Narrative Essay On A Boy Scout Camp
I was driving in a car with my friend, Trevor. We were heading to a boy scout camp for a camping
trip with an unknown agenda to us. We both had packed what we usually need for a camping trip
which was a daypack, a tent and tarp, a couple pairs of clothes, and our uniform. Neither of us were
as certain to why we were heading up to this camp and what we would get out of this weekend.
About two months earlier, our boy scout troop had an election for the Order of the Arrow, also
known as the Boy Scout National Honor Society. Our peers in the troop were told to pick a few
scouts that exemplified the Scout Oath and Law in their everyday life. At the end of the night, five
scouts were chosen. Trevor and I, being two of them. Both of us knew that we were going to attend
this trip on the same date because we both usually do everything together.
When arriving at the campsite, we were told to bring all of our equipment and head up to the dining
hall for check–in. We waited in lines for several minutes before being given the "okay" for
attending their weekend event. Afterwards, we were told to go up to field to set up our tents, but
before we left to do that we said goodbye to Trevor's dad. When we were setting up our tents, we
felt scared and lonely because the only people we knew were each other. But, we knew that would

I have proactively engaged in research activity throughout my undergraduate program. I had my first

in poverty. Poverty is qualitatively defined as being extremely poor. It is quantitatively defined as

Empiricism by nature is the belief that there is no knowledge without experience. How can one
know what something tastes like if they have never tasted it? For example, would someone know

Another of the classic empiricists is George Berkeley (1685–1753), who believes that knowledge is
possible. He believed that "it was only through experience and not reason that we have knowledge

For this assignment, I chose to watch a Ted Talk that focused on the importance of understanding
differences. It is entitled Love No Matter What and is the culmination of years of research done
by Andrew Solomon. I chose this Ted Talk because I thought it would be interesting to hear about
different lived experiences that people have endured. One of the huge ideas I have learned
throughout this leadership course and all our topics and conversation is that we all have different
lived experiences. It is our lived experiences that make us special and individual. Love No Matter
What focused on this essential idea and how important differences are. The topic of this Ted Talk
completely reflects what has been said in our leadership class as well as what I think a student
leader at Western Oregon University should be. Solomon's talk is centered around the
relationship of parents and children and accepting and loving children, but the ideas expressed in
his talk can be applied to any human relationship. I believe Western is a university that deeply
prides itself in its student diversity and acceptedness of said diversity. The Western that I know,
