Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Main area of activity I am going to be working in video making a documentary
Target Audience
My target audience for the documentary is going to be ages 17-25 as I feel like this is Tim Burton’s
target audience for the majority of his movies. I will be targeting this towards Tim Burton fans so I
will also be trying to use some of the conventions of Burton movies like sticking to a similar colour
scheme that is in most of his movies so that the documentary can also look like it could be a part
of his movie universe.
Rationale:
Last year for my job roles project I did my fact file on Tim Burton, so I was able to learn a lot of
information about him and I have always been a huge fan of his work so I will already know a lot of
information about him that I can use in the documentary. I did a lot of film work last year as I made
a music video for my fmp so I will know what types of shots will work best for this project and I
have lots of practice editing film as well so the postproduction should be easy.
Project Concept:
My documentary will be about how Tim Burton has a unique film style; how no matter what movie
he is involved in you can tell it is a Tim Burton movie and how he has almost created his own
cinematic universe with his movies because the characters and locations of all his movies look like
they could co-exist together. For research I will look into all his movies focusing on his most
popular movies and the similarities that link them this will help me with my project because it will
help me understand the conventions of a Tim Burton film. I will also conduct audience research
which will help me to learn which of his movies is most popular and why people are so drawn to his
movies. The intro
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will take screenshots of my work as I go and write reflections of my work at the end of each day. I
will put all of this into a PowerPoint so I can clearly see what I have done, need to do, what went
well and what I can improve on.
