Include screen shots for visual projects. Include links to audio
projects.
This is a background story for one of “Black Rifle Coffee
Company’s” co founders, Mat Best. It tells you about his life in the
army and experiences as narrated by him (Mat Best).
I am learning how to make a quick documentary style that is
interesting throughout.
I am looking at this as this is similar to the style of documentary I
am wanting to create, with the fast pace and full of information.
It will affect my project as I will use a similar short documentary
style.

This is a background story for the CEO of Black Rifle Coffee
Company, Evan Hafer, about his experiences in the army green
berets and then contracting, and how it led to the creation of
BRCC.
I am learning how to make a quick documentary style that is
interesting throughout.

This documentary is on the Morley family who have raced Bentley's
for generations, and the iconic colour that covers their historic race
cars.
I am looking at this because I like the factual format of the piece and
how it is entertaining and factual at the same time with the sort of
interview style.
I am learning from this how to keep this style of documentary
entertaining and the length was short yet not too quick, which is useful
for the style of documentary I am wanting to make.
It will affect my work as I will try and have a similar style of
documentary that is short but doesn’t feel hurried. And have a similar
subject line that follows one subject throughout the documentary.

I am looking at this as its informative and follows
a similar theme to what I am wanting to create,
and follows a similar type of content that I’m
wanting to make.
I am learning how to make an enticing
documentary style film from this, I am also
learning which camera angles would work the
best for certain shots, weather to have a voice
over or talking direct to camera/audience.
it will affect my project as I will try and use a
similar theme throughout my project about
military aspects and following a set event.

Link it back to your project. Why are you looking at this?
What are you learning from it? How will it affect your project?
I am looking at this because it has a similar theme to
what I am wanting to create as it is military based and
follows a certain story of what the experience is like.
I am learning from this video how to structure my mini
documentary to make it interesting following the topic
of the military.
This will affect my project as I will try follow a similar
suit of the mini documentary, of the military theme. It
will also affect my project as I will try and use a similar
style of documentary.
8. ARMY RESEARCH.
I am wanting to make my Documentary army themed and about the joining process during the current global
pandemic and how the army has adapted and changed to keep intake flowing and not have a backlog of
applicants.
The Army recruiting process has changed drastically due to the corona pandemic,
the interviews which used to be face to face are now done over calls, the face
to face assessment center briefing are social distanced. The assessment center is
now socially distanced and the exercises have changed as it used to be a 2km run
Which has been changed to a bleep test.
I am wanting to interview other candidates and try and get permission to ask/
interview some of the recruiters in the recruitment office. I will also try record some
of my assessment center if I can.
9. Research summary:
In summary there are many features of the research documentaries I am wanting to use in my own project. Such as the
quick paced facts and keep it interesting for the quick format. I will be following a similar theme of the samples following
the military theme of the samples.
Most of the research documentaries use a mixture of interview style footage and talking over footage. I will attempt to
include this in my own documentary, as I find it adds character and makes the documentary interesting with the variety
of shots that can be used. There are other aspects I can use in my work that are in the existing products is the usage of
one singular theme throughout the documentary, instead of differing between themes. I will keep one solid theme
throughout my documentary. I am also going to try and use interviews in my documentary.

Editor's Notes
Context affects what is produced, how it is produced and who can produce it.
Technology is part of the context. Early fanzines were hand made because there was no InDesign or Photoshop. Web-series simply didn’t existing because the web didn’t exist.
People who don’t have access to jobs in mainstream media, to become journalists or editors, might produce work independently of that system.
People who don’t see themselves or their interests being represented in main stream media, might produce something that represents them or their social group.
The political situation will influence what someone decides to make. The cultural situation will influence what people make.
Every media text is a product of its environment, just like people.
Style: The way in which something is said, done, expressed, or performed. The combination of distinctive features of literary or artistic expression, execution, or performance
characterizing a particular person, group, school, or era.
For example, a podcast could be two people talking, it could be interviews and a voice over, it could just be a recording of a teaching session… how it is done, is the style.
Techniques:
How are these things being made? What methods are being used? Find out and also use your own experience. For example, is a fanzine being hand written or word processed? How do people making a web series set up their shooting spaces? The more you can find out about technique, the more you can get ideas for your own work.
Content:
The material, including text and images, that constitutes a publication or document.
What is actually in this product? Break it down. Is it interviews, monologues, reviews, instructions… Identify the different types of content in the items you research, to help your own ideas.
