Pan American Unity Mural Summary
Pan American Unity Mural what a discovery to find and look at the story being told in visual
language. It shows the fusion of two cultures coming together. Diego Rivera and his assistants worked
together on The Pan American Unity Mural in 1940 it consists of 10 panels weighting about 23 tons at
22 feet high by 74 feet long. It now resides at City College of San Francisco located in a narrow lobby
called Diego Rivera Theater . A fresco rich in symbolism showing the south and the indigenous people
expressing their rich culture of their artistic work by sculpting images on stone and showing metal

Gambia Essay
One of the major factors in a state s development is the natural resources which it possesses within its
shores. The Gambia possesses few natural resources and the infrastructure for processing these
resources is underdeveloped. One of the most abundant resources of the Gambia is the various types
of sand which it possesses. The quartz sand which lies on the beaches and bank of the Gambia River is
of a high quality and is perfect for the creation of glass. The government is currently attempting to
gain investors to buy the quartz sand which they possess. The Gambia also possesses heavy mineral
sand which contains metals such as titanium and zirconium which have not been exploited to a very
great degree but are thought to be found in quantities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the economies of these two countries have had a large impact on their levels of
development. The Gambia has an economy based primarily ecotourism now, but throughout most of
its recent history it has been dependent on agriculture and even now has around twenty percent of its
GDP being generated by agriculture. As agriculture does not generally produce a large amount of
wealth it does not give the average citizen wealth enough for investments, education, and healthcare
which promote development. Also, agriculture does not require a large amount of formal schooling
and, as such, it does not promote government investment in education. Ireland, on the other hand, has
an economy dependent on idea based jobs which generally require a larger amount of schooling,
prompting more government investment in education which increases development. Also, as the idea
based jobs which the Irish economy is founded on generates more wealth, it allows for citizens of
Ireland to spend money on items of personal welfare, increasing the citizens health, education, and
access to

Charles Manson Compare And Contrast
Charles Manson early life was complicated with the fact that when Manson was born his mother was a
16 year old, unmarried, Manson s biological father was speculated to be Colonel Walker Scott though,
young lady name Kathleen Maddox and after such said birth Manson was already called Charles
Milles Maddox. At the age of 8 Manson was sent to a school called the National Training School for
Boys by his mother who he ran back to after run away from the school, but his mother wanted nothing
to do with him. Soon after Manson started living on the streets and lived by doing petty crimes that
would lead him to juvenile. By 1951, Manson was considered dangerous and a model prisoner in

(Florez). With this being said, this goal is similar to what Grenouille and Manson wanted, to be
remembered even after death. Grenouilles goal was to require the ultimate scent to be accepted by his
town or anywhere else he goes. Mansons goal was to let the world be shocked by the crimes that he
and his group committed. Perhaps that this trait does influence serial killers to kill freely, but when
doing such acts the question someone must ask is the murderer regret what they have done? If
someone has killed another person for a reason, for example self defense, then that is a common
murder to report, but in Grenouilles and Mansons case they did not report the murder because they felt
as though that killing the victim was necessary. Psychopaths tend to not feel any emotion that is
related to guilt... (Uncategorized). In Perfume the killings that Grenouille committed goes beyond of
what Manson has done up until both of their deaths. However, the reason why they killed in the first
place do compare because of their childhood with the way they were both raised and how society has
treated them. Although their stories before they became serial killers are similar, there is not anything
else to compare the two on because Grenouille was smart, sneaky, and worked by himself with each
kill when Manson on the other hand trusted individuals to kill with him and those same individuals
would later

The Homeric Device of inset narrative The Homeric Device of inset narrative is evident in the Tale of
Bellerophon and is revealed through Glaukos personal philosophy and the theme of divine
intervention. In the latter, the reader gets to understand more about Glaukos way of thinking.
Conversely, the theme of divine intervention is manifested in the text and reveals more about the
relationship between man and the gods. The tale of Bellerophon as told by his son to Diomedes

Dostoevsky s The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment
God Answers the Questions Presented by Dostoevsky s The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and
Punishment
In Dostoevsky s novels pain and some heavy burden of the inevitability of human suffering and
helplessness form Russia. And he depicts it not with white gloves on, nor through the blisters of the
peasant, but through people who are close to him and his realities: city people who either have faith,
or secular humanists who are so remote from reality that even when they love humanity they despise
humans because of their own inability to achieve or to create paradise on earth. His novels The
Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment are best examples of the poisonous effect of such
ideals on the common man. The rebellion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is not the love that is directed towards the humanity as a whole, but towards the individual: Strive
to love your neighbor actively and indefatigably (II, 4). For Dostoevsky such love is a false one and he
presents it through such characters as Rakitin, Perkhotin and even Luzhin:
Consciousness of life is superior to life, knowledge of the laws of happiness is superior to happiness
that is what we must fight against. (The Dream of a Ridiculous Man , p. 382)
One of greatest evils for Dostoevsky are the so called liberals who love humanity more than an
individual man. Yet he does not represent their behavior as genuinely evil . Their hate towards
humanity arises exactly from the opposite: love. Secular humanists see so much evil, crime and
inhumanity, they cannot stop it so they rebel. Ivan Karamazov and his rebellion are purely of that
kind. He is not vile, he just cannot understand that there might be a solution for such suffering,
especially in the case of children who are innocent in Christianity. That is why Ivan asks:
Love life more than the meaning of it? (II, 3)
Ivan as any average intellectual, wants to know. To know the meaning of life for him is more
important than to actually do something about the human suffering. Ivan forgets that one human life is
as important as the entire humanity. For him humanity is merely an abstraction which happen to be
surrounding him.

Why Did The Stock Market Crash Of 1929
he eventual crash of the stock market altogether did not occur in one or two days, the crash was
several weeks of dropping prices, of course with the occasional fluctuation up, but inevitable to drop
once more. Leading up to the crash of the stock market many investors were playing the game of the
stock market by buying stock on margin. Buying on margin was essentially buying stock son credit, an
imaginary monetary value in a sense. Those using credit for stock and share purchases were, in a sense
promising that they would pay the amount eventually. This type of purchasing didn t actually give the
companies selling the stocks any real money. When prices of stocks continued to rise throughout the
20 s eventually peaking in the year of 1929,

Poverty Is A Problem Of Poverty
Poverty has been one problem that all societies have had to deal with in some form or another. Poverty
is a complex issue that has many different aspects that affect the people involved. The complexity of it
is why it has been a difficult problem for people to solve. The negative stigma associated with poverty
is one of the most difficult aspects to change. With enough education and knowledge, poverty will one
day be a problem of the past.
Many people have different opinions on what poverty means. There are two types of poverty, absolute
and relative. Absolute poverty is when the people affected can t provide themselves with the
necessities they need such as shelter, food, water, etc. Relative poverty is poverty in which the people
affected are provided with the necessities but live below the standards of others. Relative poverty has
changed over time throughout the world. In most cases the relative standard of poverty throughout the
world is rising higher and higher. The United States is one of the places in the world that the standard
of living for people in poverty is above that of other people.
An estimated one in seven people in the United States live in poverty. Although there are some that
live with some aspect of absolute poverty at times, the large portion of poverty in America is relative.
Almost all poor people in the U.S. have a telephone. Most also have air conditioning, cable, a vehicle
and a wide screen TV. In ancient times the people who suffered from poverty

The Soviet Union
Gain of Prestige The Soviet Union was already setting up a unique standard of gender roles and
gender equality, so the reinforced emphasis on fertility created an interesting return to traditional
gender stereotypes. Despite the resurgence of the traditional ideal, the 1936 Decree was able to
emphasize motherhood and nurturing without limiting women to the more feminine role. Instead, what
occurred was the super heroine role, where the women s maternity and industrial capital were both
valued. Women were given both higher recognition for their role as a mother and also allowed to
remain independent through her industrial power. The emphasis on the mother figure was seen
throughout the whole 1936 decree, but most blatantly through the Mother Heroine awards. The
Mother Heroine awards were an official government run propaganda scheme set up by the Stalinist
regime, in the form of medals given out to mothers based on the amount of children they had. A
mother with five to six children received a Motherhood Medal. A mother with seven to nine children
received a Mother Glory award, and a mother with ten or more children gained the highest
achievement, the Mother Heroine award. Those who received the Mother Heroine award were also
given a special certificate of the Praesidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The Mother Heroine
awards didn t offer economic compensation for child bearing, but they did offer official, government
approved stamps of prestige for

The Argument Against The Hip-Hop Group Public Enemy
Imagine a mind changing tour into ghetto life in the United States, the drugs, the violence, the
hopelessness. Think about political movements, riots, cries for change. Think of some of the greatest
modern artists among us. All these ideas stem from, bring awareness of, and originate in classic hip
hop. The advocacy of societal change, the inspiration its artists got from their songs, and its impact on
future artists have cemented Classic hip hop as the most influential music genre of all time.
Classic hip hop s debatable and political content advocates for societal change. The explicit content
which permeated classic hip hop was something that the music industry hadn t experienced yet.
However, many of these rap protest records are not without cause. An anthem of anger for blacks

part in a fictional trial against the L.A.P.D ( N.W.A. ). The song highlights offenses of brutality among
police to the minorities living in such areas. By addressing a relevant and scary issue at the time, its
lyrics ignited victims of such heinous crimes. In turn, it called for a ... Show more content on

lies within these areas of the United States, which many Americans are oblivious to. By highlighting
our biggest downfalls as people, many classic hip hop songs can inspire both the insider and outsider

Six Degrees Of Separation Case Analysis
There is a common belief that every person on the planet is connected through a chain of five people.
Using this phenomenon, scam artist Pau, from Six Degrees of Separation (1993), was able to con
wealthy families by pretending to be their children`s friend from college. Paul, however, became
attached to one of these families the Flan and Ouisa Kittredge since he became Flan`s son.
From this first encounter with the Kittredges, Paul immediately begins acting as if he were Flan`s son.
After Paul first barges into the Kittredges door due to a fake mugging, he immediately treats Flan as if
he were his father by cooking and cleaning for him. For Flan, this treatment causes Paul to fill the void
of his children at college, so Flan also begins treating Paul as a son. For instance, Flan gives Paul a
pink shirt that belonged to his son Woody. The shirt however, had sentimental value to Woody as his
father gave him the shirt when he realized that Woody had become muscular. The shirt, which
represented Flan`s love, was passed from Woody to Paul, signifying that Paul slowly replaced Woody
as Flan`s son. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Paul decides to scam a couple he met in Central Park, he concocts an elaborate story in which
Flan is his father. He claimed that he was a product from Flan`s hippie, radical days as a freedom
marcher and that Flan abandoned his mother after Paul`s birth. Due to the story`s intricacy, Paul most
likely believed that the story was true and that he was in fact Flan`s son. Moreover, when asked his
real name by Ouisa, Paul claims that his real name is Paul Portier Kittredge . Also, during this phone
call, Paul reveals to Ouisa that he felt a special bond to the Kittredge and hoped to become just like
Flan by becoming an art dealer. Paul`s idolization of Flan suggests his desire to become Flan`s

Death Is A Bit Taboo
The idea of death is a bit taboo, however it is the unspoken reality of life. Naturally, there comes a
time when you will no longer be a part of the ever evolving world physically and it will be your time
to die. The question that has arisen is whether or not an individual s unbearable pain should constitute
them to request death. A person should not have to be hooked up to machines in order to be kept alive,
if that is not what they want; they should be able to choose death.
Perhaps when Patrick Henry stated, Give me liberty or give me death he was not referring to assisted
suicide but the principles still remain the same. Our society was built on the principles of life, liberty
and the pursuit of happiness; lying in a bed while incapacitated is not living, freedom or happiness.
The idea of assisted suicide is to permanently end the suffering of an individual after every other
opinion has been exhausted and it allows the patient to take control of their lives. When an individual
becomes terminally ill many options regarding their health is placed in the doctor s hands and the
individual s family s hands, leaving the sick patient without control over their body and over their life.
When the patient loses control regarding their healthcare and their health continues to decline without
improvement, the thought of suicide rises because the individual wants to simply escape their pain and
suffering. However, due to the fact that in many states assisted suicide is illegal,

The Trauma of Killing Essay
The United States military continues to engage in one of the longest periods of combat operations in
our nation s history. One of the results is an increase in the amount of persons suffering Post traumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD). According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA) (2000), a precursor
to PTSD is the experience of an event or events that involved actual or threatened death or serious
injury to self or others. Grossman (2009) argues that an additional factor, the emotional and spiritual
response to killing another human being, also takes a tremendous toll on the mental health of returning
soldiers. Forty eight to sixty five percent of soldiers returning from Operation Enduring Freedom have
reported killing an enemy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to their role as the official motto of the United States Military Academy at West Point, the
words Duty, Honor, (and) Country serve to embody the conditioning that each recruit, both officer and
enlisted, undergoes in all military branches. Each soldier is taught that they have an absolute
responsibility to their fellow soldiers and the country they serve and to fail to uphold that
responsibility can never be justified. This fear of failure, writes Grossman (2009) is one of the primary
means the military uses to overcome soldier s innate aversion to killing other human beings. It is also
the fear that allows soldier s to overcome the fear of death and take heroic actions (Nash, 2007). When
a soldier perceives he has failed to live up to these standards, shame may result.
The Stages of Killing
Grossman (2009) writes that killing involves a series of emotions, beginning with concern before the
killing, and followed by exhilaration, remorse, rationalization, and acceptance following the killing.
Before a soldier kills for the first time, he or she will often have concerns regarding whether he or she
will satisfactorily perform his or her duties or will let down fellow fighters by freezing or in some
other fashion failing to properly engage the enemy. This fear of failure is generally mixed with the
general fear of being killed or injured and

Descriptive Essay On The House In My House
A SIKH In the living room, the cuckoo clock said, Ticktock, seven thirty o clock, time to get up, time
to get up, seven thirty o clock! As if the cuckoo clock is afraid, nobody, in the house would wake up.
The living room is like a perfect, black and white, cover. I had always been afraid to sit, in the living
room, in case I wrinkle the fabric or stain it. The couch is cream but inlaid with a fine green silk, and
leaves embroidered so delicately that they might have landed there in spring and just sunk in, but I
know they took hundreds of hours to sew. The black curtains are linen, the kind of black that is
untouched by hands and devoid of dust. A cursory look to the right shows me the almost hidden cords
that are used to open and close them. In the living room, there is no television, no dining table, only
the chairs arranged around the bespoke fireplace which leaps with a gas flame. The photographs are
black and white, not casual family pictures, but arranged to look like such by a professional, anyone of
them wouldn t look out of place. The floor is a high polished wood, dark and free of either dust or
clutter. I always felt like this was my home. I belong here. The sound of the cuckoo clock saying,
Ticktock, seven thirty o clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven thirty o clock! Repeating in my
mind. The early morning sun was already well risen, and the spring grass shone like it had its own
gentle glow from within. The breeze from the open window felt

Ginseng Essay
Ginseng is a popular medicinal herb used in various forms and for various purposes.

NICE Review Essay
Impact of the NICE guideline recommending cessation of antibiotic prophylaxis for prevention of
infective endocarditis: before and after study: A Review Thornhill et al. s article on the cessation of
antibiotic prophylaxis and its impact on infective endocarditis examined, both, prescriptions for
antibiotics of a standard premedication dose (3g amoxicillin or 600mg clindamycin) and diagnoses or
deaths due to infective endocarditis between January 2000 and April 2010. The time frame chosen for
this study was critical due to the release of updated NICE guidelines, stating providers should cease
use of any antibiotic prophylaxis for dental and other medical procedures. By examining the time
surrounding the NICE guidelines, the researchers hoped to evaluate any relationship between
premedicative prescriptions and incidents of infective endocarditis. They hypothesized that in order to
see evidence that the NICE guidelines were valid, there would be minimal to no change in rate of
infective endocarditis after the NICE guidelines became effective compared to before, even though the
amount of prescription decreased. The researchers felt that this study was necessary due to the limited

Social Media And Public Administration
In their article Social Media and Public Administration: Theoretical Dimensions and Introduction to
the Symposium, published in 2011 in Administrative Theory Praxis Vol. 33, Iss. 3, pp. 325 340,
authors Thomas A. Bryer and Staci M. Zavatarro introduce the rising trend of social media use in
public administration, in both government agencies and nonprofits. As public administration scholars
and practitioners themselves, the authors sought to analyze these trends further, and to explore more
comprehensively how social media technologies are utilized in public organizations, as well as these
methods outcomes. The article is laid out as follows: First, the authors attempt to define social media;
second, they identify common challenges and obstacles that public organizations face when utilizing
social media tools ; and finally, they identify areas for future research. The authors hope that
ultimately their research will provide assistance to those public administration practitioners interested
in successfully utilizing social media. The authors first task in their research was to come up with a
mutually agreed upon and easy to understand definition of social media. For a starting or base
definition, the authors cite the Federal Web Managers Council (FWMC), a group of federal

put the grade like a bonus for us. In conclusion, students should come to classes every day to know
about their subject and take a high degree. The degree with a high grade is a very good for their future.
I suggest students to come to their classes even to no be a problem with their parents. When the

In New England, however, because of the lack of need for labor there were very few black slaves and
everyone was relatively equal. A large difference between New England and the Southern colonies is
that when people moved to the New England regions many of them came in communities and
families. In the South because of the many individuals, there was a shortage of women and therefore
population did not grow as quickly. This expansion of cities in the New England colonies led to the
founding of primary and secondary schools for education. Harvard College in Massachusetts was
founded eighty six years before the first college in Virginia. In the South, the few and spread out cities
led to a slow development of schools and many children had tutors instead of attending school. These
two very different social structures developed the character of the regions. As these colonies began to
grow there became a need for a government and the two regions approached this in different ways.
The Southern colonies prohibited taxes unless they were enforced by the grand assembly while New
Englanders kept the right to tax locally whenever the need came. Also, the New England colonies
placed much of their emphasis on town meetings. These meeting were attended by white males and
they demonstrated the democracy that is seen in today s United States. In the Southern colonies the
people were less enthusiastic about democracy and many of them were ruled by colonial

Streaking Allows Bacteria Colonies To Grow Well Separate...
1 Streaking allows bacteria colonies to grow well separated from each other. The aim of the procedure
is to obtain single isolated pure colonies.
2 Only 1 bacterial cell is needed to start a colony. The cells use binary fission to divide, the microbes
DNA splits to form a new cell and this process repeats until there are billions of cells.
3 The members of the colony are genetically identical because binary fission produces two identical
daughter cells.

sources of error could be that the streaking was too close together resulting in an unsuccessful
isolation, the loop was not flamed adequately which permitted carryover of bacteria from one sector to

Literary Essay Of The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant
Literary Analysis Essay of The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant
The Necklace is a morality tale written by Guy de Maupassant where he portrays the life of a beautiful
but dissatisfied girl named Mathilde who desires to live a luxurious life despite being born into a clerk
s family and marrying a clerk too. Mathilde s discontentment in life instigates her to pretend someone
rich that she is not. Moreover, it leads her to severe trouble that caused ten years of hardship to
Mathilde and her husband. So, this suffering is a punishment for Mathilde which taught her a lesson
and changed her dramatically over the course of the story by making her a person of completely

But later in the story her discontentment caused her to terrible problem and sealed her fate. The
necklace of Madame Forestier has been lost. It is her discontent that caused her to borrow the necklace
which she lost. But it is an irony of fate that Mathilde and her husband faced 10 years of hardship for
nothing but a fake necklace which cost at most only five hundred francs. (6) For this necklace they
repaid a debt of thirty six thousand francs. (5) If Mathilde and her husband had admitted to Madame
Forestier about the truth of losing the necklace then the consequences would have been different and
they would have avoided the hardship. This relates with another morality of the story which is to tell
the truth. Thereafter, by learning a lesson from her doings there was a great transformation in Mathilde
s character from beginning to end of the story. After giving the diamond necklace to Forrestier she
knew they have to live a horrible (5) life of the needy. (5) . Thus with sudden heroism (5) she decided
to repay the debt taken for that necklace and dismissed their servant, changed their lodgings and
rented a garret under the roof. (5) The woman who valued her youth and beauty the most lost it and
became the woman of impoverished household strong and hard and rough. (5) But sometimes she

Impact Of Technology On The Music Industry
Over the years, music has become portable, starting with the transistor to a set of headphones.
Technology has allowed us to create a diverse musical culture. Music will always have an effect on
one s culture, and it has definitely mad a huge impact on the use of technology. Cultural diversity is
about bringing people closer together though the World Wide Web. Many music publishers are the key
to cultural diversity when it comes to publishing all genres. They will increasingly continue to play a
part in promoting diversity by bringing music of all kinds and forms to the music market. The way we
access and listen to music has changed a lot in the music industry. For some, it may seem easier to
download your favorite song from your favorite artist, but there are rules to the file sharing and
downloading of music. Before there was file sharing, people would gather in concert halls for
impressive music from some of the best known composers of all time. Today, there has been an
abundance of ways to access and listen to music, in writing this paper, my goal is to discuss copyright
laws, file sharing, and the progression of how we access music.
Before we reached the electronic musical era, there was good old fashion concert halls. People would
gather together in the concert halls to see many different composers perform, all from which were in
different eras; the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic era. By the year 1877, Thomas Edison had
discovered how to record and reproduce sound

Concrete Filled Tubular ( Cft ) Column
The steel tube in a concrete filled tubular (CFT) column acts as both lateral and longitudinal
reinforcement, and is thus subjected to hoop tension and biaxial stresses of longitudinal compression.
At the same time, concrete is tri axially stressed. Concrete filled tubular (CFT) column has become
popular as structural member in buildings due to their excellent performance for structural
characteristics, which include high ductility, stiffness, and high strength. The advantages of the
Concrete filled tubular (CFT) column over other composite members are that the filled in concrete
prolongs local buckling of the steel tube wall, the steel tube provides formwork for the concrete, the
tube prevents excessive concrete spalling and composite columns add more stiffness to a frame
compared to old style steel frame construction. According to past study on the concentric compression
behavior of Concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns, the ultimate axial strength of Concrete filled
tubular (CFT) columns is largely affected by the thickness of the steel tube and the shape of its cross
section Although confining effect in square columns show a small increase in axial strength due to
triaxial effects, although it has large wall thicknesses. On the other hand, the axial load and
deformation behavior of columns is remarkably affected by the cross sectional shape, diameter/width
to thickness ratio (D/t) of the steel tube, and the strength of the filled concrete.

Social Cognitive Theory And Social Involvement Theory
Involvement Theory
The involvement theory discusses the amount and level of energy, time, and participation spent
engaged in a particular activity (Lee, Lee Yoo, 2004). Witmer and Singer (1998) defined involvement
as a psychological state experienced as a consequence of focusing one s energy and attention on a
coherent set of stimuli or meaningfully related activities and events (p. 226). The involvement theory
has been used in various disciplines including student involvement, product involvement, and
customer involvement. Rocha Flores et al. (2014) posited that the lack of security awareness or
knowledge among users is an indicator of a low level of information security involvement. According
to Safa et al. (2016) information security knowledge sharing, collaboration, and experience represents
the level of effort, participation and time that users engage in security activities, hence they represent
levels of involvement. Therefore this study will incorporate knowledge sharing, collaboration, and
experience as a measure of involvement to determine their impact on users technology threat
avoidance motivation and further avoidance behavior.
Social Cognitive Theory The social cognitive theory (SCT), formerly known as the social learning
theory (Bandura, 1986) is widely used in the understanding of learning processes. SCT originated
from the areas of psychology and communication and has been used in understanding computer
behavior (Shillair et al., 2015; Cho, Lee, Chung, 2010; Compeau Higgins, 1995; Workman, Bommer,
Straub, 2008; Yi Im, 2004). SCT postulates that human behavior is a dynamic relationship where
cognitive factors and environmental influences interact with behavior factors (Bandura, 1986, 1991,
1997). SCT assists in building confidence and self efficacy, as users learn through observation or
vicarious experiences (Anderson Agarwal, 2010; Bandura, 1991). This learning experience is
influence by the environmental factor, social norm.
Prior computer security related studies examine social influence as a predictor of user behavior
(Culnan Williams, 2009; Hu, Dinev, Hart, Cooke, 2012; Lowry Moody, 2015; Posey et al., 2013 ;
Vance et al., 2013). However, many of these studies

Society In The Belly Of Paris, By Emile Zola
In the modern Paris, society is divided into different classes of people, different jobs, and different
features of modern life. The Belly of Paris, written by, Émile Zola is about a man named Florent who
was wrongly put in prison from Louis Napoleon s coup d etat. He escapes from prison and returns
from the countryside to find an unrecognizable Paris. The Belly of Paris describes the class differences
in the 1870s there is the bourgeoisie, which is defined as the middle class, typically with reference to
its perceived materialistic values or conventional attitudes; the capitalist class who own most of
society s wealth and means of production contrasted with the lower working class. By portraying and

also in opposition to the bourgeois who are devoted to the government of the Second Empire. As Lisa
keeps consuming food, she increases her status and reputation as one of the virtuous, honest citizens
responsible for keeping an eye on Florent and others who are thin and suspicious. As a result of having
money, she has power, influence, and is respected by others. Her power and influence gives her status
and reputation in the Les Halles market community. Through the description of the market politics and
society, Zola portrays Lisa as someone who everyone strives to be, except for some of the Thin
people. The Thin believe the Fat are corrupted and are taking more than their share of the wealth and
power. Lisa is one part of the political power dynamic, the other side is Florent a juxtaposition of the
Fat and Thin. Florent was seen as the outcast of modern Paris because he was thin and also because he
had been in prison. He had reconnected with his brother, Quenu, and met his family and they [Quenu,

Women In Macbeth And Of Mice And Men
How are women presented in Macbeth Of Mice Men?
Shakespeare and Steinbeck present their female characters in a misogynistic light. To compare the
respective pieces we must consider several factors, which acted as a driving force towards the
portrayal of the female characters in their respective texts.
Shakespeare presents Lady Macbeth as a character who steers away from the stereotypical
characteristics of women derived by the societal norms of an Elizabethan society. These three
characteristics include: being a faithful and practicing Christian, being submissive to one s husband,
and a good caretaker. In Macbeth, the stereotypical roles are reversed, so Lady Macbeth performs the
dominating role in the relationship. To take her nurturing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Curley s wife clearly states I don t like Curley he aint a nice fellow. Lady Macbeth however deeply
expresses her love for Macbeth and uses this love and fondness for each other to attain their
simultaneous goals. On the other hand it could be argued that Lady Macbeth is completely guided by
her desire to gain self profit like Curley s wife. Macbeth initially remains thoughtful by saying I have
no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition . Later on in the text Macbeth
comes to rejecting the idea Lady Macbeth taunts his masculinity and plays on his weak state of mind
to make him accept the idea of regicide. So she may not be as loyal as she poses to be. Although
fidelity is a reasonably big factor it does not outweigh how evil Shakespeare has portrayed Lady
Macbeth, as she wants to commit murder. Her ambition is telling us that Shakespeare thinks women
are evil and breaking the rules results in death and likewise with Steinbeck. So to summarize, the
ambitions themselves are too different to be directly compared, but it is the causes, effects and
portrayal of ambition that allow one to examine the difference between the two pieces. In Of Mice and
Men, ambition can never be achieved; it is just a dream, which one strives for. In Macbeth, ambition
can be achieved but never enjoyed, as Shakespeare never allows his characters to stop and enjoy their
achievement. Finally we can conclude that Shakespeare s writing is more against the opposite sex as
he presents Lady Macbeth as immoral since she coaxed Macbeth to commit murder. Whereas Curley s
Wife isn t as moral to a certain extent depending on the ambiguous line of morality and whether
adultery was considered immoral to a 1930 s

Essay Comparing The Tempest And This Lime Tree Bower My...
The process of discovery can be hidden and unexpected, having the potential to expand one s
understanding of the world around them and enhance their desire to reconsider what is known. This is
evident in the play, The Tempest by William Shakespeare, composed during the renaissance and
humanism era, and the poem, This Lime Tree Bower my Prison by Samuel Coleridge, written during
the romanticism era. Both these texts explore similar aspects whereby the protagonists is forced into a
vulnerable position and the barrier of their conflicted minds obstructs them from forming new
perceptions. The Tempest accentuates the importance of integrating worlds to develop positive
interactions and overcome conflicts. Similarly, Coleridge s poem highlights ... Show more content on

Persuasive Essay On Paying For College
Paying for College When entering high school many students already know what they want to do
when they grow up ; however, many students do not know how they will pay for the college education
to get them there. Some students will strive for the best grades possible to earn scholarship money to
have college funded for them, others will mess around, and end up wishing they had tried harder, and
having to pay for college themselves. Those students will have to have a job during college to be able
to afford books, tuition, and any other fun things they might wish to do while they are away from
home at college. College students working to pay for college tuition or pay off college debt have less
entitlement, more responsibility, and take greater pride in their education; however, college students
who have their college fully funded may feel more entitled around the college campus, have less focus
towards studies, and spend more time at parties, finally they will never understand how much their
education was truly worth. While each student may receive the same education, the values and
attitudes each student has can be even more valuable than the college education itself. Being a young
college student takes a lot of dedication and responsibility; however, being a college student and
working a job to pay for college at the same time takes even more responsibility and dedication.
Students must take accountability for themselves, being able to turn in assignments, study for

Exclusion of component units alters the state s financial statement in such a way that it would present
misleading or incomplete ( Office of Financial Management , 2012).
Just for clarity, according to Governmental Accounting Standards Board (2013), the financial
reporting entity consists of (a) the primary government; (b) organizations for which the primary
government is financially accountable; and (c) other organizations for which the nature and
significance of their relationship with the primary government are such that exclusion would cause the
reporting entity s financial statements to be misleading or incomplete (Summary of Statement No. 14
The Financial Reporting Entity (Issued 6/91)).
With that in mind, governments are likely to construct separate legal entities to perform governmental
duties. For example, the City of Detroit has nine legally separated organizations, which make up their
component units. For instance, the Economic Development Corporation, and Museum of African
American History are two of the nine component units included in the government reporting

and prescribes the recommended treatment. For example, the Statement of Financial Accounting

Internet addiction has become a huge problem in today s society. In Greg Beato s article, he discusses

Large Scale Change in Business
The business model is a design for a successful operation in business, identifying revenue sources,
customer base, product and details of financing. It describes the method of how an organization or

The module, therefore, includes the components and functions of a business.

Short term plans There are several factors that should be considered before starting a business. These
factors could be personal, social, environmental, cultural among others. Some of these factors include
changing one s standard of living, start up cost among other factors. The financial state of the
company must be considered before starting a business or expanding it to other places. At this stage,
one considers business loans from financial institutions. Such institutions could be banks, finance

Negative Effects Of Urban Development On The Environment...
Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the
encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes. At
Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in
California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man made problems have caused
mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife,
water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The
beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa Monica Pier in
1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being
poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land
developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash
that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which
devastate the marine life population.

Contemporary Criticism InJezebel, Drums Along The Mohawk,...
Contemporary criticism reflects the current audiences that are viewing the subject and their mindsets.
Early movies specifically needed to know their audiences, as the reception they received could make
or break actors, directors, and even entire studios. However, a movie viewed in modern times can have
a completely different effect on the viewer than the original intended audience. Specifically movies,
such as the ones shown here, that are based on historical events. In the order of the years they were
released, Jezebel, Drums Along the Mohawk, and Unconquered, all focus on romantic relationships,
and the different historical periods they are dropped into. Each of these movies take a drastically
different look at their characters, despite their similar, specific, genre of romantic historical fiction.
Each review of the movies echoes this, with analysis of the characters, historic accuracy, and just
overall how compelling the story is. Firstly, Jezebel, directed by William Wyler, tells the story of Julie
Marsden (Bette Davis), a southern woman who pushes her boundaries during the antebellum period of
Louisiana. Specifically, Julie navigates how much she can stand against the conformity of her society
without loosing the love of her fiancé Preston Dillard (Henry Fonda). However, after loosing her love,
the movies second act creates a different version of Julie, as she has now become a picturesque
woman to try and win Pres back. After she learns that he now has a new wife, she

The designer baby concept is controversial because of the moral platform the term falls on and the

Abrahamic Covenant Research Paper
Introduce in Genesis 6, the Noahic Covenant is the first evidence of a covenant instituted between
God and man. The world is in sin and God uses a covenant to single out a faithful man, Noah to
cultivate a relationship with. The covenant between God and Noah begins with a request for Noah to
build an ark for his family and place only a certain number of each kind of animal on the ark. Why,
God will flood the earth, destroying all of mankind, and leave only Noah s family behind. God keeps
His word and floods the Earth and destroys all mankind except for Noah and his family. God
demonstrates his love for his creation through a covenantal promise to Noah to never to destroy the
world by flood again with a sign of rainbow in the sky. According to Busenitz, the covenant is set
forth by God with man meeting the conditions of the agreement. Chalmers states God does not default
on His covenant. Foster implies the Old Testament covenant was established a structured relationship
that was renewed across generations.

Essex s article points out that a covenant was used to establish the initial relationship between God
and Abram and his descendants. According to Genesis 11 17, God is determined to prove His love for
His creation by further intertwining Himself in a covenant with man, Abram, which will be an
example to the world. Essex s further explains the God uses the Abrahamic covenant to establish a
relationship with Abram after he met some requirements. The requirements included Abram leaving
his family in the land of Ur and going to a land that God would show Him where he would serve God.
God would satisfy the agreement by giving Abram, a blessing of land, descendants, and make Abram s

Finding The Concentration Of Hard Water Ions
Finding the Concentration of Hard Water Ions in a Water Sample Using Complexometric Titration
By: Alya Barq
CHM 2046L
22 April 2016
Abstract:
Hard water is defined as water with an excess content of ions such as Mg2+ and Ca2+. Hard water
causes a variety of problems, among them being that hard water ions can block pipes and decrease
water flow, can cause scaly deposits to form where there is water contact, and cause an increase in
utility bills due to amassed scales in water heaters. In this experiment, a sample of tap water was
tested in order to determine the concentration of Mg2+, and then this value was compared to a limit
set by the World Health Organization. In order to carry out this task, a complexometric titration was
performed in which EDTA was used as the titrant, and a solution containing the tap water sample,
buffer, indicator, and a solution of MgCl2, was the analyte. It was found that the magnesium ion
concentration in the tap water sample was close to 0 M, and this led to the belief that there was a flaw
in experimental design. Nonetheless, the evaluation of hard water ion concentration in drinking water
and tap water is very important and according to the WHO, it should always be below 500 mg/litre.
Introduction:
Water is given the name hard water when it contains significant concentrations of ions such as Mg2+
and Ca2+. In many places around the United States, significant concentrations of CaCO3 and MgCO3
dissolve into rainwater

Substance Abuse In Juveniles
The Effect of Substance Abuse in JuvenilesJuvenile substance abuse has a tremendous and far
reaching impact on society. Diagnosing and treating juvenile substance abuse can be inhibited by the
juveniles recantation of events that impact abuse; cultural disparities and peer support network are
also relevant and affect the juveniles disclosure of substance abuse. Therefore, in depth research is
imperative to obtain proper assessment tools in order to properly treat this population; human service

Elkins (2016) suggests professionals ought to become cognizant of signs and symptoms of substance
abuse. In addition, Elkins (2016) suggests professionals should become aware of available resources
and treatment options in order to properly treat adolescent drug abuse. Paino, Aletraris, and Roman
(2015) discuss the impact of evidence based practices when treating adolescents with substance abuse.
One must consider the need for treatment providers to have specialized treatment options for
adolescents ( Paino, Aletraris, and Roman 2015) Furthermore, Paino, Aletraris, and Roman (2015)
delves into medication assisted treatment providing medication to assist with cessation of drug use,
and how it s not utilized in adolescents due to age restraints. As noted by Paino, Aletraris, and Roman
(2015) treatment options for juveniles seeking to abstain from substance abuse is limited and needs

Summary Of Professor Blossom Damania
In this video Professor Blossom Damania talked about how KSHV sequence generates primers and
how the virus Herpes exist on normal healthy people. I learned that the virus is waiting for something
to go wrong so they can harm you. I also learned that KSHV was discovered because of the AIDS
epidemic, but I didn t know that Kaposi Sarcoma was around longer than that. I learned that in 1872,
Mortiz Kaposi described the cancer in Europe as blotches on the skin, which targeted older men
because they are immunosuppressed. I learned that this is because, as you age your immune system
goes down. I learned that in the 80 s there was no diagnosis of HIV so if someone show up with
Kaposi Sarcoma, the doctors would use this as a sign that they have HIV.

Examples Of Wisdom In The Iliad
Wisdom Younger men are changeable; he in his age among them, looking before and after, can see
clearly, what shall be in the interests of all. (Homer 65) This is what Menelaos, Helen s husband and
king of the Mycenaeans, addressed his army with in Book Three of the Iliad by Homer. I disagreed
with Menelaos and what he told his army. First, whether one is young or old, everyone changes one s
mind. For example, throughout the Iliad we can see that Zeus, king of the gods, changes his mind on
whether or not the gods can help in the Trojan War between the Greeks and the Trojans. At the
beginning of Book Eight, Zeus addresses the gods saying, If I catch sight of anyone slipping away
with a mind to assist the (Greeks) or the Trojans, he comes back blasted without ceremony, or else he
will be flung out of Olympos into the murk of Tartaros that lies deep down in underworld, but then he
turns around and starts interfering with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zeus, despite having years of wisdom from his many years of life, changes his mind on whether the
gods can interfere with the war. This example proves that even if one is old one can still change one s
mind. Second, wisdom, by the world s standpoint, is not based off of age, but off of cognition among
other qualities. Vivian Clayton, a neuropsychologist, did a study in the 1970 s on wisdom. After
asking retired judges and law students and professors, who would have all been considered wise, she
concluded that wisdom is based off of the cognition, compassion, and reflection of a person. Monika
Ardelt, an associate of Vivian Clayton, then proceeded to test other people asking them questions
based on cognition, compassion, and reflection. She found that her older subjects had less cognition
than her younger subjects. These experiments and studies show that wisdom, from the world s view, is
based off of cognition, among other qualities, not age. Finally, one does not have to be old to achieve

How Did Richard Daley Become Mayor
Introduction Richard Joseph Daley was mayor for about six terms and he deserved to be the mayor.
He would go through struggles, achievements, the stress of having so many elections, and complaints
from other candidates or the people of Chicago. How did Richard J. Daley s political experiences
shape him to become mayor? Richard Daley was most known for politics and working with budgets.
He expressed those hobbies while mayor. Daley was a very extraordinary man and mayor, without
him Chicago probably wouldn t be the same and neither would politics.
This is the definition of mayor:
Noun:
1. the chief executive official, usually elected, of a city, village, or town
2. the chief magistrate of a city or borough
Family and Friends Richard J. Daley was born on May 15, 1902. He was an only child and his parents
were Catholic. Daley s parents made him become an altar boy which is like a priest s assistant.
Richard J. Daley was a very religious man when he was young and older his family tried to go to
church every Sunday. When he got his own family and got married, they became Roman Catholic. He

professor in Human Geography; Eleanor Daley was a Canadian Composer and was a teacher too; and
Mary Carol Vanecko is also a teacher. Sadly, Eleanor Daley died in 1998 and she was 59 years old and
the rest of the Daley kids are now 72, 68, 66, 65, 63, and 61. They are all very old but really close to
age. I can t believe all three Daley girls were and are still teachers. Richard J. Daley would always
stand up for his family and Daley loved his family more than anything

The Animals Of Animal Animals
The animals of this world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans anymore than
black people were made for whites. Alice Walker There are many fears in the world, for one animals
are afraid of us. They probably think that we humans would hurt them. And they re actually right, we
use them for clothes, food, transportation and entertainment. For me, these are really good valid
reasons to be afraid. Throughout the years, there have been many adjustment in how to treat animals,
which include animal rights.People shouldn t abuse the power of an animal in its habitat, especially if

However, the park instead chooses to stick with the same inhumane business model that it has used for
50 years, despite all the violent and deadly incidents and evidence of harm. In an article by the
Huffington Post by Brianna Elliott, it gives a viewpoint on how some people treat animals like objects
and not human beings which means, as humans sometimes we forget how to deal with situations as so.
Also, to prove that a picture is enough to see how some animals deaths go unnoticed. ( 1). In addition,
fewer than 5% to 10% of zoos and aquaria are involved in substantial conservation programs. The
amount spent on these programs is a mere fraction of the income generated by the facilities. Simply
exhibiting wildlife is not considered conservation. At least 134 orcas (killer whales) have been taken
into captivity from the wild since 1961. One hundred and three (77%) are now dead (WDCS,
1999).While this information may be correct, no conclusions can be derived from this since no timing
details are given which would allow the calculation of animal days or years.
First off, some aquatic animals, such as Wild orcas and dolphins live in large, complex social groups
and swim vast distances every day in the open ocean. In captivity, these

Norm Violation Of Social Norms
I will be violating the societal norm of moving out of people s way while out in public. Since many
people expect others to be polite, many people might think it s rude to run into other people. This
norm is there to make sure that people do not run into each other all the time, and to influence people
to be polite to each other. I plan to not move out of anyone s way at some of the posher stores at the
Eastwood mall such as Macy s, JCPenny s, Forever 21, and Kohl s. I also plan to enact this same
experiment at a Giant Eagle in Warren since the conditions are not as nice there. There could be a
multitude of reactions from both stores. Negative reactions probably will include negative comments,
eye rolls, glares, rude comments, and scoffs. There might also be neutral reactions where people might
not even care that I didn t get out of their way. I also expect some positive reactions such as the person
moving politely out of my way, respectful inquiries for me to move out of the way, etc. I believe the
most common reaction I will receive throughout this experiment will be negative. I expect a lot of
glares, scoffs, and rude comments. The norm violation took at two different locations; a variety of
stores in the Eastwood mall and my local Giant Eagle. The stores I went into at the mall were on the
richer side, and the Giant Eagle I performed my experiment at was in a more run down part of town.
There were quite a few people in both locations. In the mall, I easily came across at least 100 people.
At Giant Eagle, I came across approximately 50 people. There were a variety of people observing at
both locations people of all ages, genders, social statuses, and financial backgrounds. However, there
were more people that seemed to be of a higher social and economic status than those at my local
Giant Eagle. I went to the Eastwood mall first, and walked around making sure I didn t politely move
out of anyone s way. Walking through the JCPenny, I nearly ran in to a multitude of people who did
not move out of my way until the very last second. A lot of the people in the previous scenario
followed up with glares, scoffs, and rude comments. However, quite a few of the people reacted very
neutrally. For example, they

Paul, however, became attached to one of these families the Flan and Ouisa Kittredge since he became Flan`s son. From this first encounter with the Kittredges, Paul immediately begins acting as if he were Flan`s son. • 13. Death Is A Bit Taboo The idea of death is a bit taboo, however it is the unspoken reality of life. Naturally, there comes a time when you will no longer be a part of the ever evolving world physically and it will be your time to die. The question that has arisen is whether or not an individual s unbearable pain should constitute them to request death. A person should not have to be hooked up to machines in order to be kept alive, if that is not what they want; they should be able to choose death. Perhaps when Patrick Henry stated, Give me liberty or give me death he was not referring to assisted suicide but the principles still remain the same. Our society was built on the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; lying in a bed while incapacitated is not living, freedom or happiness. The idea of assisted suicide is to permanently end the suffering of an individual after every other opinion has been exhausted and it allows the patient to take control of their lives. When an individual becomes terminally ill many options regarding their health is placed in the doctor s hands and the individual s family s hands, leaving the sick patient without control over their body and over their life. When the patient loses control regarding their healthcare and their health continues to decline without improvement, the thought of suicide rises because the individual wants to simply escape their pain and suffering. In addition to their role as the official motto of the United States Military Academy at West Point, the words Duty, Honor, (and) Country serve to embody the conditioning that each recruit, both officer and enlisted, undergoes in all military branches. Each soldier is taught that they have an absolute responsibility to their fellow soldiers and the country they serve and to fail to uphold that responsibility can never be justified. This fear of failure, writes Grossman (2009) is one of the primary means the military uses to overcome soldier s innate aversion to killing other human beings. It is also the fear that allows soldier s to overcome the fear of death and take heroic actions (Nash, 2007). When a soldier perceives he has failed to live up to these standards, shame may result. The Stages of Killing Grossman (2009) writes that killing involves a series of emotions, beginning with concern before the killing, and followed by exhilaration, remorse, rationalization, and acceptance following the killing. Before a soldier kills for the first time, he or she will often have concerns regarding whether he or she will satisfactorily perform his or her duties or will let down fellow fighters by freezing or in some other fashion failing to properly engage the enemy. (6) For this necklace they repaid a debt of thirty six thousand francs. (5) If Mathilde and her husband had admitted to Madame Forestier about the truth of losing the necklace then the consequences would have been different and they would have avoided the hardship. This relates with another morality of the story which is to tell the truth. Thereafter, by learning a lesson from her doings there was a great transformation in Mathilde s character from beginning to end of the story. After giving the diamond necklace to Forrestier she knew they have to live a horrible (5) life of the needy. (5) . Thus with sudden heroism (5) she decided to repay the debt taken for that necklace and dismissed their servant, changed their lodgings and rented a garret under the roof. • 25. Impact Of Technology On The Music Industry Over the years, music has become portable, starting with the transistor to a set of headphones. Technology has allowed us to create a diverse musical culture. Music will always have an effect on one s culture, and it has definitely mad a huge impact on the use of technology. Cultural diversity is about bringing people closer together though the World Wide Web. Many music publishers are the key to cultural diversity when it comes to publishing all genres. They will increasingly continue to play a part in promoting diversity by bringing music of all kinds and forms to the music market. The way we access and listen to music has changed a lot in the music industry. For some, it may seem easier to download your favorite song from your favorite artist, but there are rules to the file sharing and downloading of music. Before there was file sharing, people would gather in concert halls for impressive music from some of the best known composers of all time. Today, there has been an abundance of ways to access and listen to music, in writing this paper, my goal is to discuss copyright laws, file sharing, and the progression of how we access music. Before we reached the electronic musical era, there was good old fashion concert halls. People would gather together in the concert halls to see many different composers perform, all from which were in different eras; the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic era. Concrete Filled Tubular ( Cft ) Column The steel tube in a concrete filled tubular (CFT) column acts as both lateral and longitudinal reinforcement, and is thus subjected to hoop tension and biaxial stresses of longitudinal compression. At the same time, concrete is tri axially stressed. Concrete filled tubular (CFT) column has become popular as structural member in buildings due to their excellent performance for structural characteristics, which include high ductility, stiffness, and high strength. The advantages of the Concrete filled tubular (CFT) column over other composite members are that the filled in concrete prolongs local buckling of the steel tube wall, the steel tube provides formwork for the concrete, the tube prevents excessive concrete spalling and composite columns add more stiffness to a frame compared to old style steel frame construction. According to past study on the concentric compression behavior of Concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns, the ultimate axial strength of Concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns is largely affected by the thickness of the steel tube and the shape of its cross section Although confining effect in square columns show a small increase in axial strength due to triaxial effects, although it has large wall thicknesses. On the other hand, the axial load and deformation behavior of columns is remarkably affected by the cross sectional shape, diameter/width to thickness ratio (D/t) of the steel tube, and the strength of the filled concrete. 1.3 Significance of research ... • 27. Social Cognitive Theory And Social Involvement Theory Involvement Theory The involvement theory discusses the amount and level of energy, time, and participation spent engaged in a particular activity (Lee, Lee Yoo, 2004). Witmer and Singer (1998) defined involvement as a psychological state experienced as a consequence of focusing one s energy and attention on a coherent set of stimuli or meaningfully related activities and events (p. 226). The involvement theory has been used in various disciplines including student involvement, product involvement, and customer involvement. Rocha Flores et al. (2014) posited that the lack of security awareness or knowledge among users is an indicator of a low level of information security involvement. According to Safa et al. (2016) information security knowledge sharing, collaboration, and experience represents the level of effort, participation and time that users engage in security activities, hence they represent levels of involvement. Therefore this study will incorporate knowledge sharing, collaboration, and experience as a measure of involvement to determine their impact on users technology threat avoidance motivation and further avoidance behavior. Social Cognitive Theory The social cognitive theory (SCT), formerly known as the social learning theory (Bandura, 1986) is widely used in the understanding of learning processes. SCT originated from the areas of psychology and communication and has been used in understanding computer behavior (Shillair et al., 2015; Cho, Lee, Chung, 2010; Compeau Higgins, 1995; Workman, Bommer, Straub, 2008; Yi Im, 2004). SCT postulates that human behavior is a dynamic relationship where cognitive factors and environmental influences interact with behavior factors (Bandura, 1986, 1991, 1997). SCT assists in building confidence and self efficacy, as users learn through observation or vicarious experiences (Anderson Agarwal, 2010; Bandura, 1991). This learning experience is influence by the environmental factor, social norm. Prior computer security related studies examine social influence as a predictor of user behavior (Culnan Williams, 2009; Hu, Dinev, Hart, Cooke, 2012; Lowry Moody, 2015; Posey et al., 2013 ; Vance et al., 2013). • 28. Society In The Belly Of Paris, By Emile Zola In the modern Paris, society is divided into different classes of people, different jobs, and different features of modern life. The Belly of Paris, written by, Émile Zola is about a man named Florent who was wrongly put in prison from Louis Napoleon s coup d etat. He escapes from prison and returns from the countryside to find an unrecognizable Paris. The Belly of Paris describes the class differences in the 1870s there is the bourgeoisie, which is defined as the middle class, typically with reference to its perceived materialistic values or conventional attitudes; the capitalist class who own most of society s wealth and means of production contrasted with the lower working class. As a result of having money, she has power, influence, and is respected by others. Her power and influence gives her status and reputation in the Les Halles market community. Through the description of the market politics and society, Zola portrays Lisa as someone who everyone strives to be, except for some of the Thin people. The Thin believe the Fat are corrupted and are taking more than their share of the wealth and power. Lisa is one part of the political power dynamic, the other side is Florent a juxtaposition of the Fat and Thin. Florent was seen as the outcast of modern Paris because he was thin and also because he had been in prison. He had reconnected with his brother, Quenu, and met his family and they [Quenu, Lisa, and Pauline] looked at him with the surprise of fat people gripped by vague feeling of unease at the sight of someone who is thin. • 29. Women In Macbeth And Of Mice And Men How are women presented in Macbeth Of Mice Men? Shakespeare and Steinbeck present their female characters in a misogynistic light. To compare the respective pieces we must consider several factors, which acted as a driving force towards the portrayal of the female characters in their respective texts. Shakespeare presents Lady Macbeth as a character who steers away from the stereotypical characteristics of women derived by the societal norms of an Elizabethan society. These three characteristics include: being a faithful and practicing Christian, being submissive to one s husband, and a good caretaker. In Macbeth, the stereotypical roles are reversed, so Lady Macbeth performs the dominating role in the relationship. To take her nurturing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Curley s wife clearly states I don t like Curley he aint a nice fellow. Lady Macbeth however deeply expresses her love for Macbeth and uses this love and fondness for each other to attain their simultaneous goals. On the other hand it could be argued that Lady Macbeth is completely guided by her desire to gain self profit like Curley s wife. Macbeth initially remains thoughtful by saying I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition . Later on in the text Macbeth comes to rejecting the idea Lady Macbeth taunts his masculinity and plays on his weak state of mind to make him accept the idea of regicide. So she may not be as loyal as she poses to be. Although fidelity is a reasonably big factor it does not outweigh how evil Shakespeare has portrayed Lady Macbeth, as she wants to commit murder. Her ambition is telling us that Shakespeare thinks women are evil and breaking the rules results in death and likewise with Steinbeck. So to summarize, the ambitions themselves are too different to be directly compared, but it is the causes, effects and portrayal of ambition that allow one to examine the difference between the two pieces. In Of Mice and Men, ambition can never be achieved; it is just a dream, which one strives for. In Macbeth, ambition can be achieved but never enjoyed, as Shakespeare never allows his characters to stop and enjoy their achievement. Finally we can conclude that Shakespeare s writing is more against the opposite sex as he presents Lady Macbeth as immoral since she coaxed Macbeth to commit murder. Whereas Curley s Wife isn t as moral to a certain extent depending on the ambiguous line of morality and whether adultery was considered immoral to a 1930 s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

College students working to pay for college tuition or pay off college debt have less entitlement, more responsibility, and take greater pride in their education; however, college students who have their college fully funded may feel more entitled around the college campus, have less focus towards studies, and spend more time at parties, finally they will never understand how much their education was truly worth. While each student may receive the same education, the values and attitudes each student has can be even more valuable than the college education itself. Beaches are some of the most romanticized places on the planet, for good reason; however, the encroachment of humans onto beach and coastal habitats has resulted in several negative outcomes. At Santa Monica State Beach (and adjoining pier), one of the most popular and polluted beaches in California, the impacts of urban development, industry, and other man made problems have caused mass pollution in the surrounding environment. The effects this pollution has on the coastal wildlife, water quality, and human health are catastrophic to the ecology and natural habitat of the beach. The beach began to decline in the early twentieth century with the construction of the Santa Monica Pier in 1909 after sixteen weeks of construction that on its own resulted in many tons of concrete being poured into Santa Monica Bay (City of Santa Monica, 2015). Over the next few decades land developers, and beach goers alike contributed a toxic combination of chemicals, bacteria, and trash that has resulted in Santa Monica Bay having several dead zones (Heal the Bay, 2015), which devastate the marine life population. • 43. Finding The Concentration Of Hard Water Ions Finding the Concentration of Hard Water Ions in a Water Sample Using Complexometric Titration By: Alya Barq CHM 2046L 22 April 2016 Abstract: Hard water is defined as water with an excess content of ions such as Mg2+ and Ca2+. Hard water causes a variety of problems, among them being that hard water ions can block pipes and decrease water flow, can cause scaly deposits to form where there is water contact, and cause an increase in utility bills due to amassed scales in water heaters. In this experiment, a sample of tap water was tested in order to determine the concentration of Mg2+, and then this value was compared to a limit set by the World Health Organization. In order to carry out this task, a complexometric titration was performed in which EDTA was used as the titrant, and a solution containing the tap water sample, buffer, indicator, and a solution of MgCl2, was the analyte. It was found that the magnesium ion concentration in the tap water sample was close to 0 M, and this led to the belief that there was a flaw in experimental design. Nonetheless, the evaluation of hard water ion concentration in drinking water and tap water is very important and according to the WHO, it should always be below 500 mg/litre. • 45. Summary Of Professor Blossom Damania In this video Professor Blossom Damania talked about how KSHV sequence generates primers and how the virus Herpes exist on normal healthy people. I learned that the virus is waiting for something to go wrong so they can harm you. I also learned that KSHV was discovered because of the AIDS epidemic, but I didn t know that Kaposi Sarcoma was around longer than that. I learned that in 1872, Mortiz Kaposi described the cancer in Europe as blotches on the skin, which targeted older men because they are immunosuppressed. I learned that this is because, as you age your immune system goes down. I learned that in the 80 s there was no diagnosis of HIV so if someone show up with Kaposi Sarcoma, the doctors would use this as a sign that they have HIV. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Examples Of Wisdom In The Iliad Wisdom Younger men are changeable; he in his age among them, looking before and after, can see clearly, what shall be in the interests of all. (Homer 65) This is what Menelaos, Helen s husband and king of the Mycenaeans, addressed his army with in Book Three of the Iliad by Homer. I disagreed with Menelaos and what he told his army. First, whether one is young or old, everyone changes one s mind. For example, throughout the Iliad we can see that Zeus, king of the gods, changes his mind on whether or not the gods can help in the Trojan War between the Greeks and the Trojans. At the beginning of Book Eight, Zeus addresses the gods saying, If I catch sight of anyone slipping away with a mind to assist the (Greeks) or the Trojans, he comes back blasted without ceremony, or else he will be flung out of Olympos into the murk of Tartaros that lies deep down in underworld, but then he turns around and starts interfering with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zeus, despite having years of wisdom from his many years of life, changes his mind on whether the gods can interfere with the war. This example proves that even if one is old one can still change one s mind. Second, wisdom, by the world s standpoint, is not based off of age, but off of cognition among other qualities. Vivian Clayton, a neuropsychologist, did a study in the 1970 s on wisdom. After asking retired judges and law students and professors, who would have all been considered wise, she concluded that wisdom is based off of the cognition, compassion, and reflection of a person. Monika Ardelt, an associate of Vivian Clayton, then proceeded to test other people asking them questions based on cognition, compassion, and reflection. She found that her older subjects had less cognition than her younger subjects. These experiments and studies show that wisdom, from the world s view, is based off of cognition, among other qualities, not age. Finally, one does not have to be old to achieve ... • 48. The Animals Of Animal Animals The animals of this world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans anymore than black people were made for whites. Alice Walker There are many fears in the world, for one animals are afraid of us. They probably think that we humans would hurt them. And they re actually right, we use them for clothes, food, transportation and entertainment. For me, these are really good valid reasons to be afraid. Throughout the years, there have been many adjustment in how to treat animals, which include animal rights.People shouldn t abuse the power of an animal in its habitat, especially if it is not in its unoriginal habitat. Not only is it missing out on having a natural environment, but also it does not know how to communicate ... However, the park instead chooses to stick with the same inhumane business model that it has used for 50 years, despite all the violent and deadly incidents and evidence of harm. In an article by the Huffington Post by Brianna Elliott, it gives a viewpoint on how some people treat animals like objects and not human beings which means, as humans sometimes we forget how to deal with situations as so. Also, to prove that a picture is enough to see how some animals deaths go unnoticed. ( 1). In addition, fewer than 5% to 10% of zoos and aquaria are involved in substantial conservation programs. The amount spent on these programs is a mere fraction of the income generated by the facilities. Simply exhibiting wildlife is not considered conservation. At least 134 orcas (killer whales) have been taken into captivity from the wild since 1961. One hundred and three (77%) are now dead (WDCS, 1999).While this information may be correct, no conclusions can be derived from this since no timing details are given which would allow the calculation of animal days or years. First off, some aquatic animals, such as Wild orcas and dolphins live in large, complex social groups and swim vast distances every day in the open ocean. In captivity, these ... • 49. Norm Violation Of Social Norms I will be violating the societal norm of moving out of people s way while out in public. Since many people expect others to be polite, many people might think it s rude to run into other people. This norm is there to make sure that people do not run into each other all the time, and to influence people to be polite to each other. I plan to not move out of anyone s way at some of the posher stores at the Eastwood mall such as Macy s, JCPenny s, Forever 21, and Kohl s. I also plan to enact this same experiment at a Giant Eagle in Warren since the conditions are not as nice there. There could be a multitude of reactions from both stores. Negative reactions probably will include negative comments, eye rolls, glares, rude comments, and scoffs. There might also be neutral reactions where people might not even care that I didn t get out of their way. I also expect some positive reactions such as the person moving politely out of my way, respectful inquiries for me to move out of the way, etc. I believe the most common reaction I will receive throughout this experiment will be negative. I expect a lot of glares, scoffs, and rude comments. The norm violation took at two different locations; a variety of stores in the Eastwood mall and my local Giant Eagle. The stores I went into at the mall were on the richer side, and the Giant Eagle I performed my experiment at was in a more run down part of town. There were quite a few people in both locations. In the mall, I easily came across at least 100 people. At Giant Eagle, I came across approximately 50 people. There were a variety of people observing at both locations people of all ages, genders, social statuses, and financial backgrounds. However, there were more people that seemed to be of a higher social and economic status than those at my local Giant Eagle. I went to the Eastwood mall first, and walked around making sure I didn t politely move out of anyone s way. Walking through the JCPenny, I nearly ran in to a multitude of people who did not move out of my way until the very last second. A lot of the people in the previous scenario followed up with glares, scoffs, and rude comments. However, quite a few of the people reacted very neutrally. For example, they ...
