Fashion in the 60s
Fashion in the 60's
The 60's were a time of change and challenge. They brought hippies, space age, folk music, and the Beatles. Women's skirts got shorter, men's hair got
longer, and everyone talked about love.
The 60's was characterized by the feeling that a break with the past had been achieved. Clothes, furniture, and products all looked newer, brighter, and
more fun.
The swinging 60's were at their height. Women's hemlines were very short. Fashion in the 60's tended to encourage exhibitionism. Miniskirts, bold
colors, and see through dresses were all geared to showing off women's bodies, and on rare occasion men's bodies. Gaudy accessories such as perspex
rings and earrings and fold chain belts.
For women, there were long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was the beginning of the fashion reversal. Some pop groups in particular, the Rolling Stones, cultivated a rebellious attitude that was reflected in their
unconventional, scruffy clothing.
Strict rules dictated what was worn and when. Casuals for wearing during the day were very distinct from formal evening wear. The 60's saw the
abandonment of these traditions and it became perfectly reasonable to wear the same outfit to work as for and evening out. For evening wear, fabrics
such as velvets and satin ware used. For men, suits became more tight fitting and chelsea boots more popular.
Yves Saint Laurent had fashionable society wearing Mondrian dresses in 1965 and pop art dresses decorated with comic strip.
Op art = the use of patterns to create an optical illusion were very popular. The patterns first seen in paintings of Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley
found their way into graphic and fabric designs.
By the middle of the 60's, the term had shifted from popular to fashionable. Badges became a popular means of self–expression.
Their messages concerned political persuasion and sexual preference. Designers in Britain and the United States experimented with fabrics and
materials like paper, nylon, plastics, and elastic.
The Hippy movement, which first surfaced in California, nurtured a form of anti–fashion in which virtually all types of clothes were permissible
whether short or long, new or second hand, patterned or plain, as long as the

The, Sociological Imagination And The Reading
When I began this project, I thought that I would just change how I looked for 30 days and just be done with it. However, changing my appearance
for just 30 days to Goth threw me into this journey of acceptance within myself and other people as well. I came to realize with the help of the
looking glass, sociological imagination and the reading we've done within the course that everything is not what it seems. Not only is an external
altercation the most visible thing I could've done, it invoked much thought. The concept of the gothic look came to me as I was scrolling through
Instagram and being immersed in all of the beauty and the creativity that I saw. I also loved the darker aesthetic and although I tried to experiment with

77). Since my project was all about the outer appearance and to see if people's perceptions of me had changed, I attach this to the work of Miner.
Miner's focus is the way western society sees the individual based solely off their appearance. This is a problem because it leads to body issues
and extreme procedures to change how we look. On one of the days I took on my goth persona, I opted for a black metallic lipstick. Of course, I
got my mother's usual degrading comments on how I looked like a prostitute with my new look. Also, I got quite a few stares in the public eye at
work. However, nobody made a rude comment to my face. Thanks to my coworker though, I was given information about another coworker
critiquing the way I have decided to do my makeup. The coworker in question said she liked me as a person, but my makeup lately was terrible.
Since I was in a uniform, all my creativity had to go onto my face. Although it did bother me for a moment, I got over it. It reminded me much of
Regina George in 'Mean Girls'. The part that the interaction reminded me of is when she complimented a girl's skirt and once she walked away,
Regina stated "That is the ugliest f–ing skirt I've ever seen" (Waters, 2004). It reminded me that we as a society are so afraid to speak our criticisms to
someone's face, but rather behind closed doors. I admit that I am no saint, and this is a struggle that society faces. People say that appearance and
personal tastes do not matter, but

Coco Chanel
Gabrielle Chanel was born in the French town of Saumur on the 19th of August 1883. She was one of 5 children and when her mother died; her
father couldn't manage on his own so the girls went to an orphanage and the boys to work on a farm. Gabrielle stayed at the orphanage and visited
grandparents on holidays until 1900 when she moved in with them. She went to a local convent school with her aunt Adrienne who was almost the
same age as Gabrielle, she remained a valued friend. Gabrielle and Adrienne learned to sew at the convent so were able to get jobs as dress makers
when they had finished school. Gabrielle's earliest ambition was to be on stage and during her time off from work she was a regular cafe and bar

I find Chanel so inspirational in the ways she changed fashion through the war. She helped women become more comfortable and focus on the more
important issues whilst staying fashionable. If it wasn't for this the fashion world may not be like it is today. By 1916 Chanel's 3 shops were
running well with over 300 staff, her clients included socialites, actresses, singers and even the Spanish royal family came to France for Chanel to
dress them. Everything Chanel did made the news as it was so out of the box and ahead of its time, looking at the very early collections you can
still see influences from them in today's clothes. Chanel describes the year 1919 as the year she woke up famous, throughout the 1920's she
dominated the international fashion industry and was officially registered as a couturier. By 1930 Chanel had a 120million franc turnover; the
business went from strength to strength and her evening dresses became very ornate and extravagant but day wear still remained very simple and
comfortable. Chanel went on strike for 14 years, reasons are not known for sure but the second world war maybe had something to do with it. When
Chanel returned she was unknown to this new generation, her designs were seen as old and unfashionable, after receiving bad reviews after her first
collection was shown she blamed the journalists for being wrong. Between the years of 1955–57 Chanel experimented with a lot of the

How Fashion Has Transform An Image
Fashion changes continuously, fashion can transform an image, as well as make a social statement. Fashion is defined as the prevailing style or
custom. Some people find fashion an art form, to others it is a religion, for most everyday people fashion is a way of utilizing clothing and accessories
to show–off or hide something about ourselves (Nellis, 2015). The average person uses fashion to keep their wardrobe up with the times. However we
use or not use fashion, we are sending a statement. This paper will include recollections of my past life regarding clothing, times clothing gave me
positive and negative feelings, I will also discuss people I look to for fashion direction, as well as my comfort level with fashion and cultural norms.
My earliest recollection of my own clothing is a holiday dress I wore when I was four years old. It was Christmas Day and I remember many members
of my extended family visiting. My mother was busy preparing dinner and attending to our guests. My dress was black velvet above the waist and
a white poufy material below the waist. I wore white socks and black patent leather shoes, my mother curled my hair using sponge curlers. I
remember playing cowboys and Indians with my brother, I wore a holster on my hips with a gun over my dress and a cowboy hat. My memory
recall me chasing my brother around the dining room table and also shoot at our visitors. My mother always referred to me as a "Tomboy", I suppose
this is also my earliest recollection of

Discuss the themes of The House of Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne
William B. Dillingham has, with immense precision, conjectured in his literary criticism of Hawthorne that amidst the theme of 'inherited curse'
Hawthorne has placed a significant 'real' theme which is "necessity of man's participation" in the "united struggle of mankind". In fact, he begins his
essay on "Structure and Theme in the House of Seven Gables" by stating, "Most critics of The House of Seven Gables fail to discover any structural
pattern. The usual conclusion is that the book consists of a series of episodes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of inherited curse and sins makes one ponder the deep concept of pre–destination and free–will which is often debated upon. Whether the
inherited curse was incurred upon the House and Pyncheons due to the Maule's curse alone or was their own folly liable and blameworthy too. This
perhaps is a conflicting issue of the text. One can interpret this dichotomy in both ways. Readers can see the deaths of Colonel Pyncheon, old Jaffrey
Pyncheon and Judge Jaffrey Pyncheon either as a result of that inherited curse given by Mathew Maule or even due to the faults of each of them
individually. The similar fashion of each death results the reader's thinking meander into the stream of a single thought that these deaths are result of
some supernatural or mystical element which is not ordinary. This supernatural element only, instill within our understanding that the characters have

The Fashion Revolution of 1789-1799 Essay
Between 1789 and 1799 France was going through great turmoil. Immense political and social upheavals were commonplace in the changing nation.
New ideas were growing, ideas of freedom, government and of self–expression. Such new attitudes by the people gave rise to a new style of clothing.
The clothing became more expressive and more ornate. People began to dress the way they wanted. French soon became the center stage for fashion.
The French revolution, while failing in many aspects did one thing no one expected. The French revolution created a new image of fashion in France.
There are several reasons that contributed to this occurrence. New beliefs of freedom, equality and self–expression each contributed ... Show more

Curves became fashionable and in many cases tailors took it to the next level, producing the dell shaped full gown, what would have been thought of
as vulgar and showy only a few years before. With this new freedom offered to the people by the French Revolution the fashion grew form restrictive
top loose and changed style long after.
New beliefs in equality also made a major contribution to the new image in France. No longer did class separate the people. When the working class
took over everything turned upside down. While ornate and colorful clothes had once been only for the nobles and upper class, the new attitudes of
equality became commonplace in all society, and no limits were held including the limits on clothes. There was no longer a specific line between
what people of each class could were. Now businessmen could dress like a noble, and a noble could even dress like a peasant. With the introduction of
machines that could mass–produce clothes, the costs for even the most ornate items greatly dropped. For a long time suits, especially with three
pieces were a sign of the richest and gentlemanly people of society. With the introduction of a new coat called the frock coat, "designed as part of a
three piece suit" (Yarwood, 223), everything changed. Even the common men now had the ability to imitate the richer people of their society. While
many times this would not be allowed, in order to keep a fine line between the classes, with the

The Future Of Fashion Retailing
The future of fashion retailing is working competitively to bring what loyal customers want in stores. Not all fashion companies grow a company in
the United States, but rather in different countries, such as Japan, Spain, and Sweden. From the Forbes magazine, writer Greg Petro discusses how
three fashion companies, Uniqlo, Zara, and H&M, have expanded globally outside of their home country into the United States. Petro wrote an article
back in 2012 about these three well–known fashion companies. Recently this past summer, Petro revisited all three fashion companies to see how
successful their strategy has made their business and investors so successful. With the course content from the Contemporary Management textbook,

Uniqlo uses long lead times for their items, in order to have an effective outcome for the finished product. With this implementation, Uniqlo is able to
form a longer relationship with manufacturing companies (Petro, 2015, Part 1). Instead of following what the latest trend is, Uniqlo has their own
power to create the trendy style that will attract customers, versus customers demanding what they want to see in stores. As of last year, Uniqlo has
only opened 20 stores in the United States. They do not want to take the risk of opening up a lot of stores in certain U.S. areas yet. As a part of their
customer services in retail stores, they want to focus on the customers shopping within their store. Unlike many other retailers, Uniqlo wants to focus on
their brick–and–motor stores and not yet on e–commerce. To have an effective store experience, Uniqlo makes sure that their employees are highly
trained and management is on top of things to give customers the chance to check out the atmospheric experience (Petro, 2015, Part 1). Chapter Eight
of Contemporary Management discusses the concept behind Formulating Business–Level Strategies. Business level strategies create a competitive
advantage by allowing an organization to counter and reduce the threat of the five industry forces. For Uniqlo to gain higher profits, they must increase
value to their designs. They increased their value by differentiating

The Clothing And Fashion Industry
Consumers in the Fashion Industry
The topic I chose to write about was the clothing and fashion industry. Clothing is something that everyone in modern society needs, and something
that a few consumers care very much about. The number one thing clothing is used for, besides covering and protecting our bodies, is to express our
personalities, socioeconomic status, and how we feel on a given day. Because the the demographic for people who buy clothes is so large, it has a lot
of variation. People buy clothes of many different qualities and prices, or they make their own.
The reference work I have cited is The Berg Fashion Library. This is a very in–depth and detailed website about history, current events and trends in
what people wear around the world. Although, I don 't think this encyclopedia has any information on consumers themselves. The encyclopedia gives
you resources and access to articles on any clothing item, in any part of the the world, in any time period. Berg Fashion Library does not give much
analysis on the clothing items or history, it just presents you resources that can give you more detailed information. The only objective of this
reference work is to give data about fashion history. The encyclopedia is very relevant and has articles about the the most cutting–edge trends. These
articles do a very good job giving a brief evaluation of the topics, while not conveying any opinions about the fashion industry.
The web site I am evaluating is just–style.com.

In the fashion industry the customer's demand changes rapidly, and what the customers finds fashionable today might be impossible to sell tomorrow.
Therefore, to base the future revenue on always offering fashionable clothes depends on good predictions of customers future preferences. The chance

Essay about The Appearance of Youth in the 1960's
Fashion in the Sixties
Throughout time the United States has changed, whether it is hairstyles, clothing styles or all around consciousness, the people of this fantastic era
represent the patriotic lifestyle of the 1960's. The appearance of the youth in the 1960's was different than that of any era that came before, and many
of the styles that originated then are still seen today, thirty years later. As one takes a look back upon the sixties one must remember that, unlike today,
it was imbedded in a society of war, assassination, and political mutiny.
All of the drastic change in fashion of the sixties came from the youth. They began to disregard old ways and develop their own new ways of dressing
as well as thinking. Teenagers were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This caused a larger gap between generations than usual. Jeans were considered regular uniform for the youth. Actually in 1966 Levis sold $152
million in jeans, doubling 1963's figures. Bell–bottom jeans were some of the more popular jeans. Another thing the sixties brought to the male's
wardrobe were earrings. Although not extremely popular until later, the sixties erected the beginning of the male earring fashion statement. Formal
attire in this time was very popular. Although the top hats from the fifties had vanished, suits were still worn accompanied by a small tie know as the
"Mr. John Tie". In the church's of the sixties casual attire was not and option. The fashion revolution had begun and the men of the1960s never looked
so good.
The women of the sixties were dressed to kill so to speak. The mini skirt was first introduced in 1964. There were several new fashion trends in the
female end as well as the male end of course. Most women would wear their hair long and straight. This was a problem for girls with curly hair so
toiletries were introduced to straighten hair. In fact in the sixties the United States saw a large outbreak of teenagers consuming toiletries. In 1964
teenage women made up for 11% of the female population of the United States, however they accounted for 23% of total sales for toiletries and
cosmetics. Jeans were seen to be very popular during this era for women also. They would sport "hip–huggers", or jeans that fit tightly

The look that many women were idolizing was starting to become more unrealistic. Because we are constantly surrounded by the media, the
average person is less confident about their body image. Women criticize themselves everyday. Many develop what is called the "too" syndrome,
in which they think of themselves as being too short, too fat, having too much acne, etc. Due to the fashion industry, there are more and more
opportunities for women to compare themselves with others, and it is a lot of pressure to think we have to keep up. The British Medical
Association states that the gap between the ideal body type and the reality is becoming wider and wider; The models are getting skinnier while the
rest of the world is getting heavier. The average woman is 5'4 and 140 lbs, compared to the average model who is 5'11 and 117 lbs. This gap is
creating less and less self esteem is many women. The fashion industry is a major part of popular culture. Infinite amounts of images of fashion models
and celebrities are infused into popular culture. A study shows that the men in multiple villages in Peru, many having little experience with popular
culture, were shown pictures of women of all different shapes and sizes. The results, which were published in the journal Nature, found that the men
from the more remote villages thought that the curvier women were more attractive and healthy looking. On the other hand, the villages that had been

The Impact Of Fashion On Consumer 's Choices Of Many...
Abstract "The best supply chains aren't just fast and cost effective, they are also agile and adaptable and they ensure that all their companies interests
stay aligned."– Hall L Lee
The turbulent and highly unpredictable market in the fashion industry creates hasty changes in consumer demands. Many products and services are
assumed to have life cycle, perhaps none have more diverse cycles than Fashion. Fashions are, by definition, temporary cyclical phenomena adopted by
consumers for a particular time and situation. The phenomenon of fashion invades consumer's choices of many products and services. The triumph of
fast fashion to a great extent depends on identifying a trend quickly and translating it into the market before the trend is over.
Fashion industry is tantamount with swift change and as a result, commercial success/failure in the markets is mostly dogged by the organizations
flexibility and responsiveness. Responsiveness is characterised by short time to market, the aptitude to scale up and down quickly and the rapid
amalgamation of consumer preferences into the design process.
This case study focuses on the successful supply chain of Fabindia and its manufacturing, how will it impact the Fashion sustainability. Thorough
research has been done before the proposal on the company and its successful strategies.

Bag Styles In The Middle Ages
During the 1300's, bag styles varied for men and women. Women had drawstring bags embroidered with scenes of courtly love, while men opted for a
leather kidney–shaped bag, as it was more practical (Goublitz, 2007). Paris was well–known in the 14th century for producing some of the finest
purses, known as alms or aumonieres, with many aristocratic females partaking in embroidery (Schuette & MГјller–Christensen, 1963).
The 1400's century called for more variety in handbags, some becoming larger and structured, with caste–metal for a frame in an elaborate design. An
example of this elaborate design is an arch shape from a Gothic cathedral. The more rigid, less elaborate bags were typically carried by aristocratic men
(Campbell, 2010).
The Late Middle Ages brought many things, including famine, plague, and war. However, this period also called for a more refined approach to
the transportation of items. The men and women of this time attached pouches to a girdle as a means of carrying goods. This was sometimes
referred to as a purse as well. This includes items such as a rosary, a Book of Hours, keys, and even daggers. Some purses were ornate in nature, which
were particularly favoured by women and could be a sign of a woman's marital status. However, this is not the only thing a pouch could give an

Should Public Schools Require Students?
Should Public Schools Require Students To Wear Uniforms?
A Research–Based Toulmin Argument Paper
Vondre M. Richardson
Lone–Star College System
This paper was prepared for English 1302, taught by Professor Oberle.
Public school is a huge necessity of a childhood that is affected in many ways, and with dress code being one of them it is imperative to make the right
decision. In regards to public school, uniform may or not be required but I believe that it should be. The leniency of uniform in public schools can have
a vast amount of negative and also positive impact on direction, influence and guidance with both the teachers and students alike.
Public schools grant children and teens the opportunity to learn and grow together but without uniform sometimes a disruption can be created against
that unity. School is apart of the developmental learning and growth that prepares its students for adult hood; one way to ensure that is to practice
discipline, which I believe uniform compliments. None uniform clothing can shine light on a lot of things; some students and even teachers can
potentially fall under the wrong light that may result into them being a target for bullying. In public school you encounter a lot of different faces and
even more outfits. When focusing on the clothes someone is wearing a student or teacher may discover a common interest. If one finds another
person's uniform of choice appealing they may engage in further steps to unity. Friendships

In his hairstyle, the sides are not shaved completely but retain some short hair. To achieve that, a blade is not used but instead clippers for shaving
the sides. The strip at the centre of the head is then left to a maximum of 2 inches. The length of the hair at the centre is established using a straight
razor. The appearance thus remains textured since the hair strands are not uniform. As the hair moves towards the back of the head, it fades to a
shorter length. A strong hair gel is then used to hold this sort of short hair. Since it omits the unnecessary shaving of hair at the sides of the head, it
is seen as a milder form of this hairstyle. The sides of the head are trimmed just a little bit so that there can be a distinct difference in hair length
with the middle part. This makes a lot of people to find it more appealing. It is also an attractive form of this hairstyle without having to appear gothic

Goth Subculture Research Paper
The Gothic culture is a subculture that can found throughout the world. This subculture began in the early 1980s in England. Two Gothic bands that are
an outcome of the post–punk genre are Bauhaus and Siouxsie and the Banshees, and these bands have influenced Gothic bands today like A Day To

literature, media, and fashion. Fashion in this culture encompasses both Victorian and punk styles. Typically they incorporate dark attire, pale face

The Goth subculture has impacted many different types of artists. Typically, their work is based on otherworldly, gruesome, and romantic

preference for dark colors and feelings. We see this type of work especially in a multitude of television programs and movies. In the 60s, television
aired shows like The Addams Family. The Addams Family utilizes dark clothing and dark makeup for Gothic looks. It also uses violence as a source of
comedy. These shows utilized Gothic–derived stereotypes for amusement and humor. Horror movies and their soundtracks were a source of inspiration

How Fashion Professionals Are Inspired by History and Culture
How fashion professionals are inspired by history and culture?
It has long been claimed that fashion is a repetition of well–forgotten old. For centuries, designers drew inspiration from ancient cultures and traditions,
ancient civilizations, mythical gods and exotic countries. Often the Greek goddesses, who have long manipulated the arts and war, intervened also in
fashion. For years the dresses are current, familiar from mythology and the movies with mythological themes – naked shoulder, enchanting sets, lavish
tale folds and embellishments of gold.
Retro trends, which also inspired designers, recently make an impact and in their collections.
One of the most inspired collections in autumn and winter this year is Marc Jacobs, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elements of menswear designed by Tisci over the years, also influenced the making of the designs. Givenchy's new collection for the next cold
season is very strong and involves a lot of strict silhouettes and many pants, borrowed from the male wardrobe. Tisci has also provided different
combinations of pants and boots to the knee combined with a short jacket or leather jacket, most of them very suitable for all accompanying events
before and after the horse riding event. Dresses from leather with knew length or mini skirt combined with a turtleneck and jacket, or dresses
combined with s sleeveless top and cape is another possibility that is not missing. Dresses made in bright colours and decorated with lace are part of
the nightly visions. There is a lot of accessorizes that complete the outfits. Wide belts, emphasizing the waist, unique boots that are again knee high,
reminding leg covering boot. Short leather gloves complete the collection.
Street culture and art is Jean Paul Gautier's new autumn/winter collection for this year. He presents his favorite punk themes in the form of colorful
rebellious hair, combined with visions entirely made of smooth black leather. The designer uses natural fur in the form of large collars or ironically
mixed it with artificial materials in the form of hair coats in neon colors. The main reason given in the collection, however, is

Retail Is A Fast Paced Environment
Retail is a fast–paced environment that is always changing and adapting to new trends and styles. This is why we see "fast fashion" stores such as
H&M, Gap, Zara, Forever 21 and Uniqlo, cycling through the clothing they have in their stores very quickly. Because of the constant change in fashion
trends, such stores are in an extremely competitive battle to be the most successful in their field.
Competitiveness in this industry is broken down into five forces, a theory invented by acclaimed Harvard business professor Michael Porter. First is
the threat of new entrants, which is a high threat considering that anyone can make a brand and try to enter the industry. But, as for "fast fashion" stores
this is a low threat because unless someone was to enter the industry with a huge amount of capital, there is no possible way they could even come
close to the magnitude of already established stores. So, given these circumstances I would say the overall threat level is a medium, and this level
is going to stay the same. The next force is power of suppliers. This is a low risk because of the abundance of global raw material suppliers and the
purchase of materials with low levels of differentiation in terms of price and quality. Most of these companies control their suppliers as well, so that
in it self makes the power of the suppliers almost none existent. The only time where the supplier could put the company at risk is if the quality of the
products is subpar to expectation, and

Non Governmental Organizations And Government Legislation...
It's become easier than ever to turn a blind eye in order to enjoy a cheaply made, materialistic pleasure. However, keeping an extra dollar in your
pocket may be costing someone their life. Unethical fashion, an umbrella term to describe ethical design, production, retail, and purchasing, is a
growing problem in today's society. With the increasing demand for cheap and affordableclothing, the background of fair trade and sweatshops is
often overlooked, as well as the disregard for the waste that goes back into the environment. Consumers benefit from lower prices but at the cost of
unsafe conditions, poor wages, and environmental damages. In order to address this problem and inform the masses on the source of their products,
brands should accept responsibility for educating consumers, and non–governmental organizations and government legislation should add fashion
sustainability to their agenda. Although the problem may be oceans away, it is a fundamental issue that we still need to address. With an increase in
popularity of online shopping, it's become so much faster to get what you want and when you want it. Behind the scenes, brands and retailers are
even resorting to exploiting already underpaid works to make supply in order to keep up with the consumers' demands; this is the fundamentals of
fast fashion. Fast fashion is a term used to describe cheap and affordable clothes, which results from catwalk designs moving into stores as quickly as

H&M should specially target when launching in Melbourne.
3.1 – Profile One – Women 's outwear segment
The foremost market segment that H&M should target would be the women 's outerwear segment which includes all garments from tops to blouses to
jackets (REFERENCE). Main reason being, this market segment is reasonably profitable with a Retail Value of over $3000 million (Refer to figure
XX), where women have traditionally been the dominate consumer in the clothing and footwear industry (REFERENCE). However, there appears to
be a new social trend where men are becoming more fashion–minded and are also looking for cheaper options (REFERENCE). In recent times, there
has been a change in preference for young women, where they do not only demand for high quality yet fashionable products, it must also be low
priced (REFERENCE). H&M should then be able to target this segment, as the company 's core concept coincides with this new trend. Where H&M

tailored classics, sportswear, maternity clothes and cutting–edge fashion." (H&M, 2008, pg. 17). However, for the purpose of this report and to make it

Fashion is weird. At the Paris fashion show in 2015, fashion designer Rick Owens sent his menswear models down the runway with their genitals
fully exposed. In 2016, he had his female models walk the runway with another model strapped to them. In 2002, Raf Simons had his models walk

Kanye West's Yzy Szn has people dressing like they're homeless. People love to talk about what offends them. Runway shows are often met with
backlash from those who don't understand the designer's visions and it's a shame. The purpose of a runway show is to display the designer's talents

Sustainable Fashion Essay
One of the most heavily discussed topics, in this last decade, is the environmental decay of our planet. Diverse concepts have materialized in order to
find solutions for the problem. Ecology and sustainable growth have been confirmed to be the main solutions currently. Innovations for sustainable
growth include: creation of hybrid cars, recycling and minor discharge of carbon dioxide in factories among others (Christ 23). Environmental

The fact that it is possible to treat the clothes for them to simply not be able to receive dirt is eco friendly on long term because that means we
wouldn't need to wash the clothes as much but then those same clothes cannot be recycled and that is not eco friendly––Is it better to keep clothes as
they are and waste more energy or to treat them but not recycle them after use? It is a dilemma.
Finding an exact definition for the terms "sustainable fashion". "Green", "Eco fashion" to a name a few, is close to impossible. We all have the
impression everyone understands it the same way but it is false, it has different meanings for all of us.
The word sustainability itself implies some sort of length, in the sense that something can last long, it also. Here are some of the definitions people have
of sustainable fashion: "Quality items that stand the test of time – it is this concept of sustainability, symbolized by a timeless handbag that you wear
again and again, and can pass on, that I am always thinking of when I design." Says Frida Gianni
Accessories are a very important part of fashion and should be considered so a good example for this definition of sustainable would be the Hermes'

Differences Between Modernism And Postmodernism
There are a lot of differences between modernism and postmodernism. The first is that modernism began in the late 19th century and lasted until the
20th century, specifically from the year 1890s to 1945. According to Oak (2008), "... modernism and postmodernism highlights the difference in the
approaches towards life." A good example would be, during the modernist era rational and logical thinking was encouraged as well as being objective
and postmodernism does not and is subjective.
My chosen major is fashion designing. The purpose of fashion to me is an artistic way of self–expression, it is not only shown through clothing, but a
large variety of things like one's hair, personality and even plastic surgery! It is because, self–expression is more than just what you wear but a way to
show your "personality" through fashion.
Jameson (1998, 1) stated, "The concept of postmodernism is not widely accepted or even understood today." It is not accepted especially for the
fashion industry and there are people who still do not accept fashion as a form of art in the postmodernism era but also during the modernist era,
Paul Poiret stated "Am I a fool when I dream of putting art into my dresses, a fool when I say dressmaking is an art? ... It seems to be that we
practice the same craft, and that they are my fellow workers." There are many different styles in fashion from all around the world that carries different
meaning to different people or cultures and that is why there are people

dominated Japan: Men usually wear Western–style suits for work and out on the street. They also wear Western clothes when going out or relaxing at
home Fashion–conscious teenage girls are fond of wearing pink and other super–feminine clothes whereas older women, being brought in the
workforce during the peak of Japan's bubble economy during the 1980's, have become fond of luxury designer items and high fashion, which can
sometimes be noted through the suits they wear for work. Women who have high positions in global corporations usually wear designer suits, the
designer usually being either European or American. Japanese children in the city, whose parents also wear Western clothes, wear Western clothes as

something that has always been an eye catcher. Fashion has been around for many years, and whether we know it or not, Elizabethan fashion has

Women often times wore gloves made of cherverill, silk and velvet. The Elizabethan time period was known for their exquisite sense of fashion.
(Women's Fashion 1) Although Elizabethan fashion had multiple tricks of the trade, modern day fashion has only few tricks worth sharing. Modern
day fashion is a more carefree approach. There aren't usually any rules when it comes what to wear, and women are granted the freedom to choose
what they would prefer to wear. Women generally enjoy this aspect of society, since many things are still controlled. Unlike the Elizabethan women,
modern women prefer to wear jeans on an average day. T–shirts with fun, different sayings on them are often times paired with jeans. Some women
even prefer to wear men's clothing, such as jeans and loafers. Most women often wear shirts that show a little more cleavage than what would be
seen as appropriate in Elizabethan times, as seen in Figure two. (Modern day 1) Commonly, women are classified by what sort of brands they wear,
or what type of style they have, like the Elizabethans. Elizabethan fashion influenced the modern day fashion world in many aspects. In Elizabethan

GLASS CEILINGS IN BUSINESS
Pants today are globally worn by both men and women, however, behind this piece of material reveals the symbol of equality between both genders.
The significance of pants worn by women signifies the many challenges women went through to get to this role of equality.
Centuries ago, women did not have the same rights as men. Women wearing pants was a process in history that women fought long for. The revolution
of women's clothing from bloomers and corsets, to comfort and sensibility, helped advance women's role in society, and add to quality of life.
Women were expected to maintain the stereotype as a housewife. Women generally did not take part in any workforces, they were expected to stay

The Importance of Fashion in Modern Society
When you think of the word fashion, what do you think? Do you think about outrageous runway outfits? Cocktail dresses? Tracksuits? Whatever your
impression of fashion, it is obvious that fashion plays an important role in today's society. We are judged by our clothing and appearance on an
everyday basis, so why not make the most of our choices?
Everyday, we see hundreds of people. Whether we see them on the street, at work, at school, or on television, people pass through our visual field.
Fortunately or unfortunately, we judge these people. It may be intentional, it may be unintentional, or it may be somewhat intentional, but we form
opinions about people based on their style of dress.
For example, a man with dreadlocks and tight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People also utilize fashion as a way to be judged – or not be judged. Some people dress in high–end, fashionable clothing to show that they take care of
themselves and want to stand out in a positive way. Others may wear clothes that allow them to hide – plain jeans and tops that allow someone to blend
into a crowd. This shows that both making a statement and trying not to make a statement actually do end up making a statement – although trying not
to make a statement states that you don't want to be noticed.
Some people utilize fashion as a means of self definition. For example, for some people, brand names carry intrinsic value. A person may wear
Burberry frequently. Why? The brand makes the person feel connected to the fashion that she loves. It does not matter that the person could buy about
ten shirts at Kohl's for the price of one Burberry piece – the Burberry piece gives a person self esteem and pride in her appearance.
On the other side of the coin, some people do not care about fashion, and while this is fine, does not necessarily serve the person well. People are
often judged by their lack of fashion sense. Even though people may not judge others by bad fashion sense on the surface, the issue does come up in
the matters of job promotions and future success. If a person does not dress and carry themselves well, it shows a lack of pride in themselves, which
may portray that a person does not care about other things as

his first line of accessories including jewelry, handbags, shoes, glasses, scarves, and ties. Also, during this year he celebrated the opening of boutiques

In short, Topman is a retailer of trendy and edgy clothing that targets a diverse population.
In addition, Topman had also won many awards and received a lot of compliments of high endfashion magazines and media press. They have the
ability to appeal to funky 16 years old look to the mature twenty and thirty something. Congruently, Topman unlike many retailers varies each

Topman and Topshop is the only retail outlet which provide customers with exciting store elements. They allow their customers to feel the unique
Topman experience which includes a cafГ©, radio station, nail bar, a vintage range, Topshop TV channel, VIP changing rooms. Part of Topman's

Weaknesses:
Even though Topman has over 300 stores in the United Kingdom and over 50 internationally, they are still lack of experience on international market.
Topman has not cracked the Asia division. The whole of Asia is considered to be part of the most important division in the world, and countries like

Fashion In The 60S

  • 1. Fashion in the 60s Fashion in the 60's The 60's were a time of change and challenge. They brought hippies, space age, folk music, and the Beatles. Women's skirts got shorter, men's hair got longer, and everyone talked about love. The 60's was characterized by the feeling that a break with the past had been achieved. Clothes, furniture, and products all looked newer, brighter, and more fun. The swinging 60's were at their height. Women's hemlines were very short. Fashion in the 60's tended to encourage exhibitionism. Miniskirts, bold colors, and see through dresses were all geared to showing off women's bodies, and on rare occasion men's bodies. Gaudy accessories such as perspex rings and earrings and fold chain belts. For women, there were long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was the beginning of the fashion reversal. Some pop groups in particular, the Rolling Stones, cultivated a rebellious attitude that was reflected in their unconventional, scruffy clothing. Strict rules dictated what was worn and when. Casuals for wearing during the day were very distinct from formal evening wear. The 60's saw the abandonment of these traditions and it became perfectly reasonable to wear the same outfit to work as for and evening out. For evening wear, fabrics such as velvets and satin ware used. For men, suits became more tight fitting and chelsea boots more popular. Yves Saint Laurent had fashionable society wearing Mondrian dresses in 1965 and pop art dresses decorated with comic strip. Op art = the use of patterns to create an optical illusion were very popular. The patterns first seen in paintings of Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley found their way into graphic and fabric designs. By the middle of the 60's, the term had shifted from popular to fashionable. Badges became a popular means of self–expression.
  • 2. Their messages concerned political persuasion and sexual preference. Designers in Britain and the United States experimented with fabrics and materials like paper, nylon, plastics, and elastic. The Hippy movement, which first surfaced in California, nurtured a form of anti–fashion in which virtually all types of clothes were permissible whether short or long, new or second hand, patterned or plain, as long as the ... • 3. The, Sociological Imagination And The Reading When I began this project, I thought that I would just change how I looked for 30 days and just be done with it. However, changing my appearance for just 30 days to Goth threw me into this journey of acceptance within myself and other people as well. I came to realize with the help of the looking glass, sociological imagination and the reading we've done within the course that everything is not what it seems. Not only is an external altercation the most visible thing I could've done, it invoked much thought. The concept of the gothic look came to me as I was scrolling through Instagram and being immersed in all of the beauty and the creativity that I saw. I also loved the darker aesthetic and although I tried to experiment with it when I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 77). Since my project was all about the outer appearance and to see if people's perceptions of me had changed, I attach this to the work of Miner. Miner's focus is the way western society sees the individual based solely off their appearance. This is a problem because it leads to body issues and extreme procedures to change how we look. On one of the days I took on my goth persona, I opted for a black metallic lipstick. Of course, I got my mother's usual degrading comments on how I looked like a prostitute with my new look. Also, I got quite a few stares in the public eye at work. However, nobody made a rude comment to my face. Thanks to my coworker though, I was given information about another coworker critiquing the way I have decided to do my makeup. The coworker in question said she liked me as a person, but my makeup lately was terrible. Since I was in a uniform, all my creativity had to go onto my face. Although it did bother me for a moment, I got over it. It reminded me much of Regina George in 'Mean Girls'. The part that the interaction reminded me of is when she complimented a girl's skirt and once she walked away, Regina stated "That is the ugliest f–ing skirt I've ever seen" (Waters, 2004). It reminded me that we as a society are so afraid to speak our criticisms to someone's face, but rather behind closed doors. I admit that I am no saint, and this is a struggle that society faces. She was one of 5 children and when her mother died; her father couldn't manage on his own so the girls went to an orphanage and the boys to work on a farm. Gabrielle stayed at the orphanage and visited grandparents on holidays until 1900 when she moved in with them. She went to a local convent school with her aunt Adrienne who was almost the same age as Gabrielle, she remained a valued friend. Gabrielle and Adrienne learned to sew at the convent so were able to get jobs as dress makers when they had finished school. I find Chanel so inspirational in the ways she changed fashion through the war. She helped women become more comfortable and focus on the more important issues whilst staying fashionable. If it wasn't for this the fashion world may not be like it is today. By 1916 Chanel's 3 shops were running well with over 300 staff, her clients included socialites, actresses, singers and even the Spanish royal family came to France for Chanel to dress them. Everything Chanel did made the news as it was so out of the box and ahead of its time, looking at the very early collections you can still see influences from them in today's clothes. Chanel describes the year 1919 as the year she woke up famous, throughout the 1920's she dominated the international fashion industry and was officially registered as a couturier. By 1930 Chanel had a 120million franc turnover; the business went from strength to strength and her evening dresses became very ornate and extravagant but day wear still remained very simple and comfortable. Chanel went on strike for 14 years, reasons are not known for sure but the second world war maybe had something to do with it. When Chanel returned she was unknown to this new generation, her designs were seen as old and unfashionable, after receiving bad reviews after her first collection was shown she blamed the journalists for being wrong. • 7. How Fashion Has Transform An Image Fashion changes continuously, fashion can transform an image, as well as make a social statement. Fashion is defined as the prevailing style or custom. Some people find fashion an art form, to others it is a religion, for most everyday people fashion is a way of utilizing clothing and accessories to show–off or hide something about ourselves (Nellis, 2015). The average person uses fashion to keep their wardrobe up with the times. However we use or not use fashion, we are sending a statement. This paper will include recollections of my past life regarding clothing, times clothing gave me positive and negative feelings, I will also discuss people I look to for fashion direction, as well as my comfort level with fashion and cultural norms. My earliest recollection of my own clothing is a holiday dress I wore when I was four years old. It was Christmas Day and I remember many members of my extended family visiting. My mother was busy preparing dinner and attending to our guests. My dress was black velvet above the waist and a white poufy material below the waist. I wore white socks and black patent leather shoes, my mother curled my hair using sponge curlers. I remember playing cowboys and Indians with my brother, I wore a holster on my hips with a gun over my dress and a cowboy hat. My memory recall me chasing my brother around the dining room table and also shoot at our visitors. My mother always referred to me as a "Tomboy", I suppose this is also my earliest recollection of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Theme Of The House Of Seven Gables Saniya Puri English (Hons.) Second Year (B) Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University Paper for American Literature Teacher–Mrs. Usma Khan 13th October, 2014 Discuss the themes of The House of Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne William B. Dillingham has, with immense precision, conjectured in his literary criticism of Hawthorne that amidst the theme of 'inherited curse' Hawthorne has placed a significant 'real' theme which is "necessity of man's participation" in the "united struggle of mankind". In fact, he begins his essay on "Structure and Theme in the House of Seven Gables" by stating, "Most critics of The House of Seven Gables fail to discover any structural pattern. Whether the inherited curse was incurred upon the House and Pyncheons due to the Maule's curse alone or was their own folly liable and blameworthy too. This perhaps is a conflicting issue of the text. One can interpret this dichotomy in both ways. Readers can see the deaths of Colonel Pyncheon, old Jaffrey Pyncheon and Judge Jaffrey Pyncheon either as a result of that inherited curse given by Mathew Maule or even due to the faults of each of them individually. • 9. The Fashion Revolution of 1789-1799 Essay Between 1789 and 1799 France was going through great turmoil. Curves became fashionable and in many cases tailors took it to the next level, producing the dell shaped full gown, what would have been thought of as vulgar and showy only a few years before. With this new freedom offered to the people by the French Revolution the fashion grew form restrictive top loose and changed style long after. New beliefs in equality also made a major contribution to the new image in France. No longer did class separate the people. When the working class took over everything turned upside down. While ornate and colorful clothes had once been only for the nobles and upper class, the new attitudes of equality became commonplace in all society, and no limits were held including the limits on clothes. There was no longer a specific line between what people of each class could were. Now businessmen could dress like a noble, and a noble could even dress like a peasant. With the introduction of machines that could mass–produce clothes, the costs for even the most ornate items greatly dropped. For a long time suits, especially with three pieces were a sign of the richest and gentlemanly people of society. With the introduction of a new coat called the frock coat, "designed as part of a three piece suit" (Yarwood, 223), everything changed. Even the common men now had the ability to imitate the richer people of their society. While many times this would not be allowed, in order to keep a fine line between the classes, with the ... Not all fashion companies grow a company in the United States, but rather in different countries, such as Japan, Spain, and Sweden. From the Forbes magazine, writer Greg Petro discusses how three fashion companies, Uniqlo, Zara, and H&M, have expanded globally outside of their home country into the United States. Instead of following what the latest trend is, Uniqlo has their own power to create the trendy style that will attract customers, versus customers demanding what they want to see in stores. As of last year, Uniqlo has only opened 20 stores in the United States. They do not want to take the risk of opening up a lot of stores in certain U.S. areas yet. As a part of their customer services in retail stores, they want to focus on the customers shopping within their store. Unlike many other retailers, Uniqlo wants to focus on their brick–and–motor stores and not yet on e–commerce. To have an effective store experience, Uniqlo makes sure that their employees are highly trained and management is on top of things to give customers the chance to check out the atmospheric experience (Petro, 2015, Part 1). • 11. The Clothing And Fashion Industry Consumers in the Fashion Industry The topic I chose to write about was the clothing and fashion industry. Clothing is something that everyone in modern society needs, and something that a few consumers care very much about. The number one thing clothing is used for, besides covering and protecting our bodies, is to express our personalities, socioeconomic status, and how we feel on a given day. Because the the demographic for people who buy clothes is so large, it has a lot of variation. People buy clothes of many different qualities and prices, or they make their own. The reference work I have cited is The Berg Fashion Library. This is a very in–depth and detailed website about history, current events and trends in what people wear around the world. Although, I don 't think this encyclopedia has any information on consumers themselves. The encyclopedia gives you resources and access to articles on any clothing item, in any part of the the world, in any time period. Berg Fashion Library does not give much analysis on the clothing items or history, it just presents you resources that can give you more detailed information. The only objective of this reference work is to give data about fashion history. The encyclopedia is very relevant and has articles about the the most cutting–edge trends. These articles do a very good job giving a brief evaluation of the topics, while not conveying any opinions about the fashion industry. The web site I am evaluating is just–style.com. ... Women had drawstring bags embroidered with scenes of courtly love, while men opted for a leather kidney–shaped bag, as it was more practical (Goublitz, 2007). Paris was well–known in the 14th century for producing some of the finest purses, known as alms or aumonieres, with many aristocratic females partaking in embroidery (Schuette & MГјller–Christensen, 1963). The 1400's century called for more variety in handbags, some becoming larger and structured, with caste–metal for a frame in an elaborate design. An example of this elaborate design is an arch shape from a Gothic cathedral. The more rigid, less elaborate bags were typically carried by aristocratic men (Campbell, 2010). The Late Middle Ages brought many things, including famine, plague, and war. However, this period also called for a more refined approach to the transportation of items. The men and women of this time attached pouches to a girdle as a means of carrying goods. This was sometimes referred to as a purse as well. Public school is a huge necessity of a childhood that is affected in many ways, and with dress code being one of them it is imperative to make the right decision. In regards to public school, uniform may or not be required but I believe that it should be. The leniency of uniform in public schools can have a vast amount of negative and also positive impact on direction, influence and guidance with both the teachers and students alike. Public schools grant children and teens the opportunity to learn and grow together but without uniform sometimes a disruption can be created against that unity. School is apart of the developmental learning and growth that prepares its students for adult hood; one way to ensure that is to practice discipline, which I believe uniform compliments. None uniform clothing can shine light on a lot of things; some students and even teachers can potentially fall under the wrong light that may result into them being a target for bullying. This is why we see "fast fashion" stores such as H&M, Gap, Zara, Forever 21 and Uniqlo, cycling through the clothing they have in their stores very quickly. Because of the constant change in fashion trends, such stores are in an extremely competitive battle to be the most successful in their field. Competitiveness in this industry is broken down into five forces, a theory invented by acclaimed Harvard business professor Michael Porter. First is the threat of new entrants, which is a high threat considering that anyone can make a brand and try to enter the industry. But, as for "fast fashion" stores this is a low threat because unless someone was to enter the industry with a huge amount of capital, there is no possible way they could even come close to the magnitude of already established stores. So, given these circumstances I would say the overall threat level is a medium, and this level is going to stay the same. The next force is power of suppliers. This is a low risk because of the abundance of global raw material suppliers and the purchase of materials with low levels of differentiation in terms of price and quality. Most of these companies control their suppliers as well, so that in it self makes the power of the suppliers almost none existent. The only time where the supplier could put the company at risk is if the quality of the products is subpar to expectation, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the increasing demand for cheap and affordableclothing, the background of fair trade and sweatshops is often overlooked, as well as the disregard for the waste that goes back into the environment. Consumers benefit from lower prices but at the cost of unsafe conditions, poor wages, and environmental damages. In order to address this problem and inform the masses on the source of their products, brands should accept responsibility for educating consumers, and non–governmental organizations and government legislation should add fashion sustainability to their agenda. Although the problem may be oceans away, it is a fundamental issue that we still need to address. With an increase in popularity of online shopping, it's become so much faster to get what you want and when you want it. In 2016, he had his female models walk the runway with another model strapped to them. In 2002, Raf Simons had his models walk down the runway wearing balaclavas holding lit flares. The purpose of a runway show is to display the designer's talents and explore the theme of that season's ready to wear line. The clothing featured in runway shows is not supposed to be worn outside of the runway. Fashion is art. Designers paint the body with fabric similar to the way an artist paints a canvas. Designer's express themselves through the creation of their clothing shown off on the runway. These ideas are then reflected in the ready to wear lines that go on sale. Diverse concepts have materialized in order to find solutions for the problem. Ecology and sustainable growth have been confirmed to be the main solutions currently. Innovations for sustainable growth include: creation of hybrid cars, recycling and minor discharge of carbon dioxide in factories among others (Christ 23). Environmental awareness was also introduced to the world of fashion, unfortunately, it wasn't very successful; lately there has been a change of situation and that is what we are going to attempt to understand. For almost twenty years now, people have been relying on fast fashion, a fairly new notion, which ... It is a dilemma. Finding an exact definition for the terms "sustainable fashion". "Green", "Eco fashion" to a name a few, is close to impossible. We all have the impression everyone understands it the same way but it is false, it has different meanings for all of us. The word sustainability itself implies some sort of length, in the sense that something can last long, it also. Here are some of the definitions people have of sustainable fashion: "Quality items that stand the test of time – it is this concept of sustainability, symbolized by a timeless handbag that you wear again and again, and can pass on, that I am always thinking of when I design." Says Frida Gianni Accessories are a very important part of fashion and should be considered so a good example for this definition of sustainable would be the Hermes' Birkin bag. • 32. Differences Between Modernism And Postmodernism There are a lot of differences between modernism and postmodernism. The first is that modernism began in the late 19th century and lasted until the 20th century, specifically from the year 1890s to 1945. According to Oak (2008), "... modernism and postmodernism highlights the difference in the approaches towards life." A good example would be, during the modernist era rational and logical thinking was encouraged as well as being objective and postmodernism does not and is subjective. My chosen major is fashion designing. The purpose of fashion to me is an artistic way of self–expression, it is not only shown through clothing, but a large variety of things like one's hair, personality and even plastic surgery! It is because, self–expression is more than just what you wear but a way to show your "personality" through fashion. Jameson (1998, 1) stated, "The concept of postmodernism is not widely accepted or even understood today." It is not accepted especially for the fashion industry and there are people who still do not accept fashion as a form of art in the postmodernism era but also during the modernist era, Paul Poiret stated "Am I a fool when I dream of putting art into my dresses, a fool when I say dressmaking is an art? ... It seems to be that we practice the same craft, and that they are my fellow workers." The women began wearing Western –style dresses, because they were less expensive and easier to care for than kimonos (The World Book Encyclopedia [J], 48) Western Clothing in Japan Here is how Western fashion has dominated Japan: Men usually wear Western–style suits for work and out on the street. They also wear Western clothes when going out or relaxing at home Fashion–conscious teenage girls are fond of wearing pink and other super–feminine clothes whereas older women, being brought in the workforce during the peak of Japan's bubble economy during the 1980's, have become fond of luxury designer items and high fashion, which can sometimes be noted through the suits they wear for work. Women who have high positions in global corporations usually wear designer suits, the designer usually being either European or American. There aren't usually any rules when it comes what to wear, and women are granted the freedom to choose what they would prefer to wear. Women generally enjoy this aspect of society, since many things are still controlled. Unlike the Elizabethan women, modern women prefer to wear jeans on an average day. Glass Ceiling Of Business GLASS CEILINGS IN BUSINESS Pants today are globally worn by both men and women, however, behind this piece of material reveals the symbol of equality between both genders. The significance of pants worn by women signifies the many challenges women went through to get to this role of equality. Centuries ago, women did not have the same rights as men. Women wearing pants was a process in history that women fought long for. The revolution of women's clothing from bloomers and corsets, to comfort and sensibility, helped advance women's role in society, and add to quality of life. Women were expected to maintain the stereotype as a housewife. Women generally did not take part in any workforces, they were expected to stay home, and take care of the children. Whatever your impression of fashion, it is obvious that fashion plays an important role in today's society. We are judged by our clothing and appearance on an everyday basis, so why not make the most of our choices? Everyday, we see hundreds of people. Whether we see them on the street, at work, at school, or on television, people pass through our visual field. Fortunately or unfortunately, we judge these people. It may be intentional, it may be unintentional, or it may be somewhat intentional, but we form opinions about people based on their style of dress. For example, a man with dreadlocks and tight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People also utilize fashion as a way to be judged – or not be judged. Some people dress in high–end, fashionable clothing to show that they take care of themselves and want to stand out in a positive way. Others may wear clothes that allow them to hide – plain jeans and tops that allow someone to blend into a crowd. This shows that both making a statement and trying not to make a statement actually do end up making a statement – although trying not to make a statement states that you don't want to be noticed. Some people utilize fashion as a means of self definition. For example, for some people, brand names carry intrinsic value. A person may wear Burberry frequently. Why? The brand makes the person feel connected to the fashion that she loves. It does not matter that the person could buy about ten shirts at Kohl's for the price of one Burberry piece – the Burberry piece gives a person self esteem and pride in her appearance. On the other side of the coin, some people do not care about fashion, and while this is fine, does not necessarily serve the person well. People are often judged by their lack of fashion sense. Even though people may not judge others by bad fashion sense on the surface, the issue does come up in the matters of job promotions and future success.
