Project proposal title and date:
The Silenced
Main area of activity:
The main area for my product will be film with a bit of print work as I will make a few posters for my
film along with the trailer.
Rationale:
Throughout the year I did many different projects but I feel as though my best work was done on
the video project when we had to make the music video and I think that making a film trailer would
be a step up from making a music video and would challenge me and help me improve my skill set
further. I feel as though the music video project help me a lot and I have got a good skill set from
that project. I feel as though my editing skills have improved a lot and I feel I will be able to
comfortably edit my trailer and I feel confident in the filming of everything. I am also wanting to go
onto university to study film and make films so I feel this is why this is the best route for me.
Project Concept:
For my project, I am wanting to make a trailer for a film about a serial killer who has finally decided
to reveal how he killed his victims and where they have been buried after being imprisoned for
around 15 years. In the trailer, you will see the murderer at different points in his life and different
victims as he starts to tell a journalist how he did it. I will also make a poster or two to go along with
the trailer I am making. To do this project I will watch some documentaries on serial killers and
some interviews with them so I can see how a serial kill acts and what sort of things they will say
and the language they use when they talk. I will also have to analyse some film trailers in the
genre which I am wanting to put my trailer to be in so I know what appeals to the audience I am
targeting my trailer towards. Also, I will have to look at posters for the film trailers I look at so I can
make sure my poster appeals to the same audience as my trailer. One inspiration for my project
will be Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island. I really like the look of this film and the overall feel of the
film so I am going to aim to make a trailer similar to the style of this film. Parts of my film are also
set in the past so I will have to make the footage seem older or colour grading it differently to show
it is in the past.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
To evaluate my work, I will do a daily reflection when doing my production talking about to
processes and how I think it is all going and how I am shooting my trailer and how I am editing it all
when I get to the editing stage. One I have got my final product I will do a final self-reflection of my
work and then I will get some pear feedback to see if people find it appealing and to find out what
people that are in my target audience like about my trailer and what they think could be improved.
