Broca s Case Study
Broca s area is one of the association areas of the cortex that is in the left frontal lobe. It is
responsible for making a speech and talking easily and smoothly, though Broca s area is more
responsible for the collaboration between frontal, temporal and motor areas that are responsible
for speech production than forming the speech itself and the inability to form smooth and clear
speech is a consequence of a damage to this area. This part of the brain allows the people at the
pizza party to talk one another, to discuss about the pizza. One person shared his pizza was too
crispy. Also, they decided on which card game they will play. Borka s area allowed them to do all
that. Another part of the brain is hypothalamus. It is a quite strong and tiny portion of the brain

Ghost Sightings In The 18th Century
There are many things in our world that we cannot explain. We ve used religion, science, stories,
and theories, anything we could come up with to explain life s mysteries. One subject of interest
that we are all still stumped on are things classified as paranormal. Paranormal activity is a very
debatable topic, with some saying ghosts and poltergeists are as real as you and me, while others
try to explain the weird happenings as something natural. Even if one believes in the paranormal or
not, the subject is, to say the least, very interesting. All over the world, there are claims of
supernaturalthings going on; there are ghostsightings every day, especially around historical
places, more specifically where mass killings or bloody battles have taken place. One of these
places that is famous for its ghostly visitors is the Tower of London, located in The London
Borough of Tower Hamlets, England. Not only is the Tower of London a very interesting place
because of its ghostly guests, but it also serves as an important place in history.

The Golden Age Of Piracy Essay
The Golden Age of Piracy existed within the Atlantic World in the seventeenth and eighteenth
centuries. It was during this time that the enterprise of piracy expanded and then abruptly ended.
During this time, privateering was also an active enterprise ebbing and flowing with international
conflicts. The line between the two was often blurred and created a political conundrum that
people on both sides found it difficult to navigate. The life of a pirate was appealing to many on
land and sea. The common conception of piracyportrays the enterprise as a disorganized anarchy.
This is not true, piracy was a complex entity within the Atlantic world. The enterprise of piracy and
privateering was complex as it navigated the seas, the Atlantic... Show more content on

These interactions show that piracy was more than criminal activity, it was a business. John
Appleby extensively covers the relationships between pirates and women. Some were married,
like Edward Teach (Blackbeard), who was married multiple times. A few became pirates to escape
marriage, like Stede Bonnet. Women had many roles in relation to piracy. They were receivers and
maintainers who conducted business with pirates: they bought plunder, provided lodging and safe
houses, and provided entertainment and food. (APPLEBY 5). The role of women grew along with
the growth of river piracy where they took part in brokering and distributing stolen plunder. These
discrete networks helped piracy succeed (APPLEBY 5). At pirate bases, such as Port Royal, women
were a source of entertainment and pleasure. Women were not immune from the violence and abuse
that accompanied pirates wherever they went. Evidence suggests female abuse by pirates peaked
during the Golden Age in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries when long distance plunder
emerged, weakening the links ashore. Piracy remained a largely male experience, with just a few
notable female pirates, such as Anne

Analysis Of Pablo Picasso s Guernica
It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and that art is an expression of a human s
creativity sometimes relating to a specific theme or event. Within pictures it is easy to recognize
the story going on most of the time because it is usually a direct unobscured scene, however art is
more difficult due to human creativity. Looking back at art history, various painters and sculptors
created images inspired within their life that reflected some type of teaching or value, and telling
stories without saying a single word. Pablo Picassois one example of these painters as one looks at
one of his most famous paintings which is Guernica. An average person would look at the painting
and just see random figures and odd shapes, but when taking more time to evaluate the art work
one sees the true meaning of the pain and suffering during the bombing of Guernica. The women
and children were depicted as defenseless and innocent and presented by Picasso as the perfection
to mankind. By portraying them as such, Pablo Picasso sent the message that the assault on the
women and children was an assault on the core of mankind. But how does the meaning of art and
pictures relate to our church that stand at Sacred Heart University? Well, not only does the church
contain mosaics and artwork inside, but the whole church itself is a big piece of art that sends a
message about our school and community. Walking by the church someone may not recognize the
meaning behind the church but like any

Anorexia Nervosa
Anorexia Nervosa has many symptoms that damage the mind and body of the subject. One
category of symptoms is the extensive physical symptoms an anorexia victim will experience and
exhibit. Some symptoms that will outwardly appear on the victim are dermatological problems
such as dry, cracking skin; fine, downy hair; even a yellowish discoloration of the skin that may
persist for years after the weight is regained (Nevid, Rathus, Greene, 2014, p. 336). Other physical
symptoms that are less noticeable include heart irregularities, hypotension, and associated dizziness
upon standing, sometimes causing blackouts, (Nevid, Rathus, Greene, 2014, p. 337) abdominal
pain, and obstruction or paralysis of the bowels or intestines, (Nevid, Rathus,... Show more content

The stress of fitting into a new school really took a toll on her health. By the summer of seventh
grade, she appeared emaciated with her hip bones and ribs clearly protruding through her skin. It
was definitely a drastic change since until then, she was moderately overweight. I had no idea
how to address the problem but I believe her parents supported her and she reached a healthy
weight after a year or so. She now eats normal portions of food and instead of limiting her intake,
exercises an average amount to maintain a healthy physique rather than an emaciated one.
Anorexia, although still considered rare, has shown how dangerous and deadly its effects are if it
is not taken seriously. Social pressures, just one of the factors that cause anorexia, that overwhelm
people, especially women, must be limited. Currently, people are taking a stand against them. One
common example is the fight for banning Photoshop on models in magazines since they convey
unrealistic expectations for women. By continuing this fight against social pressures, we are one
step closer to lessening the amount of people affected by anorexia. (Word Count:

Rise Of Christianity Research Paper
Rise of Christianity
Among the many religions, Christianity is one of the world s most widely spread, it has the most
number of believers and its teachings spread all over the world, the congregation distributed in
various countries, it is certainly the world s first religion. The core of the Christian faith is Jesus,
mainly after progress of the initial of the belief in Paul and John theology, Peter s Church believes.
This huge religion, its origin and development also experienced various ups and downs. At first,
Christianity was a sect of Judaism, the Jesus of Nazareth. He was raised in Galilee, stronghold of
the Zealots. A Jewish town, Galilee had come under Roman political rule. Roman culture remained

Believers in his divinity met in small assemblies or congregations, often in one another s homes,
to discuss the meaning of his message. These earliest Christians defined their faith to fit the life
of Jesus into an orthodox Jewish context. Only later did these congregations evolve into what can
be called a church with a formal organization and set of beliefs. Christianity might have remained
just another sect had it not reached Rome, the capital of the Western world. Events in Rome
proved to be a dramatic step in the spread of Christianity for various reasons. First, Jesus had told
his followers to spread his word throughout the world, thus making his teachings universal. The
pagan Romans also considered their secular empire universal, and early Christians there combined
these two concepts of universalism. Secular Rome provided another advantage to Christianity. If
all roads led to Rome, they also led outward to the provinces of central and Western Europe. The
very stability and extent of the Roman Empire enabled early Christians easily to spread their faith
southward to Africa and northward into Europe and across the channel to Britain.

Facebook Is Off By Yvetne Marche
Marche starts his essay off by telling the story of a woman named Yvette Vickers; she was a
lonely woman who became even more lonely using the internet as her only way to connect with
people. He explains that Americans are more solitary than ever before (Marche, 2) so it is easy to
use Facebook as a scapegoat for our loneliness but in reality it is just a new way that we present our
loneliness. In his essay Marche makes it very clear that it is not Facebook that is making society
lonely, but instead people are using Facebook as a way of changing the form of their already
apparent loneliness. This essay was one that was very clear and gave many reasons as to why
Facebook is not the source of our feelings of loneliness and also made many... Show more content

Marche uses the metaphor that [Facebook is] like a car (Marche, 7) because you can use it as a
way to isolate yourself or you can use it as a way to interact with others and use it as a social
tool. Marche also gives the reader an example of an effective and healthy way that social media
is used versus an unhealthy way by using an example of a football game. Marche states that if
you use social media as a way to organize a game of football among your friends, that s healthy.
[But] if you turn to social media instead of playing football, however, that s unhealthy, (Marche,
7) which is a very good example because it shows the reader that social media was really just
meant as a social platform, not one that is used an excuse to not be social. The metaphors and
examples that Marche uses really enhance the persuasion and effectiveness of his essay because it
makes the reader really think of Facebook with an unbiased mind rather than thinking of it as what
it s known to be and all the bad things that are associated with

Tone of Miss Brill Reading through the story of Miss Brill you see a glimpse into Miss Brill life,
in that short glimpse you learn a lot about Miss Brill as a character. You see how she views the

to the whole story, if I had to say what that tone is, I would describe it as loneliness. In this essay
I will explain more on the details on how I came to this conclusion. One of the first examples that
gave me this idea of loneliness is on Page 103. Other people sat on the benches and green chairs,

really does do is goes to her local garden and people watches. She has perfected this technique to
look like she isn t ease dropping on people and aren t staring at people without looking creepy.
She even said it herself that she was quite the expert. The fact that she even thinks that really
shows how much time she has spent listening on into people conversations. Another example of
loneliness in this story was on Page 104, Oh, how fascinating it was! How she enjoyed it! How
she loved sitting here, watching it all! It was like a play. It was exactly like a play.....They were

Quarterback Analysis
Let me preface this editorial by saying that this is by far the longest position preview of this
series. Quarterback is by far the deepest position group in fantasy football, and you only draft
one or two of them, so hitting on a consistent producer who can deliver high point totals is crucial
for your fantasy title hopes. I would feel comfortable with starting, or having on my team, most
of the quarterbacks that inhabit the first four tiers below. That said, if I pass on the top guys,
which is likely, I ll most likely draft two QB s that I think can be good and platoon them until
one emerges as the guy. This could be a strategy you could use in most formats, unless your
league s scoring favors quarterbacks or you re in a two quarterback league. If you re in a standard

Freeze And Thaw In Concrete
The Effects of Freeze and Thaw in Concrete
Most people think concrete is an impenetrable solid. But in actually, concrete is a porous material
with many capillaries and voids throughout the surface. Although concrete is strong in compressive
strength, it is weak in tensile stength and elasticity. Concrete can tolerate heavy loads, but it is
susceptible to damage which causes it to break apart over time.
One damaging effect is freezing water. When water melts, it absorbs into the pores and capillaries.
As the water freezes and expands, it weakens the strength of the concrete. This causes concrete
scaling, delamination, and cracking.
The freeze and thaw cycle isn t restricted to just northern climates. It also occurs in warmer climates
where the temperature drops below freezing at night, and rises above freezing during the day.
Sometimes deicing chemicals are applied to the surface to temporary lower the melting point of ice

This will help prevent water absorption as well as expansion.
Another popular solution is replacing the soil with more porous alternatives, such as sand and
gravel. To divert water away from the foundation, you can also dig a subterranean reservoir on the
property.
How the Freeze and Thaw Cycle Damages Foundations
Since the freeze and thaw cycle damages concrete surfaces, it can also cause shifts and cracks
beneath the home s foundation. Soil within a high water table are particularly problematic since
they have poor drainage around the property.
Although you can t prevent the freeze and thaw cycle, you can protect your foundation. At MFS
Basement and Foundation Repair, we implement water management systems, such as heavy duty
sump pumps, interior/exterior drainage systems, French drains, and a surface drainage. We also
provide foundation repair products to fix foundation cracks and settlement

The Characteristics Of The Jazz Style Of Ella Fitzgerald
Learning a great deal about musicality, the business side of music and how to take care of herself,
the next few years brought a great deal of success to Chick Webb and herself.
With the raise of the new jazz style, bebop, jazz music moved from the diatonic conventions of the
swing era to more chromatic harmonies, complex rhythms and more notes and chord options. This
style caught Ella s attention and during her time with the Chick Webb band, she got her start
improvising in the bop style.
Ella is said to have described the early days of the bop revolution as something of a nightmare. I
felt that I was being left behind, and I was, she says. A few years later Ella found herself as the
guest touring with Gillespie s band. She was thrilled to listen to this new music day in and day out
on the road and quickly found she had enough musicianship and ears or ability to hear the
intricacies of this hipper jazz. Ella Fitzgerald became an expert with the new modern rhythms and
harmonies and her improvisation and musicianship as a singer improved drastically. Her
inspirations during this era were Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and she was able to imitate
their playing style and the timbre of the saxophone and trumpet. Not only was she able to copy
their playing style but also could sound just like Parker and Gillespie. This is made apparent in her
solo from the live recording of How High the Moon . This song is a great song for any beginning

Mary Barton By Elizabeth Gaskell Analysis
Ever hear the phrase, you have to read in between the lines? Authors commonly include broad
metaphors in their works in order for each reader to have their own interpretations of the topic.
In this passage, Mary Barton, written by Elizabeth Gaskell, George Wilson, a worker, goes to
the house of Mr. Carson, who is the owner of the mill where he is employed. He makes this trip
to request help for another worker who is dying of typhus. Gaskell was able to show a clear
depiction of social differences between a town that is heading toward poverty and a wealthy
family living in opulence, allowing her reader to understand the clear message she was writing.
Because of Gaskell s close selection of detail, shiftment of point of view, and inclusion... Show

In the conversation between Thomas and Wilson, one can see that Thomas speaks less properly
compared to the individual he is interacting with. The dialogue reveals that Thomas has an
accent with words such as, mysel instead of myself th instead of the and ha instead of have. A
widespread belief is that the lack of money is equivalent to the lack of an education, which is
displayed to be true within this section of the passage. The stereotypical way to show others one
has money is to speak like it, Thomas obviously demonstrates that he was not taught this manner.
Also in this conversation, Wilson had not said a word. Readers are lead to believe this was in his
perspective, but in actuality his silence shows it was third person. Wilson and Thomas represent
those who grew up in poverty, they either are taught the English language inaccurately or they are
taught to be quiet. The difference between social classes will always stay as a dominant universal
theme within novels, stories, and plays. In Mary Barton, the contrasted is depicted through her
implied metaphors and detailed illustrations. Her characters, the Carson s, exhibit the misguided
acceptance that those in poverty are simple to abandon and easy to replace. Elizabeth Gaskell is able

I was around seven when my father took me to his work office and I met his boss, Mr. Reed. I prefer
to call him Mr. Boss though. It fit him not only because he was the boss, but because he always
had a scowl on his face. My father had been trying to get on the friendly side of his boss for years,
but I guess he was naturally grumpy because few things could turn his frown upside down. His
wife died two years from a car accident and his only joy in life was his daughter, Lauren. She did
not mope as Mr. Reed did because she had knew she still had a kind of connection with her

The Epidemic of Affluenza is Sweeping Through America Essay
An epidemic is sweeping all through America. This epidemic has affected just about every
individual in America. Millions could be diagnosed with it yet they do not realize they have it. It is
changing the everyday thoughts and actions of those with it. It damages all individuals who let it
consume them. It is nearly impossible to cure. Medication is useless against it. There is not outright
proven immunity to prevent one from receiving this nasty disease. It can cause symptoms such as

At the end of the day, the affluent are still not satisfied with their wealth or material items. Source

Josef Mengele Naturally Evil
Josef Mengele tortured and killed many prisoners who stayed at Auschwitz in the worst, and
most inhumanly ways possible. Dr Mengele was known for conducting amputations on

Josef used injections and killed fourteen innocent children( Josef Mengele 3 ). To make it even

Mengele was so obsessed with twins that he oversaw gruesome tests on 3,000 sets ( Rantings of a

The Roles of Genetics and Nurture on People with Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a lifelong struggle with constant challenges with reading and speaking. About five to
ten percent of the United States population deals with the learning disorder dyslexia (Van den

rare cases in which it is acquired. Dyslexia interrupts the normal processes of reading and
speaking (Van den Honert, n.d.). All of which are used in daily life and this makes life and school

telling a story they sometimes forget where they were going with it. They know what they want
to say and they know the words they want to use but it takes them so much effort to string them
together. (Boston children s hospital, 2005). This causes a dyslexic so much frustration and
also embarrassment (Boston children s hospital, 2005). There are different tests that can be
done to test for dyslexia. One test that is done is giving a person many words that sounds like
real words but are spelled incorrectly. It is hard for dyslexics to pick these words out (Van den
Honert, n.d.). Also, tactile localization is another test used and it tests the corpus callosum. The
patient is instructed to close their eyes while someone touches their finger and the patient must
identify where they were touched and if they make more than two errors this is a sign of dyslexia
(Van den Honert, n.d.). When a person is diagnosed with dyslexia they must be aware of the
challenges they are going to face. They must be educated about their condition and how it will
never go away they just have to try their hardest to overcome it. As a child it creates frustration and
embarrassment while in class, or even talking with friends. Unfortunately there is no treatment but,
there are strategies and actions taken to help people deal with their dyslexia. Treatment for

Global Warming And Its Effect On Ecosystems By Stimulating...
Abstracts
The uses of microcosm are resourceful in giving insight into the behaviors of larger scale systems.
global warming is increasing at escalating rate and could affect ecosystems. Ecosystems are a very
important part of humanity as they provide us with essential services to survive. It is important to
know the factors that could affect this. The use of microcosm experiments can be used to give
information into how ecological communities will be affected by climate change. In this study
sampled populations of the species Paramecium and Euglena were taken over 5 days at different
temperatures using PCR, Microscopes, Serial dilution and spectrophotometry techniques. The
results gathered form over the 5 days showed that increasing temperature over time has an effect on
the microcosms, negatively and positively. This experiment proved that the increase in temperature
through climate change has an effect on ecosystems by stimulating reproduction, interaction and
competition.
Introduction
Climate change through changes in the environment is rapidly increasing and creating a negative
impact on ecological services provided from biodiversity.
Ecosystems are essential to the sustenance of humanity as they provide us with many useful
services like food, energy, water and recycling. (Benton et al., 2007)
An ecosystem is made up of different types of plant and animal species which interact with each
other and most importantly with their environment as one functional unit. The

Limp Bizkit Research Paper
Limp Bizkit played a huge role in the popularity of the nu metal, rap rock genre in the mid 90s.
Telling everyone what they could do with their cookies, the band found success with the smooth
rap and calculated aggressiveness of their hit single, Nookie. Led by Fred Durst and supported
by the skilled guitar playing of Wes Borland, bass player Sam Rivers and drummer John Otto,
Limp Bizkit have released six studio albums since their start in 1994 and are currently working on
their seventh. Though not always critical darlings, they have consistently made the music they

We Must Stop The Slaughter House
Imagine from the moment you are born you are taken away from your mother, mutilated without
anesthesia, and forced into a small cage that is already over capacity. From then on you almost
never get to leave this cage this is where you will spend the rest of your days. You are beaten,
thrown around, and even electrocuted until a certain day, the reason you were born, is here.
Today is the day you are going to be slaughtered. You are crammed into a truck, feeling fresh air
for the first time, for transportation with many others and then taken to the slaughter house.
Once inside you are put into a tight shoot and stunned many times to try and make the process
more humane to no avail. You are pushed through the shoot to a scalding tank that is used to
soften your skin and remove your hair, most likely happening while still conscious. This is how
you die. Being mistreated until the very end and dying a very painful death and never knowing
why this is happening to you. This is the kind of suffering that farm animals go through until
their life is ripped away from them. These horrors tell us that animals are being treated
inhumanly on farms so that companies can make a profit. Cutting corners by not following the
proper slaughter procedure and keeping animals in cages, not allowing them to roam freely
allows large companies to produce meat at a cheaper cost then sell it to other businesses for a
large profit. My question that I hope to answer in this paper will be: is there

The Relationship Between Riverdale And Gilgamesh
Death and grief are common themes in literature and entertainment as a result of their presence
throughout history. These themes create a tie between the most ancient texts and modern pop
culture. An example of this is Gilgamesh and Riverdale. In the ancient Sumerian narrative,
Gilgamesh by Herbert Mason, Gilgamesh, a ruthless king deals with the death of his newfound
friend, Enkidu. Before, Gilgamesh did not care for his people. He forced brides to sleep with him,
and did not take care of the great walls his subjects took so long to make. On the other hand,
Enkidu grew up in the forest with the animals, and learned to protect and respect all beings. Both
maintained their strength and friendship until Enkidu reached his disastrous fate. In the modern TV
show, Riverdale by Rob Seidenglanz, Cheryl Blossomgrieves for her twin brother, Jason. The two
were inseparable from birth, and their entire town was aware. Similarly to Gilgamesh, Cheryl was
unsympathetic and disliked by her peers. Jason, like Enkidu, was more responsible and
compassionate. In both Gilgamesh and Riverdale, characters learn to cope with the loss of a
meaningful person in their life and ultimately experience change as a result.
The friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu, as well as the attachment between Cheryl Blossom
and her brother, Jason, is what makes their deaths so important. Gilgamesh and Enkidu s bond first

The growing demand for energy and the increased use of fossil fuels to meet energy services is
increasing the world s atmospheric greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions primarily carbon dioxide

1.1Canada s Primary Energy Demand
From 1990 to 2009, the primary energy consumption in the Canada has increased by one third

Canada s primary energy production notably crude oil, natural gas and coal representing roughly
about 85 % of the total primary energy production. In Canada, hydro is the important source of
primary electricity production, and with nuclear it accounted for approximately 10.9 percent of the

Persuasive Essay On The Nuclear Bomb
With World War II escalating, the United States agreed to use the world s first nuclear bomb to
end the chaos. Tensions were rising as the western hemisphere finally unraveled the gruesome
techniques Hitler practiced on Jews. As Schweitzer concluded, Hitler and the Nazis replaced the
organismic theory of states with the racial theory of peoples (Schweitzer 61). To prevent more
abuse from happening with Hitler in charge, the United States decided to take action. After Pearl
Harbor, the Japanese, who are allies with Germany, were seen as the major threat to the United
States. Imprisonment were placed on the Japanese as a way to monitor and prevent Japanese
influenced attacks. These actions were brought upon by President Franklin D. Roosevelt shortly
after Peal Harbor. As an act to end the war and to get revenge on Pearl Harbor, the United States
attacked Japan on August 6th, 1945. Hiroshima was the first target because it had been
untouched during the United State s Air Force bombing raids and was a vulnerable military base
for the bomb to be tested. On a quiet Monday morning at 8:15 a.m., the nuclear bomb often

Peter V. North Carolina Case Analysis
In the case of Peter v. North Carolina, we the jury find Michael Peterson not guilty of first
degree murder of his wife Katherine Peterson. The information that was presented in this case
does not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Michael was motivated by an act of malice when he
had decided to take away the life of a loved one. Because of this occurence, Michael is currently
facing another trial in order to see if he is guilty for a crime he did not commit. As a jury, we cannot
condone the act of putting an innocent bystander in a position to be imprisoned if he is not
condemned of the charges that is handed down from court. Convicting Michael as a murderer in
this case would take away the freedom that he deserves and distort the peaceful atmosphere that
surrounds his family.
Keeping this in mind, we need to come to an understanding that being in a jury carries a lot of

In reviewing this case, we believe that the defense is more valid than the prosecutors in this case.
The evidence that was presented from the defense in this case carries a significant amount of
weight that helped to draw us to the conclusion that Michael is innocent and that the event was just
an unfortunate accident. As a jury, we reviewed the defenses owl theory, their take on the peterson
s financial situation, and their explanation of a possible burglary occurring in the home during the
time of the incident. We found the evidence to be very compelling, effective, and notable in its
defense of Michael Peterson. Going forward, we will try to use the information obtained to prove

Who Knew That Consciousness And Moral Responsibility
Who Knew that Consciousness and Moral Responsibility was Simple? In this paper, I will
explicate the views of George Sher and Neil Levy on moral responsibility. These philosophers
present different arguments on determining how and whether an individual can be held morally
responsible for their actions and omissions. To begin this paper, I will address the view of Sher,
following with Levy s view, and then concluding the paper with a contrast of the two views.
George Sher develops his argument in his book, Who Knew?. His main thesis is laid out in the
Full Epistemic Condition, also known as the FEC. Sher s FEC proposes three distinct conditions
under which a person is morally responsible, with the second condition having two subsets. To be
held morally responsible, an individual must fulfill only one of the three conditions. The first two
conditions are distinct conditions under which a person can be held morally blameworthy, while
the third condition specifies conditions under which a person can be held morally praiseworthy. To
explain Sher s view, consider a woman who owns a cat, is married, and has a child. Every evening
during dinner, this woman opens the window while she cooks and gives most of her attention to
her husband and child as they talk to her about their days. The family s cat remains in the kitchen
with them as they prepare for dinner. Whenever the cat approaches the window, the woman
normally yells at the cat to get away from it, in order to keep it safe

My Life in Highschool
The redwood trees around me were around 40 feet tall and probably higher, even though I felt
like I was half way there I still could not see the peak of the enormous giants, three thirds of the
way I stumbled upon a problem for weak branches were in the way of me reaching the top, as the
heights were beginning to hit me I had decided to come down from the tree as the branches
blocked me from continuing. Running out of breath and the slash, that almost showed a piece of
bone, in my leg still bleeding it just prevented me to keep going. The only objects I had in my
backpack were the two ibuprofen and the extra rags left from my shirt. I sat underneath the redwood
tree as a tear ran down my left cheek and touching my lip the salty taste and little by little I began
to remember the good moments I had in life.
On September 18 of 1987 John Martin was born, being received in mother arms, the love
instantly sparked. The only love absent there was father s, before John Martin was born father ran

responsability of him. Yes, John Martin is me, my father left us before I was born. The years that
came after that were the most heaviest for mother, she had to work double shifts, all of that and still
being caught under the control of alcohol.

A Narrative Of An Effective Narrative Is The Point Of View
A compelling historical narrative must not only be an honest representation of events but also
presents diverse details about them. One of the techniques used by authors in creating an effective
narrative is the point of view. The most transparent point of view would be the third person
narration. In this kind of narration, the narrator is knowledgeable about every character s opinions.
He can describe their actions and relay what is going through their minds. In contrast, first person
narrativeuncovers the emotions and opinions of a specific character in the story. The perspective
comes from and is focused on a single character. Although first person narration can be a
powerful technique if used properly, it is not always effective. My goal in this paper is to
expound that a first person narration brings about some complications in the viewpoint and
reliability of a historical narrative. First person narration limits the standpoint of the story. Since
first person narrative only focuses on one character, the characterization of others are disregarded.
For instance, Prince relates a story about his master s daughter and talked about how he often
[gets] drunk, and then he would get in a fury with his daughter, and beat her till she was not fit to
be seen (13). The experience of the daughter is only seen through the observations of Prince. Her
description of her own experiences is not fully discussed. Moreover, the readers are also not
presented about what the other

Conflicts, Disputes, And Solutions
Conflicts, Disputes, and Solutions
Introduction
Over the past century there has been a dramatic increase in conflicts and disputes, especially after
the historic publishing of The Communist Manifesto in 1848, written by the father of conflict
theory Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Till now, even after the Professor Sander s historic paper,
The Pound Conference: Perspectives on Justice in the Future in 1976, people are still trying to find
more effective and efficient solutions to conflicts or disputes ranging from family issues to
commercial disputes, and fortunately, the development of Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) is
the most successful methods for conflicts. The concepts that many people have of conflicts and
disputes is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dispute is the formal name of dysfunctional conflict, which is viewed as a kind of conflict
manifesting itself in a distinct, justiciable issues (Brown and Marriot 1999). This view indicates
that one more feature of the dispute is its justiciability. Burton (1993) further distinguished the two
concepts from a time scale perspective, who suggested that compared with conflict, dispute which
is supposed to be easy to resolve is a kind of short term disagreement that are embedded in a larger
and longer term conflict. Thus, from this analysis of conflict and dispute, it can be suggested that
conflict is inevitable while dispute is needed to be avoided.
As to the reason why conflicts are inevitable, Karl Marx provided a classic view of class struggle,
which said the struggle for scarce resources is the fundamental reason of conflicts. Inherited from
Karl Marx s conflict theory, German sociologist Ralf Dahrendorf pointed out that it is the
unbalanced distribution of scarce resources including authority and wealth that results in conflicts
(Dahrendorf 1963). Dahrendorf (1963) later concluded that because of the existence of ruler and
the ruled in the society, the characteristics of inequality would hardly be removed by society itself,
which indicates that conflict is a trait of the society. This view is supported and further developed
by Acland (1990, p69), who suggested that conflict is the nature

Describe A Child s Positions
Standing The child stands upright with good postural stability and minimal sway if any. His knees
are slightly bent and the leg is in slight external rotation causing the feet to be splayed outward at
about 30 degrees. The boys arms are slightly internally rotated and are help at his side.
Sitting The child is positioned upright in a legs crossed sitting pattern. Posture is good and sway is
nonexistent. The boys arms are bent at the elbows and his forearms are resting just proximal to his
knees on the medial thigh. The cervical spine maintains an upright position over time. The child
displays good postural control with upper extremity deviation from the aforementioned position.

To do so the child used his upper extremities to push his weight back and onto his lower
extremities. In doing so the child quickly and smoothly swung his right leg out in front of his body
and left his left leg crossed mostly bearing the weight of his upper body. In a large amplitude,
smooth, quick movement the child used both legs and neither upper extremity to stand upright
turning his hips to the left to compensate for the crossed leg underneath him (this squared his hips
in such a way that his foot was now facing directly in front of him as he came to standing). The
movement ended with the child in a stable standing position with a good base of support.
These positions and motion were all very well controlled and were executed smoothly. Beyond
these transitions and positions the child displayed multiple combinations of controlled movements
during play. This puts the child into the context specific category of development (ages 7 11). This
child was only 4 years old but displayed proficient movement control that can be considered above
average

Napoleon Hero or Tyrant?
Napoleon Bonaparte goes down in history as one the greatest military commanders of all time.
Many consider him a hero of the French people and the people of the conquered lands spreading
his reforms everywhere. Others believe that he is a tyrant, oppressing citizens and engaging in
aggressive unnecessary wars. This is a controversial topic and both sides can bring up
compelling arguments. First we must define a hero and tyrant, a hero is someone who is
courageous, brave and positively impacts people around him and leaves a legacy. Napoleon
directly fits that definition. A tyrant is a cruel oppressive ruler who treats people unfairly.
Napoleon Bonaparte leaves a heroic legacy due to the actions in his life such as being a brave and

Hg Wells The Time Machine Essay
The Time Machine
The Time Machine is a social critique of Victorian England by H.G. Wells, wrote with the future in
mind. Wells was a socialist who most supported Communists theories and applications. In all his
works, both non fiction and novels, he looked at capitalism and argued that it was one of the
greatest ills that the modern society was facing and would probably continue to face many years
later. The advent of technology, capital mechanism, and education paved the way for the Industrial
Revolution between the 17th and 18th Centuries, and the effects were felt up to the end of the 19th
century. The Time Traveler depicted in The Time Machinewas leading in economic power. The
industrialists by that time were still laboring for long hours in smoke filled and dirty factories, with
meager earnings (Taunton n.p).
Wells took it upon himself to make his argument against capitalismwell understood by

The concept is well symbolized by Wells (37), where the time traveler is observant of this fact. He
could not understand why the Morlocks had taken my time machine and this was the genesis of the
troublesome doubts. He also could not demystify who the Eloi could not restore the machine to me.
This is the law of a capitalist system, where one group must have power over another group
(Taunton n.p.).
The Time Machine is a science fiction that seeks to warn society about the effects of a capitalist
system that were becoming more pronounced towards the end of the nineteenth century. As Marx
puts it, freedom is an elusive concept. Individuals are motivated by their selfish interests geared
economically, well illustrated by the resulting revolt that will be experienced when the Morlocks
have had enough of their enslaving

Question If we were to freeze one glass of water and keep another at room temperature over a
period of twenty four hours how will condensation and expansion affect the water levels of both
glasses?
Hypothesis When I fill up a glass with water and leave it out at room temperature I believe that the
water levels will lower from when we first filled the cup due to condensation happening over night.
After filling up the second cup with water, and letting the water freeze the height of the water will
remain the same. Condensation will have no affect on the frozen water levels after the twenty four
hour period.

Dream relationship with Psychological Well Being We are always trying to decipher our dreams in
one way or another. Are our dreams tied to our emotions? Are they triggered by random thoughts?
What are the meaning of our dreams or do they not mean anything? This longitudinal study is going
to help us answer some of those questions. There have been several studies throughout the years
regarding dreams states, but this study is the first published in 2006 that reviews the correlation
between dream content and psychological well being (Pesent Zadra, 2006). Please follow along
as we review this important study. This study examines the correlation between our dream states
and our psychological well being conducted by Nicholas Pesant and Antonio Zadra. They had
two hypotheses they were testing in this study. The first one they tested is does the participants
psychological well being scores correlate with their positive or negative dream characteristics?
The second one was would their dream characteristics change over the two different time periods
of the study if the psychological well being scores reduced? In the main body of this review will
be discussing the method, process, results and a discussion about this study. The first step that was
taken was to recruit the participants . They used the newspaper to announce their series of studies

The Pros And Cons Of Banning The Armalite Rifle
The AR 15 (ArmaLite Rifle) is a modern sporting rifle that has been a main controversy in America
which dominates the gun control conversation. With the mass shootings that occurred in the
previous years, the AR 15 was the dominant weapon used in these tragedies. This semi automatic
rifle is classified by the media as an assault riflein which it is not because the AR 15 is not
automatic. The supporters of banning the AR 15 and Gun Control believe that it will stop mass
shootings from happening, but there is no evidence that banning any assault weapon would prevent
mass shootings. The AR 15 should not be banned because the Second Amendment of the United
StatesConstitution protects individual gun ownership. This weapon is mainly used for hunting and
defense, but banning this rifle will not prevent any more mass shooting from occurring since the

People who are against this rifle being legal often ask supporters of the rifle Is it necessary to
use this weapon outside of military combat? . The AR 15 is one of the most popular rifles of all
time and it is used by many American hunters because of the rifles effectiveness. The AR 15 is
effective when hunting due to the higher magazine capacity and quicker fire power compared
to other standard bolt action hunting rifles. The opposing side would argue that it is not
necessary to have a quicker fire rate for hunters, but the AR 15 is needed for farmers who are
having their farms ruined by wild hogs. Many farmers are losing thousands of acres of crops as
well as money due to a high population of wild hogs. People believe that you should only use a
bolt action rifle, but when there are dozens of wild hogs destroying your crops, it is necessary to
use a semi automatic rifle. The AR 15 in this case would be able to kill many wild animals faster
than a standard bolt action rifle that takes longer to shoot and is less

Race in Shakespeare
Since the Middle Ages, the issues of race have long been discussed. In nearly every culture, race
has been a topic of complex discussion that has brought social discomfort and in most instances
racial prejudice Elizabethan England being no exception. William Shakespeare applies the issue of
race in many of his plays; such in the tragedy of Othello that captures the reality of society in
Elizabethan England, showing common racial bias of that era. Through his characters in the play,
Shakespeare illustrates Elizabethan social ideology towards race, in which foreigners have adapted
to a lifestyle of racial prejudice.
In order to better understand the racial context behind the tragedy of Othello it is important to keep

Desdemona and Othello share for each other is too strong for race to become an issue between them.

critic of Othello throughout the play, share with Roderigo and the audience his intentions of
revenge against Othello. Here not only do we unravel Iago s personal hatred for Othello, but
Roderigo s racial views as well. What a full fortune does the thick lips owe if he can carry t thus!
(I, i ,65) Roderigo, who wants to win Desdemona s love away from Othello at any cost, calls
Othello as thick lips , a racial stereotype of blacks, when responding to Iago about their plans to
turn Venetians such as Desdemona s father Brabantio, against Othello. As Roderigo and Iago go
to awake Brabantio in the middle of the night to tell him of the news that Desdemona ran off
with Othello to get married, multiple stereotypes and slurs are used in this exchange. Iago tells
Brabantio that he s been robbed of his soul, for Othello has taken Desdemona by some sort of
curse, being that there s no way a prominent Venetian woman would go off to marry a barbarian
instead of a Venetian man. Because we come to do you service and you think we are ruffians, you

Corruption as a Consequence of Colonialism
Corruption as a Consequence of Colonialism as portrayed in Achebe s The African Trilogy
All quotations are taken from the 1988 Picador edition of Chinua Achebe s The African Trilogy
He has put a knife on all the things that held us together and we have fallen apart (Things Fall
Apart, 145)
The things that held the Igbo tribe together were their close bonds of clan kinship, unified
allegiance to their gods, and their democratic society. These were the very things that the English
set out to attack, to put a knife on . Once they began this process, Igbo society was never to be the
same again. Chinua Achebe s The African Trilogy, while an excellent piece of literature in its own

This confusion at the refusal of the Igbos to accept positions such as this is well illustrated in
Arrow of God:
Well, are you accepting the offer or not? Clarke glowed with the I know this will knock you over

Tell the white man that Ezeulu will not be anybody s chief, except Ulu
What! shouted Clarke. Is the fellow mad?
I tink so sah, said the interpreter.
In that case he goes back to prison. Clarke was now really angry. What cheek! A witch doctor
making a fool of the British Administration in public! (498)
The selection of Ezeulu as a potential Warrant Chief is typical of the kind of selection regularly
made by the British a man who was already in the possession of real authority and wealth in his
community. However, the responses of those chosen were not always as idealistic as Ezeulu s.
Many Igbos jumped at the chance of some real power, safe in the knowledge that they were backed
by British officials, and Warrant chiefs became notorious for their corruptionand exploitation.

Coastal Adaptation Paper
Historically, misconceptions about coastal and other aquatic adaptations are persistent in
archaeology due to: (1) long standing ideas that aquatic resources are marginal foods, (2) unclear
definitions of what constitutes aquatic versus terrestrial resources, (3) changing sea levels, erosion,
and the destruction of coastal archaeological sites, (4) differential preservation, recovery, and
reporting of aquatic remains, and (5) holdovers from the Man the Hunter paradigm, which tend to
overemphasize terrestrial hunting activities (Erlandson 2001). Consequently, coastal and other

Immediate return hunter gatherers have direct access to resources and consume their foraging

accumulation of property, territoriality, and hierarchical social organization (Rowley Conwy

How Does Alba Present Ideas About Life And Death
In the plays Waiting for Godot and The House of Bernarda Alba, life and death are significant
concepts. Life is meaningless in Godot as they merely wait until death, whilst Bernarda Alba
depicts futility of life without passion, love or freedom. The House of Bernarda Alba, through
Adela s rebellious spirit signifies living a life that is passionate, while in Waiting for GodotBeckett
seems to imply that life is meaningless. Whilst Waiting for Godot focuses more on the metaphorical
aspect of death, The House of Bernarda Albatakes on the literal death through Adela s suicide. As
playwrights, Lorca and Beckett convey their views on life and death through their works. Beckett

Additionally, Estragon throws away his boots. The act of throwing away his boots is an act of
giving up, reiterating futility of life. This dismal view of life contrasts significantly with Lorca
s passionate view on life, as expressed through his portrayal of Adela as a vivacious, hopeful
young woman. When mother was in mourning, Adela gave her a round fan with green and red
colors (Lorca 164). The color green and red signifies vitality and courage. In Hispanic Culture,
green is symbolized as hope. When everyone s wearing black, she chooses to wear her green
dress and go walking in the streets (Lorca 173). Mainly through the colors she wears,
characterizes her as a very passionate person. While others stays at home and sew, Adela walks
in the streets . Lorca views life as a precious gift that possesses outstanding variety and
possibility. In contrast, Beckett characterizes life as meaningless. Time shouldn t be labeled.
One day a person went dumb... went blind... go deaf...were born...shall die, the same day, the
same second (Beckett 103). The repetition of diction choice the same is used to discard
differences between day and second . It is pointless to label time because our lives are cyclical
and at end, everything will die. This is a big contrast to Adela s life, which its events are full of
importance. The

It is responsible for making a speech and talking easily and smoothly, though Broca s area is more responsible for the collaboration between frontal, temporal and motor areas that are responsible for speech production than forming the speech itself and the inability to form smooth and clear speech is a consequence of a damage to this area. • 6. Ghost Sightings In The 18th Century There are many things in our world that we cannot explain. We ve used religion, science, stories, and theories, anything we could come up with to explain life s mysteries. One subject of interest that we are all still stumped on are things classified as paranormal. Paranormal activity is a very debatable topic, with some saying ghosts and poltergeists are as real as you and me, while others try to explain the weird happenings as something natural. Even if one believes in the paranormal or not, the subject is, to say the least, very interesting. All over the world, there are claims of supernaturalthings going on; there are ghostsightings every day, especially around historical places, more specifically where mass killings or bloody battles have taken place. One of these places that is famous for its ghostly visitors is the Tower of London, located in The London Borough of Tower Hamlets, England. • 7. The Golden Age Of Piracy Essay The Golden Age of Piracy existed within the Atlantic World in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It was during this time that the enterprise of piracy expanded and then abruptly ended. During this time, privateering was also an active enterprise ebbing and flowing with international conflicts. The line between the two was often blurred and created a political conundrum that people on both sides found it difficult to navigate. The life of a pirate was appealing to many on land and sea. The common conception of piracyportrays the enterprise as a disorganized anarchy. This is not true, piracy was a complex entity within the Atlantic world. The enterprise of piracy and privateering was complex as it navigated the seas, the Atlantic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These interactions show that piracy was more than criminal activity, it was a business. John Appleby extensively covers the relationships between pirates and women. Some were married, like Edward Teach (Blackbeard), who was married multiple times. A few became pirates to escape marriage, like Stede Bonnet. Women had many roles in relation to piracy. They were receivers and maintainers who conducted business with pirates: they bought plunder, provided lodging and safe houses, and provided entertainment and food. (APPLEBY 5). The role of women grew along with the growth of river piracy where they took part in brokering and distributing stolen plunder. These discrete networks helped piracy succeed (APPLEBY 5). At pirate bases, such as Port Royal, women were a source of entertainment and pleasure. Women were not immune from the violence and abuse that accompanied pirates wherever they went. Evidence suggests female abuse by pirates peaked during the Golden Age in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries when long distance plunder emerged, weakening the links ashore. Piracy remained a largely male experience, with just a few notable female pirates, such as Anne ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of Pablo Picasso s Guernica It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and that art is an expression of a human s creativity sometimes relating to a specific theme or event. Within pictures it is easy to recognize the story going on most of the time because it is usually a direct unobscured scene, however art is more difficult due to human creativity. Looking back at art history, various painters and sculptors created images inspired within their life that reflected some type of teaching or value, and telling stories without saying a single word. Pablo Picassois one example of these painters as one looks at one of his most famous paintings which is Guernica. An average person would look at the painting and just see random figures and odd shapes, but when taking more time to evaluate the art work one sees the true meaning of the pain and suffering during the bombing of Guernica. The women and children were depicted as defenseless and innocent and presented by Picasso as the perfection to mankind. By portraying them as such, Pablo Picasso sent the message that the assault on the women and children was an assault on the core of mankind. But how does the meaning of art and pictures relate to our church that stand at Sacred Heart University? Well, not only does the church contain mosaics and artwork inside, but the whole church itself is a big piece of art that sends a message about our school and community. Walking by the church someone may not recognize the meaning behind the church but like any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One category of symptoms is the extensive physical symptoms an anorexia victim will experience and exhibit. Some symptoms that will outwardly appear on the victim are dermatological problems such as dry, cracking skin; fine, downy hair; even a yellowish discoloration of the skin that may persist for years after the weight is regained (Nevid, Rathus, Greene, 2014, p. 336). Other physical symptoms that are less noticeable include heart irregularities, hypotension, and associated dizziness upon standing, sometimes causing blackouts, (Nevid, Rathus, Greene, 2014, p. 337) abdominal pain, and obstruction or paralysis of the bowels or intestines, (Nevid, Rathus,... By the summer of seventh grade, she appeared emaciated with her hip bones and ribs clearly protruding through her skin. It was definitely a drastic change since until then, she was moderately overweight. I had no idea how to address the problem but I believe her parents supported her and she reached a healthy weight after a year or so. She now eats normal portions of food and instead of limiting her intake, exercises an average amount to maintain a healthy physique rather than an emaciated one. Anorexia, although still considered rare, has shown how dangerous and deadly its effects are if it is not taken seriously. Social pressures, just one of the factors that cause anorexia, that overwhelm people, especially women, must be limited. Currently, people are taking a stand against them. One common example is the fight for banning Photoshop on models in magazines since they convey unrealistic expectations for women. By continuing this fight against social pressures, we are one step closer to lessening the amount of people affected by anorexia. (Word Count: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These earliest Christians defined their faith to fit the life of Jesus into an orthodox Jewish context. Only later did these congregations evolve into what can be called a church with a formal organization and set of beliefs. Christianity might have remained just another sect had it not reached Rome, the capital of the Western world. Events in Rome proved to be a dramatic step in the spread of Christianity for various reasons. First, Jesus had told his followers to spread his word throughout the world, thus making his teachings universal. The pagan Romans also considered their secular empire universal, and early Christians there combined these two concepts of universalism. Secular Rome provided another advantage to Christianity. If all roads led to Rome, they also led outward to the provinces of central and Western Europe. The very stability and extent of the Roman Empire enabled early Christians easily to spread their faith southward to Africa and northward into Europe and across the channel to Britain. ... • 12. Facebook Is Off By Yvetne Marche Marche starts his essay off by telling the story of a woman named Yvette Vickers; she was a lonely woman who became even more lonely using the internet as her only way to connect with people. He explains that Americans are more solitary than ever before (Marche, 2) so it is easy to use Facebook as a scapegoat for our loneliness but in reality it is just a new way that we present our loneliness. In his essay Marche makes it very clear that it is not Facebook that is making society lonely, but instead people are using Facebook as a way of changing the form of their already apparent loneliness. This essay was one that was very clear and gave many reasons as to why Facebook is not the source of our feelings of loneliness and also made many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marche uses the metaphor that [Facebook is] like a car (Marche, 7) because you can use it as a way to isolate yourself or you can use it as a way to interact with others and use it as a social tool. Marche also gives the reader an example of an effective and healthy way that social media is used versus an unhealthy way by using an example of a football game. Marche states that if you use social media as a way to organize a game of football among your friends, that s healthy. [But] if you turn to social media instead of playing football, however, that s unhealthy, (Marche, 7) which is a very good example because it shows the reader that social media was really just meant as a social platform, not one that is used an excuse to not be social. The metaphors and examples that Marche uses really enhance the persuasion and effectiveness of his essay because it makes the reader really think of Facebook with an unbiased mind rather than thinking of it as what it s known to be and all the bad things that are associated with ... You see how she views the world and see the way she looks at life. Quarterback is by far the deepest position group in fantasy football, and you only draft one or two of them, so hitting on a consistent producer who can deliver high point totals is crucial for your fantasy title hopes. I would feel comfortable with starting, or having on my team, most of the quarterbacks that inhabit the first four tiers below. That said, if I pass on the top guys, which is likely, I ll most likely draft two QB s that I think can be good and platoon them until one emerges as the guy. • 15. Freeze And Thaw In Concrete The Effects of Freeze and Thaw in Concrete Most people think concrete is an impenetrable solid. But in actually, concrete is a porous material with many capillaries and voids throughout the surface. Although concrete is strong in compressive strength, it is weak in tensile stength and elasticity. Concrete can tolerate heavy loads, but it is susceptible to damage which causes it to break apart over time. One damaging effect is freezing water. When water melts, it absorbs into the pores and capillaries. As the water freezes and expands, it weakens the strength of the concrete. This causes concrete scaling, delamination, and cracking. The freeze and thaw cycle isn t restricted to just northern climates. It also occurs in warmer climates where the temperature drops below freezing at night, and rises above freezing during the day. The Characteristics Of The Jazz Style Of Ella Fitzgerald Learning a great deal about musicality, the business side of music and how to take care of herself, the next few years brought a great deal of success to Chick Webb and herself. With the raise of the new jazz style, bebop, jazz music moved from the diatonic conventions of the swing era to more chromatic harmonies, complex rhythms and more notes and chord options. This style caught Ella s attention and during her time with the Chick Webb band, she got her start improvising in the bop style. Ella is said to have described the early days of the bop revolution as something of a nightmare. I felt that I was being left behind, and I was, she says. A few years later Ella found herself as the guest touring with Gillespie s band. She was thrilled to listen to this new music day in and day out on the road and quickly found she had enough musicianship and ears or ability to hear the intricacies of this hipper jazz. Ella Fitzgerald became an expert with the new modern rhythms and harmonies and her improvisation and musicianship as a singer improved drastically. Her inspirations during this era were Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and she was able to imitate their playing style and the timbre of the saxophone and trumpet. The dialogue reveals that Thomas has an accent with words such as, mysel instead of myself th instead of the and ha instead of have. A widespread belief is that the lack of money is equivalent to the lack of an education, which is displayed to be true within this section of the passage. The stereotypical way to show others one has money is to speak like it, Thomas obviously demonstrates that he was not taught this manner. Also in this conversation, Wilson had not said a word. Readers are lead to believe this was in his perspective, but in actuality his silence shows it was third person. This is the kind of suffering that farm animals go through until their life is ripped away from them. These horrors tell us that animals are being treated inhumanly on farms so that companies can make a profit. Cutting corners by not following the proper slaughter procedure and keeping animals in cages, not allowing them to roam freely allows large companies to produce meat at a cheaper cost then sell it to other businesses for a large profit. My question that I hope to answer in this paper will be: is there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Relationship Between Riverdale And Gilgamesh Death and grief are common themes in literature and entertainment as a result of their presence throughout history. These themes create a tie between the most ancient texts and modern pop culture. An example of this is Gilgamesh and Riverdale. In the ancient Sumerian narrative, Gilgamesh by Herbert Mason, Gilgamesh, a ruthless king deals with the death of his newfound friend, Enkidu. Before, Gilgamesh did not care for his people. He forced brides to sleep with him, and did not take care of the great walls his subjects took so long to make. On the other hand, Enkidu grew up in the forest with the animals, and learned to protect and respect all beings. Both maintained their strength and friendship until Enkidu reached his disastrous fate. In the modern TV show, Riverdale by Rob Seidenglanz, Cheryl Blossomgrieves for her twin brother, Jason. The two were inseparable from birth, and their entire town was aware. Similarly to Gilgamesh, Cheryl was unsympathetic and disliked by her peers. Jason, like Enkidu, was more responsible and compassionate. In both Gilgamesh and Riverdale, characters learn to cope with the loss of a meaningful person in their life and ultimately experience change as a result. The friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu, as well as the attachment between Cheryl Blossom and her brother, Jason, is what makes their deaths so important. The information that was presented in this case does not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Michael was motivated by an act of malice when he had decided to take away the life of a loved one. Because of this occurence, Michael is currently facing another trial in order to see if he is guilty for a crime he did not commit. As a jury, we cannot condone the act of putting an innocent bystander in a position to be imprisoned if he is not condemned of the charges that is handed down from court. Convicting Michael as a murderer in this case would take away the freedom that he deserves and distort the peaceful atmosphere that surrounds his family. Keeping this in mind, we need to come to an understanding that being in a jury carries a lot of weight because a decision we make will bring forth life changing consequences. • 41. Who Knew That Consciousness And Moral Responsibility Who Knew that Consciousness and Moral Responsibility was Simple? In this paper, I will explicate the views of George Sher and Neil Levy on moral responsibility. These philosophers present different arguments on determining how and whether an individual can be held morally responsible for their actions and omissions. To begin this paper, I will address the view of Sher, following with Levy s view, and then concluding the paper with a contrast of the two views. George Sher develops his argument in his book, Who Knew?. His main thesis is laid out in the Full Epistemic Condition, also known as the FEC. Sher s FEC proposes three distinct conditions under which a person is morally responsible, with the second condition having two subsets. To be held morally responsible, an individual must fulfill only one of the three conditions. The first two conditions are distinct conditions under which a person can be held morally blameworthy, while the third condition specifies conditions under which a person can be held morally praiseworthy. To explain Sher s view, consider a woman who owns a cat, is married, and has a child. Every evening during dinner, this woman opens the window while she cooks and gives most of her attention to her husband and child as they talk to her about their days. The family s cat remains in the kitchen with them as they prepare for dinner. • 43. A Narrative Of An Effective Narrative Is The Point Of View A compelling historical narrative must not only be an honest representation of events but also presents diverse details about them. One of the techniques used by authors in creating an effective narrative is the point of view. The most transparent point of view would be the third person narration. In this kind of narration, the narrator is knowledgeable about every character s opinions. He can describe their actions and relay what is going through their minds. In contrast, first person narrativeuncovers the emotions and opinions of a specific character in the story. The perspective comes from and is focused on a single character. Although first person narration can be a powerful technique if used properly, it is not always effective. My goal in this paper is to expound that a first person narration brings about some complications in the viewpoint and reliability of a historical narrative. First person narration limits the standpoint of the story. Since first person narrative only focuses on one character, the characterization of others are disregarded. For instance, Prince relates a story about his master s daughter and talked about how he often [gets] drunk, and then he would get in a fury with his daughter, and beat her till she was not fit to be seen (13). Dispute is the formal name of dysfunctional conflict, which is viewed as a kind of conflict manifesting itself in a distinct, justiciable issues (Brown and Marriot 1999). This view indicates that one more feature of the dispute is its justiciability. Burton (1993) further distinguished the two concepts from a time scale perspective, who suggested that compared with conflict, dispute which is supposed to be easy to resolve is a kind of short term disagreement that are embedded in a larger and longer term conflict. Thus, from this analysis of conflict and dispute, it can be suggested that conflict is inevitable while dispute is needed to be avoided. As to the reason why conflicts are inevitable, Karl Marx provided a classic view of class struggle, which said the struggle for scarce resources is the fundamental reason of conflicts. Inherited from Karl Marx s conflict theory, German sociologist Ralf Dahrendorf pointed out that it is the unbalanced distribution of scarce resources including authority and wealth that results in conflicts (Dahrendorf 1963). Dahrendorf (1963) later concluded that because of the existence of ruler and the ruled in the society, the characteristics of inequality would hardly be removed by society itself, which indicates that conflict is a trait of the society. This view is supported and further developed by Acland (1990, p69), who suggested that conflict is the nature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Iago tells Brabantio that he s been robbed of his soul, for Othello has taken Desdemona by some sort of curse, being that there s no way a prominent Venetian woman would go off to marry a barbarian instead of a Venetian man. Because we come to do you service and you think we are ruffians, you ll have your daughter covered with a Barbary horse, you ll have your nephews neigh to you, you ll have coursers for cousins and jennets ... Corruption as a Consequence of Colonialism Corruption as a Consequence of Colonialism as portrayed in Achebe s The African Trilogy All quotations are taken from the 1988 Picador edition of Chinua Achebe s The African Trilogy He has put a knife on all the things that held us together and we have fallen apart (Things Fall Apart, 145) The things that held the Igbo tribe together were their close bonds of clan kinship, unified allegiance to their gods, and their democratic society. These were the very things that the English set out to attack, to put a knife on . Once they began this process, Igbo society was never to be the same again. Chinua Achebe s The African Trilogy, while an excellent piece of literature in its own right, can also be read as an excellent historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This confusion at the refusal of the Igbos to accept positions such as this is well illustrated in Arrow of God: Well, are you accepting the offer or not? Clarke glowed with the I know this will knock you over feeling of a benefactor. Tell the white man that Ezeulu will not be anybody s chief, except Ulu What! shouted Clarke. Is the fellow mad? I tink so sah, said the interpreter. In that case he goes back to prison. Clarke was now really angry. What cheek! A witch doctor making a fool of the British Administration in public! (498) The selection of Ezeulu as a potential Warrant Chief is typical of the kind of selection regularly made by the British a man who was already in the possession of real authority and wealth in his community. However, the responses of those chosen were not always as idealistic as Ezeulu s. Many Igbos jumped at the chance of some real power, safe in the knowledge that they were backed by British officials, and Warrant chiefs became notorious for their corruptionand exploitation. Speaking of the Warrant Chief he has instigated in Okperi, Winterbottom exclaims: The man was a complete non entity until we crowned him, and now he carries on as if he had been nothing else all his ... • 54. Coastal Adaptation Paper Historically, misconceptions about coastal and other aquatic adaptations are persistent in archaeology due to: (1) long standing ideas that aquatic resources are marginal foods, (2) unclear definitions of what constitutes aquatic versus terrestrial resources, (3) changing sea levels, erosion, and the destruction of coastal archaeological sites, (4) differential preservation, recovery, and reporting of aquatic remains, and (5) holdovers from the Man the Hunter paradigm, which tend to overemphasize terrestrial hunting activities (Erlandson 2001). Consequently, coastal and other aquatic adaptations are poorly documented worldwide; the economic output of aquatic environments, and the nature of societies inhabiting them, continues to be debated... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to differences in the relative importance of hunting versus gathering activities, some researchers make distinctions among hunter gatherers and gatherer hunters; whereas others use the term forager for its supposedly neutral connotation (Burch and Ellanna 1994). Immediate return hunter gatherers have direct access to resources and consume their foraging yields with minimal delay; these societies are characterized by residential mobility, egalitarianism, and minimal accumulation of personal property (Rowley and Conwy 2001). In contrast, delayed return hunter gatherers utilize technical facilities (e.g., nets and weirs) and may store foraging yields for later consumption; these societies are characterized by a higher degree of sedentism, accumulation of property, territoriality, and hierarchical social organization (Rowley Conwy ... • 55. How Does Alba Present Ideas About Life And Death In the plays Waiting for Godot and The House of Bernarda Alba, life and death are significant concepts. Life is meaningless in Godot as they merely wait until death, whilst Bernarda Alba depicts futility of life without passion, love or freedom. The House of Bernarda Alba, through Adela s rebellious spirit signifies living a life that is passionate, while in Waiting for GodotBeckett seems to imply that life is meaningless. Whilst Waiting for Godot focuses more on the metaphorical aspect of death, The House of Bernarda Albatakes on the literal death through Adela s suicide. As playwrights, Lorca and Beckett convey their views on life and death through their works. Beckett portrays a cyclical, boring existence in Waiting for Godot, whilst... This dismal view of life contrasts significantly with Lorca s passionate view on life, as expressed through his portrayal of Adela as a vivacious, hopeful young woman. When mother was in mourning, Adela gave her a round fan with green and red colors (Lorca 164). The color green and red signifies vitality and courage. In Hispanic Culture, green is symbolized as hope. When everyone s wearing black, she chooses to wear her green dress and go walking in the streets (Lorca 173). Mainly through the colors she wears, characterizes her as a very passionate person. While others stays at home and sew, Adela walks in the streets . Lorca views life as a precious gift that possesses outstanding variety and possibility. In contrast, Beckett characterizes life as meaningless. Time shouldn t be labeled. One day a person went dumb... went blind... go deaf...were born...shall die, the same day, the same second (Beckett 103). The repetition of diction choice the same is used to discard differences between day and second . It is pointless to label time because our lives are cyclical and at end, everything will die. This is a big contrast to Adela s life, which its events are full of importance. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
