Rhetor s Argument Analysis
Although convincing the audience that the rhetor is intelligent does not mean that they can be fully
trusted. An essential part of establishing ethos is assessing the rhetor s ethical appeal. This
approach appeals to the audience s ethical judgment, this can be in the form of a passionate
delivery or even a simple claim that matter is unjust (Jasinski, 2001). The rhetor fails to provide any
limitations or alternative evidence to the example studies given. There was a lack of mutual ground
for both sides of the argument, even though this was an advantage in persuading, the improper
approach caused questionable trust in the rhetor s work. Additionally, the rhetor establishes
credibility by the publication of the artifact. This video was published... Show more content on

Identification of present elements involves identifying the basic observable features of the artifact.
These can be embedded in the artifacts major arguments, types of evidence, images, particular
terms, or metaphors. A critic using ideological criticism examines the artifact for individual sings
that point to ideological tenets. Then they recognize the suggested elements linked to the presented
elements. The analyst then articulates ideas, themes, concepts, or references that are suggested by
the presented elements. This is where the meanings of the ideological tenets are identified. Within
the artifact there were several presented elements rooted in the major argument. The first element
presented was time. The suggesting element related to this presented element is that individuals
only seem to appreciate this fact in retrospect; only when we look backwards do we realize how
much change happens in a decade. The artifact is mainly suggesting the one constant in our life is
change. The rhetor closes his talk by sharing that the person you are right now is temporary and as
short lived as all the people you have ever been. The rhetor then states a conclusion that the bottom
line is time is a powerful

The Goddess Of The Earth Essay
The darkness fills a land where evil runs unopposed, illuminated by the five gushing rivers that
characterize the land, each unique to their region of hell. At the center, the infamous river of Styx
flows from Oceanus, creating a boundary between the land of the living and the land of the dead.
The Kokytos river branches southward off of Styx feeding into the marsh. On the other side of the
marsh, the Acheron river ebbs and flows southeast. Northwest of Styx, towards the Gates of Ivory
lays the waters of Lethe, the river of forgetfulness. Circling the Northern region of Tartarus flows
Phlegethon, winding like a python ready to choke the life out of its prey. Close to Phelegethon,
east of Tartus, is the plain of Judgments where cries of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mi lady, came a death whisper that filled the silence in an uncanny hollow way. Mi lord has
returned.
Assured that the spirit could hear that her heart rate pounding in her ears, Proserpina forced her
sob down and refused to cry out in agony. Damned to this land just as much as she was, Pluto s
return came as no shock. She just thought she had a few more days free of her husband, king,
and tormentor. Not for the first time her anger for Jupiter burned in her heart, for surely he would
have control over Pluto enough to force her release, but no the gods were powerless. Not for the
first time, Proserpina wished she would have died slowly instead of eating those seeds prolonging
her suffering.
Mi lady, whispered the Laureus. With the speed of Mercury, Proserpina unsheathed her dagger
and launched it towards the Laureus head. With a hellish scream the deposed demon dissipated
before her. Proserpina grinned at her blade, as she bent to pick it up and place it back in its sheath.
If only she could do that to her husband, she would be free.
When the spirit rematerialized, Proserpina acceded and followed the spirit through the palace and
went to the throne room at the heart of the palace. Her husband stood regally on his dais and leered
down at her as she approaches the steps the way he did every time he summoned her. Breathing
deeply through her nose, she performed the ridiculous roman ritual

Stereotypes In South Park
South Park is a fictionalized animated account of a group of grade school friends who live in
Colorado. The show is what s known as an equal opportunity offender. It takes no prisoners when
it comes to stereotypes of religion, sex, race and gender. An abundance of sociological concepts
and social issues are present. Since its start in 1989 it has taken on social issues with
unparalleled bravery, one of them gender. Many episodes pit the guys against the girls and the
battle of the sexes and break ups ensue. In the episode Marjorine, a male character named Butters
infiltrates a girl s sleepover to retrieve a device that tells the future (it s really just a paper fortune
teller) and hilarity and social high jinks ensue. He has to endure... Show more content on

Many religions are mocked and torn apart by the show s creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. They
mock Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Scientology. One example of South Parkmocking the
Jewish faith is the names of the two boys who are brothers and belong to the Jewish faith. Their
names, Kyle and Ike, when put together, form the word Kike, a derogatory name for Jews.
Religion is portrayed literally with its figureheads walking the streets of South Park. For
example, Muhammad, the prophet of the Islamic faith, cannot be insulted without becoming
enraged, much like radical Islamic terrorists today. The story of Scientology is told frankly and
with embarrassing detail in the episode titled, The Return of Chef. For example, they mock L.
Ron Hubbard s version of a spaceship hovering above Earth by portraying the vessel as a golden
Boeing 747 that came from outer space to Earth. The shows characters are amazed and
bamboozled by this ridiculous story, yet some of them foolishly, like certain people and high
profile stars, buy into it as

The Udhr And The Different World Viewpoints On Human...
The UDHR and the Different World Viewpoints on Human Rights
Accepted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights (UDHR) is comprised of a preamble and thirty articles. Each article delineates a specific right
that every human, either from the sake of being human and/or being part of the collective of
humanity, is forever entitled to. On the flip side, the preamble is comprised of seven clauses that
taken together accommodate the historical evolution, context, and reasoning behind the document s
inscription. Finally, at the end of the preamble is the declaration s proclamation, whose inclusion
solidifies the documents global significance. Given the historical time period that the UDHR was
conceived in, its thirty rights are quite an astonishing list. However, in today s times, the UDHR
does not mention a series of rights that the international community has, in some places more than
others, started to accept since 1948. In general, this trend can be easily noticed in how the
declaration phrases rights pertaining to the different sexes and/or genders. In not one of the thirty
articles, do the words sexual orientation or abortion appear, nor is there any mention that humans
have the right to be gay, queer, bisexual etc. At least in the United States, it has become more and
more accepted that human beings have the right to whatever sexual orientation that they innately
possess. Therefore, they are allowed to marry whoever they

Reasons For The Compromise Of 1877
Following the Compromise of 1877, many supporters of black rights, such as freed slaves or
radical Republicans, believed that conditions for freed blacks were worse than they had been when
they were enslaved. Though there were definitely upsides to freedom from slavery, many
conditions blacks lived under either didn t change or got worse after the Compromise. For example,
the removal of the military from the South allowed the southern government to pass laws limiting
blacks rights, meaning the social, political and economic conditions after the compromise were
similar to the ones they had lived with under slavery; the legalization of segregation made it more
difficult for blacks to influence white perception of their race; and violence against blacks
increased, and white protection of them decreased, as many saw them as less valuable once they
had been released from slavery. The compromise ended the reconstruction, which meant that the
military presence in the south, which had been virtually the only thing keeping a semblance of
order, was removed. This resulted in widespread and often unpunished violence against blacks. It
also left the southern government free to operate by itself, and measures were quickly taken to
limit the rights of blacks. Education budgets were cut, sharecropping regulations were changed in
order to favor plantation owners, and the right to vote was taken away from blacks. Blacks were
free from slavery, but they had nearly the exact same

Gun Control and Self Protection Essay
Gun control is probably one of the most debatable concerns in the constitution. There are many
scenarios in which you can see the good in pro gun control and also other scenarios where con gun
control is good. Gun control should not be a plan the U.S government should take because there
are many cases in which a firearmwill determine you from death or life. And the right to carry a
firearm is like the right to protect our freedom, and to self defend ourselves. Firearms are used
defensively roughly 2.5 million times per year, more than four times as many as criminal uses.
This amounts to 2,575 lives protected for every life lost to a gun. (SAF) The people that are most
concerned by this issue are those that have lost someone close to them... Show more content on

Firearms are your defense from criminals. If we are not to have our 2nd amendment our crime rates
will increase because criminals will invade houses more freely because they know that that
citizen doesn t have a firearm or another words protection .Also new types of crimes will
probably be created such as home invasion robberies or car hackings. Not only that but a rise in
intimidation where criminals will intimidate people to give up their valuables so they can avoid
being injured by the criminal. Also if we are not to have firearms the 5,285 children will be alive
but our nation will be enduring more violence then it already is enduring. If we are to keep our
2nd amendment we will have better chances of surviving in a situation in which we are attacked or
aggravated by a criminal. If we are to call 9 1 1 when we are getting aggravated the police would
take longer than if we had a firearm and protected ourselves. The fastest growing group of gun
owners is women. (SAF) This is probably because 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or
sexually assaulted in 2006. That s more than 600 women every day. These were only the cases
that were reported to the police. (NOW) Even though these statistics are hard to believe there is
still a women that thinks, ...I don t believe gun owners have right. (Brady) Without guns there
would probably be double rape cases then what there is now. Also a firearm is usually only given

Creationism Vs Evolutionism Essay
Evolutionism vs Creationism has been one of the largest ongoing debates ever since Charles
Darwin threw his theory on the table. So far, neither argument has enough evidence to be proven,
yet we still teach one as fact in public education. Every genesis is dependent on trust and
acceptance. Religious theories, such as Creationism, require a belief in an intelligent God or in
gods, which can neither be proved nor disproved. Evolutionrequires faith in chance, time, and
natural selectionto explain the precision tuned conditions that make Earth perfect for life. The
Big Bang concept requires acceptance of something we cannot see (See Space.com or Universe
Today). Today, evolution is one of main geneses being taught in public education. It has, however,
several holes that are often avoided when taught. Let s just take a look at the origin of life. Life
could not have started in the presence of oxygen, like that in our atmosphere. Evolutionists claim
earth s early atmosphere was void of oxygen. Scientific evidence today shows that earth s early
atmosphere may have had even more oxygen than today. Even allowing that theory, without oxygen
there would be no ozone and, without ozone, life would have burnt from the ultraviolet radiation.
To account for this, evolutionists say life started underwater. The water would have quickly split
the molecules of any proteins that formed. Furthermore, of the 2,000 amino acids that exist, only
around 20 are used in life. Every amino acid in proteins... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is even more at the Answers in Genesis website. Creationists do not have all the answers,
either. Nor do they have scientific evidence that can prove whether God exists or not. In the light of
this obscurity, other genesis possibilities should be taught in public education and included in
standardized tests. In such an information oriented world, why would we want to keep information

Is Friar Lawrence a Good Man, Evil Character or Simply a...
Friar Lawrence plays a strong central character throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet. The Friar
is linked to both the Capulet s and the Montague s through religion and the church. Friar
Lawrence is presented as a holy man who is trusted and respected by the community because he
is a priest. Friar Lawrence is an advisor and close friend to Romeo. This is apparent when Romeo
addresses the Friar as father and Friar Lawrence addresses Romeo as his son. Romeo goes to
Friar Lawrence for help and consolation, for example, when Romeo speaks about Juliet for the
first time, Friar Lawrence speaks to him about Rosaline. This shows that their relationship is close

Friar Lawrence s egotistical attitude seems to have caused more grief than comfort. By
suggesting that Juliet drinks the potion, he shows a more selfish side to his personality. I believe
that the Friars intensions are still good at this point, however he could be trying to save himself
from the situation as he may have doubts about the upcoming events, showing that there is a
very unforgiving side to him. Friar Lawrence has to be devious in order to carry out the new
idealistic plan. As a priest, he should not lie in any situation. Friar Lawrence asks come, is the
Bride ready to go to church? to the Capulet family. He already knew full well that the wedding
was not going to go ahead, however by saying this to the family, he is pretending that he knows
nothing and gets prepared to bury Juliet. This shows how deceptive the Friar can be as he
remains very composed throughout the day, which only reinforces his superiority and
confidence amongst the community. As Juliet awakes from her planned long sleep, she asks
Friar Lawrence where is my Romeo? He tells her he lies dead. At this point, Friar Lawrence would
have been very worried about his actions and he tries to cover up the lies to fix what happened. He
asks Juliet to come, I ll dispose of thee, among a sisterhood of holy Nuns. Friar Lawrence is afraid
of his actions and of being exposed as a failure and liar. Proposing this to Juliet would have been the

American Airlines Executive Summary
Executive Summary/Abstract American Airlines is looking to expand its market to more wealthy
consumers by offering an excusive line of aircraft consisting mostly of first class and business
type seating. This new model will be labeled under the title Elite and would market routes to and
from major city hubs during heavy business traveling hours. American Airlines will position this
service as the, Black Jet since that would be the standout feature of the aircraft. American can take
advantage of its existing market base along with its frequent fliers to sell the experience of a flight
experience beyond maximizing passengers. The target motto would be a flight redefined. American
Airlines Elite would target business, first class, and frequent flying travelers. The Primary marketing
objective is to achieve a 4 7% increase in fares per route flown by the increase of ticketing prices
even with fewer seats on the aircraft. Status matching will be offered to competing airlinefrequent
flyers to encourage them to travel more with American than their current choose airline. Airlines
represents a $783 billion a year industry (Fact Sheet: Industry Statistics, 2014). Being able to
expand the market to the high end segment would create an attraction to a unique service not
offered by other major US airlines. Break even cost would be the first year goal while there would
be an increase in cost to retrofit aircraft.

A Short Story Of The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
The Scarlet Ibis is a short story written by James Hurst and was published in July of 1960. This
tragedy is placed at the time of the civil war when a boy tells the story of his brother coming into
this world. His brother was born very small and unhealthy, leading his parents to think that he will
not survive for very long. But the aunt disagrees and the baby proves her right. Once the baby is
three months, the mother and father decide to name him William Armstrong. His mother tells the
brother that he is feedable but not all there , meaning that he isn t the typical boy that can run
around and play. Brother is enraged at the fact that he won t have a playmate and decides that he
wants to suffocate William until he sees the small infant give him a smile. The brother realizes that
he isn t completely gone.
As William ages to age two, he has learned to move about and crawl around. The doctors are
afraid that if he is physically active like this, it will damage his heart. Instead of crawling, the
doctors want him to scoot or crawl backward. With William Armstrong doing this, he earns the
name Doodle , which is given to him by his older brother who feels that it is a much more fitting
name. Doodle soon learns how to talk and feels a strong brotherhood between his brother even
though he receives tough treatment from him. As Doodle becomes older, his brother decides that
he does not want a brother who cannot walk at his age because that was embarrassing to him. The

The British Educational System
THE BRITISH EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.
The basic features of the British educational system are the same as they are anywhere else in
Europe. There are three recognized stages, with children moving from the first stage (primary) to
the second stage (secondary) at around the age of 11. The third (tertiary) stage is further education
at university or college. British children start compulsory education at the age of five. Very young
children, ususally 3 or 4 years old go to nursery school. Nursery edcuation is voluntary.
However, there is quite a lot which distinguishes education in Britain from the way it works in other
countries. Compulsory education is free of charge, but parents may spend money on educating their
children privately if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nor does it dictate the exact hours of the school day, the exact dates of holidays or the exact age at
which a child must start in full time education. It does not manage an institution s finances either, it
just decides how much money to give it. In general, as many details as possible are left up to the
individual institution or the Local Education Authority (LEA, a branch of local government). All
the central government does is to ensure the availability of education, and set overall learning
objectives which they enforce through a system of inspectors.
Recent developments.
Some of the changes that have taken place in British education reflect the wider social process of
increased egalitarianism. Before 1965 most children had to take an exam (=the eleven plus exam)
at about the age of eleven, at the end of their primary schooling. If they passed this exam, they went
to a grammar school where they were taught academic subjects to prepare them for university ;
if they failed, they went to a secondary modern school, where they teach practical, job related
subjects, and pupils learn skills like hairdressing or travel and tourism. Many people argued that
it was wrong for a person s future life to be decided at so young an age. The children who went to
secondary moderns tended to be seen as failures . Moreover, the system seemed to reinforce class
distinctions (more higher class children managed to get into the grammar schools). So

Dorothy Parker Addiction
Authors who were Addicts; Writing Style Depicted Stephen King, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Dorothy
Parker; all renowned writers with a large fan base, however, what many do not correlate to these
particular authors is that they also suffered from addiction. Addiction is defined as a mental
disorder that establishes a dependence on any given substance which can internally and externally
affect a person. Addictionimpacts a person s relationships, mental capability, and even someone s
will to live. When observing an author s writing, they are usually prone to embed parts of their life
in their pieces, whether this is through characterization, tone, theme, or diction. All of these are a

Depression is one of the many mental illnesses that writers are diagnosed with, more
specifically, Dorothy Parker. Although Parker was also an addict, she also was excessively
depressed, and in so, many argue that her depression was a larger contributor to her writing rather
than her addiction to alcohol. Many people write to cope with their depression, in which many
people correlate this factor to Parker specifically. A writer, Janna Marlies Maron, discusses, But I
wrote emotional rants. Diatribes about how awful life was and how horrible I felt. What an
untalented, unskilled, unlucky, unlovable, un everything person I am (Maron). In many of Parker s
short stories, she embeds her negative experiences into her writing style. Parker s short story, A
Telephone Call, displays the narrator as a woman who is waiting for a male to call her, in which
she becomes obsessive. Parker is similar in this case from the many articles stating that all of
her marriages were not successful. Parker is viewed to have written many of her short stories
based on her depression, to where writing allowed for her to confront her present negative
experiences. Although these are accurate depictions, an author s writing can still be heavily
influenced by their addiction because it is a large part of their life. When reflecting back on
King, Parker, and Fitzgerald, the abusing of substances can backtrack to past negative

Like Mexicans By Gary Soto
In the story, Like Mexicans by author Gary Soto explains how he was always told him to marry
a girl from his same ethnicity, but unexpectedly fell in love and married a Japanese girl. Sotos
grandmother advised him to marry a girl that fitted the stereotype of a Mexican girl. He decided
to ask his mom about the issue. His mom agreed that if he were to find a righteous Mexican
women to marry her. Soto decides to ask Scott as well, who happened to be a second generation
okie. An okie was what his grandma would call any person that was from a different ethnicity than
them. They talk about their future how one day they hope to reach the American Dream. They
share the same vision of marrying someone. It was shocking to him, that he ended up marrying a
Japanese woman because he never imagined marrying someone that wasn t Mexican. When he was
twenty years old, he fell in lovewith a girl that he knew his grandma would be concerned about.
Soto told his mom about the woman and how she was the one for him and the more he talked
about her the more his mom seemed to be worried. That s when he realized that his mother
wanted him to marry someone from his own social class. Everyone agreed that indeed he wasn t
good enough for his fiancee. One day Carolyn took Soto to her home to meet her parents. Soto
was nervous, until he sees her house and how alike their houses looked. He acknowledges how
alike their ethnicities were, mainly in the economic sense. As Soto is in the roadway he

Dionysus Analysis
This sculpture was given the title, Dionysus, and is dated at 50 150 A.D. During that period, the
Roman Empire went through a civil war, multiple rebellions, a couple disastrous fires, the building
of the Colosseum, the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the peak of Roman military expansion and
thirteen different Emperors. One of which started the Flavian Dynasty, which would bring
stability to the empire that was crumbling because of financial strife. With all of these events
happening, good and bad, it seems difficult to pin point the inspiration or message behind this
sculpture. But if you break that period of time down into parts, it may be easier to get a feel for
what the artist was feeling so strongly about, whether it was inspired by... Show more content on

or just because the people had the free time for leisure activities, or to celebrate the new great

Summary Of The Video The Danger Of A Single Story
Throughout the semester the language, literacy, and liberation of Africa have been explored in
multiple aspects. However, another topic that seems practically unavoidable when discussing
these things, is the struggle and violence experienced in the process of colonization and
liberation. Throughout history, africans had to endure a lot of anguish, both mental and physical.
But, while sitting in class and taking in the videos, and discussions, I came to a startling
realization: the global fight for black people is more than a simple guns and knives battle, it is a
mental battleground. Chapter 1 of The Power of Babel basically speaks of the racismthat came
along with the colonization of African countries. It specifically states that European... Show more

Perspective is more of a mental thing that would have to be changed by changing the mental image
rather than an outbreak of war. By presenting a single narrative or perspective of the continent was
another way that they were able to cause a negative or inferior outlook on people of African
descent. Many people only know of the poor African aspect of the country, when the truth of the
matter is that Africa is one of the richest continents, in the world as far as raw materials. In
addition, there are also multiple areas in Africa that are just as urbanized as New York City, but
those are not the areas that the media selects when portraying the continent. Also, from an
American perspective, many African Americans are portrayed as people that commit crimes and
typically end up either dead or in prison. However few take the time to report on the high
achieving blacks that are graduating high school and college with honors, attending top schools
like Harvard, or working as successful entrepreneurs. But, when the media routinely presents these
negative portrayals then it leads people who only get this single story to develop a prejudice
against the entire race. This prejudice could transfer over into deadly situations, such as the
infamous recent police shootings. Many believe that the prejudiced views that some people hold on
account of the media, accounts for some if not all of those fatal gunshots. Furthermore, to combat
the prejudice, it is important to combat the single story , and that just requires that we pressure the
media to broadcast us in a more positive light to start dissolving those negative

Convicts Vs Slavery In Australia
The experiences of slaves, free settlers and convicts differed greatly. Slaves and convicts were
similar; they had to do labour and had no freedom, whereas free settlers lived with freedom and
peace.
A slave is a person who was the legal property of another person. In this context, they were
Africans that were abducted from their homes and shipped to North America. Slaves were poorly
treated and physically abused. Both men and women were treated like animals. Slaves had to do
an obscene amount of labour, often to exhaustion and sometimes until death. They usually had to
do agricultural work such as picking cotton, harvesting sugar cane, planting and harvesting rice,
harvesting tobacco, growing and harvesting coffee, building railroads, weaving, carpentry,
washing clothes, cooking and more. They had no control of what they had to do, as they had to
obey their owners. The housing that slaves lived in was atrocious. Slaves usually had to make
their own homes. There were up to ten slaves per hut. Their beds were made from straw or old
rags. A quote from someone who has witnessed the cruelness of slavery: For black men and women,

The Effects Of Teen Dating Violence
Teen dating violence is multifaceted abuse that occurs between two people who are in a close
relationship, typically a romantic relationship (Hertzog, Harpel, Rochelle, 2016). One or more
forms of abuse may be present in the relationship matter which one or ones, the relationship is still
unhealthy for developing adolescents. Research has shown that its prevalence ranges from at least
9% to at most 57% teens having experienced teen dating violence at least once in their lifetime
(Herrman, 2009). Studies have also shown that the violence is not limited to males against females
only as 11% of males and 8.8% females have reported a violent incident (Herrman, 2009). Although
teen dating violence does not discriminate as to who is a victimor perpetrator, it is believed to
occur more often in minorities and lower socioeconomic classes. These people are also less likely
to receive personal or professional help due to the stigmas of being labeled as victims. Despite that,
there are outreach programs that school can offer for free to prevent and end the continuations of
dating violence among teens. The Center for Disease Controls defines teen dating violence as being
either physical, emotional, or sexual abuse between the victims and perpetrator while bullyingis
either physical, verbal, psychological, or relational between a bully and victim (Hertzog, Harpel,
Rochelle, 2016). However, a study based on the work of Wolfe et al. (2001) seemingly combined

Walt Disney Creating A Sense Of Nostalgia Essay
Creating a Sense of Nostalgia
Walt Disney s remarkable legacy that he s left behind includes all of his creations through the 20th
century. His cartoon films and theme parks have targeted a young audience and most of us can
recall watching Disney movies at a young age according to Barrier, Practically everyone knows
Disney the corporation, the movies, the theme parks... or going to Disneyland or Walt Disney
World for the first time when we were little (Barrier 152). Sometimes we get caught up in a
hectic life and we lose sight of our own happiness. Revisiting these old times such as watching a
Disney movie that you used to at a young age or spending some time in one of Walt s theme
parks brings a sense of nostalgia. For a brief moment you are taken back and remember that life
is not so bad and you are emerged in happiness. Typically, we tend to have good memories
connected with those films or theme parks, because as a child, responsibilities and worries didn t

Arranged Marriage And Love-Based Marriage
Faced with evidence of an increasingly globalized and progressive human society, many Americans
mistakenly assume the established universal predominance of the love based marriage institution,
often believing that the antiquated practice of arranged marriage has become outmoded in a
modern age hallmarked by prevailing Western conceptions of individuality, personal liberty, and
gender equality. This ethnocentric perspective grossly misrepresents the reality of the
heterogeneous and heavily culture dependent tradition of marriage, as the majority of marriages in
India are still arranged and follow adapted mores of traditional, ancestral marriage praxes
(Angeloni 85). In conducting a cross cultural comparison of lovemarriages and arranged marriages,
it is tempting to select the better of the two marriage forms this, however, is an ideographically
and culturally subjective parameter by which to analyze the potential merits and drawbacks of
these two modes of marriage. Ultimately, the notion of cultural relativism that every culture is to
be judged by its own premises [and] its own axioms (Bohannan 33) crucially pertains to the
objective study of arranged marriages and love based marriages which, upon reflection, appear
equally well suited and sensible within their own separate cultural contexts. Love based marriages
in the United States typically entail the wedding of two individuals after a prolonged courtship
based on their mutual romantic affection for one another

Is there a better sight in sport than an underdog summoning the form of his life against all odds

the Pakistan Super League (PSL) pitting the Peshawar Zalmi against Quetta Gladiators on
February 19 was so satisfying. It had enough drama and plot twists to appease the most
demanding punters. The PSL is a resounding success for a whole range of reasons, but to me, the
last 20 minutes of this game encapsulated what is means to be a cricket fan in Pakistan and how
international fixtures are poorer for not playing to packed stadiums in Karachi, Lahore or
Rawalpindi. As fortunes seesawed in the homestretch, unsurprising since both Zalmi and

count similar to that of a rotary dial telephone3. As the years progressed people needed more. It was
seen that the simple addition, subtraction, and multiplication functions were not enough. The need
for memory storage features arose. People at that time perceived the abacus, comptometers, ... Show

Essay On Restoration Of The Everglades
Restoration of Florida s Everglades The Everglades in South Florida, home of 36 such endangered
species such as the American Crocodile and the Florida Panther, slowly continues to diminish.
According to the website of the National Wildlife Refuge Association (NWRA), the Everglades
played a crucial role in the lives of Florida s human residents ( Everglades ). Since the 1980s, the
government established efforts to protect wildlife and vegetation. Organization groups continue
planning on restoring the most well known wetland on Florida soil. In other words, the
development of urban communities and agriculture causes a mass increase in pollution and flood
watches. The ongoing conservation of the Everglades preserves limited water quality, protect
wildlife, and prevent urban development. Recently, the heap of pollution caused a massive
drainage in the Everglades water quality. Tramontana and Johnson (2003) reported that much of
Florida s early development was based upon draining and removing excess water from wetlands...
and it was thought if drained, the land could be put to better use (Human Development section,
para. 2). Pollution destroys the cleanliness of the wetland leading to a decrease in restoration.

flow of freshwater.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of its marshes, cypresses, and mangroves cover the majority of the wetland and an estimated
number of 50 reptile species and 40 mammal species currently residing are either endangered, or
worse, threatened for extinction. The Florida Panther, according to the National Park Service, has a
successful breeding population; nonetheless, the primary threats to the remaining population are
habitat loss, fragmentation, and degradation (para. 2). Due to the ongoing urban development, the
panther became a well known endangered human threat. An estimated 80 120 panthers are surviving

Victimless Crime Analysis
In chapter 11 of Criminal Law Today, the author explains the concept of victimless crime and what
constitutes pornography, obscenity, and lewdness. The author also describes prostitution and its
legal status across the United States and the nation s drug problem. Some crimes fall into the
category of social order offenses, such as crimes against public decency and morality. These crimes
are also known as victimless crimes, which are offenses committed against the social values and
interests represented in and protected by the criminal law. Crimes against public decency and
morality include prostitution, drug use, gambling, pornography, obscenity, and various other
consensual sex offenses. Prostitution is the offering or receiving of the body for sexual intercourse
for hire. However, some states limit the crimeof prostitution to sexual intercourse for hire.
According to the definitions of North Carolina and Georgia, a conviction for prostitution does not
require for the act to actually take place. Even promoting prostitution is a statutory offense. The
purpose is to punish those who profit or attempt to profit by using others to engage in prostitution.

Fornication is voluntary sexual intercourse between two people, one of whom is unmarried.
Adultery is sexual intercourse between a male and a female, where one of them is married. Even
though these laws are rarely enforced, people can find themselves accused of such acts. Crime
against nature is a general term that can include homosexual or heterosexual acts of anal
intercourse, also known as buggery. Bestiality refers to sexual relations with animals. Bigamy may
occur here and there. Bigamy is the crime of marrying one person while still legally married to
another person. This may lead to polygamy, which is the state of having more than one wife or

John Sedgwick s In My Blood
The University of Mary Washington hosted John Sedgwick, a historian, journalist, and
memoirist, on February 2nd, 2017. Educated at Harvard College, Sedgwick is well known for
his brilliant skill of story telling, as he has published twelve books. These twelve books may be
broken down into several categories. He published three works of nonfiction, including an
analysis of the Philadelphia Zoo, entitled, The Peaceable Kingdom, which provided the basis for
a dramatic television series aired on CBS. His two psychological novels, The Dark House and
The Education of Mrs. Bemis, are both critically acclaimed. In My Blood, a family memoir,
involved investigating six generations of his family as a component of research. Sedgwick has also

Interestingly enough, only one person survived who actually observed the duel. The seconds
and the doctor were obliged to avert their gaze when the guns went off, for the duel was a crime,
and they did not want to be eyewitnesses, and thus complicit, to the crime. Thus, these two men
looked away, while Hamilton and Burr faced each other. One of the men, Hamilton, died,
leaving Burr as the only person to see what happened. All of them, however, could year.
Normally, two shots are fired quickly after the duel begins, as each man attempts to be the first
to shoot the other and survive unscathed. In this case, there was a significant gap between the
two shots. Perhaps what is truly fascinating is the history that took place in that gap, in that silent
span of time. It is clear that once the first bullet was fired, Hamilton was struck in the side, as the
bullet pierced his liver. He rushed to his doctor, stating in a very characteristic phrase, Doctor, I
fear it is a mortal wound. He died the following morning of a hemorrhage, to which his wife and
children bore horrible

Cincher Should Not Be Allowed Persuasive Speech
Let s start with plus size waist cinchers or plus size waist shapers, are a wide belt like garment
worn below the bust or rib line and end above the hip in order to give the illusion of a slimmer
waistline and a more feminine hourglass shape. Made to be firm control shapewear, the material
used is quite thick and don t really have much give. Now this is by no means a bad thing
otherwise how would it do its job? A good waist cincher is designed to really hold in that gut and
reduce your waist by at least 1.5/2 inches. There are many waist shapers available that are made
from light control, stretchy materials, which will smooth out the bumps and lumps but these aren t
powerful enough for me! I need a cincher that will do just as it says

Analyzing Tlc s Song Waterfalls
Waterfalls Jennifer Brown Ivy Tech Community College of Indianapolis Sociology 111 Dave
Strong December 13th, 2015 With a title like Waterfalls , one would expect this song to be about
actual waterfalls or other cheery subject matter. This is far from reality with the controversial
1995 song by TLC titled as such, Waterfalls. The song s opening lyrics, a lonely mother gazing
out of her window, staring at a son she just can t touch , hint at the fact that this song is far from
rainbows and lollipops. Waterfalls subtly, and at times, not so subtly, discusses issues like HIV,
drug use, and crimes associated with the drug trade business. All of these issues plagued society in
the early 90 s, but impacted the African American community... Show more content on

staggering 45.8% of African American children live in poverty (The State of Working America).
As we discussed throughout this semester, socio economic class reproduces itself. Meaning,
unless these children grow up to accomplish at least one of the four steps of the Success
Sequence: graduate from High School, complete at least some college, get a full time job, and
wait to have children until after marriage. They have a 75% chance of remaining in poverty
(Strong). Successful completion of all four steps and the likelihood of that same person living in
poverty drops to just 2% no matter what race they are. It is no coincidence that the first two steps
of trying to get or stay out of poverty involve education. Educating and informing the public about
these issues pertaining to their community was the sole purpose of this

  • 2. Rhetor s Argument Analysis Although convincing the audience that the rhetor is intelligent does not mean that they can be fully trusted. An essential part of establishing ethos is assessing the rhetor s ethical appeal. This approach appeals to the audience s ethical judgment, this can be in the form of a passionate delivery or even a simple claim that matter is unjust (Jasinski, 2001). The rhetor fails to provide any limitations or alternative evidence to the example studies given. There was a lack of mutual ground for both sides of the argument, even though this was an advantage in persuading, the improper approach caused questionable trust in the rhetor s work. Additionally, the rhetor establishes credibility by the publication of the artifact. This video was published... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Identification of present elements involves identifying the basic observable features of the artifact. These can be embedded in the artifacts major arguments, types of evidence, images, particular terms, or metaphors. A critic using ideological criticism examines the artifact for individual sings that point to ideological tenets. Then they recognize the suggested elements linked to the presented elements. The analyst then articulates ideas, themes, concepts, or references that are suggested by the presented elements. This is where the meanings of the ideological tenets are identified. Within the artifact there were several presented elements rooted in the major argument. The first element presented was time. The suggesting element related to this presented element is that individuals only seem to appreciate this fact in retrospect; only when we look backwards do we realize how much change happens in a decade. The artifact is mainly suggesting the one constant in our life is change. The rhetor closes his talk by sharing that the person you are right now is temporary and as short lived as all the people you have ever been. The rhetor then states a conclusion that the bottom line is time is a powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Goddess Of The Earth Essay The darkness fills a land where evil runs unopposed, illuminated by the five gushing rivers that characterize the land, each unique to their region of hell. At the center, the infamous river of Styx flows from Oceanus, creating a boundary between the land of the living and the land of the dead. The Kokytos river branches southward off of Styx feeding into the marsh. On the other side of the marsh, the Acheron river ebbs and flows southeast. Northwest of Styx, towards the Gates of Ivory lays the waters of Lethe, the river of forgetfulness. Circling the Northern region of Tartarus flows Phlegethon, winding like a python ready to choke the life out of its prey. Close to Phelegethon, east of Tartus, is the plain of Judgments where cries of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mi lady, came a death whisper that filled the silence in an uncanny hollow way. Mi lord has returned. Assured that the spirit could hear that her heart rate pounding in her ears, Proserpina forced her sob down and refused to cry out in agony. Damned to this land just as much as she was, Pluto s return came as no shock. She just thought she had a few more days free of her husband, king, and tormentor. Not for the first time her anger for Jupiter burned in her heart, for surely he would have control over Pluto enough to force her release, but no the gods were powerless. Not for the first time, Proserpina wished she would have died slowly instead of eating those seeds prolonging her suffering. Mi lady, whispered the Laureus. With the speed of Mercury, Proserpina unsheathed her dagger and launched it towards the Laureus head. With a hellish scream the deposed demon dissipated before her. Proserpina grinned at her blade, as she bent to pick it up and place it back in its sheath. If only she could do that to her husband, she would be free. When the spirit rematerialized, Proserpina acceded and followed the spirit through the palace and went to the throne room at the heart of the palace. Her husband stood regally on his dais and leered down at her as she approaches the steps the way he did every time he summoned her. • 4. Stereotypes In South Park South Park is a fictionalized animated account of a group of grade school friends who live in Colorado. The show is what s known as an equal opportunity offender. It takes no prisoners when it comes to stereotypes of religion, sex, race and gender. An abundance of sociological concepts and social issues are present. Since its start in 1989 it has taken on social issues with unparalleled bravery, one of them gender. Many episodes pit the guys against the girls and the battle of the sexes and break ups ensue. For example, Muhammad, the prophet of the Islamic faith, cannot be insulted without becoming enraged, much like radical Islamic terrorists today. The story of Scientology is told frankly and with embarrassing detail in the episode titled, The Return of Chef. For example, they mock L. Ron Hubbard s version of a spaceship hovering above Earth by portraying the vessel as a golden Boeing 747 that came from outer space to Earth. • 5. The Udhr And The Different World Viewpoints On Human... The UDHR and the Different World Viewpoints on Human Rights Accepted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is comprised of a preamble and thirty articles. Each article delineates a specific right that every human, either from the sake of being human and/or being part of the collective of humanity, is forever entitled to. On the flip side, the preamble is comprised of seven clauses that taken together accommodate the historical evolution, context, and reasoning behind the document s inscription. Finally, at the end of the preamble is the declaration s proclamation, whose inclusion solidifies the documents global significance. Given the historical time period that the UDHR was conceived in, its thirty rights are quite an astonishing list. However, in today s times, the UDHR does not mention a series of rights that the international community has, in some places more than others, started to accept since 1948. In general, this trend can be easily noticed in how the declaration phrases rights pertaining to the different sexes and/or genders. In not one of the thirty articles, do the words sexual orientation or abortion appear, nor is there any mention that humans have the right to be gay, queer, bisexual etc. At least in the United States, it has become more and more accepted that human beings have the right to whatever sexual orientation that they innately possess. • 6. Reasons For The Compromise Of 1877 Following the Compromise of 1877, many supporters of black rights, such as freed slaves or radical Republicans, believed that conditions for freed blacks were worse than they had been when they were enslaved. Though there were definitely upsides to freedom from slavery, many conditions blacks lived under either didn t change or got worse after the Compromise. For example, the removal of the military from the South allowed the southern government to pass laws limiting blacks rights, meaning the social, political and economic conditions after the compromise were similar to the ones they had lived with under slavery; the legalization of segregation made it more difficult for blacks to influence white perception of their race; and violence against blacks increased, and white protection of them decreased, as many saw them as less valuable once they had been released from slavery. The compromise ended the reconstruction, which meant that the military presence in the south, which had been virtually the only thing keeping a semblance of order, was removed. This resulted in widespread and often unpunished violence against blacks. It also left the southern government free to operate by itself, and measures were quickly taken to limit the rights of blacks. Education budgets were cut, sharecropping regulations were changed in order to favor plantation owners, and the right to vote was taken away from blacks. Blacks were free from slavery, but they had nearly the exact same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many scenarios in which you can see the good in pro gun control and also other scenarios where con gun control is good. Gun control should not be a plan the U.S government should take because there are many cases in which a firearmwill determine you from death or life. And the right to carry a firearm is like the right to protect our freedom, and to self defend ourselves. Firearms are used defensively roughly 2.5 million times per year, more than four times as many as criminal uses. This amounts to 2,575 lives protected for every life lost to a gun. • 10. Creationism Vs Evolutionism Essay Evolutionism vs Creationism has been one of the largest ongoing debates ever since Charles Darwin threw his theory on the table. So far, neither argument has enough evidence to be proven, yet we still teach one as fact in public education. Every genesis is dependent on trust and acceptance. Religious theories, such as Creationism, require a belief in an intelligent God or in gods, which can neither be proved nor disproved. Evolutionrequires faith in chance, time, and natural selectionto explain the precision tuned conditions that make Earth perfect for life. The Big Bang concept requires acceptance of something we cannot see (See Space.com or Universe Today). Today, evolution is one of main geneses being taught in public education. It has, however, several holes that are often avoided when taught. Let s just take a look at the origin of life. Life could not have started in the presence of oxygen, like that in our atmosphere. Evolutionists claim earth s early atmosphere was void of oxygen. Scientific evidence today shows that earth s early atmosphere may have had even more oxygen than today. Even allowing that theory, without oxygen there would be no ozone and, without ozone, life would have burnt from the ultraviolet radiation. To account for this, evolutionists say life started underwater. The water would have quickly split the molecules of any proteins that formed. Furthermore, of the 2,000 amino acids that exist, only around 20 are used in life. Every amino acid in proteins... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. Is Friar Lawrence a Good Man, Evil Character or Simply a... Friar Lawrence plays a strong central character throughout the play, Romeo and Juliet. The Friar is linked to both the Capulet s and the Montague s through religion and the church. Friar Lawrence is presented as a holy man who is trusted and respected by the community because he is a priest. Friar Lawrence is an advisor and close friend to Romeo. This is apparent when Romeo addresses the Friar as father and Friar Lawrence addresses Romeo as his son. Friar Lawrence has to be devious in order to carry out the new idealistic plan. As a priest, he should not lie in any situation. Friar Lawrence asks come, is the Bride ready to go to church? to the Capulet family. He already knew full well that the wedding was not going to go ahead, however by saying this to the family, he is pretending that he knows nothing and gets prepared to bury Juliet. This shows how deceptive the Friar can be as he remains very composed throughout the day, which only reinforces his superiority and confidence amongst the community. As Juliet awakes from her planned long sleep, she asks Friar Lawrence where is my Romeo? He tells her he lies dead. At this point, Friar Lawrence would have been very worried about his actions and he tries to cover up the lies to fix what happened. Before 1965 most children had to take an exam (=the eleven plus exam) at about the age of eleven, at the end of their primary schooling. If they passed this exam, they went to a grammar school where they were taught academic subjects to prepare them for university ; if they failed, they went to a secondary modern school, where they teach practical, job related subjects, and pupils learn skills like hairdressing or travel and tourism. Many people argued that it was wrong for a person s future life to be decided at so young an age. The children who went to secondary moderns tended to be seen as failures . Parker s short story, A Telephone Call, displays the narrator as a woman who is waiting for a male to call her, in which she becomes obsessive. Parker is similar in this case from the many articles stating that all of her marriages were not successful. Parker is viewed to have written many of her short stories based on her depression, to where writing allowed for her to confront her present negative experiences. Like Mexicans By Gary Soto In the story, Like Mexicans by author Gary Soto explains how he was always told him to marry a girl from his same ethnicity, but unexpectedly fell in love and married a Japanese girl. Sotos grandmother advised him to marry a girl that fitted the stereotype of a Mexican girl. He decided to ask his mom about the issue. His mom agreed that if he were to find a righteous Mexican women to marry her. Soto decides to ask Scott as well, who happened to be a second generation okie. An okie was what his grandma would call any person that was from a different ethnicity than them. They talk about their future how one day they hope to reach the American Dream. They share the same vision of marrying someone. It was shocking to him, that he ended up marrying a Japanese woman because he never imagined marrying someone that wasn t Mexican. When he was twenty years old, he fell in lovewith a girl that he knew his grandma would be concerned about. Soto told his mom about the woman and how she was the one for him and the more he talked about her the more his mom seemed to be worried. During that period, the Roman Empire went through a civil war, multiple rebellions, a couple disastrous fires, the building of the Colosseum, the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the peak of Roman military expansion and thirteen different Emperors. One of which started the Flavian Dynasty, which would bring stability to the empire that was crumbling because of financial strife. However, another topic that seems practically unavoidable when discussing these things, is the struggle and violence experienced in the process of colonization and liberation. Throughout history, africans had to endure a lot of anguish, both mental and physical. But, while sitting in class and taking in the videos, and discussions, I came to a startling realization: the global fight for black people is more than a simple guns and knives battle, it is a mental battleground. By presenting a single narrative or perspective of the continent was another way that they were able to cause a negative or inferior outlook on people of African descent. Many people only know of the poor African aspect of the country, when the truth of the matter is that Africa is one of the richest continents, in the world as far as raw materials. In addition, there are also multiple areas in Africa that are just as urbanized as New York City, but those are not the areas that the media selects when portraying the continent. Also, from an American perspective, many African Americans are portrayed as people that commit crimes and typically end up either dead or in prison. However few take the time to report on the high achieving blacks that are graduating high school and college with honors, attending top schools like Harvard, or working as successful entrepreneurs. But, when the media routinely presents these negative portrayals then it leads people who only get this single story to develop a prejudice against the entire race. This prejudice could transfer over into deadly situations, such as the infamous recent police shootings. Many believe that the prejudiced views that some people hold on account of the media, accounts for some if not all of those fatal gunshots. Furthermore, to combat the prejudice, it is important to combat the single story , and that just requires that we pressure the media to broadcast us in a more positive light to start dissolving those negative ... In this context, they were Africans that were abducted from their homes and shipped to North America. Slaves were poorly treated and physically abused. Both men and women were treated like animals. • 25. Arranged Marriage And Love-Based Marriage Faced with evidence of an increasingly globalized and progressive human society, many Americans mistakenly assume the established universal predominance of the love based marriage institution, often believing that the antiquated practice of arranged marriage has become outmoded in a modern age hallmarked by prevailing Western conceptions of individuality, personal liberty, and gender equality. This ethnocentric perspective grossly misrepresents the reality of the heterogeneous and heavily culture dependent tradition of marriage, as the majority of marriages in India are still arranged and follow adapted mores of traditional, ancestral marriage praxes (Angeloni 85). In conducting a cross cultural comparison of lovemarriages and arranged marriages, it is tempting to select the better of the two marriage forms this, however, is an ideographically and culturally subjective parameter by which to analyze the potential merits and drawbacks of these two modes of marriage. Ultimately, the notion of cultural relativism that every culture is to be judged by its own premises [and] its own axioms (Bohannan 33) crucially pertains to the objective study of arranged marriages and love based marriages which, upon reflection, appear equally well suited and sensible within their own separate cultural contexts. Interestingly enough, only one person survived who actually observed the duel. The seconds and the doctor were obliged to avert their gaze when the guns went off, for the duel was a crime, and they did not want to be eyewitnesses, and thus complicit, to the crime. Thus, these two men looked away, while Hamilton and Burr faced each other. One of the men, Hamilton, died, leaving Burr as the only person to see what happened. All of them, however, could year. Normally, two shots are fired quickly after the duel begins, as each man attempts to be the first to shoot the other and survive unscathed. In this case, there was a significant gap between the two shots. Perhaps what is truly fascinating is the history that took place in that gap, in that silent span of time. It is clear that once the first bullet was fired, Hamilton was struck in the side, as the bullet pierced his liver. Analyzing Tlc s Song Waterfalls Waterfalls Jennifer Brown Ivy Tech Community College of Indianapolis Sociology 111 Dave Strong December 13th, 2015 With a title like Waterfalls , one would expect this song to be about actual waterfalls or other cheery subject matter. This is far from reality with the controversial 1995 song by TLC titled as such, Waterfalls. The song s opening lyrics, a lonely mother gazing out of her window, staring at a son she just can t touch , hint at the fact that this song is far from rainbows and lollipops.
