The Life Of President Lincoln
Ben Garner Mr.Tapie Social Studies Period 7 21 May 2015 The Life of President Lincoln President
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, is often spoke of in a serious manner, being
that during his presidency a civil war took place, slaves were freed, a president openly wanted blacks
and women to have rights, and many other things that seem utterly ridiculous, for the time period in
which they took place. However, there is another side of Lincoln that is rarely focused on, who
Lincoln was as a person. His personality, his life. This is the story of Abraham (No middle name)
Lincoln. To begin, some background knowledge and information about Lincoln should be discussed.
First, Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in rural Kentucky. Now, some interesting facts about
Lincoln, he battled depression most of his life, Lincoln although never really stated what he identified
as, it was believed that he was an agnostic or at most a deist, but did not identify to any particular
religion, and he did not drink, chew tobacco, or smoke. To begin Lincoln s early life, he had a poor
relationship with his father after his mother died. He believed his father lacked ambition and regarded
him as anti intellectual. His father represented the things Lincoln wanted to get away from. In spring
of 1831 Lincoln left his parents (father and stepmother) to try to make a life for himself. He was a
popular young man, a likeable person in general; in his young age Lincoln

Trust And Distrity And Integrityrity In The United States...
Trust and integrity are the fundamental foundations of the United States Army; all new recruits learn
the Army Values, the Warrior Ethos, and the Soldier s Creed starting on their first day. Even with this
strong foundation, the Army has some weaknesses in its integrity that need improvement; two areas
that require improvement are untruthful reporting and fraternization. There are also successful
implementation of programs to improve the trust and integrity; the Sexual Harassment/Assault
Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program is one of them.
Soldiers have become comfortable with fudging the truth and not telling the whole story. One of the
biggest and most common ways that the Army is untruthful is by incorrectly reporting information and
statistics to higher authority. One of the first instances of dishonesty a Soldier sees in the United States
Army is pencil whipping 350 1 training.
At my first duty station, I was inprocessing my unit. While filling out documents, the training non
commissioned officer (NCO) came up to me and handed a sign in sheet on a clipboard to me. She then
explained the company completed some training earlier that day and I needed to sign the sheet. I was
appalled and I did not sign into the training since I did not complete it. Unfortunately, the integrity that
I showed by not signing the sheet, did not last very long. I quickly learned that there was never enough
time for all of the training the Army expected its Soldiers to complete.

The Importance Of Convocation At Bryant University
Convocation Convocation, a tradition at Bryant University, brings together the entire freshman class
and unites us an as whole based on our past accomplishments and our want for more in our futures. As
Michelle Coutier talked about the various accomplishments of our class, I found that I related to many
and felt as though I contributed to some of those accomplishments. I began to feel in touch with the
entire class that I have entered into Bryant with based on our desires to help others, contribute to the
community and yearning for competition. Convocation is a commonality between each and every
freshman, it marks the transition from high school student to young adult college students. Our class

White Tailed Deer Article Summary
In the journal article White Tailed Deer as Keystone Species within Forest Habitats of Virginia the
authors, William J. McShea and John H. Rappole, go in depth to how white tailed Deer affect the
abundance and distribution of vertebrate species in Virginia. The authors hypothesized that White
Tailed Deer influence the arrangement of winged creatures and warm blooded animals indirectly
through changing of the natural surroundings and specifically through the utilization of shared
nourishment sorts. The authors tested this hypothesis by testing four different areas in Virginia within
the Shenandoah National Park, the National Zoo s Conservation and the Research Center in Front
Royal. In these areas, a collector, which had a mast collector,

Research Paper On Iroquois Tribes
The Iroquois people consisted of many different tribes rather than one big group. These groups
included the Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, Mohawk, Cayuga and the Tuscarora. The Iroquois have
occupied the Eastern Woodlands for over 4,000 years. The Iroquois tribes first settled in the Eastern
Woodlands located in the Eastern United States. This area had thick forests, rivers, hills, and
mountains. One thing the Iroquois were best known for were their longhouses. These longhouses were
estimated to be longer than the length of an entire football field. Inside of the longhouse, there is an
aisle in the middle and living space on either side. The longhouses were matrilineal, so when a
marriage occurred, the family would move into the longhouse of the mother. The Iroquois usually
lived in clans, or groups of families. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The women usually harvested most of the food. They ate deohako, or life supporters, which were corn,
beans, and squash. These three crops could also be known as the three sisters. They could be mixed
together to create a vegetable dish called succotash. The Iroquois people also picked lots of
blueberries, strawberries, and cranberries. Tools were created for farming, such as the wooden rake
used to level the soil, and a wooden spade to dig the soil. After food was dried, it would be placed into
clay pots that were lined with bark to keep mice out. In the fall, men usually hunted for animals like
elk, bears, deer and wolves. During the spring, they would go fishing. Men would also help clear
fields and build villages, but their primary job was warfare. The Iroquois were always grateful for their

Patriotism And Patriotism In World War I
Patriotism in World War I The First World War, a conflict between the Allied Powers and the Central
Powers, began in 1914. The United States did not join the Allied Powers until 1917. The popular
music during the mid 1910s displays the patriotism and nationalism shown by the American people
during the time the United States joined the war. The United States was attempting to stay out of the
war because they wanted to remain neutral and to maintain proper relations with foreign countries, but
nonetheless, they joined because tensions with Germany were increasing and the Zimmerman
Telegram was sent which suggests the idea of Germany becoming allies with Mexico. This was the
starting point of patriotism in the United States because once the people saw war as inevitable, they
began to feel confidence in the capabilities of their country, (Royde Smith). Pieces of sheet music
from this time period include The Fight Is On. Song, by J.R. Shannon and Carl D. Vandersloot;
America Today (Don t Worry Uncle Sam s Alright), by Herbert Moore and W.R. Williams; and When
Woodrow Wilson Takes A Hand, by S.E. Cox. These pieces are the beginnings of the contemporary
American belief that the United States is superior to all opposing powers. The sheet music of wartime,
therefore, reflects the attitudes of the American people throughout this period. The 1918 song, The
Fight Is On. Song, by J.R. Shannon and Carl D. Vandersloot builds on the emotions of the United
States entering into World War I. The cover of the sheet music depicts a soldier fighting for the Allied
Powers, storming into a trench of the Central Powers to attack. The broader scene shown is on a
battlefield, and the background portrays the chaos of war. Above the mayhem shown in this picture is
a true symbol of patriotism: the waving American flag. The song s lyrics target patriotic, pro war
Americans. The denotative meaning of the lyrics is that the United States is going to fight in the first
World War. They are going to bring all of their power and strength to the battle and not stop until the
war is over. The lyrics make several claims that the United States is fighting for their freedom. This is
made clear when the song says, For we are knowing

An Analysis Of Rick Moody s Boys
Each story makes use of a very unique tone and form of narration yet these same qualities can be
compared to some extent across these essays. The authors utilize different forms of writing to convey
their intended focus to the audience. I found each story relative to one another in that they all seemed
to touch of the subject of the roles of different genders in our contemporary society maybe even across
different cultures.
Rick Moody s short story Boys is written with a distinct style. The author uses a form of a stream of
consciousness to convey the purpose at hand, which encompasses writing as if without hesitation or
editing whatever came to Moody s thoughts, he transferred to text. There was also a substantial use of
the word boys , placing emphasis on the central meaning of the story. The style is thoroughly
descriptive and fails to leave any details of the boys lives out. This quality donates a sense of reality
and creates a bond between the reader and the characters. The tone of the story comes of as
particularly unbiased and serious, as if the author were just stating purely factual information. As
events become more somber in the boys lives, the author approaches a more sympathetic tone. The
boys were supposed to be kids, fooling around playing games and living a care free childhood, but
these boys found themselves in scenarios no boy or child should ever encompass.
In the story Boys by Rick Moody from the book Literature To Go, The narrator writes

Internal Conflict In Macbeth
Conflict happens when two or more people have an disagreement on same topic, or when people clash
in relationship. Warfare is presented as gruesome, unspeakable of hatred and sickening dream, warfare
is often portrayed as bloody and troublesome in literature, because many of the battles involves
violence and death. Hero in many occasions are presented as abnormal, who is very talented, who is
capable to safe people, nevertheless when it comes to failure, the hero is just like an ordinary human,
Shakespeare played and twisted the role of hero, using the character Macbeth. The play Macbeth and
pro also con poems about the war, made me determine that conflict involves physical strength in
fighting, but also serious internal breakdown in emotions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point, Macbeth appears to the audience, that he is suffering from inner conflict, we can see this,
because Shakespeare presents his indicate messed up feelings, and his over running lines in the play.
Shakespeare has Macbeth present as cowardice human in this scene, compared to before, because
from this scene Macbeth is expressing all his worries and his fear of the consequences after the murder
of Duncan. The impression of Macbeth to the audience has rapidly changed from loyal gallant, brave
and trustworthy after the greed of ambition ,to become king, to a man that has lost his way, that doesn
t know how to continue on wards. Macbeth stating, we still have judgement here, that we but
teach/bloody instructions which being taught return/ to plague the inventor within the soliloquy it s
showing how concerned and nervous he is, Macbeth s speech is symbolizing his nerves, and his hear
rate within that long enjambment speech, because clearly it s showing us the lines from the speech is
running over each other. The word judgement suggest it s another word for god, this shows Macbeth is
frightened about god judging on him in afterlife, because he knows if he kills the king, he is going
against god, because the king has the divine right, that is given by god, this connotes in the Jacobean
period, people believed a lot in god, for considering decision before doing it, linking with god. This is
why Macbeth is so worried, he is scared, that he may go to hell, because of his ambition to become
king, for he who didn t have the divine right. From the massive changes, we can see Shakespeare is
telling us that there s no perfect hero, hero fails too, everybody makes mistakes even hero

Library Advantages And Disadvantages
Introduction
According to Metzger. M.C (2006), Academic Libraries continually adapt to the technological
advances and administrative challenges that follow . The staff plays an important role between the
information and the users. The staff being professional, or paraprofessional should possess the
knowledge of online databases, knowledge of all web features etc. Besides that, the systems may get
updated, replaced regularly and hence learning new or upgraded online resources must be an integral
part of every position in the library (Eells. L.L, Jaguszewski, J.M, 2008). I would like to take
Academic libraries as the Library setting.
There are many disadvantages that arise when the Librarians are not aware of the technical knowledge
in the academic libraries. In 1994, though there are computers, Librarians used to function without the
basic understanding of computers in the campuses. The presence of the internet on campus was not
supported by training programs or manuals. Along with the technological advancements, Library staff
came to know the importance of adapting themselves to technology. ... Show more content on

Tobacco, Alcohol And Tobacco Use And Its Effects On The...
The good, the bad and the ugly Certain drugs can take a heavy toll on the human body. The harmful
effects of the use of certain drugs are well documented throughout history. Use of these certain drugs
may cause horrible side effects. Drugs that could possibly cause horrible problems are tobacco,
alcohol and marijuana. The effects of tobacco, alcohol and marijuana on the body vary greatly each
with their own side effects.
Firstly, tobacco usage is highly dangerous for ones health. Cigarette smoking harms nearly every
organ of the body, causes many diseases, and reduces the health of smokers in general ( Health Effects
of Cigarette Smoking ). Tobacco when used releases a chemical called nicotine that raises blood
pressure, increases blood flow through the heart and temporarily provides a slight high feeling.
However, this comes with many dangers, as it is very harmful to the human body. Cigarette smoking
is the most common way to use tobacco. Cigarettes are very dangerous because tobacco smoke puts
many poisons into ones mouth, throat, and lungs as well as pollutes the air around the smoker making
it not just bad for the smoker but also everyone else that is around them. Smokers are at high risk for
heart disease, stroke, lung cancer and chronic bronchitis. According to the CDC, smoking tobacco
causes over 480,000 human deaths per year in the US alone. Other forms of consuming tobacco like
dipping are at a higher risk for developing mouth and throat cancer. Tobacco can

Therefore, it enhances the creativity of the employees themselves. In addition, according to competing

The characteristic of adhocracy organisation is they are trying to be the leader of the market.
Microsoft is indeed the leader for software market. Another thing is adhocracy organisation tends to

The Replacement And Fortification Of Micronutrients
The replacement and fortification of micronutrients in Milo, an iconic Kiwi drink, has gotten people
increasingly interested in the fortification of food products. The fortification of foods is when the
manufacturer or government has decided to add vitamins and micronutrients that humans benefit
from. This includes things such as iron, which helps you metabolize proteins for creating red blood
cells and haemoglobin, helping us stay alive. There are ongoing discussions and debates on this topic,
whether it is good or bad to fortify products. People who consume fortified foods are presumably
benefiting from these products rather than a pure source. Governments can mandate or make
fortification voluntary, but the manufacturers can do so if they feel they need to.

The Change Theory Of Nursing Model
Framework The Change Theory of Nursing Model will be used to facilitate change in the unit because
it will drive the patient in a desired direction (Nursing Theory, 2016). The model, developed by Kurt
Lewin, uses three stages of change. Before change can be implemented the agent goes through
unfreezing, experiencing the change, and refreezing (Nursing Theory, 2016). Unfreezing This phase
involves focusing on the staff s mindfulness for the necessity of change based on the evidence
collected by an infection control committee. This phase is necessary to overcome the tensions of
individual resistance and group compliance (Nursing Theory, 2016). Using three methods is how this
phase is achieved. First, redirecting the behavior away from the existing situation. Second, reducing
the restricting forces that have a negative affect on the movement. Lastly, using a combination of the
two methods mentioned above. Experiencing the Change This stage is where the staff will be required
to view the education power point on the new CAUTI prevention tool. The staff will then take a post
education competency test to demonstrate proficiency of the risks and complications of CAUTIs as
well as the prevention tool. Nurses are encouraged to assess the need to continue the Foley each shift
and offer patients an urinal, commode, or bedpan when needed. When indications are no longer met,
the RN is to call the doctor for Foley removal. Refreezing This is where establishing the change

Reflection Of Leadership And Leadership In The Honors College
Throughout this semester, I learned so much and gained so much confidence in my ability to lead. I
had never led through the Honors College before this semester nor had I ever felt so involved and
included within the Honors College. Being an Honors Year One mentor has allowed me to grow in
ways that I would have never grown if it was not for this experience. Through my experience, I have
made friends, realized what all the Honors College has to offer and connect freshmen with others. I
learned how I lead best, how to not always be the leader, what my strengths are and how to use them
to their full potential, and what needs to happen differently next semester in hopes to improve the
experience for the freshmen.
I thought our mentor class was absolutely phenomenal. Tiffany continuously led us well and reigned
us in well when we needed to get down to business. Her leadership, council, and example made a
difference for me when leading my freshmen. She was also very encouraging, which was much
needed. At the beginning, I was intimidated by Rebecca being in our class each week. However, the
intimidation faded, and I quickly learned to appreciate her. She had many great suggestions as well as
a great insight. I may be an extrovert, but on the first day of our mentor class, I was very intimidated
and nervous. I had no earthly idea what to expect. However, as it is now the end of the semester, I am
honestly sad the class had to come to an end. I learned so much from the other

Karl Marx And Max Weber
Karl Marx and Max Weber were influential sociologists that paved the way for modern sociological
school of thought. Both, Karl Marx and Max Weber contributed a lot to the study and foundation of
sociology. Without their contributions sociology would not be as prominent as it is today. From the
contribution of how sociology should be studied, to how they applied their theories to everyday life
has influenced many sociologists. Predominantly, both of these theorists discussed the effects of
capitalism, how it has developed, shaped and changed society into what it is today. Specifically, Karl
Marx s contribution of the bourgeoisie vs. the proletariat class and Max Weber s social stratification
has helped individuals to understand how modern day society has transformed into what it is today.
Particularly, this paper will lie out Weber s theory of social stratification and Marx s theory of the
bourgeoisie vs. the proletariat class; additionally this essay will also compare and contrast the ideas of
these two influential sociologists. Finally this essay will criticize both of these sociologists theories
and display that Marx and Weber do not explain how modern day society and classes have been
formed. Before discussing Marx and Weber s theories we must look at their upbringing and who has
influenced their works. Karl Marx was born in West Germany in a small business city called Trier, in
1818 (Karl Marx, Intro. to Part III, Pg.135). Karl Marx was the son of a rich family and

Is It Ethical To Commit Suicide
Is it ethical to commit suicide? If you re having a bad time and you think you will not be able to get

Social Class Analysis
When trying to establish ones self in society we are typically concerned with what kind of social class
or rank we fall into. In society, people attempt to define themselves according to specific social class
by what kind of things they own or how they may act. The theory of conspicuous consumption coined
by the Norwegian American economist and sociologist Thorstein Veblen can help realize a further
understanding in social classes and how they influence people. In essence, the overall goal of
conspicuous consumption is to demonstrate superiority over some other group of people or social
class. Typically when someone is referred to as a redneck it is not exactly a good thing. When
classifying someone under a certain class status we usually consider the things they buy/own, where
they live, how they act, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However even though it can have a great influence, economic status does not solely define someone s
social class. In order to maintain a certain social class one must adhere to a set of standards set by

meet the social class qualifications that the author believes he and the rest of the people that live in the

negative effect on the appearance of his home but just rather does the end result of the project do what
it is supposed to do. Though for the author appearance is just as important as functionality as well.

some fundamental conditions must be present. The client must be anxious or incongruent and in
contact with the therapist. Therapists must be genuine, whereby their words, nonverbal mannerisms
and feelings are not to be contradicting. In addition, they must also accept the client and show
unconditional care towards them. The therapist must understand the client s thoughts, the ideas,
experiences, and feelings, when communicating back this empathic understanding
(Murdock, 2009).
Firstly, congruence (genuineness or realness) refers to the therapist s openness, genuineness and the
willingness to relate to clients without hiding behind a professional front.
Therapists who conduct sessions with this sincerity in mind have all their feelings available to them in
therapy sessions and may share significant emotional reactions with their clients.
However, congruence does not mean that therapists shift the focus of therapy to themselves in any
way or have a predetermined direction, or impose a professional agenda to their clients during
sessions. [Corey, 2005]

Atomic Mysteries Essay
Nuclear technology: a mysterious frontier in scientific advancement that has enraptured spectators
worldwide. As the influence of nuclear technology expanded, nations implemented policies to address
its usage. The Atoms for Peace program contributed significantly to the conception of these policies.
This program s inception represented a turning point in international cooperation. From Atoms for
Peace arose the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the spread of nuclear energy, the
technology s risky dual use, and the rise of conflicts over Iran s highly controversial nuclear program.
The effects of the Atoms for Peace program play roles even in international affairs of the present.

Thus Atoms for Peace introduced a new era of nuclear cooperation. For the sake of this new
cooperation, governments were encouraged in Eisenhower s speech to make...contributions...to an
international atomic energy agency to promote peace. The IAEA was established as a transnational
nuclear management system that would regulate the secure distribution of nuclear materials (Lavoy).
This United Nations affiliated agency has evolved into an organization with defined responsibilities
and powers to address this end while continuing to maintain its original objective of solidifying
worldwide collaboration. Today the IAEA primarily promotes nuclear technologies as valuable energy
opportunities that must be used properly and, most importantly, safely. The agency delineates nuclear
safety standards in order to shield both humans and the environment from the dangers of nuclear
energy exploitation. The IAEA ensures that states can access nuclear energy assistance.
Simultaneously, it inspects various nuclear programs to ensure that all nations fulfill their promise of
peace (Division). In this way the creation of the IAEA represents major progress toward nonviolent
nuclear usage. As a result of the IAEA s implementations, both nuclear energy and its controversies
has disseminated rapidly over only a few decades to many states. The United States declassified

Band Performance Review
It was the night that I went to see and support my friend s middle school band performance. I
remember watching and hearing the sounds of certain instruments and being instantly drawn to them.
At the very moment I knew that music was something I wanted to learn and study all through life.
There was something beautiful about the way each individual instrument sounded, and the abilities
that each musician had to make their instruments sound a certain way. The next year I signed up for
my school s band classes and began to learn and study about music and music theory. The one thing
about music though that really captures my interest is the fact that it can provoke and produce so many

Five , each section sounded amazing and were able to tell a story. Or how in other performances
sometimes two musicians would solo together, and it would appear as if they were having a
conversation without any words. I would often watch how relaxed and poised they were and try to
copy that demeanor when having to give solos in front of the class. Also by watching professionals
perform, I could see the true difference between me and them, and how much work I needed to put
into my playing to maybe one day move my fingers and rearrange my embouchure in order to play

The Liberation Of The Heart By Raymond Carver
Blindness does not merely limit itself to the eyes: it can plague the most profound depths of the heart
as well. When a man closes off one of the most vital veins to his heart, compassion, he too can find
himself lost in the bleak and somber tundra of mere existence. The liberation of the heart is a
liberation which some cannot easily attain. In many instances, the heart may require an influence or
spark that revives the compassion that is lacking. In Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the author takes this
notion of intervention and demonstrates it through the tale of a vulgar and callous man who seems to
lack even the slightest amount of compassion for anyone. The man appears to have no friends, no
direction in life, and he most certainly has no filter. These claims become apparent throughout the
beginning of the story and towards the middle when the man speaks of an expected visitor, Robert, his
wife s old friend who happens to be blind, and brutally launches his narrow minded prejudices
towards the old man. The story presents an ironic twist as the reader begins to realize that despite the
blind man s disability, he appears to have a far greater sense of vision than the narrator and is even
somewhat successful in kindling a newly found compassion within the heart of the narrator.
One would believe that a man with sight would find it less tasking to communicate and connect with
those around him than one without sight, but in this particular story the reader discovers that

participating in class, dating and attending parties. Physical symptoms of social anxiety disorder may
include blushing, profuse sweating, trembling, nausea, rapid heartbeat, and shortness of breath,
dizziness or lightheadedness, headaches and feeling of detachment and loss of self control.

Alice Walker usually puts herself into characters that she writes about in her stories. However, you
don t understand this unless you know about her. Staring with this let us find out about who she is and
where she came from. When recounting the life of Alice Walker, you find out that she was born to
sharecroppers in Eatonton, Georgia in 1944 and was the baby of eight children. She lost one of her
eyes when her brother shot her with a BB gun by accident. She was valedictorian of her class in high
school and with that and receiving a scholarship; she went to Spelman, a college for black women, in
Atlanta. She then transferred to Sarah Lawrence College in New York and during her time there went

While Dee is gone Maggie and Mother are doing whatever needs to be done around the house, to
survive. Dee would write every now and again, and told her Mother, no matter where she, the Mother,
lived, she would always come and see her, but she wouldn t bring any friends. Upon Dee s visit, she
arrives with a man that greets everyone, Asalamalakim, upon exiting the vehicle. Mother confuses this
with his name and is very unsuccessful in trying to pronounce it. She is told to call him Hakim a
Barber. Her daughter Dee also tells her mother that she has changed her name and it is now, Wangero
Leewanika Kemanjo. This name, Wangero, has a personal meaning to Alice Walker in the fact that
while on her trip as an exchange student in Africa, the name Wangero is the name that was given to
her while she was there.
Moving to the trivial meaning of the short story, we later find Dee along with her mother, sister and
Hakim, at the dinner table, having, none the less, pork. Hakim had stated that he did not eat pork and
collards, yet Dee is more than happy to help herself to everything that is available. While sitting at
dinner, she sees the churn that is in the corner and states that she wants to take the top home and make
it a center piece as well as she wants the dasher as well, the wooden rod used to make butter. She can
do something fancy with it as well. She continues after dinner going through the house searching

HC Brakes
Ryan faced several barriers for any meaningful change to happen. He was unable to implement TQM
into VC Brakes because of the organization structure (unresponsive management finger pointing
culture). Ryan was unable to break the divider between management and lower level employees to
make progress with TQM. Management often ignored employees, for example, the floor workers
knew what they needed but management refused to listen and stood in the way of these needs
(Cespedes, 2013). There was a lack of good leadership to lead change and a sense of urgency.
One of the strongest drivers of change at VC Brakes was Ryan s dedication for change leadership.

Examples Of Otherness In To Kill A Mockingbird
The world is created out of oppositions, divisions and separations between the one and the Other.
When people collide or meet, in that sense, in the meeting between different cultural backgrounds they
tend to define the others by defining themselves. Jacque Derrida puts it in his essay Archive Fever:
Freudian Impressions every Other is every other Other, is altogether Other (p.77). Alternatively, as
Harper lee sets it clearly in her novel To Kill a Mockingbird you never really understand a person until
you consider things from his point of view ... until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in It
(p.32)
It is always relevant to analyse how the One describes, and in that way defines the Other. The
definition of this Concept is related to the definition of the One. The question of the other in general
has been a controversial topic throughout the years in different fields: anthropology, sociology, history
and literature. It is associated with the time of the Civil Rights Movement in which significant and
well known critical studies, including Claudia Durst Johnson, Michelle Foucault, Carter Cranny
Francis, Paul Brown, Deborah Willis, were done. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Based on my week, I spend the bulk of my time on school associated activities. This was not a
surprise to me, what I was surprised by was the small amounts of time that I devote to my religion.
Although I attend seminary, read my scriptures, and pray everyday, the accumulative time of all on
these activities adds to just over an hour a day. I am quite aware of how I spend my time, it is very
unusual for me to lay around and waste time of useless tasks.
2. Based on my week, I can only largely identify two main values from exercise #1: knowledge and
service. This makes sense because I spend 32 hours sitting in class a week. This doesn t include time
spent on homework or other corresponding activities. Something that did not make too large of an
appearance was my spirituality. I will admit that my scripture studies and other related activities were
extremely diminished this week. But it is to be expected that my religion isn t quite as evident within
my daily schedule because it isn t practical to spend over 4 hours a day reading scriptures, there
simply isn t enough time. True spirituality is seen through more subtle actions than in extravagant
activities that draw large amounts of attention. With this considered, I do still need to increase the

NFL with Mild Congnitive Impairment
NFL with MCI
In the article, NFL Football Players May Be More Susceptible to Alzheimer s and Dementia, the
clinical professor Christopher Randolph makes a scientific study to whether or not former professional
football players are prone to head trauma related diseases such as MCI and Alzheimer s. This study
can be proved to be valid, because the author states his theory through clinical studies comparing
different groups of people with and without a former history in a professional sport.
The main idea of this article is to determine whether NFL football players are subjects to have more
head trauma related diseases later on in life such as MCI and Alzheimer s. The purpose of this
experiment is to prove this theory to be true. Christopher Randolph executed this study by comparing
the neuropsychological test results from two groups of without a history in participating professional
sport (1) 41 demographically similar adults with no cognitive changes and (2) a clinical sample of 81
people diagnosed with MCI (Randolph). After all the testing and surveys, the results were clear;
professional athletes are more likely to have a form of MCI or Alzheimer s when they get older.
The author of this article exhibited a scientific study by analyzing the likelihood of an American
professional football player being diagnosed with a certain degree of a head trauma compared to the
general population. By accomplishing this experiment the author views his theory to be true, through

Alka-Seltzer
After adding distilled water, alka seltzer began bubbling extensively, as the two substances react and
form CO2(g) and a buffer. Sodium bicarbonate also bubbled mildly, as it reacts with water to form
carbonic acid, which then breaks into CO2(g).
Aspirin, Alka seltzer, and Tylenol showed up acidic from the Universal indicator, whereas sodium
bicarbonate and the unknown were blue and basic. This is because sodium is a non reactive ion, as it is
part of NaOH, a strong base, where as bicarbonate attaches to H+ ions to form carbonic acid, thus
increasing OH concentration and pH. On the other hand, Aspirin, or acetylsalicylic acid, forms
salicylic acid and acetic acid, lowering pH. Alka seltzer also showed up as acidic because it contains
aspirin. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first part, there may have been cross contamination of materials, especially since periods before
us had already performed the experiment. During chromatography, our spot sizes were initially very
varied, as we didn t know exactly how much of each substance to place when we began. Thus, the
substances in more abundance would have greater opportunity to travel up with the eluent, skewing
the results. In the beginning, we even put 6 7 drops, causing some of the substances to mix together.
Touching the TLC plate may also have disrupted some of the substances traveling up.
Improvements and Adjustments
If we were to repeat this lab, we would make sure to ensure the equipment was clean and the
substances were not contaminated before proceeding. For chromatography, we would only put one
drop from the micro pipettes onto the TLC plate, instead of the 6 we started out with initially. This
would allow the substances to stay separate, and our results would be more accurate. We may also
have touched the TLC plate during the experiment, so we would be more careful to only touch the
edges of the plate.

Women During The Medieval Era Essay
Women withstood a multitude of limitations in the medieval era. Due to the political, social, and
religious restrictions women encountered, historians neglected to realize that they demonstrated
agency. The female experience is something that has been overlooked until recently. Unfortunately,
without the knowledge of how women found ways to exert their power, we are experiencing a deficit
of knowledge in this period. Through the close examination of the primary sources: The Gospel of
Mary, Dhouda s Liber Manualis, and Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the creative means of female force
are displayed.
In the Gospel of Mary, circa 120 180 AD, Mary Magdalene displays that women exercised agency by
being a vessel of God and finding favor with the Lord. Beginning in the first paragraph of the work, it
states, Andrew and Peter question her veracity and ask why a woman should become a favorite
disciple (The Gospel of Mary 53). This demonstrates that men did not understand why a woman
would be seen as a greater or more trustworthy being themselves as Christ s inoculator. However,
Mary remains humble, and she uses her agency to teach the men. Mary shows her willingness to
enlighten the men when it is stated, Mary answered, What s concealed from you I ll tell; I saw him in
a vision and I told him (The Gospel of Mary 57). This demonstrates Mary s power over the males. In
this situation, she holds knowledge that only she can give to them. This allows for her to become the
individual in

How Has The American Dream Changed
Life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone with opportunity for each according to ability
or achievement. This a quote by James Truslow Adams written in his book The Epic America
describing what the American Dream was in 1931 when the book was written. In this quote he is
emphasizing that the American Dream doesn t represent a quest for wealth but rather a vision for
personal fulfillment. Over the course of the years the American Dream has changed in ways which we

Just how much has the American Dream changed? Well let s go back to where it first originated.
Dating back to the 1800 s people began finding gold in the state of California. This started an uproar

Two very important human resource strategies are the traditional job analysis and competency
modelling. But which strategy is the better? It may be problematic to compare the traditional job

John Dewey s Theory Of Progressive Education
John Dewey (1859 1950), was born in Burlington, Vermont, on October 20, 1859. He attended the
University of Vermont and graduated with his bachelor s degree in 1879 and received his Ph.D. from
Johns Hopkins University. His research work is associated with the school of thought functionalism .
His revolutionary approaches to schooling were fundamental to modern schooling today. Dewey is
one of the most American influential philosophers and educational thinkers, but he is not a
psychologist. Nevertheless, Dewey has many contributions in the field of psychology. He played a
role in influencing many psychologists from Allport to Vygotsky.
Dewey theory of progressive education is essentially a view of education that emphasizes the need to
learn by doing, this puts him in the educational philosophy of pragmatism which believes that reality
must be experienced. He believed that child s life experience should build so that the students must
interact with their environment to adapt and learn. He called for child centered approach and inquiry
based learning to education which emphasis learning in the needs and interests of the child. He
believed that students needs to love what they learn, and need students to develop their own goals and
their own interest, which is the importance of students engagement in learning nowadays.

Reflection Of The Double Helix
The Double Helix, written by James D. Watson, is an autobiographical portrayal of the race to
discover the molecular structure DNA. The characters throughout the book consist of Francis Crick,
Maurice Wilkins, Linus Pauling, Peter Pauling, Rosalind Franklin, and Erwin Chargaff. Crick was
Watson s partner in the discovery of DNA. Maurice Wilkins worked at King s College in London and
made Watson s interest in DNA more prominent. Linus Pauling was a chemist at Caltech in California
and was intensely close to beating Watson and Crick to the figuring out the structure of DNA.
Rosalind Franklin worked under Maurice Wilkins at King s College faced gender bias as a woman. Sir
Lawrence Bragg was the Director of the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge and the superior of Crick
and Watson. Erwin Chargaff at Columbia University was the scientist who discovered the rules in the
bonding of base pairs. Lastly, Peter Pauling gave Watson and Crick their last piece of evidence to
identify the double helix. The story was narrated by James Watson, who earned his PhD in Zoology at
Harvard.
The book began by Watson explaining his co workers by giving his experiences with them. He
explains how he himself ended up at the Cavendish Lab in Cambridge and met Francis. Watson is only
interested in studying things he finds fascinating, with little to no education or interest in mathematics
or chemistry, and he refuses to do so. After attending a lecture by Maurice Wilkins, Watson becomes

The Planned Parenthood Debate
The U.S. Senate blocked a bill to defund Planned Parenthood and channel federal dollars to other
health care providers and community health centers that do not perform abortions on Monday.
The bill calling for defunding of Planned Parenthood was introduced by Freshman Senator Joni Ernst,
R Iowa, who ran an anti abortion campaign last year.
The American taxpayer should not be asked to fund an organization like Planned Parenthood that has
shown a sheer disdain for human dignity and complete disregard for women and their babies, she said
on Monday in a floor speech.
The vote on the bill was 53 46, 7 votes short of the 60 votes required to proceed and for debate to open
on the bill. The votes fell mostly along party lines.
Planned Parenthood provides health care services besides abortion like cervical cancer screenings,
contraception, testing for sexually transmitted diseases, and birth control counseling to approximately
2.7 million women a year at over 700 affiliated health centers across the country. It receives more than

Articles Of Confederation Rhetorical Analysis
One of the most important documents written in American history, the Articles of Confederation, was
crucial to the foundation of American principles. However, there were many inherent flaws in its
making, which were addressed by a few different leaders. The Articles of Confederation paved the
way towards a successful country, but some of the problems would have sent the country backwards.
One of these problems was that for an amendment to be made to the Articles, every state would have
to agree, and Rhode Island never sent delegates to conventions to discuss these amendments. This
meant that there could never be flexibility in the amendments even when necessary. This dilemma
forced many elites of America to come together and completely rewrite ... Show more content on

10 was one of the main factors that allowed for the ratification of the modern constitution and
government system. Idealistically, Madison s ideas about government are possibly the best possible
solution to the conflict of factions, yet in reality, Federalist No. 10 has been manipulated in ways that
separate people more than unite them. While Madison is probably right in that republicanism is better
than simply a popular democracy, his writing essentially did nothing but flip the party in power.
Before, the power was held by the majority common people, which was bad because only their
interests were being addressed, but after Madison wrote Federalist No. 10, the elite group was the
group from which delegates were being elected. Madison was one of the property owners, and he
feared that the common sort would prevent him from remaining in power so he had to switch the way
the system worked. Through his rhetorical analysis he convinced the people that electing delegates
was the way to go, and in the end only the members of the elite group were elected. He wanted a
government that protected the rights of the rich property owners from the common sort and he was
successful in doing so. He says a rage for paper money will hinder the abilities of those elected and
therefore should not be. This prevented anyone who was poor from being elected. Now, Madison also
makes the assumption that the people elected will somehow throw

These have created fears in people and led to difficulties on gaining confidence to obtain dental care.
Moreover, the human mind is much related to stimuli and responses based on the causes of the stimuli.
Relating these to the experiment of Pavlov on the dogs and constant stimuli occasioned by the sound
of a bell that indicated a time for food, one discovers the relationship of the thought of a visit to the
dentist to the effect or the pain of it. (Coon, p.261). The conditioning of the mind to fear as a result of
a visit to the dentist would result into a fear. Smell of the hospital accompanied by the sound of the
machines used during the operation yield into fears for a number of patients. The common smell of
drugs in the hospital causes fears in many people that make them fear the whole procedure. A sound
produced by two equipments or machines used raise fear levels in some people.
In dealing with these fears, there is need to coordinate the causes with a professional approach to
handling them based on those identified in each patient. These are part of the professional obligations
of the dentists (Ozar Sokol, p.15). Cause of fear differs from one patient to another, as well as the
solution to it. These majorly deal with the alleviation of the fear. The fear normally grows further if
the patient uses a dentist they may not

Welfare Policy Analysis
The welfare policy is one mirrored by ideology and negativity, with few satisfied with its current
status. The conservatives think of it as some kind of culture of poverty, personal choice (Furlong,
2013, p. 328) that is riddled with fraud and waste. While the liberals, site welfare as a state of unequal
opportunities caused by unfair economics or less than ideal social conditions beyond their control
(Furlong, 2013, p. 328). The conservative see the failures and the liberals see the need to expand on
possibly successes. Both sides share the necessity of reform equivalently. However, coming from
these extreme perspectives the solutions remained far apart. The cost of welfare is extremely high and
effects a great portion of the population. The measure effectiveness, efficiency and equity will be hard
to measure and give flexibility to both side to find a plausible argument to meet their point of view.

Some past reforms showed some promise and can be adjusted to today. For example, President
Clinton s Personal Responsibility Work Opportunities Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA),
contained limitations and work requirements (Furlong, 2013, p. 345) and some success. Building on
this, enforcement of the policy and allowing partial welfare, as the work income level adjusted to a set
threshold (Dorgan, 2003) would gain further success. If the job was less than the benefits, it only
enhances the stagnation because it is beneficial to not work at some points. Improving daycare
availability and addressing societal causes would greatly decrease the dependency of welfare (Dorgan,
2003). Properly funding these reforms would be a key to the success of reforming welfare. Robert

The system will become an action tool to help lead the organization toward transforming and
redesigning the health care within the community.
Human resources planning and allocation are critical links between the human resources strategy plan
and the organizational business plan. Assessing the future needs will require information about current
employee levels and their skills, along with projections of patient needs. Another requirement are
analytical tools for asking the what if questions when exploring alternative service strategies.
The health care organization will utilize the computerization within its function to experience a
number of strategic advantages. The three advantages are;
• HRIS enables the hospital s human resource department to make a more active role in
organizational planning. Computerization will make forecasting more timely, cost effective, and
efficient.
• Integration and storage in a single database all of the human resources information
• HRIS will accelerate the process of comparing costs and benefits of human resources activities.
The need for analysis, collection and management of human resources information has outpaced the
development of human resources information systems in many health care organizations.

  • 2. The Life Of President Lincoln Ben Garner Mr.Tapie Social Studies Period 7 21 May 2015 The Life of President Lincoln President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, is often spoke of in a serious manner, being that during his presidency a civil war took place, slaves were freed, a president openly wanted blacks and women to have rights, and many other things that seem utterly ridiculous, for the time period in which they took place. However, there is another side of Lincoln that is rarely focused on, who Lincoln was as a person. His personality, his life. This is the story of Abraham (No middle name) Lincoln. To begin, some background knowledge and information about Lincoln should be discussed. First, Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in rural Kentucky. Now, some interesting facts about Lincoln, he battled depression most of his life, Lincoln although never really stated what he identified as, it was believed that he was an agnostic or at most a deist, but did not identify to any particular religion, and he did not drink, chew tobacco, or smoke. To begin Lincoln s early life, he had a poor relationship with his father after his mother died. He believed his father lacked ambition and regarded him as anti intellectual. His father represented the things Lincoln wanted to get away from. In spring of 1831 Lincoln left his parents (father and stepmother) to try to make a life for himself. He was a popular young man, a likeable person in general; in his young age Lincoln ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Trust And Distrity And Integrityrity In The United States... Trust and integrity are the fundamental foundations of the United States Army; all new recruits learn the Army Values, the Warrior Ethos, and the Soldier s Creed starting on their first day. Even with this strong foundation, the Army has some weaknesses in its integrity that need improvement; two areas that require improvement are untruthful reporting and fraternization. There are also successful implementation of programs to improve the trust and integrity; the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program is one of them. Soldiers have become comfortable with fudging the truth and not telling the whole story. One of the biggest and most common ways that the Army is untruthful is by incorrectly reporting information and statistics to higher authority. One of the first instances of dishonesty a Soldier sees in the United States Army is pencil whipping 350 1 training. At my first duty station, I was inprocessing my unit. While filling out documents, the training non commissioned officer (NCO) came up to me and handed a sign in sheet on a clipboard to me. She then explained the company completed some training earlier that day and I needed to sign the sheet. I was appalled and I did not sign into the training since I did not complete it. Unfortunately, the integrity that I showed by not signing the sheet, did not last very long. I quickly learned that there was never enough time for all of the training the Army expected its Soldiers to complete. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Research Paper On Iroquois Tribes The Iroquois people consisted of many different tribes rather than one big group. These groups included the Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, Mohawk, Cayuga and the Tuscarora. The Iroquois have occupied the Eastern Woodlands for over 4,000 years. The Iroquois tribes first settled in the Eastern Woodlands located in the Eastern United States. This area had thick forests, rivers, hills, and mountains. One thing the Iroquois were best known for were their longhouses. These longhouses were estimated to be longer than the length of an entire football field. Inside of the longhouse, there is an aisle in the middle and living space on either side. The longhouses were matrilineal, so when a marriage occurred, the family would move into the longhouse of the mother. The Iroquois usually lived in clans, or groups of families. ... These three crops could also be known as the three sisters. They could be mixed together to create a vegetable dish called succotash. The Iroquois people also picked lots of blueberries, strawberries, and cranberries. Tools were created for farming, such as the wooden rake used to level the soil, and a wooden spade to dig the soil. After food was dried, it would be placed into clay pots that were lined with bark to keep mice out. In the fall, men usually hunted for animals like elk, bears, deer and wolves. • 8. Patriotism And Patriotism In World War I Patriotism in World War I The First World War, a conflict between the Allied Powers and the Central Powers, began in 1914. The United States did not join the Allied Powers until 1917. The popular music during the mid 1910s displays the patriotism and nationalism shown by the American people during the time the United States joined the war. The United States was attempting to stay out of the war because they wanted to remain neutral and to maintain proper relations with foreign countries, but nonetheless, they joined because tensions with Germany were increasing and the Zimmerman Telegram was sent which suggests the idea of Germany becoming allies with Mexico. This was the starting point of patriotism in the United States because once the people saw war as inevitable, they began to feel confidence in the capabilities of their country, (Royde Smith). Pieces of sheet music from this time period include The Fight Is On. Song, by J.R. Shannon and Carl D. Vandersloot; America Today (Don t Worry Uncle Sam s Alright), by Herbert Moore and W.R. Williams; and When Woodrow Wilson Takes A Hand, by S.E. Cox. These pieces are the beginnings of the contemporary American belief that the United States is superior to all opposing powers. The sheet music of wartime, therefore, reflects the attitudes of the American people throughout this period. The 1918 song, The Fight Is On. Song, by J.R. Shannon and Carl D. Vandersloot builds on the emotions of the United States entering into World War I. The cover of the sheet music depicts a soldier fighting for the Allied Powers, storming into a trench of the Central Powers to attack. The broader scene shown is on a battlefield, and the background portrays the chaos of war. Above the mayhem shown in this picture is a true symbol of patriotism: the waving American flag. The song s lyrics target patriotic, pro war Americans. The denotative meaning of the lyrics is that the United States is going to fight in the first World War. They are going to bring all of their power and strength to the battle and not stop until the war is over. The lyrics make several claims that the United States is fighting for their freedom. This is made clear when the song says, For we are knowing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. An Analysis Of Rick Moody s Boys Each story makes use of a very unique tone and form of narration yet these same qualities can be compared to some extent across these essays. The authors utilize different forms of writing to convey their intended focus to the audience. I found each story relative to one another in that they all seemed to touch of the subject of the roles of different genders in our contemporary society maybe even across different cultures. Rick Moody s short story Boys is written with a distinct style. The author uses a form of a stream of consciousness to convey the purpose at hand, which encompasses writing as if without hesitation or editing whatever came to Moody s thoughts, he transferred to text. There was also a substantial use of the word boys , placing emphasis on the central meaning of the story. The style is thoroughly descriptive and fails to leave any details of the boys lives out. This quality donates a sense of reality and creates a bond between the reader and the characters. The tone of the story comes of as particularly unbiased and serious, as if the author were just stating purely factual information. As events become more somber in the boys lives, the author approaches a more sympathetic tone. The boys were supposed to be kids, fooling around playing games and living a care free childhood, but these boys found themselves in scenarios no boy or child should ever encompass. In the story Boys by Rick Moody from the book Literature To Go, The narrator writes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Internal Conflict In Macbeth Conflict happens when two or more people have an disagreement on same topic, or when people clash in relationship. Warfare is presented as gruesome, unspeakable of hatred and sickening dream, warfare is often portrayed as bloody and troublesome in literature, because many of the battles involves violence and death. Hero in many occasions are presented as abnormal, who is very talented, who is capable to safe people, nevertheless when it comes to failure, the hero is just like an ordinary human, Shakespeare played and twisted the role of hero, using the character Macbeth. The play Macbeth and pro also con poems about the war, made me determine that conflict involves physical strength in fighting, but also serious internal breakdown in emotions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point, Macbeth appears to the audience, that he is suffering from inner conflict, we can see this, because Shakespeare presents his indicate messed up feelings, and his over running lines in the play. Shakespeare has Macbeth present as cowardice human in this scene, compared to before, because from this scene Macbeth is expressing all his worries and his fear of the consequences after the murder of Duncan. The impression of Macbeth to the audience has rapidly changed from loyal gallant, brave and trustworthy after the greed of ambition ,to become king, to a man that has lost his way, that doesn t know how to continue on wards. Macbeth stating, we still have judgement here, that we but teach/bloody instructions which being taught return/ to plague the inventor within the soliloquy it s showing how concerned and nervous he is, Macbeth s speech is symbolizing his nerves, and his hear rate within that long enjambment speech, because clearly it s showing us the lines from the speech is running over each other. The word judgement suggest it s another word for god, this shows Macbeth is frightened about god judging on him in afterlife, because he knows if he kills the king, he is going against god, because the king has the divine right, that is given by god, this connotes in the Jacobean period, people believed a lot in god, for considering decision before doing it, linking with god. This is why Macbeth is so worried, he is scared, that he may go to hell, because of his ambition to become king, for he who didn t have the divine right. • 11. Library Advantages And Disadvantages Introduction According to Metzger. M.C (2006), Academic Libraries continually adapt to the technological advances and administrative challenges that follow . The staff plays an important role between the information and the users. The staff being professional, or paraprofessional should possess the knowledge of online databases, knowledge of all web features etc. Besides that, the systems may get updated, replaced regularly and hence learning new or upgraded online resources must be an integral part of every position in the library (Eells. There are many disadvantages that arise when the Librarians are not aware of the technical knowledge in the academic libraries. The Replacement And Fortification Of Micronutrients The replacement and fortification of micronutrients in Milo, an iconic Kiwi drink, has gotten people increasingly interested in the fortification of food products. The fortification of foods is when the manufacturer or government has decided to add vitamins and micronutrients that humans benefit from. The Change Theory Of Nursing Model Framework The Change Theory of Nursing Model will be used to facilitate change in the unit because it will drive the patient in a desired direction (Nursing Theory, 2016). The model, developed by Kurt Lewin, uses three stages of change. Before change can be implemented the agent goes through unfreezing, experiencing the change, and refreezing (Nursing Theory, 2016). Unfreezing This phase involves focusing on the staff s mindfulness for the necessity of change based on the evidence collected by an infection control committee. This phase is necessary to overcome the tensions of individual resistance and group compliance (Nursing Theory, 2016). Using three methods is how this phase is achieved. First, redirecting the behavior away from the existing situation. Second, reducing the restricting forces that have a negative affect on the movement. Lastly, using a combination of the two methods mentioned above. Experiencing the Change This stage is where the staff will be required to view the education power point on the new CAUTI prevention tool. Both, Karl Marx and Max Weber contributed a lot to the study and foundation of sociology. Without their contributions sociology would not be as prominent as it is today. From the contribution of how sociology should be studied, to how they applied their theories to everyday life has influenced many sociologists. Predominantly, both of these theorists discussed the effects of capitalism, how it has developed, shaped and changed society into what it is today. Specifically, Karl Marx s contribution of the bourgeoisie vs. the proletariat class and Max Weber s social stratification has helped individuals to understand how modern day society has transformed into what it is today. Particularly, this paper will lie out Weber s theory of social stratification and Marx s theory of the bourgeoisie vs. the proletariat class; additionally this essay will also compare and contrast the ideas of these two influential sociologists. Finally this essay will criticize both of these sociologists theories and display that Marx and Weber do not explain how modern day society and classes have been formed. • 25. The Liberation Of The Heart By Raymond Carver Blindness does not merely limit itself to the eyes: it can plague the most profound depths of the heart as well. When a man closes off one of the most vital veins to his heart, compassion, he too can find himself lost in the bleak and somber tundra of mere existence. The liberation of the heart is a liberation which some cannot easily attain. In many instances, the heart may require an influence or spark that revives the compassion that is lacking. In Raymond Carver s Cathedral, the author takes this notion of intervention and demonstrates it through the tale of a vulgar and callous man who seems to lack even the slightest amount of compassion for anyone. The man appears to have no friends, no direction in life, and he most certainly has no filter. These claims become apparent throughout the beginning of the story and towards the middle when the man speaks of an expected visitor, Robert, his wife s old friend who happens to be blind, and brutally launches his narrow minded prejudices towards the old man. The story presents an ironic twist as the reader begins to realize that despite the blind man s disability, he appears to have a far greater sense of vision than the narrator and is even somewhat successful in kindling a newly found compassion within the heart of the narrator. One would believe that a man with sight would find it less tasking to communicate and connect with those around him than one without sight, but in this particular story the reader discovers that ... Due to the political, social, and religious restrictions women encountered, historians neglected to realize that they demonstrated agency. The female experience is something that has been overlooked until recently. Unfortunately, without the knowledge of how women found ways to exert their power, we are experiencing a deficit of knowledge in this period. Through the close examination of the primary sources: The Gospel of Mary, Dhouda s Liber Manualis, and Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the creative means of female force are displayed. In the Gospel of Mary, circa 120 180 AD, Mary Magdalene displays that women exercised agency by being a vessel of God and finding favor with the Lord. Beginning in the first paragraph of the work, it states, Andrew and Peter question her veracity and ask why a woman should become a favorite disciple (The Gospel of Mary 53). This demonstrates that men did not understand why a woman would be seen as a greater or more trustworthy being themselves as Christ s inoculator. However, Mary remains humble, and she uses her agency to teach the men. Mary shows her willingness to enlighten the men when it is stated, Mary answered, What s concealed from you I ll tell; I saw him in a vision and I told him (The Gospel of Mary 57). Articles Of Confederation Rhetorical Analysis One of the most important documents written in American history, the Articles of Confederation, was crucial to the foundation of American principles. However, there were many inherent flaws in its making, which were addressed by a few different leaders. The Articles of Confederation paved the way towards a successful country, but some of the problems would have sent the country backwards. One of these problems was that for an amendment to be made to the Articles, every state would have to agree, and Rhode Island never sent delegates to conventions to discuss these amendments. This meant that there could never be flexibility in the amendments even when necessary. This dilemma forced many elites of America to come together and completely rewrite ... Idealistically, Madison s ideas about government are possibly the best possible solution to the conflict of factions, yet in reality, Federalist No. 10 has been manipulated in ways that separate people more than unite them. While Madison is probably right in that republicanism is better than simply a popular democracy, his writing essentially did nothing but flip the party in power. Before, the power was held by the majority common people, which was bad because only their interests were being addressed, but after Madison wrote Federalist No. 10, the elite group was the group from which delegates were being elected. Madison was one of the property owners, and he feared that the common sort would prevent him from remaining in power so he had to switch the way the system worked. Through his rhetorical analysis he convinced the people that electing delegates was the way to go, and in the end only the members of the elite group were elected. He wanted a government that protected the rights of the rich property owners from the common sort and he was successful in doing so. He says a rage for paper money will hinder the abilities of those elected and therefore should not be. This prevented anyone who was poor from being elected. The conservatives think of it as some kind of culture of poverty, personal choice (Furlong, 2013, p. 328) that is riddled with fraud and waste. While the liberals, site welfare as a state of unequal opportunities caused by unfair economics or less than ideal social conditions beyond their control (Furlong, 2013, p. 328). Building on this, enforcement of the policy and allowing partial welfare, as the work income level adjusted to a set threshold (Dorgan, 2003) would gain further success. If the job was less than the benefits, it only enhances the stagnation because it is beneficial to not work at some points. Improving daycare availability and addressing societal causes would greatly decrease the dependency of welfare (Dorgan, 2003). Properly funding these reforms would be a key to the success of reforming welfare.
