Expositiry Essay
Crafting an expository essay can be a challenging yet rewarding endeavor, requiring a balance of
analytical skills, research proficiency, and effective communication. The difficulty lies in the
demand for a clear, concise, and informative presentation of a specific topic.
Firstly, one needs to thoroughly understand the subject matter and gather relevant information.
This involves extensive research, often delving into various sources to ensure accuracy and depth
of knowledge. Analyzing and organizing the gathered data becomes a critical step, as presenting
information in a logical sequence is essential for clarity.
The challenge intensifies when transitioning from research to writing. Maintaining a formal and
objective tone while effectively communicating complex ideas can be demanding. Crafting a
strong thesis statement that encapsulates the essay's main point adds another layer of complexity.
Moreover, structuring the essay appropriately is crucial. Each paragraph should seamlessly
connect to the next, offering a smooth flow of ideas. This requires careful consideration of
transitions and ensuring that each paragraph contributes to the overall coherence of the essay.
While maintaining objectivity, the writer must also engage the reader. Finding the right balance
between providing information and keeping the essay interesting is a delicate task. Additionally,
revising and refining the essay is a time-consuming process, demanding a keen eye for detail to
eliminate inconsistencies, improve clarity, and enhance overall quality.
In conclusion, writing an expository essay involves navigating through numerous challenges,
from in-depth research and analytical thinking to effective communication and organizational
skills. However, overcoming these challenges can result in a well-crafted piece that not only
educates but captivates the reader.
For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other writing tasks, various resources are

Essay on Pleasantville
The movie Pleasantville , written, produced and directed by Gary Ross,
approaches a period in America s history which subsequent generations idealise as
a better and more stable society. He portrays this time period of the 1950s as a
time when people and life were less complicated; a time when everyone knew their
place in society. However, as the film ironically shows, this was a time when people
were more ignorant, racist and most certainly sexist. Ross demolishes this illusion of
the great 1950s American society by showing how its defects are gradually changed
from blackand white to colour. Ross shows that change is inevitable once a catalyst
for change is added to the ordered life of Pleasantville. Once David and Mary Sue

Throughout the romantic scene between Skip and Mary Sue, the viewer notices that
Jennifer, as her Pleasantville character, Mary Sue, is the original catalyst of change
within Pleasantville . Without her intervention change would not have been
inevitable in Pleasantville . This intervention, however, was not a one way process.
The viewer also can note that Jennifer originally hated Pleasantville but grew to
accept it. This is clearly shown in the scene From the Tree of Knowledge
(01:10:00), where Jennifer puts on the coat, a symbol of Pleasantville s old fashion
dress. Supposedly because of the chill from the coming storm, she willingly puts on
what she originally first stated she would never wear. This act was the initiator of
her changing attitudes. Further by putting on glasses that symbolize nerdiness ,
reading a book and rejecting an offer to go out because she has to study , Jennifer
shows that Pleasantville is changing her into Mary Sue. The arrival for the first
time of a thunderstorm and rain to Pleasantville is a symbolic technique by director
Ross to imply that those who embraced change had their former selves washed
away. So Mary Sue, Bill and many of the teenagers become coloured people after the
storm. They become different people no longer normal residents of Pleasantville.
Bud is the second catalyst of change, yet most of the time when he does inflict
change upon Pleasantville he does so
The Rant By Andrew Case
In The Rant by Andrew Case, the space that is presented to the audience is very
irregular. The play begins outside at the front of a murder scene; tranquil and then
harmful. The audience is then presented with a switch in locations to an interview
room that is safe and secure. This transition between locations makes the audiencefeel
as though time is moving by at an extremely fast rate but in reality, it is just scenes
changing each moment. These transitions consistently keep the audience on their toes
making them beg for more. As the playprogresses; scene by scene, the audience is
presented with different rants from each character. The rant between Reeves and
Mahnaz, Mahnaz to Stern, Mahnaz to Simmons, all come together to form one big
story. This rapid alteration between rants causes time to seem as though it does not
stand still, but instead remain hectic and out of control. Andrew Case, makes the
play, to me, seem like a fast moving edge of seat thriller where the action swallows
you and causes you to get involved in the conflict of the play. The mood that is
formed helps show this predicament by portraying irritation, retribution, and a desire
to find out what actually happened. The audience, and even the characters presented
in the play, are now motivated to discover what actually happened on that front porch
of that warm summer night in August. The entire play seems to come together in a
very dramatic way which causes the allusion of time standing still to become

The Racism Of Jackie Robinson
Danny Bogue
Mr. Wallace
History Day
12 September 2014
Jackie Robinson He walks into the stadium...hopeful...yet aware of the prejudice
exiting in the minds of the ignorant... in the minds of those who do not realize his
journey will empower the victims of unjustified hate and he will change history.
Jackie Robinson shattered the color barrier in the MLB despite racism that permeated
throughout the league and in society in the 1940 s. Jackie Robinson was the first
African American to play major league baseball. He is a model or courage and
fortitude for everyone, and has left a huge legacy in the baseball world and in the
whole entire sports world. He was signed by the brooklyn Dodgers in April 15, 1947.
This is when history was made. This paper will explain Jackie Robinson s life before
his career as a dodger, how he played, the person behind the signing of Jackie, and
most importantly how the fans treated him and how he was even a leader/what his
legacy even was. Jack Roosevelt (Jackie) Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia on
January 31, 1919. He was born to Mallie and Jerry Robinson. He was the first of 5
children and, like most last children, got the short end of the stick on everything.
Jackie s parents got divorced when Jackie was just a few years old, he stayed with his
mom. This was very hard for Jackie because it was very hard to be a African
American in the early 1900 s, especially when you only have one parent. to you.
After this happened Jackie and his
Argumentative Essay About A Soccer Game
I happened to be on outdoor sandy field experiencing different mixed emotions as I
saw people with several face expression at the end of the big soccer game. It was
exhausting and unforgiving game that got some players injured, and caused the bad
sportsmanship to take place between the coaches, players, and fans. Our fans and
our rival s fans fought each other, and they threw stuff across the stadium as if they
were dealing with a gigantic wild animal. Some of the playerscouldn t fully focus on
their soccer match due to their divided attention, and some of them were terrified
by the fan s unnecessary acts. Whenever I think about this moment, I cry and smile
at same time because we finally understood the meaning of fair play of soccer, and
happy ending of our game occurred as a result of that. I knew before the game that
the unsportsmanlike conduct would happen, it really did as I thought, but besides
our soccer game s dirty side, it appeared to be more captivating by the way it was
played than any other game. I believe that there were three causes for the
ungentlemanly behavior that we faced during the tournament. Both my team and the
rival team fought to death in order to win the important soccer league because
neither of the teams made it to the final game before. They always face each other
during the knockout games which made them rivals. Finally, the beauty of the game
also had an effect for why the match took place to be played dirty.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Infection Control
Infection Control
Since the manual handling task requires close contact with the patient, all handlers
should follow strict infection control protocols in ICU. A recent study showed that by
strictly following infection control protocols the incidence of hospital acquired
infections could be reduced (8). In addition, an observational study concluded that
better hospital wide infection control would reduce the number of MRSA positive
patients admitted to ICU and acquisition of MRSA within ICU (9). Therefore, it is
important to minimize the spread of the infection by performing the following aseptic
techniques.
Hand washing is the most important methods of preventing the spread of infection
(7). Radiographers should wash their hands before ... Show more content on

However, there is no universal approach and best practices must be adapted to fit
the epidemiology of specific ICUs and should also consider the available resources
(10).
Radiation safety
Radiation safety of patients, radiographers and other individuals in ICU should be
considered according to the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principle.
General radiation safety principles include time, distance and shielding (7). Since the
patient is male, no pregnancy check is needed.
To protect the patient, the length of time that a patient remains in the path of the x ray
beam should be minimized. Therefore, it is important for radiographers to avoid
unnecessary repeats and thus unnecessary exposure. Gonad shielding should be used
on patients if possible, which is particularly important for young patients. In addition,
proper collimations and adjusted exposure factors should be applied according to
patient situations to minimize radiation dose (7).
Radiographers should protect themselves as well. The time spent in radiation fields
should be limited by taking shifts. Radiographers should stand as far away from
source as possible to increase distance between radiation source and themselves. They
should stand behind appropriate radiation shields or, more commonly, wear
appropriate protection (7). According to a previous study, leadapron is the most
common method of radiation protection as it may
What Is Literary Nonsense In Alice In Wonderland
Nonsense
Nonsense Literature or Literary Nonsense balances elements that make sense with
some that do not with the effect of subverting language conventions or logical
reasoning even though the most well known form of literary nonsense is nonsense
verse. The effect of nonsense is often caused by an excess of meaning rather than a
lack of it it s humor is derived from it s nonsensical nature rather than wit or the joke
of a punchline. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, who is better known as Lewis Carroll,
has authored diverse amount of poems, novels, and short stories in his career. The
Hunting of the Snark display his wonderful ability in the genre of literary nonsense.
However, Carroll is most distinguished for his infant s nonsense novels: Alice s
Adventures in Wonderland and the sequel Through the Looking Glass. His work,
principally the two mentioned, have inspire many people over the years. Alice s
Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are designed for a child s
entertainment, but both books are full of symbolism. To lectors with no experience
with Carroll s work, this term seems to describe Carroll s confusing and often
rambling style perfectly, but when more thoroughly inspected, it becomes obvious
that this nonsense has a far more profound meaning.
Alice s Adventures in Wonderland is about a young girl, Alice, who gets bored doing
her multiplication tables one day and follows a white rabbit into a hole. Through this
hole, she ends up falling into
Historical Context Of Babylon Revisited
Knowing the historical context of a work is crucial to understanding both its general
meaning and its deeper essence. Often times, authors use their works as outlets to
freely express their personal feelings toward a social trend or issue. As such, the time
in which a story is written can have a strong influence on the message the author is
trying to convey to his or her reader. Their personal reflections can be asserted in
many ways; among the most common being through the characters themselves and
their development throughout the work, the setting, and the implied themes.
An example of a work that is heavily influenced by the time period in which it was
written is F. Scott Fitzgerald s short story Babylon Revisited. Set in Paris during the
1920s, this work delineates the story of a man named Charlie Wales who was at the
pinnacle of his life when he succumbed to greed, irresponsibility, and addiction. As a
result of his carelessness, Wales experiences a tragic downfall. He not only endures
the death of his wife Helen, but he also loses his material fortune, his reputation, and
most importantly the custody of his daughter Honoria.
The time in which this story occurs the 1920s is vital to the plot. Dubbed The
Roaring 20s, this period is notorious for glamorizing lifestyles centered around
materialism, gluttony, and self absorption. The early 20th century brought about
extreme social and political changes that influenced the lifestyles and attitudes of the
public.
Is Disaster Triage A Just System
Disaster triage is a just mechanism by distributing health care to patients only based
on their level of injury. In the triage evaluation mechanism, color coded triage tags
are often utilized for the efficiency of patient identification. Triage categories might
vary depending on types of disaster and the country involved in the incident, but
generally disaster triage are divided into four categories. Black tag indicates the most
severely injured patients who are deceased or under conditions that are beyond help.
Red tag indicates the injured patients who need immediate help for survival and
should be immediately transported. Yellow tag indicates the injured patients who are
in urgent conditions but their treatments can be delayed. Green tag... Show more

Sometimes it might be hard to categorize a patient into a specific category due to the
complexity of the individual s health status. In mass casualty situations, out of hospital
health care workers may be asked to serve as triage officers in the field, despite the
fact that they have less experience and training than the senior emergency
physicians and trauma surgeons who usually perform this task at hospitals.
However, the triage system has been developed and improved over time in order to
help triage officers with drawing the fine line between each color category and
creating a more standardized system of patient evaluation. The Simple Triage and
Rapid Treatment protocol suggests that a new category (Triage tag: Blue) be
inserted between the patients who need immediate transport and those with
significant injuries, but who can wait for treatment. This revision of the system is
hoping to relieve these out of hospital providers from the fear of making grievous
errors by triaging some salvageable patients to the expectant category. This would
effectively still give priority patients the most access to medical resources while
making sure that no one was left to die because of a triage error. The creation of the
new category embodies the essential idea of
Climate Change And Its Effect On The Environment
Climate change is an issue that has the potential to affect the environment,
communities and the world economy. Scientists advise climate change will cause
increases to the likelihood of extreme weather events. Rising sea levels are at
significant risk to coastal areas and communities, while the world s oceans could
become acidic which would destroy and fail to support coral reefs and other marine
organisms (Climate ChangeAustralia Dept. Of The Environment 2014). The main
cause of climate change, which is also known as Global Warming, is widely spread. It
is mostly caused by the emission of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are released
into the atmosphere in many ways; including through the burning of fossil fuels and
by deforestation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Australia s electricity emissions are high because we mostly rely (77%) on coal for
electricity and coal is the most greenhouse intensive fuel (WWF). Australia has the
highest per capita greenhouse gas emissions. The per capita carbon footprint in
Australia was rated 12th in the world by PNAS in 2011, considerably large when
taking into account the small population of the country. According to the CSIRO and
Garnaut Climate Change Review, climate change is expected to have multiple effects
on many species, regions, activities and infrastructure and areas of the economy and
public health in Australia. The Australian Climate Commission (closed as of 2013)
had created reports to highlight the likely impacts of climate change according to
different regions. According to these reports in 2012, heat waves, bush fires and
flooding will only get worse and intensify each time because of the climate change.
This will worsen the impacts on people, property, communities and the environment.
Australia s high fire risk increases the risks related to change in temperature and
climate. Australia s population is highly condensed in coastal areas, and Australia s
tourism industry depends on the health of the Great Barrier Reef and other fragile
ecosystems (Pittock, Barry 2007). Australia has one of the worlds largest and
diverse ecosystems, this poses an extreme threat because these ecosystems are most
fragile and are at risk of damage if exposed to climate change. The
Radio Stations Of New Zealand
There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other
country in the world. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique
positioning in the market. One way to evaluate the similarities and differences
between radio stations is to conduct a Content analysis. Radio stationsdefine their
market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus, announcing style,
music, advertisements, self promotion, competitions, types of callers and news
information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hop stationMai FMto
New Zealand Media and Entertainment s (NZME) boomers station Coast.
First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of
studying propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has
evolved over the years, but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it
summarises any form of content by counting various aspects of the content (Franzosi,
2008). According to Berelson (as cited in Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of
content analysis include to discover certain trends in communication texts, to
compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of content on
audiences. The reason I am using content analysis as oppose to more systematic and
objective approaches is that it allows me to develop precise explanations concerning
trends in media content whereas impressionistic approaches are better for describing
the content, as there is no
Unexpected Expectation Testing Episodic Memory
An unexpected imitation test was the then conducted with the owner asking the dogs
to remain on the blue carpet and pay attention to a chosen demonstrated action from
table S1. Once they have demonstrated this action a predetermined retention interval,
the time between the demonstrated action and the Do it! command, of one minute or
one hour would be waited before the owner gave the dogthe Do it! command. This
test requires the assumption that a successful imitation of the demonstrated action
was possible only if dogs encoded the action incidentally. It can be assumed that the
imitation test was unexpected as there was no motivation for the dogs to remember
the actions meaning that the test meets the requirements for testing episodic memory,
which is assessed by an unexpected recall test.
In order to investigate the imitation success of the dogs in the experiment were
statistically analyzed to determine if the dog s actions match their owners. This
analysis in table 1 shows that there was a difference in success rates between the
expected and unexpected recall tests. When analyzing the data from this test only the
cases in which the dog performed either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to combat this issue the dogs were tested only after their expectation of
imitation was changed by using the lie down training before the unexpected test was
performed. The results of this study suggest that dogs could encode the
demonstrated actions incidentally, although less successfully compared to the
baseline where recall was expected. The dog s owners may have used signals which
may have caused the animals to pay more attention, however, this is unlikely to have
been a problem as these same signals were also used throughout the dog s

The Role Of Death In All The Pretty Horses
The Role of Death in All The Pretty Horses
A phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. To a phoenix,
death is merely the birth of something new. Similarly, in All the Pretty Horses by
Cormac McCarthy, death represents the beginning of something new. It is what
causes change in the characters, and can explain why they act as they do. The novel
begins with the death of John Grady Cole s (the main character) grandfather. This
death leads to John Grady leaving for Mexico. So in a way, this death really does
mark the beginning of this novel literally and figuratively. Furthermore, halfway
through All the Pretty Horses, John Grady s ill fated companion Blevins is killed.
This death represents a change in the characters, ... Show more content on

The death of Abuela, the old grandmother who raised John Grady, to be exact.
Abuela is also the women who taught John Grady Spanish. Near the end of the
novel, it says that They pulled up along the road in front of the little Mexican
cemetery. (McCarthy 300). Because of the imagery presented during the funeral, it
is safe to assume that Abuela s death also represents the death of the Spanish part
of John Grady. Additionally, John Grady has just returned from Mexico, where he
does not quite belong. He may know how to speak Spanish, but he does not
actually know Spanish. He knows nothing about their culture, their values, and their
heritage. This is very evident throughout the book. From when John Grady
continues his self destructive affair with Alejandra against the warnings of Alfonsa,
to when John Grady ignorantly tells Alejandra to run away with him to Mexico.
Because of his lack of Mexican values and customs, it is safe to say that the
Spanish side of John Grady might not have ever existed. And with the death of
Abuela, John Grady finally understands that he never truly belonged in Mexico and
he never had a Spanish side in the first place. All in all, the death of Abuela marks
the death of the Spanish side of John Grady that never quite existed in the first

There are several advantages:
A. The agents react to a action rather than plan it,hence they are not goal directed .
B. Agents are simplistic in nature , having very less memory and minimal behaviour.
C. With no global information in the system the command is decentralized .
D.As emergent behavious adapts to changes with respect to a single entity failure ,
one agent failure is thus permitted.
E. Dynamic changes in surrounding affects the agents
F There is very little or no direct interaction among agents.
There are certain disadvantages:
A.The study of the actions or characteristiccs of a single agent wont help to gather
information about the whole swarm.Hence choosing swarm defeating behaviour will
be difficult.
B.Single agents behaviour is random and noisy as action course is stochastic.
C.Due to lack of analytical mechanism ,creating the design for swarm based system is
difficult.

Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl Summary
Reader it is not to awaken sympathy for myself that I am telling you truthfully what
I suffered. During the time of the slavery movement, the primary goal for writing
slave stories such as, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Property was to gain
some sort of sympathy within the white community and gain support to stop slavery.
As both of these narratives are written from the female perspective, the two stories
show the harsh reality and the ironic nature of sexual exploitation through language
and imagery. The two narratives revolve around many literary elements to help shape
the story along with similar story patterns that took place during the particular time
period. Within Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, the narrative is often interrupted
by the social and political aspects that occur and Property really focuses on the
personal relationships that go on between the slave owners and their slaves, in
particular the relationship between man and women and woman to woman. Each
literary element touches upon the topic of sexual exploitation. As the two cases of
how the narrators or characters experience sexual exploitation are different, the term
is still applicable. Within this essay I will shape the discussion around these four
literary elements: Foreshadowing, metaphor, irony and... Show more content on

The South is known to be the land of Christianity and rights. However, though the
Christian s attended church and prayed, they by no means treated their slaves with a
Christian attitude. This is very evident within Harriet Jacob s narrative as she speaks
of the mistreatment by the hypocritical Christians. In chapter 13, Linda exposes the
hypocrisy of the Christian church and how the slaves are expected to be obedient to
their masters according to the flesh . This concept seems a bit out of place as
religion has been dramatically
Memi And Sabu And The Seated Statue Of Gudea
The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu and The Seated Statue of Gudea are
two historic statues dating back 2000 years B.C. that have been displayed at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The subjects represented in both
statues display a strength in human relationships. They also both bear emotional
and physical similarities. Memi and Sabu and Gudea also have many differing
characteristics such as their medium and historical value. This essay will further
describe the similarities and differences between The Royal Acquaintances Memi
and Sabu and The Seated Statue of Gudea. The Royal Acquaintances Memi and
Sabu is constructed of limestone. Limestone is an organic sedimentary rock
composed of skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral and mollusks.
It is very common and is still frequently used in architecture and art. It is long
lasting and stands up well to exposure. Landmarks such as the Great Pyramids
were constructed of limestone (Cassar, 2010). The seated Statue of Gudea is
sculpted of diorite. Diorite is the traditional base material in the construction of
roads and parking areas. It is considered difficult to sculpt with because of its
hardness and variable composition. For those reasons, it is not a stone often used by
sculptors nowadays. It was popular among ancient sculptors of the Middle East
(Diorite, n.d.). The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu and The Seated Statue of
Gudea are similar in size but still relatively small in size.
Assisted Suicide Should Not Be Illegal
This year there will be hundreds of terminally ill people that die with the help of
assisted suicide. And the question is should we control it or let people decide at
their own risk how they want their last days to be? In this paper we will look at
what the common law ,model penal code ,and state codes and statutes have to say.
We will also look at some controversial but substantial cases that make assisted
suicidelegal in some states. And why Wisconsin and many other states believe
assisted suicide should still be illegal. To begin you must first know that assisted
suicide is for only terminally ill patients that have lost the will to live. Although this
topic may seem like a common thing assisted suicide is actually a rare occurrence....

Whereas Utah, Nevada, and Wyoming do not recognize common law. This means
that they have no statutes that pertain to the assisted suicide topic.
This is where some of these big cases come into play. The three big cases that we will
look at are Baxter v. Montana, Lee v. state of Oregon, and Washington v. Glucksberg.
These cases are the reason that the five states have legalized assisted suicide and the
reason for it. In Baxter v. Montana a 75 year old retired truck driver had a terminal
form of leukemia. He was getting chemotherapy for it, but that will only get you so
far. He began to get fatigue, nausea, and his glands started to swell. After the
infections started the pain became unbearable for him. So he wanted the option of
assisted suicide, but at this point in time it was illegal in the state of Montana. So the
plaintiff of the case sued the state of Montana and said that the homicide statute was
unconstitutional. The Montana supreme court looked into this case and previous
assisted suicide cases. And the issue they found was whether the consent of the
patient to the physician s aid in dying could constitute a statutory defense to a
homicide charge. But in Montana there is an exception to the consent defense, where
the public can not cause harm to anyone even with their consent. So the supreme
court looked even deeper into another Montana case that was just for public
How Human Brain Works Essay
How the Human Brain Works
The human brain is one of the most amazing organs in a body and at the same time
the most mysterious. It is the control center of the body and it s important to
understand the complexity of the human brain. Although your brain functions as a
whole, it consists of three main parts, The Central Core, the Limbic System, and the
Cerebral Cortex. Then those parts break into even smaller parts. The brain is just like
the computer, it depends on certain parts to work correctly and get every day jobs
and even more complex jobs done.
The Central Core The Central Core is the first of the three main parts of the brain. It
is also broken up into five main parts that help us do the everyday simple things in
life like, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Limbic system is separated in three parts, the Hippocampus, the Amygdala, and
the Hypothalamus. The Hippocampus s role is controlling emotion, learning, and
memory; while the Amygdala controls aggression, eating, drinking, and sexual
behaviors. Then you have the Hypothalamus which monitors the blood levels of
glucose, salt, blood pressure, and hormones. It also helps to control the processes in
the body through its connection to the central and autonomic nervous systems and

The Cerebral Cortex
The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is
divided into two equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the
same four areas called lobes. Areas in the lobes control all forms of conscious
experience, perception, emotion, thought, and planning, as well as many unconscious
and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor control and cognitive
activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the present to
the future through purpose. The parietal lobe controls the sensory process, spatial
interpretation, attention, and language understanding. The occipital lobe controls the
process of visual information and passes its conclusions to the parietal and temporal
lobes. This leads me to the temporal lobe which assists in auditory perception,
language comprehension, and visual recognition.
If the central core, limbic system or cerebral cortex fails the brain will not be
Definition Of Good And Evil Essay
Throughout human existence, questions have arisen concerning the nature of good
and evil. Many scientist, philosophers, and theologians have been intrigued by these
questions. Through Augustine s Confessions and E. O. Wilson s In Search of Nature,
one is accessible to two distinct perspectives concerning the nature of good and evil.
Augustine sets up an argument in his Confession that attempts to define evil. God is
the author of everything. Augustine says, nothing that exists could exist without You
[God] (Book I, Chapter II). Nothing in this world exists apart from God.
For Augustine, God is good because everything He made is good. Everything about
God is good. No aspect of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Augustine approaches this issue from an entirely different perspective. He asks: Do
we have any good evidence that God exists? If He does, is He good? Since all that
God created is good and evil is not good, then evil is not something that God created.
This was Augustine s solution, but the question still remains: What is evil?
He observed that everything God made is good and when you take away from
goodness from something God made, we call that condition evil. Another way of
putting it is that evil is the lack of good. In this solution, good has substance
whereas evil does not; it is merely good that is missing. If it does not have any
substance, then it does not require a creator. To say that something is evil is a
shorthand way of saying it lacks goodness. Augustine goes on to explain how such a
thing can be, and gets into a discussion about free will.
E. O. Wilson s In Search of Nature, specifically The Serpent , displays evil in terms
of the Serpent. The snake s image enters the conscious and unconscious mind with
ease during reverie and dreams. It appears without warning and departs abruptly,
leaving behind not a specific memory of any real snake but the vague sense of a
more powerful creature (Wilson 5). One may observe that evil can
Challenges And Opportunities For Product Managers
Never in history has there been more challenges and opportunities for product
managers bringing new and innovative products to the marketplace. However,
competitive pressures in the form of economic and global shifts have made it more
difficult for product managers to respond to increased customer demands and
infidelity. Many product managers are asking; Are we building the right products
with the right features? Which features or technologies should I invest in or which
features should we cease? What should I end of life, and how can I better serve my
end user customers? All of these questions, while not new, are more complicated due
to advances in technology, changes in lifestyles, increased trade and tariffs, as well as

Above and beyond technology expertise, product managers must maximize their
limited budgets and resources from the start to ensure they have the tools to be
successful. Many organizations are turning to design manufacturers like Jabil to
enable their business to decrease production costs, increase capacity, and achieve
economies of scale they cannot attain themselves. Thereby reducing overall risk and
to ensure they can meet agreed upon NPI (new production introduction) schedules
and quality standards. Product managers must do more with less, be more informed
about the markets and technology they serve, and most importantly become
resourceful with both internal and external resources they engage to bring their
products to market. There are many reasons to work with a design manufacturer, and
each are definitely not created equally. Below are the top reasons product managers
should consider working with a to design manufacturer that has the expertise, scale,
and history to ensure success: 1.End to end insight into the supply chain One of the
key differentiators top design manufacturers leverage is their ability to have visibility
and insight into all aspects of the supply chain, especially when manufacturing goes
global. This visibility helps companies to understand their products demand,
inventories, service parts management, and the products overall viability. Finally,
when choosing a design

the quantity of arable land to match this level of growth. Already, the United
Nations is grappling with the realities of a global food shortage crisis, meaning that,
even without the next 2 billion people added to the global population, world leaders
are struggling to feed the mouths we presently have. Experts are turning everywhere

Essentially, crops are raised in a glasshouse under incessant, low cost LEDs whose
light is emitted at very specific wavelengths to catalyze photosynthesis. The far red

University of Queensland and a co author on the new study. In the glasshouse, we
currently use high pressure sodium vapor lamps, and these are quite expensive in
terms of the electricity demand, Hickey explains. In our paper, we demonstrate that
wheat and barley populations can be grown at a density of about 900 plants per
square meter, thus in combination with LED light systems, this presents an exciting
opportunity to scale up the operation for industry use. This comes on the heels of a
fairly significant panel report from Parliament in India coming out against genetically

Environment and Forests in New Delhi concluded that no GM crops should be
brought into the country without thorough evaluation of the probable effects. The
committee suggested that the government conduct this evaluation in collaboration

The Twelve Tables Of Roman Law
Roman Law
By Ryan Service
In the beginning of Roman history when the city of Rome was founded in 753
B.C.E, the Romans set up a system of laws that enforced many civil law, criminal
law and other laws. These laws were foundations of Roman Empire giving
advances to the Republic. Even today they are still enforcing some of these laws.
With the Roman laws there were some corrupt laws that took advantage of others.
These laws also provided a great framework for other nations to create a safe society.
These Roman laws developed a bases for better government standards.
Twelve Tables In the start of Roman history, kings ruled the kingdom but the guy
named Lucius Iunius Brutus rose against the kings who were defeated them in battle.
The first laws were placed down by the constitutions were the twelve tables. Ancient
Roman laws formed the Constitution of the Romans Republic. Ten members of the
Council made laws to protect citizens of Rome. The Patricians were well educated
due to there families wealth so they gave advise for making laws for the government.

The Everlasting Impact Of The Medieval Church
Throughout history, the power of religion has held influence over many aspects of
society. Such clout can be seen through the reign of the Medieval church. Putting the
faith at the forefront of life created an everlasting impact on Western Europe, as the
church affected the society, culture, and government across the region. Specifically, it
was the Roman Catholic Church that left an impression on the world. It s faith
shaped the daily lives of the early people through worship and the surrounding
culture, as well as reshaping the government to spread it s papal power. Overall, it
was the church that built the European world.
Socially, the church created a lasting impact through it s calling for war. On multiple
occasions, through different Popes, the Roman Catholic Church summoned the
public into a religious frenzy. In 1095, Pope Urban II addressed the masses and
conjured a force to free the Holy Land from the invading Muslims. In his speech at
the Council of Clermont, Urban II stated that the men that had stood before him must
fight for Christ commands it . After the social gathering, men with their families, the
wealthy and the poverty stricken, embarked on the First Crusade. In the name of
their God, they fought against the Muslims and murdered Jews whose views
opposed their own faith. This hatred towards religious infidels and the Jewish people
would come into play in later Crusades, as well as throughout the world s history.

Consequences Of Unprotected Sex In Adolescence
In the adolescent stage, teens begin to develop sexual relations with significant
others. It is a big decision that comes with precautions and responsibility. Unprotected
sex can have many consequences such as sexually transmitted diseases and
pregnancy. Unprotected sex is having sexual intercourse without contraceptives such
as condoms and birth controls.
Each year, approximately 750,000 teen girls get pregnant with approximately 400,000
births from teens. Pregnancy is caused by unprotected sex. When getting pregnant at
a young age, there is a lot of responsibility that comes with it. The mother must take

That s why it is important to know your partner before having sexual intercourse
along with wearing a condom during intercourse. A condom is a thin, stretchy pouch
like material that the male puts on his penis before/during sexual intercourse. This
prevents sperm from getting into the vagina and meeting the egg to produce
pregnancy. They also protect against STD s. Condoms protect you and your partner
from having direct skin to skin contact in your genital areas. Direct skin to skin
contact along with bodily fluids can carry infections that may need medical attention.
Condoms aren t the only thing that helps prevent pregnancy, birth control does too.
Birth control has been around for years however it does not protect you from STD
s that why it s important to also use a condom as protection. Birth control is a
series of hormones that prevent pregnancy from occurring. Although it is not 100%
affective, it usually works well. There are many kinds of birth controls available
such as, the patch, the pill, the ring, depo shot, IUD and many others. In conclusion,
it is very important to practice safe sex. You don t want to be the teen that gets

The Government s Background Investigation Essay
Topic:
The US government s background investigation process for individuals seeking
employment with US Federal, State, and Local government agencies and private
sector organizations is an important part of US homeland security. Through a
thorough investigation of an individual s biographical, residential, employment,
education, military, medical, financial and legal histories, etc., information regarding
an applicant s background is obtained and a report of investigation (ROI) is prepared
and submitted to an adjudicator for review. After review of the ROI, the adjudicator
makes a determination of an individual s suitability to obtain a security clearance for a
position impacting the US national security. If the results of a background
investigation are favorably adjudicated, the individual is eligible to receive a security
clearance; if certain derogatory information is obtained during the background
investigation, an individual can be denied a security clearance.
Problem:
Although much personal and private information is obtained and reviewed during
most background investigations, there is one glaring omission of information that
can prove to be valuable in determining the suitability for an individual to obtain a
security clearance. The information listed on an individual s social media accounts
(e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Internet Chat rooms) can provide invaluable insight
into a subject s character, integrity, loyalty, allegiance and other characteristics
Modern Technology And Its Impact On Society
Before modern technology, men would band together for the protection of their
families. History has proven people group together for survival, whether that be
warmth, food, or protection. The idea was that a group is stronger and more
profitable than one person acting alone. Each tribe or gathering of individuals
working together is considered a society. A society is nothing more than a group of
people living together for a common purpose, or simply because it is more
convenient. But, if all societies were thriving entities, then we would not know the
hardships that have repeated throughout history, such as, poverty and famine. On the
contrary, a society that works well is a society that works for the well being of its
individualmembers. A high functioning and successful society is built on a
foundation of trust and equality and enforced by a governing body. Trust in people
is merely a relationship of reliance and an intrinsic part of human nature. It is
established at the family level and expands outward as the child matures. Each being
depends on their families to provide as one depends on educators to teach.
Furthermore, trust is necessary for institutions such as schools, hospitals, businesses,
and even the government to effectively operate. The workforce expects their
employers to give a cash able paycheck in return for their hard worked hours;
consumers give a business compensation on the basis of receiving a product or
service in return; and individuals put their

The plot takes place at a sandwich factory in 1994.. The narrator of the story, who

factory. One thing we should remember while reading the story is that we hear the
thoughts and opinions from his point of view, so that doesn t necessarily that it s all

We know that he is a male only because someone at the factory wants to find him a

In the words of our main character, he would run around with a knife, threatening
him. It scared him, but at the same time it wasn t a big deal at all, since he would
casually ask customers if he had a knife in his back. Apparently the mad man drove
a forklift, and that was a big deal. That meant he got more that double the payment
compared to the other workers at the factory. He was also said to have forklift
swagger, with a certain way of moving. In that way, our main character is not like
the others at all, he wants to get out and he doesn t think he is being treated right.
The story ends with him leaving the factory and never coming back. There are
definitely some symbols in the text. For example when he mentions the sandwiches.
The narrator is mad about his job, his co workers and the managers. He compares it
to the tomatoes in the sandwich, stinging his soul with its acid. Thereafter he dreams
of a place where he could stand and silently watch the tomatoes passing him, by

Regression is one of the defence mechanisms identified by Freud. According to Freud
there are times when people are faced with circumstances that make them feel at such
unease and threatened, that they cannot deal with it and they protect themselves, by
retreating to an earlier stage of development. Many children who use regression as a
defence mechanism, may begin to suck their thumb again.
Freud s Psychosexual Stages of Development
Freud identified five stages of psychosexual development, namely: The oral stage,
anal stage, phallic stage, latency stage and genital stage.
The oral stage of development, begins at birth (even prenatally) and ends
approximately, when the child is one year old. The source of libido or pleasure and
conflict, is the mouth. The child will enjoy sucking, feeding, and putting things in
their mouth. The psychological theme here is dependency. Babies can do very little
for themselves, and this would be the time where they are cared for deeply by their
mothers and their most intimate bonding time. When a child is deprived of this and
his/ her needs are not properly fulfilled it can lead to an oral fixation or
overindulgence in their later life. Fixation in this stage could lead to problems such
as smoking, nail biting, pen chewing, overeating, alcoholism, sarcasm and verbal
hostility. (Sammons,
Football Is Not A Safe Sport
For years now, it has been clear that the majority of people believe that football is
not a safe sport at all and that it should be banned. Football has been voted as one of
the most dangerous sports in America, by many websites. In fact, in 2015 Will Smith
starred in a movie, Concussion, as forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu explaining
the serious effects of head injuries inside of football and the discovery of chronic
traumatic encephalopathy. In all honesty, if performed correctly, football is much
safer than what most opinions state and is actually a safe sport. Football is a safe
sport due to the evolution, reinvention, and improvements of many things inside of
football.
American football did not have a great start and has had somewhat of a troubling
past. The first known trial run of American football was a game played in 1869
between two very well known rugby rivalry schools in Rutgers College and
Princeton. The game was used by modified London Football Association and rugby
rules. In the late 1880 s, Yale graduate Walter Camp, began to pioneer rules changes
for the new game of American football and soon became known as the father of
American football. At the turn of the 20th century, America s football gridirons
were killing fields; even still the college game drew tens of thousands of spectators
and rivaled professional baseball in fan appeal, but football in the early 1900s was
still lethally brutal. Due to the results of 18 deaths and 159 serious injuries
Analysis Of The Psychodynamic Approach
The psychodynamic approach was developed by Sigmund Freud between 1890 and
1930. Psychodynamic approach in psychology emphasizes on systematic study of the
psychological forces that underline human behaviour , feelings and emotions and
how these relate to early experience (Hill,2001). The basis of this approach is that
psychological factors play a major role in determining behaviour and shaping
personality. Freud (1961) divided the human mind into three parts the id, ego and
superego so as to determine and understand the root causes of unusual behaviour.
Psychodynamic approach helps the individual to recognize the unconscious which
have an impact on behaviour. As a result, psychodynamic approach provides a
comprehensive framework that describes and explains human personality
(Freud,1925).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, psychodynamic approach helps to focus on childhood past experience
and the impact on present behaviour (Freud,1925). However, the psychodynamic
approach is very determinist as it says that suffering childhood traumas lead to
abnormal behaviour in adulthood (Mcleod,2015). As a result it ignores the influence
of genes, biological components and thinking patterns (Freud,1961). Furthermore,
psychoanalysis depends on the therapist interpretation of what the client says. As a
result the concepts can be biased as they are based on the therapist intervention.
However, psychodynamic utilises practical application and optimistic view that helps
psychologists to treat mental disorders and psychological distress (Luyten et al

Hope Is A Thing With Feathers Metaphor
Explication of hope is a thing with feathers
In hope is a thing with feathers Emily Dickinson uses a metaphor that compares
hope to a bird and imagery to describe hope as a bird. She tells the readers that hope
is small and fragile, but it can survive the worst of situations without asking for
anything in return.
She starts the first stanza by saying the following, hope is a thing with feathers . By
this she creates a metaphorical image of a bird to describe the image of hope
without explicitly saying so. The word feathers gives the reader the image of a
bird, but it can also symbolize the feathers as something that can help you fly or
escape to something better. The next lines continue this imagery by saying, (hope)
that perches in the soul . These two lines create the image that hope is not just a
word, but something that lives in your soul. The word perches is a birdlike quality
and supports the image of hope as a bird. Another way to look at the word perch is
that it could be a metaphor for a home. A perch is where a bird rests and the soul
could be seen as where hope rests. The next two lines say, And... Show more content

would abash or rattle the bird would have to be great to have any effect on it. The

The Theme Of Money Before People In The Grapes Of

Which is worse; parents placing money before their children, or
hdhdhshdhdhdhdhshsj? The clear answer is that both are equally disturbing. Sadly,
both these examples are not uncommon. According to Ross, many families are
breaking down as parents place work above children and children are more willing
to self destruct as they notice they are being placed second. These modern day
examples are connected to The Grapes of Wrathby a common theme, money before
people. This is a dangerous but common theme that John Steinbeckendeavors not only
to warn but to inform his readers of. Although there are some instances of the Okies

This theme reappears throughout the novel, starting with their exile all the way to
the end of their migration. When the Okies are starving and sick and in dire need
of help, the narrator says, Frantic men pounded on the doors of the doctors; and the
doctors were busy. And sad men left word at country stores for the coroner to send
a car. The coroners were not too busy. The coroners wagons backed up through the
mud and took out the dead (Steinbeck 434). This sad excerpt shows how drastically
the value of money and people s lives can be misinterpreted. Since these doctors
knew that they would receive no pay from the Okies, they simply ignored their
cries for help. In stark contrast, the coroners are paid to collect dead bodies, and
therefore are more than willing to come and take the bodies of those who could ve
been saved. This blatant disregard for human life, in unity with this excessive
preoccupation on the almighty dollar, synthesize to expose to us how central a
theme this truly is. Another reason why money before people is so imperative is
that it serves as a major source of motivation for the human opposition of the
Okies. When they first arrive in California, Tom is baffled by the cops behavior.
When he asks his friend Floyd why the cops arrest and harass the Okies for no
reason, Floyd states, Sheriff gets seventy five cents a day for each prisoner, an he
feeds em for a quarter. If

What Is The Isolation Of Limonene From Citrus Fruits
Chirality Isolation of Limonene from Citrus Fruits Introduction: Terpenes are a
large and varied class of hydrocarbons produced by a wide variety of plants. Many
essential oils belong to the terpene class. They are made up of two or more five
carbon units that are called isoprenes. Limonene is a terpene that can be separated
from orange peels almost 100% in the (R) (+) limonene form. Other citrus fruits like
lemons, grapefruits, limes, and tangerines contain the compound as well. The purity
of the oil extracted from the oranges can be determined by physical properties such
as optical rotationand refractive index. In this experiment, limonene will be isolated
by steam distillation. Normally, big molecules such as limonene... Show more content

The mixture was heated to a gentle boil and then the distillation was allowed to
begin. The heat was turned off after the temperature of the steam stayed constant.
The distillation continued until approximately 40 mL of the liquid was obtained.
The 40 mL of distillate was transferred to a 250 mL separatory funnel. A small
amount of dichloromethane was used to wash the receiver after the transferal. The
distillate was extracted with 10 mL of dichloromethane three times, each time using a
little extra dichlormethane to wash each layer. The organic layer on the bottom was
collected for each extraction. All organic layers were collected in a 125 mL
Erlenmeyer flask. Anhydrous sodium sulfate was used to dry the solution for fifteen
minutes. Meanwhile, a vacuum filtration apparatus was set up accordingly. A 250
mL filter flask was obtained and pre weighed. The solution containing the limonene
was vacuum filtrated while it was kept warm in a steam bath. Additional Sodium
Sulfate was added to the solution to remove excess water. The solution was then
washed 3 4 times with dichloromethane and the vacuum filtration continued. The
vacuum pump was turned off when the flask contained only a small amount of oil.
The flask was then weighed. After the limonene was isolated in part one, a few
drops of it was used to find the refractive index. A Pasteur pipette was used to place a
few drops of the oil on the measuring
Great Hammerhead Shark Migration Essay
Recent studies from the article Hammerhead shark migration gives new hope for
conservation discusses how these hammerhead sharks have been listed onto the
IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) since 2007, also having
certain regulation about international trade threatening species going extinct. Dr.
Tristian Guthridge explains the benefits of understanding the shark s behavior and
more research of where these sharks are migrating, and possibly manage the time of
fishing in the areas to eliminate human and shark altercations. With the wide spread
of ocean water it can be difficult to study the traveling of sharks; however, the
research group was able to tag the sharks with both acoustic and satellite tag, and use
photo identification and laser photogrammetry (Charlie Huveneers).

Dr. Charlie Huveneers personal first hand data proved that the great hammerhead
sharks are very migratory. Using this data to Tag, Photo, and researching their

FUCK!! Oh my bad. I didn t take my meds and shit. Anyway, using this information
Dr. Huveneers considers that this species is being over fished by trophy hunters
due to their long migratory patterns and range of environmental range. I personal
believe that not only did Dr. Huveneers did an outstanding job on the research for

Radiohead Accomplishments
Radiohead is a national phenomena by helping create a different and unique genre of
music. They have had great accomplishments in their careers that have made impacts
in music, and how they have influenced the world of music. They have helped
created a different genre and became an independent artist. They have donated to
many charities and have won many awards. They should be inducted into the Rock
Hall of Fame not only from how they stand out from other artists, but the sound of
their music, and what they have accomplished.
Radiohead has had successful milestones in their history. They have won numerous
awards, and have had many nominations in their career. They won best alternative

Minnesota Timberwolves Case Study Chicago Bulls
NBA rumors are swirling around the basketball circle that Minnesota
Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau wants to have a least one familiar face
to his new team. The new Minnesota head coach is planning to pursue free agent
Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah this summer, a reliable source told the Sporting
New. Noah will become a free agent this offseason, and despite the fact that the
former Florida Gator s star isn t at his peak anymore, he could still draw lots of
attention. Noah s current NBA team, the Chicago Bulls, wants to keep him but the
Minnesota is also interested in him.

Tayshun Prince has proved to be ineffective while its big man Kevin Garnett is still
on the injury list. That s where Joakim Noah, comes in, to provide some veteran
leadership on board. According to Sporting News, the Minnesota, with the help of
their new coach Tom Thibodeau, has now thrown a plan on pursuing the Chicago
Bulls center. Reports said that the team is preparing a pitch for Noah this summer,
and it s now in hot pursuit of its target.
The 31 years old center has spent his entire nine year NBA career with the Chicago
Bulls, where he played under Tom Thibodeau from 2010 to 2015. At that time,
Noah was seen as the heart and soul of the Chicago Bulls. Thibodeau knows him
very well in and out of the court, so the former Bulls coach will have no problem
dealing with him once he gets on board.
The former Florida Gator is likely to have a key role in the new Minnesota team
considering the new coach Thibodeau loves defense, which is what Noah does train
for. Noah won t be the most coveted free agent on the market today, but Noah will
still draw lots of attention the court and become one of the most interesting players to

The Concept of Comparative Advantage
The comparative advantage The concept of the comparative advantage was first
coined in 1817 by economist David Ricardo, in his On the principles of political
economy and taxation. The underlying idea of the comparative advantage theory is
that the countries possess different resources and capabilities and they can produce
some specific items in a more efficient manner than other countries can produce the
same items, or more efficiently that the same country can produce other items. In
such a setting then, the countries would best decide to produce the items for which
they possess a comparative advantage, and then exchange them within the
international market place, for items for the production of which they do not possess
a comparative advantage (Pullen, 2006). Today, the application of the comparative
advantage is revealed mostly at the level of the leading economic powers in the
world, who seek to create advantages in terms of exports, and as such maximize their
gains (Acharya, 2008). The concept and application of the comparative advantage
theory has raised vast interest throughout the past century, and this interest is revealed
at both theoretical and well as practical level. Furthermore, as the modern day society
becomes more and more engaged in globalization and market liberalization, the
application of the comparative advantage theory is gaining more momentum. Within
the economic literature for instance, various researchers have approached the issue of

Using Cognitive Biases In Research
At first I did not know what the meaning of cognitive biases is, so I had to do some
research to better understand the meaning. From what I have research cognitive
biases is basically you see what you want, and look for things to confirm what you
are looking for essentially ignoring or disregarding any information that disproves
your believe. According to CIA.gov it states that Cognitive biases are mental
errors caused by our simplified information processing strategies. It is important to
distinguish cognitive biases from other forms of bias, such as cultural bias,
organizational bias, or bias that results from one s own self interest. (CIA.gov,
2012) another way to look at cognitive biases is that it is a subconscious decision
made on a certain issue. I feel that the best way for intelligence analyst to reduce or
overcome the thought of cognitive biases would be to always look at the different
perspectives to an occurrence before judging it too greatly.... Show more content on

An analyst can also reduce their cognitive biases by simply using critical thinking to
think through the issue or problem allowing the brain to identify logic, reason and
empiricism. Using critical thinking also allows the analyst not to rush into any
conclusions or decision that may be wrong or miss leading. Leading to the
intelligence to be more precise trustworthy. In since the events of 9/11 could be used
as an example of cognitive biases although the threat was there people has a belief
that an attack of that magnitude could never happen in America. People only wanted
to see what they wanted, end result was that information was potently ignored or
Impacts and Ramifications of Stress in the Workplace Essay
In the workplace, stress can have some strong physical and mental effects on
employees. To best understand stress, it is first important to define it. Stress is
defined as a feeling of tension that occurs when a person perceives that a given
situation is about to exceed one s ability to cope and consequently could endanger
one s well being (Hitt, Miller Colella, 2011). Stresson the job is usually the result of
people feeling inadequate and unable to perform the given duties of a position at a
high level. This could be the result of not having the tools necessary to complete the
work or having an outside need that is unable to be met while performing duties.
Today, we ll examine different types of stress and the effects that... Show more

Health problems can begin to add up over time as chronic stress is experienced.
Next, stress can either be positive or negative. Eustress is positive stress which can
be invigorating and create drive within an individual. This kind of stress causes an
individual to strive toward meeting goals. A project manager may experience
eustress as critical steps on a complicated project are completed successfully.
Dystress is negative stress and is the one most people think of when thinking of
stress in general (Hitt, Miller Colella, 2011). Dystress can lead to the chronic stress
symptoms like depression and anxiety. Stress can be further examined by exploring
the demand control model and effort reward model of workforce stress. The
demand control model analyzes the relationship between an individual s
workplace demands faced and control one has over meeting these demands. If the
workforce demands are high, but control over meeting these demands is low, job
strain is at its highest (Hitt, Miller Colella, 2011). An example of this would be
how a Best Buy associate is required to ask every customer if they would like to
purchase an extended warranty regardless of whether he or she thinks a customer
needs it or can afford it. The optimal result of a demand control model
Medical Emergency Characterized By Low Serum Glucose
Levels
Hypoglycaemia is a medical emergency characterized by low serum glucose levels
and if not treated correctly, can cause significant morbidity and mortality. (1 6)
Hypoglycaemia often occurs as a result of treatment for Diabetes Type 1 and 2, yet
can also affect non diabetic casualties. (1 4, 6 9) This paper will reflect on the pre
hospital clinical management of hypoglycaemia, by critically analysing a large
portion of Australian pre hospital treatment guidelines, in relation to international
practices, current evidence based literature and investigating potential areas for
change.

(3, 4, 11, 12) Furthermore, administration of glucagon to casualties in situations
where gluconeogenesis may be defective could paradoxically provoke hypoglycaemia
by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas. (4)
Current Australian Defence Force (ADF) treatment protocols mandate that Glucagon
administered IMI is the first line treatment in the management of severe
hypoglycaemia. (13) Guidelines direct that casualties who remain unresponsive to
glucagon after 10 minutes are then eligible for treatment with IV dextrose 50%. (13)
This appears unique to the ADF. The Ambulance Service of New South Wales
(ASoNSW) offers glucagon as a non essential treatment option along with dextrose
10%, while Ambulance Victoria (AV) directs that glucagon is administered only to
patients in whom IV access cannot be established. (14, 15) Queensland Ambulance
Service (QAS) stipulates dextrose 10%, independent of glucagon is the first line
treatment option for hypoglycaemic patients, unable to swallow oral glucose. (9)
Consideration of international protocols reveals a judicial approach to administration
of glucagon by New York City, Emergency Medical Services (NYCEMS), which

Jewish Americans Stand on Isreal and Palestin Conflict
Essay
The aim of this study was to explore among a sample of Jewish Americans the
prevalence of beliefs associated with intractable conflict and to test the role of
different beliefs in predicting individuals support for a compromise solution to the
Israeli Palestinian conflict. We found that the Jewish Americans we sampled tended
to agree with a sense of collective victimhood and the Jewish Israeli narrative on the
conflict. On the other hand they tended to disagree with the Palestinian narrative on
the conflict and with statements that dehumanized the Palestinians and on average
did not frame the conflict in terms of a zero sum game. Jewish Americans in our
sample tended to fall in the middle in terms of their endorsement of compromise...

It also appears that when controlling for variance explained by demographic variables
and attachment to Israel, education level emerges as a predictor for rejection of
peaceful solutions. Individuals who are more educated were more likely to refuse
concessions to the Palestinians. This finding can per haps be explained by the
influence of millions of dollars invested in engaging Jewish college students with
Israeli culture and the Israeli view of the conflict; thus spending more time informal
education leads to more refusal to compromise with the Palestinians (Beinart, 2010,
2012). The central focus of this study was the question of which belief suggested by
theorists best predicts individuals support for or rejection of peaceful solutions to
the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Our findings are in line with previous research from
Israel that suggests that dehumanization and a zero sum view on the conflict serve
an important role in predicting individuals support for the perpetuation of conflict
(Halperin et al., 2008; Halperin Bar Tal, 2011; Hammack et al., 2011; Maoz
Eidelson, 2007; Maoz McCauley, 2005, 2008). Importantly, our study contributes an
additional novel predictor to the current literature based on our operationalization of a
monolithic narrative on the conflict. The monolithic narrative variable, which is
based on the level of acceptance of the Jewish narrative on the conflict (i.e., we
intend to live in peace but we must continually defend

The Toilet Yes...those tales you ve heard are true.
The toilet was first patented in England in 1775, invented by one Thomas Crapper,
but the extraordinary automatic device called the flush toilet has been around for a
long time. Leonardo
Da Vinci in the 1400 s designed one that worked, at least on paper, and Queen
Elizabeth I reputably had one in her palace in Richmond in 1556, complete with
flushing and overflow pipes, a bowl valve and a drain trap. In all versions, ancient
and modern, the working principle is the same.
Tripping a single lever (the handle) sets in motion a series of actions. The trip handle
lifts the seal, usually a rubber flapper, allowing water to flow into the bowl. When the

The condenser fan helps cool it. The refrigerant is then forced through a thin tube, or
capillary tube, and as it escapes this restraint and is sucked back into a gas again,
absorbing some heat from the food storage compartment while it does so. The
evaporator fan distributes the chilled air. In a self defrosting refrigerator/freezer
model, moisture condenses into frost on the cold evaporator coils. The frost melts
and drains away when the coils are warmed during the defrost cycle which is
initiated by a timer, and ended by the defrost limiter, before the frozen food melts.
A small heater prevents condensation between the compartments, the freezer
thermostat turns the compressor on and off, and the temp control limits cold air
entering the fridge, by means of an adjustable baffle. Smoke Detectors Is your
smoke detector good at scaring to death spiders who carelessly tiptoe inside it?
Have you ever leapt out of the shower, clad only in you know what, to the piercing
tones of your alarm, triggered merely by your forgetting the close the bathroom
door? Is it supposed to do this? There are two types of smoke detectors on the
market; the photoelectric smoke detector and ionization chamber smoke detector. The
photoelectric type uses a photoelectric bulb that shines a beam of light through a
plastic maze, called a catacomb. The light is
How Does Political Climate Impact Libraries
The political climate in an influential factor in deciding how far reaching libraries
can be in the community it is in. Budget cuts made by politicians affect how much
librarians can provide with the funds that they are afforded. In another article written
by Paul Jaeger, Wake up the Nation: Public Libraries, Policy Making, and Political
Discourse calls for libraryand information science researchers to engage problems
of politics and policy making that impact libraries which will benefit libraries in
advocating their needs in the political process (Jaeger 61). Jaeger notes that there is
an interrelationship between policy, politics, and public libraries (Jaeger 61). For
example, a cycle occurs where libraries struggle to provide services
The Impact Of Humanism In The Renaissance
During the Renaissance, a program of study known as humanism, impacted
education, art, politics, and ultimately shaped the Italian Renaissance. Humanism is
defined as a program of study designed by Italians that emphasized the critical study
of Latin and Greek literature with the goal of understanding human nature. [1]
Humanism changed people s views and allowed them to start portraying people in a
more realistic and relatable way. Many artists began to drift away from religious
subjects and instead, began to focus more on individuals and their lives. In addition,
humanism also allowed people to create new architecture that resembled classical
constructions. Humanism impacted many visual arts, which include Leonardo da
Vincis Mona Lisa, Michelangelo s David, and Filippo Brunelleschi s Dome. The
Mona Lisa was painted between 1503 and 1506 by Leonardo da Vinci, and is one
of the most famous paintings in the world today. The painting is a portrait of Lisa
Gherardini, and was painted for her husband, Francesco del Giocondo. Humanism
has impacted this portrait in various ways. Lisa s smile has been described to be so
enigmatic [1] that people are still trying to interpret the feelings behind her smile.
The painting is greatly impacted by humanism as it focuses on realism and
relatability, allowing Lisa to be portrayed as an everyday woman with the same
flaws and impurities as anyone else. This differs from the Middle Agesas all people
used to be portrayed in such as
Essay The Cheese and the Worms
The Danger of Speaking Out
Carlo Ginzburg s The Cheese and the Worms: The Cosmos of a Sixteenth Century
Miller explores the trials of supposed heretic Domenico Scandella. Better known as
Menocchio, The Cheese and the Worms details his extensive beliefs about mistruths
in religion and is written as a micro history of the events of his trial. At a time when
religion and God were thought of as pure fact, Menocchio doubted their supreme
existence and this lead to his death by burning. When reviewing Ginzburg s account
of the trials, the sources of his many ideas come to light and these ideas show that
the Catholic Church and its members were scared the most by Menocchio s ideas
about the origins of earth. Although a miller by trade, ... Show more content on

However, Menocchio attacked a very integral part of Catholicism with force, thus
making his remarks appear very dangerous to the foundation of the Catholic
Church. Despite many warnings from his council, such as his lawyer telling him
to, tell them what they want to know (Ginzburg, 5), Menocchio was a free spirit
and wanted to speak his mind. While telling the court of his many thoughts, the
origins of these, at the time, very radical ideas were unknown. Although the court
documents prove that Menocchio had read many religious books, including an
unknown book thought to be the Koran, poems and other resources, it was
unlikely that he came up with all of his ideas from one single source. Menocchio s
ideas were more of a melting pot of various sources that had culminated in many
discontinuous and contradictory ideas. Menocchio drew from as many as 11
sources, most likely more, that led to his conclusions about the origins of earth as
well as what he thought were errors in the religion. It is likely that no single source
led to his thoughts on the Genesis. It is more likely that Menocchio compounded oral
history, The Bible and likely other sources to create his milk and cheese origins of the
earth theory. This multitude of sources compounded with the massive amounts of
information that came along with so many sources led to many contradictory ideas
seen during his trials. This, combined with his heretical ideas, lead to his ultimate
Episodic Memory Recall
Introduction: According to Levels of Processing framework, developed by Craik and
Lockhart (1972), the duration that a memory is held, is determined by the level at
which the information is encoded. Episodic memory recall is a cognitive process
involved in consolidating the information presented. The depth of processing
occurring during the encoding of a memory, relates to, how well information is
recalled later. To clarify, information that we process semantically (i.e., by its
meaning) comprises a deeper level of processing than information we process
structurally (i.e., appearance). Thus predicting, the deeper an individual processes
information, correlates with the duration a memory trace will last. Consequently,
memory is a by product... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this recent study identifies the depth to which information is encoded also
depends on the time spent on cognitively thinking about the information. Semantic
questions, as a result of deep processing do require more cognitive work to be done
than a structural or phonemic question. However, the ambiguity of the definition of
deep is dismantled through this study, due to the use of requiring double the
questions for structural and phonemic words. By doing so, we are evening out the
amount of cognitive capacity required to think about the word while still only using
one level of analysis. Therefore, the subject is now processing for about the same
duration of time for all three levels of

Expositiry Essay. 005 Essay Example Expository Sample 2 Examples For Thatsnotus

  • 1. Expositiry Essay Crafting an expository essay can be a challenging yet rewarding endeavor, requiring a balance of analytical skills, research proficiency, and effective communication. The difficulty lies in the demand for a clear, concise, and informative presentation of a specific topic. Firstly, one needs to thoroughly understand the subject matter and gather relevant information. This involves extensive research, often delving into various sources to ensure accuracy and depth of knowledge. Analyzing and organizing the gathered data becomes a critical step, as presenting information in a logical sequence is essential for clarity. The challenge intensifies when transitioning from research to writing. Maintaining a formal and objective tone while effectively communicating complex ideas can be demanding. Crafting a strong thesis statement that encapsulates the essay's main point adds another layer of complexity. Moreover, structuring the essay appropriately is crucial. Each paragraph should seamlessly connect to the next, offering a smooth flow of ideas. This requires careful consideration of transitions and ensuring that each paragraph contributes to the overall coherence of the essay. While maintaining objectivity, the writer must also engage the reader. Finding the right balance between providing information and keeping the essay interesting is a delicate task. Additionally, revising and refining the essay is a time-consuming process, demanding a keen eye for detail to eliminate inconsistencies, improve clarity, and enhance overall quality. In conclusion, writing an expository essay involves navigating through numerous challenges, from in-depth research and analytical thinking to effective communication and organizational skills. However, overcoming these challenges can result in a well-crafted piece that not only educates but captivates the reader. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other writing tasks, various resources are available, such as professional writing services. • 2. Essay on Pleasantville The movie Pleasantville , written, produced and directed by Gary Ross, approaches a period in America s history which subsequent generations idealise as a better and more stable society. He portrays this time period of the 1950s as a time when people and life were less complicated; a time when everyone knew their place in society. However, as the film ironically shows, this was a time when people were more ignorant, racist and most certainly sexist. Ross demolishes this illusion of the great 1950s American society by showing how its defects are gradually changed from blackand white to colour. Ross shows that change is inevitable once a catalyst for change is added to the ordered life of Pleasantville. Once David and Mary Sue begin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the romantic scene between Skip and Mary Sue, the viewer notices that Jennifer, as her Pleasantville character, Mary Sue, is the original catalyst of change within Pleasantville . Without her intervention change would not have been inevitable in Pleasantville . This intervention, however, was not a one way process. The viewer also can note that Jennifer originally hated Pleasantville but grew to accept it. This is clearly shown in the scene From the Tree of Knowledge (01:10:00), where Jennifer puts on the coat, a symbol of Pleasantville s old fashion dress. Supposedly because of the chill from the coming storm, she willingly puts on what she originally first stated she would never wear. This act was the initiator of her changing attitudes. Further by putting on glasses that symbolize nerdiness , reading a book and rejecting an offer to go out because she has to study , Jennifer shows that Pleasantville is changing her into Mary Sue. The arrival for the first time of a thunderstorm and rain to Pleasantville is a symbolic technique by director Ross to imply that those who embraced change had their former selves washed away. So Mary Sue, Bill and many of the teenagers become coloured people after the storm. They become different people no longer normal residents of Pleasantville. Bud is the second catalyst of change, yet most of the time when he does inflict change upon Pleasantville he does so
  • 3. The Rant By Andrew Case In The Rant by Andrew Case, the space that is presented to the audience is very irregular. The play begins outside at the front of a murder scene; tranquil and then harmful. The audience is then presented with a switch in locations to an interview room that is safe and secure. This transition between locations makes the audiencefeel as though time is moving by at an extremely fast rate but in reality, it is just scenes changing each moment. These transitions consistently keep the audience on their toes making them beg for more. As the playprogresses; scene by scene, the audience is presented with different rants from each character. The rant between Reeves and Mahnaz, Mahnaz to Stern, Mahnaz to Simmons, all come together to form one big story. This rapid alteration between rants causes time to seem as though it does not stand still, but instead remain hectic and out of control. Andrew Case, makes the play, to me, seem like a fast moving edge of seat thriller where the action swallows you and causes you to get involved in the conflict of the play. The mood that is formed helps show this predicament by portraying irritation, retribution, and a desire to find out what actually happened. The audience, and even the characters presented in the play, are now motivated to discover what actually happened on that front porch of that warm summer night in August. The entire play seems to come together in a very dramatic way which causes the allusion of time standing still to become

  • 6. The Racism Of Jackie Robinson Danny Bogue Mr. Wallace History Day 12 September 2014 Jackie Robinson He walks into the stadium...hopeful...yet aware of the prejudice exiting in the minds of the ignorant... in the minds of those who do not realize his journey will empower the victims of unjustified hate and he will change history. Jackie Robinson shattered the color barrier in the MLB despite racism that permeated throughout the league and in society in the 1940 s. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play major league baseball. He is a model or courage and fortitude for everyone, and has left a huge legacy in the baseball world and in the whole entire sports world. He was signed by the brooklyn Dodgers in April 15, 1947. This is when history was made. This paper will explain Jackie Robinson s life before his career as a dodger, how he played, the person behind the signing of Jackie, and most importantly how the fans treated him and how he was even a leader/what his legacy even was. Jack Roosevelt (Jackie) Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia on January 31, 1919. He was born to Mallie and Jerry Robinson. He was the first of 5 children and, like most last children, got the short end of the stick on everything. Jackie s parents got divorced when Jackie was just a few years old, he stayed with his mom. This was very hard for Jackie because it was very hard to be a African American in the early 1900 s, especially when you only have one parent. to you. After this happened Jackie and his
  • 7. Argumentative Essay About A Soccer Game I happened to be on outdoor sandy field experiencing different mixed emotions as I saw people with several face expression at the end of the big soccer game. It was exhausting and unforgiving game that got some players injured, and caused the bad sportsmanship to take place between the coaches, players, and fans. Our fans and our rival s fans fought each other, and they threw stuff across the stadium as if they were dealing with a gigantic wild animal. Some of the playerscouldn t fully focus on their soccer match due to their divided attention, and some of them were terrified by the fan s unnecessary acts. Whenever I think about this moment, I cry and smile at same time because we finally understood the meaning of fair play of soccer, and happy ending of our game occurred as a result of that. I knew before the game that the unsportsmanlike conduct would happen, it really did as I thought, but besides our soccer game s dirty side, it appeared to be more captivating by the way it was played than any other game. I believe that there were three causes for the ungentlemanly behavior that we faced during the tournament. Both my team and the rival team fought to death in order to win the important soccer league because neither of the teams made it to the final game before. They always face each other during the knockout games which made them rivals. Finally, the beauty of the game also had an effect for why the match took place to be played dirty. Once the
  • 8. Symptoms And Treatment Of Infection Control Infection Control Since the manual handling task requires close contact with the patient, all handlers should follow strict infection control protocols in ICU. A recent study showed that by strictly following infection control protocols the incidence of hospital acquired infections could be reduced (8). In addition, an observational study concluded that better hospital wide infection control would reduce the number of MRSA positive patients admitted to ICU and acquisition of MRSA within ICU (9). Therefore, it is important to minimize the spread of the infection by performing the following aseptic techniques. Hand washing is the most important methods of preventing the spread of infection (7). Radiographers should wash their hands before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there is no universal approach and best practices must be adapted to fit the epidemiology of specific ICUs and should also consider the available resources (10). Radiation safety Radiation safety of patients, radiographers and other individuals in ICU should be considered according to the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principle. General radiation safety principles include time, distance and shielding (7). Since the patient is male, no pregnancy check is needed. To protect the patient, the length of time that a patient remains in the path of the x ray beam should be minimized. Therefore, it is important for radiographers to avoid unnecessary repeats and thus unnecessary exposure. Gonad shielding should be used on patients if possible, which is particularly important for young patients. In addition, proper collimations and adjusted exposure factors should be applied according to patient situations to minimize radiation dose (7). Radiographers should protect themselves as well. The time spent in radiation fields should be limited by taking shifts. Radiographers should stand as far away from source as possible to increase distance between radiation source and themselves. They should stand behind appropriate radiation shields or, more commonly, wear appropriate protection (7). According to a previous study, leadapron is the most common method of radiation protection as it may
  • 9. What Is Literary Nonsense In Alice In Wonderland Nonsense Nonsense Literature or Literary Nonsense balances elements that make sense with some that do not with the effect of subverting language conventions or logical reasoning even though the most well known form of literary nonsense is nonsense verse. The effect of nonsense is often caused by an excess of meaning rather than a lack of it it s humor is derived from it s nonsensical nature rather than wit or the joke of a punchline. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, who is better known as Lewis Carroll, has authored diverse amount of poems, novels, and short stories in his career. The Hunting of the Snark display his wonderful ability in the genre of literary nonsense. However, Carroll is most distinguished for his infant s nonsense novels: Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and the sequel Through the Looking Glass. His work, principally the two mentioned, have inspire many people over the years. Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are designed for a child s entertainment, but both books are full of symbolism. To lectors with no experience with Carroll s work, this term seems to describe Carroll s confusing and often rambling style perfectly, but when more thoroughly inspected, it becomes obvious that this nonsense has a far more profound meaning. Alice s Adventures in Wonderland is about a young girl, Alice, who gets bored doing her multiplication tables one day and follows a white rabbit into a hole. Through this hole, she ends up falling into
  • 10. Historical Context Of Babylon Revisited Knowing the historical context of a work is crucial to understanding both its general meaning and its deeper essence. Often times, authors use their works as outlets to freely express their personal feelings toward a social trend or issue. As such, the time in which a story is written can have a strong influence on the message the author is trying to convey to his or her reader. Their personal reflections can be asserted in many ways; among the most common being through the characters themselves and their development throughout the work, the setting, and the implied themes. An example of a work that is heavily influenced by the time period in which it was written is F. Scott Fitzgerald s short story Babylon Revisited. Set in Paris during the 1920s, this work delineates the story of a man named Charlie Wales who was at the pinnacle of his life when he succumbed to greed, irresponsibility, and addiction. As a result of his carelessness, Wales experiences a tragic downfall. He not only endures the death of his wife Helen, but he also loses his material fortune, his reputation, and most importantly the custody of his daughter Honoria. The time in which this story occurs the 1920s is vital to the plot. Dubbed The Roaring 20s, this period is notorious for glamorizing lifestyles centered around materialism, gluttony, and self absorption. The early 20th century brought about extreme social and political changes that influenced the lifestyles and attitudes of the public.

Triage categories might vary depending on types of disaster and the country involved in the incident, but generally disaster triage are divided into four categories. Black tag indicates the most severely injured patients who are deceased or under conditions that are beyond help. Red tag indicates the injured patients who need immediate help for survival and should be immediately transported. Yellow tag indicates the injured patients who are in urgent conditions but their treatments can be delayed. Green tag... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes it might be hard to categorize a patient into a specific category due to the complexity of the individual s health status. In mass casualty situations, out of hospital health care workers may be asked to serve as triage officers in the field, despite the fact that they have less experience and training than the senior emergency physicians and trauma surgeons who usually perform this task at hospitals. However, the triage system has been developed and improved over time in order to help triage officers with drawing the fine line between each color category and creating a more standardized system of patient evaluation. The Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment protocol suggests that a new category (Triage tag: Blue) be inserted between the patients who need immediate transport and those with significant injuries, but who can wait for treatment. This revision of the system is hoping to relieve these out of hospital providers from the fear of making grievous errors by triaging some salvageable patients to the expectant category. This would effectively still give priority patients the most access to medical resources while making sure that no one was left to die because of a triage error. The creation of the new category embodies the essential idea of

Australia s electricity emissions are high because we mostly rely (77%) on coal for electricity and coal is the most greenhouse intensive fuel (WWF). Australia has the highest per capita greenhouse gas emissions. The per capita carbon footprint in Australia was rated 12th in the world by PNAS in 2011, considerably large when taking into account the small population of the country. According to the CSIRO and Garnaut Climate Change Review, climate change is expected to have multiple effects on many species, regions, activities and infrastructure and areas of the economy and public health in Australia. The Australian Climate Commission (closed as of 2013) had created reports to highlight the likely impacts of climate change according to different regions. According to these reports in 2012, heat waves, bush fires and flooding will only get worse and intensify each time because of the climate change. This will worsen the impacts on people, property, communities and the environment. Australia s high fire risk increases the risks related to change in temperature and climate. Australia s population is highly condensed in coastal areas, and Australia s tourism industry depends on the health of the Great Barrier Reef and other fragile ecosystems (Pittock, Barry 2007). Australia has one of the worlds largest and diverse ecosystems, this poses an extreme threat because these ecosystems are most fragile and are at risk of damage if exposed to climate change. The

Once they have demonstrated this action a predetermined retention interval, the time between the demonstrated action and the Do it! command, of one minute or one hour would be waited before the owner gave the dogthe Do it! command. This test requires the assumption that a successful imitation of the demonstrated action was possible only if dogs encoded the action incidentally. It can be assumed that the imitation test was unexpected as there was no motivation for the dogs to remember the actions meaning that the test meets the requirements for testing episodic memory, which is assessed by an unexpected recall test. In order to investigate the imitation success of the dogs in the experiment were statistically analyzed to determine if the dog s actions match their owners. Because of the imagery presented during the funeral, it is safe to assume that Abuela s death also represents the death of the Spanish part of John Grady. During the time of the slavery movement, the primary goal for writing slave stories such as, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Property was to gain some sort of sympathy within the white community and gain support to stop slavery. As both of these narratives are written from the female perspective, the two stories show the harsh reality and the ironic nature of sexual exploitation through language and imagery. The two narratives revolve around many literary elements to help shape the story along with similar story patterns that took place during the particular time period. Within Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, the narrative is often interrupted by the social and political aspects that occur and Property really focuses on the personal relationships that go on between the slave owners and their slaves, in particular the relationship between man and women and woman to woman. Memi And Sabu And The Seated Statue Of Gudea The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu and The Seated Statue of Gudea are two historic statues dating back 2000 years B.C. that have been displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The subjects represented in both statues display a strength in human relationships. They also both bear emotional and physical similarities. Memi and Sabu and Gudea also have many differing characteristics such as their medium and historical value. This essay will further describe the similarities and differences between The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu and The Seated Statue of Gudea. The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu is constructed of limestone. Limestone is an organic sedimentary rock composed of skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral and mollusks. It is very common and is still frequently used in architecture and art. It is long lasting and stands up well to exposure. Landmarks such as the Great Pyramids were constructed of limestone (Cassar, 2010). The seated Statue of Gudea is sculpted of diorite. Diorite is the traditional base material in the construction of roads and parking areas. It is considered difficult to sculpt with because of its hardness and variable composition. For those reasons, it is not a stone often used by sculptors nowadays. It was popular among ancient sculptors of the Middle East (Diorite, n.d.). The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu and The Seated Statue of Gudea are similar in size but still relatively small in size.

The three big cases that we will look at are Baxter v. Montana, Lee v. state of Oregon, and Washington v. Glucksberg. These cases are the reason that the five states have legalized assisted suicide and the reason for it. In Baxter v. Montana a 75 year old retired truck driver had a terminal form of leukemia. He was getting chemotherapy for it, but that will only get you so far. He began to get fatigue, nausea, and his glands started to swell. After the infections started the pain became unbearable for him. So he wanted the option of assisted suicide, but at this point in time it was illegal in the state of Montana. So the plaintiff of the case sued the state of Montana and said that the homicide statute was unconstitutional. The Montana supreme court looked into this case and previous assisted suicide cases. And the issue they found was whether the consent of the patient to the physician s aid in dying could constitute a statutory defense to a homicide charge. But in Montana there is an exception to the consent defense, where the public can not cause harm to anyone even with their consent. So the supreme court looked even deeper into another Montana case that was just for public

It is the control center of the body and it s important to understand the complexity of the human brain. The brain is just like the computer, it depends on certain parts to work correctly and get every day jobs and even more complex jobs done. Then you have the Hypothalamus which monitors the blood levels of glucose, salt, blood pressure, and hormones. It also helps to control the processes in the body through its connection to the central and autonomic nervous systems and endocrine system. The Cerebral Cortex The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is divided into two equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the same four areas called lobes. Areas in the lobes control all forms of conscious experience, perception, emotion, thought, and planning, as well as many unconscious and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor control and cognitive activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the present to the future through purpose. The parietal lobe controls the sensory process, spatial interpretation, attention, and language understanding. The occipital lobe controls the process of visual information and passes its conclusions to the parietal and temporal lobes. This leads me to the temporal lobe which assists in auditory perception, language comprehension, and visual recognition. Many scientist, philosophers, and theologians have been intrigued by these questions. Through Augustine s Confessions and E. O. Wilson s In Search of Nature, one is accessible to two distinct perspectives concerning the nature of good and evil. Augustine sets up an argument in his Confession that attempts to define evil. Augustine approaches this issue from an entirely different perspective. He asks: Do we have any good evidence that God exists? If He does, is He good? Since all that God created is good and evil is not good, then evil is not something that God created. This was Augustine s solution, but the question still remains: What is evil? He observed that everything God made is good and when you take away from goodness from something God made, we call that condition evil. Another way of putting it is that evil is the lack of good. In this solution, good has substance whereas evil does not; it is merely good that is missing. If it does not have any substance, then it does not require a creator. To say that something is evil is a shorthand way of saying it lacks goodness. Augustine goes on to explain how such a thing can be, and gets into a discussion about free will. E. O. Wilson s In Search of Nature, specifically The Serpent , displays evil in terms of the Serpent. The snake s image enters the conscious and unconscious mind with ease during reverie and dreams. It appears without warning and departs abruptly, leaving behind not a specific memory of any real snake but the vague sense of a more powerful creature (Wilson 5). One may observe that evil can

If the results of a background investigation are favorably adjudicated, the individual is eligible to receive a security clearance; if certain derogatory information is obtained during the background investigation, an individual can be denied a security clearance. Problem: Although much personal and private information is obtained and reviewed during most background investigations, there is one glaring omission of information that can prove to be valuable in determining the suitability for an individual to obtain a security clearance. The information listed on an individual s social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Internet Chat rooms) can provide invaluable insight into a subject s character, integrity, loyalty, allegiance and other characteristics

History has proven people group together for survival, whether that be warmth, food, or protection. The idea was that a group is stronger and more profitable than one person acting alone. Each tribe or gathering of individuals working together is considered a society. A society is nothing more than a group of people living together for a common purpose, or simply because it is more convenient. But, if all societies were thriving entities, then we would not know the hardships that have repeated throughout history, such as, poverty and famine. On the contrary, a society that works well is a society that works for the well being of its individualmembers. A high functioning and successful society is built on a foundation of trust and equality and enforced by a governing body. Trust in people is merely a relationship of reliance and an intrinsic part of human nature. It is established at the family level and expands outward as the child matures. Each being depends on their families to provide as one depends on educators to teach. Furthermore, trust is necessary for institutions such as schools, hospitals, businesses, and even the government to effectively operate. The workforce expects their employers to give a cash able paycheck in return for their hard worked hours; consumers give a business compensation on the basis of receiving a product or service in return; and individuals put their

The narrator of the story, who we follow through the story is 1st person narrator, we gets his own view of the factory. One thing we should remember while reading the story is that we hear the thoughts and opinions from his point of view, so that doesn t necessarily that it s all true. We know that he is a male only because someone at the factory wants to find him a female partner. He works at the factory, so we meet him there. In the words of our main character, he would run around with a knife, threatening him. It scared him, but at the same time it wasn t a big deal at all, since he would casually ask customers if he had a knife in his back. Apparently the mad man drove a forklift, and that was a big deal. That meant he got more that double the payment compared to the other workers at the factory. He was also said to have forklift swagger, with a certain way of moving. In that way, our main character is not like the others at all, he wants to get out and he doesn t think he is being treated right. The story ends with him leaving the factory and never coming back. There are definitely some symbols in the text. For example when he mentions the sandwiches. The narrator is mad about his job, his co workers and the managers. He compares it to the tomatoes in the sandwich, stinging his soul with its acid. Thereafter he dreams of a place where he could stand and silently watch the tomatoes passing him, by with a note of a agony at the conveyer belt. I have chosen the text nice work, by David Lodge and the picture Relativity, which is painted by M.C. Escher. I find the picture and the text very comparable, because they re both very monotone and gray. The picture illustrates the described factory. There is no individualism, no happiness or passion shown. The short story expresses the same feeling, it is very monotone. In the text nice work we read about Robyn Penrose s visit to an automobile

Regression is one of the defence mechanisms identified by Freud. According to Freud there are times when people are faced with circumstances that make them feel at such unease and threatened, that they cannot deal with it and they protect themselves, by retreating to an earlier stage of development. Many children who use regression as a defence mechanism, may begin to suck their thumb again. Freud s Psychosexual Stages of Development Freud identified five stages of psychosexual development, namely: The oral stage, anal stage, phallic stage, latency stage and genital stage. The oral stage of development, begins at birth (even prenatally) and ends approximately, when the child is one year old. The source of libido or pleasure and conflict, is the mouth. The child will enjoy sucking, feeding, and putting things in their mouth. The psychological theme here is dependency. Babies can do very little for themselves, and this would be the time where they are cared for deeply by their mothers and their most intimate bonding time. When a child is deprived of this and his/ her needs are not properly fulfilled it can lead to an oral fixation or overindulgence in their later life. Fixation in this stage could lead to problems such as smoking, nail biting, pen chewing, overeating, alcoholism, sarcasm and verbal hostility. (Sammons,

  • 40. Analysis Of The Psychodynamic Approach The psychodynamic approach was developed by Sigmund Freud between 1890 and 1930. Psychodynamic approach in psychology emphasizes on systematic study of the psychological forces that underline human behaviour , feelings and emotions and how these relate to early experience (Hill,2001). The basis of this approach is that psychological factors play a major role in determining behaviour and shaping personality. Freud (1961) divided the human mind into three parts the id, ego and superego so as to determine and understand the root causes of unusual behaviour. Psychodynamic approach helps the individual to recognize the unconscious which have an impact on behaviour. Nonetheless, psychodynamic approach helps to focus on childhood past experience and the impact on present behaviour (Freud,1925). However, the psychodynamic approach is very determinist as it says that suffering childhood traumas lead to abnormal behaviour in adulthood (Mcleod,2015). As a result it ignores the influence of genes, biological components and thinking patterns (Freud,1961). Furthermore, psychoanalysis depends on the therapist interpretation of what the client says. As a result the concepts can be biased as they are based on the therapist intervention. Hope Is A Thing With Feathers Metaphor Explication of hope is a thing with feathers In hope is a thing with feathers Emily Dickinson uses a metaphor that compares hope to a bird and imagery to describe hope as a bird. She tells the readers that hope is small and fragile, but it can survive the worst of situations without asking for anything in return. She starts the first stanza by saying the following, hope is a thing with feathers . By this she creates a metaphorical image of a bird to describe the image of hope without explicitly saying so. The word feathers gives the reader the image of a bird, but it can also symbolize the feathers as something that can help you fly or escape to something better. The next lines continue this imagery by saying, (hope) that perches in the soul . These two lines create the image that hope is not just a word, but something that lives in your soul. The word perches is a birdlike quality and supports the image of hope as a bird. Another way to look at the word perch is that it could be a metaphor for a home. When the Okies are starving and sick and in dire need of help, the narrator says, Frantic men pounded on the doors of the doctors; and the doctors were busy. And sad men left word at country stores for the coroner to send a car. The coroners were not too busy. The coroners wagons backed up through the mud and took out the dead (Steinbeck 434). This sad excerpt shows how drastically the value of money and people s lives can be misinterpreted. Since these doctors knew that they would receive no pay from the Okies, they simply ignored their cries for help. In stark contrast, the coroners are paid to collect dead bodies, and therefore are more than willing to come and take the bodies of those who could ve been saved. This blatant disregard for human life, in unity with this excessive preoccupation on the almighty dollar, synthesize to expose to us how central a theme this truly is. • 49. The Concept of Comparative Advantage The comparative advantage The concept of the comparative advantage was first coined in 1817 by economist David Ricardo, in his On the principles of political economy and taxation. The underlying idea of the comparative advantage theory is that the countries possess different resources and capabilities and they can produce some specific items in a more efficient manner than other countries can produce the same items, or more efficiently that the same country can produce other items. In such a setting then, the countries would best decide to produce the items for which they possess a comparative advantage, and then exchange them within the international market place, for items for the production of which they do not possess a comparative advantage (Pullen, 2006). Today, the application of the comparative advantage is revealed mostly at the level of the leading economic powers in the world, who seek to create advantages in terms of exports, and as such maximize their gains (Acharya, 2008). The concept and application of the comparative advantage theory has raised vast interest throughout the past century, and this interest is revealed at both theoretical and well as practical level. Furthermore, as the modern day society becomes more and more engaged in globalization and market liberalization, the application of the comparative advantage theory is gaining more momentum. Dystress is negative stress and is the one most people think of when thinking of stress in general (Hitt, Miller Colella, 2011). The demand control model analyzes the relationship between an individual s workplace demands faced and control one has over meeting these demands. If the workforce demands are high, but control over meeting these demands is low, job strain is at its highest (Hitt, Miller Colella, 2011). The refrigerant is then forced through a thin tube, or capillary tube, and as it escapes this restraint and is sucked back into a gas again, absorbing some heat from the food storage compartment while it does so. The evaporator fan distributes the chilled air. In a self defrosting refrigerator/freezer model, moisture condenses into frost on the cold evaporator coils. The frost melts and drains away when the coils are warmed during the defrost cycle which is initiated by a timer, and ended by the defrost limiter, before the frozen food melts. A small heater prevents condensation between the compartments, the freezer thermostat turns the compressor on and off, and the temp control limits cold air entering the fridge, by means of an adjustable baffle. Smoke Detectors Is your smoke detector good at scaring to death spiders who carelessly tiptoe inside it? Have you ever leapt out of the shower, clad only in you know what, to the piercing tones of your alarm, triggered merely by your forgetting the close the bathroom door? Is it supposed to do this? There are two types of smoke detectors on the market; the photoelectric smoke detector and ionization chamber smoke detector. The photoelectric type uses a photoelectric bulb that shines a beam of light through a plastic maze, called a catacomb. The light is
  • 55. How Does Political Climate Impact Libraries The political climate in an influential factor in deciding how far reaching libraries can be in the community it is in. Budget cuts made by politicians affect how much librarians can provide with the funds that they are afforded. In another article written by Paul Jaeger, Wake up the Nation: Public Libraries, Policy Making, and Political Discourse calls for libraryand information science researchers to engage problems of politics and policy making that impact libraries which will benefit libraries in advocating their needs in the political process (Jaeger 61). Jaeger notes that there is an interrelationship between policy, politics, and public libraries (Jaeger 61). For example, a cycle occurs where libraries struggle to provide services
  • 56. The Impact Of Humanism In The Renaissance During the Renaissance, a program of study known as humanism, impacted education, art, politics, and ultimately shaped the Italian Renaissance. Humanism is defined as a program of study designed by Italians that emphasized the critical study of Latin and Greek literature with the goal of understanding human nature. [1] Humanism changed people s views and allowed them to start portraying people in a more realistic and relatable way. Many artists began to drift away from religious subjects and instead, began to focus more on individuals and their lives. In addition, humanism also allowed people to create new architecture that resembled classical constructions. Humanism impacted many visual arts, which include Leonardo da Vincis Mona Lisa, Michelangelo s David, and Filippo Brunelleschi s Dome. The Mona Lisa was painted between 1503 and 1506 by Leonardo da Vinci, and is one of the most famous paintings in the world today. The painting is a portrait of Lisa Gherardini, and was painted for her husband, Francesco del Giocondo. Humanism has impacted this portrait in various ways. Lisa s smile has been described to be so enigmatic [1] that people are still trying to interpret the feelings behind her smile. The painting is greatly impacted by humanism as it focuses on realism and relatability, allowing Lisa to be portrayed as an everyday woman with the same flaws and impurities as anyone else. This differs from the Middle Agesas all people used to be portrayed in such as

Essay The Cheese and the Worms The Danger of Speaking Out Carlo Ginzburg s The Cheese and the Worms: The Cosmos of a Sixteenth Century Miller explores the trials of supposed heretic Domenico Scandella. Better known as Menocchio, The Cheese and the Worms details his extensive beliefs about mistruths in religion and is written as a micro history of the events of his trial. At a time when religion and God were thought of as pure fact, Menocchio doubted their supreme existence and this lead to his death by burning. When reviewing Ginzburg s account of the trials, the sources of his many ideas come to light and these ideas show that the Catholic Church and its members were scared the most by Menocchio s ideas about the origins of earth. Although a miller by trade, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Menocchio attacked a very integral part of Catholicism with force, thus making his remarks appear very dangerous to the foundation of the Catholic Church. Despite many warnings from his council, such as his lawyer telling him to, tell them what they want to know (Ginzburg, 5), Menocchio was a free spirit and wanted to speak his mind. While telling the court of his many thoughts, the origins of these, at the time, very radical ideas were unknown. Although the court documents prove that Menocchio had read many religious books, including an unknown book thought to be the Koran, poems and other resources, it was unlikely that he came up with all of his ideas from one single source. Menocchio s ideas were more of a melting pot of various sources that had culminated in many discontinuous and contradictory ideas. Menocchio drew from as many as 11 sources, most likely more, that led to his conclusions about the origins of earth as well as what he thought were errors in the religion. It is likely that no single source led to his thoughts on the Genesis. It is more likely that Menocchio compounded oral history, The Bible and likely other sources to create his milk and cheese origins of the earth theory. This multitude of sources compounded with the massive amounts of information that came along with so many sources led to many contradictory ideas seen during his trials. This, combined with his heretical ideas, lead to his ultimate
  • 58. Episodic Memory Recall Introduction: According to Levels of Processing framework, developed by Craik and Lockhart (1972), the duration that a memory is held, is determined by the level at which the information is encoded. Episodic memory recall is a cognitive process involved in consolidating the information presented. The depth of processing occurring during the encoding of a memory, relates to, how well information is recalled later. To clarify, information that we process semantically (i.e., by its meaning) comprises a deeper level of processing than information we process structurally (i.e., appearance). Thus predicting, the deeper an individual processes information, correlates with the duration a memory trace will last. Consequently, memory is a by product... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this recent study identifies the depth to which information is encoded also depends on the time spent on cognitively thinking about the information. Semantic questions, as a result of deep processing do require more cognitive work to be done than a structural or phonemic question. However, the ambiguity of the definition of deep is dismantled through this study, due to the use of requiring double the questions for structural and phonemic words. By doing so, we are evening out the amount of cognitive capacity required to think about the word while still only using one level of analysis. Therefore, the subject is now processing for about the same duration of time for all three levels of
