The document discusses the challenges of writing an essay about Abraham Lincoln. It notes that Lincoln's life was complex, as he had a significant impact on American history but can be interpreted in diverse ways. Writing about him requires thorough research into primary and secondary sources to understand the historical context of his era and engage with different perspectives. The essay should provide an original analysis that contributes new insights about Lincoln rather than just recounting facts. Overall, an essay on Lincoln demands strong research, critical thinking, and synthesis skills to appreciate history and contribute to ongoing discussions about this important leader.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

The temple and the sanctuary around were dedicated to Asklepios Zmidrenus. This name has been known since 1875 when an inscription dedicated to him was discovered in Rome. The inscription is dated in 227 AD and was left by soldiers originating from the city of Philippopolis (modern Plovdiv).
2. The Last Supper With Jesus And The Synoptic Gospels
The Synoptic Gospels describe The Last Supper with Jesus performing many of the
traditional elements found during the Jewish Passover as detailed in Exodus. Jesus,
himself, was a Jewish man and celebrated this tradition as a part of his faith, so it
makes sense that this final meal could hold traditional aspects of a PassoverSeder. The
three Synoptic Gospels seem to demonstrate parallels between a typical Passover
celebration and The Last Supper that Jesusperformed. The Gospelof Luke even calls
in a Passover meal in chapter 22 verse 15.
Joachim Jeremias , The Eucharistic Words of Jesus, comments that there are at
least 14 specific parallels between Jesus Last Supper and the Passover Seder as
seen through Exodus and the Synoptic Gospels. These 14 points include, worship,
discussion of the symbolism of the meal, and bread being consumed. The three
Synoptic Gospels tell of Jesus breaking bread with the disciples to symbolize his
body which is a parallel to the unleavened bread that the Jewish people were to eat
during their Passover meal. In two of the Synoptic Gospels, the group finishes
their meal by singing a hymn before leaving the room which follows Moses
command from God to the Israelites to worship Him after all the other commands
that the Lord had given them for the Passover. During Passover, the recalling of the
original event and symbolism of the parts of the meal are to be told and the same
traditions are to be followed as the Lord had commanded to Moses and

Heritage parks aim is to expand the business and their objectives are to fill up all
their business and room spaces, increase the awareness of the existence of the hotel
and to increase the wedding trade as well as other special occasions. The
achievement of these aims and objectives may be supported by the online presence
because tourists and companies on business trips may be looking for a hotel in the
area that specialises in various activities. Since the hotel has a wide range of
amenities they can cover the majority of their customers interests and for business
meetings the hotel has rooms especially designed for the purpose.
The online presence of the hotel means that the customers can actually see pictures
of the hotel, leisure centre, bedrooms, restaurant and business rooms giving the
customer an idea from where they are sat rather than having to visit the hotel first.
Online booking is effective as it is a much quicker way of bringing money into the
business. Customer feedback and guest books will give new customers a brief view
on what previous customers have thought of the hotel and whether it is a good hotel
or not.
There may be problems that the management would encounter with an online
presence which could be the

5. A Comparison Of Shakespeare In High School
Shakespeare In this essay I will be arguing that shakespeare should be taught in High
School. In my opinion, I think that William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet in the
9th grade curriculum should be taught because it relates to teenagers during this part
of their life as they are going thru love, jealously, and ect.. The three topics of which
teenagers begin to experience during the beginning of their High Schooleducation. As
William Shakespeareonce said, Nice and easy does it; those that run too fast will fall
. Just like 9th graders wanting to experience it all too fast without understanding
what Shakespeare is trying to get across to the reader. In these paragraph i have
how shakespeare relates to teenagers feeling at this age. In my other paragraph i
will be explaining how William became famous all over the world. My third
paragraph with be an counter argument. I will be talking to u about william
shakespeare and how it relate to teenagers feelings. I will now show you two
quotes that ties back to me argument that shakespeare should be taught in school.
William says in romeo and juliet Did my heart love till now? Forswear it sight! For
I ne er saw true beauty till this night. This is an example of love, this shows how
people feel when they first see that one girl that has taken there heart. This ties back
to some teenagers because when they first go into high school they see that one girl
that they have dream about and they will do anything to see her

All of these have already been implemented and we know that they will work for the
environment. Therefore, the government should enforce these solutions and stop the
air pollution in Mexico City.
Air pollution in Mexico City As the vehicle population reached more than 700
million worldwide, numerous cities experiencing rapid industrialization started to
suffer from air pollution (Walsh, 1999). The level of air pollution in any city is a
global concern. The reason is that air can travel freely from place to place;
consequently, the polluted air from one city can travel to another. The polluted air
has numerous negative consequences for human health and also severely
damages the ecosystem. Some of the cities reduced the air pollution level;
however there are still some that are considered to be the most polluted cities in
the world. One of them is Mexico City. According to Forbes, the Mexican capital is
one of the five dirtiest cities of the world (Luck, 2008). The government and people
have take measures in order to reduce the air pollution in Mexico City before it is
too late. The government should practice legal regulations and favor the usage of
hydrogen fuel instead of gasoline in order to reduce the air pollution level in Mexico
City. Mexico City is one of the world s largest metropolitan areas, containing more
than 20 million inhabitants, 3.5 million vehicles, and 35,000
7. Star Life Cycles
There are two different life cycles for stars but they both start out as a Stellar
Nebula . It then splits off in to separate stars the Low Mass and The High Mass stars..
The Start:
Stars are born in a Nebulae which a clouds of dust and gas (mostly hydrogen). In
the stellar nurseries the dense parts undergo gravitational collapse and compress
into a rotating gas globule. The globule is cooled by emitting radio waves and
infrared radiation. It is compressed by gravitational forces and also by shock waves
of pressure from supernova or the hot gas released from nearby bright stars. These
forces cause the roughly spherical globule to collapse and rotate. The process of
collapse takes from between 10,000 to 1,000,000 years.

Ranging
Kidney disease can affect children in various ways, ranging from treatable disorders
without long term consequences to life threatening conditions. According to Inker et
al. (2014), Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI) guidelines defines
acute renal failure (ARF) as the sudden loss of kidneyfunction, generally occurring
over the course of hours to days and resulting in the retention of metabolic waste
products and dysregulation of fluid, electrolyte, and acid base homeostasis. The
purpose of this paper is to describe pathophysiology of ARF, to discuss specific
developmental impact on adolescents with ARF, to review the different teaching

Like adults, most pediatric patients with mild to moderate acute kidney injury are
asymptomatic and are identified on laboratory testing (Rahman et al., 2012). But
pediatric patients with severe cases may be symptomatic and present with oliguria,
edema, fatigue or tiredness, shortness of breath, hypertension, nausea, confusion,
seizures or coma (Rahman et al., 2012). Based primarily on urinalysis and blood
chemistry results BUN, sCreat, sodium, potassium, and calcium levels (London et
al., 2017). The gold standard to diagnose these injuries is kidney biopsy (Faught et
al., 2015).
It is important to identify the disease early because it might be reversible by
stopping the offending agents (Chang et al., 2015; Faught et al., 2015). ARF
results from drug toxicity or dehydration, the prognosis is generally good (London
et al., 2017). However, ARF that results from diseases such as hemolytic uremic
syndrome or acute glomerulonephritis are more likely to develop chronic kidney
disease in the future (London et al., 2017; Rahman et al.; 2012, Vasudevan et al.,
2012). They are also at higher risk of end stage renal disease in later in life (Rahman
et al., 2012). According to Faught et al. (2015), one of the treatment options is to
avoid the use of nephrotoxic drugs, particularly in those at high risk of developing
renal injury. Chang et al. (2015) explained that the initial management of patients
with ARF is a conservative treatment, including prompt
9. The Efficacy Of Group Exposure Therapy
Introduction to the Problem Given the high number of service members returning
home with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, from Operation Iraqi Freedom,
OIF and Operation Enduring Freedom, OEF, it has been priority of the Military
Health System and Veterans Affairs to identify and implement effective treatment
(This is the military, 2014). Exposure therapy is the practice of flooding the client
with images of their traumatic experience in an effort to desensitize them, and help
control and reduce their anxiety (DiMaurio, 2014). This essay will discuss the
efficacy of group exposure therapy when administered to patients with PTSD,
specifically OIF and OEF veterans and service members. The outcome in
successful studies will result in a decrease in PTSD symptoms. The applicability
of the results and implementation of the treatment in alternate settings will also be
discussed. Literature Synthesis ParticipantsMethodology Two studies analyzed the
efficacy of group based exposure therapy. Ready et al. (2012) held three groups of
ten participants with primarily war related induced PTSD. (Ready et al., 2012).
Castillo et al. (2012) study treated 77 woman veterans with primarily sexual abuse
related PTSD. All patients were selected from local VA clinics in the southern
United States. DiMauro performed a meta analysis on 26 studies, with an average
gruop size of 5 participants, to determine the efficacy of exposure therapy in treating
PTSD (DiMauro, 2014). All studies
10. The Tropical Rainforest Biome In Tropical Rainforests
The tropical rainforest biome is an ecosystem covering around 6% of the Earth s
surface and being a home to over 50% of the plant and animal species. These
environments are hot and humid all year round, with the average amount of rainfall
being 250cm per year. The temperatures in a rain forest minimum tends to be around
20OC with the temperature not rising above 34OC regularly. Tropical rainforests are
found spanning from both sides of the equator between the tropic of Cancer and the
tropic of Capricorn meaning rainforests are in Central and South America, Southeast
Asia, Africa and Australia.
Deforestation has been a major concern in tropical rainforests, this is an act of
destructing a forest for multiple reasons including wood supply, agriculture purposes
or the extraction of minerals and energy. Forest loss till date is 18.03 million acres
per year and it has been estimated that within 100 years all rainforests will be
destroyed.

Kathleen Parker s Article, First Three Years Aren t That Critical
Did your mother read to you when you were six weeks old? Did she teach you how
to do math problems when you were two? Recently, I read an issue of Parenting
Magazine and found an article on child development. Kathleen Parker s article, First
Three Years Aren t That Critical tells us that parents today are putting to much
emphasis on what the media and medical journals are saying, instead of using
common sense. The article emphasizes that parents are going overboard on these new
studies using good argumentative techniques. Although I found not all of what she
said was accurate, I still felt she got her point across. Parker uses evidence from

By acknowledging the other viewpoint, the author can still present her argument and
not offend the reader so much that they would quickly side against her. Using these
techniques, the author effectively attracts the readers attention and explains the main
point of the rest of the article.
I noticed that in this article, Parker challenges the media s representation on the
effectiveness of early childhood development by stating that you should not change
how you raise your child based on trivial news articles. Parker lists sources:
Newsweek, the Clintons, and books about early development, as causes for parents
to go overboard on developing their young children. The point that Parker is trying
to get across is that these articles are not reasons for society to change their parental
habits. The author is saying that the news articles can not prove one way or the other
that teaching your child early in life gives them the advantage. Just because an article
says that in some cases child development is effective, it doesn t mean that it is true
or appropriate to change the way you are teaching your two year old. Parker s
technique is to debunk the idea of these sources, and to get the reader to believe in
her side.To further her persuasive article, the author wanted to show that the media
can not prove one way or the other that teaching your child early will affect how
smart they become in life. Parker mentions that Thomas Jefferson s

Defining Firewalls and VPNs
What is a firewall and how does it work?
Many internet users are concerned about internet safety. A way to combat potential
security breaches is to use a firewall. A firewall can be a hardware device or a
program and it is used to filter any information that comes through any internet
connection to your private network or computer system. Harmful information can
be flagged by the firewall program and not be allowed to continue through.
Firewalls use up to three different ways to control the information coming into and
out of the network. The first method is called packet filtering. Packets are little

14. John Grady Character Analysis
There is no need to always be in an agreement with the main character. Our opinions
are developed from our own experiences and how we were raised. As for the
opinion whether John Grady matures, he does grow up to have control over his
emotions. This is seen after killing someone and being in a near death situation.
After being set free, he goes back to where he was arrested to get the horses back. He
was seeking to bring them back to the original owners. This action is perceived to
be taking action into his hands. He is not abiding by the laws of the town the horses
were in. Is John Grady classified as a heroor a vigilante? Is he a hero in the terms set
by society and culture of this novel? What is a hero? What is a vigilante? What is a
hero in the book? A hero is someone who brings justice according to the law of the
land while a vigilante is someone who follows their own philosophyof justice and
administers their philosophy of justice. John Grady is no hero in terms of the

After murdering someone out of acts of self defense, he does not allow his
emotions to get in his way of his goal. Throughout the novel, he has appeared to be

town s law, it was considered a crime against their law. Therefore, he is no hero, but
following his own sense of justice. According to the novel, he is portrayed to be a
hero because he is essentially doing what is right, which is retrieving the horses and
attempting to bring them to the original owners. In the end, the borders between laws
give birth to vigilantes and heroes. In this case the border between right and wrong
are face to face. John Grady was only thinking to bring the horses to the rightful
owner, but by using different means to accomplish the task. In the end, questioning
right and wrong does not lead to the concrete

I had the pleasure of interviewing Christian Schaffer, the Co anchor of Good
Morning Maryland at WMAR TV at ABC 2 News in Baltimore. Broadcast news is
a medium that is thrilling, exciting, and fast paced. Schaffer took time out of his
action filled days as a Co Anchor to allow me to interview him and get inside his
world.
Schaffer s main responsibilities consist of delivering the news accurately and fairly,
without any basis on the topics reported. One of his biggest challenges he faces is
delivering the news in a fair and honest way. He also touched on how he strives to be
entertaining and personable and deliver the news in such a way that gets people to
continue watching day after day. In news, there is a stress to maintain audiences due
to the amount of competition from other new sources.
A typical day in the life for Christian is very busy and keeps him on his toes. He

Zinc is a mineral that plays major roles in the body. For instance, it plays a role in
the anabolism of proteins as well of the development of proteins. In addition, it
affects cell division and gene expression. Zinc is also needed in reproductive and
immune system (Fink and Heitner 2014). There are individuals that do not have an
adequate amount of zincin their everyday diets and doctors recommend that they take
over the counter supplements to prevent serious health problems.
The body has a certain amount of zinc in the bloodstream, which helps the body to be
healthy and to function properly. According to the National Institute of Health
(2011), the amount of zinc one needs depends on age and gender. As one gets older

18. Feminism In The Yellow Wallpaper
One feminist theory is that whenever woman hold power in society they are treated
as the other . Women have always been seen as domestic or the care takers of the
family; women stay home with the kids, tend to dinner and the cleaning. That
being said whenever a woman, like Jane, tries to step out of the nurturing role, men
tend to feel intimidated and was unsure how to react to such a thing happening
(like when John and Jane s brother diagnose her to be mentally ill all because she
desires to write). In the time of the story, Jane is seen as mentally ill because she
desires to read and write while her husband who happens to be a physician of high
standing says she tends to have slightly hysterical tendency(Page 1, paragraph 5). In
The Yellow Wallpaper
Gilman uses the yellow wallpaper to symbolize Jane, who
represents the way women use to be treated as the lesser in society.
In the time this story was written, back in 1899, men and women were not viewed
as equals and this short story is a prime example. As the readers go through the
story they can literally see the shifts in her sanity by her illness and the almost
revolting yellow wallpaper, which represents all the women who in that time
period were overlooked by the men in society. In 1899, women did not have much
power. Women were to assume the role of becoming a wife and tending to the
husband s needs, they are not their own individual. She even says he is very careful
and loving and hardly lets me stir

Yuki Tanaka s Japan s Comfort Women
This paper is a review of the book Japan s Comfort Women Sexual slavery and
prostitution during WWII and the US occupation by Yuki Tanaka. This book was
published in 2002 by Routledge. The book deals with the thousands of Japanese,
Korean, Chinese and other Asian and European women who were victims of
organized sexual violence and prostitution by means of comfort stations setup by the
Japanese military during World War II.
As we first get into the book, we find out that the origins of comfort stations i.e.
military brothels are unknown, but official documents strongly suggest that the
Japanese Imperial Forces created comfort stations roughly around 1931 1932 for
Japanese sailors. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some other women however faced different routes.
Chinese and Filipina women were lured into these sexual schemes by not just deceit,
but by force as well. Recruiters used violence and often kidnapping to get these
women. While the Japanese forces had occupied China, they used Korean women for
their authorized comfort stations for fear of anti Japanese resentment among Chinese
civilians. However, this did not stop some Japanese from setting up comfort stations
using Chinese women. These unofficial comfort stations were not given approval
from higher Japanese authority. The Japanese army adopted the tactics called
Shodo Sakusen which meant scorched earth strategy (p.46). This meant that the
army could destroy any village if ordered too which of course included the rape of
women. This is an account of a 15 year old Chinese girl who along with other girls,
was abducted and separated from her family. Day after day they were raped by
Japanese soldiers in the cave. Each day she was raped by at least two or three soldiers
sometimes by 10 soldiers. The cave was guarded by Chinese collaborators, making
it impossible to escape. She was often taken to an officer s room in the fortress and
raped there, too (p.46). The Japanese also occupied the regions of the Philippines
and Filipina women were kidnapped and abducted as well by force and were used as
comfort women. The Filipino s had a lot of anti Japanese guerilla movements

Paper #2
It is often said that history is written by the victor. Growing up, we have been
indoctrinated that the United States and capitalism are the moral choices in the
perceptions of government. These views of our history are rooted in our countries
past, and since we learn from our pasts, we carry forward a view of the United States
moral dominance in world affairs. Yet during the cold war, the United States was not
the only country portrayed as the moral center of the world. After the end of World
War Two, the Soviet Unionand the United States fought a war of words, the Cold
War, for supremacy and world influence. The tones of these arguments were that
both sides and their opposing forms of government were the pinnacle of moral
standing. This war of words extended to the battlefield as third world nations,
seeking freedom from their colonial oppressors who were torn apart by allegiance to
either the Communist system of the Soviet Union or the Capitalist system of the
United States. It was the Soviet Union and the United States that waged the war of
idealism, chastising each other s moral vacancy, while members of smaller countries,
such as Vietnam, turned to both the powers as a means of improving their own lives
while caring little for the verbiage of the battling superpowers.
The two ideological heads of the Cold War were the United States and the Soviet
Union. The ideas that the two sides

Introduction
The Holland Sweetener Company (HSC) is planning to enter the low calorie, high
intensity sweetener market which is currently dominated by NutraSweet. Below we
first analyze our target industry. Next we look at what kind of response should
HSC expect from NutraSweet upon its entry into this market. We will also analyze
few likely scenarios that could play out and we will try to estimate the likelihood of
each scenario. Based on our analysis, we will give a recommendation for HSC to
plan their entry into this market.
Industry Analysis
The low calorie, high intensity sweetener market has been dominated by one major
player, NutraSweet, with annual sales of $711M and about 80% market share (the

However, soft drinks manufacturers were its major customer (80% of the total
aspartame consumption) with table top product as the secondary (15% of total
aspartame consumption) . Notably, the soft drinks industry was dominated by two
major players Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola, accounting for 60% of the soft drinks
market. Usually, this would have led to a strong buyer power, however, NutraSweet
had the advantage due to its monopolistic position as the sole provider of aspartame.
This power could easily dissolve once the patents expire and alternative producers
enter this industry.
Figure 1 Aspartame Sales Distribution in 1986
Rivalry
In 1986, rivals presented a limited risk to the company due to NutraSweet s
monopolistic position in the production of aspartame. However, the development and
subsequent introduction of alternative low cal high intensity sweeteners, combined
with the trend of blending, presented a major risk for NutraSweet s product. Also, as
the patents for aspartame expire in the different regions NutraSweet will face
competition from alternative producers of aspartame as well.
NutraSweet s Anticipated Response to HSC s entry
NutraSweet s monopolistic position allowed it to earn generous margins by charging
a price premium. Consequently, Vermijs should anticipate an aggressive

Commenting on the realism of Hawthorne s characters, literary critic A. N. Kaul
says: A deeply American writer, Hawthorne is also a peculiarly modern writer. It is
true that often he deliberately, even perversely, shrouds his narratives in a sort of
nameless, dateless archaism, and delights too in calling up figures that seem to
belong anywhere but in the real world (1). Hawthorne, after exposing the surprised
people to the sable veil, develops the protagonist through a description of some of his
less exotic, less curious characteristics:
Mr. Hooper had the reputation of a good preacher, but not an energetic one: he strove
to win his people heavenward by mild, persuasive influences, rather than to drive
them thither by the thunders of the Word. The sermon which he now
delivered was marked by the same characteristics of style and manner as the general
series of his pulpit oratory.
However, on this first day of wearing his black veil there is some peculiar difference
in Hooper s sermon:
But there was something, either in the sentiment of the discourse itself, or in the
imagination of the auditors, which made it greatly the most powerful effort that they
had ever heard from their pastor s lips. It was tinged, rather more darkly than usual,
with the gentle gloom of Mr. Hooper s temperament. The subject had reference to
secret sin. . . .
23. Callisto the Satellite of Jupiter Essay
It s easy to see why not much attention is paid to Callisto. For four hundred years,
Callisto appeared only as the fourth dot away when gazing at Jupiter through a
telescope. It also didn t help Callisto gain attention by orbiting Jupiter. Jupiter may
be one of the most intriguing objects that astronomers have yet to study. Jupiter is
the king of the planets. With its complex bands and zones, Great Red Spot, and
sheer size, Jupiter has captured our imaginations and has pushed us to learn and
explore all we can about it. Now, with our Pioneer, Voyager, and especially Galileo
spacecrafts, we have uncovered mysteries of Callisto that give our minds and
imaginations quite a workout.

Either the atmosphere is transient and was formed recently or some process is
currently supplying carbon dioxide to the atmosphere (Carlson, 1999).
As the Galileo spacecraft flew by Callisto, it detected a slight magnetic field. This is
explained only through a model where Callisto has a salt water ocean below its
crust, with the magnetic field being induced by the Jovian field (Thomas et al.,
2002). Callisto s moment of inertia C/MRВІ is calculated to be 0.3549 В± 0.0042.
This figure is too small for Callisto to be completely undifferentiated, but it is too
large to have separated completely into a rock core, water mantle, and ice crust
(Thomas et al., 2002). The interior of Callisto is partially differentiated into six
different layers; an ice layer, a water ocean, a three layer ice rock mantle, and a rock
iron core (Kuskov 2005).
Constantine Thomas has created a model of the interior of Callisto called the
ONIONSKIN model because it calculates moment of inertia of a satellite based on
many thin concentric shells. The ONIONSKIN model uses 10,000 equally spaced
shells from core to surface, and then uses the summation of these figures to determine
the moment of inertia for the whole of Callisto. (Thomas et al., 2002)
The silicate rock core is the point of major uncertainty in the internal structure of
Callisto.
It is related to the equation of state of rock iron
24. A Experiment On Separation And Purification Methods
This experiment introduces separation and purification methods used in research
quite frequently. These methods include hot vacuum filtration and recrystallization to
purify a crude sample of acetanilide containing two impurities. Recrystallization is a
very common method that is used to purify solids. This process dissolves a crude solid
with impurities in a mildly boiling solvent, and cooling down the mixture afterwards
for crystals to reconstruct themselves in solution. This method allows impurities to
separate and remain in solution as precipitate or remain uniform in solution. Solids
are more soluble in hot solvents than in cold ones, allowing maximum dissolution for
proper separation and subsequent crystallization to occur. After purifying the
compound, the melting pointis determined using the Mel Temp technology to
compare to the written melting point to see how pure the sample truly is. The proper
steps of recrystallization include selecting a solvent that fits the characteristic of all
the components, water in this experiment. Then, dissolving a crude sample in the
chosen solvent (at or close to the solvent boiling point), forming solid in the solution
as cooling takes place, using vacuum filtration to isolate the purified solid, ridding
the crystals of all impurities through drying. In this experiment, recrystallization
allows purification of 150 mg of crude acetanilide. Hot vacuum filtration is a process
used. The process requires using a filter flask, Pasteur

In his speech on the riots, Cameron discounted social conditions such as poverty and
unemployment as reasons for the 2011 riots, and focussed instead on criminality and
morality (Andrews, G. 2014). This essay will compare and contrast this conservative
view of the riots with the radical view. A riot is an occasion involving violence
directed at property, persons or authority. The current understanding of the term riot
dates back to the fourteenth century, when it began to suggest violence and disorder
among the population. By the eighteenth century violence and disorder was on the
rise in England, which resulted in Parliament passing the Riot Act of 1715.

The discussion on BBC News night highlighted the differences in the conservative
and radical views on the riots. Ian Kinsella described his concern at how the rioters
would be controlled going forward. He described how he pleaded with the rioters
to stop, however was chased off and told You re insured mate, you ll be ok! .
Opposite Ian Kinsella was Cody Lachey, a proud mancunion who admitted to
dressing inconspicuously to partake in the looting. Cody Lachey had a change of
heart and although he fully supported the looters, he decided against looting.
Kirsty the BBC news reporter pointed out that Cody Lachey had served in the
military overseas in Afghanistan and Bosnia, he also worked as a security guard
for large retailers, she questioned why he doesn t turn the looters in? Cody s
response Because I understand...We live in an impoverished society where people
do what they have to do to feed their families, and that s the life we re living. (The
Open University, 2017). Cody s response is one shared with a high percentage of
the rioters, they blamed the crushing effect of poverty, parents who have to work
two or three jobs to make ends meet, parents who have no time for their children,
no childcare, increase intuition fees, closure of youth services and scrapping of
education maintenance and lack of respect from the police. It is believed 59% of
those arrested for rioting were unemployed and conceded their involvement in
looting was simply down to opportunism, saying that a perceived suspension of
normal rules presented them with the opportunity to acquire goods and luxury items
they could not ordinarily afford. (Rusbridger, A. 2017). Martin Luther King once
defined rioting as the language of the unheard. This was a radical s view expressed
by a youth worker shortly after the 2011

While working freelance, Mozart wrote numerous operas and he was even asked to
write a requiem, which is a piece of music used to honor someone who had died.
Mozart was a virtuoso on the piano. A virtuoso refers to someone who is highly
skilled on his or her instrument. Mozart played keyboard and violin while his
sister only played the keyboard. At the early age of 3, Mozart was showing signs
of being musically gifted and began composing shortly after. Both he and his sister
received intense musical training which, in turn, allowed Mozart the opportunity
to grow as a musician. It became certain that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a
child prodigy. This meant that he had a skill that was not learned. He had a natural
gift for music. Their father, Leopold began teaching his children music at a young
age. Because of this, both children were destined to get far in their musical careers.
Over his short life, Mozart wrote several operas. His most famous operas include;
The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute and La Clemenza di Tito. Operas and

example, The Marriage of Figaro is a comedy about a couple trying to get married
but, a series of obstacles interferes with it. Because Mozart showed a talent for music
at the young age of six, his father took him and his sister to play in from of a court

31. Double Strand Breaks (DSB)
Among the many types of DNA damage, one of the most severe is DNA double
strand breaks (DSB). DNA DSBs occur when two complementary strands break
simultaneously generating two strands which are not being held together by base
pairing and chromatin structure. Few known causes for DSB are ionizing radiation,
chemical mutagens, reactive oxygen species and drugs which are used for
chemotherapy (Goodsell, 2005). This breakage can cause chromosomal
rearrangement such as translocation and inversion, consequentially resulting in
detrimental phenotypic affects. How are these breaks repaired? DSBs can be
repaired through distinct mechanistically set pathways, as shown in figure 1, such as
Homologous recombination repairs (HRR), Non end joining homologous repair
(NHEJ) and more recently discovered Microhomology mediated end joining
(MMEJ). HRR uses a homologous template to accurately repair the broken strand,
whereas NHEJ relies on Ku proteins (Fnu et al., 2011) and DNAligase to repair DNA
double strands, often times causing small insertions or deletions at the joining site.
MMEJ, a more recent finding, uses a 5 25 bp micorohomologous sequence to align
the broken ends simultaneously always causing deletions in the previously broken
strand (McVey and Lee, 2008).
Genomic instability is a trademark of increased risk of cancers with age. This
instability arises from several problems, with one of the main ones being double
strand breakage (DSB). HRR, one of the DSB repair, is a tightly
32. The German Army During the Interwar Period Essay
Possibly one of the most asked questions in military history is how was the German
Army able to decisively defeat a numerically equivalent Allied Army in France
during May and June 1940? One of the primary reasons for Germany s success was
their innovation in armored warfare, particularly at the tactical and operational levels
during the interwar period. The study of the German Army during a period of
prolonged peace and constrained resources reveals that one of the most important
qualities that a militaryshould possess to innovate effectively is the ability to learn as
an organization. A learning organization creates knowledge internally, externally
acquires knowledge, and diffuses knowledge throughout the organization .... Show

Internal creation of knowledge and innovation also requires organizations to
critically examine their operations, and replace practices that do not work. General
Von Seeckt produced a generation of officers that were open to the idea of learning
from their failures. Throughout the interwar period, German officers routinely
conducted after action reviews as a tool for open discussion. The ability to identify
failures served the German Army well after their first major combat operations since
WWI in Poland. The senior leadership recognized that although their doctrine and
tactics were sound, the campaign was not perfect. Their primary area of concern was
that the maneuvering of unwieldy armored formations overwhelmed inexperienced
leadership, thus preventing them from taking the initiative needed to leverage
tactical advantages. During the seven months prior to the invasion of France, the
senior leadership focused on developing leadership especially at battalion level and
below and reorganizing armored formations to maximize their mobility and lethality
. Learning organizations not only look internally, but they also look at external
organizations to gain knowledge as a base for innovation . The German Army
unable to possess tanks under the Versailles Treaty developed armored tactics
effectively by extensively studying British armored development and exercises
during the 1920s drawing out their own lessons learned. The Germans already with a

emotional response to possibility of being in danger or being anxious. Thus, the fear
of being unprotected from the weather, wild animals or insects, and people we are
unfamiliar with has led societies to be built. In the Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls tells
a different storyof her untraditional upbringing. Jeannette Walls uses events in her
past that exemplify this fear to pivot the narrative and keep the reader s attention.
From the initial start of story Jeanette choses to recant a memory that displays one of
her deepest fears of her early adult life. Jeannette s motherdecided to be unemployed
and live homeless, while Jeannette attends Barnard College and lives a more
luxurious lifestyle. From the very first sentence, I was sitting in a taxi, wondering
if I had overdressed for the evening, when I looked out the window and saw Mom
rooting through a Dumpster... It had been months since I laid my eyes on Mom,
and when she looked, I was overcome with panic that she d see me and call out my
name, and that someone on the way to the same party would spot us together and
Mom would introduce herself and my secret would be out (Walls 3). The
34. Religious Influences On My Identity
My Identity
Identity is who one is considering varying perspectives and experiences. Identity is
sometimes affected in various angles. It may include aspects such a religion, family,
and age.
For me, religion is one of the most significant aspects of my identity. My first
encounter with religion was months after being born when I was baptized. Since
little my family has instilled the importance of religion. For example, from the age
of 5, or so, I went to church every Sunday with my paternal grandparents. In the
beginning,I did not know what it was since we were so little. As we grew more
mature I started to understand how important Catholicism was for my family and
as well for other people. Every day when we eat as a family we always thank God for
everything he has given us and we ask him to help other people. Anytime we are in
rough circumstances we always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we are born, we are not born with values and expectations, but we learn them
from our parents who raise us and teach us. We do not only learn through these
adults teaching us, but we learn by watching the examples they give us. As we
grow up to a more mature age that we can understand what values are we can use
them as our own . For example, my parents have always taught us to be respectful
and educated. Every time we see someone we know or even when we meet someone
new,we ought to treat them with respect. My sister and I have even gone to Etiquette
and Protocol workshops to work on how to be more educated. Another example of
how my family has influenced my identity is the advice they give me for everyday
life. My mom always tells me to live in the present and forget about the future
because I sometimes worry too much of what will happen instead of what is
happening. She also tells me not to let anyone trample you down because you are
more capable than them. This is some of the advice I will give to my kids when I m

that a natural process at a rate that is equal to or faster than the rate at which that
resource is being consumed by renewable energyis from an energyresource.
Renewable energy is a subset of sustainable energy.
1.61 Main types of renewable energy sources:
Hydro Power:
India is endowed with a large potential of hydro power, of which only 17% has been

has been felt that there is a long gestation period in hydro projects due to delays in
forest and environment clearance, rehabilitation of the project effected people
besides inter state disputes and construction holdups due to several reasons. Under
RSE only small hydro projects are considered since they do not require large pond
age and have the capacity to provide power to remote and hilly terrain where
extension of the grid system is either un economic or not possible.
Solar Power: The climatic condition in India provides abundant potential of solar
power due to large scale radiation available during a wider part of the year due to
tropical condition in the country. The solar power can be developed for long term
use through the application of solar photo voltaic (SPV) Technology which

magnetic stirrer for 15 minutes. 50 g of calcined clays (CC) was weighed and added
to each of the three Erlenmeyer conical flasks labeled GP 1, GP 2 and GP 3
respectively. The mixtures were then transferred to 250 mL plastic bottles and
shaken in a ball mill for 5 hours (LГіpez et al., 2014). The fluid matrix was then
poured into ceramic crucibles and cured in an oven at a temperature of 80 В°C for
12 hours. The temperature conditions was then adjusted to 200 В°C for another 12
hours to facilitate complete polycondensation (LГіpez et al., 2014). The ultimate
geopolymer materials obtained were washed with distilled water severally to a pH
of 7.0 В± 0.5. Filtration was then done using aspirator pump model 7049 05. The

41. Great Smog Of London And The Scientific Implications In...
The Great Smog of London and the Scientific Implications in Today s World
Turn of the century London, the emergence of the middle class has forced the
cultural bias to shift in favor of more homes, more people, and a lot of energy
consumption. Science s solution to the energy crisis is a seemingly perfect one:
distribute and utilize a more available fuel. Coal burned slower than wood and
therefore kept people and homes warm more resourcefully. For a while it seemed
like a miracle solution. The industrialization of the previous age had been using coal
as well, and when the air became polluted with the factory and energy refuse, the
smog was swept away in a matter of hours (Kilen, C.) That went on until early
winter of 1952. That fall had been an unusually cold one, and the coal had been
burning day and night. The factories had been chugging on, and the black smoke
kept rolling. The process by which factories burn coal is as follows: the coal is
blown into the furnace where it burns while still airborne. The heat is used to warm
water, which then produces steam, which spines a turbine. The factories that burn
coal now use methods to slightly lessen the pollution, such as wet limestone to
absorb the sulfur (How Coal Works, Union of Concerned Scientists, p.4). This
particular winter, though, the pollutants would not be swept away as they had been
in the past. This is due to the fact that on this particularly cold December, an
inversion occurred over the city of London. An
42. Miles Davis Influence
Question 11
Miles Davis was one of the greatest and most important figures in jazz history.
Miles Dewey Davis III was a musician, composer, arranger, producer and
bandleader all in one. Davis was at the forefront of almost every major development
in jazz after World War 2. He was one of the most influential and innovative
musicians of the twentieth century along with Charlie Parker and Louis Armstrong.
His versatility landed him at the forefront of bebop, cool jazz, modal, hard bop and
fusion (Kirker, 2005:1). His sound went on to influence many other newer forms of
music today such as pop, soul, R amp;B, funk and rap. As one of the last trumpet
players, Davis employed a lyrical, melodic style that was known for its minimalism

bebop was a shift from cool jazz and announced the arrival of hard bop (Sales,

1950s and 1960s, often regarded as a reaction to the restraint and intellectualism of
cool jazz (Kingman, 1990:389).
With the installation of the Miles Davis Quintet, Davis picked up where his late
forties sessions left off. Eschewing the rhythmic and harmonic complexity of the
prevalent bebop, Davis was given space to play long, legato and essentially
melodic lines, where he would begin to explore modal music, his lifelong
obsession. Modal jazz is a new venture for jazz both harmonically and structurally,
it no longer used the chord progressions of standard tunes as the basis for
improvisation replaced by a succession of scales on which the performer
improvised instead (Kingman, 1990:390). Davis had definitely gone a long way in
his trumpet playing since collaborating with Parker. No longer dependant on bebop
phrasing, he chose a minimalist approach instead. Ornate phrasing gave way to a
smattering of tones. He was also utilizing a Harmon mute, sometimes adding reverb,
which had a whisper effect and personalised his sound. Elements of texture and
silence between notes were becoming more dominant (Kirker, 2005:2). By 1958, he
had freed himself by using modal scales and slower moving harmonies. Milestones
portrayed this example as
43. Kilgore Trout s Argument
Kilgore Trout, a character in Kurt Vonnegut s Breakfast of Champion, is an author
who writes numerous fictional short stories through the course of the novel. The
majority of these short stories run along the topic of the Creator of the Universe . As
he attempts to analyze and picture such creator, he comes closer to understanding his
own creator, that being Kurt Vonnegut. As Trout discovers more and more about such
creator, Vonnegut pushes his idea about how a Creator of a Universe functions that
being creating an environment, and leaving the living creations be. In his novel
Breakfast of Champions, author Kurt Vonnegut argues that the Creator of the
Universe (whoever it may be) has no impact on one s will, and only creates an

In one of Kilgore Trout s numerous fictitious stories, he creates a scenario between
an anonymous person and The Man , a messenger for the Creator of the Universe.
In his story, He (the anonymous person) would ask, for instance, Why did you yell,
Cheese ? And the Man would tell him mockingly, Because I felt like it, you stupid
machine . And written on The Man s tombstone Not even the Creator of the
Universe knew what the man was going to say next (Vonnegut 180). In the story,
the man was able to say whatever he wanted to say, without any context necessary.
Although the exclamation made no sense in the context of the story, the creator
had no say in having it make sense as it was a part of the man s free will. Whatever
one says has no need to ever make any sense, because the choice is in his or her own
hands. The Creator of the Universe also has no need to intervene into such matters, as
he or she has already created the environment that initiated that choice. The Creator
makes no impact on the choices and decisions of the people in the world he

Harmful Effects Of Smoking
Smoking isn t good for one s body. Especially if you ve been smoking a pack a day,

your body?
The effects of smoking varies from person to person as it will depend on the person
s vulnerability to the chemical in cigarette or tobacco smoke. It will also depend on
the number of cigarette sticks a person smokes per day, the age when the person first
started to smoke, and the number of years the person has been smoking.

Smoking is one of the biggest single causes of preventable disease and premature
death in a large number of mainly developed countries around the world. In the UK
around 120,000 people die each year from smoking related diseases. 50% of long
term smokers die prematurely from smoking, a large number of them when they
reach middle age.
Globally around 2.5 million people die each year from smoking and it has been
estimated that some time during the 2020 s the number of deaths caused by smoking
will hit the 10 million mark.
The majority of people who die from smoking will have suffered from one of three
main diseases: lung cancer, coronary heart disease or chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease (COPD).
Around 90% of all lung cancer deaths are caused from smoking and smoking is also
the biggest risk factor for a number of other types of cancer as well. Overall, smoking
has been linked to a third of all deaths from cancer. In the US, 1 in every 4 people die
of cancer and over half a million people die each year from this disease. To give you
a clearer idea, more than 1,500 people a day die from cancer.
People who smoke a lot of cigarettes a day are particularly at risk of developing
cancer and if those people have been smoking for a long time, the risk is even higher.
For example, a person who has been smoking one packet of cigarettes a day for 30
years is more at risk than a person who has been smoking

46. Success Of Daoism And Confucianism
Introduction
Confucianism and Daoism are two prominent philosophies of the Chinese
civilization. In this paper, I will assess the relative success and failure of these two
schools of thought from an historical perspective.
Before going into the argument proper, it is essential to define the meaning of
success as it demarcates the boundaries for later analysis. As Confucianism and
Daoism are considered philosophies and/or religions, I would regard the benchmark
of success to be the extent of influence it wields on Chinese society throughout its
dynastic history.

As Michael Loewe points out, Han thinkers developed a more comprehensive system
of philosophy which embraced cosmological ideas along with ethics of Confucius,
and provided a place for the exercise of imperial sovereignty. This is sometimes
known as Han Confucianism . This practical Han Confucian doctrine is depicted in
the three ties of superiority between the emperor and the minister, the father and the
son, and the husband and the wife . Such a system became the code of proper
conduct for individuals and the social order. This characteristic Han Confucianism
political social doctrine had far reaching consequences for Chinese civilization up

Chinese political systems . Socially, it has assisted in preserving obedience to

Richard Shuckburgh was an army doctor stationed at a fort in Albany, New York
during the middle of the 18th century. He was authorized as a doctor for the
Independent Company of New York in June 1737. Shuckburgh is believed to have
been the writer of the song Yankee Doodle. The initial lyrics to musical compositions
that were affiliated with the American Revolution, were authentically composed in
the time of the French and Indian War.

A New York newspaper referred to Shuckburgh as a gentlemen of a very genteel
family, and of infinite jest and humor, after his death on August 1773 in Schenectady.
Two years following, the Revolutionary War had begun and the British military
utilized the musical composition to tease the disobedient Americans, whom soon
after took the song and changed the melody after defeating the redcoats in action.
Yankee Doodle was originally a band melody that no one has sung collectively. The
single stanza kenned to everyone was not a component of the Revolutionary War
song, however it affiliated with a prior era in history. By 1764 Yankee Doodle was
present in England, and by 1767 the melody was adequately well known in America
that it was quoted in an opera. Regardless of investigation, the inchoation of the lyrics
aren t kenned precisely. Possibly the most logical inchoation is an ancient English
children s cadence, Lucy Locket.
In spite of its inception, it is keened that the British utilized the melody to fulminate
Americans afore the Revolutionary War, tracing back to the French and Indian War.
Shuckburgh was so regaled at the discernment of the soldiers that he fixated to make
fun of them by mounting a couple of preposterous words into an English melody.
Yankee attributes to the British soldiers. However, the inception of Doodle is
undiscovered. The lyrics that were utilized pristinely isn t kenned because of the fact

50. Summary Of Scott Westerfeld s The Art Of Resilience
An expectation is, a strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the
future. In the words of an anonymous writer, Be what you expect of yourself, not
what others expect of you. Correspondingly, Scott Westerfeld evokes a similar belief
in his novel, The Uglies. Inside a society of professed uglies, individuals are
segregated by the ideological pretties. Ideally, the authorities of the community
anticipate all citizens to become pretty surgically. However, their expectations are not
valued by all. Moreover, The Uglies, in addition to two ancillary texts, The Art of
Resilience by Hara Marano, and The Third and Final Continent by Jhumpa Lahiri,
includes conflict, setting, and characterization, which are all supportive of a general
theme, that beauty is more than one s vanity. Together with, creating the unifying
idea that propels The Uglies, The Art of Resilience, along with The Third and Final
Continent, where everyone must be his or her own person not the person others
expect.
The evidence in The Uglies and The Art of Resilience is supported throughout the
conflict. Conflict is a literary device, meaning a serious disagreement or argument.
Furthermore, the conflict justifies the importance of staying true to one s own
ambition. The Uglies current conflict, about special circumstances and most uglies, is
man versus man. Uglies affiliated with The Smoke, contained no desire to become
pretty, for they believed they would no longer be themselves.
51. Modern Day Vs Ancient Olympics
The Olympics have been a great tradition since they began long ago in Greece. They
have continued throughout the years and have evolved into what they are today.
There are many similarities and differences between the modern Olympics of today
and the ancient Olympics that were held long ago.
One of the major differences between ancient and modern day Olympics include the
events that are involved. In the first few Olympics there was only one event. It was a
martial arts event with few rules. Soon after racing events and gymnastics became
involved. Now there are a total of 26 events that include many newer sports such as
basketball and swimming adding to the entertainment and variety of the present day
Olympics.
Another major difference between modern and ancient Olympics is the uniforms that
are worn. In the ancient Olympics there were not even uniforms for the competitors

In ancient Greece only high ranking Greek people could attend. There was also no
way of broadcasting the events such as over TV. Now people from any country can
watch and it is almost impossible to avoid at least seeing about it on TV.
Another major difference is that now women are much more important to the
Olympics than they were long ago. the ancient Olympics only men were allowed to
compete or even attend the events. Now women are almost as important as the men.
They compete in most of the same events and offer as much entertainment value for
the public watching the events.
One way that modern and ancient Olympics are similar is that in both modern and
ancient the victors are viewed as heroes. In the early times the victors were viewed
as heroes because they brought honor to Zeus who the events were held for. Now
the victors are viewed as heroes because they bring a lot of pride to the country that
they are competing

medieval time period. Feudalism was said to be based on the exchange of land for
military service ( Feudalism ). This meant the King would reward those who were
loyal to him and fought during battle with land. Life lived under the Medieval Feudal
System, or Feudalism, demanded that everyone owed allegiance to the King and their
immediate superior ( Feudalism ). This lead to the creation of The Feudalism
Pyramid, which changed England s society.
The Feudalism Pyramid segregated and ranked individuals based on the amount of
power one obtained. Obtaining power was usually based on the amount of land one
owned. However, the ranking of the pyramid was typically in ... Show more content

That is, we need to provide the client with a list of priority items that can be
improved and that will have a positive impact on overall satisfaction or customer
loyalty and retention. Typically, the goal is to establish the list of priorities and
relative importance of the explanatory variables, rather than try to predict the mean
value of customer satisfaction if these improvements were implemented. Since most
CSAT studies are tracking studies, the results can be monitored over time to
determine if the desired changes are occurring. We must be sure that changes in the
results are in fact customer response to the client s marketing efforts and not just
phantoms of the analytic tool used to build the model. The latter often happens as a
result of multicollinearity, which is a serious problem in many CSAT studies and
presents two challenges in modeling CSAT data. The first is accurately reflecting
the impact of several independent variables that are highly correlated. The second is
insuring that the results are consistent wave to wave when tracking a market over
time. This paper illustrates the problems that multicollinearity present in modeling
data and then compares the results from the four aforementioned modeling
techniques. Multicollinearity in Customer Satisfaction Research 2005, Ipsos June 20

Chinese Consumers Perception of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Bala Ramasamy Mathew Yeung
ABSTRACT. The findings of this article increase our understanding of corporate
social responsibility from the consumers perspective in a Chinese setting. Based on
primary data collected via a self administered survey in Shanghai and Hong Kong
and results of similar studies conducted in Europe and the United States, we provide
evidence to show that Chinese consumers are more supportive of CSR. We also
show that Carroll s pyramid of responsibilities can be applied in China. We evaluated
the importance placed by Chinese consumers on the four ... Show more content on

(3) Are Chinese consumers able to differentiate between the various responsibilities
of businesses as laid out by Carrol (1979)? In particular, are the underlying factors
/measures of CSR found in Western countries, i.e. economic, legal, ethical and
philanthropic responsibilities apply to Chinese consumers? (4) How and why does
the relative importance among these factors in China differ from the Western
context? The п¬Ѓndings and implications of this study is important not only to
Chinese businesses as they wrestle with CSR as a strategic component of business,
but also to Western businesses as they plough large amounts of investments into
China to take advantage of the burgeoning consumer market. The next section
provides an overview of the literature on CSR and the consumer s perspective in
particular. In the third section, we explain the data and methodology used in this
article. Next section provides the results of our analysis while п¬Ѓfth section
discusses these results. We end the article by providing some implications for
businesses and limitations of the study. Literature review CSR: definitional issues

concluded that ...there is a no strong consensus on a definition for CSR . The
evolution of the definition becomes clear when one considers several definitions
