Classroom Management
• Classroom management refers to the wide variety of skills and
techniques that teachers use to keep students organized,
orderly, focused, attentive, on task, and academically
productive during a class.
• Actions the teacher takes to create a safe and positive learning
environment.
Cont.….
• Creating a safe and inclusive environment for students learning.
It facilitates building a strong positive relationship with and
among the learners.
• Good classroom management is the understanding of students
and their social emotional learning needs.
Importance
• It creates both the best situations in which the teacher can
teach and student can learn.
• It helps create a conducive learning environment.
• It creates structure and achievable goals for students.
• It informs students about what is expected of them.
• Better classroom management helps teachers to train
responsible people
Cont.….
• Parents develop trust for you if you are effective in managing
your class. This is because they are aware your classroom
environment is safe for their wards to learn effectively. With this,
they tend to develop a strong relationship with you and offer you
all the necessary support to help in managing the behavior of
their students.
• It creates an effective school administration
Factors affecting classroom
management
• Effectual Teaching
• Unfavorable learning conditions
• Time issues
• Teacher’s poor management skills
• Consistency
• Maintaining a healthy Learning Environment
Effectual Teaching
• A disorganized classroom without routines and expectations
makes it difficult for the teacher to do her – his job. Students
don't know what to do and how to behave.
• Classroom management strategies help create an organized
classroom environment that's conducive to teaching. students
know the expectations in different types of learning situations.
Unfavorable learning conditions
• The classroom may not be conducive to learning. if it is
overcrowded with more than the regular number of students to
a class. with poor lighting facilities and inadequate ventilation.
with furniture and storage cabinets disorderly positioned, making
the collection and retrieval of tools less efficient. with
inappropriate seating arrangement such that distractions can
easily occur near sources of noise which obstruct understanding
of the lesson.
Time issues
• Taking time before school starts to create routines and
procedures saves the teacher time in the long run. When the
students know what to do, it becomes a natural part of the
routine. After a few weeks, the teacher doesn't need to tell them
what to do. The students know they get their planners out, write
in homework assignments and gather all of their materials at the
end of the day.
Teacher’s poor management skills
• The teachers’ lack of adequate knowledge and skills in handling
occurrences of misbehavior likewise contribute to a trouble-
prone setting
Consistency
• A teacher with strong classroom management skills can create
consistency for his/her students. The kids know what to expect
every day when it comes to the routine activities.
Maintaining a healthy Learning
Environment
• Classroom management also includes maintaining the learning
environment through decision-making about students and the
classroom. Maintaining a learning environment entails teachers
to continuously monitor their students. Continuous monitoring
includes watching student behavior closely, correcting
inappropriate behavior before it’s getting worse, dealing
consistently with misbehavior, and attending to student learning
Dealing with affecting factors
• Use verbal reinforces that encourage good behavior and
discourage bad tendencies.
• Understand your students.
• Set effective limits or example, instead of saying, “No side talk,”
say “Please raise your hand to add to the conversation.”
• Keep to the schedule you set The more organized you are, the
more opportunity there is to focus on teaching and learning.
Components of classroom
management
• Classroom design — be intentional about how you set up your
desk, your students' desks, classroom design can help create a
safe and welcoming learning environment.
• Rules/discipline — to create a safe and caring school
community, develop classroom rules your students understand
and — hopefully — respect. While it may not be fun, be sure to
communicate that breaking classroom rules will have concrete
yet fair consequences.
Cont.…
• Instructional technique — while you may not have the flexibility
you'd like when it comes to content and curriculum, you should
have the freedom to choose how you teach. For example, 8th
grade students may prefer a lecture-style lesson with small group
discussions while 3rd grade students may prefer learning math
with a digital game-based learning platform. Observe how your
students learn best and use the classroom management
strategies and techniques to teach your lessons.
In Conclusion
• These classroom management strategies will help both teacher
and students get more out of the classroom environment. With a
few effective tools, your class will be more engaged,
enthusiastic, and interested in the material. Whether these
classroom management techniques are used to manage an
elementary school classroom, a room of rowdy teens, or a
university lecture hall, teachers and students will benefit from a
more focused and creative classroom environment.
Thank you
