This document contains a student's proposal for a car culture fanzine project. The student proposes creating a print fanzine focused on car subcultures like festivals and modifications for an audience aged 17-24. They will research topics like brands, graphics and mechanics. A survey will gather audience interests to inform content. The proposal outlines a schedule including research, planning, production and evaluation phases to develop the fanzine over 10 weeks.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Factual project - car culture proposal(2)

Behindthe Wheel
I have chosenthistitle tobe my workingtitle formyfanzine.Thisisbecause Idon'twantit to be
somethingboringandplainlike carculture.So,Iusedbehindthe wheelbecause itgivesthe audience
a hintthat it’sabout cars, butit doesn’tspecify whichpartof the car because itcouldbe about the
interiordesign, the experience etc. So,the title makesthe audience wanttofindoutwhichpartit of
the car itstalkingabout.
Also when searching for fanzines on the Internet with google search, if someone searches for car
fanzines, google will bring up selection of things that have these key words in and gives you a list of
fanzines and websites, images etc related to what has been put in the search engine. Therefore, by
having the name behind the wheel it will help to narrow down and bring the fanzine up on the internet.
Area of Activity:
Print- Fanzine
Audience:
My target audience would be 17-24 as at the age of 17 you are legally allowed to drive a car in the UK.
But the challenge foryoungdriversisthat everythingfromcar insurance tomodificationscanbe quite
expensive,sowhencreatingthisfanzineatleastit won'tcost themanythingtobe able toview a
fanzine todowiththe car culture that theymayenjoy. Plus, itwill include thingslikecargraphics,
modifications,carfestivalsetc. Whichiswhatmany youngdriversare into.
My projectwill be suitablefor all ages from 17+ for all social status groups from E (lower grade workers)
to A (high managerial workers) and all genders. Also, many people from all social status will at least have
a car as it will be seen as a vital part of transport to help travel to work, college and other places.
I have also increased the age range of my target audience because most car enthusiasts tend to be
around the age of 30 or 40 and have more experience with cars and build a genuine interest around cars.
They also tend to have a better understanding of cars and go to car shows etc.
Furthermore, when considering my project I will need to be in the mindset of my target audience so that
I can create something that will be interest them, and include the right amount of relevant information to
help them get interested as most information on fanzines, magazines, brochures etc. can be quite boring
and only the images attract people's attention. When I create my fanzine, I will make sure to include
relevant images and key information and try to make it appealing and engaging as much as possible.
2. I will need to also consider about my resources because if I use different software or do something slightly
different due to the covid 19, it could affect the quality of my fanzine which could also affect the results
of my fanzine and affect how it appeals and engages the audience. So, if I am unable to use photoshop,
illustrator or InDesign I will try to use a software similar to all three like gimp or coral draw, so that it
doesn’t affect how I plan to create my fanzine too much. I will try to ensure that it is close to the quality
of photoshop in case I do use another software.
Rationale:
ThroughoutlastyearI have done a range of projectsfromprintto audio, withthatI have learntand
gaineda range of skills. However, Iwill mainlybe usingthe skillsinmypastprintprojectsfor this
currentprojectas I will be creatinga fanzine whichisprintbased. Iwill alsouse the skillsIusedto
make a magazine coverfroma pastproject.I will alsouse the skills I've gainedfromsoftware's like
photoshop,gimp,InDesignetc.
The last print-basedprojectIdidwasa small posterand frontcover fora brochure ,thiswill have an
impacton thiscurrentprojectas I will be doingsomethingalittle similarandIwill haave toput the
skillsIusedformy printprojectanduse themall tomy bestfor thisprojectto make itstand outfrom
the previousprojectsbutalsotohelpmake itappealingandengagingforthe audience.
ProjectConcept:
For my factual project I plan on creating a car culture fanzine which has subcultures such as car festivals, races,
modifications etc. that all make the car culture. The reason i have chosentodo a fanzine isbecause Ilike
doingprint-basedprojectsandbecause isbasedaroundsomethingIfindpassionate about.
The researchI needto lookat iscar festival, carbrands, car modifications,carmechanics/technicians
and car graphics. This researchwill helpme withmyprojectbecause it'sgoingtobe a fanzine based
aroundthe car culture whichincludes subcultures like carfestivalsetcwhichmake the car culture. It
will alsogive me abetterunderstandingabouteachsectionIam researching
I am also thinking of creating a survey to complete with people I know from different ages to get ideas
around whether they have a car, types of designs they would be interested in, car festivals etc. This will
then help me to build on the information and images to put on my fanzine as I want to ensure I can
capture my audience’s attention. It will also give me a better understanding of who my audience is, and
I can try and be in their mindset when creating this project.
However, I will have to take into consideration that due to the covid 19 I could be restricted to some
things as I will be working from home as well as college. So I will have to be prepared in case anything
changes.
Evaluation:
Whenit comesto evaluatingmy work, I planto talkaboutthe goodand the bad, time management
and anyimprovements Iwouldmake.Iwill gainfeedbackfrommypeersandtutoron mywork to
helpme improve alongthe waybefore everythinghastobe submitted.
3. Aftercompletingmyproject,Ithinkthe thingsthatwentwell withitall wasthatthe planningand
researchwasdone on time andthe overall layoutof myfanzine looksdecenttosay it'smy firsttime
makinga fanzine.Ifeel likethisprojecthasbeenfuntodoas it issomethingnew.
Furthermore, the thingsIstruggledwithforthisprojectwastryingtoget myideal targetaudience asI
couldn’tpostmysurveylinkinsome car forums. But I diduse the target audience thatwasgivenat
the start of the projectand thisina way helpedme togeta visual ideaof whatthat age group

But overall, Iam happywiththe resultandhow thingsworkedoutand how I managedto complete
everythingontime despite havingcovid-19makingthingsalittle difficult. Also, Ithinktosaythiswas
