 A community resource is anything that has the
potential to improve the quality of life in a
community
 In every community there are many resources
available to enrich classes.
 Use of community resources can take two forms:
resource persons can be brought into the
classroom or the class can take a field trip into the
community.
 Field experiences and the use of community
resource persons can provide students with a
diversity of information, materials, and experience
not available in any textbook.

 It helps to develop scientific attitude and skills .

 It helps to develop environmental knowledge and
problem solving skill .

 Community resources for better science teaching
and learning are human resources, natural
resources, and man made resources.
 Human resources
 Classroom visits from informed professionals can
be a valuable teaching tool.
 Resource experts serve as role models and can
provide additional content support to the
classroom.
 Resource experts do not give an unrealistically
glowing or gloomy picture of their area of expertise.

7. Natural resources
 Nature study is the main aspects of science teaching.
 Through observation students learn more from the nature.
 Different types of skill ,experimentation skill , observation skill,
manipulative skill, drawing skill etc are developed.
 Students get direct experience from the nature.
 It inspire to adopt eco friendly life style.
 Initiate concern for protecting and developing natural
resources.
 Understand the interrelationship between plants and animals.

8. Manmade resources
 It is a place where one learns by seeing
articles of interest, a centre of recreation
where one learns pleasantly and enjoys
 It consist of real objects by which one can
verify and amplify knowledge.

 Imagination and creativity in using community
resources can help students to connect school
science with the community
 Community-based learning often employs inquiry
methods-like asking questions, making predictions,
and using summaries-to provide learning
frameworks.
 Students act as co-creators, rather than just
consumers of knowledge and teachers act as
guides or coaches
 community-based learning makes young people
active agents of their own learning and gives them
a voice in determining what and how they learn.
