Madame Bovary Style Analysis
A day of a common doctor, Charles Bovary, is described in Gustave Flaubert s passage from Madame
Bovary. The author uses great detail to show the reader the typical house call in 1902. Due to this
detail, the author establishes the tones of calmness and intensity. Throughout the passage from
Madame Bovary, the tones established through detail, imagery and figurative language reveal the
character of Charles to the reader. The detail in the beginning of the passage allows the reader to feel a
serene and calm tone. The woman with the blue dress with three flounces welcomes Charles into her
home with a big open fire , just as the first rays of sun peaks through the windows. This allows the
reader to feel the serenity of a typical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also shows Charle s attentiveness and attention to detail. In the moments of calm, after the man s
fracture had been dealt with and healed, Charles takes a moment to really study Mademoiselle Emma
s eyes and hands. The imagery in this section makes it possible for the reader to see Emma as Charles
sees her and to understand the quiet peacefulness of the section. Flaubert also establishes an intense
tone in his passage. When Charles first meets the patient sweating under the blanket and cursing , he
sees a large decanter of brandy that the patient had been drinking to dull the pain and remain strong .
The pain was so overwhelming for the patient that he had to drink to overcome the pain and curse to
gain strength. This provides an intense tone because the reader senses the pain the man is in from the
descriptions of the man, and his surroundings. Charles realizes that the finest thing about her was her
eyes, the way that they draw him in and appear black under the long eyelashes and have a fearless
candor to them. The detail here represents an intensity shown between Charles and Mademoiselle
Emma because Charles in drawn in by the deep darkness of Emma s eyes and finds them intriguing
dark and beautiful. Charles also realizes that even

Weezer s Return
There are two things you will inevitably hear about Weezer s new album, Everything Will Be Alright
in the End: the first is that that it is a return to form, and the second is that Weezer is finally back,
baby. Neither of these things is necessarily true; allow me to explain. EWBAITE is less a return to
form and more a sum of all parts record, successfully touching on their entire discography. From the
crunchy garage rock of their first self titled albums to the rockin solos of Maladroit and, yes, even the
unfortunate cheese of Raditude, it s all here it in the band s attempt at a definitive 41 minutes of rock
music. Technically, Weezer isn t back because, well, they never left. Love em or hate em, Weezer has

Hunger Games In The Hunger Game
Peeta asked to be coached separately because he probably doesn t want Katniss to know his weakness,
he wants to be in the game separately. They might have to fight each other if they cross path or if they

weakness. They are from the same district, but if they have to kill each other they will. Before the
hunger game they will act like your friend so you will be an easy target. In the hunger game, it is kill or

person the whole game. To dodge different players from thinking your a simple target don t let out a
solitary tear or cry. Another thing to do is not to make yourself look powerless or down.If you cry the
others will realize that you re not center to the game. Some players know when you have fear.I trust the

Reason to Listen: As you will soon see, Iceland is full of beautiful scenery and natural wonders that
everyone should have the chance to see at least once in their lifetime.
Speaker Credibility: While reading an article from The Telegraph, I came across the astonishing truth
of just how popular of a tourist attraction Iceland is. Morris (2016) stated in his article that 2016 will
mark the first time that the total number of American tourists will be greater than the number of
Icelandic residents . After reading that I knew I wanted to research more about the culture of Iceland
and find out why it is such a popular tourist spot.
Thesis Statement: Today, we will be informing everyone about the unique culture of Iceland.
Preview Main Points: We will be discussing Icelandic geography, common leisurely activities, food,
and century old traditions.

Good Samaritan Law Vs Good Samaritans
In the U.S. there is no law requiring someone to come to the aid of another person or to help them in a
time of distress. The two articles, If Decency Doesn t, Law Should Make Us Samaritans and Good
Samaritans U.S.A. Are Afraid to Act shine a light on the controversial topic: The Good Samaritan
Law. Although the writers of both articles are talking about the same topic, they both have different
opinions. In the first article, the writer believes that America should have a Good Samaritan Law and
as Americans we should be ashamed of not having such a law. In the second article, the writer believes
that Americans are scared to come to the aid of someone because they fear for their safety and the risk
of being sued. In If Decency Doesn t,

The Great Achilles
The Great Achilles, great for his passion, skills in the art of war, however, something eerily stands of
in his almost dominating, charismatic character. His wrath is that of none. The merciless Achilles,
why? Why would the poet choose to focus on the wrath of Achilles more than anything in The Illiad?
From his apparent distain towards Agamemnon, to his seething anger towards the Gods, leading to the
gut wrenching revenge inflicted upon Hector, it is clear as day that Achilles s wrath is one of the most
highlighted attributes of any character in English language today. You may feel as though your
personal pride and ego play apart in your daily lives, as for the feud between Achilles and
Agamemnon, one could argue they wouldn t inhale a single breathe not being in the name of their
honor. A true power struggle between a warrior capable of all out demolition of armies of the greatest
of warriors, versus the powerful king, who may deploy him at the drop of a hat. The feud going as far
as Agamemnon stealing Achilles s beloved slave girl, as Agamemnon states , And now my prize you

The Pursuit Of Weapon Of Mass Destruction
Terrorism poses a serious threat to the security of every nation; a worldwide problem that doesn t
recognize borders, nationality, or religion. These Non State Actors (NSA s), entities engaging in
international operations without the authority of an established nation are always looking for a better
way to further their agenda. One of these ways is through the pursuit of Weapons of Mass Destruction
(WMD). Most isotopes that can be utilized to create an operational device are easily tracked due to
their radioactive signature, and the technology is rare making it difficult to acquire a feasible nuclear
program. The next best thing is to instill fear and panic, is chemical and Biological weapons. The only
way to deter these actions is to actively monitor precursor, sources, and the organizations and groups

Historical Development of Law Enforcement Essays
Since 27 B.C. law enforcement has been used by humans as a means to defend property and keep
peace. Law enforcement has been changing ever since it was created. It will keep changing for the
greater good of the community as long is there is a continual need for law enforcement.
According to REAL POLICE. (N.D.) Para 5, the first organized police force was created by the great
nephew of Julius Caesar, Gaius Octavius in 27 B.C. These men were called Vigiles. The Vigiles were
armed with wooden clubs and small swords. They were formed to perform two duties, fight fires in
the city and arrest law breakers. The prefect of the Vigiles became a powerful man. He had the ability
to judge and sentence lawbreakers.

New York used bells to communicate with other officers out of voice range. There were ten different
bell codes used by the New York police. Also, New York replaced drafted citizens with paid watch
standers in 1658. REAL POLICE. (N.D.).
Research by Schmalleger (2005) shows that in 1829, the world s first modern police force was
formed. Sir Robert Peel selected 1,000 men to wear a uniform and patrol the streets. These uniformed
men were called Bobbies. The new police were founded on two principles, one, belief that it was
possible to discourage crime, and two, practice of preventive patrol. To this day, Bobbies still patrol
the streets of England.
Law enforcement was almost non existent in the American West during the late 1800 s and early 1900
s. Outlaws ruled the land with few worries about law enforcement. Only the bravest men would
attempt to police the west. Some of these brave men were self appointed law men, men like Charles
Lynch, a former Virginia farmer, and Wyatt Earp. These brave men were called Vigilantes and they
tracked down criminals in the west. With out them the west would have been to violent for the
expansion of the country. Schmalleger (2005).
Women began involvement with police work in 1845. They were assigned as matrons in the New York
Police Department. In 1893, the Mayor of Chicago appointed Marie Owens as the first woman to have
the title policeman . She was a widow of a Chicago police

area. The company is still 10cated at its original site. Inner City is a small company that manufactures
wall paint. It does not compete with giants such as Glidden and DuPont. There are small paint
manufacturers in Chicago that supply the immediate area. The proliferation of paint manufacturers is
due to the fact that the weight of the product (52 12 pounds per 5 gallon container) makes the cost of

Color overruns are tapped off into 2 gallon containers. Inventory records are not kept. The warehouse
manager keeps a mental count of what is in stock. He documents (on a lined yellow pad) what has
been shipped for the day and to whom. That list is given to the billing clerk at the end of each day. The
cost of the materials to produce flat white paint is $2.40 per gallon. The cost per gallon for colors is
approximately 40% 50% higher. The 5 gallon covered plastic pails cost Inner City $1.72 each. The 55
gallon drums (with lids) are $8.35 each. (see Exhibit 1). Selling price varies with the quantity
purchased. To the average customer, flat white sells at $27.45 for 5 gallons and $182.75 for 55
gallons. Colors vary in selling price because of the variety in pigment cost and quantity ordered.
Customers purchase on credit and usually pay their invoices in 30 to 60 days. Inner City telephones
the customer after 60 days of nonpayment and inquires when payment will be made.
MANAGEMENT The President and majority stockholder is Stanley Walsh. He began his career as a
house painter and advanced to become a painter for a large decorating company. Walsh painted mostly
walls in large commercial buildings and hospitals. Eventually, he came to believe that he could
produce a paint that was less expensive and of higher quality than what was being used. A keen desire
to open his own business resulted in the creation of Inner City Paint Corporation.

National Literacy Crusade Of 1980 Essay
The Sandinistas National Literacy Crusade of 1980 (CNA) significantly reduced the rate of illiteracy
in Nicaragua from an estimated forty three percent to twelve percent. Improvements to the literacy
rate were short lived. The instability of Nicaragua under the Sandinistas (1979 1990) effectively froze
state sponsored education programs, minimizing the potential of educational efforts after the 1980
campaign. The weakened Sandinista government, as well as inadequate preparation of post CNA
teachers, allowed the newly literate to lose their literacy. Although the campaign failed to permanently
reduce illiteracy, it did serve as a catalyst for a new brand of Nicaraguan nationalism amongst young
Nicaraguans who served as volunteer teachers. The campaign allowed women to transcend the
traditional social and hierarchical boundaries of Nicaraguan society. Women assumed positions of
authority as teachers, challenging the historically patriarchal norms of Nicaraguan culture.
Introduction

Liberacíon Nacional (FSLN) and their allies seized Managua and with it the seat of Nicaragua s
government. The deposition of the Anastasio Somoza Debayle marked the end of a four decades long

Articles Of Confederation Issue Analysis
After the Revolutionary war, the 13 colonies needed a government and they approved The Articles of
Confederation which was the first federal government that was approved by Congress in 1777 in
Philadelphia and was formally ratified and put in effect in 1781 (Keene, Cornell, O Donnell, 2013).
The issues that the raised from the Articles of Confederation was the distribution of power, instead of
giving too much power to central government like Britain, the founders decided to place the sovereign
power on the hands of the states. Also, they did not have national court system to impose laws that
were approved by government, and did not have a President.

How Did Woody Indians Influence Society In The 1930 s
If I walked up to a person today they most likely wouldn t know who John Steinbeck, Will Rogers or
Woody Guthrie is. In the 1930s, this was a different story. Everybody knew who they were in the 30 s.
Steinbeck, Guthrie, and Rogers were famous for their work considering the Great Depression. The
Great Depression was caused by the Stock Market Crash of 1929. Will Rogers, Woody Guthrie, and
John Steinbeck all influenced society in the 30 s by providing a means of diversion for the common
man.
In the 1930 s the people of America turned to John Steinbeck to understand and relate to the hardships
of the Depression. John Steinbeck was most famous for writing Of Mice and Men which references
the Great Depression. Another one of his novels is about the Great Depression, it is called The Grapes
of Wrath. The Grapes of Wrath was about the lack of jobs, food, and money in Oklahoma. The trials
that the people went through were scary. People from all over the country read The Grapes of Wrath.
The Story of Oklahoma states that sophisticated New Yorkers had heard about Okies, and many had

Impacts Of Coal Mining On The Environment
Coal mining can have seriously adverse environmental and related impacts, including interference
with groundwater quantity and quality, land subsidence, impacts on river flows and consequential
impact on other land uses, issues associated with mining wastes disposal, creation of geological
hazards . . . and potential ecological havoc (Bian et al., The Impact of Disposal and Treatment of Coal
Mining Wastes on Environment and Farmland 1). Coal, a commodity that the world depends on as a
vital economic player and energy resource, is extracted from the ground at a very costly price to the
environment. It is a major energy source that provides about 40% of the electricity that the world
consumes, and the consumption of coal has grown dramatically in recent years. Not only is coal a
major energy producer, but it is also a vital player in many countries economies, employing millions
across the world both directly and indirectly. Unfortunately, since coal is so important to the economy
and energy production, there is often little regard for the impacts that it has on the environment when
being extracted. In broad a generalization, coal mining techniques can be broken down into two
categories: surface mining and underground mining (the first involving techniques that stay above
ground and the latter using tunneling). Although environmental implications may vary slightly
between the two methods of coal extraction, there are a number of issues that are the result of both

Coaching Track Essay
Coaching Track Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a successful track coach and
coach your protégés to a successful season? Through job shadowing, personal experience, and
research, I have found out just how much hard work goes into coaching. Of the more than twenty
million Americans who are running today, most who start do so for the wrong reasons, with the wrong
attitude, and tend to lose interest after a few weeks or months. Many quit. This is usually because they
become concerned with superficial goals such as time and distance and never discover the more
profound mental benefits that running offers. (Lilliefors 15) To be a successful coach, the first thing a
coach has to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

need to work on the speed aspect of running, while you already have that part down. You might need
to work on the form aspect of running, and he has that down. So why would you guys be doing the
same workout, when it would only benefit one of you (Washington). Not only does a coach prepare
athletes body but also their minds. A coach prepares the athletes mind by getting them to think about
what they are going to be doing before there event comes up. If one were to look at Maurice Green
before a race, one would notice that he is very concentrated and thinking about what he needs to do to
win. Another example of that would be football or basketball players. Before the game, each athlete
has his or her own ritual before game time. That concentration is called getting in the zone. What I do
know is how to get you in the best shape of your life so that you ll be stronger and more explosive
than you ve ever been. I can also help you prepare your mind for competition (Connolly 14). When
one becomes a track coach, one has to make many important decisions concerning their athletes.
When accessing an athlete, the coach will have to decide what events will work best for the athlete,
and the team. If an athlete gets injured, the coach will have to decide whether or not the athlete should

Social Media s Effect On Society
People live in a world today where most communication takes place through a technological mediator.
One of the most common forms of these mediators is social media. According to an article by Patricia
Reaney, 62% of the population of 26 countries, including; the United States of America, Russia,
Japan, Indonesia, and South Africa use social media. That means that more than half of everyone in
some of the biggest countries in the world uses social media. The United States alone has over 300
million people, 62% of that being 186 million people. Anything that is part of the livelihood of that
many people should be looked farther into for any hidden dangers or benefits. How does this much
impersonal conversation affect what people s real world interactions are? How does it change their
mental thought processes? From message boards and private Skype calls to public posts and forums,
how do all of these affect everyone? There is no inherent good or bad to social media s affect on
everyone, it is purely situational and what people themselves make it to be. What exactly is social
media? The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines social media as: Forms of electronic communication
(as Web sites for social networking and micro blogging) through which users create online
communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos). Social
media is a very large family of applications and websites that all accomplish this same goal. It harbors

entire time while receiving treatment in the emergency room, whether being a true emergent situation

that some transvestites will expose themselves more than others with the possibility of having
psychological problems. Most transvestites hide their fetish with the probability of embarrassment if
revealed. Depending on the level of exposure will make a significant difference on the plan of care
and the medical staff involved. Conclusion Vulnerable populations like transvestites maintain their
solitude among themselves or hidden within private communities. Acceptance of this lifestyle is a
slow intergrading process within today s society. The

Differences Between Sea Oats And Camphorweed
On the Cabretta beach dunes, there is an abundance of vegetation that encompasses the area of the
quadrant for each stop. The most plant diversity of one stop, was observed in a swale (Dune Stop 2),
with weed oats, wax myrtle, rushes, and dog fennel. These four plants solely appeared in the swale.
Sea oats and camphorweed were the most abundant plant types in the dunes; additionally, sea oats and
camphorweed can be found in multiple dune environments. Sea oats were found in dune crests,
between two troughs, and in the fore dune, having most abundance in the crests, while camphorweed
was found in inter dune meadows, between two troughs, and in the fore dune, having most abundance
in the inter dune meadows (Figure ). These two plants displayed significant height differences in
various dune territories. In the crest, sea oats measured at a height of 105cm, but as they grow closer
to the ocean, they increase by ~63cm. As for camphorweeds, they grew to be roughly 60cm in the
inter dune meadows and fore dune; however, in between the two troughs, the plant stood at an average

Issue on Marijuana Essay example
Legalization of Marijuana in the United States is an ongoing topic that has been going on for several
years. There are vast majority of Americans who are for this move and against this move. While each
side has several good arguments to defend their case, neither one has a distinct advantage over the
other. I will be going over several arguments or point of views as well will have several facts about the
effects of Marijuana whether it is good or bad.
Marijuana is a very prominent and controversial issue in society today. Many people are under the
assumption that Marijuana is a harmful drug and receive heavy criticism because of stereotypical view
people have on pot smokers or pot heads. However it is a well know fact that people ... Show more

It has also proven to be able to bring in a substantial amount of revenue for certain states. However
Marijuana does have its negative effects on the human body. Marijuana causes physical effects which
includes increased heart and pulse rate, bloodshot eyes, and dry throat and mouth. Studies have shown
that the earlier age people decide to use marijuana the more likely they will experiment with other
drugs, and lose interest and are unmotivated to do any kind of schoolwork. It decreases your ability to
drive by slowing down your ability to think properly and slows down you reflexes. Studies have also
determined after long continued use individuals can become burnt out which makes the individual
dull, slow moving, and inattentive.
Marijuana has its pro s but it also has its cons. In its entirety it s an individual s opinion on whether or
not it s good for society. To this day there have been several determinations about the legalization of
Marijuana in the United States, and the causes and effects it has on society. Mendocino County is
known for growing Marijuana in the state of California and is legal for the most part due to the
medical use. Cartels however are using this to their advantage and are growing weed within the county
to grow Marijuana on their own. Last week the DEA has confiscated over $800 million worth of pot.

Informative Essay On Black Tea
Over the years, coffee has been termed to be harmful to health, and more people have turned to tea.
Globally, tea is the second most commonly consumed beverage after water, with black tea constituting
75 percent. All tea originates from the herb Camellia sinensis. Despite a lot of criticism surrounding
caffeinated drinks, when it comes to black tea, it might be a healthy choice as some studies have
shown.
Black tea is made through withering, rolling and fully oxidizing the leaves. Before the final heating
process, black tea leaves are fermented. It contains caffeine, polyphenols, amino acids, fluoride,
carbohydrates, manganese, proteins, potassium, xanthine, guanine, and trace minerals. It also contains
tannins that give it astringency and catechins which are powerful antioxidants that destroy cancer
causing cells and prevent cardiovascular diseases.
There are various health benefits that are associated with taking black tea regularly due to the presence
of multiple polyphenols and antioxidants. Black tea contains explicitly complex flavonoids
polyphenols that assist in preventing diseases. Theaflavin and thearubigin are among the flavonoid
that acts as strong antioxidants. Thearubigin gives black tea its red color. Studies have shown that
thearubigins benefit the mind and body in various ways. To harness the power of black tea, researchers
advise that, milk or sugar should not be added.

Alcohol Vs Alcohol Research Paper
What is More Dangerous, Marijuana or Alcohol?
In recent times, marijuana has slowly become less and less of a taboo subject. The gradual legalization
has made marijuana a hot topic, both for its recreational uses and medicinal properties. The biggest
questions that remain are, is it dangerous and is it more dangerous than alcohol? Given the length of
time that alcohol has been legal most people would assume that it is the safer option, but is that true?
Risk from Alcohol
While alcohol may be readily available to anyone over the age of 21, it still comes with risk both to
your judgment and health. According to the CDC, excessive alcohol consumption leads to around
88,000 deaths annually. Alcohol consumption comes with both long term and short term effects on a
person, such as:
Impairment of judgment leading to injuries from motor vehicle accidents, drowning, falls and physical
instability.
People who are under the influence of alcohol may become violent, which has led to murder, assault
and sexual assault.

However, this comes to a climax in this passage as Big Daddy s imminent death is confirmed and the
question of the heir to the estate becomes an important issue. The Oxford Companion to American

Why Scarlet and Lavender?
In the book Switched at Birthday, the two main characters, Lavender and Scarlet, both have somewhat
uncommon names. Usually, names of a character don t really have any significant meaning, but in this
case, the author, Natalie Standiford, might have named Lavender and Scarlet based on their
personalities.
Uniquely, both girls have a name that is also a color. Scarlet is a type of red, and Lavender is a type of
purple. But this detail doesn t seem like a silly little coincidence if you think about it, both girls seem
to match their names. For example, Lavender has a sort of purplish personality, just like her name. The
color lavender is basically a grayish purple, which gives it a kind of moody

If we allow the sport to go on without helmets then eventually we will have an NFL situation on our

physical sport of football, but that should not be the case. This is why women must have more
protection when playing lacrosse. Checking, concussions, and helmets are all major reasons to supply
this gear. Before one can deem women s lacrosse as dangerous, they must understand the overall

rules on checking are quite easy to understand, but they are in great depth. Field players may pass,

from an opponent s crosse with a check. A check is a controlled tap with a crosse on an opponent s

The Love Experience In The Story Of A Love Story
I know, I know, everybody writes about a love story. However, this one wasn t a love story from the
beginning. We all seem to be in search of that special someone , or so they call it. In my experience, it
never works through seeking a person out. Ask any married couple that has been together for a while
if they found each other by searching for their type . It usually doesn t work that way, love is usually
accidental. I, being a prime example of how it starts, will share my story with you.
Every year, I go to a church camp with my youth group. This is the world s largest baptist church
camp, by the name of Falls Creek. What would usually happen outside of Tabernacle would be me and
Tyler Hope hanging out and doing the things the camp had to offer. For the most part, that is what
happened on that Monday. Then came Tuesday, the 30th of June, 2015. The day ensued as it normally
would any other year: breakfast, morning bible study, small groups, lunch, large groups, dinner, and
Tabernacle. However, things changed after that. I exited the sanctuary to go find Tyler, then I got
distracted. Now, being the little comic book freak that I am, the thing that distracted me was a Batman
hat. Of course there was a person under the hat, so I decided to talk to her. Deciding that this will be
my new friend, based solely on her taste in hats, I said what any 15 year old kid would say. I said,
Hey, I like your hat. (What? Were you expecting some clever line about hats?) After that, I

The Importance Of Love In Just Kids By Patti Smith
For being different, easy. But to be unique, it s a complicated thing, said Lady Gaga. As a young child,
I have always been different but creative. My vigorous thirst of art making fostered by attending the
Langley Fine Arts School and all women s college Moore College of Art and Design. This might
sound atypical to any other story of a young artist, but I am going to explain why my story is unique.
A friend once said to me An artist sees the world in a different way. It was uncanny to hear this
because I have only known the world through my artist eyes. My story is different because my first
love was unique. Do you remember your first love? Why is your first love, so different from all the
other loves? It s because it s your first. It s that love that you can never let go because it was built on
friendship, laughter, and connection. My first love was an unrequited love, when I was eleven years
old for a gay boy. At the time I assumed nothing of it because I was just being a kid. This story is akin
to Patti Smith, author of the remarkable novel Just Kids. This honest story that tells the tale of two
friends, soul mates, roommates, lovers, and muses. Patti Smith speaks about her relationship with
Robert Mapplethorpe, a young gay photographer. This extraordinary novel reveals how Patti Smith
saw the world; how through her youthful eyes, she thought Mapplethorpe was her creative soul mate.

The Concept Of Modernity, And Charles Baudelaire And Karl...
Modernity is the dynamic relationship between culture, polity, society and economy. Even though
each of these concepts of modernity are often followed in a relatively autonomous path of
development, these institutional realms is usually influenced by each other (Madsen, 2002). Two
modern philosophers who introduce the concept of modernity are Charles Baudelaire and Karl Marx.
On the one hand, Charles Baudelaire explores modernity through the notion of a strange man. The
strange man follows dandyism as a philosophy of life against uncertainty. Modernity is described as a
desired quality of dandyism, whose mysterious institution creates a new reality of being (Baudelaire,
1995). On the other hand, Karl Marx identifies modernity in the rise of the bourgeoisie epoch,
suggesting a cosmopolitan freedom. Similarly to dandyism, cosmopolitan freedom strives for the
limitation of uncertainty and the creation of an insensitive reality (Marx Engels,2008). However,
modernity is condemned to failure since uncertainty is a part of human nature. Therefore, uncertainty
cannot be removed from the human condition. Nevertheless, this discussion will argue that the real
problem with modernity is its exploitation of freedom and its misunderstanding around the concept of
ambivalence. If modernity embraces intellectual ambivalence, then humanity will find true freedom.
Charles Baudelaire explores the concept of modernity through the notion of a strange man
(Baudelaire, 1995, p.5). In The

The Three Goddesses In The Trojan War
The Trojan War was ultimately caused by a petty conflict between three Goddesses Aphrodite, Pallas
Athena, and Hera. While attending a party they discovered a golden apple with the words for the
fairest carved in it. They all believed themselves to be the fairest, so to determine who would get the
apple they needed a judge. Their first choice was Zeus, but he wisely declined, and instead, pointed
them in the direction of Mount. Ida near Troy, where Prince Paris an excellent judge of beauty was
doing shepherd s work. The three went to Paris, but instead of having him look at them to choose the
prettiest, they all offered him a bribe and told him to choose the Goddess who offered the best thing
(248). Hera promised to make him an Emperor of Europe and Asia. Athena said that he would lead the
Trojans to victory against the Greeks. Aphrodite promised him the love of the fairest mortal on Earth.
Although it was not an easy decision for him, Paris chose love and gave the golden apple to
Aphrodite. This decision is what is said to be the cause of the long and famous Trojan War (249).

Analysis Of The Novel Asterios Polyp Color
Color is commonly used in various art forms as a way to represent feeling and symbolize a greater
meaning than a written text or black and white shading could. In David Mazzucchelli s graphic novel
Asterios Polyp color is used to express both emotion and time through his use of the printer primary
colors, cyan, magenta and yellow. Because of Mazzuccehlli s use of color and the abstract form of his
comic panels, his comic is considered an alternative comic. Breaking the barriers of what readers are
familiar with when it comes to the aesthetics of a comic, while at the same time being able to make it
not seem vastly unfamiliar. Asterios Polyp takes the reader to a whole other world as they are
navigated through the mind and memories of Asterios by narration from his dead twin brother. Similar
to Mazzuccehlli, Paul Thomas Anderson incorporates meaning through color in his film Punch Drunk
Love (2002). In this essay I will compare the use of color in both Asterios Polyp and Punch Drunk
Love with regards to its significance in both, and how form is used to express both emotion and time.
With regards to form, I will focus on the Mazzuccehlli s eccentric panel distribution and the variation
of space in between the panels, which separates it from most comics. Anderson s film alike separates
itself from the classic romantic movie form through both its plotline and cinematography. Had either
Mazzuccehlli or Anderson not incorporated the symbolism of color within their works, I feel

weather is symbolic of the mood in the novel. Fitzgerald uses the rainy weather in this novel to
symbolize several things. For example, on the day that Gatsby plans to meet with Daisy, it is raining
before they meet. The day agreed upon was pouring rain. At eleven o clock a man in a raincoat
dragging a lawn mower tapped at my front door and said that Mr. Gatsby had sent him over to cut my
grass. (Fitzgerald 88). In this situation, the rain represents an anxious and hopelessness mood. When
Gatsby arrived at Nick s house, he begins to doubt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next day was broiling, almost the last, certainly the warmest, of the summer. As my train emerged
from the tunnel into the sunlight, only the hot whistles of the National Biscuit Company broke the
simmering hush at noon. The straw seats of the car hovered on the edge of combustion; the woman
next to me perspired delicately for a while into her white shirtwaist and then, as her newspaper
dampened under her fingers, lapsed despairingly into the deep heat with a desolate cry (120 121). This
symbolizes the upcoming conflict and foreshadows the climax of emotions that are to come, with the
confrontation in the suite, Daisy s rejection, and Myrtle s death. The heat also shows the mix and
confusion of emotions in Daisy, and Daisy recognizes that ... it s so hot ... And everything s so
confused ... (125). This quote symbolizes Daisy and Gatsby s relationship. It is when the weather is at
it s hottest that Gatsby s and Daisy s relationship reaches a climax. Also when Nick, Gatsby, Daisy,
Jordan, and Tom are all sitting in the Plaza, the book describes the daytime to also be unbearably hot.
Oh, let s have fun, she begged him. It s too hot to fuss. He didn t answer (126). This quote shows that
as the weather progressively gets hotter so does the tempers of Gatsby and Tom. The heat, in this case,
symbolizes the way that hatred between Daisy s husband and Gatsby

Buddhism s Life Changing Experience
Buddhism Buddhism is a life changing experience that can help people change their life for the better
as it creates a happier and healthier environment. By the end of this summer I will have been a
Buddhist for over four years now and I can honestly say that it has made a huge impact on my life. I
have become a less stressed and more relaxed person from applying the Dharma basic principles to
my everyday routine. Dharma has helped me create my own enlightenment path to eliminating my
anger and transgression. After I made the change from Lutheran to Buddhism it has help me get
through a lot of problems that I never could stop dwelling over and even just little everyday problems.
When I had first heard about Buddhism it was on TV from then on I was intrigued. Coming from a
family that never paid much attention to religion, never having been to church and only praying on
thanksgiving I never had much interest in religion until I started researching about Buddhism. From
then on I started to practice the teachings of Buddha and began to somewhat master so on the lessons
but there are still something that I have yet to accomplish with college I haven t had much time to
practice and there are said to be lessons that take some Buddhist almost a live time to accomplish. By
following Buddha s path it has allowed me to develop a self awareness by seeing one s self and
changing ones point of view. Teaching me to stop expecting so much because in truth live has not
even promised to

The Code Of Conduct Set By The International Gymnastics...
A score of 10.00 for a single routine is under the code of conduct set by the International Gymnastics
Federation (FIG). It was originally thought to be unattainable, until 1976; when Nadia Comaneci
scored the first ever perfect ten. There have been a few perfect scores after Comaneci, like the first
male to score 10.00, Alexander Dityatin in 1980. The last two perfect tens that were given were in
Barcelona in 1992. Between 1976 and 1992, lots of 10.00 were given out; making a perfect ten lose its
meaning. In the years following, the skills got harder, the equipment changed and the code of points
changed, making a perfect ten physically impossible. If one were to watch Nadia Comaneci s bar
routine and compare it to Gabby Douglas bar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The women s uneven bars evolved from the men s parallel bars, which were originally fixed wooden
rails set in the ground. Today both use flexible, adjustable rails that absorb shock and provide bounce
for the gymnasts. Finally the balance beam was a long, narrow block of wood, mostly because
routines focused more on the dance than the tumbling. Olga Korbut and Nadia Comaneci introduced
powerful tumbling in the 1970s, thus the beams had to change to increase safety. Now beams are
padded with rounded, cushioning material to absorb shock of tumbling and jumping gymnasts. Grips
help to grip the bar, and reduce the friction between the bar and the gymnast s hand. This helps to
reduce the number of rips, which helps the gymnast perform more skills in less pain. Throughout the
years the Code of Points has been changed by the International Gymnastics Federation. A new scoring
system was introduced in 2006. It consists of an A score, based on the difficulty of elements, and a B
score, based on artistic impression. The way to max out your A score is to cram the toughest possible
moves into your routine and pack them as tightly together as you can manage. While the B score starts
from 10, and points are taken off for mistakes such as flexed feet or bent knees. And the two scores are
put together to create the final score. By doing this it has eliminated the perfect 10, as athletes can go
over a 10.00 score. Gymnasts

Ambiguity Of Civil Liberties Essay
Civil liberties have a formative and long history within the UK, the development of which is
considered to have begun with the Magna Carta in 1215. This document is often described as the
blueprint and original template for the numerous Bill of Rights and constitutions which exist today.
Unlike other countries, such as the USA, the UK does not have a written constitution setting out its
citizens civil liberties. Common law may account for many of the UK s long recognised civil liberties
however it is the documents which exemplify liberties which are still enforced today, such as habeas
corpus: anyone who has been arrested or otherwise deprived of their liberty, may apply for a judge to
oversee the legality of this decision. With the UK currently a party to the European Convention of
Human Rights (ECHR) and the Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA 1998), it is becoming ever more
important to understand what defines a civil liberties and whether civil liberties and human rights can
be viewed as interchangeable concepts. This essay aims to examine: the origins and apparent
ambiguity of civil liberties and human rights; the two different approaches offered by the author of
Textbook on Civil Liberties and Human Rights, Richard Stone; and Ewing and Gearty s slant, as noted
in The Struggle for Civil Liberties; whether civil liberties are distinct from human rights will also be
explored, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gearty argues that civil liberties are the rights which are not to be interfered with, rather than the right
to do something. They have divided civil liberties into two categories: primary and secondary. Primary
liberties are those necessary for direct participation in the political process, such as the right to vote;
whereas secondary liberties are those which allow influence on politics. The view here is that civil
liberties are mostly protected by common law, whilst human rights are safeguarded by

A Swot Analysis Of Suburban Regional Malls

Introduction
Suburban shopping malls are malls where with a single location shoppers can visit more over
hundreds shops all of different kinds, i.e. shoppers can eat, watch movies, dine and walk. Most
Americans could hung out here all the entire day and feel much uplifted in spirit by their experience.
Suburban regional malls were designed to be a substitute or even a replacement for a city central
business district. In 50s such malls were small but today it stands out to be a large malls that can be
categorized into eight types, include; Neighborhood centers, community centers, regional centers,
superregional centers, fashion/ specialty centers, power centers, theme/ ... Show more content on

This is through compelling content and creating deeper bonds with them through social media and
proprietary sites and apps, as well as loyalty programs. Social media can be useful, for instance, to
create buzz about new tenants or solicit ideas from consumers about ideas for new stores. Mall loyalty
programs can provide the means for malls to establish a direct relationship with customers that goes
beyond each visit to the mall, while allowing malls to collect precious information about customers.
Secondly, I would use technology to transform this mall usability as a mean of improving customer s
satisfaction. This can decrease customers pain points, while simultaneously creating entirely new
delight points, for instance, technology can be used by shoppers to find parking and mobile apps can
offer quick, easy guide to help shoppers find what they re looking for at today s increasingly large and

Gospel Music Research Paper
The Progression from spirituals to Black Gospel Music
Many people would refer to gospel music as religious songs or songs regarding to life as a Christian.
Gospel music varies, which gives an alternative to Christian music with a mix of secular music. With
it being many styles of Christian music, the performance, the lyrics, instruments and the formation,
gives gospel music different meanings. To most, gospel is simply thanks and praise and worship to the
Lord. The establishment of gospel goes way back with European and African roots. The first known
use of gospel was in 1874 when a European songwriter named Philip P. Bliss titled a songbook as
Gospel Songs. Tribal African music was highly different than European music in major ways.

Dorsey is responsible for discovering and nurturing the career of the world s first gospel superstar,
Mahalia Jackson (Ayubu 11). Mahalia Jackson, known as the Queen of Gospel was the first famous
gospel singer. According to Dorsey, she asked him to coach her, and for two months they worked
together on technique and repertoire. They would tour together in the 1940s (TMCod). Mahalia
wanted to sing gospel and who was better to help her with this? Mahalia describes gospel music as
The blues are songs of despair, but gospel songs are the songs of hope ( Make a Joyful Noise: The
Spread of Gospel Music ). Not only did he create the first famous gospel singer, but also the first
gospel choir and choruses. Thomas Dorsey made the first black gospel publishing company called
Dorsey s House of Music founded his own gospel choir and was the founder and was also the first
president of the National convention of Gospel Choir and Choruses. Dorsey had a fellow blues
musician that helped him with his publishing business, which became so successful that people
nationwide called any piece of gospel sheet music a Dorsey (TMCod). One of Dorsey s friend s
decided to help him to publish and Dorsey was so unique people named sheet music after him.

Child Labor In Somalia
There are more than 200 million children that are labourers in this world. Somalia is ranked one of the
highest countries for child labor. Child labor began around the 1700 s and started because families and
people needed someone to work for them or they would not be able to survive. In Somalia and all over
the world, child labor is still present. Having to work in life threatening environments, work with
dangerous tools and weapons, and be forced into trafficking shows that there should be an end to child
labor.
Forced child labor starts at a very young age and is extremely harmful to children, especially if they
are put into the war. According to Thomson Returns Foundation, Some of them [Somali citizens]were
as young as 11 thin, malnourished, scary looking boys with bloodshot eyes in tattered clothes
(Baldwin). Since these poor children are forced to work at a young age, they quickly become ill. Once
children are around eleven years old, they are put to work. Also, their work includes a lot of dangerous
work which impacts them to physically look different from when they started working. The United
States Department of Labor claims that, Children planted explosive devices, acted as human shields,
conducted assassinations and suicide attacks, gathered intelligence, and provided domestic service;
girls were forced into sexual servitude (United States Department of Labor). Children are forced to
participate in life threatening acts because other people did not want to

Throughout the passage from Madame Bovary, the tones established through detail, imagery and figurative language reveal the character of Charles to the reader. The detail in the beginning of the passage allows the reader to feel a serene and calm tone. Flaubert also establishes an intense tone in his passage. When Charles first meets the patient sweating under the blanket and cursing , he sees a large decanter of brandy that the patient had been drinking to dull the pain and remain strong . The pain was so overwhelming for the patient that he had to drink to overcome the pain and curse to gain strength. This provides an intense tone because the reader senses the pain the man is in from the descriptions of the man, and his surroundings. Charles realizes that the finest thing about her was her eyes, the way that they draw him in and appear black under the long eyelashes and have a fearless candor to them. • 15. National Literacy Crusade Of 1980 Essay The Sandinistas National Literacy Crusade of 1980 (CNA) significantly reduced the rate of illiteracy in Nicaragua from an estimated forty three percent to twelve percent. Improvements to the literacy rate were short lived. The instability of Nicaragua under the Sandinistas (1979 1990) effectively froze state sponsored education programs, minimizing the potential of educational efforts after the 1980 campaign. The weakened Sandinista government, as well as inadequate preparation of post CNA teachers, allowed the newly literate to lose their literacy. Although the campaign failed to permanently reduce illiteracy, it did serve as a catalyst for a new brand of Nicaraguan nationalism amongst young Nicaraguans who served as volunteer teachers. The campaign allowed women to transcend the traditional social and hierarchical boundaries of Nicaraguan society. Women assumed positions of authority as teachers, challenging the historically patriarchal norms of Nicaraguan culture. Introduction In July of 1979, after years of fighting the repressive Somoza regime, the Frente Sandinista de Liberacíon Nacional (FSLN) and their allies seized Managua and with it the seat of Nicaragua s government. Coal, a commodity that the world depends on as a vital economic player and energy resource, is extracted from the ground at a very costly price to the environment. It is a major energy source that provides about 40% of the electricity that the world consumes, and the consumption of coal has grown dramatically in recent years. Not only is coal a major energy producer, but it is also a vital player in many countries economies, employing millions across the world both directly and indirectly. Not only does a coach prepare athletes body but also their minds. A coach prepares the athletes mind by getting them to think about what they are going to be doing before there event comes up. This individual did have some homosexual tendencies and always arrived with fire rescue because of the exposure to masculine men. He always dressed in a variety of feminine clothing and most occasions dressed with much of exaggeration such as a princess or cheerleader. The entire time while receiving treatment in the emergency room, whether being a true emergent situation or an act, the patient was constantly ridiculed and was the center of humorous attention. I understand that some transvestites will expose themselves more than others with the possibility of having psychological problems. Most transvestites hide their fetish with the probability of embarrassment if revealed. Depending on the level of exposure will make a significant difference on the plan of care and the medical staff involved. Conclusion Vulnerable populations like transvestites maintain their solitude among themselves or hidden within private communities. Acceptance of this lifestyle is a slow intergrading process within today s society. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This might sound atypical to any other story of a young artist, but I am going to explain why my story is unique. A friend once said to me An artist sees the world in a different way. It was uncanny to hear this because I have only known the world through my artist eyes. My story is different because my first love was unique. Do you remember your first love? • 36. The Concept Of Modernity, And Charles Baudelaire And Karl... Modernity is the dynamic relationship between culture, polity, society and economy. Even though each of these concepts of modernity are often followed in a relatively autonomous path of development, these institutional realms is usually influenced by each other (Madsen, 2002). Two modern philosophers who introduce the concept of modernity are Charles Baudelaire and Karl Marx. On the one hand, Charles Baudelaire explores modernity through the notion of a strange man. The strange man follows dandyism as a philosophy of life against uncertainty. Modernity is described as a desired quality of dandyism, whose mysterious institution creates a new reality of being (Baudelaire, 1995). On the other hand, Karl Marx identifies modernity in the rise of the bourgeoisie epoch, suggesting a cosmopolitan freedom. Similarly to dandyism, cosmopolitan freedom strives for the limitation of uncertainty and the creation of an insensitive reality (Marx Engels,2008). However, modernity is condemned to failure since uncertainty is a part of human nature. Therefore, uncertainty cannot be removed from the human condition. Nevertheless, this discussion will argue that the real problem with modernity is its exploitation of freedom and its misunderstanding around the concept of ambivalence. If modernity embraces intellectual ambivalence, then humanity will find true freedom. Charles Baudelaire explores the concept of modernity through the notion of a strange man (Baudelaire, 1995, p.5). In David Mazzucchelli s graphic novel Asterios Polyp color is used to express both emotion and time through his use of the printer primary colors, cyan, magenta and yellow. The straw seats of the car hovered on the edge of combustion; the woman next to me perspired delicately for a while into her white shirtwaist and then, as her newspaper dampened under her fingers, lapsed despairingly into the deep heat with a desolate cry (120 121). This symbolizes the upcoming conflict and foreshadows the climax of emotions that are to come, with the confrontation in the suite, Daisy s rejection, and Myrtle s death. The heat also shows the mix and confusion of emotions in Daisy, and Daisy recognizes that ... it s so hot ... And everything s so confused ... (125). This quote symbolizes Daisy and Gatsby s relationship. It is when the weather is at it s hottest that Gatsby s and Daisy s relationship reaches a climax. Also when Nick, Gatsby, Daisy, Jordan, and Tom are all sitting in the Plaza, the book describes the daytime to also be unbearably hot. Oh, let s have fun, she begged him. It s too hot to fuss. He didn t answer (126). This quote shows that as the weather progressively gets hotter so does the tempers of Gatsby and Tom. The heat, in this case, symbolizes the way that hatred between Daisy s husband and Gatsby ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Buddhism s Life Changing Experience Buddhism Buddhism is a life changing experience that can help people change their life for the better as it creates a happier and healthier environment. By the end of this summer I will have been a Buddhist for over four years now and I can honestly say that it has made a huge impact on my life. I have become a less stressed and more relaxed person from applying the Dharma basic principles to my everyday routine. Dharma has helped me create my own enlightenment path to eliminating my anger and transgression. After I made the change from Lutheran to Buddhism it has help me get through a lot of problems that I never could stop dwelling over and even just little everyday problems. When I had first heard about Buddhism it was on TV from then on I was intrigued. Coming from a family that never paid much attention to religion, never having been to church and only praying on thanksgiving I never had much interest in religion until I started researching about Buddhism. From then on I started to practice the teachings of Buddha and began to somewhat master so on the lessons but there are still something that I have yet to accomplish with college I haven t had much time to practice and there are said to be lessons that take some Buddhist almost a live time to accomplish. By following Buddha s path it has allowed me to develop a self awareness by seeing one s self and changing ones point of view. Teaching me to stop expecting so much because in truth live has not even promised to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Code Of Conduct Set By The International Gymnastics... A score of 10.00 for a single routine is under the code of conduct set by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). It was originally thought to be unattainable, until 1976; when Nadia Comaneci scored the first ever perfect ten. There have been a few perfect scores after Comaneci, like the first male to score 10.00, Alexander Dityatin in 1980. The last two perfect tens that were given were in Barcelona in 1992. Between 1976 and 1992, lots of 10.00 were given out; making a perfect ten lose its meaning. In the years following, the skills got harder, the equipment changed and the code of points changed, making a perfect ten physically impossible. If one were to watch Nadia Comaneci s bar routine and compare it to Gabby Douglas bar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The women s uneven bars evolved from the men s parallel bars, which were originally fixed wooden rails set in the ground. Today both use flexible, adjustable rails that absorb shock and provide bounce for the gymnasts. Finally the balance beam was a long, narrow block of wood, mostly because routines focused more on the dance than the tumbling. Olga Korbut and Nadia Comaneci introduced powerful tumbling in the 1970s, thus the beams had to change to increase safety. Now beams are padded with rounded, cushioning material to absorb shock of tumbling and jumping gymnasts. Grips help to grip the bar, and reduce the friction between the bar and the gymnast s hand. This helps to reduce the number of rips, which helps the gymnast perform more skills in less pain. Throughout the years the Code of Points has been changed by the International Gymnastics Federation. A new scoring system was introduced in 2006. It consists of an A score, based on the difficulty of elements, and a B score, based on artistic impression. The way to max out your A score is to cram the toughest possible moves into your routine and pack them as tightly together as you can manage. While the B score starts from 10, and points are taken off for mistakes such as flexed feet or bent knees. And the two scores are put together to create the final score. By doing this it has eliminated the perfect 10, as athletes can go over a 10.00 score. Gymnasts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Ambiguity Of Civil Liberties Essay Civil liberties have a formative and long history within the UK, the development of which is considered to have begun with the Magna Carta in 1215. This document is often described as the blueprint and original template for the numerous Bill of Rights and constitutions which exist today. Unlike other countries, such as the USA, the UK does not have a written constitution setting out its citizens civil liberties. Common law may account for many of the UK s long recognised civil liberties however it is the documents which exemplify liberties which are still enforced today, such as habeas corpus: anyone who has been arrested or otherwise deprived of their liberty, may apply for a judge to oversee the legality of this decision. With the UK currently a party to the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) and the Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA 1998), it is becoming ever more important to understand what defines a civil liberties and whether civil liberties and human rights can be viewed as interchangeable concepts. This essay aims to examine: the origins and apparent ambiguity of civil liberties and human rights; the two different approaches offered by the author of Textbook on Civil Liberties and Human Rights, Richard Stone; and Ewing and Gearty s slant, as noted in The Struggle for Civil Liberties; whether civil liberties are distinct from human rights will also be explored, and ... They have divided civil liberties into two categories: primary and secondary. Primary liberties are those necessary for direct participation in the political process, such as the right to vote; whereas secondary liberties are those which allow influence on politics. The view here is that civil liberties are mostly protected by common law, whilst human rights are safeguarded by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. A Swot Analysis Of Suburban Regional Malls Suburban Regional Malls Name: Course: Tutor: Institution: Date: Introduction Suburban shopping malls are malls where with a single location shoppers can visit more over hundreds shops all of different kinds, i.e. shoppers can eat, watch movies, dine and walk. Most Americans could hung out here all the entire day and feel much uplifted in spirit by their experience. Suburban regional malls were designed to be a substitute or even a replacement for a city central business district. • 50. Child Labor In Somalia There are more than 200 million children that are labourers in this world. Somalia is ranked one of the highest countries for child labor. Child labor began around the 1700 s and started because families and people needed someone to work for them or they would not be able to survive. In Somalia and all over the world, child labor is still present. Having to work in life threatening environments, work with dangerous tools and weapons, and be forced into trafficking shows that there should be an end to child labor. Forced child labor starts at a very young age and is extremely harmful to children, especially if they are put into the war. According to Thomson Returns Foundation, Some of them [Somali citizens]were as young as 11 thin, malnourished, scary looking boys with bloodshot eyes in tattered clothes (Baldwin). Since these poor children are forced to work at a young age, they quickly become ill. Once children are around eleven years old, they are put to work. Also, their work includes a lot of dangerous work which impacts them to physically look different from when they started working. The United States Department of Labor claims that, Children planted explosive devices, acted as human shields, conducted assassinations and suicide attacks, gathered intelligence, and provided domestic service; girls were forced into sexual servitude (United States Department of Labor).
