ENHANCING THE MONITORING SYSTEM OF SFDA IN SAUDI MARKETSijseajournal
In the present market, most of the public and private sector entities are using various mobile applications
for communication with their customers. Whether it is a notification, information or an alert, the means of
communication using mobile applications made life easy so as to reduce the relevant risks. Recently the
health related issues due to imported food in Saudi Arabia (SA) raised many concerns to consider serious
reforms. The Saudi Food and Drugs Authority (SFDA) is responsible to control, examine and save the
citizens of SA from any kind of serious health related issues or deaths. The present research aims to
facilitate a runtime monitoring system to check the quality of food imported from various countries and to
assure the safety of citizens. This runtime monitoring system is based on the proposed integration model of
SFDA policy to attain both safety and quality property with respect to manageability property. Such
practice will surely help the consumers, suppliers and authorities to ensure a quality health of citizens in
SA. Above and all the SFDA policy during runtime can control the flow of imported food supplies, validate
the food products and can establish a fair communication between consumers and suppliers.

Presentation of the global Panel's policy brief ‘Assuring Safe Food Systems: Policy Options for a Healthier Food Supply’. The brief reviews food safety issues that are critical to poor and vulnerable populations in low- and middle-income countries, with a particular focus on their impact on healthy diets.
Our industries should embrace this worthy endeavour. For the first time ever, the feed industry has developed an international Feed Manual that focuses on the issues of feed and food safety. Joining together to make this happen are the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
This initiative has been assisted through the WTO-supported Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF). The undertaking is certainly no small task, but with the recent adoption of the Codex Alimentarius Code of Practice on Good Animal Feeding, a manual that explains in detail these new requirements is a worthy endeavor and one which the world’s feed and food industries should fully embrace and provide their complete support.
The Manual consists of five sections, explaining in detail how those involved in the production of animal feeds can implement the principles documented in the Codex Alimentarius’ Code of Practice on Good Animal Feeding.
While it is not meant to be an all-inclusive document, this Feed Manual focuses on the issues of feed and food safety and carries with it a set of Appendices which contains the Code itself and additional supporting information related to the manufacture of safe feed. Also covered in body of the Manual is safe feeding practices for on-farm feeding (Section 4).
The Economist Intelligence Unit gives their view about the future of food supply in the world. Food must be enough in quantity and quality to feed the future population.

GCARD2: Briefing paper Household Nutrition Security (WFP)GCARD Conferences
While the research agenda is growing, there remains limited concrete evidence on how agriculture–nutrition linkages work. A mapping exercise has been completed by DFID/LCIRAH outlining the research gaps. However more nutrition-relevant data from agricultural interventions needs to be generated, collected and shared, and nutritional indicators need to be included in evaluations. LCIRAH identify the need for greater understanding of the pathways from agricultural inputs and practices through value chains to effects on food environment, consumption and nutrition.

What is food security according to FAO?
Food safety: Why is it central to FAO’s main goal?
The FAO’s food safety strategy & areas of Focus
Issues for considering by COAG
Conclusion
3
4. Introduction
The 19th session of the committee on agriculture on
April 2005 endorsed the FAO food chain Approach for
safe & nutritious food.
Changing in environmental or technological context
had impact on main diverse of food safety concerns.
This create new challenge for FAO.
FAO identified the food safety areas and support the
achievement of organizations strategic objective.
The new food safety strategy has been developed to
guide a process of re-orientation & re-organization
that will facilitate the optimal contribution of the food
safety program.
4
5. What is food security according to
FAO?
“Food security exists when all people, at all times,
have physical, social and economic access to sufficient,
safe and nutritious food which meets their dietary
needs and food preferences for an active and healthy
life.”
5
6. Food safety: Why is it central to
FAO’s Main Goals?
Food & Nutrition Security
Reducing Rural Poverty
Efficient & inclusive Food system
Sustainable food production
Prevention of food chain emergencies & improving resilience
6
7. Food & Nutrition Security
Food safety plays an important role in improving food
& nutrition security.
Exposure to chemical hazards continues to be a
widespread concern, especially to the smallholder
farmers & consumers in the developing countries.
7
8. Reducing Rural Poverty
The food and agriculture sector is an important engine
for growth in many developing countries; agriculture
contributes as much as 30 percent to gross domestic
product & an ever bigger share of employment,
particularly in rural areas.
The committee on fisheries (COF) has highlighted the
importance of FAO technical assistance to developing
countries to promote adherence to food safety
requirements specially by small-scale fisheries.
8
9. Sustainable food production
Promoting sustainable intensification is an essential
aspect of SO2 and the safety of the resulting foods is
an essential consideration.
Furthermore, potential benefits of new technologies
applied to the food chain will only be realized if there
is public confidence that the technologies are safe.
9
10. Efficient & inclusive Food system
Food safety makes a major contribution to improving
efficient & inclusiveness of food system which is the
objective of SO4.
Agreed international standards underlie an efficient
system of international trade.
A recent survey by the International Trade Centre has
shown that food businesses in developing countries
consider food safety requirements as a major
challenge.
10
11. Prevention of food chain
emergencies & improving
resilience
Food safety is a key consideration in most food chain
emergencies
The food safety program is expected to contribute to
better global food chain intelligence that could
facilitate early warning & prevention of emergencies.
11
12. The FAO’s Food safety strategy &
areas of Focus
Strengthening national food control regulatory
capacities & global trade facilitation
supporting steady improvement of national food
control system
Supporting the global trade facilitation agenda
Supporting science based food safety governance
& decisions
Scientific advice to codex
Scientific advice to countries & partners
Effective participation in Codex
12
13. Cont…
Enhancing food safety management along food
chains
Prevention is the ultimate goal of food control & is
only possible if food producers and food businesses are
correctly implementing effective programs of food
safety management.
Providing food safety platforms & databases
Databases supporting food safety management
Platforms for communication
13
14. Cont…
Developing food safety intelligence & foresight
It play a major role in the collection, analysis and
communication of food chain intelligence
A preliminary review showed that a number of FAO
units are involved in various formal & informal
foresight activities that could identify issues of food
control regulatory significance.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one emerging issue
of global concern.
14
15. Issues for considering By COAG
The committee on agriculture may wish to:
1. Endorse the key areas of work identified as the core of the
FAO food safety strategy
2. Support a greater role for FAO in Trade Facilitation
Programs as an important means for supporting the
delivery of FAO’s food safety strategy
3. Advice on how to meet the challenge of growing
demands on FAO’s food safety scientific advice programs
4. Advice on FAO’s role in contributing to global food chain
intelligence and provide guidance on the role of FAO in
assisting countries to contain the growing threat of AMR.
15
16. Conclusion
Improvements in global food safety will only be
achieved if countries can implement good practices
and enforce national regulations that are aligned with
international requirements.
FAO’s new strategic framework strengthens its singular
leadership role in addressing the agriculture
dimensions of the global trade.
As a knowledge organization and as a neutral inter-
governmental forum, FAO has a critical role in the
provision of reliable, trusted & globally-relevant
scientific advice to underpin food safety management.
