Abstract
My hypothesis is that if I add different amounts of sugar to the same amount of boiling water and

crystals. I determined that my hypothesis was correct. The glass I chose to add the pure cane sugar did

Rock candy is a simple scientific experiment made at home from sugar and water. Rock candy can be
made up of different types of sugar. I used pure cane granulated sugar. Rock candy is formed when
sugar is dissolved in boiling water and is cooled and placed in a glass jar with the wooden skewer.
When the water evaporates the sugar crystal will start to grow overtime. The water and sugar is a
saturated solution, meaning that water could only hold sugar if both were very hot. By cooling the
water, the sugar comes out of the solution and forms crystals on the skewer and around the glass. The
hypothesis for my experiment was that the more sugar you use the more crystals will form. My
question is if you add more sugar, will more crystals?
Experimental Procedure Question: If you add more sugar will more crystals form? Hypothesis: If I
add more sugar to the same amount of boiling water, it will grow more crystals. Materials:
Observation 1; 1 cup of water, 2 cups of sugar, 1 glass jar, 1 wooden skewer, 1 plate and 2 clothespins.
Observation 2; 1 cup of water, 3 cups of sugar, 1 glass jar, 1 wooden skewer, 1 plate, 5 drops of red
food coloring, and one plate. Procedure: I. Gather all the materials together. II. Label the glasses, 1
will be observation 1 and the other observation 2. III. For observation 1 and 2, pour 1 cup of water
into a pan and place on stove on high heat. For observation 2 add

Culture In The Middle Ages
Imagine going back in time with no stove, microwave, fast food, restaurants, grocery stores, or
refrigerators. Technology today gives us access to safer, healthier, and quicker food. The Middle Ages
was a time of culture deterioration. Throughout this period it wasn t known for it s food or good diet.
In medieval times, most people only ate two or three types of food. After the agricultural revolution,
peasants did not have a lot of access to a variety of food. They grew what they ate, which was also
collected for a tax. Peasants typically grow things like potatoes, corn, leeks, barley, rye and wheat.
Compared to hunter gatherer societies prior to the agricultural revolution, peasants were very
unhealthy. They only ate the same two to three

The Raven and Ligeia a comparison Essay
The Raven and Ligeia a comparison
Although the two tales are presented in different literary forms the tales themselves deal with
remarkably similar subject matter. So much so that it is possible to compare the style of each with but
a little reference to the general themes of the two works.
The Raven and Ligeia are both about loss. The narrators of both tales have lost the dearest thing to
them, a woman of incomparable talents and beauty. That the loss of this woman has happened for
different reasons does not matter for it is how this loss manifests itself in the lives of the narrators that
provide the drama and the poignancy of the stories. In each we discover the narrator is dwelling upon
that woman that he adored and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her insistence that Man doth not yield him to the angels, nor unto death utterly, save only through the
weakness of his feeble will. Is the most important of these cryptic and morbid musing of the ladies
deathbed. So it is that after he has moved from the country of their romance and residence he is still so
obsessed with her that he makes his new home in an old abandoned abbey and even goes so far as to
decorate his bedroom with the mortuary artefacts of several eastern cultures. It is not until his second,
and neglected, wife takes ill that these morbid fascinations take full root. Through the veils of an
opiate stupor he begins to imagine some supernatural agency that only he has perceived to be
responsible for the final demise of his current wife. And after the death he begins to imagine a
reviving of the corpse where in the end just as the dawn approaches he beholds his beloved Ligeia
returned to him.
So it is that the main themes in both of these works are those of obsession, death and the guilt of the
survivor. How each approaches this and evokes the mood in the reader is remarkably different.
In Ligeia the narrator begins his tale in a crumbling city on the
Rhine, immediately evoking thoughts of the old world, this is emphasised almost straight away as he
describes his departed love. He compares her with the goddesses of the

The Bell Jar
Throughout the movie, The Other Boleyn Girl and the novel, The Bell Jar, director Justin Chadwick
and author Sylvia Plath respectively present the struggles faced by women in order to establish
identities within their patriarchal societies. The authors of both texts explore these causes by situating
their texts within a society where women are potentially disempowered at the hands of men. Where
Chadwick explores the systematic disempowerment of women who are a threat to their men, Plath
contrastingly reconnoitres the dissociation women experience when they don t fit societal expectation.
In order to heighten reader s response and personalise the respective texts, each author has explored
the experiences of a central female protagonist. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within both texts, it is clear that the societal expectations of women are what separate the genders:
women are caged in a domestic duty to their men, used purely for marriage, reputation and procreation
purposes. Esther, who consistently rejects the ideals held by the society at the time, resents these
duties, however Anne accepts and acts accordingly to her domesticated expectations in order to
become the Queen of England. Society within both texts is governed by the domination of men in
powerful occupations, particularly obvious through King Henry being the King of England, and
Buddy Willard of The Bell Jar being in training to become a doctor. The hierarchy instigated by
Chadwick gives men a pseudo religious authority, demonstrated by the consistent reference to religion
and the wrath of God instilled by all characters. Through King Henry XVIII governing his country
based on the Catholic faith, and then excommunicating himself from the church in order to divorce his
wife, Chadwick is successful in expressing the unimaginable power men were in possession of.
Furthermore, in the novel as opposed to the movie, it is seen that Henry divorces his wife, Katherine
of Aragon (who was originally married to his brother), after realising that, as stated in Leviticus 20:21,
sleeping with another mans wife is barred by the Catholic church and such a union will remain
childless. These intertextual references give the men arguably Biblical power, reinforced by the
nomenclature: with the central main character of King Henry consistently being referred to as either
King , My Lord or His Majesty . While his dealings as King remain unclear to the reader, it is clear
that his position is one of immense power. Contrastingly, Anne Boleyn, as a widely read, intelligent
female character, attracts King Henry with her ability to

Faith In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Young Goodman Brown story was very interesting as it talked about God and Brown s faith. When he
went out in the forest in Salem Village, I believed everything that happened was something conjured
by evil but Brown put himself in that situation. That morning, his wife Faith asked him for a hug and
kiss, and tried to convince her husband Brown, not to go into the forest at night. She whispered in his
ear, Put off your journey until sunrise, and sleep in your own bed tonight, (Brown 386). Faith was a
Godly woman who always prayed for her and her husband. She too had troubled dreams and thoughts.
She was afraid of herself sometimes, especially of her thoughts. Brown never knew about her doubtful
thoughts. Brown didn t understand with it being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faith knew that she wasn t strong enough to go against the devil. She was all in doubt, questioning her
own faith, but just always tried/ wanted to stay strong for Brown. Once Brown started seeing
everybody else crossover including his wife Faith, he too begin to doubt his own faith, and belief in
God. Brown started to feel himself get weak, so he lifts his hands to pray. When he started praying, a
dark black cloud shifted northward and came along some confused doubtful voices. A lot of voices
was clouding Brown s mind but he stayed strong, and firm. He didn t let nothing, or nobody get to
him. He was very hurt by the fact of seeing his wife crossing over to the devil side. Brown got back
home and saw his wife sitting there with the same pink ribbons in her head. He then too began to think
that he was dreaming or if it was a true story or not. As I stated at the beginning of my essay,
everything that had happened was something convinced by evil. The evil Travelers were trying to
convince others to be of the Devil and not God. Now he wonders why his neither Grandfather nor
Father took that dark gloomy path, and was always in the house before midnight. He also sees why his
wife didn t want him to go on that evil journey. Brown doesn t know what to believe, he doesn t know
if his wife crossed over to be with the devil or not. His mind is playing tricks on him. Since Brown is
having those thoughts, he

The Reactions to the Death of Addie Bundren through...
The Reactions to the Death of Addie Bundren through William Faulkner s
As I Lay Dying. The author of As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner, really contributes to the aspects of
literature through his ability to tell a seemingly incredible story through only the stream of
consciousness technique. Faulkner takes his insight beyond the piece, through other s views and
thoughts. Although the characters might be acting differently upon each subject or handling each
action in opposite ways, the tone and theme that he uses really brings the whole piece to a perfect
balance. In As I Lay Dying, Faulkner displays contradicting elements through the reactions of the
family members towards the mother s death with the use of dialogue, tone, imagery, and internal
conflict. When speculating about the only female character, in regards to the mother, it is evident that
a predictable aspect will be found in Dewey Dell for she carries the female qualities in the story. This
statement in As I Lay Dying, Ma, Dewey Dell says; ma! (Faulkner 48) was the first reaction made by
any of the characters towards the death of the mother, and it came from Dewey Dell. Reasons for this
could be the sexist factor that she is a girl, so her reaction will be more emotionally projected than that
of the male characters. However, the aspect of Dewey Dell not being able to let go of her mother can
also play a role in her reaction. This idea is expressed through ...the fan is still moving like it has for

Turkey Research Paper
The history is always a good place to start when you are writing a paper over countries. The history of
Turkey is pretty interesting to talk about. During the 1300s a group of Turks also know for as the
Ottomans founded a principality in Northwestern Anatolia. Which means the Ottoman created an
empire and that empire soon became one of the most powerful empires in the world. With that being
said later on in 1939 1945 Turkish sided with the democratic western nations during and after World
War II. Now switching from history over to geography, agriculture in Turkey is widely practiced in the
Northwestern and the Southwestern of Turkey. Now you notice that the Eastern part of Turkey wasn t
mentioned, that is because the Eastern parts of turkey are the most mountainous parts, which tells you
that it s very difficult to practice agriculture there. Now a little more about mountains are that many
peaks in Turkey exceed 10,000 feet at the least. Turkey s highest point is Mt. Ararat which peaks at
16,948 feet, which is very tall compared to the smaller ones. Another very interesting thing about
Turkey is the people and their lifestyles, you may not know but turkish lives are far from the same as
American lives, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Burnout And Overtraining And Sport Psychology
This week I read the chapter on Burnout and Overtraining and Children and Sport Psychology. I found
this to be an interesting topic that many people do not consider. Due to the competitiveness of sports
or a performance setting, people are encouraged to continue training and to not take time off.
However, excessive training can lead to overtraining and burnout. This can then cause athletes to be
more susceptible to injury, concerns in interpersonal relationships such as not having time to be with
friends or added stress from parents, psychological concerns such as losing enjoyment for the activity,
etc. That is why it is important to take time to prevent burnout from happening. I know for dance, my
teacher always commented on how taking a week off from dance during the holidays can be helpful.
This is because during the school year we were stressed with academics and in November/December
we finished a stressful, busy season with Nutcracker performances. By the time of winter ... Show

Then, when we returned from the break, I found I was more in tuned to my dancing, able to balance
better, and felt more focused. That is because taking that relaxing break helped to prevent burnout. It
is important to take breaks every now and then. It can be beneficial to advancing forward in technique
and healthy for the mind. People may think taking breaks would be counterintuitive, but short breaks
can be effective for athletes or performers.
In addition, the chapter of Children and Sport Psychology discussed reasons children participate in
sport but also reasons for why they drop out. Again, applying this to dance, it is very interesting to
look at the numbers of those that start dance and those

Sequence Of A Sequence Structure
Sequence
Basically in a sequence structure the action leads to the next ordered action in an
encoded/programmed order. Sequence can include any numbers of actions; however no actions can be
missed or skipped in the sequence. When the program runs it must execute each action in order to be
not missing or skipping an action. Sequence, selection and loop are the main vital structures used to
solve any logic problems in programming by forming algorithms.

While loop
While loop and do while are used quite also in programming while loop itself executes a function that

What while loop does is firstly it tests the specified/given instructions by the user/programmer and

The Role of Women in Doyle´s A Scandal in Bohemia Essay
Doyle s A Scandal in Bohemia follows the story of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes on his
adventures to retrieve a disgraceful photograph of Irene Adler and the King of Bohemia. The king,
now engaged to a different woman, is fearful that Adler may use the photo as blackmail. In A Scandal
in Bohemia, the apparent role of women is minuscule. The only female emphasis is on one woman,
who is the object of Holmes detective inquiries. In A Scandal in Bohemia, society places women at a
subordinate level, pushing them to the background and therefore never allowing the reader to fully
understand their character. Watson describes women as second class citizens at the start of the story
without directly saying so. Watson comments: My own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The King also fears the revelation of the scandalous photograph simply because it lies in the hands of
a woman. His interests to dominate this woman, Irene Adler, are evident in the callous actions the
King directs towards her. The King states, Five attempts have been made. Twice burglars in my pay
ransacked her house. Once we diverted her luggage when she traveled. Twice she has been waylaid.
There has been no result (218). This disdain and oblivion towards Adler s privacy leads one to
reassess the King s motives. Is he actually interested in the photograph or do his actions focus solely
on hurting Irene Adler? The King wants the upper hand on this beautiful, yet extremely intelligent
woman. The King s attitude towards his future wife and his former lover, Irene Adler, fits into society
s narrowly defined roles of women. In British Victorian society, women were the nurtures and the
protectors of the children, and what some deemed as only monetarily valuable items. This female
instinct to nurture is one stereotype that is greatly reflected in the personality of Irene Adler. Adler s
willingness to help is a quality that Watson, as well as other men in society, felt all women should
possess. Watson acknowledges this nurturing tendency when he says, but I know that I never felt more
heartily ashamed of myself when I saw the beautiful creature against which I was conspiring, or the
grace and kindliness with which she

Migration And Racial Tension Of Australia
Migration and racial tension
I believe that the two topics that I have chosen relate to each other in many ways. The racial tension
came from the migrating races to Australia, and the issues that the Australians of the time had with the
new people . The migration occurred because there was a growing business in a new country, there
were more opportunities for trade and everyone wanted to try their luck on the gold fields. I found the
migrating story s from the Chinese to be more of an interesting theme. This is the same with the racial
tension, the mass groups of Chinese were the main targets with the racism.
Most migrants that came to Australia to grab a share of the gold rush, left behind family and home. In
traditional Chinese culture this was particularly difficult for them to come from a parent s heavy
focused family system, to an alien country to live.
The Chinese people that came to Australia were typically men brining there family over with them to
work for an income that would be big enough to support them. The wife however was left at home to
forfill the role of looking after her in laws in this time. The family would have to work for them
aswell, and send a percentage of there profit over.
As the population of chinses immergents started to climb, they were starting to become apart of
population statistics. If you were Chinese by birth and you were outside NSW, the governments of the
other states took advantage of you and made you pay a special reentry

Transformer 5 The Last Knight
With Transformers 5: The Last Knight coming out next year, Autobot fans are getting anxious.
Anxious to find out what Josh Duhamel and the rest of the gang are going to be up against. Which is
why the cast of Michael Bay s movie is going to be huge.
Aside from giving off a medieval vibe, Transformers 5: The Last Knight is also giving off an elite
energy. With Josh Duhamel returning to the Transformers franchise as Lieutenant Colonel William
Lennox, Mark Wahlberg thinks this is going to be good.
In the middle of this year, the movie starts its production in Cuba and in Detroit. Recently, Bumblebee
is spotted cruising along the streets of London. But these guys are not the only ones in the movie. It
looks like John Turturro and John Goodman are also going to return to the franchise. Talk about a

Autobots in their mission. And Turturro, who plays Agent Simmons in the first three movies is coming

This smells like it is going to be a big reunion for everybody. With new cast members coming in such
as Anthony Hopkins and Laura Haddock, it looks like Bay s final hurrah. Director Michael Bay did
say that Transformers 5: The Last Knight is the fifth and final film he is going to direct. Which is most
likely why he is rounding up big names from the Age of Extinction.
Tyrese Gibson and Stanley Tucci are also coming back. Gibson reprises his role as Robert Epps. He is
on the Autobots side. While Tucci is coming back as Joshua Joyce. The guy responsible for Galvatron.
If you look closely, it looks like everybody from the whole franchise since the first movie is in it.

Role Of Expiration Dates Of Yeast Sample Viability
Role of Expiration Dates in Yeast Sample Viability

Biology 2040, 1003
Abstract
Yeasts consume organic compounds (e.g. sugar) to make ATP in a process called fermentation,
creating ethanol and carbon dioxide. Dried yeast samples are in a quiescent state; that is, the yeast are
in a state of arrested cell growth. Given the differing expiration dates of our yeast samples, we
hypothesized that the yeast nearest to their expiration dates would take the longest to produce carbon
dioxide.
We used the gaseous carbon dioxide product of yeast s fermentation reaction to observe the length of
time our yeast samples (with four different expiration dates) took to undergo fermentation, by ... Show

These organic compounds, such as sugars, are used by yeasts as reactants in a process called alcoholic
fermentation. During alcoholic fermentation, yeast produces two ethanol molecules and two carbon
dioxide (C02) molecules from one molecule of glucose; the equation for alcoholic fermentation is:
C6H12O6 → 2 C2H5OH + 2 CO2.
In our experiment, we used the gaseous property of CO2 at STP to measure the activity of alcoholic
fermentation among store bought yeasts with different expiration dates in the presence of sugar. We
hypothesized that the yeast nearer their expiration dates would rise more slowly, or not at all, when
compared to the yeast that were farther from the expiration dates listed on their packages. This
experiment is important, because yeasts are commonly used subjects of many scientific research
studying genes, cell life cycles and responses; and, as such we need to understand how to determine
and assure yeasts viability. (Gancedo, J. M.1998 and Váchová, L. et al., 2012)
Methods
To test our hypothesis that yeast closer to their printed expiration dates were less likely to undergo
alcoholic fermentation than yeast farther from their printed expiration dates, we used store bought
yeast with different expiration dates, meaning that our yeast varied in age. In addition, we tested our
hypothesis using four bags of store bought yeast, each with different expiration dates. To observe
whether each bag underwent fermentation,

`` Handbook Of Christian Apologetics `` Essay
Christian teachings have been challenged by unbelievers since the beginning of history. Today,
because the new discoveries of science, the existence of God has been doubted even more, and as a
consequence, society has become more selfish, self centered and self existent. Questions such as, Does
God actually exist? Is there any evidence of his existence? Is it Christianity the only true religion?
have been asked by believers and unbelievers through the past centuries. Two philosophers from
Boston College, Peter Kreeft, and Ronald K. Tacelli, in their book Handbook of Christian Apologetics
answer the most common questions about faith and reason, God s existence, Christ and other Christian
doctrines.
In Chapter 1, Kreeft and Tacelli talk about the importance and need for Apologetics. It importance
comes, first, because with Apologetics we are able to give reasons for faith as an act of obedience to
God. And secondly, because Apologetics is necessary to convince unbelievers and build up believers.
Furthermore, apologetics is extremely needed today because we are living in a civil, cultural,
intellectual crisis, and especially a spiritual one. Thus, we need truth and trough Apologetics, with
faith and reason, we can find it.
In Chapter 2, faith and reason are described as allies. They are interrelated. As faith is a subpart of
reason, reason is a subclass of faith. Both of them are necessary for Apologetics, without faith and
reason Apologetics is impossible. Faith and reason

Neo-Marxist Contribution to Theories O Social Class...
How far would you say that Neo Marxist have contributed to the continuing relevance of theories of
social class inequality today?
Social class inequality can be defined as the existence of socially created inequalities among and
within classes. They can be attributed to various factors such as race, colour, ethnicity, gender, income,
etc. It is arguable that inequalities that exist in post independence societies as well as the inequalities
which exist between nations can be directly traced back to the exploitative capitalism which
accompanied European colonialism. Neo Marxism has indeed contributed to the continuing relevance
of theories of social class inequality in contemporary times. Therefore, the aim of this essay is to

And in addition it should improve on the understanding of our society through integrating the major
social sciences. Neo Marxism therefore held views that were synonymous with Marxism however
they were amended and extended on his principles to keep up with modern times. Neo Marxism,
according to neo marxist Nicos Poulantzas sought to answer three basic questions that traditional
Marxist was unable to deliver a rationale for. These questions were firstly, why did the socialist and
social democratic political parties not band together against WWI? (Instead of support for their own
countries). Secondly, why although the timing seemed right for a workers revolution in the west it did
not take place? And lastly how did fascism take place in Europe at this time?
Neo Marxism is based on the total political economic cultural systems that exist in contemporary
societies. Neo Marxists were concerned with the growth of the middle class, which changed the
traditional Marxist class view of there being only two classes; to the introduction of a new class the
middle class. They studied the composition of the labour force; that is the fragmentation of the
working class and the decomposition of capital; that is the growth in the middle class. They needed to

The Importance Of Formative Assessment In The Classroom
Incident two demonstrates a range of different assessment strategies which were used within the maths
carousel lesson. The intentions and learning outcomes of this lesson were to explore and identify key
concepts of division as well as being able to recall prior knowledge to help the children with their
comprehension of the topic which would continue throughout the week. The learning objectives were
outlined at the beginning of the lesson to the children to ensure that they understood what was

Formative assessment, which was used to help improve teaching and learning, can be viewed as an
effective way to determine and improve the quality of learning within the classroom (Black and
Wiliam, 2009). However, it could be argued that formative assessment is infrequently used within the
classroom, suggesting that summative assessment is the focus within education, as it helps to capture
accurate results which can be compared against a specific standard (Graham et al., 2017) (Marsh,
2007). This is also exemplified in the work undertaken by Yan and Cheng (2015) as they state that
some teachers may give up on the adoption of formative assessment due to short time frames and the
pressures of summative examinations. William and Black (1996), Torrance and Pryor (2001) and Taras
(2008) observe that formative assessment eventually leads into summative assessment, as learning

Does the Video Overlook the Danger of Exploiting Women?
No, the video does not seem to ignore the dangers of exploiting women. In fact, it is trying to sensitize
the public on the factors that lead to teen prostitution. Although money may act as a motivating factor,
some of these girls are looking for affection and attention from the old men that they sleep with. One
of the interviewees mentions that as a single mom, her daughter constantly had the urge of having a
dad which only got worse after he started dating again (Portland s Teen Prostitution, 2010). Her
daughter thus got into sex to get the fatherly love she lacked. ... Show more content on

It is important that those young children have time to enjoy their youth without engaging in adult
affairs. There should instead be strict rules governing the industry, and the minimum age for the
strippers should also be increased, for instance to about 25years. Legalizing prostitution in Las Vegas
also illustrates that states do no need to be governed by any morality and everyone should protect
themselves from the harsh realities of the world. The teenagers in other states may also feel left out,
and they may choose to experiment with sex in Las Vegas.

Persuasive Essay On Space Mountain
It was our first trip to Disney World, and we were visiting what I thought, was the scariest ride in the
world. I thought that certain ride was scary, because ever since I was five I would always throw up on
the roller coasters, or even car rides. I hated roller coasters ever since I threw up. I thought to myself,
This is Disney World we re talking about, I have to go on this ride, I need this. I promised myself I
would go on every single ride here. I will get over this fear. After that thought I looked at my dad, as
he was already planning on going on this ride. The ride was called Space Mountain, I was told that
people with motion sickness shouldn t go on the ride, but that won t stop me. I ve also been told it is a
pretty cool and fun ride, so that is another reason why I m going on Space Mountain. Daddy, I told
him. I wanna go on Space Mountain. I felt so confident in that one moment of my life. My mom gives
me a look. Peanut, you shouldn t go on that ride, you will get sick and puke. She says. I look back at
my mom then my dad. My dad whispers something into her ear as my mom turns to me and hands me
a doggie bag.
Use this just in case you puke. She says. Have fun sweetie, my mom says softly. My dad takes my
hand and tells me he is proud of me, he leads me to Space Mountain.
As soon as I looked up, I felt sick, the structure and ride was so big. I didn t know that I could do it,
but I had to, I couldn t chicken out in front my Dad. After all I already told him I would go. We
walked into Space Mountain, there were lights everywhere we looked. I started to jump up and down,
I started to get excited for once about a roller coaster, I felt so proud of myself, I would actually get a
chance to ride a roller coaster again! I felt scared, and I also felt so happy and proud of myself at the
same time. My Mom and brother chickened out on going, so I felt so alive, and mature to be riding
such a big ride. I looked at the line, there were no people, we were early! Come on Daddy, there are
more people coming behind us! Behind me and my dad, were a big group of people walking in, we
wanted first in front of the, so I ran and dashed through the aisle, the lights lit up

Reaction Of The Maillard Reaction
Introduction
The non enzymatic reaction of reducing sugars with amino groups of amino acids, peptides and
proteins is called as non enzymatic glycosylation or simply glycation. This non enzymatic reaction
ultimately results in the formation of complex brown pigments and protein protein crosslinks that
were first studied under defined conditions by Maillard in the early 1900s (Maillard and Gautier,
1912) and the reaction came to known as the Maillard reaction. There is a condensation reaction
between reducing sugar and free amino acids at the amino terminus or susceptible ε amino group of
lysine residues of proteins producing labile N substituted glycosylamine (Schiff base) that may
undergo two sequential rearrangements, forming a stable Amadori product (Fayle Gerrard, 2002). The
reducing sugars namely, glucose, fructose, galactose, mannose, ribose and certain carbohydrate
relatives are inherently reactive toward nucleophilic groups. Glucose is the least reactive among
common sugars because it exists in least concentration in the open chain form (Paulsen and
Pflughaupt, 1980). Amadori rearrangement was a key early step in the Maillard reaction (Hodge,
1955). Early glycation directs the formation of Schiff s bases and Amadori products that further
oxidized to advanced glycated end products (AGEs) (Chetyrkin et al., 2008). Studies have shown that
the glycation process (in the early stage where the interaction of sugars, such as glucose, with free
amino groups of lysine and

The White Working Class That Caused These Problems
Was it really the White working class that caused these problems? Or was it the companies that
outsourced their jobs overseas? The white working class are also known as the hillbillies. They are
people who have gone through a lot of suffering but also have made a lot problems on their own.
While I definitely think that it is up to the former White working class to dig themselves out, I m
unsure that they re the ones responsible for this mess. Loosing their jobs to outsourcing and loosing
their sense of hope has led them to follow Donald Trump s campaign because he sympathizes with
them and promises them economic and social changes. These families have struggled with poverty,
domestic violence, drugs, and unemployment. One of those families was J.D. Vance s family. Vance
grew up in the Rust Belt of Ohio, into a struggling, poor, abusive family. Vance escaped his hardships
by enrolling into the Military and going to school. However, other people weren t as lucky as he was
to get out, other families were still stuck in Hillbilly Middletown. Things were going good for these
families until the 1970s and 1980s came along. This is when things took a toll, industrial jobs were
cut, causing a down ward spiral for everyone in Ohio. This is when the alcoholism, drug use, and
domestic violence became a norm. For about a century, the region seemed to be on a upward spiral.
Middletown s streets today are full of shuttered storefronts and drug dealers, (Rothman,New Yorker).

Community Emergency Response Team ( Cert )

When a disaster has taken place, first responders who provide fire and medical services will not be
equipped to meet the demands for many services. Several issues such as the number of victims,
communication failures and road blockages will stop people from accessing emergency services they
have come to expect at a moment s notice through 911 emergency services. Individuals will have to
rely on others for help in order to meet their immediate lifesaving and life sustaining needs. If access
is blocked or the agency s capacity is exceeded, it may be hours or days before trained help arrives.
There is a four phase model that organizes the events of emergency managers. This model is known as

According to the text, disasters are more than common emergencies such as those of traffic accidents,
personal injuries, or house fires general in communities (Disaster Recovery; 19). Other events can
result in a disaster requiring this Disaster Recovery Plan to be activated:
Fire
Flash flood
Pandemic
Power Outage
Theft
Terrorist Attack
Purpose
The purpose for this Disaster Recovery Plan is to primarily maintain all of the information and
material appropriate to the initiative s ability to survive a disaster, and to document all the phases that
the initiative will take if a disaster does occur. The first priority of the TC MACT if a disaster does
occur is to prevent the loss of lives. In order to move to the second step, we must guarantee all
personnel and other members on the premises are safe and secure. Once we can guarantee the safety
of individuals, the next objective of the TC MACT will be to ratify the steps outlined in this DRP to
bring all of the agencies, groups and departments back to business as usual as quickly as possible.
Although CERT programs vary in some ways, they all share the potential to offer significant benefits
to their sponsoring organizations, their communities and their citizens. As with any activity, there is
risk.

Henrietta Lacks was born on August 1, 1920, in Roanoke, Virginia. Lacks died of cervical cancer on
October 4, 1951, at age 31. Cells taken from her body without her knowledge were used to form the
HeLa cell line. Lacks s case has sparked legal and ethical debates over the rights of an individual to

Life and Death
Henrietta Lacks was born as Loretta Pleasant. At some point in time, she changed her name to
Henrietta. After her mother died in 1924, she was sent to live with her grandfather in a log cabin, that
had been the slave head quarters of a white ancestor s plantation. Henrietta shared a room with her

A Report On Car Sharing Vehicles
with vehicles located in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour,
The current transportation market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile, but
fewer practical options for using a vehicle occasionally.
This contributes to several problems:
It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours per
week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile.
It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the
incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility costs,
accidents and environmental impacts.
Some low income households cannot afford to drive at all, or they spend an excessive portion of their
budgets own vehicles they only need occasionally. This is a financial burden and contributes to
problems such as uninsured driving.

Salmon hatcheries have been operated for a variety of purposes throughout their its history in this
region, from harvest augmentation, to mitigation of habitat destruction, to conservation and
preservation of native populations. Despite this long history, we are only just beginning to understand
how hatchery raised fish interact with and effect wild populations of salmon. Research shows that
captive bread salmon impact wild salmon in a variety of ways, from competing with them directly for
resources, to reducing the fitness of wild populations through interbreeding between wild fish and less
fit hatchery fish. These findings have serious implications for the hatchery industry, and as the focus

Above all, its specific properties have not yet been fully exploited, which can be partially attributed to
a shortage of easily available statistical methods in the past and a lack of awareness on the side of the
researchers. In the following sections we will first discuss the properties of various measurement
scales and subsequently focus on the continuous rating scale in online surveys in more detail. Sub3
sequently we discuss the problem of outliers and nonsense data in survey research and apply
classical and robust factor analysis to our data sample. Finally, we simulate the occurrence of outliers
(„noise‟) in our data set and illustrate how different levels of noise impact the results of factor analytic
procedures.
Measurement
Scaling The usage of surveys in IS research has been heavily criticized in the past for lack of
psychometric rigor and appropriate modeling techniques. In order to remedy this problem, general
standards for conducting surveys have to be improved and constantly questioned (Pinsonneault
Kraemer, 1993; Newsted et al., 1996). When constructing a questionnaire, researchers are confronted
with the task of finding an appropriate scale to measure the construct(s) under investigation. Usually
this is done by consulting previous literature and adopting a set of items which has been previously
tested for validity and reliability. A

Pool Of Blood Short Story
Blood was everywhere. An enormous pool of thick blood disguised the cool gymnasium floor. No one
knew so much blood could escape from such tiny gums. Two dish towels soaked red, to be exact. My
mind was in a haze. Somewhere in that pool of blood lay my two front teeth. I was just an innocent,
curly haired little girl when God decided to throw an event at me that would change my life forever.
First grade, just a couple weeks after my permanent teeth had grown in. Lunch was going as normal:
we ate, cleaned, and played. We formed a line of competitive little kids, ready to race our scooters.
Small mats were stacked on top of them, for added comfort, I suppose. Little did I know the disaster
that would make an impact on my life forever, was only seconds away. Luckily, my Aunt Suzanne and
Uncle Chad were on lunch duty that day. About half way through the race, the mat on my scooter slid
off, catching the front wheels and making the scooter tip forwards. From this point, the story becomes

The Development And Constant Change Of Infants Essay
The development and constant change of infants is mind blowing and incredible. Each infant develops
at approximately the same, quick pace, but each small life in the grand scheme of infant development
could vary greatly (Santrock, 2016). There are many different factors that must be considered in the
first years of life that are extremely crucial for development and change. In order to better understand
infant development, it is important to consider how each of these factors will affect the baby; three
examples of these factors are sleep patterns, eating habits, and motor development, all which impact
the general health of the infant overall.
It is relatively general knowledge that infants tend to sleep much more than the average child, adult, or
adolescent. My virtual child, Margo, in between three and eight months, was sleeping six hours out of
the night, and taking a few two hour naps during the day, consistently sleeping about 12 hours per day
(My Virtual Child, 2014). The average amount of sleep that an infant will get on any given night is
anywhere in between ten to twenty one hours per day (Santrock, 2016). Based on this knowledge, it
can be concluded that Margo s sleeping habits are not necessarily abnormal for her age. Margo was
also strictly breastfed. In the study Infant Sleep Development from 3 to 6 Months Postpartum: Links
with Maternal Sleep and Paternal Involvement, it was stated that there was correlation between infants

Why School Start Times For Students Essay
Many young students, from the U.S. and abroad, have to wake up at an earlier time in order to get to
school. What many of them do not realize however is the effects it can have on their body s
development. Sleep is seen as unnecessary or even pointless to many young children, but as they get
older, their appreciation for the act becomes widely apparent. Lots of educational systems all over the
country still start school at a time earlier than 8 o clock in the morning. The developing students who
have to wake up at such an early time don t realize that they shouldn t have to wake up so early in the
morning, and that is because their bodies simply don t function properly at a certain time and with a
lack of sleep. I believe that school start times for students that are in primary and secondary school
should start later because doing so will have a positive effect on their overall physical health as well as
their psychosocial development. School start times play a very big role in a student s overall
development, especially when they aren t getting enough sleep because of it. An important factor to
consider for a student s development is the act of sleeping; that a lack of it can cause serious problems
to the students growing body. According to research done with Brown University s Julie Boergers, the
author of the letter Benefits of later school start times , the amount of sleep that adolescents need
ranges from 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep. Only 17 percent of these students

Definition Essay On Equality
Equality the state or quality of being equal; correspondence in quantity, degree, value, rank, or ability.
Equality is more than a 15 word definition. Equality is knowing someone is different but treating them
the same, equality is knowing someone has muscular dystrophy and treating them like you would any
other person, equality is when you introduce yourself you state the pronouns you go by like he, she, or
they, equality is not assuming that because of someone s gender they like the opposite gender, equality
is seeing a girl s short haircut and not assuming they are a lesbian or transgender. Equality is not 15
words. Equality can be an infinite amount of words if we step out of our comfort zone just a little bit
to experience some of what could be a mass utopia.
Many people do not support some forms of equality because they were grown up into the beliefs their
parents have taught them. So basically This is the truth, don t let anyone tell you different . That s just
how it was and you were like Okay mommy I love you bye . But what if for ... Show more content on

This was a large step in America. The White House lit up with the gay pride flag and everyone was
getting married. It was amazing. But, in controversial times like that, it shows you who people really
are. There were many reports telling how people refused to marry same sex couples because it went
against their beliefs and religions as a person. I understand that you were grown up to the belief that
man shall not lie with another man or maybe that is just what you think. I get it. But truly they are not
abominations; they are people just like you and me. If you accidently cut yourself, you bleed. If you
fall, you bleed. If someone who is gay accidentally cuts themself, they bleed. If someone who is gay
falls, they bleed. There is blood running through their veins the same as there is blood running through
yours we are not different. But we should be

Snail Farming
CHAPTER 1 1.0 INTRODUCTION
Snail meat has been consumed by humans throughout the world since prehistoric times. It is high
protein (12 16%) and irons (45 50mg/kg), low in fat (0.05 0.8%) and contains almost all the amino
acids needed by humans. In addition to the nutritional value of snail meat, a recent study has shown
that the glandular substances from edible snails cause agglutination of certain bacteria; this could be of
value against a variety of ailments, including whooping cough.
In Nigeria, Ghana and Cote d ivoire, where snail meat is particularly popular, snails are gathered from
the forest during the wet season. In recent years, however, wild snail populations have declined
considerably, primarily because of the impact of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A priority in setting up productive farming venture therefore, is to construct escape proof housing. The
first step is to select an appropriate site. There are a number of factors to consider in site selection. The
main ones are wind direction, soil characteristics and climate.
2.3.1 Wind speed and direction
Wind accelerates moisture loss in snails. To prevent snails from drying therefore, snaileries should be
situated in sites which are protected from the wind. Downhill sites, preferably where there is good
enough tree cover to reduce the impact of the wind, are usually the most suitable.
2.3.2 Soil characteristics
Soil is a major part of a snail s habitat and soil composition, water content and texture are important
factors to consider in site selection. The shell of a snail is made up mainly of calcium, most of which
is derived from the soil. Snails also derive most of their water requirement from the soil. They dig in
the soil to lay

The Causes Of Lysosomal Diseases
More dysregulated metabolites were identified in the liver (n=177) than that in the brain (n=122).
Notably, there are more amino acid, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides identified in livers (mostly
upregulated). These results are expected because the liver is the primary site of metabolism. In terms
of pathways enriched, significant involvement of neurotransmission and chemical synaptic
transmission were observed in the brain. Meanwhile, there are several pathways only enriched in
livers, including gamma glutamyl cycle, leukotriene biosynthesis, Phase II conjugation and
glutathione synthesis, which are mainly associated with oxidative stress and inflammation. The energy

The oxidative stress can cause cell damage, resulting in inflammation, which has also been found to
be a major contributor to disease progression of GM2 gangliosidosis [17]. In this study, we identified
elevation in glutathione pathways, which plays a pivotal role in responses to oxidative stress. Another
evidence of inflammation is reduced levels of arachidonic acid, an omega 6 fatty acid, in brain
samples of SD mice. Oxidation of arachidonic acid can generate leukotrienes, a family of eicosanoid
inflammatory mediators produced in leukocytes, and thus promote inflammation. The increased
energy requirements can also activate autophagy and protein catabolism, which have been found in
MPS I and MPS VII mice [13]. In this study, we found increased levels of amino acids, amino acid
derivatives and dipeptides, indicating increased protein catabolism. Increased requirements of energy
and raw materials can also activate lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism, manifested by
decreased adiposity, a common observation in many lysosomal diseases [18 20]. In addition, the
enlarged lysosome and distended cells due to abnormal accumulation requires increased membrane
synthesis, which can also affect lipid metabolism. Our previous proteomic analysis [21] also identified
abnormality in the cytoskeleton system, which can be partially attributed to altered cellular
architecture due to storage accumulation. Collectively, we show here that the energy imbalance caused
by the lack of

Center for Restorative Justice Peacemaking.
Introduction and Background
Umbreit etal have conducted a study on the significance of the lens on restorative justice dialogue in
Minnesota in 2009. In most RJ programs, victims and offenders engage in direct dialogue about a
specific offense or infraction, with the presence of at least one third person who serves as a mediator,
facilitator, convener, or circle keeper. The purpose of the study was to learn whether the use of
Restorative Justice Programs would bring positive outcomes when restoring broken relationship and
trust between victim and offender. The survey also covered participation ... Show more content on

A school based group conferencing program reported that 70 percent of those in Group Confernceing

Children, Young Persons and Families Act of 1989 established new procedures for state intervention
into families and the lives of children and young people, replacing many court processes with family
group conferencing (p. 8). Their studies found that Group Confernceing dramatically reduced the
court load from up to 13,000 cases per year in 1990 (p. 8). In Circles, the Hollow Water First Nation
Community Holistic Circle Healing Process stated that ninety four individuals were diverted within
the communities. Numerous studies show that offenders who took part in RJ programs spent less time
incarcerated than did their counterparts. This indicates how effective RJ programs are to divert
offenders from punitive justice system. A school based circle project in Minnesota succeeded in

Gregor Mendel And Darwin Similarities
There were two man especially in the past that changed the future. Gregor Mendel and Charles
Darwin. Gregor Mendel was very informed about genetics. If you have heard, he is known as the
father of genetics . On the other hand Charles Darwin had the theory of evolution. They both had
interest in science when they were younger. Mendel and Darwin both had some bumps in their career.
Mendel suffering from depression a lot. Also Darwin from his dad s line of scientists that wanted him
to follow their career path. In the end Charles Darwin and Gregor Mendel made a big change. Their
research helped later on scientists with research of their own. Gregor Mendel was born on July 20,

Literature Review On Lightweight Concrete
CHAPTER TWO: Literature review
2.1. Lightweight concrete:
2.1.1. Introduction:
Foam balls lightweight concrete (FBLWC) has been a feature in the structural construction owing to
its advantages over the normal weight concrete (NWC). It is a concrete weighing substantially less
than that is made using gravel or crushed stone aggregates. Lightweight aggregate concrete is usually
chosen for structural purposes which its use will lead to a lower overall cost of structure than will be
expected with normal weight concrete.
To gain perspective on the behavior of lightweight concrete, available literature from the previous
research work is reviewed and a review of the codes and standards requirements for this kind of
concrete. This literature review provides an overview of previous work done on lightweight concrete.
This chapter describes the nature of foamed balls concrete, its composition and properties and how it
is used in civil engineering works. Because the properties of foamed concrete can vary widely, and it
can be used in a wide variety of applications, it is important to define performance requirements for
each case.
2.1.2. Historical background:
The history of lightweight concrete production from natural source dates back to pre Roman times.

Aerated concrete is also commonly known as a cellular concrete (Neville and Brooks, 2010). It can be
divided into two main types according to the method of production. They are foamed concrete (non
autoclaved aerated concrete (NAAC)) and autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). Foamed concrete is
produced by injecting preformed stable foam or by adding a special air entraining admixture known as
a foaming agent into a base mix of cement paste or mortar (cement+water or cement+sand+water).
The AAC is produced by adding a predetermined amount of aluminum powder and other additives
into slurry of ground high silica sand, cement or lime and water. (Yen, 2006; Li,

The participants from ASU numbered 712 and consisted of randomly selected staff, faculty and
graduate students on campus, ages 20 to 65 years. KI had 1,406 participants, falling under the same
category as those at ASU. Three hundred and fifty five of the 2,118 participants, 355 were randomly

was related to the initial starting value, and somewhat for the changes seen over time, while gender
was only related to the initial starting value. While being different, the two research sites saw similar
changes in systolic and diastolic BPs. At KI, systolic and diastolic BP was seen to initially be high, the
fall about halfway through the study, and then slightly increase toward the end, while at ASU, systolic
and diastolic BP were seen to be lower than KI s initial measurement, increasing about halfway
through and then tapering off toward the end. Diastolic BP followed suit of systolic and decreased
over time by a rate of 4.03 mmHg every three months. However, for diastolic BP, gender had no
correlation to initial or continuous changes diastolic BP, age was only related to the initial diastolic
BP, and the number of steps taken was only related to the changes over time. For VO2max, ASU s
estimated VO2max was lower than KI s, and, over time, ASU participants VO2max decreased while it
stayed basically the same at KI. It was also found that the number of steps taken, and age were
positively related to changes in VO2max over time, while gender showed no

Investigating the Water Potential of Potato Cells
Investigating the Water Potential Of Potato Cells Aims 1. To test how water potential, in a solution,
affects the movement of water in and out of a cell by osmosis Prediction I predict that by increasing
the water potential around the outside of the potato cell, (i.e. so that the water potential is greater
outside the cell compared to the inside of the cell e.g. 0m sucrose) that the net movement of water into
the cell will increase. This is due to the water potential being greater outside the cell compared to the
inside of the cell, therefore water will diffuse into the cell by a process of osmosis. The opposite
however will occur when the water potential outside the cell is lower than that inside the cell (i.e. with
hypotonic solutions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I can do this by following two steps.(1). Firstly I can work out the concentration of sucrose in the
potato by reading of my graph were the %change in mass is 0, as this shows that at this point there
is no net movement of water hence the two areas have equal solute potentials. (In this case the
morality of the potato is 0.14m.) (2). I can then use this to work out the solute potential of the potato
by using the below graph, which was made from information from data sheets, showing the solute
potential at different moralities. The graph shows that as you increase the sucrose concentration of the
solution surrounding a potato,(hence making the solution Hypotonic)that the net movement of water
out of the cell increase. This is represented by the downwards sloping curve of the graph and is due to
the increased solute potential of the surroundings meaning that there is more solute in the solution;
hence more solutes form bonds with water molecules meaning that the water molecules are no longer
free to move or they move more slowly. As a result of this the water enters the solute solution faster
than water leaves the solute i.e. there is a net water movement out of the cell through the (permeable)
membrane . This is not true however before 0.14m concentration of solution as the solute
concentration is greater in the cell and therefore water enters the cell by a process of

Trasformations By Anne Sexton
Anne Sexton was an American poet, known for her highly intimate and sometimes even controversial
writing style. She started writing poetry in 1952 after being advised to do so by her psychiatrist, whom
she has been meeting to address her recessing mental health. In one of the collections, called
Trasformations, Sexton re tells Grimm s Fairy Tales in her own unique confessional style, often using
the absurdity of these stories to expose flaws and complexity of the surrounding world. By slightly
mocking the themes of the fairytales, Sexton succeeds in making us question what is underneath their
perfect facades. I would like to concentrate onto her re tell of Cinderella and how it differs from the
Brothers Grimm s version.

introduce us to the theme she wanted to convey to the readers. It is four different depictions of the rags

shows us that Sexton views story of Cinderella as yet another of those tales. This rags to riches motif
is not displayed so evidently in the Grimm s version so we can regard this introductory as very
important to understanding the Sexton s retold

Rock candy is a simple scientific experiment made at home from sugar and water. Rock candy can be made up of different types of sugar. I used pure cane granulated sugar. Rock candy is formed when sugar is dissolved in boiling water and is cooled and placed in a glass jar with the wooden skewer. When the water evaporates the sugar crystal will start to grow overtime. The water and sugar is a saturated solution, meaning that water could only hold sugar if both were very hot. By cooling the water, the sugar comes out of the solution and forms crystals on the skewer and around the glass. The hypothesis for my experiment was that the more sugar you use the more crystals will form. My question is if you add more sugar, will more crystals? Experimental Procedure Question: If you add more sugar will more crystals form? Hypothesis: If I add more sugar to the same amount of boiling water, it will grow more crystals. Materials: Observation 1; 1 cup of water, 2 cups of sugar, 1 glass jar, 1 wooden skewer, 1 plate and 2 clothespins. Observation 2; 1 cup of water, 3 cups of sugar, 1 glass jar, 1 wooden skewer, 1 plate, 5 drops of red food coloring, and one plate. Procedure: I. Gather all the materials together. II. Technology today gives us access to safer, healthier, and quicker food. The Middle Ages was a time of culture deterioration. Throughout this period it wasn t known for it s food or good diet. In medieval times, most people only ate two or three types of food. After the agricultural revolution, peasants did not have a lot of access to a variety of food. They grew what they ate, which was also collected for a tax. Peasants typically grow things like potatoes, corn, leeks, barley, rye and wheat. Compared to hunter gatherer societies prior to the agricultural revolution, peasants were very unhealthy. They only ate the same two to three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Raven and Ligeia a comparison Essay The Raven and Ligeia a comparison Although the two tales are presented in different literary forms the tales themselves deal with remarkably similar subject matter. So much so that it is possible to compare the style of each with but a little reference to the general themes of the two works. The Raven and Ligeia are both about loss. The narrators of both tales have lost the dearest thing to them, a woman of incomparable talents and beauty. That the loss of this woman has happened for different reasons does not matter for it is how this loss manifests itself in the lives of the narrators that provide the drama and the poignancy of the stories. In each we discover the narrator is dwelling upon that woman that he adored and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her insistence that Man doth not yield him to the angels, nor unto death utterly, save only through the weakness of his feeble will. Is the most important of these cryptic and morbid musing of the ladies deathbed. So it is that after he has moved from the country of their romance and residence he is still so obsessed with her that he makes his new home in an old abandoned abbey and even goes so far as to decorate his bedroom with the mortuary artefacts of several eastern cultures. It is not until his second, and neglected, wife takes ill that these morbid fascinations take full root. Through the veils of an opiate stupor he begins to imagine some supernatural agency that only he has perceived to be responsible for the final demise of his current wife. And after the death he begins to imagine a reviving of the corpse where in the end just as the dawn approaches he beholds his beloved Ligeia returned to him. So it is that the main themes in both of these works are those of obsession, death and the guilt of the survivor. How each approaches this and evokes the mood in the reader is remarkably different. In Ligeia the narrator begins his tale in a crumbling city on the Rhine, immediately evoking thoughts of the old world, this is emphasised almost straight away as he describes his departed love. He compares her with the goddesses of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Bell Jar Throughout the movie, The Other Boleyn Girl and the novel, The Bell Jar, director Justin Chadwick and author Sylvia Plath respectively present the struggles faced by women in order to establish identities within their patriarchal societies. The authors of both texts explore these causes by situating their texts within a society where women are potentially disempowered at the hands of men. Where Chadwick explores the systematic disempowerment of women who are a threat to their men, Plath contrastingly reconnoitres the dissociation women experience when they don t fit societal expectation. In order to heighten reader s response and personalise the respective texts, each author has explored the experiences of a central female protagonist. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within both texts, it is clear that the societal expectations of women are what separate the genders: women are caged in a domestic duty to their men, used purely for marriage, reputation and procreation purposes. Esther, who consistently rejects the ideals held by the society at the time, resents these duties, however Anne accepts and acts accordingly to her domesticated expectations in order to become the Queen of England. Society within both texts is governed by the domination of men in powerful occupations, particularly obvious through King Henry being the King of England, and Buddy Willard of The Bell Jar being in training to become a doctor. The hierarchy instigated by Chadwick gives men a pseudo religious authority, demonstrated by the consistent reference to religion and the wrath of God instilled by all characters. Through King Henry XVIII governing his country based on the Catholic faith, and then excommunicating himself from the church in order to divorce his wife, Chadwick is successful in expressing the unimaginable power men were in possession of. Furthermore, in the novel as opposed to the movie, it is seen that Henry divorces his wife, Katherine of Aragon (who was originally married to his brother), after realising that, as stated in Leviticus 20:21, sleeping with another mans wife is barred by the Catholic church and such a union will remain childless. These intertextual references give the men arguably Biblical power, reinforced by the nomenclature: with the central main character of King Henry consistently being referred to as either King , My Lord or His Majesty . While his dealings as King remain unclear to the reader, it is clear that his position is one of immense power. Contrastingly, Anne Boleyn, as a widely read, intelligent female character, attracts King Henry with her ability to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When he went out in the forest in Salem Village, I believed everything that happened was something conjured by evil but Brown put himself in that situation. That morning, his wife Faith asked him for a hug and kiss, and tried to convince her husband Brown, not to go into the forest at night. She whispered in his ear, Put off your journey until sunrise, and sleep in your own bed tonight, (Brown 386). Faith was a Godly woman who always prayed for her and her husband. Brown started to feel himself get weak, so he lifts his hands to pray. When he started praying, a dark black cloud shifted northward and came along some confused doubtful voices. A lot of voices was clouding Brown s mind but he stayed strong, and firm. He didn t let nothing, or nobody get to him. He was very hurt by the fact of seeing his wife crossing over to the devil side. Brown got back home and saw his wife sitting there with the same pink ribbons in her head. He then too began to think that he was dreaming or if it was a true story or not. As I stated at the beginning of my essay, everything that had happened was something convinced by evil. The evil Travelers were trying to convince others to be of the Devil and not God. Now he wonders why his neither Grandfather nor Father took that dark gloomy path, and was always in the house before midnight. He also sees why his wife didn t want him to go on that evil journey. The author of As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner, really contributes to the aspects of literature through his ability to tell a seemingly incredible story through only the stream of consciousness technique. Faulkner takes his insight beyond the piece, through other s views and thoughts. Although the characters might be acting differently upon each subject or handling each action in opposite ways, the tone and theme that he uses really brings the whole piece to a perfect balance. In As I Lay Dying, Faulkner displays contradicting elements through the reactions of the family members towards the mother s death with the use of dialogue, tone, imagery, and internal conflict. When speculating about the only female character, in regards to the mother, it is evident that a predictable aspect will be found in Dewey Dell for she carries the female qualities in the story. This statement in As I Lay Dying, Ma, Dewey Dell says; ma! (Faulkner 48) was the first reaction made by any of the characters towards the death of the mother, and it came from Dewey Dell. Reasons for this could be the sexist factor that she is a girl, so her reaction will be more emotionally projected than that of the male characters. However, the aspect of Dewey Dell not being able to let go of her mother can also play a role in her reaction. This idea is expressed through ...the fan is still moving like it has for ... During the 1300s a group of Turks also know for as the Ottomans founded a principality in Northwestern Anatolia. Which means the Ottoman created an empire and that empire soon became one of the most powerful empires in the world. With that being said later on in 1939 1945 Turkish sided with the democratic western nations during and after World War II. Now switching from history over to geography, agriculture in Turkey is widely practiced in the Northwestern and the Southwestern of Turkey. Now you notice that the Eastern part of Turkey wasn t mentioned, that is because the Eastern parts of turkey are the most mountainous parts, which tells you that it s very difficult to practice agriculture there. Now a little more about mountains are that many peaks in Turkey exceed 10,000 feet at the least. Turkey s highest point is Mt. Ararat which peaks at 16,948 feet, which is very tall compared to the smaller ones. • 10. Burnout And Overtraining And Sport Psychology This week I read the chapter on Burnout and Overtraining and Children and Sport Psychology. I found this to be an interesting topic that many people do not consider. Due to the competitiveness of sports or a performance setting, people are encouraged to continue training and to not take time off. However, excessive training can lead to overtraining and burnout. This can then cause athletes to be more susceptible to injury, concerns in interpersonal relationships such as not having time to be with friends or added stress from parents, psychological concerns such as losing enjoyment for the activity, etc. That is why it is important to take time to prevent burnout from happening. I know for dance, my teacher always commented on how taking a week off from dance during the holidays can be helpful. This is because during the school year we were stressed with academics and in November/December we finished a stressful, busy season with Nutcracker performances. By the time of winter ... People may think taking breaks would be counterintuitive, but short breaks can be effective for athletes or performers. In addition, the chapter of Children and Sport Psychology discussed reasons children participate in sport but also reasons for why they drop out. Sequence can include any numbers of actions; however no actions can be missed or skipped in the sequence. The Role of Women in Doyle´s A Scandal in Bohemia Essay Doyle s A Scandal in Bohemia follows the story of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes on his adventures to retrieve a disgraceful photograph of Irene Adler and the King of Bohemia. The king, now engaged to a different woman, is fearful that Adler may use the photo as blackmail. In A Scandal in Bohemia, the apparent role of women is minuscule. The only female emphasis is on one woman, who is the object of Holmes detective inquiries. In A Scandal in Bohemia, society places women at a subordinate level, pushing them to the background and therefore never allowing the reader to fully understand their character. Watson describes women as second class citizens at the start of the story without directly saying so. Watson comments: My own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The King also fears the revelation of the scandalous photograph simply because it lies in the hands of a woman. His interests to dominate this woman, Irene Adler, are evident in the callous actions the King directs towards her. The King states, Five attempts have been made. Twice burglars in my pay ransacked her house. Once we diverted her luggage when she traveled. Twice she has been waylaid. There has been no result (218). This disdain and oblivion towards Adler s privacy leads one to reassess the King s motives. Is he actually interested in the photograph or do his actions focus solely on hurting Irene Adler? The King wants the upper hand on this beautiful, yet extremely intelligent woman. The King s attitude towards his future wife and his former lover, Irene Adler, fits into society s narrowly defined roles of women. In British Victorian society, women were the nurtures and the protectors of the children, and what some deemed as only monetarily valuable items. This female instinct to nurture is one stereotype that is greatly reflected in the personality of Irene Adler. Adler s willingness to help is a quality that Watson, as well as other men in society, felt all women should possess. Watson acknowledges this nurturing tendency when he says, but I know that I never felt more heartily ashamed of myself when I saw the beautiful creature against which I was conspiring, or the grace and kindliness with which she ... • 14. Migration And Racial Tension Of Australia Migration and racial tension I believe that the two topics that I have chosen relate to each other in many ways. The racial tension came from the migrating races to Australia, and the issues that the Australians of the time had with the new people . The migration occurred because there was a growing business in a new country, there were more opportunities for trade and everyone wanted to try their luck on the gold fields. I found the migrating story s from the Chinese to be more of an interesting theme. This is the same with the racial tension, the mass groups of Chinese were the main targets with the racism. Most migrants that came to Australia to grab a share of the gold rush, left behind family and home. In traditional Chinese culture this was particularly difficult for them to come from a parent s heavy focused family system, to an alien country to live. The Chinese people that came to Australia were typically men brining there family over with them to work for an income that would be big enough to support them. The wife however was left at home to forfill the role of looking after her in laws in this time. The family would have to work for them aswell, and send a percentage of there profit over. As the population of chinses immergents started to climb, they were starting to become apart of population statistics. • 16. Role Of Expiration Dates Of Yeast Sample Viability Role of Expiration Dates in Yeast Sample Viability Nasser Almoteb Kathryn Knackstedt 12/9/2015 Biology 2040, 1003 Abstract Yeasts consume organic compounds (e.g. sugar) to make ATP in a process called fermentation, creating ethanol and carbon dioxide. Dried yeast samples are in a quiescent state; that is, the yeast are in a state of arrested cell growth. Given the differing expiration dates of our yeast samples, we hypothesized that the yeast nearest to their expiration dates would take the longest to produce carbon dioxide. We used the gaseous carbon dioxide product of yeast s fermentation reaction to observe the length of time our yeast samples (with four different expiration dates) took to undergo fermentation, by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These organic compounds, such as sugars, are used by yeasts as reactants in a process called alcoholic fermentation. During alcoholic fermentation, yeast produces two ethanol molecules and two carbon dioxide (C02) molecules from one molecule of glucose; the equation for alcoholic fermentation is: C6H12O6 → 2 C2H5OH + 2 CO2. In our experiment, we used the gaseous property of CO2 at STP to measure the activity of alcoholic fermentation among store bought yeasts with different expiration dates in the presence of sugar. We hypothesized that the yeast nearer their expiration dates would rise more slowly, or not at all, when compared to the yeast that were farther from the expiration dates listed on their packages. This experiment is important, because yeasts are commonly used subjects of many scientific research studying genes, cell life cycles and responses; and, as such we need to understand how to determine and assure yeasts viability. (Gancedo, J. M.1998 and Váchová, L. et al., 2012) Methods To test our hypothesis that yeast closer to their printed expiration dates were less likely to undergo alcoholic fermentation than yeast farther from their printed expiration dates, we used store bought yeast with different expiration dates, meaning that our yeast varied in age. In addition, we tested our hypothesis using four bags of store bought yeast, each with different expiration dates. To observe whether each bag underwent fermentation, ... • 17. `` Handbook Of Christian Apologetics `` Essay Christian teachings have been challenged by unbelievers since the beginning of history. Today, because the new discoveries of science, the existence of God has been doubted even more, and as a consequence, society has become more selfish, self centered and self existent. Questions such as, Does God actually exist? Is there any evidence of his existence? Is it Christianity the only true religion? have been asked by believers and unbelievers through the past centuries. Two philosophers from Boston College, Peter Kreeft, and Ronald K. Tacelli, in their book Handbook of Christian Apologetics answer the most common questions about faith and reason, God s existence, Christ and other Christian doctrines. In Chapter 1, Kreeft and Tacelli talk about the importance and need for Apologetics. It importance comes, first, because with Apologetics we are able to give reasons for faith as an act of obedience to God. And secondly, because Apologetics is necessary to convince unbelievers and build up believers. Furthermore, apologetics is extremely needed today because we are living in a civil, cultural, intellectual crisis, and especially a spiritual one. Thus, we need truth and trough Apologetics, with faith and reason, we can find it. In Chapter 2, faith and reason are described as allies. They are interrelated. As faith is a subpart of reason, reason is a subclass of faith. Both of them are necessary for Apologetics, without faith and reason Apologetics is impossible. Faith and reason ... Social class inequality can be defined as the existence of socially created inequalities among and within classes. They can be attributed to various factors such as race, colour, ethnicity, gender, income, etc. It is arguable that inequalities that exist in post independence societies as well as the inequalities which exist between nations can be directly traced back to the exploitative capitalism which accompanied European colonialism. These questions were firstly, why did the socialist and social democratic political parties not band together against WWI? (Instead of support for their own countries). Secondly, why although the timing seemed right for a workers revolution in the west it did not take place? And lastly how did fascism take place in Europe at this time? • 19. The Importance Of Formative Assessment In The Classroom Incident two demonstrates a range of different assessment strategies which were used within the maths carousel lesson. The intentions and learning outcomes of this lesson were to explore and identify key concepts of division as well as being able to recall prior knowledge to help the children with their comprehension of the topic which would continue throughout the week. The learning objectives were outlined at the beginning of the lesson to the children to ensure that they understood what was expected ofthem and so they would be able to reflect upon these throughout the lesson (Williams and Cliffe, 2011). Formative assessment, which was used to help improve teaching and learning, can be viewed as an effective way to determine and improve the quality of learning within the classroom (Black and Wiliam, 2009). However, it could be argued that formative assessment is infrequently used within the classroom, suggesting that summative assessment is the focus within education, as it helps to capture accurate results which can be compared against a specific standard (Graham et al., 2017) (Marsh, 2007). This is also exemplified in the work undertaken by Yan and Cheng (2015) as they state that some teachers may give up on the adoption of formative assessment due to short time frames and the pressures of summative examinations. William and Black (1996), Torrance and Pryor (2001) and Taras (2008) observe that formative assessment eventually leads into summative assessment, as learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Reaction Of The Maillard Reaction Introduction The non enzymatic reaction of reducing sugars with amino groups of amino acids, peptides and proteins is called as non enzymatic glycosylation or simply glycation. This non enzymatic reaction ultimately results in the formation of complex brown pigments and protein protein crosslinks that were first studied under defined conditions by Maillard in the early 1900s (Maillard and Gautier, 1912) and the reaction came to known as the Maillard reaction. There is a condensation reaction between reducing sugar and free amino acids at the amino terminus or susceptible ε amino group of lysine residues of proteins producing labile N substituted glycosylamine (Schiff base) that may undergo two sequential rearrangements, forming a stable Amadori product (Fayle Gerrard, 2002). The reducing sugars namely, glucose, fructose, galactose, mannose, ribose and certain carbohydrate relatives are inherently reactive toward nucleophilic groups. Glucose is the least reactive among common sugars because it exists in least concentration in the open chain form (Paulsen and Pflughaupt, 1980). Amadori rearrangement was a key early step in the Maillard reaction (Hodge, 1955). Early glycation directs the formation of Schiff s bases and Amadori products that further oxidized to advanced glycated end products (AGEs) (Chetyrkin et al., 2008). Studies have shown that the glycation process (in the early stage where the interaction of sugars, such as glucose, with free amino groups of lysine and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While I definitely think that it is up to the former White working class to dig themselves out, I m unsure that they re the ones responsible for this mess. Loosing their jobs to outsourcing and loosing their sense of hope has led them to follow Donald Trump s campaign because he sympathizes with them and promises them economic and social changes. Whereas in Porter the closest beach is about an hour away. Locals in Porter have to travel out of the city in order to do anything. Luckily Houston is very close by. Here many events are held like professional soccer games in the BBVA compass stadium. In downtown the Houston Texans, a football team, play in the NRG stadium. As can be seen, Fort Myers and Porter are two amazing cities. It is difficult to decide which city is better. Both cities are very different from one another. Yet they have similarities that can be used to compare each other. Some people might prefer a city that is calmer like Porter, but others might like to go to the beach in the middle of winter. Above all, its specific properties have not yet been fully exploited, which can be partially attributed to a shortage of easily available statistical methods in the past and a lack of awareness on the side of the researchers. In the following sections we will first discuss the properties of various measurement scales and subsequently focus on the continuous rating scale in online surveys in more detail. Sub3 sequently we discuss the problem of outliers and nonsense data in survey research and apply classical and robust factor analysis to our data sample. Finally, we simulate the occurrence of outliers („noise‟) in our data set and illustrate how different levels of noise impact the results of factor analytic procedures. Measurement Scaling The usage of surveys in IS research has been heavily criticized in the past for lack of psychometric rigor and appropriate modeling techniques. In order to remedy this problem, general standards for conducting surveys have to be improved and constantly questioned (Pinsonneault Kraemer, 1993; Newsted et al., 1996). When constructing a questionnaire, researchers are confronted with the task of finding an appropriate scale to measure the construct(s) under investigation. Usually this is done by consulting previous literature and adopting a set of items which has been previously tested for validity and reliability. A

Two dish towels soaked red, to be exact. My mind was in a haze. Somewhere in that pool of blood lay my two front teeth. I was just an innocent, curly haired little girl when God decided to throw an event at me that would change my life forever. First grade, just a couple weeks after my permanent teeth had grown in. Lunch was going as normal: we ate, cleaned, and played. We formed a line of competitive little kids, ready to race our scooters. Small mats were stacked on top of them, for added comfort, I suppose. Little did I know the disaster that would make an impact on my life forever, was only seconds away. Luckily, my Aunt Suzanne and Uncle Chad were on lunch duty that day. About half way through the race, the mat on my scooter slid off, catching the front wheels and making the scooter tip forwards. From this point, the story becomes slightly unclear to me. • 38. The Development And Constant Change Of Infants Essay The development and constant change of infants is mind blowing and incredible. Each infant develops at approximately the same, quick pace, but each small life in the grand scheme of infant development could vary greatly (Santrock, 2016). There are many different factors that must be considered in the first years of life that are extremely crucial for development and change. In order to better understand infant development, it is important to consider how each of these factors will affect the baby; three examples of these factors are sleep patterns, eating habits, and motor development, all which impact the general health of the infant overall. It is relatively general knowledge that infants tend to sleep much more than the average child, adult, or adolescent. My virtual child, Margo, in between three and eight months, was sleeping six hours out of the night, and taking a few two hour naps during the day, consistently sleeping about 12 hours per day (My Virtual Child, 2014). The average amount of sleep that an infant will get on any given night is anywhere in between ten to twenty one hours per day (Santrock, 2016). Based on this knowledge, it can be concluded that Margo s sleeping habits are not necessarily abnormal for her age. Margo was also strictly breastfed. In the study Infant Sleep Development from 3 to 6 Months Postpartum: Links with Maternal Sleep and Paternal Involvement, it was stated that there was correlation between infants that were strictly breastfed at ... What many of them do not realize however is the effects it can have on their body s development. Sleep is seen as unnecessary or even pointless to many young children, but as they get older, their appreciation for the act becomes widely apparent. Lots of educational systems all over the country still start school at a time earlier than 8 o clock in the morning. The developing students who have to wake up at such an early time don t realize that they shouldn t have to wake up so early in the morning, and that is because their bodies simply don t function properly at a certain time and with a lack of sleep. The oxidative stress can cause cell damage, resulting in inflammation, which has also been found to be a major contributor to disease progression of GM2 gangliosidosis [17]. In this study, we identified elevation in glutathione pathways, which plays a pivotal role in responses to oxidative stress. Another evidence of inflammation is reduced levels of arachidonic acid, an omega 6 fatty acid, in brain samples of SD mice. Oxidation of arachidonic acid can generate leukotrienes, a family of eicosanoid inflammatory mediators produced in leukocytes, and thus promote inflammation. The increased energy requirements can also activate autophagy and protein catabolism, which have been found in MPS I and MPS VII mice [13]. In this study, we found increased levels of amino acids, amino acid derivatives and dipeptides, indicating increased protein catabolism. Increased requirements of energy and raw materials can also activate lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism, manifested by decreased adiposity, a common observation in many lysosomal diseases [18 20]. In addition, the enlarged lysosome and distended cells due to abnormal accumulation requires increased membrane synthesis, which can also affect lipid metabolism. Our previous proteomic analysis [21] also identified abnormality in the cytoskeleton system, which can be partially attributed to altered cellular architecture due to storage accumulation. It is a concrete weighing substantially less than that is made using gravel or crushed stone aggregates. Lightweight aggregate concrete is usually chosen for structural purposes which its use will lead to a lower overall cost of structure than will be expected with normal weight concrete. To test how water potential, in a solution, affects the movement of water in and out of a cell by osmosis Prediction I predict that by increasing the water potential around the outside of the potato cell, (i.e. so that the water potential is greater outside the cell compared to the inside of the cell e.g. 0m sucrose) that the net movement of water into the cell will increase. This is due to the water potential being greater outside the cell compared to the inside of the cell, therefore water will diffuse into the cell by a process of osmosis. The opposite however will occur when the water potential outside the cell is lower than that inside the cell (i.e. with hypotonic solutions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I can do this by following two steps.(1). Firstly I can work out the concentration of sucrose in the potato by reading of my graph were the %change in mass is 0, as this shows that at this point there is no net movement of water hence the two areas have equal solute potentials. (In this case the morality of the potato is 0.14m.) (2). I can then use this to work out the solute potential of the potato by using the below graph, which was made from information from data sheets, showing the solute potential at different moralities. The graph shows that as you increase the sucrose concentration of the solution surrounding a potato,(hence making the solution Hypotonic)that the net movement of water out of the cell increase. This is represented by the downwards sloping curve of the graph and is due to the increased solute potential of the surroundings meaning that there is more solute in the solution; hence more solutes form bonds with water molecules meaning that the water molecules are no longer free to move or they move more slowly. As a result of this the water enters the solute solution faster than water leaves the solute i.e. there is a net water movement out of the cell through the (permeable) membrane . This is not true however before 0.14m concentration of solution as the solute concentration is greater in the cell and therefore water enters the cell by a process of ...
