Working Together in Robert Frost s Mending Wall Essay
Working Together in Robert Frost s Mending Wall
The air is cool and crisp. Roosters can be heard welcoming the sun to a new day and a woman is
seen, wearing a clean colorful wrap about her body and head, her shadow casting a lone silhouette
on the stone wall. The woman leans over to slide a piece of paper into one of the cracks, hoping her
prayer will be heard in this city of Jerusalem. Millions are inserting their prayers into the walls of
Japanese temples, while an inmate in one of a hundred prisons across the United States looks past
his wall toward the prayers he did not keep. Billions fall asleep each night surrounded by four
walls and thousands travel to China to witness the grandest one of all. Who builds walls and who ...

He blames it upon the cold ravages of a winter swell and the indifferent attitude of hunters searching
out a hare. By leaving the question a mystery the speaker is able to entertain himself with fantasies
of elves and ideas of fiction, to fill a winter s long mind made mischievious by the spring season
(Lentricchia 105).
In defense of why a wall should be maintained the farmer merely states his father s saying, Good
fences make good neighbors (Frost 28). The farmer does not have any real proof of why the
wall should be put back each spring, when there is no threat of livestock crossing the borders.
When questioned a second time he gave the same answer and again without giving the reason
why fences make good neighbors. Family tradition and work ethic seem to be this farmer s
motivation. He seeks to get the wall completed where the speaker appears more entertained by
the activity (Barry 145). The farmer s mechanical repair of the fence is imagined in the eyes of the
speaker as an old stone savage armed (Stanford 40).
Before attitudes can be discussed first the poem s moral must be decided. Mending Wall does
not take the approach of right and wrong, rather it shows two perspectives. There is the speaker
who seeks a release from the dull ritual of work each spring and the farmer, who is trapped by work
and the New England past (Lentricchia 106). Two

Advertisement Is A Perfect Example Of Postmodernism...
The Dove Evolution advertisement is a perfect example of postmodernism advertising and
complements the above discussion of hyper reality. The advertisement presents the full process in
creating a billboard worthy advertisement. Firstly, the segment provides a behind the scenes look
at how the model is, essentially created , and shows the audience how the original image becomes
the final product, unlike modernist advertisements which just presents an already final and
beautiful product. Emphasis on the use of photo shop illustrates how technology has become a
tool in modern day advertising and highlights Baudrillard s (1994) view that the people of today
live in an unreal and fake world. Filming and disseminating this process allows us to live without
the illusions that modernity dangled before us (Hart pg 9) The background classical music that has
been slightly distorted illustrates Hart s (2004) belief that Postmodernismtakes what it likes from
high culture(classical music) and puts it to work in popular culture(advertising) (Pg 8, Hart, 2004),
further illustrating the idea that postmodernism involves removing things out of their contexts,
fragmenting them...and, well, playing with them (pg 8, Hart, 2004). The final cut shows the
billboard up, without showing the process of how that image came to be, reiterating Mills (1956)
argument that the public would be unable to tell that it is a hyper real image. This advertisement
exemplifies Harvey s (1990)

Lord Capulet Get Pardoned In Romeo And Juliet
Why would anyone get pardoned or punished in Romeo and Juliet? All the characters played a
part in the problems that occurred. The Prince says, Some shall be pardoned, and some
punished. If that is true, who would be left? In Romeo and Juliet, Lady Capulet should be
pardoned. Lady Capulet was trying to help Juliet move on with things in her life and when Juliet
said she didn t want to get married, Lady Capulet wanted her to talk to Lord Capulet. Find thou
the means and I ll find such a man. But now I ll tell thee joyful tidings, girl (Romeo and Juliet
3.5.103). Lady Capulet was saying to Juliet find out what you want and I will go out and find that
guy. She was trying to help her daughter and make her happy. In addition to this Lady Capulet...

A Central Theme or Motif in the Play Othello, Is Jealousy
Jealousy is the central theme in the play Othello by William Shakespeare. It is the most famous
literary work that focuses on the dangers of jealousy. The play is a study of how jealousy can ruin
lives even with only the most circumstantial evidence of guilt. The play opens in Venice and
revolves mainly around a man called Othello. It s his actions and thoughts which makes the play
interesting and suspenseful. Themes such as love, jealousy, betrayal, honesty and vengeance are all
important and widely portrayed throughout the play. However, as we venture into the play and the
character Othello, we will realise that jealousy is ultimately the most important theme of them all. It
is the fundamental element that fuels the characters and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His lack of experience brought upon his ruin. Jealousy is described throughout the play as a
monstrous emotion or more specifically, a green eyed monster . This becomes increasingly more
destructive and intense. However, it s at the end of the play that Othello commits extreme actions
because his jealousy has caused him to believe everything is true. Jealousy here is harnessed as a
weapon, a weapon made so lethal because its victim ultimately destroys himself and others around
him. It is interesting that Iago uses jealousy against Othello, as jealousy is likely the source of Iago
s hatred in the first place. In Othello, jealousy takes many forms, from sexual suspicion to
professional competition, but it is, in all cases, destructive. However, this jealousy was not
originally prominent Othello, but was rather developed through Iago s numerous plans of
destruction, which is understood through Othello s change in personality and actions taken.
By studying the text Othello by William Shakespeare, we are able to understand that jealousy is a
powerful emotion, one that can destroy relationships, and consume the mind. Whether sexual or
platonic, once the seed of jealousy is planted it can lead to devastating consequences, as seen in the
play. Jealousy can easily turn into anger, and overwhelm it s victim making them obsessed with the
notion. In the play Othello, many of the characters fall victim to

Clarity, Arrangement, Credibility, And Expectations
The five cognate strategies I chose were, Clarity, Tone, Arrangement, Credibility, and
Expectations. Clarity in writing is giving a clear understanding about what you are talking
about. I ve used clarity in my writing as a screenwriter by describing a character with clear and
precise wording. An example would be, I am leaving for vacation tomorrow and I won t be back
for a month. Lisa Taylor will take over my position in my absence. Take care . Clarity is when
you are explicit with the details you are relaying in your message. Specific details are key. Tone
is how you express yourself. The mood of the information you re relaying. I ve used Tone in my
screenwriting to set a certain tone to the scene. If it s dark and creepy feeling, I ll say it s dark
and theirs a hissing sound in the air .An example would be I feel really good about the new
changes that are being implemented here in this office. I have one percent faith in you that you can
handle the load and that you will go above and beyond your normal duties to achieve your quotas.

The hierarchy. Putting in order a list of things. An example in a letter would be We have three
floors and a Three Tiered System. The Top floor is for Higher management. The second floor is
for sales and the third for the mail room. Credibility is when you show character and develop
trust with your audience. An example would be Linda has been working with us now for 10
years and I have absolute faith that she is capable of stepping into the role of CEO for this firm.
Her credentials are impeccable and I have complete faith in her

Comparing Frankenstein And Gothic Literature
Brianna Cairon

Frankenstein and Gothic Literature To define gothic literature, someone might state that this genre
includes mystery and horror in writing with characters fighting for power over one another. The
stories written in this way typically include strange and mysterious locations that characters find
themselves in as well as horrific situations. The plot might include threatening and dangerous
circumstances that evoke fear out of the readers themselves. After comparing a definition of gothic
literature to the story Frankenstein, the plot aligns perfectly with the explanation.
The introduction to the frame story in the novel begins in the letters and here, gothic characteristics

Ingolstadt represents the unknown in certain ways. For example, it is the place that doctor
Frankenstein spends most his young adulthood studying and creating the creature. This place is
where the most horrific situations begin including the abandonment of his family, search for
knowledge, and creation of the most dangerous human like being. In contrast, Geneva represents
some sort of safe haven for doctor Frankenstein. In the beginning of the novel, this location is
where he grew up and had a fairly normal childhood. In contrast, it is where he flees to forget
about his blunder and removes himself from the depressing situation. Inevitably, Geneva
transforms into a dark place after the murder of Frankenstein s youngest brother. This once again
shows the mystery side of the story, and readers could only wonder if the ugly creature had
anything to do with it. Likewise, the forest the organism spends his time in after his
abandonment shows similar characteristics of mystery, but differs by adding the aspect of
loneliness. The creature could never understand why the majority of people were afraid of him
and shamed him. Therefore, he decides to reside in a cold and lonely forest, living in a small
hut. Eventually, Frankenstein finds his creature in these woods and they meet again and discuss
the life he has lived, observing the family that lives by him, learning and developing language
and social skills, and trying to survive. Here, doctor Frankenstein begins to truly understand what
he had created and he realizes that this creature only longed for love and to be loved after his
struggle to fit in. But once the creature was aware of his inability to be normal and live his life as
a regular human, his desire to be loved transformed into anger and resentment towards

Research Paper On Cataracts
What To Know About Getting Tested And Treated For Cataracts
If you re experiencing cloudy or dim vision that has gotten worse over the years, you may have
cataracts. Cataracts tend to get worse over time, and they can even cause you to lose your sight
entirely. Fortunately, diagnosing and treating cataracts is fairly simple. It all starts with an eye
exam. Here s what you can expect.
The Comprehensive Eye Examination
If you suspect you have cataracts, your eye doctor will probably do a comprehensive eye
examination. During this procedure, the doctor is able to identify the cataracts if you have them,
determine how badly they affect your vision, and document the results so their progression can be
tracked over the years. A comprehensive eye exam tests all aspects... Show more content on

When cataracts are small, they may not interfere with your vision at all. In fact, you may not even
know you have them until your eye doctor finds them on a routine eye examination. That s one
reason it is important to have periodic eye checkups to monitor the health of your eyes even if
your vision is otherwise okay. Once the cataracts grow large enough to cause vision problems, you
may still be able to postpone surgery for a few years by wearing glasses and adjusting your
prescription occasionally as the cataracts grow. If your cataracts are very slow growing, they may
never get bad enough to require surgery.
However, if your cataracts develop quickly, or they get so large that your poor vision affects
your quality of life or makes it unsafe to drive, then cataract surgery might be the best option.
During the surgery, the eye doctor removes your clouded lens and replaces it with an artificial
lens so your vision is clear once again. Based on the results of your eye examination, your doctor
can help you decide if surgery is the best option at the time, or if it is better to postpone

Qualities of a good teacher Teaching is a difficult occupation. Teachers play an important part in

Analysis Of The Poem The Bridge
Vanessa loves the woods. She goes there every day, after doing her chores, and comes back at
sundown, when the sun seeks under into its bed and while the moon rises up awake. One
pleasant day Vanessa was walking in the woods with her puppy. She came upon a bridge that
never seemed to be there, but Vanessa had taken this path a hundred times but she s never seen a
bridge, since it was getting late Vanessa left to go home. The very next day when the sun rised
over the whole town, Vanessa quickly and quietly snuck out of the house, she was curious about
that bridge, something about it just hooked her. Once Vanessa had arrived in the woods the
same Bridge was there though she had thought that it would have been way farther, for some
reason Vanessa felt like that the bridge was just waiting for her. She first checked if the bridge
was sturdy enough and in her opinion it was fine, it s not like spontaneously she is just going to
fall into the stream. But SPLASH! Unfortunately that s exactly what happened. But It s not what
you think the water barely touched her she was on land it looked like the same place that she
was in before. Then suddenly she heard a voice. She suspected that it wasn t really anything just
a few teenagers doing some stuff of their own or just talking. But to her surprise it was no one
well no one as a human. There were only trees., Vanessa saw a light, it kept coming closer and

Cold concrete floors. Metal fences for walls. Fed once, maybe twice, a day. Constant noise. This is
the reality of many shelter animals. Scared and alone. Some don t even get the luxury of a fenced

animals, plain and simple. And do you realize what many shelters have to resort to for this
population problem? Euthanization. Those kill shelters that everyone boycotts, they only exist
because we have too many stray animals. There are so many pitbulls, mutts, and mixes, that they
outnumber the people that actually want them. Some measures have been put into place to help

Actually about 1 or 2 % of the population were pitbull types, but it s too complicated to confirm
the pedigree of a pitbull, so they weren t a very big factor in the experiment. I know you wanna
get that cute new puppy, breed of your choice. Trust me, I know. I got a black boxer puppy last
summer and it was the best thing ever. It was a new tiny thing when we had our grad party, so
anytime there was the distant relative you didn t know that asked you the 1000th question about
college, you just said oh I got a new puppy! and they left to go pet it. It was wonderful, oh the
little squishy face. Trust me, I get the wanting a puppy, with the squishy face, or whatever your
heart desires. But has anyone ever owned a purebred? The downside of purebreds is some
breeds are predisposed to certain disorders. Like for boxers, it s tumors, often malignant
(cancerous). Or how dalmatians can sometimes be deaf. It s actually fairly uncommon for a
dalmatian to have complete hearing in both ears, I think it s like a 1 in 4 chance. It s actually
from the explosion of breeding needed after the 101 Dalmatians movie came out, fun fact.
Anyway, my point is that purebreds often have disorders already in their genes. There s this guy,
Bellumori, who studied the lifespans of 27 28 thousands dogs for over a decade. Pure breeds
and mixed breeds. He worked with some DVMs for a piece in one of American Veterinary
Medical Association s monthly medical journals in June of 2013. So this guy tracked the
occurrence of 24 different disorders in the course of 15 years. Everything from cardiac disorders,
to epilepsy. Cancers to allergies. Of these 24, 10 of them didn t have any correlation between mix
and pure. Thirteen of them, were more prevalent in purebreds. There was only one disorder that was
more common in mixes, and that was ligament rupture. And

The Decolonization Of Mars
A lot can be said about Mars. It was named after the Roman God of War, Mars, for its red color.
One of the biggest topics of conversation regarding Mars is whether or not us humans should be
looking to colonize the Red Planet. I won t be getting into the debate of privatized or public space
programs because in the end they are both working towards a common goal of getting to Mars. The
points I will layout through this essay will be, is Mars habitable, how much money it will cost to
get to Mars, some thoughts from Stephen Petranek and is it an actual solution.
When we get to the topic of habitability on Mars, we have to focus on the main points. Is the
atmosphere able to sustain life? Are we able to grow food to feed animals and ourselves? ... Show

Food, shelter, water, and clothing. This is for Earth, when we get to Mars, we would need
oxygen as well. What has been stated earlier in the essay was having supplies brought to Mars
earlier than our intended arrival, and some of the stuff there could be dry food. In his Ted talk,
he states that about 80% of the food we would eat on Mars would be dry foods, and the other
would be grown gradually over time. Petranek says in his Ted talk that about 15 20% would be
grown from hydroponics. What this means is that plants would grow without soil, because
Martian soil is toxic. It is considered to be toxic because NASA s Curiosity rover found
perchlorates in the Martian ground. We wouldn t be able to grow food easily until there is
running water on the surface, and we found an easier way to make the dirt able to be used for
farming practices. I personally wouldn t enjoy having to eat dried foods for a long time while
living on Mars, but some other people might. I would need the greens and vegetables to thrive for

A Disconnect From Ideologies Opposite From Ones Own

Intro
A disconnect from ideologies opposite from ones own, appears to be the obvious and simple
response. Opposite architectural theoretical ideas such as solid vs void, ideas vs talent, program vs
paradigm, object vs context, literal vs phenomenal transparency, amongst others are discussed and
analyzed in many of Colin Rowe s writings. Rowe, a British born, architectural historian, critic,
theoretician, teacher and a major intellectual influence on world architecture and urbanism believes
in a synthesis rather than neglecting either of the ideas (Wikipedia) . An architectwho seems to

Circulation and Program
The educational components (auditorium and lecture hall) are placed on the sloping surface
enhancing its purpose (seating), the exhibition space, placed on the top flat slab, is given greater
flexibility, and the library, located centrically in its design, becomes a connector of programs. The
connection (circulation) of these programs start to arise as two different circulation loops are
conceived, exterior loop (purple) and interior loop (yellow) (figure 3). The exterior loop starts from
the path connection (road) and spirals up through all the programs. The interior loop, placed inside
the main tower and library, serves a more direct route trough the building. Ingeniously through its
combine sloped and flat slab, the programs have the ability to permeate one another. The exhibition
lingers into the auditorium and lecture hall or vice versa when required by its changes in
occupation , obtaining easy and smooth transitions.

Analysis Of Flight By Sherman Alexie
Throughout the novel Flight by Sherman Alexie, the main character Zits gradually changed his

occupied the body, he d gained the advantages to solve the situation in his own way. Indeed he

the memory.
At the beginning of the book, he was ashamed of himself of being fifteen years old. And being
tall. And skinny. And ugly (Flight 4). He could not change the fact that he was half Irish and half
Indian, and maybe those characteristics came from his parents, or just his dad. He had serious acne
problems because everywhere on his body, pimples were scattered and ruining his looks. He d

My Views On My Land Ethic
When I think about what my land ethic a few different things come to mind. First I think about how
I love technology and how much my life benefits from having it. Second I think about my love for
nature, specifically hiking and camping. I try to image what my life would be like without the
Vermont mountains and everything else wonderful about nature. My ideal land ethic would be
similar to that of the time period when the US was first being settled. A time before the industrial
revolution hit the US, before all the devastation to the environment for the betterment of the human
race. My land ethic is a give and take with nature in order to sustain human life and the life of
other flora and fauna. Humans have a built in need to survive and a desire to thrive. This trait is
ultimately what has leas us to where we are today, destroying the environment for the betterment
of people now, rather than the betterment for the people in the future. My land ethic is too only
take as much from nature as needed without exhausting the resources in one single area. It

The D-Bart Company Case
Introduction D Bart Industries is an organization in that manufacturing industry that fabricates
precision parts for medical equipment and airplane parts. This newly formed firm was created
from the merger of two previous competitors, Davis Manufacturing and Bartlund Technologies.
Moreover, these organizations were managed significantly different: Erik Bartlund greatly
empowered his employees and fostered a climate of innovation and product development, while
Ted Davis relied on a stringent hierarchy of command and control to create quality products. Also,
Davis industries were unionized, while Bartlund remained nonunion, a structure that was carried
over to D Bart. After the merger, the large company initially consisted of nine total geographically
separated locations; therefore, to scale back, management decided to close the San Jose plant and
move the majority of employees to San Francisco location. In order to facilitate the closing, the
San Jose division manager, Karen Howell decided to let go roughly 20% of the employees.
Consequentially, she determined to let go 20% from each department by using the... Show more

The negative aspect of voluntary separation is the company cannot choose who leaves, meaning
D Bart can lose productive employees and valuable knowledge. Performance appraisals are one
of the best methods to avoid this negative affect (Gomez Mejia, Balkin, Cardy, 2016), but since
these are not a valid option, it is a risk the company must take. Regardless, the company can
attempt to limit the loss of valuable employees by offering and monitoring the voluntary
separations in a manner that prevents from employees with similar skills from leaving (Zatzick,
Zhao, Tingling, 2014). For example, Karen could cap the amount of employee for voluntary
separation at 20% from each

The Transportation Security Administration Is An Integral...
In our time, the Transportation Security Administration is an integral part of airports in the
United States. One cannot simply travel on a plane without going through the metal detectors or
being instructed to take off his or her shoes to check for bombs. Many travelers regard the TSA
to be a hassle, as it adds hours into the process of boarding a flight. Some treat it as a necessary
evil; they believe that the presence of the TSA is needed to offset the vulnerable state of airports.
However, the need for safety does not mean that the TSA is completely justified. The Transportation
Security Administrationfails to do its job in serving the public. Its policies and practices infringe on
people s privacy, have questionable effectiveness, and pose health risks, while its employees
behave unprofessionally and have inadequate training for their jobs. Alternative securitymeasures
and internal reform will help the Transportation Security Administration do its job better and raise
public opinion.
The year 2001 marked a radical shift in behavior at airports. Whereas before there were few
restrictions on baggage items, after the September 11 tragedy, the U.S. government significantly
tightened regulations regarding what could be taken on a plane. Two months later, in November
2001, the Transportation Security Administration was formed after the Aviation and Transportation
Security Act was passed through Congress. The Council on Foreign Relations, a nonprofit
organization, reported

Missional Hermeneutic Essay
The thesis of this paper is that a missional hermeneutic is an appropriate reading of the Bible
because it nurtures a listening engagement by the church that is crucial for mutual God
conversation with those outside the church. This paper will argue this thesis by engaging Richard
Bauckham s book Bibleand Mission as a framework for understanding a missional hermeneutic.
Bauckham s central theme of the relationship between the particular and the universal, can offer
keen insight as to how a missional hermeneutic nurtures a listening engagement with local contexts.
Additionally, via this framework, the paper will show how a missional reading of the scripture
develops in us a theology that moves us into a listening engagement with our community and the
world. Finally, key insights will demonstrate the importance of a listening engagement between
church and community and show the appropriateness of a missional hermeneutic.

Surprisingly, he develops this hermeneutic, not by focusing on comments related to mission in the
Bible, but by looking at the action and purpose of God as narrated in the biblical story. God s
purpose, as Bauckham empathizes, results in the kingdom of God and he desires one to read the
Bible, in a way that takes seriously its missionary direction. Therefore, one can call this
hermeneutical framework missional. Missional describes something that is related to or
characterized by mission, and Bauckham is stating that, at its core, God s purpose or mission
characterizes the whole of scripture and what one knows about God. Consequently, this is the first
critical piece of Bauckham s hermeneutic the mission is

The Three Types Of Cheerleaders
No matter what type of cheerleader you are, all cheerleaders have the same role. A cheerleader s
main role is to motivate the crowd. Being a cheerleader has many different meanings, such as
sideline, competitive, and college. Whenever you hear the word cheerleader, you probably think
of a image of a little girl yelling and jumping on the sidelines at a football game; however, this is
only one type of a cheerleader. The three types of cheerleaders are high schoolcheerleaders, all star
cheerleaders, and collegecheerleaders. They are all different in many ways which include different
venues, skill levels, and benefits.
High school cheerleading is where all the fun begins. The venues are usually held at a football
field or a basketball court. At high school football and basketball games the crowds are generally
smaller than at a college game. Most cheerleading teams are required to attend a cheer camp in the
summer. Depending on which cheer camp you attend, venues can vary from the beach to a college
or even your own high school. Some high school cheerleading teams are allowed to compete
competitively against other cheerleading teams. These cheerleading teams get to experience
cheerleading competitions. The cheerleading competitions consist of many cheer mats, lots of
judges, and huge crowds. On the other hand, skill level in high school cheerleading is not quite as
elite as all star or college cheerleading. Most high school cheerleading teams do not require a back
handspring, but there are some cheerleading teams that do require a standing back handspring or a
standing tuck. When stunting in high school, certain stunts are illegal, such as basket tosses with
flips or flipping in a pyramid without someone holding onto the middle flyer. Also, in pyramids
everyone must be connected. There are many benefits you get from high school cheerleading that
include learning teamwork, leadership skills, and discipline. Also some cheerleading teams get the
opportunity to compete at the National Cheerleading Championship. The National Cheerleading
Championship is the most prestigious cheerleading competition in the country. This competition is
held at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and it is also nationally

What Was The Cause Of The 2008 Financial Crisis
1. Introduction
The financial crisis of 2007 08 was also known as subprime crisis or credit crisis. Since the bubbles
of real estate market in America came into surface on August 9, 2007 investors were losing their
confidence on subprime mortgage assets and the liquidity risk followed behind. Even though the
central banks of many countries tried to turn around the situation by injecting huge amount of
capital to the financial market, the financial crisis still broke out and spread to Europe and other
parts all over the world especially on the backing sector.
The purpose of the essay is to identify the causes of the global financial crisis on the angle of the
failure of corporate governance in UK banks such as Northern Rock and RBS which will be
discussed in Section two. The reforms of UK governance post crisis will also be discussed
especially on the aspect of banking risk management in section three. In the fourth section
conclusion will be given.
2. Causes of the Financial Crisis
In this section, the impacts of the financial crisis from different orientations will be shown in the
first place. Then, the role of the failure on governance of UK banks will be analyzed.
2.1. Consequences of the Crisis
The explosion of the global financial crisis impacted many areas of UK. Because of the uncertainty
of the market consumers lost confidence on the economy and households cut spending particularly
on manufactured product which leaded to the sharp fall in industrial production

Argumentative Essay On Whaling
An Exemption For Whaling
For this week s written assignment, I have chosen to address the Norwegian and Japanese positions
on permitting whale hunting as a cultural exemption. As someone who was born in Norway, and
has visited several whaling towns, I feel that I have some idea of the importance of whaling to
Norwegian cultures and national identity. Although Japan is culturally and geographically a very
different place to Norway, I feel that the importance of whaling to both cultures provides some
similarities between the two nations.
1. Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non
endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption?
I find this particular question a difficult one to answer. Whaling is a notoriously cruel method of
hunting there is no humane way to kill a whale at sea. Many die a slow, painful death (Whale and
Dolphin Conservation, n.d.). There is also concern from whale scientists about the effect of the
hunting of whales on whale communities and populations (Whale and Dolphin Conservation, n.d.).
It cannot be denied that whaling is an inhumane process, with serious repercussions for the whale
species.
However, I do feel that Norway and Japan should be able to exercise their right to self
determination (as expressed in the UN s Universal Declaration of Human Rights). Both countries
argue that whaling is crucial to several of their local communities. The North Atlantic Marine

Justification of Creon in Antigone by Sophocles Essay
Justification of Creon in Antigone by Sophocles
Antigone is a tragic play written by Sophocles in about 441b.c. The play is a continuation of the
curse put upon the household of Oedipus Rex. Sophocles actually wrote this play before he wrote
Oedipus, but it follows Oedipus in chronological order. The story of Antigone begins after the
departure of Oedipus, the king of Thebes, into self exile. Oedipus two sons, Eteocles and
Polyneices, were left to rule over Thebes. An argument over rights to power forces Polynices to
leave Thebes. Some time passes and Polynices returns with the army from Argos and attempts to
overthrow his brother. The two brothers fight and kill one another and the war ends. Creon, the

Through looking at the history of the era, the intentions of the playwright, and the critical analysis
and commentary offered on the play, it is in my opinion that Sophocles intended Creon to be the
character who was in the right, not Antigone.
The start of theater and drama in Ancient Greece took form in about 5th century b.c, with
Sophocles being considered the master of tragedy. In his plays and those of the same genre,
classic fables that the people of the era knew well were used to tell the stories. The tragic hero s
of these stories often strive to live honorable and righteous lives, but because of some mistake
their lives would often great and noble death. The idea that serving the state was proper way to
gain honor was a popular belief during this time period. This philosophy was echoed by Plato in
his book, the Republic. Plato dealt with establishing the ideal state. The way to achieve the ideal
state was through striving for justice. Justice, according to Plato, is doing only the tasks
assigned to them by nature. This is the fundamental notion for his creation of an ideal city. It is
both knowing what true justice is and where one belongs in the city that the ideal can be
achieved. Justice in a city can be found in an individual as well outside the individual because it
is a concept that is universal. If a ruler of a state was to maintain order and control over his people

Private brands help retailers to increase sales which indirectly add to the bottom line (profit).
However store brands are priced 20 30% less than the branded goods. Store brands can used as a
powerful tool i.e. The general feeling is that in times of recession, private labels increase their
market share, but tend to maintain that market share as economies recover. Thus store brands
prove to be a useful tool, depending upon how it is created. Tasty treat is private brandof future

1.2.2 EVOLUTION OF PRIVATE LABEL(STORE) BRANDS: The definition of private label
branding has evolved significantly over time. Some would argue the term private label is a
misnomer of great proportions. There is no question that the words private label acknowledges the
birth, history and existence of generic and store brands. Yet, the term does not adequately capture
the extent to which private label has progressed. Today s retail marketers are managing their
proprietary brands with the same combination of care and innovation as manufacturers of national
brands. In recent years, retailers have been liberating themselves from the traditional definition of
private label marketing as being the poor relative of national brand consumer goods, and, in doing
so, opening up huge opportunities for private label branding. These opportunities require the

Satisfaction
Customer satisfaction is one of the performance indicators that reflects the quality of the
administration of the festival (Smith, S 2008 p. 100). When the festivals performance meets the
expectations of the visitor, some researchers agree that there is an effective response to the
experience (Cadotte et al. and Oliver cited in Yuan et al. 2008 p. 280).
Several aspects can reduce the quality of the experience: a) The unconnected events affecting the
mood states (Г–zdemД±r et al. 2009 p. 363 and Marquis, 200 p. 358) and b) the physical attributes
suggested by Г–zdemД±r et al. (2009 p. 360) and Dimitrovski, (2016 p. 260) related to the
performance such as food, staff, convenience, facilities, location, crowdedness and environment.
However, there are aspects that can enhance the overall experience increasing the visitor satisfaction
leading to the recommendation to others (Anderson cited in Г–zdemД±r et al. 2009 p. 363). Some
of the key aspects are: emotions that the product of the event can create among the participants,
unique experiences for attendees, a program of quality, and appropriate facilities, resting areas,

rules that they follow, their morals, the decisions they make, the way they look and the way they
think. This is shaped by their location and experiences, as well as by other humans. Identity is
represented in many ways through poetry, music, books, paintings and other mediums. Bruce

Similarly, Dawe s poem Homo Suburbiensis is aimed to present a suburban man as a species of
human, rather than an individual. This is done through the latinised title, sounding like a
scientific name for an animal, rather than a human being. The informative tone is also present in
this poem as it is in the previous poem. As we look through a proverbial magnifying glass into
the life of the man, the poem examines even the smallest of details during those few seconds the
man spends in his garden as we observe him. We learn that he is in a vegetable patch and the line
all the things he takes down with him there suggests more than garden tools, but also his
thoughts, specifically his problems and worries, which may be depicted as a weight one may be
carrying. This suggests to us that his vegetable patch is a sanctuary, his own personal private
place of relaxation where he can sink into his own mind and think things over. The second stanza
uses sensory imagery to let the reader put himself in the place of the man in the garden, no longer
simply observing him, which helps the reader develop a more accurate picture of exactly the state
of mind the man may be in during his time in his garden. The clatter of a dish in a sink that could
be his suggests that he is married, which could imply children, making his garden all the more an

In The Odyssey, Homer, the author, uses diction throughout the story to convey various tones while
also enhancing the inner meaning of the story. The Odyssey is about Odysseus, a persevering

after battling in the Trojan War. Homer utilizes diction in order to add insight and express his

The story expresses, And all this time, in travail, sobbing, gaining on the current, we rowed into
the straight...we heard the rock bellowing all around, and dark sand raged...my men in
gloom...in fear of being devoured (The Odyssey, Lines 802 808). With this large description and
use of dramatic diction, Homer is able to express a tone of sorrow through the desperation and
events that have occurred in the stories. The denotation of travail is laborious stress and privation,
while the denotation of sobbing is a deep and desperate plea and/or cry. Both words present a tone
of suffering and Homer uses the diction in order to emphasize the degree of hardship Odysseus and
his crew have been through. This quote embodies the misery and deprivation that Odysseus and
his crew have faced along the journey and expresses the overarching tone of sorrow throughout
many stories. The quote starts with somewhat of a depressing tone to exemplify the austerity of
the crew s encounters with the Cyclops, The Land of the Dead, and the Sirens. The men remain
in gloom which has a denotation of sadness because they are soon to encounter Scylla and
Charybdis and are in deep fear of the future. In his writing, Homer successfully imprints a tone of
sorrow in times of hardship to add depth to the tragic and horrifying experiences that Odysseus and
his crew have been through, while also adding times of hope and upbringing later on in the

sheet. Place all the sheets on the sides of the tissue box. The next step is to measure the width and
length of the top of your tissue box. Cut a piece of construction paper and tape it to the top of the
tissue box. A pair of scissors is needed to cut the hole for the tissue.

Operation Desert Storm begins four days later with air strikes against Iraq. Iraq retaliates by
launching eight Scud missiles into Israel.
February 27, 1991 The Gulf War ends one day after Iraq withdraws its forces from Kuwait and sets
the oil fields on fire. A cease fire is declared and Iraqaccepts the condition of disarmament after
one hundred hours of ground fighting. On April 3, the United Nations Security Council passes

The Four Freedoms Speech Analysis
The Idea of freedom from fear has changed since the time of the famous The four freedoms
speech by the late Franklin Roosevelt in 1941 but only on what the fear is. At the time the
speech was given, America had isolationist policies that emerged at the end of World War I.
Fears were deeply rooted in another economic decline as the nation had just experienced but also
in a new threat. World War II was well under way and Roosevelt felt America should intervene to
protect freedom and democracy. Now in 2017, almost 76 years later, the fear is focused on
advancement in technologies and liberating people from under oppressive regimes and
governments as said in a welcoming speech by President Barack Obama in 2012 . Many wonder if

Causes Of Generalized Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in
the United States age 18 and older, or 18% of the population. (National Institute of Mental Health).
Anxiety is the Central Nervous System s response to a sense of threat or danger. For those that feel
an anxietyattack or episode, it triggers a Fight or Flight response. When we are in danger, this
response is very helpful to help us get out of the situation. Unfortunately for those with Anxiety, this
response can be triggered at things much smaller than a life or death situation. Although most
people will feel this anxious feeling at some time in their life, not everyone has anxiety as a
disorder. Generalized Anxiety Disorder(GAD) is defined... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The counselor will listen to the patient s problems as well as help them return to the things they
were running away from. But, for some people, talking isn t enough because although another
perspective is powerful, it won t fix the chemical imbalance. The most common treatment for
depression and anxiety is anti depressants: especially reuptake inhibitors. Most of these inhibitors
are for serotonin or norepinephrine, and they work by stopping the brain from taking up too
much of these drugs. But, Buspirone is an anti anxiety medicine that is only used for anxiety. It is
important to mention all of these treatments take time. With medicine or with counseling, there
isn t a one time fix. A patient can t go to counseling one time and expect all their problems to go
away just like we can t expect medicine to work in a single week. Most of these drugs take several

The Sinking Of The Titanic Essay
On April 10, 1912, the Titanic, largest ship afloat, left Southampton, England on her maiden
voyage to New York City. (The sinking of the Titanic) There were 2,200 women, men, children,
and work crew members that made the voyage over to the United States, but little did they know
that only 705 would actually step foot on United States territory. This tragedy struck over 100
years ago, but is still constantly brought up by many people to this day. But one reason that it s
still brought up is because of the award winning movie, but how does the sinking of the Titanic
reflect its time period? The only things that allow us to know how it affected the time period is,
how the ship was made, there clothing, different level of people class, and lastly how the ship
was ran. What made us understand this tragic event much better though, well the movie that
won a ton of academy awards helped breakdown this historical event. The award winning movie
was produced in December of 1997. They started producing the movie in 1995, it cost over $200
million to create the movie. They recreated the ship in Baja, California, they used computers and
scaled models to recreate the ship and the sinking of the ship. The main actors of the movie were
Jack Dawson (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), Rose Dewitt Bukater (played by Kate Winslet). An
interesting fact about the movie is, the two main characters weren t actually passengers on the ship,
the names were just made up for the movie. However, they did

Literary Analysis Of The Painted Bird
Oyuki Paniagua
Professor Brienza Larsen
English 1B
July 21 2017
Different
It s hard to imagine having your entire family murdered as a young kid, living in a century where
war attacks were in every corner. This was the life of the young boy in the story The Painted Bird.
Although the author, Jerzy Kosinski, never confirmed the book as an autobiography, it was easy
to feel the pain as if he experienced it himself. The Painted Bird is a heartfelt novel that gives us
all a glimpse into the dark reality of our past. The author is able to walk us through what I
believe was his life. We are lead through a series of trauma the young boy experienced. The boy
shares the dark reality that anyone that is that vulnerable can be tortured, abused and killed by
anyone, including family. The boy s tragic life is a testimony of how terrifying life was like
during the world war. Nevertheless, it seems as though life was just a bit tougher for him because
he was different. Life can be difficult for many people, but it is undeniable that being different can
affect the way others view you. *Such life was Kosinskis, Being different than the people around
him made him a target.
Through the juxtaposition of childish innocence and the most brutal forms of fallen adult
experience, such works sum up the universal trauma of war in a myth of unrivaled concentration
and clarity. (Houghton)
In the beginning of the story, the author introduces us to the life he was exposed to. We learn

Economics And The Classical System
1.Economics would be better described by a variation on the term chrematistique rather than our
current discipline s name, which stems from oeconomica because there is a natural way of making
money and the unnatural way of making money. In the book Teachings From The World
Philosophy it states that there are the elements of true wealth but there is also another art of
acquisition, which is commonly and rightly called the art of making money (Heilbroner 8). I
believe that there is a merit in splitting economicsinto Marginalist and a Classical approach to
economics because the classical system was a circular process between production and
consumption and Marginalism is a one way avenue from production to consumption. If these did
not spilt then I believe no one would agree on anything because they are two different views
which also I believe gave us the best possible set up because it allowed to perspectives for people to
think about.
2.Economics did not exist for many centuries still after Aristotle defined the root oeconomica
because in the early portion of civilized life there were only two method; traditional and command.
Traditional was the passage of tasks/jobs, from one generation to the other, which still holds in
some under develop countries and command, which was the enforcement of economic survival by
dictatorship. Both of these worked because they were simple and did not need any economic
expansion, which means there was no need for and

The Incarceration Of The United States
Overview
The United States has the highest prison population in the world, with over two million
incarcerated (World Prison Brief, 2016), of whom many are juveniles. It is well documented that
youths who enter this system are more likely to suffer a host of negative health and lifestyle
outcomes, such as alcohol/drug abuse, high school dropout, and mental health problems. Such
phenomena occur in stark contrast with the aims of the US juvenile justice system, which
supposedly intends to help offending youths re assimilate back into society as productive citizens.
As previously mentioned, incarceration often leads to poor mental health, which when combined
with the conditions of confinement significantly raises the rates of suicide and ... Show more content

Adolescents sentenced within the US juvenile justice system have especially high rates of recidivism
(when compared with their adult counterparts), with male juveniles incarcerated at a rate five times
higher than females (Sickmund et al., 2015). African Americans are an especially vulnerable
demographic within this group. In numbers similar to the adult incarcerated population, youths of
color are found in disproportionate numbers in every step of the US juvenile justice system, with
African American youths confined at nearly five times the rate of their white peers (The Annie E.
Casey Foundation, 2013). Additionally, number of prior offences is an important factor, as first
time offenders are much less likely to re offend than those with previous offences (Harrison et al.,
2001). Gang related activity and offenses were avoided for the purpose of this study, as gang
affiliation has an effect on the juveniles responses to the positive peer pressure of Teen Court
programs. It is important to note, however, that for juveniles, previous incarceration acts as an even
greater risk factor for future incarceration than gang membership (Holman Ziedenberg, 2006). It is
important to note that only participants who completed the program were included in the analysis.
Research shows that of those who participate in Teen Court programs, those who complete their
sentence are significantly

  • 2. Working Together in Robert Frost s Mending Wall Essay Working Together in Robert Frost s Mending Wall The air is cool and crisp. Roosters can be heard welcoming the sun to a new day and a woman is seen, wearing a clean colorful wrap about her body and head, her shadow casting a lone silhouette on the stone wall. The woman leans over to slide a piece of paper into one of the cracks, hoping her prayer will be heard in this city of Jerusalem. Millions are inserting their prayers into the walls of Japanese temples, while an inmate in one of a hundred prisons across the United States looks past his wall toward the prayers he did not keep. Billions fall asleep each night surrounded by four walls and thousands travel to China to witness the grandest one of all. Who builds walls and who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He blames it upon the cold ravages of a winter swell and the indifferent attitude of hunters searching out a hare. By leaving the question a mystery the speaker is able to entertain himself with fantasies of elves and ideas of fiction, to fill a winter s long mind made mischievious by the spring season (Lentricchia 105). In defense of why a wall should be maintained the farmer merely states his father s saying, Good fences make good neighbors (Frost 28). The farmer does not have any real proof of why the wall should be put back each spring, when there is no threat of livestock crossing the borders. When questioned a second time he gave the same answer and again without giving the reason why fences make good neighbors. Family tradition and work ethic seem to be this farmer s motivation. He seeks to get the wall completed where the speaker appears more entertained by the activity (Barry 145). The farmer s mechanical repair of the fence is imagined in the eyes of the speaker as an old stone savage armed (Stanford 40). Before attitudes can be discussed first the poem s moral must be decided. Mending Wall does not take the approach of right and wrong, rather it shows two perspectives. There is the speaker who seeks a release from the dull ritual of work each spring and the farmer, who is trapped by work and the New England past (Lentricchia 106). Two ... • 3. Advertisement Is A Perfect Example Of Postmodernism... The Dove Evolution advertisement is a perfect example of postmodernism advertising and complements the above discussion of hyper reality. The advertisement presents the full process in creating a billboard worthy advertisement. Firstly, the segment provides a behind the scenes look at how the model is, essentially created , and shows the audience how the original image becomes the final product, unlike modernist advertisements which just presents an already final and beautiful product. Emphasis on the use of photo shop illustrates how technology has become a tool in modern day advertising and highlights Baudrillard s (1994) view that the people of today live in an unreal and fake world. Filming and disseminating this process allows us to live without the illusions that modernity dangled before us (Hart pg 9) The background classical music that has been slightly distorted illustrates Hart s (2004) belief that Postmodernismtakes what it likes from high culture(classical music) and puts it to work in popular culture(advertising) (Pg 8, Hart, 2004), further illustrating the idea that postmodernism involves removing things out of their contexts, fragmenting them...and, well, playing with them (pg 8, Hart, 2004). The final cut shows the billboard up, without showing the process of how that image came to be, reiterating Mills (1956) argument that the public would be unable to tell that it is a hyper real image. • 5. A Central Theme or Motif in the Play Othello, Is Jealousy Jealousy is the central theme in the play Othello by William Shakespeare. It is the most famous literary work that focuses on the dangers of jealousy. The play is a study of how jealousy can ruin lives even with only the most circumstantial evidence of guilt. The play opens in Venice and revolves mainly around a man called Othello. It s his actions and thoughts which makes the play interesting and suspenseful. Themes such as love, jealousy, betrayal, honesty and vengeance are all important and widely portrayed throughout the play. However, as we venture into the play and the character Othello, we will realise that jealousy is ultimately the most important theme of them all. It is the fundamental element that fuels the characters and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His lack of experience brought upon his ruin. Jealousy is described throughout the play as a monstrous emotion or more specifically, a green eyed monster . This becomes increasingly more destructive and intense. However, it s at the end of the play that Othello commits extreme actions because his jealousy has caused him to believe everything is true. Jealousy here is harnessed as a weapon, a weapon made so lethal because its victim ultimately destroys himself and others around him. It is interesting that Iago uses jealousy against Othello, as jealousy is likely the source of Iago s hatred in the first place. In Othello, jealousy takes many forms, from sexual suspicion to professional competition, but it is, in all cases, destructive. However, this jealousy was not originally prominent Othello, but was rather developed through Iago s numerous plans of destruction, which is understood through Othello s change in personality and actions taken. By studying the text Othello by William Shakespeare, we are able to understand that jealousy is a powerful emotion, one that can destroy relationships, and consume the mind. Whether sexual or platonic, once the seed of jealousy is planted it can lead to devastating consequences, as seen in the play. Jealousy can easily turn into anger, and overwhelm it s victim making them obsessed with the notion. In the play Othello, many of the characters fall victim to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Clarity, Arrangement, Credibility, And Expectations The five cognate strategies I chose were, Clarity, Tone, Arrangement, Credibility, and Expectations. Clarity in writing is giving a clear understanding about what you are talking about. I ve used clarity in my writing as a screenwriter by describing a character with clear and precise wording. An example would be, I am leaving for vacation tomorrow and I won t be back for a month. Lisa Taylor will take over my position in my absence. Take care . Clarity is when you are explicit with the details you are relaying in your message. Specific details are key. Tone is how you express yourself. The mood of the information you re relaying. I ve used Tone in my screenwriting to set a certain tone to the scene. If it s dark and creepy feeling, I ll say it s dark and theirs a hissing sound in the air .An example would be I feel really good about the new changes that are being implemented here in this office. Comparing Frankenstein And Gothic Literature Brianna Cairon Mrs. Schroder Honors English IV 8 December 2016 Frankenstein and Gothic Literature To define gothic literature, someone might state that this genre includes mystery and horror in writing with characters fighting for power over one another. The stories written in this way typically include strange and mysterious locations that characters find themselves in as well as horrific situations. Ingolstadt represents the unknown in certain ways. For example, it is the place that doctor Frankenstein spends most his young adulthood studying and creating the creature. This place is where the most horrific situations begin including the abandonment of his family, search for knowledge, and creation of the most dangerous human like being. In contrast, Geneva represents some sort of safe haven for doctor Frankenstein. In the beginning of the novel, this location is where he grew up and had a fairly normal childhood. In contrast, it is where he flees to forget about his blunder and removes himself from the depressing situation. Inevitably, Geneva transforms into a dark place after the murder of Frankenstein s youngest brother. This once again shows the mystery side of the story, and readers could only wonder if the ugly creature had anything to do with it. Likewise, the forest the organism spends his time in after his abandonment shows similar characteristics of mystery, but differs by adding the aspect of loneliness. The creature could never understand why the majority of people were afraid of him and shamed him. Therefore, he decides to reside in a cold and lonely forest, living in a small hut. Eventually, Frankenstein finds his creature in these woods and they meet again and discuss the life he has lived, observing the family that lives by him, learning and developing language and social skills, and trying to survive. Here, doctor Frankenstein begins to truly understand what he had created and he realizes that this creature only longed for love and to be loved after his struggle to fit in. But once the creature was aware of his inability to be normal and live his life as a regular human, his desire to be loved transformed into anger and resentment towards ... Cataracts tend to get worse over time, and they can even cause you to lose your sight entirely. Fortunately, diagnosing and treating cataracts is fairly simple. It all starts with an eye exam. Here s what you can expect. The Comprehensive Eye Examination If you suspect you have cataracts, your eye doctor will probably do a comprehensive eye examination. In fact, you may not even know you have them until your eye doctor finds them on a routine eye examination. Once the cataracts grow large enough to cause vision problems, you may still be able to postpone surgery for a few years by wearing glasses and adjusting your prescription occasionally as the cataracts grow. If your cataracts are very slow growing, they may never get bad enough to require surgery. However, if your cataracts develop quickly, or they get so large that your poor vision affects your quality of life or makes it unsafe to drive, then cataract surgery might be the best option. During the surgery, the eye doctor removes your clouded lens and replaces it with an artificial lens so your vision is clear once again. Based on the results of your eye examination, your doctor can help you decide if surgery is the best option at the time, or if it is better to postpone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The D-Bart Company Case Introduction D Bart Industries is an organization in that manufacturing industry that fabricates precision parts for medical equipment and airplane parts. This newly formed firm was created from the merger of two previous competitors, Davis Manufacturing and Bartlund Technologies. Moreover, these organizations were managed significantly different: Erik Bartlund greatly empowered his employees and fostered a climate of innovation and product development, while Ted Davis relied on a stringent hierarchy of command and control to create quality products. Also, Davis industries were unionized, while Bartlund remained nonunion, a structure that was carried over to D Bart. After the merger, the large company initially consisted of nine total geographically separated locations; therefore, to scale back, management decided to close the San Jose plant and move the majority of employees to San Francisco location. • 21. The Transportation Security Administration Is An Integral... In our time, the Transportation Security Administration is an integral part of airports in the United States. One cannot simply travel on a plane without going through the metal detectors or being instructed to take off his or her shoes to check for bombs. Many travelers regard the TSA to be a hassle, as it adds hours into the process of boarding a flight. Some treat it as a necessary evil; they believe that the presence of the TSA is needed to offset the vulnerable state of airports. However, the need for safety does not mean that the TSA is completely justified. The Transportation Security Administrationfails to do its job in serving the public. Its policies and practices infringe on people s privacy, have questionable effectiveness, and pose health risks, while its employees behave unprofessionally and have inadequate training for their jobs. Alternative securitymeasures and internal reform will help the Transportation Security Administration do its job better and raise public opinion. The year 2001 marked a radical shift in behavior at airports. Whereas before there were few restrictions on baggage items, after the September 11 tragedy, the U.S. government significantly tightened regulations regarding what could be taken on a plane. Missional Hermeneutic Essay The thesis of this paper is that a missional hermeneutic is an appropriate reading of the Bible because it nurtures a listening engagement by the church that is crucial for mutual God conversation with those outside the church. This paper will argue this thesis by engaging Richard Bauckham s book Bibleand Mission as a framework for understanding a missional hermeneutic. Bauckham s central theme of the relationship between the particular and the universal, can offer keen insight as to how a missional hermeneutic nurtures a listening engagement with local contexts. Additionally, via this framework, the paper will show how a missional reading of the scripture develops in us a theology that moves us into a listening engagement with our community and the world. Being a cheerleader has many different meanings, such as sideline, competitive, and college. Whenever you hear the word cheerleader, you probably think of a image of a little girl yelling and jumping on the sidelines at a football game; however, this is only one type of a cheerleader. The three types of cheerleaders are high schoolcheerleaders, all star cheerleaders, and collegecheerleaders. They are all different in many ways which include different venues, skill levels, and benefits. High school cheerleading is where all the fun begins. The venues are usually held at a football field or a basketball court. At high school football and basketball games the crowds are generally smaller than at a college game. Most cheerleading teams are required to attend a cheer camp in the summer. Depending on which cheer camp you attend, venues can vary from the beach to a college or even your own high school. Some high school cheerleading teams are allowed to compete competitively against other cheerleading teams. These cheerleading teams get to experience cheerleading competitions. The cheerleading competitions consist of many cheer mats, lots of judges, and huge crowds. On the other hand, skill level in high school cheerleading is not quite as elite as all star or college cheerleading. Most high school cheerleading teams do not require a back handspring, but there are some cheerleading teams that do require a standing back handspring or a standing tuck. When stunting in high school, certain stunts are illegal, such as basket tosses with flips or flipping in a pyramid without someone holding onto the middle flyer. Also, in pyramids everyone must be connected. There are many benefits you get from high school cheerleading that include learning teamwork, leadership skills, and discipline. As someone who was born in Norway, and has visited several whaling towns, I feel that I have some idea of the importance of whaling to Norwegian cultures and national identity. Although Japan is culturally and geographically a very different place to Norway, I feel that the importance of whaling to both cultures provides some similarities between the two nations. 1. Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption? I find this particular question a difficult one to answer. Whaling is a notoriously cruel method of hunting there is no humane way to kill a whale at sea. Many die a slow, painful death (Whale and Dolphin Conservation, n.d.). There is also concern from whale scientists about the effect of the hunting of whales on whale communities and populations (Whale and Dolphin Conservation, n.d.). It cannot be denied that whaling is an inhumane process, with serious repercussions for the whale species. However, I do feel that Norway and Japan should be able to exercise their right to self determination (as expressed in the UN s Universal Declaration of Human Rights). Through looking at the history of the era, the intentions of the playwright, and the critical analysis and commentary offered on the play, it is in my opinion that Sophocles intended Creon to be the character who was in the right, not Antigone. The start of theater and drama in Ancient Greece took form in about 5th century b.c, with Sophocles being considered the master of tragedy. In his plays and those of the same genre, classic fables that the people of the era knew well were used to tell the stories. The tragic hero s of these stories often strive to live honorable and righteous lives, but because of some mistake their lives would often great and noble death. The idea that serving the state was proper way to gain honor was a popular belief during this time period. This philosophy was echoed by Plato in his book, the Republic. Plato dealt with establishing the ideal state. The way to achieve the ideal state was through striving for justice. Justice, according to Plato, is doing only the tasks assigned to them by nature. This is the fundamental notion for his creation of an ideal city. It is both knowing what true justice is and where one belongs in the city that the ideal can be achieved. Bruce Dawe represents the identity of two very different types of people in his poems Homo Suburbiensis and Drifters where he represents the identity of his subjects through more of a specific description of a certain set of people and not any person in particular in an informative tone , while Dorothea Mackellar focuses more on her own identity in her poem, My... This is done through the latinised title, sounding like a scientific name for an animal, rather than a human being. The informative tone is also present in this poem as it is in the previous poem. As we look through a proverbial magnifying glass into the life of the man, the poem examines even the smallest of details during those few seconds the man spends in his garden as we observe him. We learn that he is in a vegetable patch and the line all the things he takes down with him there suggests more than garden tools, but also his thoughts, specifically his problems and worries, which may be depicted as a weight one may be carrying. This suggests to us that his vegetable patch is a sanctuary, his own personal private place of relaxation where he can sink into his own mind and think things over. The second stanza uses sensory imagery to let the reader put himself in the place of the man in the garden, no longer simply observing him, which helps the reader develop a more accurate picture of exactly the state of mind the man may be in during his time in his garden. With this large description and use of dramatic diction, Homer is able to express a tone of sorrow through the desperation and events that have occurred in the stories. Causes Of Generalized Anxiety Disorders Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18% of the population. (National Institute of Mental Health). Anxiety is the Central Nervous System s response to a sense of threat or danger. For those that feel an anxietyattack or episode, it triggers a Fight or Flight response. When we are in danger, this response is very helpful to help us get out of the situation. Unfortunately for those with Anxiety, this response can be triggered at things much smaller than a life or death situation. Although most people will feel this anxious feeling at some time in their life, not everyone has anxiety as a disorder. Generalized Anxiety Disorder(GAD) is defined... But, for some people, talking isn t enough because although another perspective is powerful, it won t fix the chemical imbalance. The most common treatment for depression and anxiety is anti depressants: especially reuptake inhibitors. Most of these inhibitors are for serotonin or norepinephrine, and they work by stopping the brain from taking up too much of these drugs. But, Buspirone is an anti anxiety medicine that is only used for anxiety. It is important to mention all of these treatments take time. With medicine or with counseling, there isn t a one time fix. • 41. The Sinking Of The Titanic Essay On April 10, 1912, the Titanic, largest ship afloat, left Southampton, England on her maiden voyage to New York City. (The sinking of the Titanic) There were 2,200 women, men, children, and work crew members that made the voyage over to the United States, but little did they know that only 705 would actually step foot on United States territory. This tragedy struck over 100 years ago, but is still constantly brought up by many people to this day. But one reason that it s still brought up is because of the award winning movie, but how does the sinking of the Titanic reflect its time period? The only things that allow us to know how it affected the time period is, how the ship was made, there clothing, different level of people class, and lastly how the ship was ran. What made us understand this tragic event much better though, well the movie that won a ton of academy awards helped breakdown this historical event. The award winning movie was produced in December of 1997. They started producing the movie in 1995, it cost over $200 million to create the movie. They recreated the ship in Baja, California, they used computers and scaled models to recreate the ship and the sinking of the ship. The main actors of the movie were Jack Dawson (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), Rose Dewitt Bukater (played by Kate Winslet). An interesting fact about the movie is, the two main characters weren t actually passengers on the ship, the names were just made up for the movie. However, they did ... • 42. Literary Analysis Of The Painted Bird Oyuki Paniagua Professor Brienza Larsen English 1B July 21 2017 Different It s hard to imagine having your entire family murdered as a young kid, living in a century where war attacks were in every corner. This was the life of the young boy in the story The Painted Bird. Although the author, Jerzy Kosinski, never confirmed the book as an autobiography, it was easy to feel the pain as if he experienced it himself. The Painted Bird is a heartfelt novel that gives us all a glimpse into the dark reality of our past. The author is able to walk us through what I believe was his life. We are lead through a series of trauma the young boy experienced. The boy shares the dark reality that anyone that is that vulnerable can be tortured, abused and killed by anyone, including family. The boy s tragic life is a testimony of how terrifying life was like during the world war. Nevertheless, it seems as though life was just a bit tougher for him because he was different. Life can be difficult for many people, but it is undeniable that being different can affect the way others view you. *Such life was Kosinskis, Being different than the people around him made him a target. Through the juxtaposition of childish innocence and the most brutal forms of fallen adult experience, such works sum up the universal trauma of war in a myth of unrivaled concentration and clarity. (Houghton) In the beginning of the story, the author introduces us to the life he was exposed to. We learn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Economics And The Classical System 1.Economics would be better described by a variation on the term chrematistique rather than our current discipline s name, which stems from oeconomica because there is a natural way of making money and the unnatural way of making money. In the book Teachings From The World Philosophy it states that there are the elements of true wealth but there is also another art of acquisition, which is commonly and rightly called the art of making money (Heilbroner 8). I believe that there is a merit in splitting economicsinto Marginalist and a Classical approach to economics because the classical system was a circular process between production and consumption and Marginalism is a one way avenue from production to consumption. If these did not spilt then I believe no one would agree on anything because they are two different views which also I believe gave us the best possible set up because it allowed to perspectives for people to think about. 2.Economics did not exist for many centuries still after Aristotle defined the root oeconomica because in the early portion of civilized life there were only two method; traditional and command. Traditional was the passage of tasks/jobs, from one generation to the other, which still holds in some under develop countries and command, which was the enforcement of economic survival by dictatorship. Both of these worked because they were simple and did not need any economic expansion, which means there was no need for and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Incarceration Of The United States Overview The United States has the highest prison population in the world, with over two million incarcerated (World Prison Brief, 2016), of whom many are juveniles. It is well documented that youths who enter this system are more likely to suffer a host of negative health and lifestyle outcomes, such as alcohol/drug abuse, high school dropout, and mental health problems. Such phenomena occur in stark contrast with the aims of the US juvenile justice system, which supposedly intends to help offending youths re assimilate back into society as productive citizens. As previously mentioned, incarceration often leads to poor mental health, which when combined with the conditions of confinement significantly raises the rates of suicide and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adolescents sentenced within the US juvenile justice system have especially high rates of recidivism (when compared with their adult counterparts), with male juveniles incarcerated at a rate five times higher than females (Sickmund et al., 2015). African Americans are an especially vulnerable demographic within this group. In numbers similar to the adult incarcerated population, youths of color are found in disproportionate numbers in every step of the US juvenile justice system, with African American youths confined at nearly five times the rate of their white peers (The Annie E. Casey Foundation, 2013). Additionally, number of prior offences is an important factor, as first time offenders are much less likely to re offend than those with previous offences (Harrison et al., 2001). Gang related activity and offenses were avoided for the purpose of this study, as gang affiliation has an effect on the juveniles responses to the positive peer pressure of Teen Court programs. It is important to note, however, that for juveniles, previous incarceration acts as an even greater risk factor for future incarceration than gang membership (Holman Ziedenberg, 2006). It is important to note that only participants who completed the program were included in the analysis. Research shows that of those who participate in Teen Court programs, those who complete their sentence are significantly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
