Cognitive Processes
Running head: COGNITIVE PROCESSES
Cognitive Processes
Kimberly Benoit
University of Phoenix
Abstract
Cognitive processes helps to obtain information and make conscious and subconscious assumptions
about the world around us. There are five conventional senses are utilized in this complex process as a
way of gathering information. Cognitive processes are unobservable; researchers remain to study ways
to come up with behaviors or measures of performance to mirror cognitive processes (Robinson
Reigler Robinson Reigler, 2008). The intention of this paper is to describe memory, language and
learning. Explanation of these cognitive processes will be carefully explored. A summarization of
these studies will evaluate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Learning is how we adapt, develop, change and grow. Language, explains how and why an individual
understands what another person has written or expressed (Gregory Robertson Riegler, 2008). When
children acquire a first language, they build on what they know as well as conceptual information that
discriminates and helps create categories for the objects, relations and events they experience. This
provides the starting point for language from the age of 12 months on. So children first set up
conceptual representations, then add linguistic representations for talking about experience (Denise
Boyd, 2002).
Learning
Learning is distinguished from behavioral changes arising from such processes as maturation and
illness (Reuters, 2012). Learning is not just a change in behavior; it is a change in the way an
individual thinks, understands, or feels (Gregory Robertson Riegler, 2008). The ability to learn is one
of the most exceptional human characteristics. Learning occurs continuously throughout a person s
lifetime. To define learning, it is necessary to analyze what happens to the individual. An individual s
way of perceiving, thinking, feeling, and doing may change as a result of a learning experience.
Nevertheless, learning can be characterized as a change in behavior as a result of experience. This can
be physical and evident, or it may involve intricate intellectual or attitudinal changes which affect
behavior in more subtle ways (Colman, 2006). Learning

The Negative Issue Of The Minimum Legal Drinking Age
Around the world, various minimum legal drinking ages (MLDA) exist. There are countries like
Vietnam and Fiji who have no law at all, countries like Belgium and Germany with low ages of
sixteen or seventeen, and countries like the United States and India with ages as high as twenty one
(McCardell 21). Up until 1984 the United States had no federal MLDA law, and it was up to the states
to decide, but the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 changed all that: setting the national
legal age of twenty one. (CDC). Since then the MLDA has been a controversial topic with people
arguing for it to be lowered to eighteen and others suggesting it should stay the same. Which poses the
question should the legal drinking age in the United States be lowered to eighteen?
Before thoroughly researching the topic my opinion, like most college students, was that it should
absolutely be lowered to eighteen. It is important to note, that my father owns a beer distributor and
lowering the MLDA to eighteen would give him and other distributors across America access to
millions of more customers, which gives me an extra reason to believe that it should be lowered.
Despite that, after investigating the issue further, I firmly believe that the MDLA should not be
lowered to eighteen because because there is a high correlation between alcohol consumption and
personal health, a higher drinking age is better for public safety, and underage drinking has negative
effects on the economy.

The And Republican Party Establishment
The GOP and Republican Party establishment elites are no longer on the side of the true American.
The true America is what our founding fathers had risked and gave up so much to establish with the
Declaration of Independence and the signing of The Constitution. Unfortunately in this election cycle,
the establishment has made it very clear that they are more concerned with their political party elitist
ideals than being a representative of the American voter.
Each political party has a duty to its voter base. The duty of the modern Republican Party, after much
evolvement since its official formation just prior to the Civil War, is supposed to stand up for
conservative American values, which include, but aren t limited to:
The Bill of Rights and The Constitution
Religious freedom and liberty, not allowing small groups who are offended by Christianity to be able
to impose their will over Christianity
Limiting government control over citizen s lives
Maintaining a strong military to protect this country from its enemies
Only authorizing a tax system that allows for prosperity and growth, not penalizing those who succeed
The last seven plus years under a Barrack Obama presidency, the GOP and elected Republican
officials have stood by and allowed the continued downfall of America and the American way of life.
They stood by and did nothing. The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obama Care, was
passed which forced Americans to purchase health insurance or they

Titanium appears on the periodic table under the symbol...
Titanium appears on the periodic table under the symbol Ti. The transition metal is known for being
very strong. When a person thinks of an element that is very strong, they also think that the item
would be very heavy. Titanium is different; the element is very strong, but it is also very light weight.
Since Titanium is so strong, it is named after the strong Greek mythology Titans (History of
Titanium). The element, Titanium, is one of the most abundant elements. The metallic element is
found in many alloys; those alloys are found in many items today (The Editors). The top physical
property that titanium is recognized for is its strength to weight ratio. Titanium is very strong, but it is
very light weight. The element is lustrous; it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The factors also make it a great candidate for surgical instruments. Since the element is resistant to
corrosion from things such as sea water and chlorine, it is often found being used in the industrial
world. One of the most common places that Titanium is found is in desalination plants, which convert
sea water into drinking water. The element is used in heat exchangers; if the heat exchangers were
made of a different element they would need to be replaced more often due to corrosion. A very strong
alloy is produced when Titanium is combined with iron, aluminum, vanadium, and molybdenum. This
alloy is found in large items such as: jet engines, missiles, spacecraft, military equipment, and even
automobiles. The alloy is also used in many things that we are known to love. Americans usually carry
items with them everyday that are made up of this alloy. For example, right now in my car I have
many items that are made up of the alloy such as: jewelry, a cell phone, and a football helmet grill
(History of Titanium). The element, Titanium, has a very low toxicity. Although, when Titanium is in
powder form it is becomes a fire hazard (Titanium). The other time that Titanium is a hazard is when it
is heated in the air. The element then becomes an explosive hazard. When Titanium does catch on fire,
a normal fire extinguisher will not put out the

Why Is Law Enforcement Important
Law Enforcement
Angela Primiano

Instructor: Donald Mason

Every society has rules to go by and laws that must not be broken and along with that is the criminal
justice that even gives the criminal rights. Criminals in the United States are to be given their rights
and not to have harm to them in any way under the justice system as they may be freed from their
prosecution and their case be acquitted if found in their favor if an act of unjust or immoral conduct
has been found. Law enforcement professionals must execute justice by upholding the law in an
ethical and constitutional manner. The United States Department of Justice seeks to prevent or resolve
community conflicts and tensions arising ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bandura believes that people decide whether or not to adopt what behavior s they observe (Bandura,
1977). There is a common perception that a criminal is has suffered a deprived childhood, or is from a
broken home and lacks a good education etc, but this is not true fact as there is all kinds that go astray
and for no apparent reason. As someone may have a good life and has made it big and all of a sudden
that is not good enough for them and they decide that embezzling millions from their company they
work for is a good ideal for unknown reasons. Law enforcement professionals use criminal theory to
understand criminal actions as Sutherland s major sociological contribution to criminology was a
differential association theory as it was similar to the importance to the strain theory and social control
theory. The individual s social relationship explains the deviance of these theories. Both biological and
classical theories, poses no obvious threats to the humane treatment of those identified as criminals.
(Gaylord, 1988:1) In the 1939 edition of Principles of Criminology, the first statement of the theory of
differential association appears and in the fourth edition as he presents his final theory. As follows his
theory has 9 basic postulates. 1. Criminal behavior is learned.
Criminal behavior is not inherited and does not invent criminal behavior.
2. Criminal behavior is learned through

b. Synopsis. The Defence of Duffer s Drift is a book in which the author, Captain Swinton , has six
dreams in succession. Captain Swinton drempt that Lieutenant Backsight Forethought must defend a
drift in South Africa against the enemy Boer at all cost. In each dream he overlooks or makes a
mistake, which is catastrophic and costs the battle and the lives of his men. He learns from each dream
the mistakes he made and carries on from dream to dream the general lesson previously learnt. In total
he carries over (22 lessons) which ultimately brings him success and victory in the end.

portrayed to be duty bound and displayed selfless service. Despite being defeated several times in the
defense of the Drift, he continued to press on and fulfill his commitment. Lieutenant BF put the
welfare of his soldiers before his own. When he knew he had suffered tremendous losses and heavy
casualties he surrendered in hopes to spare his men and obtain aid for the injured.

The Effects Of Extracurricular Activities On Sports...
Although many theorists criticize that the extracurricular activities takes valuable time from the
family, relaxation and leisure time, especially sport participation requires more and more time due to
its increase in competiveness and amount of practice (Melman et al., 2008; Shaw et al., 1996 in
Fredericks, 2012). In Fredericks study (2012), the unique time requirement in sports participation is
explained as an enforcer to develop even stronger relationships, better refinement of the skills and
most importantly more conscientiousness. The media concentrates on the highly involved students,
which make approximately 3 6% of the entire high school student body, that clock in over 20 h per
week, whereas the average of students participates 7 8 h per week in afterschool program, which
means they stay for less then 1.5 h more after school (Fredericks, 2012). Paradoxically, according to
Mahoney et al. (2006 in Fredericks, 2012) actually the most involved students, at least 20 h/per week,
showed better capability in adjusting to the academically and psychological demands. These results
are only applicable to a very few amount of students and not to the majority of the American
population.
In research, a small correlation between intensity of the extracurricular activity and negative
adjustment has been proven in boys, but overall the achievement pressure made by parents, the
athletes themselves, the society, the century we live in and their surroundings has shown to be much

Death Of Innocence By Mamie Till- Mobley
Death of Innocence is a non fictional novel written by Mamie Till Mobley about the tragedy of her son
s brutal murder. Emmett Louis Till was born on July 25, 1941 to parents Louis Till, and Mamie Till
Mobley, Emmett was born breeched, and was going to endure multiple health complications in his
short fourteen years. Emmett wanted to visit family in Mississippi although Mama and Mamie were
very hesitant. They tried to educate Emmett the dangers of a black person in the South. Emmett was
born in Chicago, and was not aware of the type of racism blacks endured in the South. Unfortunately,
due to Emmett s heath complications when he started to stutter Emmett would whistle. A black male
whistling at a white woman during this time of age was prohibited. Mamie educated Emmett before he
left that he should not even walk on the same side of the street as a white woman. Emmett apparently
whistled at a white woman while in a store. This led to white racists kidnapping him in the middle of
the night and inhumanly murdered Emmett on August 28, 1955. Mamie chose to have an open casket
funeral for Emmett. Though it was hard for her to turn her privacy of grieving the loss of her son, she
chose to turn this into a public issue. She became an activist for the black community and educated
children and churches on lynches. Emmett s death led to America s civil rights movement. Growing
up in Chicago Mamie did not experience as much racism as she would have in the South. When she

Descriptive Essay About A Tree
There s a flower garden in one corner, a garden with tomatoes and cucumbers in the other, and a tall
hedge that grows along the outer edge, where the edge of the yard buts up against the neighbor s.
There are two apple trees on either side that drop hundreds of red delicious every other year or so;
they make delicious apple sauce. One, large oak tree is the alpha of the yard; it lumbers over the house
and shades the entire lawn. This small, suburban yard not only housed my mother s imagination, but
mine and all my cousins as well. My grandparent s backyard might seem ordinary, but it is actually
quite special. The giant oak tree, the shed, the swing set, and my grandmother s garden are all special
locations in the yard that continue to be sacred places for me.
The outdoors has been one of my favorite places to be for as long as I can remember. As a child, I
spent most afternoons galloping across the yard and through the trees pretending I was various
animals or just being with the trees. I ve always felt extremely connected to all living things, so it s no
surprise that the massive oak tree in my grandparents backyard holds a special place in my heart. The
oak resides in the direct center of the yard and must be at least three feet in diameter. This tree holds
so much life, squirrels, birds and chipmunks constantly jump from branch to branch and beautiful
green leaves sprout across every square inch. I wanted to exist closer to this energy, I wanted to
experience what it

Descriptive Essay On The Carousel
Years later, that fateful day still carries piercing images. Today, I can recall fragments of it. Yet they
are all vivid. In fact, they are so vivid that it saddens me when they appear in my mind. The vibrant
colors racing around, filling me with the utmost joy, making me laugh, and think, and question, and
smile. I always thought it would be perpetual, a never ending ride with all else forming a blurred
background as I ride up and down, up and down, up and down... I never stopped to think how the
carousel got where it was, for it just seemed to appear. One day I just saw it and climbed atop one of
those horses that at one moment makes me feel like I rule all that lies below me, but at another makes
me realize that it is I who looks up to it. Once the motor is turned on, all that exists seems to be me
and the carousel, our only difference being that the carousel has existed to see me arrive, while I
appear on the verge of taking it for granted. It s not that I don t love it, for I truly do. It s just that the
carousel is merely another aspect of my life, joining my toys, my afternoon lunch, the homework I
receive from my second grade teacher, the games of catch with my dad. From the carousel s
perspective, I give it a purpose, an additional reason to exist. It takes delight in the fact that it has
made me happy, made me who I am today. Alas, it is only after the carousel had left when I had first
taken a moment to consider this perspective. It wasn t gradual, as I had thought it would be. One
usually hears the grinding of the gears in the motor, feels the deceleration, sees the sights slow their
panoramic journey from one eye to the other as their seat floats gracefully down to the platform. You
know it s ending. You know that your time with it is done. Yet on this particular carousel, this thought
never entered my mind. That is, until that cold December eve, I am lying wrapped three times over in
my softest blankets, having slept no more than five hours, and I recall dreaming of this image of a
grand carousel. As I said, mere fragments remain, yet vivid ones. Almost like those collectible ones in
the department store windows at Christmas time, the red and white roof pointing high to the

Spain, the United States and defined the border between the United States and Spanish Mexico.
Signatories to the agreement were US Secretary of State John Adams and Spanish Foreign Minister

The United States has long tried to purchase from Spain the Florida but only in 1818 in the Spanish

Based on the information that there are plenty of oranges out there, demand will decrease if the price
is too high which will drive the price to drop.
C. The American Medical Association announces that drinking orange juice can reduce the risk of
heart attack.
This information will cause the demand for orange juice and orange products to increase. The supply
stays the same which will not be able to support the demand in return causes prices to increase for
orange products.
D. The price of Florida grapefruit falls.
The prices of Florida grapefruit falls will cause demand for orange to drop shifting to the left. This
will cause the supply to increase due to lower demand for the product and eventually will causes
prices to drop for oranges until equilibrium is reach

Rising jet fuel prices recently led most major US airlines to raise fares by approximately 15 percent.
Explain how this substantial increase in airfares would affect the following:
A. The demand for air travel.
The increase in airfare will causes traveling demand to decrease since people are finding out means to
travel rather not travel as much anymore since they are not willing to paying for the higher price. B.
The demand for hotels?
The demand for hotels will also decrease because less people are traveling for vacation due to rise in
airfare. This will shift the demand curve to the right.

The Disappearance of the Bees Essay
The Disappearance of the Bees If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would
only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals,
no more man. The quote above is often attributed to Albert Einstein but was actually believed to have
been said by this brilliant man is not true. It was originally written down by Maurice Maeterlinck in
his work The Life of the Bee in 1901( Exploring the origins of quotations ). But the position being
taken today is not about who actually truly made this quote but the truths that can be attributed to it.

Another event more recently was reported in Pennsylvania where Keepers reported a 53% loss of their
hives. But what made this event most serious was the loss of 1/3rd of bee hives within the United
States as a whole. This event appeared to have no particular rhyme or reason for this cause and no
singular circumstance could be pointed to as an exact cause of such mass destruction of one species
that is crucial to food production within the United States ( Honey Bees and Colony Collapse Disorder
). Value of the honey bee: The honey bee is vital to an estimated $117 billion annual production of
crops through pollination within the United States more than a half of the food that humans consume
has a correlation with the bee either directly or indirectly. The USDA reports the following food
products would be immediately damaged if no bees were available to pollinate: This information is
only the tip of the iceberg dealing only with crop worth/food but does not mention the incalculable
amount bees have on the ecosystem as a whole ( Vanishing Bees ). Many plants rely heavily on bees
as their main pollinator to reproduce. The main fear is that even though many flowers also rely on
mammals and other insects to assist in the pollination process, bees are the biggest and most vital
source of this life cycle. As the bees disappear the reproduction process of many plants does not
happen as efficiently thus less plants are produced, this

 Note the types and sheer volume of the arts/images revealed in this film. What might be the
cumulative effect of 150+ years of these images on Americans?
I noticed that the majority of the plethora of pictures shown in this video were that Blacks, women,
men, and even the children, were very dark, had eyes and lips bulging out, jovial and content with
slavery, and were usually portrayed eating watermelon. Americans seeing these pictures for 150+
years would eventually emit off the fact that most, if not all, Blacks looked like this and were content
of slavery. The pictures evoking off the savage like pictures would give off the fact that Blacks freed
from slavery would end up like this to humanity, acting all savagely to Whites. All of these caricatures
were far from the truth of the reality of how Blacks were; rather, they were drawn up by Whites who
manipulated the White society to believe that these caricatures were facts, which in reality, they were
not.

Events of World War II
World War2, many events took place in history. In World War2,these events had most been written
about the holocaust, ration books, Green Police, and the famous concentration and death camp of that
time. In 1939, people started and needed to use ration books. German submarines attacked British and
American ships, so many supplies had to be cut short. During this time, the Nazi created an

5 Fascinating Movies About Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs are the flavour of the year and today everyone is either one or on the way to becoming
one. Fueled by the drive to earn more than what most jobs can give, rock star like adulation achieved
by those who make it, and with success stories that run into billions of dollars, being an entrepreneur
is the new black. In fact those of us who are 30 plus would still remember that just two to three
decades back, being an entrepreneur, especially if you were male, meant that you were either morally
bankrupt or worse stupid, and either of which, by the way, substantially brought down your value in
the marriage market.
But times are a changing, the days ahead are heady, and for those who have or are planning to take the
plunge, here are five films that are worth watching. They are not just inspiring, you might even pick
up a few business and even life lessons in the process.
Tom Cruise plays the title role in Jerry Maguire (1996), and works for a sports management company
as their star agent. He is fired when he writes and circulates a memo pointing out the wrongs of their
business. It is then that he decides to build from scratch a business based on his newly discovered
philosophy. And in that he has the support of just one athlete, Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and one
employee, played by Renée Zellweger. Jerry realizes it is easier said than done, learns a lot along the

efficient administration and economic stability. His policies were beneficial for the working class and
poor and when the senate tried to pass a law regarding patrons having the right to repeal freedom of a
freedman, he quickly denied the request. Other economic reforms included the tax cuts of
approximately three percent, because there were complaints of over taxation of the poor. The more
oppressive sources of revenue he either abolished or moderated (Suetonius, 263) He also reduced the
price of food by dropping tariffs on imported products such as grain. This allowed economics to
flourish throughout the Roman Empire and he created a much more fair system that actually was used
to aid the populace. It gave the people security and Rome thrived with it new institutional structures,
stability, and its governmental reforms that efficiently worked. The positive influence Nero had on
Rome gave him popular support from the masses.

Millions of same sex couples contribute to our way of life. They contribute culturally, politically,
socially, and spiritually. Legalizing same sex marriage in the United States makes a statement that all
Americans are valued and deserve equal rights, which includes the rights received in a legal marital
union. Taking this step we are supporting cultural diversity and reducing prejudice (7 Ways the U.S.A.
Benefits from the Legalization of Gay Marriage, 2013).
2. Gays as Couples and as Individuals Will Be Better Off
Studies continue to demonstrate that people who marry tend to be better off with financial and medical
health. One of the most important aspects of gay marriage is that it establishes legal rights for couples
which makes it easier for people to make social and legal commitments for one another. Most of the
rights and privileges that go with marriage are the ways spouses can support one another. Married
couples are in a better circumstance together than unmarried couples allowing the ability for those
relationships to develop stronger and deeper

Wilfred Owen Hero s Journey
For Sassoon, the deterioration of a pastoral English dream into a garish mournful nightmare is an
interior phenomenon attributable to the horrible experiences of martial life. In the poetry of Wilfred
Owen, conversely, it is war that literally disfigures the once nourishing earth corrupting it until the
very mud of the field is as threatening as the guns of the enemy. As Sandra Gilbert explains, the
landscape of the war was barely a landscape in the ordinary sense of the word, but rather a gigantic
charnel house (Gilbert 184). Thus, while a soldier might dream of Thomas Hardy s England as we
have seen Sassoon do, the reality of his surroundings was its near antithesis. Further, quoting Eric
Leed, Gilbert asserts that while [t]he battlefield ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This way, if to the living the once picturesque fields of Flanders portend only death and anguish, then
those same fields seem to offer an absurd, pastoral oasis to the dead. We see this much in Owen s
Apologia Pro Poemate Meo, where we learn that the poem s narrator, in death, saw God through mud
(1). Where in Miners the earth threatens to consume and extinguish the soldier, here after his demise it
offers freedom. We see this, for example, when the narrator cannot help but admit how [m]erry it was
to laugh there in the earth, [w]here death becomes absurd and life absurder (5 6). While living, the
narrator continues, power was on us as we slashed bones bare / Not to feel sickness or remorse of
murder; in death, the soldiers have dropped off Fear...[a]nd witnessed exultation (7 9, 13). In
surrendering to the earth, therefore, the narrator seems to permanently achieve a pastoral escapism
akin to those in which we have already seen Sassoon and Owen attempt. To allow him to remain there,
however, would be to ignore the poem s Latin title. According to the Norton editors, Owen s Apologia
translates to an Apology for My Poem an apology, of course, in the sense of a written vindication of

Andrew Jackson Tyrant Essay
Should we assume that a president was a tyrant or a champion of the common man based solely on
how they acted or should we step into their shoes first? Andrew Jackson s presidency made him one of
the most controversial presidents that has ever existed in the history of the United States of America.
Andrew Jackson for many was a cruel tyrant who reinstated the tax on british goods with Tariff of

Andrew Jackson also created the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which end result would be the Trail of

Lifetime Value of Customer
Lifetime Value of Customer The firm chosen to analyze is Anugraha Jewellers. The company was
incorporated in 1994. The company is based in India and it manufactures and sells gold jewellery. The
lifetime value of a customer is an essential metric for business owners who wish to capture the profits
associated with customer loyalty. The process starts by collecting data on existing customers and then
extrapolating that data to predict the value of potential customers. For the present company under
study, financial data were collected (Moneycontrol.com, 2012) and used as applicable to evaluate
some metrics related to customer lifetime value. The total number of customers is not usually listed on
these financial statements so per customer calculations are restricted. Many companies focus on
getting new customers and while new customers help to ensure the growth of the company, they may
not be as profitable as the returning customers since there is a cost to acquiring new customers. The
revenue per customer is tracked by determining the average amount spent per purchase by the
customer. Since the firm under study is custom jewellery this data may be easily tracked. The profit
and loss statement shows sales for successive twelve month periods. The revenue per customer is
obtained by dividing the revenue by the average number of customers. The profit per customer may be
obtained once certain other data are collected. For example the cost per new customer may be

The Story Of Tom Brennan Essay
Individuals respond in various ways to transitioning into a new phase of life and society, these
transitions can be challenging and confronting. They can also be transformative and thus some
individuals accept and others reject because it ll often initiate a series of consequences that may

ideas are manifested in J.C Burke s, The story of Tom Brennan, a move about the transitions that

Visual Impairment Nursing
Introduction Visual impairment is a common and debilitating symptom of multiple sclerosis (MS).
Acute optic neuritis (AON) occurs in over 50% of patients and subclinical optic nerve injury is
frequent even in the absence of optic neuritis (Arnold, 2005). Double vision and oscillopsia from
efferent disorders may also significantly impact vision related quality of life. Despite the prevalence of
visual deficits, it has only been over the last decade that MS clinical trials have begun to regularly
include visual outcomes [57]. This trend has been supported by the implementation of highly sensitive
tools with the ability to detect structural and functional visual deficits in patients with MS. Among
structural instruments, optical coherence tomography ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
VEP amplitude is a measure of the number of actionable fibers relaying information to the visual

addition to measures of amplitude, VEP measures latency, which is a reflection of visual pathway
myelin, a measure that uniquely highlights demyelination and remyelination [54, ]. Multi focal VEP

measures of detecting disease evolution than MRI [ ]. In the context of MS, mfERG, another
instrument used to expand knowledge of the summed responses of the visual field, provides highly
stereotyped information about the optic nerve head component, which is thought to reflect axonal
properties of the GCL [44, ]. Continued study and validation of these tests as they relate to function

An Unethical Dilemma Of A Dentist
After looking at various articles on the Dentaltown website, I came across an interesting article that
showed an unethical dilemma. In this article, a dentist (lower priced dentist) is talking about an 83
year old patient that came into his office for a second opinion. The lower priced dentist mentions that
the woman needed some basic dental work done to her teeth to keep them healthy. While (deleted
comma) the woman was at her general dentist, the dentist was attempting to force the woman to get a
more expensive cosmetic work done. Her general dentist provided her with an expensive treatment
plan for approximately $14,700. Upon hearing the cost, the patient went for a second opinion from
another dentist in town. After looking at her x rays, she was given another inexpensive treatment
option using composite now and later putting in crowns if needed. The patient got her work done with
the inexpensive treatment and goes back to her regular dentist for a routine check up. She told her
regular dentist about the bonding work done instead of the crowns. At hearing this, he replied that he
could have done that for her as well. I believe this was unethical for a variety of reasons. First reason
is that her general dentist attempted to force the woman to get cosmetic dental work done instead of
just focusing on keeping her teeth healthy. Second reason, is after talking the patient into getting
cosmetic work done he tried to over charge her for the treatment. Third, the dentist

Government Conspiracy Theory
Government or Controlled Demolition The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated
terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al Qaeda in the United States on the morning of
Tuesday, September 11, 2001. They attacked the Twin Towers in New York City. There are different
conspiracy theories with the 9/11 attack but the most important conspiracy theory is that the collapse
of the twin towers were the result of controlled demolition by the government rather than structural
failure due to impact and fire. Now the question remains, was it controlled demolition or was it
terrorist attacking the World Trade Center on purpose? This conspiracy theory revolves around
authorities knowing about the attackers and also guiding them to complete their terror attack. None of
the deaths would have happened without the deliberate unplugging of Americas air defense. The twin
tower did not fall of plane impacts or fire. People claim that jet fuel doesn t melt steel beams. It was a
controlled explosion by the government. Our mission is to expose the official lies in a way that
inspires the people to overcome denial and understand the truth. People want answers to what
happened that morning, devastation all around. Conspiracy theorists believe that the government
dismissed all the signs that were in their face because this attack was a controlled demolition. Dr.
Griffin concluded that, it is already possible to know, beyond a reasonable doubt, one very important
thing: the

Artemisia Gentileschi Analysis
Italian Baroque painter, Artemisia Gentileschi, was born in Rome in 1593 and was the daughter of
Orazio Gentileschi, an established artist. Her artistic training began under her father, however she was
denied admission to art academies because of overwhelming sexism and misogyny in her time. When
training under a friend of her father, she experienced a traumatic sexual assault for which there was a
grueling publicized trial. Her painting began to reflect her emotional processing and recovery from her
trauma and the trial, and her works often depicted formidable women retaliating against misogynist
and evil men like her rapist. Graphic realism and the use of light and dark contrast, or chiaroscuro,
only heighten the emotional weight of her work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The publicity from the trial and judicial documents of the case overshadowed Artemisia s artistic
contributions and she was widely overlooked by critics, who were preoccupied with her sexual
assault. In her time, women were heavily defined by their sexual history, the over sexualized
interpretation of Artemisia in trial documents depict her as a sexual creature to be judged by all
(Cohen 2000, 47). In the past, Artemisia was blamed for her own trauma as she was made out to be a
flirtatious and hypersexual women, but today we can better revere her art and try to understand her
story and we can think of her more as a progressive feminist and a resistor of male violence (Cohen
2000, Abstract). Artemisia s works primarily feature strong and suffering women from myth and the
Bible (Wikimedia Foundation), including victims of violence or abuse, women who have committed
suicide, and warrior women. Two works that embody the style and depth of Artemisia s painting

The Causes Of Premature Neonates
Introduction
Premature neonates or preterm babies refer to the neonates that are born before 37 weeks of gestation
are over. Given that most of the body organs are not completely developed at this stage, the neonates
have a high risk of developing many complications at birth. A good example of these organs is the
lungs, which completely mature by week 36 of gestation. The surfactant production does not begin
until 20 weeks of gestation age; at this stage of gestation surfactant only present in small amount and
in immature form. The mature surfactant production begins approximately after 35 weeks of gestation
age. Even though the lung has mature surfactant at this stage it is not completely capable of
respiratory function. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, even if these methods have managed to reduce mortality in preterm infants, they are
associated with serious adverse effects that may be fatal or contribute to chronic conditions later in life

According to DiBlasi, even in animal models, the conventional methods cause inflammation of the
lungs and sometimes cause injure to the lungs.1 These techniques also cause redundancy in alveolar
growth and also affect the efficacy of surfactant produced in the animal lung.1 This is a good signal
that these techniques may have serious consequences in the neonate. One of the adverse effects of
invasive and mechanical ventilation is ventilator induced lung injury.1 This complication is defined by
the presence of polytrauma (excessive tidal volume) and shear injury to the airways, a condition
known as atelectrauma.1 Insertion of the endotracheal tube into the lungs through the airways also
causes injury to the lungs and the airways, a condition known as endotrauma.1
Insertion of the endotracheal tube through the airways is also a painful procedure that may need the
neonate to be sedated first. According to DiBlasi, insertion of the tube may also cause acute airway
injury, emergencies, an infestation of the airway with bacteria,

Titus Andronicus And Hamlet Essay
The purpose of this essay is to discuss, comment and explore the father child relations in Shakespeare
s plays Titus Andronicus and Hamlet. Both of these plays are traditional Senecan tragedies (Cahn
1988:1) focusing on a central figure that tries to take revenge byusingactions that prove to be more
destructive than the ones that triggered the wish for vengeance in the first place, and they cause the
downfall of the avenger (Cahn 1988:1). Both plays imply the relationship between father and children
even though the period in which the actions are taking place are different. Therefore, the familial
values could differ, there are similarities in the way these fathers are treating their children and the
expectations they have from them. In both plays the relations between the paternal figure and the
children trigger the acts of revenge and the death of the heroes, but the difference occurs when it
comes to the person who takes revenge. Titus represents the paternal authority (Kahn1997:48) and the
ideal of a character during the Roman Empire: severity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

soul (Cahn 1988:64) into the man that Old Hamlet always wanted his son to be. Hamlet embraces the
occasion to avenge his father in order to compensate for a life during which his actions were regarded
as a failure by Old Hamlet. Even though Hamlet was not close to him, his father s principles are

Qantas Groups performance over the 2007 to 2011 period has been relatively poor mainly as a result

Qantas is likely to continue to dominate the domestic airline industry with the success of Jetstar
prompting expansion into the Asia Pacific region. The most significant threats facing Qantas include
high fuel prices, the value of the Australian dollar and industrial action. A comprehensive financial

The airports in major cities around the world are also operated on a monopoly basis and therefore are
able to charge airlines high fees. The above examples have showed that the bargaining power of
supplies for the airline industry is considerably large and often play an important role in the operations
and level of profitability amongst the airlines.
Rivalry among the Existing Players: The level of competition between the airlines is very high. One
reason for this is the increase in popularity of low cost airlines, who employ innovative business
models to differentiate themselves and drive the profitability of their businesses. Another reason is
attributable to the nature of operation of the airlines the marginal cost of having extra passengers on a
scheduled flight is close to zero, which implies that airlines are capable of varying the price of air
tickets from time to time, or even engaging in price wars with their rivals. For instance, the recently
banned operation of Tiger Airways has created opportunity for two other major domestic airlines in
Australia, Jetstar and Virgin Blue, to increase prices in order to take advantage of the less competitive
environment and to increase their market shares.

Functionalist View of Religion Essay

There are several key elements that are found in every society. These elements are called cultural
universals. One of these cultural universals is religion. From the earliest known societies to our every
day modern lives religion has performed many vital functions. To explore these necessary duties of
religion we must first understand the definition of religion. Many describe religion as a feeling or
presence of a supernatural being. Others say religion is more of a self awareness or inner peace.

No matter what the religion or what criteria necessary for attaining the salvation that religion teaches,
it is clear that the only manifest function of religion points to salvation. There have been many latent
functions of religion in society as well. These are some of the unintended uses of religion as a whole.
One of the major latent functions of religion is the psychological effects it has in individual lives
(Dance, 2010). As Weber said religion helps people deal with the inevitable problems of existence like
sickness, pain, and eventually death. Religion for any time and any culture has helped to lead people
through the difficult stages of life. It gives the support and tools necessary to cross the difficult
thresholds that come our way; from childhood, to adolescence, to adulthood, to old age, and
eventually to the final exit, death. Every religion has certain rituals and beliefs that accompany these
stages of life. Many ancient religions had certain incantations and spells that were chanted over
someone that was sick or diseased. Many modern religions pray to their respective deity in hopes that
the inflicted person would be healed. From the earliest known religions there has always been some
religious significance when someone passes away. Funeral processions in ancient Egypt would
sometimes last several months where every orchestrated event was to appease their gods and

What Has Changed The Role Of Education In The 1920 s
Between 1870 to 1988, there has been a significant change in education which has affected the type of
education we have today. The main change in education has been the curriculum and the access to
education. Society and education have been developed immensely that has allowed women and
working class children to have access to education.
Since 1870, the education curriculum has seen many changes of development that has had a positive
outcome on education. Three main identified changes are the shift of emphasis from the person to the

  • 2. Cognitive Processes Running head: COGNITIVE PROCESSES Cognitive Processes Kimberly Benoit University of Phoenix Abstract Cognitive processes helps to obtain information and make conscious and subconscious assumptions about the world around us. There are five conventional senses are utilized in this complex process as a way of gathering information. Cognitive processes are unobservable; researchers remain to study ways to come up with behaviors or measures of performance to mirror cognitive processes (Robinson Reigler Robinson Reigler, 2008). The intention of this paper is to describe memory, language and learning. Explanation of these cognitive processes will be carefully explored. A summarization of these studies will evaluate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Learning is how we adapt, develop, change and grow. Language, explains how and why an individual understands what another person has written or expressed (Gregory Robertson Riegler, 2008). When children acquire a first language, they build on what they know as well as conceptual information that discriminates and helps create categories for the objects, relations and events they experience. This provides the starting point for language from the age of 12 months on. So children first set up conceptual representations, then add linguistic representations for talking about experience (Denise Boyd, 2002). Learning Learning is distinguished from behavioral changes arising from such processes as maturation and illness (Reuters, 2012). Learning is not just a change in behavior; it is a change in the way an individual thinks, understands, or feels (Gregory Robertson Riegler, 2008). The ability to learn is one of the most exceptional human characteristics. Learning occurs continuously throughout a person s lifetime. To define learning, it is necessary to analyze what happens to the individual. An individual s way of perceiving, thinking, feeling, and doing may change as a result of a learning experience. Nevertheless, learning can be characterized as a change in behavior as a result of experience. This can be physical and evident, or it may involve intricate intellectual or attitudinal changes which affect behavior in more subtle ways (Colman, 2006). Learning ... • 3. The Negative Issue Of The Minimum Legal Drinking Age Around the world, various minimum legal drinking ages (MLDA) exist. There are countries like Vietnam and Fiji who have no law at all, countries like Belgium and Germany with low ages of sixteen or seventeen, and countries like the United States and India with ages as high as twenty one (McCardell 21). Up until 1984 the United States had no federal MLDA law, and it was up to the states to decide, but the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 changed all that: setting the national legal age of twenty one. (CDC). Since then the MLDA has been a controversial topic with people arguing for it to be lowered to eighteen and others suggesting it should stay the same. Which poses the question should the legal drinking age in the United States be lowered to eighteen? Before thoroughly researching the topic my opinion, like most college students, was that it should absolutely be lowered to eighteen. It is important to note, that my father owns a beer distributor and lowering the MLDA to eighteen would give him and other distributors across America access to millions of more customers, which gives me an extra reason to believe that it should be lowered. Despite that, after investigating the issue further, I firmly believe that the MDLA should not be lowered to eighteen because because there is a high correlation between alcohol consumption and personal health, a higher drinking age is better for public safety, and underage drinking has negative effects on the economy. According to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The And Republican Party Establishment The GOP and Republican Party establishment elites are no longer on the side of the true American. The true America is what our founding fathers had risked and gave up so much to establish with the Declaration of Independence and the signing of The Constitution. Unfortunately in this election cycle, the establishment has made it very clear that they are more concerned with their political party elitist ideals than being a representative of the American voter. Each political party has a duty to its voter base. The duty of the modern Republican Party, after much evolvement since its official formation just prior to the Civil War, is supposed to stand up for conservative American values, which include, but aren t limited to: The Bill of Rights and The Constitution Religious freedom and liberty, not allowing small groups who are offended by Christianity to be able to impose their will over Christianity Limiting government control over citizen s lives Maintaining a strong military to protect this country from its enemies Only authorizing a tax system that allows for prosperity and growth, not penalizing those who succeed The last seven plus years under a Barrack Obama presidency, the GOP and elected Republican officials have stood by and allowed the continued downfall of America and the American way of life. They stood by and did nothing. The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obama Care, was passed which forced Americans to purchase health insurance or they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When a person thinks of an element that is very strong, they also think that the item would be very heavy. Titanium is different; the element is very strong, but it is also very light weight. Since Titanium is so strong, it is named after the strong Greek mythology Titans (History of Titanium). The element, Titanium, is one of the most abundant elements. The metallic element is found in many alloys; those alloys are found in many items today (The Editors). The top physical property that titanium is recognized for is its strength to weight ratio. Since the element is resistant to corrosion from things such as sea water and chlorine, it is often found being used in the industrial world. One of the most common places that Titanium is found is in desalination plants, which convert sea water into drinking water. The element is used in heat exchangers; if the heat exchangers were made of a different element they would need to be replaced more often due to corrosion. A very strong alloy is produced when Titanium is combined with iron, aluminum, vanadium, and molybdenum. This alloy is found in large items such as: jet engines, missiles, spacecraft, military equipment, and even automobiles. The alloy is also used in many things that we are known to love. Americans usually carry items with them everyday that are made up of this alloy. For example, right now in my car I have many items that are made up of the alloy such as: jewelry, a cell phone, and a football helmet grill (History of Titanium). The element, Titanium, has a very low toxicity. Although, when Titanium is in powder form it is becomes a fire hazard (Titanium). The other time that Titanium is a hazard is when it is heated in the air. The element then becomes an explosive hazard. Why Is Law Enforcement Important Law Enforcement Angela Primiano CRJ 201 Instructor: Donald Mason January 13, 2012 Every society has rules to go by and laws that must not be broken and along with that is the criminal justice that even gives the criminal rights. Criminals in the United States are to be given their rights and not to have harm to them in any way under the justice system as they may be freed from their prosecution and their case be acquitted if found in their favor if an act of unjust or immoral conduct has been found. Bandura believes that people decide whether or not to adopt what behavior s they observe (Bandura, 1977). There is a common perception that a criminal is has suffered a deprived childhood, or is from a broken home and lacks a good education etc, but this is not true fact as there is all kinds that go astray and for no apparent reason. As someone may have a good life and has made it big and all of a sudden that is not good enough for them and they decide that embezzling millions from their company they work for is a good ideal for unknown reasons. Law enforcement professionals use criminal theory to understand criminal actions as Sutherland s major sociological contribution to criminology was a differential association theory as it was similar to the importance to the strain theory and social control theory. The individual s social relationship explains the deviance of these theories. Both biological and classical theories, poses no obvious threats to the humane treatment of those identified as criminals. (Gaylord, 1988:1) In the 1939 edition of Principles of Criminology, the first statement of the theory of differential association appears and in the fourth edition as he presents his final theory. As follows his theory has 9 basic postulates. 1. Criminal behavior is learned. Criminal behavior is not inherited and does not invent criminal behavior. 2. Criminal behavior is learned through ... Although many theorists criticize that the extracurricular activities takes valuable time from the family, relaxation and leisure time, especially sport participation requires more and more time due to its increase in competiveness and amount of practice (Melman et al., 2008; Shaw et al., 1996 in Fredericks, 2012). In Fredericks study (2012), the unique time requirement in sports participation is explained as an enforcer to develop even stronger relationships, better refinement of the skills and most importantly more conscientiousness. The media concentrates on the highly involved students, which make approximately 3 6% of the entire high school student body, that clock in over 20 h per week, whereas the average of students participates 7 8 h per week in afterschool program, which means they stay for less then 1.5 h more after school (Fredericks, 2012). Paradoxically, according to Mahoney et al. (2006 in Fredericks, 2012) actually the most involved students, at least 20 h/per week, showed better capability in adjusting to the academically and psychological demands. These results are only applicable to a very few amount of students and not to the majority of the American population. In research, a small correlation between intensity of the extracurricular activity and negative adjustment has been proven in boys, but overall the achievement pressure made by parents, the athletes themselves, the society, the century we live in and their surroundings has shown to be much more ... Emmett Louis Till was born on July 25, 1941 to parents Louis Till, and Mamie Till Mobley, Emmett was born breeched, and was going to endure multiple health complications in his short fourteen years. Emmett wanted to visit family in Mississippi although Mama and Mamie were very hesitant. They tried to educate Emmett the dangers of a black person in the South. Emmett was born in Chicago, and was not aware of the type of racism blacks endured in the South. Unfortunately, due to Emmett s heath complications when he started to stutter Emmett would whistle. A black male whistling at a white woman during this time of age was prohibited. Mamie educated Emmett before he left that he should not even walk on the same side of the street as a white woman. Emmett apparently whistled at a white woman while in a store. This led to white racists kidnapping him in the middle of the night and inhumanly murdered Emmett on August 28, 1955. Mamie chose to have an open casket funeral for Emmett. Though it was hard for her to turn her privacy of grieving the loss of her son, she chose to turn this into a public issue. There are two apple trees on either side that drop hundreds of red delicious every other year or so; they make delicious apple sauce. One, large oak tree is the alpha of the yard; it lumbers over the house and shades the entire lawn. The giant oak tree, the shed, the swing set, and my grandmother s garden are all special locations in the yard that continue to be sacred places for me. The outdoors has been one of my favorite places to be for as long as I can remember. As a child, I spent most afternoons galloping across the yard and through the trees pretending I was various animals or just being with the trees. • 12. Descriptive Essay On The Carousel Years later, that fateful day still carries piercing images. Today, I can recall fragments of it. Yet they are all vivid. In fact, they are so vivid that it saddens me when they appear in my mind. The vibrant colors racing around, filling me with the utmost joy, making me laugh, and think, and question, and smile. I always thought it would be perpetual, a never ending ride with all else forming a blurred background as I ride up and down, up and down, up and down... I never stopped to think how the carousel got where it was, for it just seemed to appear. One day I just saw it and climbed atop one of those horses that at one moment makes me feel like I rule all that lies below me, but at another makes me realize that it is I who looks up to it. Once the motor is turned on, all that exists seems to be me and the carousel, our only difference being that the carousel has existed to see me arrive, while I appear on the verge of taking it for granted. It s not that I don t love it, for I truly do. It s just that the carousel is merely another aspect of my life, joining my toys, my afternoon lunch, the homework I receive from my second grade teacher, the games of catch with my dad. From the carousel s perspective, I give it a purpose, an additional reason to exist. It takes delight in the fact that it has made me happy, made me who I am today. Alas, it is only after the carousel had left when I had first taken a moment to consider this perspective. It wasn t gradual, as I had thought it would be. One usually hears the grinding of the gears in the motor, feels the deceleration, sees the sights slow their panoramic journey from one eye to the other as their seat floats gracefully down to the platform. You know it s ending. You know that your time with it is done. Yet on this particular carousel, this thought never entered my mind. That is, until that cold December eve, I am lying wrapped three times over in my softest blankets, having slept no more than five hours, and I recall dreaming of this image of a grand carousel. As I said, mere fragments remain, yet vivid ones. Almost like those collectible ones in the department store windows at Christmas time, the red and white roof pointing high to the ... Wilfred Owen Hero s Journey For Sassoon, the deterioration of a pastoral English dream into a garish mournful nightmare is an interior phenomenon attributable to the horrible experiences of martial life. In the poetry of Wilfred Owen, conversely, it is war that literally disfigures the once nourishing earth corrupting it until the very mud of the field is as threatening as the guns of the enemy. As Sandra Gilbert explains, the landscape of the war was barely a landscape in the ordinary sense of the word, but rather a gigantic charnel house (Gilbert 184). Acute optic neuritis (AON) occurs in over 50% of patients and subclinical optic nerve injury is frequent even in the absence of optic neuritis (Arnold, 2005). Double vision and oscillopsia from efferent disorders may also significantly impact vision related quality of life. Despite the prevalence of visual deficits, it has only been over the last decade that MS clinical trials have begun to regularly include visual outcomes [57]. This trend has been supported by the implementation of highly sensitive tools with the ability to detect structural and functional visual deficits in patients with MS. Among structural instruments, optical coherence tomography ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... VEP amplitude is a measure of the number of actionable fibers relaying information to the visual cortex. Reductions in amplitude can be transient or the result of axonal loss following AON [ , ]. In addition to measures of amplitude, VEP measures latency, which is a reflection of visual pathway myelin, a measure that uniquely highlights demyelination and remyelination [54, ]. Multi focal VEP measures multiple, focal VEPs to create a topographic record of optic nerve amplitude and latency [54, ]. Kantorova and colleagues have found there to be a positive association between VEP latency and EDSS score for both AON and non AON MS patients, suggesting VEP tests to be more sensitive measures of detecting disease evolution than MRI [ ]. In the context of MS, mfERG, another instrument used to expand knowledge of the summed responses of the visual field, provides highly stereotyped information about the optic nerve head component, which is thought to reflect axonal properties of the GCL [44, ]. Continued study and validation of these tests as they relate to function are necessary and will allow us to further refine our understanding of the visual impairments affecting MS ... • 30. An Unethical Dilemma Of A Dentist After looking at various articles on the Dentaltown website, I came across an interesting article that showed an unethical dilemma. In this article, a dentist (lower priced dentist) is talking about an 83 year old patient that came into his office for a second opinion. The lower priced dentist mentions that the woman needed some basic dental work done to her teeth to keep them healthy. While (deleted comma) the woman was at her general dentist, the dentist was attempting to force the woman to get a more expensive cosmetic work done. Her general dentist provided her with an expensive treatment plan for approximately $14,700. Upon hearing the cost, the patient went for a second opinion from another dentist in town. After looking at her x rays, she was given another inexpensive treatment option using composite now and later putting in crowns if needed. The patient got her work done with the inexpensive treatment and goes back to her regular dentist for a routine check up. She told her regular dentist about the bonding work done instead of the crowns. At hearing this, he replied that he could have done that for her as well. I believe this was unethical for a variety of reasons. First reason is that her general dentist attempted to force the woman to get cosmetic dental work done instead of just focusing on keeping her teeth healthy. Second reason, is after talking the patient into getting cosmetic work done he tried to over charge her for the treatment. Third, the dentist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Government Conspiracy Theory Government or Controlled Demolition The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al Qaeda in the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. They attacked the Twin Towers in New York City. There are different conspiracy theories with the 9/11 attack but the most important conspiracy theory is that the collapse of the twin towers were the result of controlled demolition by the government rather than structural failure due to impact and fire. Now the question remains, was it controlled demolition or was it terrorist attacking the World Trade Center on purpose? This conspiracy theory revolves around authorities knowing about the attackers and also guiding them to complete their terror attack. None of the deaths would have happened without the deliberate unplugging of Americas air defense. The twin tower did not fall of plane impacts or fire. People claim that jet fuel doesn t melt steel beams. It was a controlled explosion by the government. Our mission is to expose the official lies in a way that inspires the people to overcome denial and understand the truth. People want answers to what happened that morning, devastation all around. Conspiracy theorists believe that the government dismissed all the signs that were in their face because this attack was a controlled demolition. Dr. Griffin concluded that, it is already possible to know, beyond a reasonable doubt, one very important thing: the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Artemisia Gentileschi Analysis Italian Baroque painter, Artemisia Gentileschi, was born in Rome in 1593 and was the daughter of Orazio Gentileschi, an established artist. Her artistic training began under her father, however she was denied admission to art academies because of overwhelming sexism and misogyny in her time. When training under a friend of her father, she experienced a traumatic sexual assault for which there was a grueling publicized trial. Her painting began to reflect her emotional processing and recovery from her trauma and the trial, and her works often depicted formidable women retaliating against misogynist and evil men like her rapist. The publicity from the trial and judicial documents of the case overshadowed Artemisia s artistic contributions and she was widely overlooked by critics, who were preoccupied with her sexual assault. In her time, women were heavily defined by their sexual history, the over sexualized interpretation of Artemisia in trial documents depict her as a sexual creature to be judged by all (Cohen 2000, 47). In the past, Artemisia was blamed for her own trauma as she was made out to be a flirtatious and hypersexual women, but today we can better revere her art and try to understand her story and we can think of her more as a progressive feminist and a resistor of male violence (Cohen 2000, Abstract). • 33. The Causes Of Premature Neonates Introduction Premature neonates or preterm babies refer to the neonates that are born before 37 weeks of gestation are over. Given that most of the body organs are not completely developed at this stage, the neonates have a high risk of developing many complications at birth. A good example of these organs is the lungs, which completely mature by week 36 of gestation. The surfactant production does not begin until 20 weeks of gestation age; at this stage of gestation surfactant only present in small amount and in immature form. The mature surfactant production begins approximately after 35 weeks of gestation age. Even though the lung has mature surfactant at this stage it is not completely capable of respiratory function. One of the adverse effects of invasive and mechanical ventilation is ventilator induced lung injury.1 This complication is defined by the presence of polytrauma (excessive tidal volume) and shear injury to the airways, a condition known as atelectrauma.1 Insertion of the endotracheal tube into the lungs through the airways also causes injury to the lungs and the airways, a condition known as endotrauma.1 Insertion of the endotracheal tube through the airways is also a painful procedure that may need the neonate to be sedated first. • 34. Titus Andronicus And Hamlet Essay The purpose of this essay is to discuss, comment and explore the father child relations in Shakespeare s plays Titus Andronicus and Hamlet. Both of these plays are traditional Senecan tragedies (Cahn 1988:1) focusing on a central figure that tries to take revenge byusingactions that prove to be more destructive than the ones that triggered the wish for vengeance in the first place, and they cause the downfall of the avenger (Cahn 1988:1). Both plays imply the relationship between father and children even though the period in which the actions are taking place are different. Therefore, the familial values could differ, there are similarities in the way these fathers are treating their children and the expectations they have from them. In both plays the relations between the paternal figure and the children trigger the acts of revenge and the death of the heroes, but the difference occurs when it comes to the person who takes revenge. Titus represents the paternal authority (Kahn1997:48) and the ideal of a character during the Roman Empire: severity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hamlet embraces the occasion to avenge his father in order to compensate for a life during which his actions were regarded as a failure by Old Hamlet. Even though Hamlet was not close to him, his father s principles are important to him. The Ghost s persistency in his demands to be revenged comes from the lack of trust he has towards his son and from his hope that Hamlet will take this opportunity in order to be set on the right course (Cahn ... Essay on Hing Yeung Wong 3249438 ACCT5910 Project Executive Summary Qantas Groups performance over the 2007 to 2011 period has been relatively poor mainly as a result of the global financial crisis adversely affecting the firm s international operations. Strategically, Qantas is likely to continue to dominate the domestic airline industry with the success of Jetstar prompting expansion into the Asia Pacific region. The most significant threats facing Qantas include high fuel prices, the value of the Australian dollar and industrial action. The above examples have showed that the bargaining power of supplies for the airline industry is considerably large and often play an important role in the operations and level of profitability amongst the airlines. Rivalry among the Existing Players: The level of competition between the airlines is very high. One reason for this is the increase in popularity of low cost airlines, who employ innovative business models to differentiate themselves and drive the profitability of their businesses. Another reason is attributable to the nature of operation of the airlines the marginal cost of having extra passengers on a scheduled flight is close to zero, which implies that airlines are capable of varying the price of air tickets from time to time, or even engaging in price wars with their rivals. For instance, the recently banned operation of Tiger Airways has created opportunity for two other major domestic airlines in Australia, Jetstar and Virgin Blue, to increase prices in order to take advantage of the less competitive environment and to increase their market shares. No matter what the religion or what criteria necessary for attaining the salvation that religion teaches, it is clear that the only manifest function of religion points to salvation. There have been many latent functions of religion in society as well. These are some of the unintended uses of religion as a whole. One of the major latent functions of religion is the psychological effects it has in individual lives (Dance, 2010). As Weber said religion helps people deal with the inevitable problems of existence like sickness, pain, and eventually death. Religion for any time and any culture has helped to lead people through the difficult stages of life. It gives the support and tools necessary to cross the difficult thresholds that come our way; from childhood, to adolescence, to adulthood, to old age, and eventually to the final exit, death. Every religion has certain rituals and beliefs that accompany these stages of life. Many ancient religions had certain incantations and spells that were chanted over someone that was sick or diseased. Many modern religions pray to their respective deity in hopes that the inflicted person would be healed. From the earliest known religions there has always been some religious significance when someone passes away.
