he can sense that something bad is coming.
Hazel believes Fiver and they go to find a new warren. While they are looking for a new warren
they come across the efrafa, (another warren of rabbits that is not liked very much) and a few more
rabbits who end up joining them. Hazel is the main character, he is strong and confident.... Show

He is also always up for a risk even if it means that he is risking himself but he will not let others
get harmed or left behind. He is always going to be confident by going someplace where he
doesn t know what he is going to find. They left the original warren because Fiver says he can
see into the future, he says something bad is going to happen soon so a couple of the rabbits
leave and they gather more rabbits along the way. Fiver and I will be leaving the warren tonight,
he said deliberately. I don t know exactly where we shall go, but we ll take anyone who is willing
to come with us (page 14). Hazel is strong and brave and is willing to go anywhere to help his
friends from not being harmed by anything that they may come across. Being brave really helps
the leader be a better leader than they already are because they are confident enough to do what
is needed although it may scare them. Although Hazel got injured because of the men that came
to kill and hurt the rabbits, he still powered through the pain and was a great leader even while
he was hurt. Hazel was strong even when he go hurt from running away from the men and
falling into a hole that he couldn t get out of. When Hazel was missing because he was in the
woods and injured his friends were looking for him because they need him around for them to be
safe. Hazel is great at doing what is needed like finding food to survive and helping others get
where they need to be. Hazel is always super supportive, for example when they were at the new
warren one day the went outside and they found an injured bird and Hazel demanded that they help
him and make him get better. Hazel told all of the other rabbits to find food for the bird Kehaar. I
believe it s starving, said Hazel. We d better feed it. Bigwig, go and get some worms or something.
There s a good fellow (page 181) Hazel is being a leader here because he is telling Bigwig to go

Psychoanalytic Theory And Psychodynamic Theory
Psychoanalytic Theory
In this paper, I will discuss the theoretical perspective of psychoanalytic theory and discuss a few of
the theorist that helped to shape and expanded upon this theory. I will focus mainly on Sigmund
Freud, the founder of the psychodynamic approach and use his theory as the foundation to compare
other theorist perspectives. Psychoanalytic theory is based on the belief that the human mind often
represses threatening wishes or painful experiences. Repression is believed to place these painful
experiences and emotions into the unconscious mind until they resurface. I will discuss the tools
that therapists take to help their patients find insight into their repressed feeling and I will discuss
the approaches therapist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, consider a newborn baby who is hungry and cries when it needs to be feed, or when
it needs to be changed. When a baby wants something, it will cry regardless of the situation and
without any consideration for others. This behavior is the result of the id and its desire to have its
basic needs meet.
As the individuals, basic needs are met and these needs become more of a want than a need, and
becomes more of a conscious thought than an unconscious one, the ego begins to form. The ego
is the rational, pragmatic part of our personality ( Freudian Psychoanalytic Theory of Personality
Boundless Open Textbook , 2016) and functions according to the reality principle. The reality
principle is the ability of the mind to be able to assess the realities of the world and act upon it in
an appropriate way. The ego acts as a mediator and will make compromises to keep the id happy;
in a realistic way. The ego has no concept of right or wrong; something is good simply if it
achieves its end of satisfying without causing harm to itself or to the id (McLeod, 1970).
As the ego struggles to keep the id happy and encounters obstacles, it keeps a record of those
obstacles and the objects that have assisted in obtaining its goals. This record of things to avoid and
strategies to take becomes the superego (Boeree, Sigmund Freud). The superego is believed to be
the moral part

Hurricane Sandy And Its Effects On The Climate Change
Hurricanes in movies, such as The Day After Tomorrow, are city destroying monsters that make
nightmares come true. While this may be an extreme exaggeration of superstorms, New York has
suffered from the destructive force of said superstorms. Three years ago, Hurricane Sandy swept
into New York leaving only devastation in its wake. Sandy, while not nearly as devastating as some
hurricanes, was the biggest seen since hurricane Katrinahit in 2005. Whilst Sandy is still called a
hurricane, it is actually an extra tropical storm, which unlike hurricanes are caused by temperature
contrasts in the atmosphere. These temperature contrasts are being made more extreme from the
climate change and has been effecting our raising sea level. The destruction caused by Sandy
has made New York come up with better ways of handling natural disasters. Climate change has
begun to have an affect on our super storms and because of that, new solutions need to be made
in order to prevent devastation s from extra tropical storms like Hurricane Sandy. For many years
now, scientists have believed that our climate is changing. This climate change has caused water
currents up north, near Antarctica to shift leading to warm waters taking the place of the usual
cold arctic waters. Warm water melts the glaciers and causes the top of the glaciers to float off
into the sea, allowing the warm water to melt even more glaciers. The extra glacier melting into
our sea has caused the sea levels to raise and the

Lippsha Morrissey Excerpt Of Love Medicine
In the excerpt of Love Medicine, Lipsha Morrissey tries so desperately to repair his grandparents
broken marriage. He is an extraordinary, dynamic character both with pros and cons. It is evident
he has his family s best interest at heart; however, him caring so much leads to negligence with his
lovemedicine. Because Lipsha is in love with the idea of love, he tries relentlessly, albeit
carelessly, to get his grandparents back together. Lipsha is aware he possesses special powers. He
uses this to his advantage by finding a love medicine that will bring his grandparents back together.
His motivation for this is the fact that he is utterly enamored with love. Lipsha devises a plan: he
must shoot a goose, retrieve the heart, and have

Dropping Out For Social Activism
The challenges that face college students today are vastly different from those in previous
generations. Tuition at Michigan in 1960 cost less than $150 per semester. That left students who
earned their degree move on to become contributing members of society without the burden of
student loans weighing them down.
Students today, however even those who hold two part time jobs fall tens of thousands of dollars
into debt, a burden that limits their career choices. Dropping out for social activism brings
competitive disadvantage. The speedup of academic pressures dries up discretionary time that used
to go to dreaming and exploring. Campuses are crowded with scrambling multitaskers for the most
part too busy to protest the pace. Meanwhile, increases in the cost of college exceed inflation every
year, intensifying the squeeze.
We had different grievances. The curriculum was often irrelevant to the social crisis we perceived
ourselves inheriting; it needed reform. Students were powerless under the paternal doctrine of in
loco parentis; we wanted rights. Students were disenfranchised, even though men could be drafted;
we needed the vote and alternatives to the draft. Structurally excluded, we went to the streets, to the
outside, demanding change on the inside. It s an exaggeration, but only after strikes, rioting, and
taking over buildings did colleges offer the mainstream menu of women s studies; black, Latino and
Asian studies; queer studies; and environmental programs that

What is Reality
What is Reality? What is reality? In my mind, reality is defined by the individual. It is not a
single, or whole entity that is the same for everyone. What this implies is that each person has
control over their own reality. It varies from person to person but also intertwines. Individual
realities can interact with each other which add up and ultimately create other joint realities until
an intricate web of realities is made that represents the world. I would consider myself an
existentialist, and that point of view shapes my ideas of what reality is. I essentially disagree with
views like Taoism, Monism and specifically Determinism. I believe a person shapes their own
reality and that reality is completely separate from another... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It was not predetermined that he would be a lawyer. An example that can show how choices are
up to the individual is the experience a person has when standing on a cliff where he not only
fears falling off it, but also dreads the possibility of throwing himself off. In this experience that
nothing is holding me back , he senses the lack of anything that predetermines him to either
throw himself off or to stand still, and he experiences his own freedom. I believe that my idea of
Reality is synonymous with Martin Heidegger s theory of Being. The only difference being is
that mine is not so clear cut as to say that there are only two states; being and Being. I think
everybody can shape their reality to varying degrees. Some more than others. Or at least it would
be harder to shape a particular reality because of varying factors. For example a person living in
Canada would potentially have an unlimited ability to control his reality. On the other hand a
person living in Africa would not be able to control his reality with such relative ease, or even
more so, be completely limited in his options. My other large point on my idea of reality is the
concept of intertwining individual realities. Just because a reality is subject to variance because
of people, it does not mean it is separate from all other realities. In fact it cannot be because it is
essentially how the world works. Every single person s

Pink Ribbon Clogs
Breast Cancer Action (BCA) coined the term pink washing as part of their Think Before You
PinkВ® campaign. According to BCA a pink washer is a company or organization that claims to
care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time produces,
manufactures and/or sells products that are linked to the disease.
These companies all give themselves a pat on the back for spreading awareness, but all the while
they are really just profiting off of breast cancer.
Example one: In 2010, Dansko Shoe Company sold pink ribbon clogs. Consumers likely thought
that a portion of their purchase of pink ribbon clogs went to a breast cancer program. However,
purchase of the pink ribbon clogs was not connected to Dansko s donation none of the portion of
the sales went toward their already set donation of $25,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. No
matter whether or not you bought the clogs, their donation was the same.
Example two: In 2010, Reebok marketed a line of pink ribbon emblazoned footwear and apparel
at prices ranging from$50 to $100. Though it heavily promoted the fact that some of their pink
ribbon product sales would be donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, they set a limit of
$750,000, regardless of how many items were sold, and there was no mechanism in place to alert
consumers once the maximum donation had been met. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe everyone at a time in life want to reach out and help give back to the community and
really make a positive impact. Raising awareness for a new and unknown disease would help the
diseases and keep people educated on it.
When cancer was first discovered raising awareness was the best way to inform people about it
and the dangers it entails. Companies first started to use the pink ribbon which represents breast
cancer awareness on their merchandise, to help raise awareness and in hopes of making money for
the breast cancer movement. When a company says they are donating a portion of the money to
the breast cancer organization (Susan G. Komen for the Cure), people that want to give back to
their community see it has a good way to start making an impact. Hence, they end up either
purchasing a merchandise they want that has a pink ribbon or just buying any merchandise that has
a pink ribbon, knowing the profit is going to

Ethnography Research Papers
Our Ethnography Research is how student s religious views affect their political views from a
standpoint of three different religions. Since we live in a college town, we decided the
appropriate demographic should be a college student between the age of 18 and 21. I got to
interview a close friend of mine, Danny. Danny is a sophomore at Oregon State University and he
describes himself as a Seventh Day Adventist, which is a smaller branch of Christianity and as a
Democrat. I got to ask him many questions that one would not usually get asked, which made the
interview fairly difficult, but I got to meet an entirely new friend.
The first question is, What do you feel shapes your view on pro choice / pro life? His response was
pro life because of his religion. Danny believes that he is pro life because his parents raised him to
accept every blessing as a gift from God. Along with that he reckons that a parent that aborts their
child should receive a considerable punishment. If the parents do not want to keep the child they
should give it up for adoption instead of aborting a gift from God. As a Christian ... Show more

Benefits of Virtual Teams
Virtual teams today are an important part of business, particularly where the business expands
globally. Although there are particular challenges associated with virtual teams, such as
communication technology, cultural concerns, and potential conflict resulting from these issues,
the advantages associated with these far outweigh the disadvantages. Virtual teams have the
potential to maintain the integrity and unity of the businessventure on a global level at a paradigm
that has never before been possible. When a company wishes to expand to a new country, especially
one that is significantly different in cultureand practice from the United States, virtual teams, if
well chosen, can significantly facilitate the process. When making a decision to expand to Poland,
for example, virtual teams can help to identify potential markets, potentially challenging cultural
differences, recruit tem members in the target country, and assess the potential for success.
Poland is a country that has several potential markets for expansion. The country is rich in
natural mineral resources, for example (Europa, 2011). These include iron, zinc, copper, and rock
salt. Any of these resources can then be used as a basis for a new business expansion. Salt, for
example, can even be used in art. Another important component of the foreign market is its labor
force. According to Walewski (2011), there is a relatively high demand for legal employment as
well as a highly energetic commitment to

and he served justice to the people. This is somethings he has done here in his time. Abraham
Lincoln was born in a log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy
Hanks Lincoln. Thomas was a strong and determined pioneer who found a moderate level of
prosperity and was well respected in the community. The couple had two other children: Abraham
s older sister Sarah and younger brother Thomas, who died in infancy. Due to a land dispute, the

Neighbors recalled how Abraham would walk for miles to borrow a book. He undoubtedly read
the family Bible and probably other popular books at that time such as Robinson Crusoe, Pilgrims
Progress and Aesop s Fables. In March, 1830, the family again migrated, this time to Macon
County, Illinois. When his father moved the family again to Coles County, 22 year old Abraham
Lincoln struck out on this own, making a living in manual labor. At six feet four inches tall,
Lincoln was rawboned and lanky, but muscular and physically strong. He spoke with a
backwoods twang and walked with a long striding gait. He was known for his skill in wielding
an ax and early on made a living splitting wood for fire and rail fencing. Young Lincoln
eventually migrated to the small community of New Salem, Illinois, where over a period of years
he worked as a shopkeeper, postmaster, and eventually general store owner. It was here that
Lincoln, working with the public, acquired social skills and honed story telling talent that made
him popular with the locals. When the Black Hawk War broke out in 1832 between the United
States and Native Americans, the volunteers in the area elected Lincoln to be their captain. He saw
no combat during this time, save for a good many bloody struggles with the mosquitoes, but was
able to make several important political connections. It was soon after this that he purportedly met
and became romantically involved with Anne Rutledge. Before they

Romeo And Juliet-A True Tragedy
Romeo and Juliet A True Tragedy A tragedy is defined as a play dealing with tragic events and
having an unhappy ending, especially one concerning the downfall of the main character
(Google, 2016). Shakespeare has deviously crafted Romeo and Juliet to become a famous
tragedy alongside Titus Andronicus. These plays fall into this category due to the character s
fate, their flaws and thus creating great sorrow. Romeo and Juliet is a battle of power and fate as
two nemesis battle each other to discover who reigns superior. Romeo and Juliet is a tale of fate,
where destiny reigns superior. Romeo and Juliet were born into two households, both alike in
dignity (The Prologue, 1), where an ancient grudge causes a family mutiny. This grudge destroys
any chance of Romeo and Juliet becoming husband and wife unless their family s relationships
ameliorated. Nevertheless Romeo and Juliet married clandestinely and were warned by the priest;
Friar Lawrence that with These violent delights have violent ends... Show more content on

  • 2. The Great War Of World War I Even though The Great War ended over 100 years ago, people are still arguing about how it all started. Beginning in 1914, and involving over 30 countries, World War One was the first major war to impact the world. Russia, Germany, Austria Hungary, and Serbia could all be considered factors that helped rise World War One. Before the war, countries faced many internal and external conflicts, leading to rising tensions and concern across Europe, and later the world. Out of the many nations who participated in the war, Austria Hungary, Germany, and Serbia seem to have contributed the most to the start of World War One. Whether it was an assassination, irrational demands, or inane ideas, Austria Hungary, Germany, and Serbia were the most... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This idea, known as social Darwinism, in Austria Hungary perhaps further strengthened the want by various ethnic groups to leave Austria Hungary. Additionally, a group which the Austro Hungarians controlled were the Serbs, who were placed under their control after the Bosnian crisis of 1908. In the Bosnian crisis, Austria Hungary annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina, against the approval of Serbia( Bosnian crisis of 1908 ). Because Austria Hungary didn t have the approval of the Serbians, the connection between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina was broken. Serbia was connected to Bosnia and Herzegovina because the countries had ethnic and geographic similarities. It seems likely that these connections limited the conflicts between Serbia and Bosnia, lowering the tension in the Balkan region. However, the annexation by Austria Hungary created a barrier between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia because the Serbians already had previous hatred for Austria Hungary. This separation angered Serbia to an extent where Serbia demanded a portion of the annexed land be given to them. Austria declined, and soon after threatened to invade Serbia if they continued with their demands. The threats by Austria Hungary suggest that they had no fear of creating conflict with Serbia, and would rather anger Serbia than help them. In addition, the provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina had previously proved economically prosperous for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Advantages Of Mergers And Acquisitions According to Brunsman (1998), Berman (2007), Arrow (1969), there are few main points that can be highlighted about Mergers and Acquisitions: A Merger and an Acquisition are two different processes. The results can be similar in the end but the the ways the both processes work are different; Mergers or acquisitions are not always successful, sometimes they fail; Hostile vs. Friendly An acquisition could be labeled hostile or friendly. This just refers to whether acquired shareholders of the company are on board with the transaction or not. Obviously, if they welcome, the transaction is friendly and if they oppose the transaction, it is considered hostile. It is important to remember though that if an acquisition labeled as a hostile, it doesn t necessarily mean that it will be bad for the future of the company being acquired. The following can be major benefits of mergers and acquisitions (Bertkovitch, 1993): Increased value is generated for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Nutrient Timing Nutrient timing is an important aspect for the proper growth and help of the human body. Over the years, the idea of nutrient timing has added a significant impact to the health of the body, especially exercise training. Think of it this way: before nutrient timing there was what you ate and what you did (exercise). Adding nutrient timing adds in the aspect of time. Similar to the third wall in film, nutritiontiming adds a new dimension. Much focus has been put on simply what to eat, but now another emphasis should be put on when to eat. Introduction The painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso was created in response to the bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War and it serves to highlight the atrocities that resulted from it. Organic layers These layers are made of organic molecules or polymers. Conducting layer This layer is made of organic plastic molecules that transport quot;holes quot; from the anode. One conducting polymer used in OLEDs is polyaniline. Emissive layer This layer is made of organic plastic molecules (different ones from the conducting layer) that transport electrons from the cathode; this is where light is made. One polymer used in the emissive layer is polyfluorene. Cathode The cathode injects electrons when current flows through the device. 6. Working: How do OLEDs Emit Light? • 14. The Reflection Of A Interview With An Interviewer In the roughly eleven minute interview with my client, Alex, we discussed her need for case management services. She established her concerns that she wanted to address with me, as well as her current status in education, living arrangements, social supports, along with her history in the same areas. We also began to discuss (informally) the goals that she intends to reach with help of my services and other services she may be referred to. During the process, I learned about Alex s strength and resilience. I also learned a lot about myself as an interviewer. Initially, I was worried about covering everything that was required in terms of client information in the interview. I thought that it would take too long, and that I wouldn t be able to have a conversation with the client, and instead I would just be asking questions one by one. As the interview proceeded, and I focused on using open and closed questions, I realized that the session would go quite smoothly. Alex was really willing to discuss her medical and psychological background, and made it clear that why she was meeting with a case manager. I found it easy to initiate the session, and was able to ease into discussion about her concerns and objectives. My goals for the session were to introduce myself to the client, understand the client s concerns, learn her background and current situation for several areas relevant to her life and her concerns, such as medical, family, legal, educational, and vocational. • 16. The Importance Of Conflicts In Victorian Literature 1.Introduction The introduction is designed to make the goals of a writer clear to the reader by outlining the general topics discussed throughout the paper, and it provides a clear and concise thesis statement to wrap all the topics together to convey a point. The introduction is probably the most important part of a paper because it sets up the tone and argumentstrategy for the rest of the paper. My introduction in paper 1B was revised in order to provide a thesis that was less broad and that highlighted what the multitude of unusual conflicts (1) originated from in the story of The Lifted Veil . As suggested by the professor, I borrowed ideas voiced in my conclusion to showcase that these conflicts stem from this mental power of Latimer s rather than some vague source. Also, I specified that the conflict characterizes Latimer s internal struggle to resolve any confusion as to what is being characterized. It is highly important that the reader is not confused as to what the thesis is trying to convey because then the paper could be interpreted in multiple ways, all of which may not align with the author s intended message. In the writing of paper 3A, I made sure to make my introduction specific and clear. First I started broadly discussing Victorian writing as a whole, but I quickly narrowed down to the topic of obsessively desiring a connection with a deceased loved one in order to prepare the reader for the upcoming thesis statement. However, the very same day, Parliament passed other act. The Declaratory act. The Declaratory Act was passed by the British parliament to affirm its power to legislate for the colonies in all cases whatsoever . The colonies did not dispute the notion of Parliamentary supremacy over the law. In fact, most of the colonist at that time wanted to be part of the British empire, and were horrified at the idea of breaking away from England. Individuals with various genetic abnormalities for IBD however, demonstrate an overly aggressive T cell response wherein the immune system fails to reset itself and the colon does not return to its previous healthy state. So in this essay, we are going to learn the real meanings of those terms and how the heat is transferred from a place to place, and understand the real context of those terms in everyday life. Everyone has felt heat, but what is it? The simple answer is that heat is energy. When people think of geishas, the image of a young Japanese woman with a face caked in a white paste, with lips lined in bright red, clad in an extravagant kimono comes to mind. However, the earliest geishas were actually men in the 18th century, who worked as entertainers, singing and dancing. By the late 1700s, the career was mostly dominated by women. Geishas are regarded as cultural icons of Japan. Before World War II, many young girls had no choice in their decision of becoming geishas. The question I am going to answer asks about Austen s narrative techniques and how they contribute to the overall meaning of the novel. Pride and Prejudice is written at a time of contemporary historical change in the world and yet Austen writes a novel where the main man changes his manners and a young lady changes her mind. (Tanner 103). I am going to focus on her extensive archive of narrative techniques specifically in chapter one of her novel, Pride and Prejudice, to show these changes. Tarpley English 2322 61801 30 November 2017 Journal #7 Pride and Prejudice JOURNAL # 7 PRIDE AND PREJUDICE The proposal scene in Chapter 34 (quote from here) is one of the most famous passages in all of English literature. It represents very well the two main themes of the novel that appear in the title: pride and prejudice. First, look up and define each word: pride and prejudice. Then respond to the following questions. Pride: satisfaction derived from one s own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated. Prejudice: a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. Part One: Darcy s pride and prejudice a.Explain how Darcy demonstrates pride during the proposal scene; use quotes from Chapter 34 to support your claim and EXPLAIN how the quotes support it. Even though Mr. Darcy had the best intentions when he proposed to Elizabeth, his word choice was not the best. The narrator describes his dialect in the following quote, He spoke well; but there were feelings besides those of the heart to be detailed; and he was no more eloquent on the subject of tenderness than of pride. His sense of her inferiority of it being a degradation... (Austen 34). He must find it sweet and heartwarming that he is choosing to lower his social class for love, but he also seems to imply that he is better than her. Elizabeth feels insulted that he would say something like that to her. She responds to Mr. Darcy by saying, You chose to tell me that you liked me against your reason, against your will, and even against your character? (Austen 34). To her it probably seems like he is settling for her, when it comes to her social status. b. • 40. Evaluating the Main Theories of Counselling Essay This essay will attempt to highlight and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the three main theories of counselling within the module covered this term. The three approaches in discussion are psychodynamics, cognitive behavioural and humanistic. The psychodynamic theory originated from Sigmund Freud, a medical doctor and philosopher (1856 1939) founded in the 1900s. Freud developed his ideas whilst working as a psychiatrist in Vienna, collecting information from his patients such as feelings, thoughts and early childhood experiences. The psychodynamic theory focuses on the unconscious mind. Freud s credence is that different mental forces operate in the mind. The unconscious mind can be described as being like an iceberg. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Id is the unconscious state of mind; it is responsible for our voluptuous and immediate satisfaction. It is our basic drives such as life instincts (Eros) and death instincts (Thantos); it is also responsible for our libido (sexual instinct). The Ego is the conscious state, the rational mind which organises our thoughts and makes sense of them. This develops during the first two years of life. The Super Ego aims for perfection, it works in contradiction to the Id. It controls our sense of right and wrong. Part of Freud s theory was that the Id, Ego and Super Ego were in constant conflict with each other. It involves the Id wanting immediate satisfaction and the super ego who wants the id/person to behave leaving the ego constantly trying to resolve the issue. The Ego uses a number of defence mechanisms to protect itself; these mechanisms are designed to reduce anxiety and stress. Some defence mechanisms include; repression, displacement, projection, denial and intellectualisation. Techniques used by Psychodynamic therapists consist of; dream therapy (making sense of dreams and interpretation into reasons behind them), hypnosis and free association. Hart on the World of Anxiety Hart (2001) starts his theory of connecting to the world of anxiety in the field of counseling by stating that anxiety is the number one emotional problem of our day that anxiety should always be considered and its role and significance on the body (p. v). He postulated this back in 1999 and now fifteen years later this is truer today than back then. Our society is faster paced and demanding than in years past too. Hart (2001) reminds us that researchers have discovered that stress is the major cause to anxietyas it wreaks havoc with our brain s biochemistry; his main premise is that although anxiety medication may help, they will not cure anxiety in fact anxiety can be biologically based and the anxiety discussed in scripture is more akin to worry, which is a learned behavior (p. vi). Hart reminds us that humans were designed for camel travel, but most people are now acting like supersonic jets; in a nutshell, most of us are living at too fast a pace (Hart, 2001, p. vi). Hart (2001) gives us a formula for understanding his theory as high anxiety is caused by the depletion of our brains natural tranquilizers as overextension and stress flood the body with high adrenaline. Life changes are what Hart (2001) tells us will cure anxiety. Hart gives the reader a process to understand what anxiety is and how it is produced in the body. Theory can be an idea that is suggested or presented as possibly true, that is not an ideas that relates to a particular subject (Merriam Webster, 2015). Theory is an explanation of something. Theories in criminal behavior explains why an individual commits criminal and delinquent acts. This paper will compare and contrast two theories of crimeor criminal activities that was discuss in this course. The two theories identified are Strain theory and General strain theory. Strain theories are indicated when certain strains or stressors are increased, there is a probability for a person to commit a crime. According to Robert Merton, strain theory is a form of adaptive problem solving behavior that is committed in response to problems involving frustrating and undesirable social environments (Schmalleger, 2011). Strain results from an individual failure to achieve one s goals, such as money, status/respect, autonomy, loss of a positive (death of a friend or love one), and loss of value possession. Strain can be thought of as pressure that individuals feel to reach socially determined goals (Agnew, 2015). A person who experience these strains become upset, which they may turn to crime in an effort to cope. By doing so, crime may be an escape or reduction for them to escape this feeling. As the individuals, basic needs are met and these needs become more of a want than a need, and becomes more of a conscious thought than an unconscious one, the ego begins to form. Tuition at Michigan in 1960 cost less than $150 per semester. That left students who earned their degree move on to become contributing members of society without the burden of student loans weighing them down. Students today, however even those who hold two part time jobs fall tens of thousands of dollars into debt, a burden that limits their career choices. Dropping out for social activism brings competitive disadvantage. The speedup of academic pressures dries up discretionary time that used to go to dreaming and exploring. Campuses are crowded with scrambling multitaskers for the most part too busy to protest the pace. Meanwhile, increases in the cost of college exceed inflation every year, intensifying the squeeze. We had different grievances. The curriculum was often irrelevant to the social crisis we perceived ourselves inheriting; it needed reform. Students were powerless under the paternal doctrine of in loco parentis; we wanted rights. Students were disenfranchised, even though men could be drafted; we needed the vote and alternatives to the draft. Structurally excluded, we went to the streets, to the outside, demanding change on the inside. What this implies is that each person has control over their own reality. It varies from person to person but also intertwines. Individual realities can interact with each other which add up and ultimately create other joint realities until an intricate web of realities is made that represents the world. The only difference being is that mine is not so clear cut as to say that there are only two states; being and Being. I think everybody can shape their reality to varying degrees. Some more than others. Or at least it would be harder to shape a particular reality because of varying factors. For example a person living in Canada would potentially have an unlimited ability to control his reality. On the other hand a person living in Africa would not be able to control his reality with such relative ease, or even more so, be completely limited in his options. My other large point on my idea of reality is the concept of intertwining individual realities. According to BCA a pink washer is a company or organization that claims to care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time produces, manufactures and/or sells products that are linked to the disease. These companies all give themselves a pat on the back for spreading awareness, but all the while they are really just profiting off of breast cancer. Example one: In 2010, Dansko Shoe Company sold pink ribbon clogs. Consumers likely thought that a portion of their purchase of pink ribbon clogs went to a breast cancer program. No matter whether or not you bought the clogs, their donation was the same. Example two: In 2010, Reebok marketed a line of pink ribbon emblazoned footwear and apparel at prices ranging from$50 to $100. Though it heavily promoted the fact that some of their pink ribbon product sales would be donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, they set a limit of $750,000, regardless of how many items were sold, and there was no mechanism in place to alert consumers once the maximum donation had been met. ...
