Facial trauma refers to any physical injury to the face and can involve soft tissue damage like lacerations or burns as well as fractures of facial bones. Treatment depends on the type of injury but may include bandaging wounds, setting broken bones, antibiotics, and sometimes surgery. Facial injuries can cause disfigurement, disability, or loss of function like blindness or jaw issues. While usually not life-threatening on their own, facial trauma can interfere with breathing and cause dangerous complications.
